Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday made a politically significant remark about what he described as “shortcut politics”. Addressing a BJP rally in Deoghar, Jharkhand, after launching projects worth Rs 16,800 crores, Modi said, “people should stay away from the ideology of shortcut politics, as this can cause short circuit and can ruin the country.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks must be viewed from the anarchy that is prevailing in Sri Lanka and several state governments which are giving away freebies. Modi said, “I want to caution everybody about the challenge of shortcut politics that we are facing. It is very easy to make populist promises and collect votes through shortcut methods. Such leaders do not have to toil at all, nor do they have to think about the long-term consequences of populism. But it is a fact that that a country that adopts shortcut politics, faces a short circuit someday or the other. Shortcut politics can ruin the nation.”

Modi said, “ In India, we should remain away from such shortcut politics. If we must take India to great heights in the 100th year of our independence, then we should toil harder to achieve this. There is no shortcut to toil. After independence, political parties that were dominant, adopted too many shortcuts. The result was, countries that achieved freedom with India, moved far ahead, and we could not progress much. Today we should save our country from such old mistakes.”

The Prime Minister said: “Let me give an example about electricity, which is very essential, even in our villages. If we do not have electricity, we cannot recharge our cellphones, nor can we watch television, nor can we start pumps to provide water to each house. If we do not have electricity, we may have to go back to the age of using kerosene. Factories will close and workers will lose jobs, if there is no electricity. But we cannot produce electricity through shortcuts”.

Modi said, “In Jharkhand, we had to invest thousands of crores to set up power plants. Such investments provide new jobs and new opportunities. Political parties, which adopt shortcuts, squander away that money in order to get votes. Such methods can harm the nation’s progress.”

“From the deepest of my heart, I would appeal to our countrymen to stay away from shortcut politics. Leaders who indulge in shortcut politics, will not build new airports or modern highways or new AIIMS hospitals or medical colleges in each district for you. ..In Jharkhand, I have launched several highways. It is very easy to tell people that people won’t have to pay for bus tickets or auto fares. It can sound populist, but such shortcuts can ruin the state’s economy. If government does not get money, from where will funds come for building new roads and highways.”

Why did the Prime Minister say this? To which electricity freebies was he referring to? To which political parties in India was the Prime Minister referring to? Was he indirectly pointing towards the economic collapse of Sri Lanka? We have seen how the people of Sri Lanka are yearning for food, fuel and essential commodities.

Modi is right when he says that freebies are not good for a healthy economy, they are not good for citizens who pay taxes, and for the government which has to implement welfare schemes for poor people. In Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party government is providing free electricity up to 200 units and free water up to 20,000 litres per month, and in Punjab, the AAP government has announced it will provide free electricity up to 300 units from July 1.

The Punjab government is under a huge loan burden of Rs 3 lakh crores. It does not have money to repay interest on loan taken, but in order to garner votes, AAP leaders promised free electricity, and swept the elections to form their government. The free electricity will lead to incurring a fresh burden of Rs 5,000 crore on the state exchequer. Power generation companies will collect full tariff from the government.

In April, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chandra said, if freebies like free power and electricity, and farmers’ loan waiver schemes continued, India could face a similar crisis that Sri Lanka is facing right now. It was towards this challenge that the Prime Minister was pointing at his Jharkhand rally. Freebies can make a nation bankrupt, as it happened in Sri Lanka. Though Modi did not name Sri Lanka, his warnings will have to be viewed in the light of what is happening in that neighbouring country.

Sri Lanka has a 2.25 crore population, almost the same as that of Delhi, but the Sri Lankans are now facing severe food and fuel shortage. They do not have cooking gas and petrol, and the prices of rice, wheat and all essential commodities have skyrocketed. One kg of milk powder costs Sri Lankan Rs 2,900. A litre of palm oil or mustard oil sells at Rs 3,000. Tomatoes are being sold between Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 a kilo. Wheat is being sold at Rs 400 to 500 a kg, while rice is being sold at Rs 600 a kg. India TV correspondent T. Raghavan, who is presently in Colombo and is reporting live from Ground Zero, says, one LPG cylinder is available for Rs 5,000. One has to wait for 12 days to get a cylinder. There is rationing of petrol up to three litres per person, and that too, is available after waiting in queues for ten days.

These facts are truly worrying, and Sri Lanka is fast entering a period of nationwide anarchy. President Gotabaya Rajapkse has fled to Maldives, thousands of protesters have occupied the Prime Minister’s office and state television headquarters. The common people are blaming Rajapakse family for bringing the country to ruin.

In the Rajapakse dynasty, Gotabaya was the President, Mahinda was the PM, Mahinda’s brother Chamal Pajapakse was irrigation minister, his brother Basil Rajapakse was finance minister, and Mahinda’s son Namal Rajapakse was the sports minister. The Rajapakse family was ruling this island nation. Rajapakse lowered taxes, implemented populist schemes, the exchequer was empty and fresh currency notes were printed, and billions of dollars of loans were taken from abroad, mainly China. The government is now bankrupt. Most of the leaders have either fled the country or are underground.

We, in India, should learn from what happened in Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been, time and again, cautioning us about dynastic politics, which has harmed the nation. He has also cautioned us about freebie shortcut politics. When the state exchequer runs out of money, public welfare schemes are stopped, and then people come out on the streets, as it happened in Sri Lanka. The Rajapakse family was in control of government, armed forces and bureaucracy, and in order to garner votes, the family was disbursing freebies and getting popular votes in return. The consequence: Out of 2.25 crore Sri Lankans, nearly 25 lakh people are starving. They do not have food to eat.

The rest of the population, mainly from middle and lower middles classes, are struggling to make both ends meet. A packet of biscuit costs Rs 150 and a litre of milk costs Rs 500. Children are unable to buy biscuit and milk. Dynastic and shortcut politics are the bane of a nation’s economy. Sri Lanka is moving fast towards anarchy. Let us learn from the Sri Lankan crisis.

पिछले चार दिनों से श्रीलंका में अराजकता की स्थिति बनी हुई है। किसी गुप्त स्थान पर छिपे हुए राष्ट्रपति गोटाबाया राजपक्षे ने अपना इस्तीफा भेज दिया है, और कोलंबो में राष्ट्रपति भवन पर प्रदर्शनकारियों की भीड़ का कब्जा है।

श्रीलंकाई मीडिया के मुताबिक, बुधवार को एक कार्यवाहक राष्ट्रपति शपथ लेंगे और एक सर्वदलीय सरकार का गठन किया जाएगा। स्पीकर महिंदा अभयवर्धने और पार्टी के नेताओं ने 20 जुलाई को संसद में वोटिंग के जरिए एक नए राष्ट्रपति का चुनाव करने का फैसला किया है। विपक्ष के नेता सजित प्रेमदासा इस पद के प्रबल दावेदार हैं। पूर्व राष्ट्रपति, पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री और सरकार के अन्य मंत्रियों को श्रीलंका छोड़ने से रोकने के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट में एक याचिका दायर की गई है।

श्रीलंका में जो हो रहा है उसे पूरी दुनिया हैरत भरी निगाहों से देख रही है। श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति गायब हैं, प्रधानमंत्री के घर को प्रदर्शनकारियों ने जला दिया, और राष्ट्रपति भवन उनके लिए पिकनिक की जगह बन गया है जहां वे स्विमिंग पूल में नहा रहे हैं और किचन में खाना बनाकर खा रहे हैं। यानी कि एक तरह से देखा जाए तो श्रीलंका में कोई सरकार ही नहीं है। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने कहा है कि नई सरकार के सत्ता में आने के बाद वे राष्ट्रपति भवन को खाली कर देंगे।

लेकिन लाख टके का सवाल यह है कि क्या नई सरकार के सत्ता में आने के बाद श्रीलंका सामान्य स्थिति में वापस आ सकता है? क्या लोगों को सस्ता खाना, पेट्रोल, डीजल, एलपीजी और अन्य ईंधन मिलना शुरू हो जाएगा? क्या आर्थिक स्थिति में सुधार होगा और क्या जरूरी चीजों के दाम कम होंगे?

