रामचरितमानस पर अभद्र टिप्पणी करने वाले मंत्री को बर्खास्त कर देना चाहिए
बिहार के शिक्षा मंत्री चंद्रशेखर द्वारा रामचरितमानस पर की गई एक टिप्पणी से विवाद खड़ा हो गया है। हिंदू साधु-संत सरकार से उनकी बर्खास्तगी की मांग कर रहे हैं।
शिक्षा मंत्री चंद्रशेखर ने बयान दिया था कि गोस्वामी तुलसीदास द्वारा रचित प्रसिद्ध महाकाव्य रामचरितमानस ‘समाज में नफरत फैलाता है’ और निचली जातियों के खिलाफ भेदभाव का प्रचार करता है। RJD से ताल्लुक रखने वाले चंद्रशेखर ने माफी मांगने से इनकार कर दिया है।
नालंदा ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी के 15वें दीक्षांत समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए शिक्षा मंत्री चंद्रशेखर ने कहा, ‘आज से करीब 700 साल पहले 15-16वीं सदी में रामचरितमानस लिखा गया। तुलसीदास जी ने लिखा रामचरितमानस। उसके उत्तर कांड में लिखा है, पूजिए विप्र शील गुण हीना, पूजिए न शूद्र ज्ञान प्रवीणा।’ अगर यह विचारधारा चलेगी तो भारत को ताकतवर बनाने का सपना पूरा नहीं हो सकता। इसका मतलब है कि ज्ञान से प्रवीण बाबा भीमराव अंबेडकर भी पूजनीय नहीं हैं। ऐसी शिक्षा समाज में नफरत बोती है। उसी उत्तरकांड में लिखा हुआ है, ‘जे बरनाधम तेलि कुम्हारा, स्वपच किरात कोल कलवारा। बरन में अधम कौन-कौन लोग है? तेली, कुम्हार, कहार, कोल, कलवार, आदिवासी और दलित आदि जातियां। उसी में आगे लिखा है कि अधम जाति में विद्या पाए, भयहुं यथा अहि दूध पिलाए। यानी कि अधम जाति के लोग विद्या पाकर जहरीले हो जाते हैं, जैसे कि दूध पीने के बाद सांप हो जाता है। अगर ये शास्त्र हमारे सामने हों, जो नफरत को इस तरह से बोते हों, तो मैं समझता हूं कि नफरत का वातावरण बनाकर भारत को ताकतवर कोई नहीं बना सकता है।’
बीजेपी नेता अश्विनी चौबे ने बिहार के शिक्षा मंत्री को ‘अज्ञानी’ करार दिया। उन्होंने कहा, ‘रामचरितमानस में ऐसी चीजें कहीं नहीं लिखी हैं। रामचरितमानस कहता है कि हिंदुत्व जीवन जीने की पद्धति है।’
पूर्व केंद्रीय कानून मंत्री रविशंकर प्रसाद ने कहा, ‘यह कैसे अशिक्षित शिक्षा मंत्री हैं जिन्हें भगवान राम की कहानी नहीं मालूम। वह हिंदू भावनाओं का अपमान कर रहे हैं। या तो वह माफी मांगें या नीतीश कुमार उन्हें बर्खास्त करें। भगवान राम की कहानी सभी को जोड़ती है। ये नेता कुछ जानते नहीं हैं, बस भाषण देते हैं। नीतीश कुमार के मंत्री ने रामचरितमानस का अपमान करके देश का अपमान किया है।’
RJD के प्रवक्ता मृत्युंजय तिवारी ने कहा, ‘चंद्रशेखर को रामचरितमानस की दूसरी चौपाइयां भी पढ़नी चाहिए। भगवान राम ने तो सभी जाति के लोगों को गले लगाया, लोगों की सारी धारणाओं को बदला। हमारी पार्टी सभी धर्मग्रंथों का सम्मान करती है। चंद्रशेखर जो कह रहे हैं, वह उनकी सोच हो सकती है, लेकिन यह हमारी पार्टी की सोच नहीं है।
चिराग पासवान खुद दलित हैं, लेकिन उन्हें भी बिहार के शिक्षा मंत्री की बात बुरी लगी। चिराग पासवान ने कहा, ‘भगवान राम भारत के आदर्श हैं, देश की आत्मा हैं। रामचरितमानस को घर-घर में पूजा जाता है। इस तरह की पवित्र पुस्तक के बारे में इस तरह की हल्की बात करना शोभा नहीं देता। इस सबके पीछे नीतीश कुमार है, क्योंकि वह समाज में बंटवारा करके ही अपनी कुर्सी बचाए हुए हैं।’
बिहार कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष अखिलेश प्रसाद सिंह ने बीच की लाइन ली। उन्होंने शिक्षा मंत्री के बयान को गलत बताया, लेकिन उन्हें पद से हटाने की मांग पर खामोश हो गए। अखिलेश प्रसाद सिंह ने कहा, ‘भगवान राम की, रामायण की, रामचरितमानस की आलोचना कोई बर्दाश्त नहीं करेगा। शिक्षा मंत्री जैसे पद पर बैठे व्यक्ति को इस तरह की बात नहीं कहनी चाहिए। उन्हें अपना बयान वापस लेना चाहिए।
केंद्रीय मंत्री गिरिराज सिंह ने शिक्षा मंत्री को उनके पद से हटाने की मांग की। उन्होंने कहा, ‘नीतीश कुमार ने वोट के चक्कर में हिंदुओं के अपमान की पॉलिसी बना दी है, और इसे अपने मंत्रियों के जरिए लागू करवा रहे हैं। चंद्रशेखर का बयान इसका सबूत है। बिहार की जनता इस अपमान के लिए नीतीश को माफ नहीं करेगी।’
मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार ने कहा कि उन्हें इस बात की जानकारी नहीं है कि उनके मंत्री ने वास्तव में क्या कहा। श्री राम जन्मभूमि मंदिर के मुख्य पुजारी आचार्य सत्येंद्र दास ने कहा, ‘जो बात चंद्रशेखर ने कही है, वैसी बात कोई अज्ञानी ही कह सकता है। ऐसे अज्ञानी को कम से कम शिक्षा मंत्री के पद पर रहने का कोई हक नहीं है। मंत्री या तो माफी मांगें या सरकार उन्हें बर्खास्त करे।’
अपनी राम कथा के जरिए पूरी दुनिया में रामचरितमानस की व्याख्या कर रहे कवि कुमार विश्वास ने कहा, ‘चंद्रशेखर एक अशिक्षित शिक्षा मंत्री हैं। जिसके मानस में जहर भरा हो, वह रामचरितमानस के बारे में ऐसा ही बोलेगा।’ कुमार विश्वास ने कहा कि क्या बिहार के शिक्षा मंत्री किसी दूसरे मजहब के धार्मिक ग्रंथ के बारे में इस तरह की बात कहने की हिम्मत जुटा सकते हैं।
वैसे रामचरितमानस में एक चौपाई है, ‘जाकी रही भावना जैसी, प्रभु मूरत देखी तिन तैसी’, यानी जिसकी जैसी भावना होगी, उसे प्रभु की वैसी छवि दिखेगी। मैं रामचरितमानस का बहुत बड़ा ज्ञाता नहीं हूं, लेकिन इसे एक महान ग्रंथ मानता हूं। मानस के बारे में थोड़ा बहुत तो मैं भी जानता हूं। बिहार के शिक्षा मंत्री चंद्रशेखर यादव ने जिन चौपाईयों का हवाला दिया, वे सारी उत्तरकांड की हैं। दावा यह किया जाता है कि उत्तरकांड, गोस्वामी तुलसीदास रचित रामचरितमानस का हिस्सा नहीं था। इसे शायद बाद में जोड़ा गया।
अगर इसे रामचरितमानस का हिस्सा मान लिया जाए तो भी मैं कहूंगा कि चंद्रशेखर यादव जिस चौपाई का हवाला देकर मानस को नफरत फैलाने वाला ग्रन्थ बता रहे हैं, उसमें कहा गया है कि ‘पूजहिं विप्र सकल गुण हीना। शूद्र न पूजहुं वेद प्रवीणा।’ इसमें बिहार के शिक्षामंत्री ‘विप्र’ को ब्राह्मण और ‘शूद्र’ की व्याख्या पिछडे, दलित और आदिवासियों की तरह कर रहे हैं। लेकिन रामायण में विप्र का मतलब ब्राह्मण नहीं है, बल्कि यहां इसका मतलब सदाचारी और शूद्र का मतलब दुराचारी है। सुंदरकांड में हनुमान जी के लिए ‘विप्र’ शब्द का इस्तेमाल हुआ है और रावण को ‘शूद्र’ कहा गया है।
इस चौपाई का मतलब है जो सदाचारी है वह भले ही गुणहीन हो, कमजोर हो, उसका सम्मान होना चाहिए और जो अनाचारी है वह कितना भी बड़ा विद्वान हो, ताकतवर हो, उसका सम्मान नहीं होना चाहिए। रावण प्रकांड पंडित था, वेदों का ज्ञाता था, शिवभक्त था, लेकिन अनाचारी था। इसलिए उसकी पूजा नहीं होती। हालांकि इस तरह की बातें चंद्रशेखर जैसे लोगों को समझ नहीं आएंगी, न वे समझना चाहेंगे क्योंकि उनका मसकद समाज को बांटना है।
बिहार में पहले ही नीतीश कुमार जातिगत समीकरणों को ध्यान में रखकर जातियों का सर्वे करा रहे हैं। बाकी बचा हुआ काम उनके मंत्री इस तरह के बयान देकर कर रहे हैं। कुमार विश्वास ने सही कहा है कि बिहार के ‘अशिक्षित’ शिक्षा मंत्री तो बर्खास्त कर देना चाहिए।
Sack Bihar minister for his obnoxious remarks about Ramcharitmanas
The remarks made on Ramcharitmanas by Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar have stirred a raging controversy with Hindu sadhus and saints demanding his dismissal from the government.