अफवाहें तब उड़ीं जब श्रीलंका की संसद के स्पीकर ने घोषणा की कि राष्ट्रपति गोटबाया राजपक्षे एक पड़ोसी देश में हैं, लेकिन जल्द ही सेना ने इसका खंडन कर दिया। राष्ट्रपति सुरक्षा बलों की सुरक्षा में श्रीलंकाई नेवी के एक जहाज में रुके हुए हैं। राजपक्षे सरकार के अन्य बड़े नेता अंडरग्राउंड हो गए हैं। राष्ट्रपति भवन की रखवाली कर रहे सेना और पुलिसकर्मी गायब हो गए हैं। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने सोशल मीडिया पर जो वीडियो पोस्ट किए, उन्हें देखकर आम जनता की नाराजगी और बढ़ गई है। जनता यह देखकर हैरान है कि जिस वक्त उन्हें दो वक्त की रोटी के भी लाले हैं, उस वक्त राष्ट्रपति और अन्य नेता पूरी शान-ओ-शौकत से रह रहे थे। इस विरोध प्रदर्शन को सिंहली में ‘अरगलया’ नाम दिया गया है जिसका मतलब ‘संघर्ष’ होता है। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने लाखों श्रीलंकाई रुपये के नोट पुलिस को सौंपे हैं।

यह स्थिति कैसे बनी? दो महीने के लगातार विरोध के बाद इसका क्लाइमेक्स नौ जुलाई को हुआ जब सोशल मीडिया पर लोगों को गॉल फेस पर इकट्ठा होने के लिए कहा गया। इसका मुख्य आयोजक इंटर यूनिवर्सिटी स्टूडेंट्स फेडरेशन था। पुलिस ने पहले उन्हें तितर-बितर करने के लिए आंसू गैस के गोले दागे, लेकिन कामयाबी नहीं मिली। जल्द ही आसपास के इलाकों के हजारों लोग श्रीलंका का राष्ट्रध्वज लेकर विरोध प्रदर्शन में शामिल हो गए और पुलिसकर्मी नदारद होने लगे। कुछ ही घंटों के अंदर हजारों प्रदर्शनकारी राष्ट्रपति भवन में जबरन घुस गए और उस पर कब्जा कर लिया।

कैमरे पर बात करते समय आम श्रीलंकाई लोगों का गुस्सा साफ नजर आया। लोगों के पास बच्चों के दूध के पैसे नहीं है और राष्ट्रपति भवन में केक खाए जा रहे थे। जिस वक्त आम नागरिक 5 लीटर पेट्रोल के लिए 5 दिन लाइन में खड़े रहते हैं, उसी समय श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति, प्रधानमंत्री और अन्य मंत्रियों को न ईंधन की कोई कमी है और न खाने की। श्रीलंका की आम जनता जहां 2O-20 घंटे की बिजली कटौती झेल रही है, वहीं राष्ट्रपति भवन में न सिर्फ चौबीसों घंटे बिजली की व्यवस्था है बल्कि पावर बैक-अप का भी इंतजाम है।

सोमवार की रात अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने आम लोगों को यह कहते हुए दिखाया कि वे पहली बार राष्ट्रपति आवास में आए हैं, और उन्हें ईंधन, गैस, बिजली और खाने की कोई कमी नजर नहीं आई। एक शख्स ने कहा, ‘इस स्थिति में बदलाव होना चाहिए।’ एक महिला ने कहा, ‘हम 3 किलोमीटर पैदल चले, और फिर यहां आने के लिए बस ली। हमें यह सरकार नहीं चाहिए। हमें एक नई सरकार चाहिए।’ एक अन्य व्यक्ति ने कहा, ‘हमारा विरोध अहिंसक है, हम शांति चाहते हैं। युवा और आम लोग यह संदेश देना चाहते हैं कि वे शांतिपूर्ण बदलाव चाहते हैं। फिर भी हमें बलिदान के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए।’

श्रीलंका की आर्थिक स्थिति अचानक नहीं बिगड़ी। राजपक्षे सरकार की गलत नीतियों के कारण खजाना खाली हो गया। गोटबाया राजपक्षे ने टैक्स में जबरदस्त कटौती की, और ऑर्गेनिक खेती को बढ़ावा देने के नाम पर केमिकल फर्टिलाइजर्स के इस्तेमाल पर पाबंदी लगा दी। इससे कृषि उत्पादन में भारी गिरावट आई। देश के आयात में वृद्धि हुई, जबकि निर्यात घट गया।

श्रीलंका का विदेशी मुद्र भंडार धीरे-धीरे खत्म होने लगा और इसी साल मार्च में हालत यह हो गई कि सरकार के पास कर्ज का ब्याज चुकाने के पैसे भी नहीं बचे। दवाएं खत्म हो गईं, राशन कम हो गया और हालत यह हो गई कि श्रीलंका की सरकार ने हर चीज की राशनिंग शुरू कर दी। पेट्रोल और डीजल आम जनता को देना बंद कर दिया, गैस सिलेंडर और चावल-दाल जैसी जरूरी चीजों की भी सरकार ने राशनिंग शुरू कर दी। जनता राष्ट्रपति गोटबाया राजपक्षे और प्रधानमंत्री महिंदा राजपक्षे से पद छोड़ने की मांग करने लगी।

श्रीलंका के पूर्व क्रिकेटर सनथ जयसूर्या ने कहा, ‘मुझे लगता है कि 9 जुलाई का दिन जनता का दिन था, और उस दिन जनता ने जो किया उसे देखकर मैं हैरान हूं। कोई भी हिंसा नहीं करना चाहता था। हम सब अहिंसक आंदोलन के पक्ष में थे। हमने यह सुनिश्चित किया कि राष्ट्रपति इस्तीफा दे दें। यह हमारे लिए दूसरी आजादी है।’

श्रीलंका की आबादी लगभग 2.25 करोड़ है। पिछली सरकारों ने इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर प्रोजेक्ट्स के निर्माण के लिए चीन से बेहिसाब कर्ज लिया। श्रीलंका की अर्थव्यवस्था में चीन का दखल काफी ज्यादा था, और जैसे-जैसे आर्थिक स्थिति में गिरावट आती गई, लोगों का गुस्सा बढ़ता गया। जनता के बढ़ते गुस्से को काबू में करने के लिए सरकार ने टैक्स कम कर दिया और नतीजा यह हुआ कि खजाना खाली हो गया। फर्टिलाइजर्स के इस्तेमाल पर पाबंदी लगने से कृषि उपज भी कम हो गई।

श्रीलंका की मुद्रास्फीति की दर 54 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा है, जबकि भारत की मुद्रास्फीति दर 6 से 7 फीसदी है। दूध 200 रुपये प्रति लीटर बिक रहा है, पेट्रोल सिर्फ जरूरी सेवाओं से जुड़े लोगों को दिया जा रहा है और वह भी 350 रुपये प्रति लीटर के हिसाब से। लोगों को ब्लैक में एक लीटर पेट्रोल 2000 रुपये में मिल रहा है।

चीन ने श्रीलंका इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर प्रोजेक्ट्स में अरबों डॉलर का निवेश किया था, लेकिन जब श्रीलंका की अर्थव्यवस्था चरमरा गई तो उसने और मदद देनी बंद कर दी। चीन की कंपनियों ने श्रीलंका के संसाधनों को जमकर लूटा। मुश्किल की इस घड़ी में भारत यथासंभव श्रीलंका की मदद कर रहा है। भारत ने श्रीलंका को चावल, चीनी, दवाएं, पेट्रोल-डीजल, कोरोना के टीके और खेती करने के लिए केमिकल फर्टिलाइजर जैसे सामान बड़ी मात्रा में भेजे हैं। इतना ही नहीं, भारत ने श्रीलंका को कर्ज चुकाने में भी काफी मदद की है। विदेशी कर्ज चुकाने में मदद के लिए भारत अब तक श्रीलंका को 3 अरब डॉलर की मदद दे चुका है। श्रीलंका के लोग मुश्किल वक्त में मदद के लिए भारत को शुक्रिया कह रहे हैं। पूर्व क्रिकेटर सनथ जयसूर्या ने कहा, ‘भारत और सारे मित्र देश हमारी मदद कर रहे हैं। भारत तो इस संकट की शुरुआत से ही हमारी काफ़ी मदद कर रहा है। मैं इस बात के लिए भारत का शुक्रगुजार हूं।’

ऐसे वक्त में जब श्रीलंका के लोग मदद करने के लिए भारत को धन्यवाद कह रहे हैं, कुछ लोग सोशल मीडिया पर सवाल उठा रहे हैं। वे पूछ रहे हैं कि भारत अपने पड़ोसी देश की मदद क्यों कर रहा है। वे साथ ही चेतावनी भी दे रहे हैं कि भारत का हाल भी श्रीलंका जैसा होने वाला है। वॉट्सऐप मैसेज में कहा जा रहा है कि भारत में भी लोगों के पास खाने को नहीं होगा, दवाओं की कमी हो जाएगी, लोग सड़कों पर उतरेंगे। हमारे देश में कुछ विरोधी दलों ने भी इन मैसेज को हवा देने की कोशिश की है। विरोधी दलों ते तमाम नेता ऐसा माहौल बनाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं जैसे देश की अर्थव्यवस्था डूबने वाली है। कुछ रोजगार का आंकड़ा बता रहे हैं, कोई रुपये की गिरती कीमत और महंगाई का हवाला दे रहे हैं, तो कुछ किसानों की हालत की बात कह रहे हैं।