The minister Chandrashekhar had remarked that the famous epic poem Ramcharitmanas written by Goswami Tulsidas ‘spreads hatred in society’ and propagates discrimination against lower castes. The minister, who belongs to RJD, has refused to apologize.
Let us first read what the minister said while addressing the 15th convocation of Nalanda Open University. Chandrashekhar said, “Nearly 700 years ago, in the 15th-16th century, Ramcharitmanas was written by Tulsidas. In the Uttar Kand, it is written पूजिए विप्र शील गुण हीना…पूजिए न शूद्र ज्ञान प्रवीणा. If such thoughts prevail, our dream of making India great cannot be fulfilled. It means, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, who was a learned man, is not worthy of reverence. Such texts spread hatred in our society. In Ramcharitmanas is written जे बरनाधम तेलि कुम्हारा स्वपच किरात कोल कलवारा….जे बरनाधम….(who are described as ‘adham’ (irreligious)? Backward castes like Teli, kumhar, kahaar, Kol, Kalwar, tribals, Dalits, etc.. It is also written “अधम जाति में विद्या पाए… भयहुं यथा अहि दूध पिलाए.” It means people from backward castes, after getting education become venomous like a snake drinking milk. If such religious texts are there before us, I can only say, India cannot become great by spreading hatred.”
BJP leader Ashwini Choubey described the Bihar education minister as ‘illiterate’. He said, nowhere in Ramcharitmanas has such things been written. The Ramcharitmanas says, Hindutva is a way of life.”
Former Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad said, “it is surprising that Bihar education minister does not know the true story of Lord Rama and is insulting Hindu sentiments. He should either apologize, or Nitish Kumar should sack him. The story of Lord Rama binds all Indians. These leaders only give speeches but do not read properly. By insulting Ramcharitmanas, the minister has insulted India.”
RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said, “Chandrashekhar should have also read other portions of Ramcharitmanas too. Lord Rama embrached people from all castes, and changed the outlook of people. Our party respects all religious texts. Whatever Chandrashekhar said could be his personal outlook, but it is not the stand of our party.”
Late Ramvilas Paswan’s son Chirag Paswan, a Dalit himself, said: “Lord Ram is India’s ideal, he is the sould of this nation. Ramcharitmanas is worshipped in every Hindu home. It does not behove of a minister to speak so lightly about the book. Nitish Kumar could be behind this, because he is holding on to his chair by dividing society.”
Bihar state Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh took a middle line. He was silent about the demand to sack the minister, but said, “No Indian will tolerate insult of Lord Ram, Ramayana or Ramcharitmanas. A man holding the post of education minister should not have made such a remark. He must withdraw his comment.”
Union Minister Giriraj Singh demanded that the minister be sacked. He alleged, “Nitish Kumar, in his quest for vote banks, is following a policy to insult all Hindus, and he is using his ministers to do this. The people of Bihar will never forgive Nitish Kumar for this insult.”
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said he was not aware of what his minister actually said. Acharya Satyendra Das, the main priest at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, said, “Only an illiterate can make such remarks. Such persons should not be made education minister. The minister should either apoligize or he should be sacked.”
Poet Kumar Vishwas, who has been spreading the story of Lord Ram across the world, through his Ram Katha events, said, “Chandrashekhar is an illiterate education minister. A person who has poison in his mind will say such things about Ramcharitmanas. ” He challenged Chandrashekhar to say such things about other religious texts.
In conclusion, I can only quote a line from Ramcharitmanas: जाकी रही भावना जैसी…प्रभु मूरत देखी तिन तैसी. (A person views God according to his outlook). I do not claim to be an authority on Ramcharitmanas, but I can only say, the portions quoted by the Bihar minister were from Uttar Kand chapter. It is claimed that this chapter is not part of Goswami Tulsidas’s original Ramcharitmanas. These were probably added later.
Even if one consider these lines to be part of Ramcharitmanas, I can only say that the interpretations of some words are incorrect. The meaning of the word “Vipra” is not Brahmin. It applies to “a person of good character”, while the word “Shudra” applies to “a person of bad character”. In Sunder Kand, ‘Vipra” is used for Hanuman, and Ravana is described as ‘Shudra’. The verse means, those who are of good character must be respected, and those who are of bad character, despite being a learned person (like Ravan) must not be respected. The demon king Ravana was a great pandit, he studied the four Vedas, and worshipped Lord Shiva, but was a tyrant. That is why Ravan is not worshipped by Hindus. Such interpretations cannot be understood by people like Chandrashekhar. Neither will they ever try to understand. Because their main aim is to divide society.
Already, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has initiated caste-based census in Bihar. His ministers are doing the rest by making such obnoxious remarks. Kumar Vishwas has rightly said, such an ‘illiterate’ education minister must be sacked forthwith.
मुसलमानों के बारे में मोहन भागवत की टिप्पणी को सही संदर्भ में देखा जाना चाहिए
राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के प्रमुख डॉ. मोहन भागवत के बयान पर विवाद हो गया है। उन्होंने कहा-‘मुसलमानों को भारत में डरने की कोई जरूरत नहीं है, लेकिन उन्हें श्रेष्ठता के अपने दावे को छोड़ देना चाहिए।’ आरएसएस के मुखपत्र ‘ऑर्गेनाइजर’ और ‘पांचजन्य’ को हाल में दिए अपने इंटरव्यू में भागवत ने कहा, ‘सरल सत्य ये है-हिंदुस्तान को हिंदुस्तान ही रहना चाहिए।आज भारत में रह रहे मुसलमानों को कोई नुकसान नहीं है। अगर वे अपनी आस्था में बने रहना चाहते हैं तो वे ऐसा कर सकते हैं। उनके पूर्वजों की जिसमें आस्था रही, अगर वे उसमें वापस जाना चाहते हैं तो वे जाएं। यह पूरी तरह से उनके मन पर निर्भर है। हिंदुओं में ऐसा आग्रह है ही नहीं।’
संघ प्रमुख ने कहा, ‘इस्लाम को हिंदुओं से डरने की जरूरत नहीं है। लेकिन, मुसलमानों को श्रेष्ठता वाले अपने भाव को छोड़ना होगा। भागवत ने कहा, ‘मुसलमानों को इस नैरेटिव को छोड़ देना चाहिए कि हम बड़े हैं। हमने यहां शासन किया था और फिर से शासन करेंगे। सिर्फ हमारा रास्ता सही है बाकि सब गलत हैं। हम अलग हैं, इसलिए हम ऐसे ही रहेंगे, हम एक साथ नहीं रह सकते। उन्हें यह भाव छोड़ना पड़ेगा।’
मोहन भागवत का बयान सामने आते ही एआईएमआईएम प्रमुख असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने तुरंत अपनी प्रतिक्रिया दी। ओवैसी ने आरोप लगाया कि आरएसएस मुसलमानों के खिलाफ हिंसा भड़काने की कोशिश कर रहा है। उन्होंने कहा, ‘मुसलमान केवल समानता और समान नागरिकता की बात कर रहे हैं, वर्चस्व या श्रेष्ठता की नहीं। उनके (आरएसएस) लिए विविधता राष्ट्र-विरोधी है। वह (भागवत) सीधे तौर पर लोगों को मुसलमानों के खिलाफ हिंसा करने के लिए उकसा रहे हैं। ओवैसी ने यह भी कहा- ‘बीजेपी और आरएसएस के नेता महंगाई, बेरोजगारी, भारत-चीन सीमा मुद्दे या रुपये की गिरती कीमत के बारे में कभी नहीं बोलते।’
एआईएमआईएम प्रमुख ने कहा, ‘मोहन भागवत होते कौन हैं मुसलमानों को रहने का सलीका बताने वाले ? वे इस बात की परमिशन देने वाले होते कौन हैं कि हम कैसे अपनी फेथ (आस्था) को फॉलो करें? नागरिकता पर शर्तें लगाने वाले वे कौन होते हैं? हम यहां पर अपनी फेथ (आस्था) को एडजस्ट करने के लिए नहीं है। नागपुर में बैठे हुए कथित ब्रह्मचारियों के समूह से हमको सीखने की जरूरत नहीं है।’
कांग्रेस नेता दिग्विजय सिंह ने एक अलग अंदाज में अपनी प्रतिक्रिया दी। उन्होंने कहा, ‘राहुल गांधी की भारत जोड़ो यात्रा का असर न केवल बीजेपी और उनके सहयोगियों पर बल्कि राष्ट्रीय स्वयं सेवक संघ पर भी पड़ रहा है। कौन सोच सकता था कि संघ प्रमुख मदरसा या मस्जिद जाएंगे ? आरएसएस हिंदू राष्ट्र की बात करता है जो कि हमारे संविधान के खिलाफ है। वहीं दूसरी ओर बीजेपी के नेता चुनाव के बाद संविधान की शपथ लेते हैं। इस तरह की दोमुंही बातें अच्छी नहीं हैं।’