तेलंगाना राष्ट्र समिति के मुखिया और तेलंगाना के मुख्यमंत्री के चंद्रशेखर राव ने तो यहां तक कह दिया, ‘मोदी जी लोगों को न तो पानी दे पा रहे हैं, न खाना दे पा रहे हैं और न काम दे पा रहे हैं। अब उन्हें इस्तीफा दे देना चाहिए।’ KCR खुद को विपक्ष का नेता और मोदी का विकल्प बताने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। लेकिन कांग्रेस के नेता राहुल गांधी का मानना है कि देश तो वही चला सकते हैं। कांग्रेस के नेता किसी विरोधी दल के नेता को बढ़ावा देने के लिए राजी नहीं है। कांग्रेस प्रवक्ता सुप्रिया श्रीनेत ने कहा, ‘नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में भारत भी श्रीलंका जैसी हालत की तरफ बढ़ रहा है। रुपया गिर रहा है, महंगाई और बेरोजगारी बढ़ रही है।’

राहुल गांधी और केसीआर के अलावा ममता बनर्जी विपक्ष की तीसरी ऐसी नेता हैं, जो मोदी विरोधी मोर्चे की लीडर बनना चाहती हैं। उनकी पार्टी के विधायक इदरीस अली ने कहा, ‘जो हाल श्रीलंका का हुआ, वही हाल भारत का भी हो सकता है। जो हाल श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति का हुआ, वैसा ही प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के साथ भी होगा। पब्लिक उन्हें भी कुर्सी से हटा देगी और मोदी को भागना पड़ेगा।’

इदरीस अली के इस बयान का जवाब बंगाल से BJP के सांसद सौमित्र खान ने दिया। उन्होंने कहा, ‘इदरीस अली के खिलाफ कई केस दर्ज हैं। वह खुद कानून से भागे-भागे फिर रहे हैं, इसीलिए प्रधानमंत्री के बारे में ऊटपटांग बयान दे रहे हैं।’ बीजेपी के प्रवक्ता सुधांशु त्रिवेदी ने विरोधी दलों को जबाव देते हुए कहा, ‘नरेंद्र मोदी की लोकप्रियता से विपक्ष पूरी तरह से हताश हो चुका है। विरोधियों को अपने लिए कोई रास्ता नजर नहीं आता। इसलिए जब भी कहीं कोई संकट दिखता है, तो विपक्षी दल उसमें अपने लिए मौका तलाशने लगते हैं।

आजकल अफवाहें फैलाना आसान है। सोशल मीडिया पर नेगेटिव न्यूज जल्दी वायरल होती है। इसी का फायदा उठाकर कुछ लोग सोशल मीडिया पर भविष्यवाणी कर रहे हैं कि भारत का हाल भी श्रीलंका जैसा हो जाएगा। असल में यह मोदी विरोधियों की दबी हुई इच्छा है जिसको वे जाहिर कर रहे हैं। ये वे लोग हैं जो किसी भी तरह मोदी को हराना चाहते हैं। ये वे लोग हैं जो 2-2 बार लोकसभा के चुनाव में और कई-कई बार विधानसभा के चुनाव में मोदी को हरा नहीं पाए। कभी उन्हें लगता था कि नागरिकता संशोधन कानून यानी कि CAA का आंदोलन पूरे देश में फैल जाएगा। कभी उन्हें लगा था कि भारत के मुसलमान सड़कों पर उतर आए हैं और अब मोदी के लिए सर्वाइव करना मुश्किल होगा। कभी उन्हें यह भी लगता था कि किसान आंदोलन से मोदी सरकार गिर जाएगी।

कोविड महामारी ने जब भारत को अपनी चपेट में लिया, तब इन लोगों को लगा था कि इतने बड़े देश में कमजोर हेल्थ इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर के चलते बड़ी संख्या में लोगों की मौत होगी, तबाही मचेगी और मोदी इससे पैदा हुए गुस्से का सामना नहीं कर पाएंगे। कभी इन्हें लगता है कि चीन मोदी को हराएगा, कभी लगता है कि अमेरिका मोदी को वैसे हटा देगा जैसे इमरान खान को हटा दिया। जब नौजवान सड़कों पर उतरे, रेलें फूंक दीं तो इन लोगों की उम्मीद फिर जागी। अब श्रीलंका में लोग सड़कों पर उतरे, राष्ट्रपति के घर में घुसे तो मोदी के इन विरोधियों को फिर से सपना देखने का मौका मिला है। इनकी उम्मीद फिर जाग गई है।लेकिन जैसे CAA का सपना टूटा, किसान आंदोलन का सपना टूटा, कोरोना के महामारी से विनाश की जो उम्मीद थी वो टूटी वैसे ही श्रीलंका वाला सपना भी टूटेगा।

मैं कुछ और देशों की हालत बताता हूं। चीन के 6 बैंक डूब गए हैं, क्योंकि वहां के सेंट्रल बैंक ने इन बैंकों को पैसे की सप्लाई बंद कर दी। ऐसे में जिन लोगों का पैसा इन बैंकों में जमा था, वे अब सड़कों पर उतर आए हैं। चीन के झेंघझोऊ शहर में अपनी लाखों की जमापूंजी गंवा चुके हजारों लोगों ने विरोध प्रदर्शन किया और पुलिस पर पत्थर बरसाए। एक बड़ी रेटिंग एजेंसी की रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि अमेरिका को अगले 12 महीनों में एक बड़ी मंदी का सामना करना पड़ेगा। फेडरल रिजर्व मंदी से बचने के लिए लगातार ब्याज दरें बढ़ा रहा है, लेकिन अर्थशास्त्रियों का मानना है कि अमेरिका धीरे-धीरे मंदी की ओर बढ़ रहा है। बैंक ऑफ इंग्लैंड ने भी चेतावनी दी है कि मुद्रास्फीति की ऊंची दरों के कारण दुनिया भर में लोगों की आमदनी घट रही है। मुद्रास्फीति के दबाव के कारण ब्रिटेन की जीडीपी विकास दर घट रही है। यूक्रेन युद्ध के कारण कई यूरोपीय देश भी महंगाई की भयंकर मार झेल रहे हैं।

मैंने कई अर्थशास्त्रियों से बात की और उनसे भारत की अर्थव्यवस्था के बारे में पूछा। ज्यादतर एक्सपर्ट्स ने कहा कि इन बातों में कोई दम नहीं है कि भारत की अर्थव्यवस्था बहुत बुरी हालत में हैं। जब मैंने पूछा कि मंहगाई तो बढ़ रही है. तो उन्होंने कहा कि मंगहाई अर्थव्यवस्था का बहुत बड़ा इंडिकेटर नहीं हैं, और अगर इसे इंडिकेटर मान भी लिया जाए तो यूक्रेन युद्ध के कारण जरूरी चीजों की कीमतों पर असर पूरी दुनिया में पड़ा है। अमेरिका में मंहगाई दर 11 फीसदी है, यूरोप में 12 फीसदी है जबकि हमारे देश में यह 6-7 फीसदी है। इसलिए यह नहीं कहा जा सकता कि अर्थव्यवस्था मुश्किल में है।

भारत का विदेशी मुद्रा भंडार 601 अरब डॉलर है, और इसके अलावा 40 अरब डॉलर का गोल्ड रिजर्व भी है। महंगाई दर काबू में है। यह सही है कि चीजों की कीमतें बढ़ी हैं, बेरोजगारी की दर भी बढ़ी है, लेकिन कोरोना के कारण पूरी दुनिया में यह दिक्कत है। हमारे देश का हाल फिर भी बेहतर है। इसलिए सोशल मीडिया पर डरावने मैसेज पर यकीन करने की बजाय हमें अपने अर्थशास्त्रियों की बातों पर भरोसा करना चाहिए।

For the last four days, a state of anarchy prevails in Sri Lanka, with President Gotabaya Rajapakse sending his resignation letter from a secret hiding place, and huge crowds taking over the Presidential Palace in Colombo.

According to Sri Lankan media, an acting President will be sworn in on Wednesday, and an all-party government will be formed. Speaker Mahinda Abeywardena, party leaders have decided to elect a new President on July 20, through a vote in Parliament. Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa is the top contender for this post. A petition has been filed in Supreme Court to prevent the former President, former PM and other top former ministers from leaving Sri Lanka.

The entire world is watching the developments in Sri Lanka. As of now, there is practically no government functioning, the Prime Minister’s house was set on fire by protesters, and the Presidential Palace has become a picnic spot for protesters, who are taking bath in the swimming pool and cooking food in the campus. The protesters have said they would vacate the Presidential Palace, once a new government takes over.

But the 64-million dollar question remains. Can Sri Lanka limp back to normalcy once a new government takes over? Will people start getting cheaper food, petrol, diesel, LPG and other fuel? Will the economic conditions improve and will the prices of essential commodities come down?

Rumours floated when the Speaker announced that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is in a neighbouring country, but this was soon denied by armed forces. The President is staying in a Sri Lankan navy ship, guarded by security forces. Other top leaders of the Rajapaksa government have all gone underground. Army and policemen, who were guarding the Presidential Palace have vanished. Videos posted on social media by protesters have angered the general public, who now find that the President and other leaders were living a life of luxury at a time when people were struggling for food and fuel. The protests that have erupted have been named ‘Aragalaya’ meaning ‘struggle’ in Sinhalese. Millions of Sri Lankan rupee currency notes have been handed over by protesters to police.

How did this situation come about? After two months of continued protests, the climax came on July 9 when the calls came on social media for citizens to assemble at Galle Face. The main organizer was the Inter University Students Federation. Police first fired tear gas to disperse them, but failed. Soon, thousands of people from nearby regions joined the protests, carrying the National Lions Flag, and policemen started vanishing. Within a few hours, thousands of protesters forced their way into the Presidential Palace and occupied it.

The anger of common Sri Lankans was evident when they spoke on camera. Children were not getting milk to drink, but cakes were being eaten inside the Palace. Common people stood in long queues for five days to get five litres of petrol, but the President, PM and other ministers faced no fuel or food shortage. The common people were facing nearly 20-hour long power cuts, but there was round-the-clock power supply in the Palace, along with power backup.

In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Monday night, we showed common people saying they have entered the Palace for the first time, and did not find any shortage of fuel, gas, electricity and food. “This situation must change”, one man said. “We walked for three kilometres, and then took a bus to come here (Palace). We do not want this government. We need a new government”, a woman said. “Our struggle is non-violent, we want peace. The youths and common people want to give the message that they want a peaceful change. Yet, we should be prepared for sacrifice”, said another man.

Sri Lanka’s economic condition did not deteriorate suddenly. It was because of the wrong policies of the Rajapaksa government that the treasury became empty. Gotabaya Rajapaksa gave huge cuts in tax, and banned use of chemical fertilizers in the name of promoting organic farming. This brought about a huge drop in agricultural production. Imports increased, while exports dwindled, more so, because of the Covid situation.

Sri Lanka started losing foreign exchange, and by March this year, the government had no money to repay even interest on loans taken. There were acute shortages of medicines and food. The government imposed rationing, and supply of petrol and diesel was reduced to a trickle. There was rationing of LPG cylinders and rice and pulses. There was widespread demand for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahindra Rajapksa to quit.

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya said, “July 9 was People’s Day. I am surprised on seeing what the people achieved on that day. Nobody wanted violence. We wanted a non-violent struggle. We ensured that the President my quit. This is a second freedom for us.”

Sri Lanka’s population is almost 2.25 crore. The previous governments took huge loans from China for building infrastructure projects. Chinese interference in Sri Lankan economy was huge, but as the economic conditions declined, people became agree. In order to control mounting public anger, the government reduced taxes, and the treasury became empty. The ban on use of fertilizers brought agricultural production crashing.

Sri Lanka’s rate of inflation was more than 54 per cent, while India’s inflation rate is six to seven per cent. Milk was being sold at Rs 200 per litre, petrol was being sold to essential services at Rs 350 per litre. A litre of petrol in blackmarket was being sold at Rs 2000.

China had invested billions of dollars as loans in Sri Lanka’s infrastructure projects, but when the Sri Lanka economy collapsed, it stopped giving any further assistance. Chinese companies exploited Sri Lankan resources to the optimum. In this hour of crisis, it is India which has stepped in by providing assistance in the form of rice, sugar, medicines, fuel, Covid vaccines and chemical fertilizers to give agriculture a boost. India also helped Sri Lanka to pay off its loans. Till now, India has given 3 billion dollars worth assistance to Sri Lanka. The common Sri Lankans are praising India in gratitude. Former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya said, “India and some other countries are helping us. India has been helping us in a big way since the beginning. We are grateful to India for this.”

At a time when the people of Sri Lanka are thanking India for its help, there are busybodies on social media who are raising questions. They are questioning why India is helping its neighbouring country. They are also warning that India may soon face a Sri Lankan type economic crisis. On WhatsApp, messages of warning are being circulated telling people that India, too, may face shortage of medicines, cheaper food and fuel very soon. Some of our opposition parties have also started giving such messages a boost. They are citing figures of unemployment, fall of Indian rupee, price rise and the conditions of farmers.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao even said, “Modi Ji is unable to provide food, water and work to people. He must resign.” KCR is trying to project himself as a leader of Opposition camp and as an alternative to Modi. But, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi feels it is he who can run this country. Congress is unwilling to cede its opposition space to others. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, “under Modi’s leadership, Indian economy is heading the Sri Lankan way, the Rupee is falling, and inflation and unemployment is increasing.”

After from KCR and Rahul Gandhi, there is a third opposition leader Mamata Banerjee, who dreams of becoming the leader of anti-Modi front. Her party MLA Idris Ali said, “India will face a similar situation like Sri Lanka. Modi will face the same fate of Sri Lankan President. The people will remove him from power and Modi will have to flee.”

BJP MP from West Bengal, Soumitra Khan replied to Idris Ali’s remark. Khan said, “There are several cases filed against Idris Ali. He is himself fleeing from the hands of law and making funny comments about our PM.” BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “The opposition is frustrated because of Narendra Modi’s popularity. The opposition parties are unable to find a way out. That is why, wherever there see a crisis, they sniff an opportunity for themselves.”

Spreading rumours is easy because of the all-pervasive social media nowadays. Moreover, negative comments become viral immediately. This is the reason why some busybodies are making doomsday predictions about India going the Sri Lankan way. These comments reflect the suppressed desires of Modi-haters. These are people who want Modi to lose, by hook by crook. The failed to defeat Modi in two successive Lok Sabha general elections and several state assembly elections. At one point, they felt that the agitation against Citizenship Amendment Act will spread. At another point, they felt that the Muslims in India have stood up and it will be difficult for Modi to survive. They also felt that the farmers’ agitation would bring Modi down.

When Covid pandemic struck India, these people thought, Modi will be unable to face the fury that would engulf the country because of rising death toll due to a weak health infrastructure. At times, they felt that China will bring Modi down, or the US will bring Modi down like it did to Imran Khan. When youths came out on streets against Agniveer policy and set fire to railway coaches, their hopes again rose. Now that people in Sri Lanka have forced their President and Prime Minister to leave, the hopes of some opposition leaders have again risen. But all their dreams right from CAA, farmers’ agitation, Covid deaths to Agniveer protests have come crashing. Their dream of a Sri Lankan situation taking place in India is also bound to crash.

Let me explain the position in some other countries. In China, there are protests after six banks collapsed when China’s central bank stopped supply of money to these banks. There were huge protests and stoning at police by thousands in Zhengzhou, who have lost millions worth savings. The US is staring at a big recession in the next 12 months, according to a ratings agency report. The Federal Reserve is raising interest rates to stave off recession, but economists agree that the US is slowly moving towards recession. Bank of England has warned that the earnings of people across the world are on a decline due to high inflation rates. Brtain’s GDP growth rate is declining due to inflationary pressure. Several European countries are also facing inflation due to the Ukraine war.

I spoke to several economists and asked about India. Most of them said, there is no basis to the assumption that the Indian economy is in dire straits. When I asked about rising inflation, they said, inflation is not a big indicator for an economy. The Ukraine war has brought about inflation in most of the countries. In the US, the inflation rate is nearly 11 pc, in Europe, it if 12 per cent, and in India, it is 6-7 per cent. It cannot be said that the Indian economy is facing crisis.

We have a foreign exchange reserve of 601 billion dollars apart from 40 billion dollars of gold reserves. The inflation rate is under control. Prices of several commodities have risen, and the unemployment rate is also on the rise, but this situation prevails in other countries too, because of the Covid pandemic. Instead of believing in doomsday predictions on social media, we should trust what our economists say.

जापान के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री शिंजो आबे के निधन से भारत ने एक अच्छे दोस्त को खो दिया है। शिंजो आबे की शुक्रवार को जापान की प्राचीन राजधानी नारा में हत्या कर दी गई। रेलवे स्टेशन के पास चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान एक सिरफिरे ने उन्हें गोली मार दी। जब ये खबर आई तो पहले यह यकीन ही नहीं हुआ। क्योंकि अमूमन जापान से इस तरह की खबरें नहीं आती हैं। वहां इस तरह से राजनीतिक हत्याएं नहीं होती हैं। शिंजो आबे पर हमले की खबर से पूरी दुनिया स्तब्ध रह गई।

शिंजो आबे पर हमला करनेवाला शख्स उनसे कुछ मीटर की दूरी पर पीछे की तरफ खड़ा था। उसके हाथ में हैंडमेड बूंदक थी जिसे दो पाइप और बोर्ड का इस्तेमाल कर बनाया गया था। हमलावर ने मौका मिलते ही निशाना साधकर शिंजो आबे पर फायरिंग कर दी। उसकी बंदूक से निकली दो गोलियां शिंजो आबे की गर्दन और छाती पर लगीं। खून अत्यधिक बह जाने के कारण हमले के करीब छह घंटे बाद अस्पताल में उन्होंने दम तोड़ दिया। शिंजो का हत्यारा जापान के नेशनल डिफेंस फोर्स का पूर्व सैनिक है। मौके पर मौजूद सुरक्षाकर्मियों ने तुरंत उसपर काबू पा लिया। पुलिस ने उसके घर पर छापा मारा जहां से हैंडमेड पिस्टल और अन्य विस्फोटक भी बरामद किए गए।