कांग्रेस महासचिव जयराम रमेश ने कहा, ‘राहुल गांधी की भारत जोड़ो यात्रा को लेकर लोगों की प्रतिक्रिया से बीजेपी हैरान है। हमारा देश अनेकता में एकता के लिए जाना जाता है और यह यात्रा इसी बात को उजागर करती है। अगर विविधता को दबाया गया तो एकता खतरे में आ जाएगी।’
जयराम रमेश ने कहा, ‘संघ प्रमुख मोहन भागवत घबराए हुए हैं, उन्होंने मुस्लिम नेताओं से मुलाकात की जबकि नितिन गडकरी अब बेरोजगारी और गरीबों के बारे में बात कर रहे हैं। स्वामी रामदेव ने राहुल गांधी की यात्रा की सराहना की है और बीजेपी अध्यक्ष जेपी नड्डा ने एक दरगाह का दौरा किया है। यह सब राहुल गांधी की यात्रा का असर है।’
समाजवादी पार्टी के सांसद शफीकुर्रहमान बर्क ने कहा, देश के मुसलमान न मोहन भागवत से और न ही पीएम से डरते हैं, वे केवल अल्लाह से डरते हैं। मुसलमान नंबर 2 नहीं हैं, वे नंबर 1 हैं और रहेंगे। भाजपा और आरएसएस केवल नफरत फैला रहे हैं। इस देश को बचाने और अंग्रजों की गुलामी से आजादी दिलाने में मुसलमानों का अहम योगदान रहा है। हम इस देश के नागरिक हैं और हमारे साथ मानवीयता का व्यवहार होना चाहिए। हमारे पैगंबर ने कहा था कि मुझे हिंदुस्तान से प्रेम की भावना आती है, इसलिए हर मुसलमान हिंदुस्तान से प्यार करता रहेगा। अगर हमारी जमीन पर कोई खतरा आता है तो मुसलमान अपनी जान कुर्बान करने के लिए तैयार रहेंगे।
शिवसेना नेता संजय राउत ने पहले मोहन भागवत की तारीफ की और कहा, ‘वह हमारे मार्गदर्शक हैं। लेकिन बीजेपी नेताओं को उनसे सीखना चाहिए।’ राउत ने कहा, ‘अगर बीजेपी नेता हिंदू-मुस्लिम बयानबाजी करेंगे तो देश टूट जाएगा। आप लोगों में डर का फायदा उठाकर लंबे समय तक राजनीति नहीं कर सकते।’
मुस्लिम उलेमा ने मोहन भागवत के बयान का स्वागत किया। मौलाना याकूब अब्बास ने कहा, ‘भारत के मुसलमान आज खुद को मुगल बादशाहों से नहीं जोड़ते हैं’। मौलाना सूफ़ियान निज़ामी ने कहा, ‘भारत में मुसलमान न तो डर के साए में जी रहे हैं और न ही वर्चस्व की लड़ाई लड़ रहे हैं।’
आपने नोट किया होगा कि अलग-अलग राजनैतिक दलों के नेताओं ने मोहन भागवत के बयान का वो मतलब निकाला जो उनके अनुकूल है। कांग्रेस के नेताओं ने कहा कि ये राहुल गांधी की भारत जोड़ो यात्रा का रिएक्शन है। ओवैसी को इसमें 2024 के चुनाव की तैयारी नजर आई। संजय राउत को लगा कि मोहन भागवत बीजेपी को सीख दे रहे हैं।
लेकिन मोहन भागवत ने मुसलमानों को लेकर इस तरह की बात कोई पहली बार नहीं कही। 19 सितंबर 2018 को मोहन भागवत ने कहा था-‘जिस दिन हम ये कहेंगे कि हमें मुसलमान नहीं चाहिए, उस दिन हिन्दुत्व ही नहीं रहेगा।’ फिर अप्रैल 2019 में मोहन भागवत ने कहा कि हिन्दू-मुसलमान भाई-भाई हैं। बस पूजा पद्धति अलग-अलग है। एक दूसरे के प्रति शंका का कोई मतलब नहीं है। विश्वास जरूरी है।
फिर पांच जुलाई 2021 को मोहन भागवत ने कहा-‘जो लोग मॉब लिंचिंग में शामिल हैं वे हिन्दू नहीं हो सकते।’ फिर 19 सितंबर 2022 को मोहन भागवत दिल्ली की मस्जिद में गए। उसके बाद 5 अक्टूबर 2022 को मोहन भागवत ने काशी में ज्ञानवापी के विवाद पर कहा कि हर जगह जाकर शिवलिंग खोजना और विवाद पैदा करना ठीक नहीं है। ये बंद होना चाहिए। ऐसे अनगिनत उदाहरण हैं जब मोहन भागवत ने इस तरह के बयान दिए। तब ना तो राहुल की यात्रा थी ना 2024 के चुनाव की आहट।
असल में आरएसएस प्रमुख का पूरा बयान देखें तो बात स्पष्ट हो जाएगी। उन्होंने सिर्फ मुसलमानों की बात नहीं की, उन्होंने हिंदुओं से भी कहा कि उन्हें इस तरह की सोच छोड़नी पड़ेगी कि वो दूसरों से बेहतर हैं। मुझे लगता है कि इस बयान को इसी संदर्भ में देखा जाना चाहिए।
हमारे देश में हर नागरिक को बराबर का अधिकार है। इस बात से कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि उसका धर्म क्या है। लेकिन हम रोज देखते हैं कि राजनीति करने वाले, वोटों के लिए काम करने वाले सबको डराते हैं। कोई हिंदुओं को मुसलमानों का डर दिखाता है तो कोई मुसलमानों को हिंदुओं के नाम पर डराता है। इस काम में बहुत सारे धार्मिक नेता भी लगे हैं। इसलिए मोटी बात ये है कि किसी को डरने-डराने की जरुरत नहीं है और ना ही किसी को अपने आप को सुपीरियर बताकर दादागीरी करने की जरूरत है। अगर इस तरह से सोचेंगे तो सबको फायदा होगा।
Bhagwat’s remarks about Muslims, should be seen in the right context
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat has created a controversy by making a statement that ‘Muslims having nothing to fear in India, but they must abandon their claim of supremacy.’
In a recent interview to RSS organs ‘Organiser’ and ‘Panchajanya’, Bhagwat said, “the simple truth is this – Hindusthan should remain Hindusthan. There is no harm to Muslims living today in Bharat. If they wish to stick to their faith, they can. If they want to return to the faith of their ancestors, they may. It is entirely their choice. There is no such stubbornness among Hindus”.
The RSS chief also said, “Islam has nothing to fear from Hindus. But at the same time, Muslims must abandon their boisterous rhetoric of supremacy.”
Bhagwat said, “Muslims must abandon this narrative that we are an exalted race; we once ruled over this land, and shall rule it again. Only our path is right, rest everyone is wrong. We are different, therefore we will continue to be so, we cannot live together – they must abandon this narrative.”
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi was quick to react. Owaisi alleged that the RSS is trying to incite violence against Muslims. He said, “Muslims are only talking about equality and equal citizenship, not supremacy. For them (RSS), diversity is anti-national. He (Bhagwat) is directly inciting people to commit violence against Muslims.” Owaisi also said, BJP and RSS leaders never speak about inflation, unemployment, India-China border issue or about the falling rupee.
The AIMIM chief said, “Who is Mohan Bhagwat to give permission to Muslims to live in India or about following our faith? How dare he put conditions on our citizenship? We are not here to adjust our faith or please a bunch of alleged celibates in Nagpur.”
Congress leader Digvijaya Singh responded in a different tone. He said, “The Bharat Jodo Yatra by Rahul Gandhi is having its impact not only on BJP’s allies, but also on RSS. Who could have imagined there could be a day when an RSS chief would visit a madrasa or a mosque? RSS speaks about Hindu Rashtra, which is against our Constitution. On the other hand, BJP leaders take oath on the Constitution after elections. Such doublespeak is not good.”
Taking up the cue, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “BJP is baffled by the response of the people to Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra. Our country is known for unity in diversity and this Yatra highlights that. If diversity is suppressed, unity will come under threat.”
Jairam Ramesh said, “RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat met Muslim leaders, while Nitin Gadkari is now taking about unemployment and the poor. Swami Ramdev has appreciated Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra, and BJP chief J P Nadda visited a dargah. This is all because of the impact of Rahul’s Yatra.”
Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq said, “Muslims do not fear either Bhagwat or the PM, they only fear Allah. Muslims are not No. 2, they are No.1 and will remain so. BJP and RSS are only spreading hatred. Muslims have contributed a lot to save India and drive out the British rulers. We are also citizens of our country, and we should be treated with humaneness. It was our Prophet who had said, that I smell the sense of love from Hindusthan, and every Muslim will therefore continue to love Hindusthan. If any danger befalls our land, Muslims will be ready to sacrifice their lives.”
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, whose party is now an ally of Congress and NCP, first praised Mohan Bhagwat, saying “he is our ‘marg-darshak’ (guide), but BJP leaders should learn from him. Raut said, if BJP leaders indulge in Hindu-Muslim rhetoric, the nation will break up. You can’t do politics of long by capitalizing on fear among the people.”
Muslim ulema welcomed Bhagwat’s statement. Maulana Yaqub Abbas said, “the Muslims of India today do not correlate themselves with the Mughal emperors”. Maulana Sufiyan Nizami said, “Muslims in India are not living in fear, nor are they fighting for supremacy.”