शिंजो आबे की मौत के बाद प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने शनिवार को भारत में राष्ट्रीय शोक दिवस का ऐलान किया। मोदी ने कहा, ‘शिंजो आबे के निधन से दुनिया ने एक महान दूरदर्शी खो दिया है, और मैंने एक प्रिय मित्र खो दिया।‘ उन्होंने कहा, आबे भारत-जापान मित्रता के महान समर्थक थे।

‘माई फ्रेंड, आबे सैन’ शीर्षक वाले ब्लॉग में मोदी ने आबे को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की और लिखा-‘हमलोगों के लिए उनके सबसे महान उपहारों और उनकी सबसे स्थायी विरासत में से एक, जिसके लिए दुनिया हमेशा उनकी ऋणी रहेगी, वह है बदलते समय के साथ चुनौतियों को पहचानने की उनकी दूरदर्शिता और इसका सामना करने के लिए उनका जबरदस्त नेतृत्व।

‘वे भारत के साथ सिविल न्यूक्लियर एग्रीमेंट को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए दृढ़ थे जबकि उनके देश के लिए यह काफी मुश्किल काम था। भारत में हाईस्पीड रेल के लिए हुए समझौते को बेहद उदार रखने में भी उन्होंने निर्णायक भूमिका निभाई।’

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने लिखा- ‘चाहे Quad हो या ASEAN के नेतृत्व वाला मंच, इंडो पेसिफिक ओशन्स इनिशिएटिव हो या फिर एशिया-अफ्रीका ग्रोथ कॉरिडोर या Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, उनके योगदान से इन सभी संगठनों को लाभ पहुंचा है।’

इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि आबे की अनुपस्थिति दुनिया भर के राजनीतिक समीकरणों को प्रभावित करेगी, क्योंकि उन्होंने दुनिया में शक्ति संतुलन को फिर से परिभाषित करने के लिए कड़ी मेहनत की थी। आबे का निधन निश्चित रूप से भारत के लिए एक झटका होगा। पीएम मोदी के साथ आबे की मजबूत व्यक्तिगत बॉन्डिंग थी। उन्होंने इसका जिक्र भी किया था कि मोदी के प्रधानमंत्री बनने से वर्षों पहले ही वे कैसे दोस्त बन गए थे।

मोदी ने अपने ब्लॉग में लिखा, ‘आबे सान के साथ हर मुलाकात मेरे लिए बहुत ज्ञानवर्धक, बहुत ही उत्साहित करने वाला होता था। वह हमेशा नए विचारों से भरे रहते थे। शासन, अर्थव्यवस्था, संस्कृति, विदेश नीति और अन्य मुद्दों पर वे गहरी समझ रखते थे। उनकी बातों ने मुझे गुजरात के आर्थिक विकास को लेकर नई सोच के लिए प्रेरित किया। इतना ही नहीं, उनके सतत सहयोग से गुजरात और जापान के बीच वाइब्रेंट पार्टनरशिप के निर्माण को बड़ी ताकत मिली।

पिछले 90 वर्षों में जापान में इस तरह की कोई राजनीतिक हत्या नहीं हुई थी। इससे पहले 1932 में तख्तापलट की कोशिश के दौरान जापान के प्रधानमंत्री की हत्या कर दी गई थी।

शिंजो आबे ने जापान द्वारा दिए गए सॉफ्ट लोन के तहत भारत में बुलेट ट्रेन परियोजना शुरू करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी। उन्होंने चार बार भारत का दौरा किया और दो बार भारतीय संसद को संबोधित किया। उन्होंने इंडो-पैसिफिक पहल की नींव रखी और उन्हें 2021 में भारत सरकार ने पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित किया।

मोदी और शिंजो आबे में काफी समानताएं हैं। एक समानता यह भी है कि दोनों नेताओं को अपने देश के संस्कृति, विरासत और प्राचीन परंपराओं पर गर्व और विश्वास है। मोदी जब प्रधानमंत्री बनने के बाद जापान गए थे तो उन्होंने काशी को क्योटो की तरह बनाने की बात कही थी और शिंजो आबे ने इस काम में मदद का वादा किया था। शिंजो आबे दिसंबर 2015 में भारत के दौरे पर आए तो उन्होंने मोदी के साथ वाराणसी की घाटों का दौरा किया। उन्होंने दशाश्वमेध घाट पर गंगा आरती में भी हिस्सा लिया। वाराणसी में जापान के सहयोग से चल रही परियोजनाओं का जायजा लिया। वाराणसी में रूद्राक्ष कन्वैन्सन सेंटर जापान की मदद से ही बना है।

शिंजो आबे के 2015 के भारत दौरे ने भारत और जापान के रिश्तों की मज़बूती की नींव रखी। इसे अगले स्तर पर ले जाने और स्ट्रैटेजिक पार्टनरशिप बनाने का रास्ता खोला। 2016 में जब नरेंद्र मोदी जापान के दौरे पर गए तो दोनों देशों के बीच सिविल न्यूक्लियर डील हुई। हमें यह याद रखना चाहिए कि दुनिया में परमाणु हमले को भुगतने वाले इकलौते देश के तौर पर जापान सख़्ती से एटमी हथियारों का विरोध करता रहा है लेकिन शिंजो आबे ने पुरानी बातों को दरकिनार करते हुए भारत के साथ परमाणु समझौता किया। यह उनकी और मोदी की दोस्ती का ही नतीजा था। जापान ने भारत को एक जिम्मेदार परमाणु शक्ति के रूप में मान्यता दी।

शिंजो आबे और मोदी की दोस्ती की गर्मजोशी वर्ष 2017 में उस वक़्त देखने को मिली जब शिंजो आबे चौथी बार भारत के दौरे पर आए। तब पीएम मोदी उन्हें गुजरात ले गए और दोनों नेताओं ने रोड शो किया। यह पहला मौका था जब कोई विदेशी नेता, भारत में रोड शो कर रहा था। दोनों नेता अहमदाबाद की मशहूर सिद्दी सैय्यद मस्जिद देखने गए। इसके बाद उन्होंने अहमदाबाद में साबरमती रिवरफ्रंट पर कुछ वक़्त बिताया था।

शिंजो आबे को यकीन था कि इक्कीसवीं सदी में भारत दुनिया की बड़ी ताकत होगा। 2007 में भारत की संसद को संबोधित करते हुए आबे ने कहा था कि जापान और भारत की दोस्ती, दो महासागरों यानी हिंद और प्रशांत महासागरों का मेल है। शिंजो आबे के दिसंबर 2015 के भारत दौरे पर पीएम मोदी और आबे के बीच भारत में जापान की मदद से बुलेट ट्रेन प्रोजेक्ट आगे बढ़ाने पर सहमति बनी। जापान ने एक लाख करोड़ से ज्यादा के इस प्रोजेक्ट के लिए भारत को बेहद रियायती रेट पर लोन दिया। उम्मीद है कि भारत में पहली बुलेट ट्रेन 2026 तक शुरू हो जाएगी।

शिंजो आबे ने बहुत पहले ही चीन का ख़तरा भांप लिया था। उन्होंने 2006 में प्रधानमंत्री बनने के बाद चीन के बढ़ते प्रभाव को बैलेंस करने के लिए चार देशों जापान, अमेरिका, भारत, और ऑस्ट्रेलिया को मिलाकर QUAD गठबंधन की वकालत की थी। हालांकि, उस समय मनमोहन सिंह की अगुवाई वाली यूपीए सरकार ने शिंजो आबे के इस आइडिया में कोई ख़ास दिलचस्पी नहीं दिखाई थी।

चीन के राष्ट्रवादियों ने सोशल मीडिया पर शिंजो आबे की हत्या का जश्न मनाया। वहां के स्टेट मीडिया कहा कि आबे की नीतियों के प्रति जापानी लोगों में बहुत नाराजगी थी। दरअसल, चीन प्रशांत क्षेत्र में अपना दबदबा बढ़ा रहा था। जापान के सेनकाकू द्वीप पर चीन भी दावा करता रहा है। चीन से बढ़ते ख़तरों के बाद भी, जापान का कोई भी नेता संविधान के दायरे से बाहर जाकर जापान की सेना को ताक़तवर बनाने को तैयार नहीं था। लेकिन शिंजो आबे ने प्रधानमंत्री बनते ही संविधान को दरकिनार करके जापान की डिफेंस फोर्सेज़ को बैलिस्टिक मिसाइलों, लड़ाकू विमानों और जंगी जहाज़ से लैस करने का फैसला किया। चीन की बढ़ती ताकत को बैलेंस करने के लिए ही शिंजो आबे ने भारत, जापान, अमेरिका और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बीच QUAD गठबंधन का आइडिया दिया। शिंजो आबे मानते थे कि चीन से पूरी दुनिया को ख़तरा है इसलिए, जापान को भी अपनी ताक़त बढ़ानी चाहिए।
इसमें कोई दो राय नहीं कि शिंजो आबे के निधन से भारत ने अपने एक शुभचिंतक को और नरेंद्र मोदी ने अपने दोस्त को खो दिया। दुनिया ने एक बेहतरीन नेता को खो दिया। शिंजो आबे की बड़ी राजनीतिक विरासत थी। उनके दादा भी जापान के प्रधानमंत्री थे। उनके पिता जापान के वित्त मंत्री रह चुके थे। शिंजो आबे जापान के सबसे कम उम्र के प्रधानमंत्री थे। वो चार बार जापान के प्रधानमंत्री बने। दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के बाद पैदा होने वाले वे जापान के पहले प्रधानमंत्री थे। भारत के साथ रिश्ते की बात करें तो गणतन्त्र दिवस की परेड में शामिल होने वाले वे जापान के पहले प्रधानमंत्री थे। भारत के दूसरे सबसे बड़े नागरिक सम्मान पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित जापान के अकेले प्रधानमंत्री हैं। शिंजो आबे को भारत से प्यार था इसलिए उन्होंने देश के विकास की प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी परियोजनाओं का जमकर समर्थन किया।

भारत में बुलेट ट्रेन, दिल्ली मेट्रो, करीब डेढ़ हज़ार किलोमीटर लंबे दिल्ली-मुंबई इंडस्ट्रियल कॉरिडोर प्रोजेक्ट, काशी विश्वनाथ प्रोजेक्ट, नॉर्थ ईस्ट के विकास की परियोजनाएं और स्मार्ट सिटीज बनाने के प्रोजेक्ट, ये सब जापान की मदद से चल रहे हैं। यह मदद शिंजो आबे और नरेन्द्र मोदी की पर्सनल कैमिस्ट्री का नतीजा है। शिंजो आबे ने जापान में राजनीतिक स्थिरता दी। वह जापान के ज्यादा लंबे समय तक प्रधानमंत्री रहे। सबसे ज्यादा बार भारत की यात्रा करने वाले जापान के एकमात्र प्रधानमंत्री भी हैं। करीब नौ साल के कार्यकाल में शिंजो आबे चार बार भारत आए। इसीलिए प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने शिंजो आबे के निधन पर कहा कि दुनिया ने एक बेहतरीन इंसान और भारत ने शुभचिंतक और उन्होंने अपना एक अच्छा दोस्त खो दिया।

India has lost a great friend with the passing away of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Abe was assassinated in the former Japanese capital city of Nara on Saturday while he was campaigning near a railway station. Normally political assassinations do not place in a country like Japan, and when news came of the attack, the entire world was stunned.

The assassin stood metres behind Abe, took aim with his hand-made gun, made of two pipes and a board, and two bullets hit the Japanese leader on his neck and chest. Abe passed away six hours after the attack due to huge blood loss. The assassin, a former serviceman of National Defense Force, was soon overpowered. He admitted that he had come to kill Abe. Police raided his home where they found an arsenal of hand-made pistols and explosives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a day of national mourning in India on Saturday. Modi said, “In the passing away of Shinzo Abe, the world has lost a great visionary, and I have lost a dear friend.” He said, Abe was a great champion of India-Japan friendship.

In a blog titled ‘My Friend, Abe San’, Modi paid tributes to Abe, and wrote: “Among his greatest gifts to us and his most enduring legacy and one for which the world will always be indebted, is his foresight in recognising the changing tides and gathering storm of our times and his leadership in responding to it….”

“He was resolute in pursuing the civil nuclear agreement with India – a most difficult one for his country – and decisive in offering the most generous terms for the High Speed Rail in India. …”

“..The Quad, the Asean-led forums, the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative, the Asia-Africa Growth Corridor, and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, all beneited from his contributions”, wrote Prime Minister Modi.

There is no doubt that Abe’s absence will affect political equations across the world, because it was he who tried hard to re-deine the power balance in the world. For India, Abe’s exit will surely be a setback. Abe had a strong personal bond with Narendra Modi, and the latter mentioned how they became friends over the years, even before Modi became prime minister.

“Every meeting with Abe San was intellectually stimulating”, wrote Modi in his blog. “He was always full of new ideas and invaluable insights on governance, economy, culture, foreign policy and various other objects…His counsel inspired me in my economic choices for Gujarat. And his support was instrumental in building Gujarat’s vibrant partnership with Japan.”

The last time, a Japanese Prime Minister was killed way back in 1932, and that too, in course of a coup attempt. In the last 90 years, there had been no political assassination in Japan on this scale.

Abe was instrumental in launching the Bullet Train project in India under a soft loan given by Japan. He visited India four times and addressed Indian Parliament twice. He laid the foundation of Indo-Pacific initiative, and was honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 2021.

There are striking similarities between Modi and Abe. Both the statesmen had immense pride in their respective culture, heritage and ancient traditions. When Modi visited Japan after becoming PM, the plan to develop Kashi on the lines of Kyoto was launched. Abe visited the ghats of Varanasi when he visited India in December, 2015. With Modi sitting by his side, Abe witnessed the famous Ganga Aarti at Dashshwamedh Ghat. The famous Rudraksha Convention Centre at Kashi Vishwanath has been made with Japanese assistance.

Abe laid the foundation of India-Japan strategic partnership during his India visit in 201. The next year, Modi concluded the civil nuclear deal during his Japan visit. Remember, it has been the tradition in Japan’s foreign policy to oppose nuclear weapons, because Japan is the only country in the world that has suffered from two atomic bombs. It was Abe, who putting aside old ideas, wanted a nuclear deal with India and recognized India as a responsible nuclear power.

The friendship between Abe and Modi was evident in 2017, when the Japanese PM along with Modi took part in a road show in Gujarat. This was the first time a foreign leader took part in a road show in India. Both the leaders visited the famous Sidi Sayyed mosque in Ahmedabad, and spent time at the Sabaramati river front.

Abe knew India was destined to become a world power in the coming years. In his 2007 speech to the Indian Parliament, Abe described India-Japan friendship as a “confluence of the two seas”. In December 2015, Modi and Abe agreed on the launch of a bullet train project in India, being built at a cost of Rs one lakh crore, with soft loan from Japan. The Bullet Train is expected to run in India in 2026.

It was Shinzo Abe, who, in order to counter growing Chinese influence, proposed the setting up of Quad – a four-nation initiative between the US, Australia, India and Japan. The previous UPA government of Dr Manmohan Singh had not shown much keenness on this initiative.

Chinese nationalists ‘celebrated’ Abe’s assassination on social media with one of the state media saying that there was much resentment among the Japanese people towards Abe’s policies. With China showing its clout in the Pacific region, Abe decided on setting up the Quad to counter Chinese influence. China had been claiming Senkoku islands which belong to Japan. It was Abe as prime minister, who despite the post-Second World War deal with the US not to arm its military, decided to provide ballistic missiles, jet fighters and naval ships to the Japanese Defense Force. Abe had realized the threats from China and was keeping his nation ready to counter all challenges.

With Abe’s passing away, India has lost one of its well-wishers, Modi has lost a friend and the world has lost a great statesman. Shinzo Abe came from a political family. His grandpa was the prime minister of Japan and his father was the finance minister. Shinzo was Japan’s youngest prime minister and he took over as PM four times. Shinzo Abe loved India and Indians, and he provided full support to Narendra Modi’s ideas for making a New India.

The bullet rain project, Delhi Metro, nearly 1,500 km long Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project, Kashi Vishwanath project, North-east development projects, Smart Cities plan were being funded by Japan. This was due to the personal chemistry between Modi and Abe. Abe gave political stability to Japan and he was the longest serving PM of his country. He was the only Japanese PM to visit India four times during his official tenure spanning nine years. It was because of this deep personal bonding that Modi said, he has lost a true friend, India has lost a well-wisher and the world has lost a great statesman.