You may have noticed that different political leaders interpreted Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks differently, the way it suited them. While Congress leaders claimed that it was because of the ‘success’ of Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra, Owaisi was saying that Bhagwat’s remark are meant for the run-up to 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Sanjay Raut found a lesson from BJP from Bhagwat’s remark.
This is not the first time that the RSS chief has spoken about Muslims. On September 19, 2018, Bhagwat had said, ‘the day we start saying that we do not need Muslims in India, Hindutva will cease to exist.’ In April, 2019, Bhagwat said, Hindus and Muslims are like brothers, only their mode of worship is different and there is no need to fear each other.
On July 5, 2021, Bhagwat said, ‘those involved in mob lynching cannot be real Hindus. On September 19, 2022, Bhagwat visited a mosque in Delhi. On October 5, 2022, Bhagwat spoke on Gyanvapi mosque dispute in Kashi, and said, ‘it was not good to find out ‘Shivling’ every where and created controversies. This must stop.’
There are umpteen instances when Bhagwat made remarks about Muslims. At that time, neither Rahul Gandhi was on his Yatra, nor was there any runup to 2024 polls.
If you look at the RSS chief’s statement in totality, one thing will be clear. He did not speak about Muslims only. He also spoke about Hindus, and said, they should shun the mentality of being superior to others. I think Bhagwat’s remarks should be seen in this context.
Every citizen in India has equal rights. It does not matter who follows which religion. But in our daily life, we find politicians creating fear in the minds of people to garner votes. Some create fear in the minds of Hindus, while some do the same with Muslims. Many religious leaders are also involved in this. The moot point is this: there is no need to fear nor is the need to create fear. There is no need to display ‘supremacy’ by resorting to violence and ‘dadagiri’. If people start behaving in a correct manner, it will help us all.
पाकिस्तान में आटे का संकट : नेता और फौज के जनरल ज़िम्मेवार
पाकिस्तान के लोग दाने-दाने को मोहताज हो गए हैं। यहां की आधी-आबादी को दो वक्त की रोटी नहीं मिल रही है। संकट की गंभीरता का अंदाजा इसी से लगाया जा सकता है कि यहां आटे की लूट मची है। सब्सिडी वाली अनाज की दुकानों के बाहर लंबी कतारें देखी जा रही हैं। देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों में आटा लेने के चक्कर में हुई भगदड़, हाथापाई और मारपीट में कम से कम चार लोगों की मौत हो गई है। सिंध के शहीद बेनजीराबाद जिले के सकरंद कस्बे में एक आटा मिल के बाहर भगदड़ मच गई जिससे तीन महिलाओं की मौत हो गई।
सिंध के मीरपुर खास जिले में आटे से भरी बोरी ले जा रहे खाद्य विभाग के ट्रक के पास भगदड़ मच गई। इस भीड़ और भगदड़ में भीड़ ने एक मजदूर को कुचल दिया । पाकिस्तान के पंजाब, खैबर पख्तूनख्वा, सिंध और बलूचिस्तान प्रांतों में लोग आटे के लिए तरस रहे हैं। ज्यादातर लोग काम पर जाने के बजाय आटा खरीदने के लिए घंटों लाइन में लगे रहते हैं।
मंगलवार की रात अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने आपको बलूचिस्तान में एक आटा मिल के बाहर लंबी कतारें और आटे की बोरियां ले जा रहे ट्रकों के पीछे भागते लोगों के दृश्य दिखाए। यहां लोग खुलेआम ट्रकों से आटे की थैलियां लूटी जा रही हैं, जिसके चलते आपस में हाथापाई और मारपीट हो रही है।
हमने आपको सिंध प्रांत के सक्खर का दृश्य दिखाया जहां लोगों ने एक शख्स से आटे की थैली छीन ली। वह शख्स अपने बच्चों की जान बचाने की दलील देता रहा लेकिन किसी ने उसकी दलील नहीं सुनी। लोग फुटपाथ पर बैठकर रो रहे हैं और इस संकट के लिए सरकार को दोष दे रहे हैं। कराची में आटा 140 रुपये से 160 रुपये किलो के भाव से बिक रहा है, जबकि इस्लामाबाद और पेशावर में 10 किलो आटा 1500 रुपये और 20 किलो आटा 2800 रुपये में बिक रहा है।
पंजाब में मिल मालिक 160 रुपए किलो के भाव से आटा बेच रहे हैं। खैबर पख्तूनख्वा में 20 किलो आटे के एक बैग की कीमत 3,100 रुपये तक पहुंच गई है, जबकि बलूचिस्तान में आटे की कीमत 200 रुपये प्रति किलो हो गई है। सरकार रियायती दरों पर आटा बांटने की कोशिश तो कर रही है लेकिन यह समुद्र में एक बूंद की तरह नजर आ रहा है। लोग मायूस हैं और आटे के लिए 200 रुपये किलो भी देने को तैयार हैं।
हताश और परेशान लोगों की भीड़ से ट्रकों और आटा मिलों की सुरक्षा के लिए हथियारों से लैस पुलिसकर्मियों को तैनात किया गया है। पेशावर में एक शख्स आटे की बोरियां ले जा रहे एक ट्रक के आगे सड़क पर लेट गया। वह आटे की मांग कर रहा था। वह पुलिसकर्मियों से कह रहा था कि अगर उसे आटा नहीं दिया गया तो जान दे देगा। वह कह रहा था, ‘हम सबको मार दो, हमें आटा नहीं चाहिए, हमारे शरीर पर ट्रक चढ़ा दो। हम जिंदा नहीं रहना चाहते हैं और आटे के लिए लाइन में नहीं लगेंगे। हम सबको मार डालो।’
एक महिला ने कहा, ‘हमारा परिवार पिछले तीन दिनों से भूखा है। मैं रोटी बनाने के लिए 50 रुपये से 100 रुपये तक आटा खरीद रही थी। मैं अपने बच्चों को कैसे बचाऊं?’ क्वेटा, मुल्तान, झंग, स्यालकोट, मीरपुर खास, हैदराबाद या वजीराबाद में हर जगह एक जैसे हालात हैं। हर तरफ लोगों की लंबी कतारें हैं।
पाकिस्तान में पिछले कुछ हफ्तों में आटे की कीमत दोगुनी और तिगुनी हुई है। 10 किलोग्राम आटे के बैग के लिए लोग 20 से 24 घंटे कतार में खड़े रहते हैं। मिल मालिक आटे की कमी के लिए सरकार को जिम्मेदार ठहरा रहे हैं जबकि प्रांतीय सरकारें संकट के लिए प्रधानमंत्री शहबाज शरीफ की सरकार को जिम्मेदार ठहरा रही हैं। दरअसल, पाकिस्तान में पिछले कई सालों से गेहूं का उत्पादन घट रहा है। गेहूं का आयात हो रहा है, लेकिन सरकार संकट से उबर नहीं पा रही है।
नवाज शरीफ की पाकिस्तान मुस्लिम लीग (एन) और बिलावल भुट्टो जरदारी की पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी इस संकट के लिए पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री इमरान खान को जिम्मेदार ठहरा रही है। ख़ैबर पख़्तूनख़्वा प्रांत के बन्नू शहर में एक डॉक्टर ने आटे की कमी का विरोध करते हुए एक व्यस्त चौराहे पर ख़ुद को पिंजरे में बंद कर लिया। डॉक्टर ने कहा कि हुकूमत किसी की भी हो, अवाम हर सरकार के दौर में लुटती आई है।
पाकिस्तान का विदेशी मुद्रा भंडार तेजी से घट रहा है। उसके पास केवल 6.7 बिलियन डॉलर का विदेशी मुद्रा भंडार है। बाहर से आनेवाले सामानों का भुगतान करने के लिए मुश्किल से एक सप्ताह का विदेशी मुद्रा पाकिस्तान के पास बचा है। भारत के सबसे अमीर बिजनेसमैन गौतम अडानी के पास पाकिस्तान के रिजर्व से 22 गुना ज्यादा संपत्ति है। मुकेश अंबानी की संपत्ति पाकिस्तान के विदेशी मुद्रा भंडार से 15 गुना अधिक है। यहां तक कि पाकिस्तान के सबसे भरोसेमंद सहयोगी चीन ने भी आर्थिक मदद देने से इनकार कर दिया है।
सऊदी अरब और कुछ अन्य देश पहले ही कर्ज दे चुके हैं, लेकिन पाकिस्तान के पास किस्त चुकाने के लिए पैसे नहीं है। बुधवार को वित्त मंत्री इशाक डार ने खुलासा किया कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा आयोजित जिनेवा सम्मेलन में बाढ़ प्रभावित पाकिस्तान के लिए दी गई 10 बिलियन डॉलर की मदद का करीब 90 प्रतिशत हिस्सा परियोजना ऋण के रूप में है, जो अगले तीन वर्षों के लिए रोलओवर किया जाएगा। जिस वक्त डार यह ऐलान कर रहे थे उस वक्त पीएम शाहबाज शरीफ भी उनके पास बैठे थे। डार ने कहा कि 8.7 अरब डॉलर की मदद लोन के रूप में है।
पाकिस्तान के सेना प्रमुख जनरल सैयद आसिम मुनीर ने पिछले दो दिनों में सऊदी अरब के प्रिंस सलमान और यूएई के राष्ट्रपति से मुलाकात कर उनसे मदद मांगी, लेकिन किसी तरह का कोई ऐलान नहीं हुआ। सबसे हैरान करने वाली बात यह है कि पाकिस्तान के किसी नेता के घर में आटे की कमी नहीं है। सबके घर में तंदूरी परांठों के साथ चिकन मटन और बिरयानी की दावतें हो रही हैं और पाकिस्तान की अवाम भूख से मर रही है।
पाकिस्तान के लोगों की परेशानी और उनकी तकलीफ को देखकर दुख होता है। उनकी इस हालत के लिए कोई और नहीं खुद पाकिस्तान की सरकारें, वहां की सियासी पार्टियां और पाकिस्तान की फौज जिम्मेदार है। जबसे पाकिस्तान बना है तब से वहां की सरकार ने इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर बनाने के बजाए हथियार बनाने पर जोर दिया। लोक कल्याण पर खर्च करने के बजाए आतंकवाद और फौज पर पैसा खर्च किया।
मैं कुछ आंकड़े देख रहा था जो हैरान करने वाले थे। पाकिस्तान की सरकार शिक्षा पर जितना खर्च करती है उससे छह गुना ज्यादा पैसा अपनी फौज पर खर्च करती है। पाकिस्तान में कारखाने बिजनेसमैन नहीं लगाते बल्कि फौज वहां फैक्ट्रियां चलाती हैं। फौजी जनरल्स के पास हजारों एकड़ जमीन है। पाकिस्तान का सारा पैसा या तो नेताओं के पास है…या फौजी अफसरों के पास। इस पूरे संकट की जड़ यही है।
Flour crisis in Pakistan: Politicians, Army generals are responsible
Pakistan is facing an acute flour crisis due to severe shortage, resulting in long queues outside subsidized food shops. At least four people have died in scuffles and stampedes in different parts of the country. In Sakrand town of Shaheed Benazirabad district of Sindh, a stampede broke out outside a flour mill, resulting in the death of three women.