उदयपुर में दर्जी कन्हैयालाल की बर्बरतापूर्ण हत्या और अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह के 2 खादिमों के सिर कलम करने की धमकी के वीडियो वायरल होने का असर दिखने लगा है। राजस्थान में अब आम लोगों को भी सिर कलम करने की धमकियां दी जा रही है। ज्यादातर धमकियां सोशल मीडिया के जरिए दी जा रही हैं।

भरतपुर में 6 जुलाई को दो अज्ञात लोगों ने एक ऐम्बुलेंस ड्राइवर मुकेश कुमार को रोका, चिट्ठी फेंकी और खंजर दिखाते हुए धमकाया कि अगर पुलिस को खबर दी तो अंजाम बुरा होगा।

चिट्ठी में लिखा था: ‘यदि तुम लोग कन्हैयालाल और नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करते रहे, तो 10 दिनों के भीतर तुम्हारा सिर कलम कर दिया जाएगा।’ भरतपुर के कैथवाड़ा थाने के SHO शिव लहरी ने बताया कि चिट्ठी में दो लोगों – किराने की दुकान चलाने वाले सतीश चंद और सरकारी स्कूल के शिक्षक प्रमोद – के नाम थे और ‘सिर तन से जुदा’ लिखा था। पुलिस ने कहा कि दोनों लोगों को सुरक्षा प्रदान की गई है। सतीश चंद के बेटे मोहित खंडेलवाल ने कहा कि उनके पिता सोशल मीडिया पर नहीं हैं और न ही उन्होंने कोई पोस्ट शेयर की थी।

कई लोगों को इसी तरह जान से मारने की धमकी उदयपुर, जोधपुर और राजस्थान के कुछ अन्य इलाकों में भी मिली है। उदयपुर में सिर कलम करने के वाकये के बाद राजस्थान पुलिस ने इन धमकियों को गंभीरता से लेना शुरू कर दिया है।

गुरुवार को उदयपुर में पुलिस ने सुंदरवास इलाके में एक युवक को धमकी देने के आरोप में 4 लोगों अब्दुल बारी, गुफरान हुसैन, शाहिद नवाज खान और शोएब जिलानी को गिरफ्तार कर लिया। युवक ने नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करते हुए सोशल मीडिया पर कॉमेंट किया था। उसकी शिकायत मिलने पर पुलिस ने चारों लोगों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया।

ये शरारती तत्व हैं जो जान से मारने की धमकी देकर आम लोगों के दिलों में खौफ पैदा करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। कानून का पालन करने वाले नागरिकों को डरने की जरूरत नहीं है। ऐसी धमकियां मिलने पर तुरंत पुलिस को सूचना दें। और पुलिस को भी जल्द से जल्द कार्रवाई करने के लिए कहा जाना चाहिए।

कन्हैयालाल ने पुलिस को धमकी मिलने की जानकारी दी थी, सुरक्षा की मांग की थी लेकिन पुलिस ने उसकी बात नहीं सुनी और उसकी जान चली गई। इसीलिए लोगों को भरोसा टूटा है. उम्मीद है कि राजस्थान पुलिस अब ऐसी गलती नहीं दोहराएगी। ‘नफरत और मौत के सौदागर’ ऐक्टिव हो गए हैं और पुलिस को ऐसी गतिविधियों पर कड़ी नजर रखनी चाहिए।

हालात इस हद तक पहुंच गए हैं कि नफरत का जहर फैलाने के लिए पुराने वीडियो वायरल किए जा रहे हैं। कुछ वीडियो में लोग गला काटने की बात कह रहे हैं, कोई जीभ काटने वाले को इनाम देने का ऐलान कर रहा है। कुछ लोग इस माहौल का इस्तेमाल अपनी पुरानी रंजिश का हिसाब बराबर करने के लिए कर रहे हैं।

मेरे पास ऐसे कई नफरत भरे वीडियो हैं, जिनमें से ज्यादातर पुराने या झूठे हैं। कोई भी झूठा वीडियो, कोई अफवाह चिंगारी का काम कर सकती है। सभी को बहुत सतर्क रहना होगा क्योंकि इनमें से कुछ वीडियो आपके फोन तक भी पहुंच सकते हैं।

मिसाल के तौर पर गुरुवार को हरियाणा के मेवात का एक वीडियो वायरल हुआ जिसका राज्य सरकार ने तुरंत संज्ञान लिया। वीडियो में दिखाई दे रहा है कि कई मुसलमान प्रदर्शन कर रहे हैं, भड़काऊ नारे लगा रहे हैं और इरशाद नाम का एक शख्स नूपुर शर्मा की जुबान काटने वाले को 2 करोड़ रुपये का इनाम देने की बात कर रहा है। जांच करने पर पता चला कि वीडियो 12 जून को हरियाणा के मेवात में एक रैली का है। स्थानीय पुलिस ने कहा कि रैली बगैर इजाजत के निकाली गई थी और पुलिस अब इस बात की जांच कर रही है कि वीडियो किसने बनाया था।

उत्तर प्रदेश के बरेली में एक वीडियो सामने आया जिसमें नासिर नाम का शख्स किसी से झगड़ रहा है और कह रहा है कि अगर नूपुर शर्मा उसके सामने आ जाएगी तो वह उसका गला काट देगा, और जो उसका साथ देगा वह उसकी भी जान ले लेगा। पुलिस ने कुछ ही घंटों के भीतर नासिर को गिरफ्तार कर लिया।

उत्तर प्रदेश के मुरादाबाद में एक युवक को धमकी देने के मामले में पुलिस ने तीन लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया है। मुरादाबाद के ठाकुरद्वारा इलाके में रहने वाले एक शख्स ने नूपुर शर्मा के समर्थन में वॉट्सऐप स्टेटस लगाया था, जिसके बाद से उसे धमकियां मिलनी शुरू हो गईं। धमकी देने वाले कह रहे थे कि नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने पर जो हाल उदयपुर के कन्हैयालाल का हुआ, वैसा ही तुम्हारे साथ करेंगे। युवक की शिकायत के बाद पुलिस ने शाहनवाज आलम, दानिश नाम के 2 युवकों, और एक जुवेनाइल को गिरफ्तार किया है। पुलिस को एक ऑडियो क्लिप भी मिली है, जिसमें ये लोग धमकी देते हुए सुनाई दे रहे हैं।

मुंबई के गिरगांव इलाके में 16 साल की एक लड़की को जान से मारने की धमकी दी गई। इस लड़की का कसूर सिर्फ इतना है कि उसने कन्हैयालाल की निर्मम हत्या के 3 दिन बाद 1 जुलाई को फेसबुक पर एक वीडियो पोस्ट किया। वीडियो में उसने कन्हैयालाल की हत्या को भविष्य के लिए एक बड़ी चुनौती बताया।

इस लड़की ने वीडियो में न तो नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन किया और न ही किसी धर्म के खिलाफ कुछ कहा। उसने केवल इतना कहा, ‘अगर कन्हैयालाल की हत्या आपको नींद से नहीं जगाती, तो अगली बारी आपकी भी हो सकती है।’ इसके तुरंत बाद एक अज्ञात शख्स ने उसे वॉट्सऐप नंबर पर कॉल किया और जान से मारने की धमकी दी। लड़की ने वीपी रोड पुलिस स्टेशन में शिकायत दर्ज कराई और पुलिस अब उस शख्स की तलाश कर रही है।

आप में से कई लोग सोच रहे होंगे कि 16 साल की लड़की को मजहब और सियासत वगैरह के चक्कर में पड़ने की क्या जरूरत है। लेकिन इसे इस तरह भी देखा जा सकता है कि कन्हैयालाल की जिस खौफनाक तरीके से हत्या की गई, उससे ऐसा माहौल बन गया कि अब छोटे बच्चे भी इन सब चीजों पर चर्चा करने लगे हैं। दुख की बात यह है हम किसी आदर्श समाज में नहीं रह रहे, क्योंकि कन्हैयालाल के मामले में जो सबसे खतरनाक बात हुई वह यह थी कि कातिलों ने पहले धमकी दी, फिर कत्ल की वारदात को अंजाम दिया, फिर सबकुछ कैमरे पर रिकॉर्ड किया ताकि वीडियो को सोशल मीडिया पर फैलाया जा सके और ज्यादा से ज्यादा लोग इसे देख सकें।

धमकी और बेरहमी से सिर कलम करने का वीडियो तमाम लोगों तक पहुंचा और इसका नतीजा यह हुआ कि हर शख्स ने इस घटना पर अपने-अपने तरीके से प्रतिक्रिया दी। मुंबई की 16 साल की लड़की ने भी इस वारदात पर वीडियो बनाकर उसे फेसबुक पर अपलोड कर दिया। उसने एक जुलाई को यह वीडियो अपलोड किया और 2 जुलाई को 3 वॉट्सऐप नंबर से उसे फोन आए। तीनों फोन कॉल्स में उसे जान से मारने की धमकी दी गई, जिसके बाद पुलिस में केस दर्ज किया गया। मुंबई पुलिस ने एक सहायक पुलिस इसंपेक्टर समेत 3 पुलिसवालों को इस लड़की और उसके परिवार वालों की सुरक्षा में तैनात किया है।

ऐसे भी लोग हैं जो बदला लेने के लिए दूसरों को फंसाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। उत्तर प्रदेश के गाजियाबाद में स्थित लोनी इलाके में परवेज नाम के शख्स ने अपने पड़ोसी सदर खान को फंसाने के लिए एक कारोबारी को धमकी भरा खत लिखकर कहा था कि नूपुर शर्मा का सपोर्ट करने की वजह से उसका हाल भी कन्हैयालाल जैसा होगा। पुलिस ने छानबीन की तो पता चला कि चिट्ठी सदर खान ने नहीं बल्कि उसके पड़ोसी परवेज ने भेजी थी। पुलिस ने फौरन परवेज को गिरफ्तार कर लिया।