In Mirpur Khas district of Sindh, a labourer was crushed by a crowd, after stampede broke out near a food department truck carrying bags of flour. People are clamouring for flour in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan provinces. Most of the people, instead of going to work, are spending hours standing in queues to buy flour.
In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Tuesday night, we showed visuals of long queues outside a flour mill in Balochistan, and people running after trucks carrying flour bags. People are openly looting flour bags from trucks, resulting in fisticuffs and scuffles.
We showed visuals from Sakkhar in Sindh province, where people looted a flour bag from a man, despite his desperate pleas to save the lives of his children. People are sitting on pavements, weeping and blaming the government for this crisis. In Karachi, flour is being sold at Rs 140 to Rs 160 per kg, while in Islamabad and Peshawar a ten kg bag of flour is being sold for Rs 1,500 and 20 kg bag is being sold for Rs 2,800.
Mill owners in Punjab are selling at the rate of Rs 160 per kg. The price of a bag of 20 kg flour has touched Rs 3,100 in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, while in Balochistan, price of ‘atta’ has gone up to Rs 200 per kg. The government is trying to distribute flour at subsidized rates but it appears to be a drop in the ocean. People are desperate and ready to pay even Rs 200 per kg for flour.
Armed policemen have been deployed to guard trucks and flour mills from hordes of desperate people. In Peshawar, a local resident lay on the road in front of a truck carrying flour bags. He was demanding ‘atta’. He was telling policemen he would rather like to die if he is not given flour. He was saying, “Kill us all, we don’t want atta, run over your truck on our body. We don’t want to remain alive and will not stand in queue for atta. Kill all of us.”
Another female resident said, “our family is starving for atta for last three days. I had been buying atta for Rs 50 to Rs 100 to make bread. How can I protect my children?” The scene is the same everywhere, in Quetta, Multan, Jhang, Sialkot, Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad or Wazirabad. There are long queues of people everywhere.
The price of flour has doubled and trebled in the last few weeks. For a 10-kg atta bag, people are standing in queues from 20 to 24 hours. Mill owners are blaming the government for the shortage, while provincial governments are blaming Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government for the crisis. Wheat production has been declining in Pakistan for the last several years. Wheat is being imported, but the government is unable to tide over the crisis.
Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party are blaming former PM Imran Khan for this crisis. In Bannu town of KP province, a doctor put himself inside a cage at the town square as a mark of protest. He was saying that the common man is being exploited, whichever party is in power.
Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserve is depleting fast, and the country has only $ 6.7 billion, hardly one week’s foreign exchange to pay for imports. India’s richest businessman Gautam Adani has assets which are worth 22 times compared to Pakistan’s reserve. Mukesh Ambani’s assets are worth 15 times Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserve. Even China, Pakistan’s trusted ally, has refused to give financial assistance.
Saudi Arabia and some other countries have already given loans, but Pakistan has no funds to repay the instalments. On Wednesday, finance minister Ishaq Dar revealed that almost 90 per cent of $10 billion help pledged by donors for flood-hit Pakistan at the Geneva conference hosted by the UN are in the form of project loans, that will be rolled over for the next three years. With Shehbaz Sharif sitting beside him, Dar said, $8.7 billion pledges are in the form of loans.
Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen Syed Asim Munir met Prince Salman of Saudi Arabia and the UAE President in the past two days, seeking help, but no announcement was forthcoming. The most puzzling part is that there is no shortage of flour in the homes of any Pakistani politician or top bureaucrat. On one hand, their homes are hosting paratha, mutton, chicken and biryani parties, and on the other hand, the poor common Pakistani is starving.
It is really sad to see people crying for food in Pakistan. The governments of Pakistan, the political parties and the Army are all responsible for this sorry state of affairs. Since the time Pakistan was born, the governments spent more money on making weapons instead of building infrastructure. More money was spent on terrorism and for giving weapons to army, rather than on public welfare.
I was looking at some facts about Pakistan, which were truly surprising. Pakistan today is spending six times the money on defence compared to education. In Pakistan, most of the factories are being run, not by businessmen, but by the army. Army generals occupy thousands of acres of land. Most of the money in Pakistan is in the hands of either politicians or army officers. There lies the crux of the matter.
जोशीमठ आपदा : ये आरोप-प्रत्यारोप वाली राजनीति का वक्त नहीं है
उत्तराखंड के जोशीमठ में एनडीआरएफ की एक और एसडीआरएफ की 8 टीमों ने मंगलवार को मोर्चा संभाल लिया। शहर की असुरक्षित घोषित की जा चुकी 678 इमारतों को गिराने की कार्य योजना पर काम शुरू हो गया है।
सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मंगलवार को उस याचिका पर तत्काल सुनवाई करने से इनकार कर दिया जिसमें इस संकट को राष्ट्रीय आपदा घोषित करने और इस पर तत्काल सुनवाई करने का अनुरोध किया गया था। सुप्रीम कोर्ट में अब इस मामले पर 16 जनवरी को सुनवाई होगी। चीफ जस्टिस डी.वाई. चंद्रचूड़ और जस्टिस पी.एस. नरसिम्हा की बेंच ने कहा कि हालात से निपटने के लिए लोकतांत्रिक रूप से चुनी हुई संस्थाएं हैं और वे इस मामले पर गौर करेंगी, इसलिए तत्काल सुनवाई की जरूरत नहीं है। यह याचिका स्वामी अविमुक्तेश्वरानंद सरस्वती ने दाखिल की थी।
सबसे पहले जोशीमठ में दो होटल माउंट व्यू और मलारी को स्थानीय प्रशासन द्वारा ढहा दिया जाएगा। दोनों इमारतें एक-दूसरे पर इस तरह से झुकी हुई हैं कि आसपास के करीब एक दर्जन घरों पर खतरा पैदा हो गया है। एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने बताया कि दोनों इमारतों को जल्द ही मैकेनिकल तरीके से हटाया जाएगा । ये इमारतें काफी धंस चुकी हैं। सेंट्रल बिल्डिंग रिसर्च इंस्टीच्यूट, रूड़की की एक टीम ने दोनों इमारतों का सर्वे किया ताकि इन्हें इस तरह से गिराया जाए कि जानमाल का कोई नुकसान न हो।
जोशीमठ में जहां एक ओर घरों, सड़कों और अन्य इमारतों में दरारें बढ़ती जा रही हैं वहीं अधिकारियों ने असुरक्षित घोषित किए जा चुके घरों पर ‘लाल X निशान’ लगाना शुरू कर दिया है। जिन घरों पर लाल निशान लगा होगा उन्हें ढहा दिया जाएगा। 81 से ज्यादा पीड़ित परिवारों ने अपना घर खाली कर दिया है और राज्य सरकार ने उन्हें अस्थायी शिविर में रखा है।
हर पहलू पर विचार-विमर्श के बाद राज्य सरकार ने आखिरकार यह फैसला किया कि लोगों की जान बचाने का एकमात्र उपाय है कि खतरे वाले इलाकों में रहनेवाले तमाम लोगों के घर खाली कराए जाएं। जोशीमठ के चार वार्डों से लोगों को घर खाली करने के आदेश जारी कर दिए गए हैं। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी राहत उपायों पर लगातार नजर रखे हुए हैं। जोशीमठ नगर के पास 1,191 लोगों के रहने के लिए 213 कमरों के इंतजाम किए गए हैं। वहीं पीपलकोटी में 2,205 लोगों के रहने के लिए 491 कमरों के इंतजाम किए गए हैं। खाद्य पदार्थों के 63 किट के अलावा 53 कंबल भी पीड़ितों को दिए गए हैं।
इस बीच लोगों का गुस्सा भी फूट पड़ा। छावनी बाजार में लोगों ने विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। लोगों का कहना था कि रहने के लिए आवास की उचित व्यवस्था किए बिना लोगों को घरों से नहीं निकाला जाना चाहिए। खतरनाक इमारतों को गिराने का काम पूरा होने के बाद जोशीमठ के करीब 30 हजार लोग बेघर हो जाएंगे। इस शहर के धंसने के सही कारणों का पता लगाने के लिए दिल्ली से आई एक टीम पहले ही इलाके का सर्वे कर चुकी है।
सोमवार को सेंट्रल बिल्डिंग रिसर्च इंस्टीच्यूट (CBRI) की टीम ने शहर का दौरा किया और उन इमारतों की पड़ताल की जिनमें बड़ी दरारें पड़ चुकी हैं। बेघर हो चुकी महिलाएं, पुरुष, नौजवान, बच्चे और बजुर्ग भीगी आंखों से अपने घरों को देख रहे हैं, जो कुछ दिन में उजड़ने वाले हैं। जोशीमठ की सभी दुकानों और व्यवसायिक संपत्तियों का पूरा ब्योरा न होने से प्रशासन के सामने बड़ी समस्या आ रही है। एक बार जब इन संपत्तियों को ध्वस्त कर दिया जाएगा तो फिर मुआवजे का आकलन करने के लिए संपत्तियों के रिकॉर्ड और अन्य दस्तावेजों की जरूरत होगी। वहीं मौजूदा संकट के बीच बर्फबारी और बारिश का खतरा भी मंडरा रहा है।
जोशीमठ को प्रसिद्ध चार धाम तीर्थ का प्रवेश द्वार माना जाता है। स्वाभाविक रूप से, हिंदू संत और मठों के मालिक चिंतित हैं। कांग्रेस नेता और पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री हरीश रावत ने कहा कि जोशीमठ के नाम से एक नया शहर बसाने के अलावा कोई विकल्प नहीं है। उन्होंने पनबिजली परियोजना और ऑल वेदर रोड के चल रहे सभी कामों को तत्काल रोकने की मांग की।
जोशीमठ बड़ा पर्यटन स्थल है और उससे भी ज्यादा धार्मिक आस्था का केन्द्र है। रामायण में जिस द्रोण पर्वत से संजीवनी बूटी लाने का जिक्र है वह द्रोण पर्वत जोशीमठ में ही है। चार धामों की स्थापना करने वाले आदि शंकाराचार्य ने जोशीमठ में ही तपस्या की थी। उन्होंने यहां एक मठ भी स्थापित किया था। जोशीमठ में ही नरसिंह का मंदिर है। सर्दियों में जब बद्रीनाथ धाम बंद हो जाता है तो भगवान बद्री विशाल को यहीं लाया जाता है। इस वक्त बद्री विशाल जोशीमठ में ही निवास कर रहे हैं इसलिए लोग भगवान बद्रीविशाल से प्रार्थना कर रहे हैं।
हालांकि, जो हालात हैं उनमें फिलहाल लोगों को जोशीमठ से सुरक्षित बाहर निकालना ही एकमात्र उपाय है। हालांकि लोग आसानी से अपना घर-बार छोड़ने को तैयार नहीं हैं। वे विरोध कर रहे हैं। उनकी भावनाएं समझी जा सकती हैं क्योंकि जहां पीढ़ियों से रह रहे हों, जो घर जिंदगी की जमा पूंजी लगाकर बनाया हो, उसे छोड़कर सरकारी छत के नीचे रहने को मजबूर होना पड़े तो कोई भी विरोध करेगा। लेकिन जोशीमठ के लोग भी खतरे को देख रहे हैं, समझ रहे हैं, इसलिए वे मान जाएंगे।
जहां तक सियासत का सवाल है तो ये वक्त आरोप-प्रत्यारोप की राजनीति का नहीं हैं। क्योंकि अगर इस वक्त इस तरह की बातें होंगी तो फिर पुरानी बातें भी सामने आएंगी। जोशीमठ में पहली बार दरारें 1970 में दिखी थीं। उसके बाद 1976 में वी. सी. मिश्रा कमेटी की रिपोर्ट भी आई थी। लेकिन उस रिपोर्ट पर ध्यान नहीं दिया गया। इसलिए मैंने कहा कि फिलहाल आरोप-प्रत्यारोप का वक्त नहीं है। इस वक्त सभी राजनीतिक दलों और सिविल सोसायटी को मिलकर जोशीमठ के लोगों की मदद के लिए कोशिश करनी चाहिए।
Avoid engaging in blame game on Joshimath disaster
Eight teams of State Disaster Response Force, one team of National Disaster Response Force, along with police force, have swung into action to chalk out plans to demolish 678 buildings, marked unsafe in the hilly Uttarakhand town of Joshimath on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court on Tueday refused a plea for an urgent hearing to declare this crisis as a ‘national disaster’. The apex court will hear the case on January 16. The bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha observed that there are democratically elected institutions which will look into it and there was no need to seek an urgent hearing in the apex court. The plea was filed by Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati.
As a first step, two hotels in Joshimath, Mount View and Malari Inn, will be razed by the local administration, as the two structures are leaning towards each other, thus posing a threat to nearly one dozen houses in the vicinity. Both the structures will be demolished mechanically soon, as they are subsiding, said a senior official. A team from Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, has carried out a survey of both the hotel structures for the purpose of demolition, to ensure zero collateral damage.
With more houses, roads, buildings and other structures developing wide cracks, officials have begun putting ‘red X signs’ on unsafe buildings, marked for demolition. More than 81 families have evacuated their homes, and the state government has provided temporary shelters.
The state government has finally decided that evacuation is the only way to save lives. Orders have been issued to evacuate people for four wards of Joshimath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keeping a keen watch on the rescue efforts. 213 rooms have been identified to house 1,191 persons, while in Peepalkoti 491 rooms have been identified to house 2,205 persons. 63 foodgrain kits, 53 blankets have been distributed.
There were protests in Chhawni Bazaar where people expressed anger over evacuation without proper housing arrangements. Nearly 30,000 residents of Joshimath are going to be rendered homeless after demolition work is complete. A team of experts from Delhi has already made a survey to find out the exact causes behind the sinking of this town.
The team from Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) visited the town on Monday and checked the wide cracks that have developed in buildings. Children, women, youths and senior citizens have now been rendered homeless, tearfully watching their homes which are going to vanish in a few days. The local administration is grappling with the problem of lack of full details of all shops and commercial properties in the town. Once these properties are demolished, records and details will be needed for the administration to calculate compensation. On top of the current crisis, is the looming threat of fresh snowfall and rain.
Joshimath is considered the gateway to the famous pilgrimage of Char Dhm. Naturally, Hindu saints and owners of monasteries are worried. Congress leader and former chief minister Harish Rawat said, there is no other option but to set up a new town by the name of Joshimath. He demanded immediate stoppage of all work of hydro-power project and all-weather roads.
Joshimath is a renowned tourist spot and a place of pilgrimage. According to Ramayana, the famous ‘sanjeevani booti’ was found on Drona Hill here. Adi Guru Shankaracharya sat on meditation in Joshimath, while setting up four ‘dhams’ across India. He set up a monastery here. There is the famous Narasingha temple in Joshimath. During harsh winter, when Badrinath is closed, Lord Badri Vishal is brought to Joshimath. Naturally, Hindus are praying to Lord Badri Vishal to save them from this disaster.
Yet, there is only one way out. The entire town has to be evacuated, before it sinks deep into the earth. Common people are unwilling to leave their home and hearth. I can understand their feelings and emotions, since their families have been residing in this town since several generations. They spent their entire savings in building their homes. They would not like to live in temporary shelters.
Also, this is not the time for engaging in political allegations and counter-allegations. It is a fact that the first cracks in Joshimath were noticed in 1970. The V. C. Mishra committee gave its report in 1976, but no action was taken. This is not the time for engaging in blame game. All political parties and civil society must join hands to ensure not a single life is lost.
MCD में पहले दिन हंगामे की असली वजह
दिल्ली के नवनिर्वाचित नगर निगम के सदन की पहली बैठक में शुक्रवार को जमकर हंगामा हुआ। पीठासीन अधिकारी सत्या शर्मा ने जैसे ही 10 मनोनीत पार्षदों को, जिन्हें एल्डरमैन भी कहते हैं, शपथ लेने के लिए बुलाया, AAP के पार्षदों ने वेल की तरफ धावा बोल दिया। बीजेपी के इन सभी एल्डरमैन को उपराज्यपाल ने नामित किया था। AAP के पार्षदों ने मेजों पर खड़े होकर नारेबाजी करते हुए शपथ ग्रहण को रोका और बीजेपी के पार्षदों से धक्का-मुक्की शुरू कर दी। हाथापाई में कई पार्षद घायल हो गए और उन्हें अस्पताल ले जाना पड़ा।
नतीजा ये हुआ कि शपथ ग्रहण नहीं हो सका। मेयर, डिप्टी मेयर और स्थायी समितियों के सदस्यों के चुनाव अधर में रह गए। AAP और बीजेपी के पार्षद मंच पर पहुंचे और उनमें से कुछ ने पीठासीन अधिकारी से कागजात छीनने की कोशिश की। AAP पार्षद प्रवीण कुमार और बीजेपी के कुछ पार्षदों के बीच हाथापाई हो गई। सुरक्षाकर्मी चेंबर में घुसे और फिर हाथापाई में पोडियम क्षतिग्रस्त हो गया। इसके बाद पीठासीन अधिकारी ने बैठक को एक घंटे के लिए स्थगित कर दिया।
सदन जब दोबारा शुरू हुआ तो दोनों पक्षों के पार्षदों ने हंगामा शुरू कर दिया, पीठासीन अधिकारी की मेज पर चढ़ गए और माइक तोड़ दिए। AAP के एक पार्षद ने किसी को मारने के लिए कुर्सी भी उठाई, लेकिन उनके साथी ने उन्हें रोक लिया। पीठासीन अधिकारी ने सदन को फिर से स्थगित किया, 15 मिनट बाद वापस आईं, सदस्यों को कार्रवाई की चेतावनी दी, लेकिन जब हाथापाई नहीं रुकी तो उन्होंने सदन को दिन भर के लिए स्थगित कर दिया।
बीजेपी की सांसद मीनाक्षी लेखी पार्टी के 7 पार्षदों के साथ राम मनोहर लोहिया अस्पताल पहुंचीं। ये पार्षद हंगामे में घायल हो गए थे। AAP के 13 घायल पार्षद इलाज के लिए लोक नायक जयप्रकाश अस्पताल गए। एक पार्षद को स्ट्रेचर पर ले जाना पड़ा।
बैठक शुरू होने पर सदन को फूलों और मालाओं से सजाया गया था, लेकिन दिन खत्म होते-होते हाथापाई और हंगामे की वजह से यह जंग के मैदान में तब्दील हो गया था। चारों तरफ टूटी-फूटी कुर्सियां, मेज और माइक पड़े दिख रहे थे। पीठासीन अधिकारी को मार्शलों की मदद से बाहर निकालना पड़ा।
सदन के अंदर आम आदमी पार्टी के विधायक और बीजेपी के सांसद भी वहां मौजूद थे क्योंकि नियम के मुताबिक महापौर के चुनाव में दिल्ली के 13 विधायक और सभी 7 सांसद वोट डाल सकते हैं। AAP अपने 13 विधायकों के साथ पूरी तरह तैयार होकर आई थी, जो बाद में हंगामे में शामिल हो गए।
हंगामे के पीछे मुख्य कारण उपराज्यपाल द्वारा 10 मनोनीत सदस्यों की नियुक्ति थी। आम आदमी पार्टी के नेताओं को डर था कि बीजेपी मेयर और डिप्टी मेयर पदों पर जीत हासिल करने की कोशिश कर सकती है। AAP विधायक आतिशी ने आरोप लगाया कि बीजेपी अपने उम्मीदवार को मेयर बनाने के लिए ‘धोखाधड़ी’ का सहारा ले रही हैं।
बीजेपी की सांसद मीनाक्षी लेखी ने कहा कि उपराज्यपाल के पास पार्षदों को नामित करने की शक्तियां होती हैं और ‘धोखाधड़ी’ का कोई सवाल ही नहीं था। AAP विधायक सौरभ भारद्वाज ने आरोप लगाया कि पीठासीन अधिकारी का काम नए सदस्यों की शपथ और मेयर का चुनाव कराना ही था, लेकिन डिप्टी मेयर और स्थायी समितियों के चुनाव को भी दिन की कार्यसूची में डाला गया था।
नियम के मुताबिक, मनोनीत सदस्य केवल स्थायी समितियों के चुनाव में मतदान कर सकते हैं। वे मेयर और डिप्टी मेयर के चुनाव में वोट नहीं दे सकते।
दिल्ली एमसीडी में कुल 250 सीटें है। मेयर के चुनाव में दिल्ली के 7 सांसद, राज्यसभा के 3 सांसद और 14 विधायक भी वोट डालते हैं। इस लिहाज से मेयर की कुल वोट की संख्या 274 है। कांग्रेस ने पहले ही ऐलान कर दिया है कि वह वोटिंग का बहिष्कार करेगी। MCD चुनाव में कांग्रेस के 9 पार्षद चुनाव जीतकर आए हैं, अगर इन्हें हटा दें तो MCD में कुल वोट की संख्या 265 रह जाएगी और बहुमत का आंकड़ा 133 हो जाएगा।
अब BJP के कुल वोट की बात करें तो पार्टी के 104 पार्षद चुनाव जीते हैं। इसके अलावा बीजेपी के एक विधायक और 7 लोकसभा सांसदों को वोटिंग का अधिकार है। इन सभी को मिला दें तो BJP के कुल वोटों की संख्या 112 हो जाती है।
आम आदमी पार्टी के 134 पार्षद हैं। इनके अलावा 3 राज्यसभा सांसद और 13 विधायक वोट डाल सकते हैं। इस लिहाज से केजरीवाल की पार्टी के पास 150 वोट हैं, जो कि बहुमत से 17 ज्यादा हैं। अगर बीजेपी के लिए किसी तरह 10 नॉमीनेटिड काउंसलर भी वोट डाल देते हैं, तो भी पार्टी के पास कुल 122 वोट ही होंगे। ऐसे में बीजेपी मेयर का चुनाव नहीं जीत सकती।
जब दिल्ली की जनता ने MCD में केजरीवाल की पार्टी के पास स्पष्ट बहुमत दिया है, मेयर और डिप्टी मेयर की पोस्ट पर आम आदमी पार्टी की जीत करीब-करीब तय है तो फिर सवाल ये उठते हैं कि: हंगामा क्यों हो रहा है? जंग किस बात की है? AAP के नेताओं को डर किसका है?
इसकी असली वजह है अविश्वास। बीजेपी तभी जीत सकती है जब केजरीवाल की पार्टी के काउंसलर बीजेपी के उम्मीदवार के पक्ष में क्रॉस वोटिंग कर दें। केजरीवाल को अपने पार्षदों पर यकीन नहीं है। इसीलिए केजरीवाल चाहते थे कि पीठासीन अधिकारी उनकी पार्टी का हो, लेकिन LG ने यह मंशा पूरी नहीं होने दी। इसलिए आम आदमी पार्टी के नेता नाराज हो गए और उनके पार्षद ने टेबल पर चढ़कर पेपर छीन लिया ताकि सदन की कार्यवाही रुक जाए।
दूसरी वजह ये है कि नॉमिनेटिड सदस्य मेयर और डिप्टी मेयर के चुनाव में वोटिंग नहीं कर सकते, लेकिन उन्हें स्टैंडिंग कमेटी के चुनाव में वोट डालने का हक होता है। MCD में स्टैंडिंग कमेटी के पास फाइनेंशियल पावर ज्यादा होती है, इसलिए झगड़ा स्टैंडिंग कमेटी के चेयरमैन को लेकर है। इस कुर्सी पर बीजेपी और आम आदमी पार्टी के बीच मुकाबला कांटे का है। बीजेपी चाहती है कि स्टैंडिंग कमेटी का चेयरमैन उसका हो, और केजरीवाल किसी कीमत पर ये होने नहीं देना चाहते। इसी चक्कर में MCD में पहले ही दिन लात-घूंसे और कुर्सी-टेबल्स चल गईं। शुक्रवार को जो हुआ, वह आने वाले 5 साल का सिर्फ ट्रेलर है।
The real reason behind the ruckus in MCD on Day One
There was ruckus in the first house meeting of the newly elected Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday, when AAP councillors rushed to the well when presiding officer Satya Sharma invited the 10 nominated councillors known as aldermen, to come and take oath. All these aldermen, from BJP, were nominated by the Lt. Governor. AAP councillors prevented the oath taking by standing on tables, shouting slogans and started jostling with BJP councillors. In the melee, several councillors were injured and had to be taken to hospitals.
As a result, no oath taking could take place and the elections of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and members of standing committees was left in the lurch. AAP and BJP councillors reached the dais, while some of them tried to snatch papers from the presiding officer. Scuffle broke out between AAP councillor Praveen Kumar and some BJP councillors. Security personnel entered the chamber, and in the melee, the podium was damaged. The presiding officer adjourned the meeting for an hour.
When the House reassembled, councillors from both sides started the ruckus, climbed on the presiding offer’s table and broke mikes. One AAP councillor lifted a chair in order to hit someone but was prevented by his colleague. The presiding officer adjourned the House again, came back after 15 minutes, warned the members of action, but when the melee continued, she adjourned the House for the day.
BJP MPs Meenakshi Lekhi reached Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with seven party councillors, who received injuries. Thirteen injured AAP councllors went to Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Hospital for treatment. One councillor had to be taken on stretcher.
The House was decorated with flowers and garlands when the meeting began, but at the end of the day, after scuffles and unruly scenes, it looked like a war zone. There were broken chairs , tables and mikes lying all around. The presiding officer had to be escorted out with the help of marshals.
The presence of AAP MLAs and BJP MPs inside the house was because of the provision that 13 MLAs and all seven MPs can cast their votes in the election for mayor. AAP had come prepared with its 13 MLAs, who joined the ruckus.
The main cause behind the ruckus was the appointment of 10 aldermen nominated by Lt Governor. AAP leaders feared that BJP may try to win the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. AAP MLA Atishi alleged that BJP was resorting to ‘cheating’ in order to elect its candidate as Mayor.
BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said the Lt. Governor had the powers to nominate aldermen and there was no question of ‘cheating’. AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that the presiding officer was supposed to ensure oath taking of new members and election of mayor only, but the elections of deputy mayor and standing committees were also included in the day’s list of business.
As per rules, nominated members can only vote in the elections of standing committees and they cannot vote in the elections for mayor and deputy mayor.
In the 250-member MCD, 7 Lok Sabha MPs, 3 Rajya Sabha MPs and 14 MLAs can cast their votes for the election of mayor. Out of the total of 274 votes, Congress had already declared it would not take part in voting, though it has 9 elected councillors. Leaving out these 9 votes, the total comes to 265 and the majority figure stands at 133.
BJP has 104 elected councillors, one MLA and 7 Lok Sabha MPs, and its voting strength, adding all these three, stands at 112.
AAP has 134 elected councillors, 3 Rajya Sabha MPs and `13 MLAs who can vote. Its voting strength stands at 150, seventeen more than the required majority vote. If 10 nominated aldermen cast their votes with BJP, the party’s total voting strength comes to 122, that is, less than the required majority vote. In such a situation, BJP cannot win the election of Mayor.
When the voters of Delhi have given a clear majority to Arvind Kejriwal’s party in MCD, and its victory in Mayor and Deputy Mayor election is almost final, the question arises: why this ruckus? What does the AAP leaders fear for?
The answer could be: mistrust. BJP can win the mayor election only if some AAP councillors indulge in cross voting. Kejriwal does not trust all his elected councillors. That is the reason why he wanted his own man to be appointed presiding officer to oversee elections of mayor and deputy mayor. But the Lt. Governor did not toe his line. This is the reason why AAP leaders are angry and their councillors stood up on the table and snatched papers to stop the House proceedings.
The second reason is, nominated aldermen cannot vote for mayor and deputy mayor elections, but they can vote for election of standing committees. In MCD, members of standing committees have financial powers and these are coveted posts. The actual battle is for the posts of chairmen of standing committees, and Kejriwal and his advisers want to scuttle the elections. That is why there were fisticuffs and ruckus on the first day of the House meeting. Friday’s shameful incident is only a trailer for the coming five years in MCD.
श्री सम्मेद शिखर : प्रदर्शनकारियों को जैनियों से सीखना चाहिए
झारखंड के पारसनाथ में श्री सम्मेद शिखर तीर्थ की पवित्रता बनाए रखने के केंद्र सरकार के फैसले पर जैन समुदाय में खुशी की लहर दौड़ गई है। गुरुवार को सरकार ने श्री सम्मेद शिखर को पर्यटन स्थल घोषित करने के फैसले को वापस ले लिया और साथ ही यह आदेश भी दिया कि इस तीर्थ स्थल की पवित्रता किसी कीमत पर भंग न हो। पारसनाथ को पर्यटन स्थल के रूप में विकसित करने के फैसले के खिलाफ जैन समुदाय के लोगों द्वारा देशव्यापी विरोध के बाद सरकार ने यह कदम उठाया।
पर्यावरण मंत्रालय ने गुरुवार को झारखंड सरकार को एक ऑफिस मैमोरैंडम भेजा। इस मैमोरैंडम में झारखंड सरकार को सम्मेद शिखर में पर्यटन और अन्य गतिविधियों जैसे- शराब, मांसाहारी भोजन, तेज म्यूजिक, अनधिकृत कैंपिंग और ट्रेकिंग पर प्रतिबंध लगाने के लिए तत्काल सभी आवश्यक कदम उठाने का निर्देश दिया गया।
मंत्रालय ने तत्काल प्रभाव से पारसनाथ अभ्यारण्य पर पर्यावरण की दृष्टि से संवेदनशील क्षेत्र (ईएसजेड) संबंधी अधिसूचना को संशोधित कर लिया। झारखंड के गिरिडीह जिले में पारसनाथ पहाड़ी में जैन धर्म का गर्भगृह स्थित है।
पारसनाथ में संशोधित ईएसजेड अधिसूचना को लागू करने और उसकी निगरानी के लिए पर्यावरण मंत्रालय ने एक समिति भी गठित की है। इस समिति में जैन समुदाय के दो सदस्य और स्थानीय आदिवासी समुदाय के एक सदस्य को स्थायी सदस्य के रूप में शामिल किया जाएगा।
पर्यावरण मंत्री भूपेंद्र यादव ने कहा, सम्मेद शिखरजी पर्वत (पारसनाथ पहाड़ी) जैन धर्म का सबसे पवित्र और श्रद्धेय तीर्थ स्थान है। उन्होंने कहा, ‘केंद्र सरकार जैन समाज की आस्था का सम्मान करती है। श्री सम्मेद शिखर जी की पवित्रता का आदर करती है और इस तीर्थस्थल की पवित्रता को बनाए रखने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है।’
केंद्र ने ईएसजेड अधिसूचना के खंड 3 के क्रियान्वयन पर तत्काल रोक लगा दी है, जिसमें सभी तरह की पर्यटन गतिविधियां शामिल हैं। जैन संतों और समुदाय के अन्य प्रमुख सदस्यों ने केंद्र सरकार के इस फैसले का स्वागत किया है।
मेरे प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में गुरुवार की रात एक इंटरव्यू में जैन संत आचार्य नयन पद्मसागर जी महाराज ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को ‘आध्यात्मिक युगपुरुष’ बताया और कहा, ‘हम जानते थे कि वह हमारी मांग को स्वीकार करेंगे और हम बहुत खुश हैं। हमारे तीर्थ स्थान की सुरक्षा निश्चित रूप से भारत की महान आध्यात्मिक विरासत के संरक्षण को सुनिश्चित करेगी।’
यह अच्छी बात है कि देर से ही सही लेकिन सरकार ने 4 साल पहले हुई गलती को सुधार लिया। बड़ी बात यह है कि जैन समाज के सबसे बड़े तीर्थ श्री सम्मेद शिखर की पवित्रता खतरे में पड़ने की आशंका थी, लेकिन इसके बाद भी जैन समाज ने शान्ति के साथ, सद्भाव के साथ और धैर्य के साथ अपनी बात कही। जैन समाज ने पूरे देश में प्रदर्शन किए, लेकिन कहीं किसी आम आदमी को दिक्कत नहीं हुई, कहीं से किसी तरह की अप्रिय घटना की खबर नहीं आई। अलग-अलग शहरों में हजारों लोग जुटे, लेकिन कहीं गड़बड़ नहीं हुई।
यही हमारे शांतिप्रिय जैन समाज की खासियत है, इससे सीख लेनी चाहिए। देश में जैन समाज की आबादी सिर्फ 0.45 फीसदी यानी कि करीब 50 लाख है। जैन समाज के आंदोलन और सरकार के फैसले से यह साबित होता है कि भले ही किसी समाज की आबादी कम हो लेकिन अगर वह अपनी जायज मांग को जायज तरीके से रखते हैं तो लोकतंत्र में उनकी बात सुनी जाती है और सरकार को उस पर ऐक्शन लेना पड़ता है।
Sri Sammed Shikhar protest: Other protesters must learn from the Jains
The Jain community has expressed satisfaction over the Centre’s decision on Thursday to preserve the sanctity of Sri Sammed Shikhar in Parasnath, Jharkhand. This move came after nationwide protests by members of Jain community against the previous decision to develop Parasnath as a tourist spot.
In an office memorandum issued in pursuance of the Cabinet’s decision, the environment ministry on Thursday directed the Jharkhand government to immediately take all steps necessary to ensure that the ban on tourism and other activities such as use of liquor, non-vegetarian food, use of loud music, unauthorised camping and trekking in Parasnath sanctuary is enforced.
The ministry has modified with immediate effect the eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) notification on Parasnath sanctuary accordingly. The Parasnath Hill comprises the sanctum sanctorum of Jain religion in Giridih district of Jharkhand.
The environment ministry has also constituted a committee for monitoring of the enforcement of provision of the modified ESZ notification in Parasnath. Two members from Jain community and one member from local tribal community will be included in the committee as permanent members.
Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said, Sammed Shikharji Parvat (Parasnath Hill) is the most sacred and revered Teerth Sthan (pilgrimage) of Jain religion. “The Centre recognises the sanctity and significance of this place for the Jain community, and is committed towards maintaining the same”, he said.
The Centre has stayed the implementation of Clause 3 of the ESZ notification that relates to the buffer zone beyond the sacred Parasnath Hill including among others all tourism and eco-tourism activities. Jain saints and other leading members of the community have welcomed this decision of the central government.
In an interview in my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Thursday night, Jain saint Acharya Nayan Padmasagar Ji Maharaj praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “adhyatmik yugpurush” (spiritual statesman) and said, “we knew he would accept our demand and we are very much happy. Protection of our pilgrimage spot will surely ensure preservation of India’s great spiritual legacy.”
It is a matter of happiness that the Centre has corrected a mistake that was done four years ago when Parasnath Hill and sanctuary was declared a tourist spot. The Jain community was apprehensive that the sanctity of the pilgrimage spot could be despoiled if tourists are allowed to come in hordes and consume liquor and meat. It is also admirable that the Jain community held peaceful protests throughout the country to convey its feelings to those in power. There was no untoward incident despite congregation of thousands of members of this community in different cities.
This is a sterling quality of our peace-loving Jain community. The Jain community in India numbers hardly 50 lakhs, which amounts to only 0.45 per cent of the population. Others should learn from the peace-loving Jain community. Even though they form a miniscule proportion, they conveyed their demands in a peaceful manner. Naturally, in a democracy, their voice was heard and the government took action.