सिर कलम करने और फिर लगातार धमकाए जाने की खबरें आने के बाद जो तनावपूर्ण हालात पैदा हुए हैं, उनका अंदाजा सहज ही लगाया जा सकता है। राजस्थान के करौली में स्थित भूडारा बाजार में गुरुवार को 2 युवकों के बीच झगड़ा हो गया और देखते ही देखते दंगे की अफवाह फैल गई। इसके साथ ही दुकानों के शटर गिरने लगे, जिन लोगों के बच्चे स्कूल गए थे, वे उन्हें घर लाने के लिए भागे। झगड़े के दौरान दोनों ही गुटों के लोगों ने एक दूसरे पर धारदार हथियारों से हमला किया, और दंगे होने की अफवाह पूरे शहर में फैल गई।

अफवाह फैलाने, आपत्तिजनक वीडियो फॉरवर्ड करने और जान से मारने की धमकी देने जैसी घटनाओं ने ऐसे हालात पैदा कर दिए हैं कि ऐसी विरोधी ताकतें समाज को बांटने में कामयाब हो सकती हैं। याद रखें, ये लोग इस देश को 14वीं सदी के बर्बर युग में वापस ले जाने के लिए 21वीं सदी के डिजिटल साधनों का इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं।

आप हिंदू हों या मुसलमान, दोनों को ऐसा करने वाले लोगों को पहचानने की जरूरत है, समाज के सामने उन्हें एक्सपोज करने की जरूरत है। कोई भी मैसेज, कोई भी वीडियो फॉरवर्ड करने से पहले यह सोचें कि इसके पीछे भेजने वाले की नीयत क्या है। आप सोचें कि जिसने वीडियो बनाया उसकी मंशा क्या है। अगर सबलोग सावधान रहेंगे तो कुछ सिरफिरे मजहब का, धार्मिक भावनाओं का बेजा इस्तेमाल नहीं कर पाएंगे।

The brutal beheading of tailor Kanhaiyalal in Udaipur and the beheading threat videos circulated by two ‘khadims’ of Ajmer Sharif shrine has resulted in a bandwagon effect. Threats of beheading are now being given to commoners in Rajasthan, mostly through social media.

In Bharatpur, two unknown persons on July 6 stopped an ambulance driver Mukesh Kumar, threw a handwritten note at him and showed him a dagger while threatening him with consequences if he reported to the police.

On the note was written: “If you carry on supporting Kanhaiyalal and Nupur Sharma, you will be beheaded within 10 days.” On the note was written ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ (beheading) addressed to two persons, Satish Chand, a grocer, and Pramod, a government school teacher, said Shiv Lahri, SHO of Kaithwada police station, Bharatpur. Police said, security has been provided to both the persons. Satish Chand’s son Mohit Khandelwal said, his father was not on social media, nor had he shared any post.

Similar death threats have been received by several persons in Udaipur, Jodhpur and some other places of Rajasthan. After the brutal beheading in Udaipur, Rajasthan police has started taking serious note of these threats.

On Thursday, police in Udaipur arrested four persons, Abdul Bari, Gufran Husain, Shahid Nawaz Khan and Shoaib Jilani, on charge of threatening a youth in Sundarwas locality, who had posted his comments on social media supporting Nupur Sharma. On receiving his complaint, police arrested the four persons.

These are mischievous and anti-social elements trying to strike terror in the hearts of common people by giving death threats. There is no need for law abiding citizens to fear. They should immediately report to the police when they get such threats. And police should be told to respond quickly.

In Kanhaiylal’s case, he had complained to police about the threats, but police did not act in time and he lost his life. Police shouldput it’s act together before people start losing confidence in the state police. The ‘merchants of hate and death’ are active and police must keep a close watch on such activity.

The situation has come to an extent where old videos are being brought out and made viral to spread the poison of hate. Some videos show people giving call to cut off the tongue or head, and offering rewards. Some people try to settle personal scores.

I have several such hate videos with me, most of which are either old or fake or based on hearsay or rumour, and a small spark can cause fire. Everyone has to be very careful because some of these videos might land in your cellphones.

For example on Thursday, a video from Mewat, Haryana, became viral, and the state government immediately took notice. The video shows several Muslims staging protest, shouting inflammatory slogans, and a man named Irshad offering to give Rs 2 crore to anybody who will cut off Nupur Sharma’s tongue. On checking, it was found that the video was made on June 12 at a rally in Mewat, Haryana. Local police said the rally was taken out without permission, and police is now investigating the origin of this video.

In Bareilly, UP, a video surfaced in which a man named Nasir was quarrelling with somebody and saying, he would behead Nupur Sharma, and kill those who are supporting her. Police immediately arrested Nasir within a few hours.

In Moradabad, UP, police have arrested three persons for threatening a supporter of Nupur Sharma by saying that they would do the same act that was done against Kanhaiyalal in Udaipur. After he complained to police, three persons, Shahnawaz Alam, Danish and a juvenile, were arrested. Police have found an audio clip in which these persons were giving threats.

In Mumbai’s Girgaum locality, a 16-year-old girl received death threats when she posted her video on Facebook on July 1, three days after the brutal beheading of Kanhaiyalal. In the video she described the beheading as a big challenge for future.

In the video, she neither supported Nupur Sharma, nor did she make any comment against any religion. She only said, “if Kanhaiyalal’s murder does not wake you up, then your turn could be the next.” Soon afterwards, an unidentified person called her up on WhatsApp number and threatened to kill her. The girl filed a complaint at V P Road police station, and the police is now on the lookout of that person.

It is a good question that why should a teenage girl talk about religion and politics. But the brutal manner in which Kanhaiyalal was beheaded, has become a talking point even among teenagers. Unfortunately, we do not live in an ideal society, particularly so, because in Kanhaiylal’s case, the killers gave him threat, carried out the brutal act, and then recorded everything on camera in order to circulate it on social media, so that it can reach the largest number of viewers.

What happened subsequently was inevitable. The video of threats and brutal beheading reached the cellphones of maximum number of people, and each one of them reacted in one’s own manner. The 16-year-old Mumbai girl posted her video on Facebook on July 1, and the next day, on July 2, she got three phone calls on her WhatsApp number, in which the person threatened to kill her. Mumbai Police has deployed an assistant police inspector and two constables to protect the girl and her family members.

There are people who try to settle personal scores too. In Ghaziabad, UP, a man named Parvez, in order to trap his neighbour, Sadar Khan, in Loni area, sent a letter of threat to a businessman, saying he would meet the fate of Kanhaiyalal for supporting Nupur Sharma. When police investigated, it was found that the letter was not written by Sadar Khan, but his neighbour, Parvez. Police promptly arrested him.

One can well imagine the tense situation that has been created after the beheading and subsequent threats. On Thursday, in Karauli, Rajasthan, there was a quarrel between two youths in Bhudara Bazar locality, and soon, rumours spread about a riot. Most of the shopkeepers downed their shutters, and residents brought their children home from school. During the quarrel, weapons were used from both sides, but rumours were circulated about a big riot taking place.

Rumour mongering, forwarding objectionable videos and giving death threats, have brought about a situation where such inimical forces can create a divide in our society. Remember, people are using 21st century digital means to take this country back to the Middle Age of 14th century.

Whether you are a Hindu or a Muslim, you must identify such people, and expose them in society. While forwarding any objectionable message on social media, think several times about the intent of the person who had sent it to you. Think about the intent of the person who has created an objectionable video. If all of us remain vigilant, then a handful of religious zealots and fanatics cannot harm society by misusing religious sentiments.

राजस्थान पुलिस ने गुरुवार को अजमेर के सर्किल ऑफिसर संदीप सारस्वत को हटा दिया। उन्हें अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह के एक खादिम सलमान चिश्ती को सलाह देते हुए देखा गया था। सलमान चिश्ती ने नुपुर शर्मा का सिर कलम करने वाले को अपना घर इनाम में देने की बात कही थी। कार्यवाहक डीजीपी उमेश मिश्रा ने कहा कि सारस्वत के खिलाफ जांच के आदेश दे दिए गए हैं और उन्हें एपीओ (पदस्थापन की प्रतीक्षा में) पर रखा गया है।

डीएसपी रैंक के सर्किल ऑफिसर संदीप सारस्वत राजस्थान पुलिस सेवा के अधिकारी हैं और उनके खिलाफ विजिलेंस ब्रांच जांच करेगी। बुधवार की रात इंडिया टीवी पर प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने दिखाया था कि कैसे थाने ले जाते समय, सीओ सलमान चिश्ती को ये कहने के लिए सिखा रहे थे – ‘बोल देना, नशे में था’ । सलमान चिश्ती ने पैगंबर मोहम्मद के खिलाफ टिप्पणी करने वाली नूपुर शर्मा का सिर कलम करने वाले शख्स को अपना मकान देने का ऐलान किया था।

एक स्थानीय बीजेपी विधायक वासुदेव देवनानी ने फेसबुक पर वीडियो क्लिप शेयर किया और कहा, ‘यह राजस्थान सरकार की तुष्टिकरण नीति की पराकाष्ठा है।’

राजस्थान का एक पुलिस अधिकारी सलमान चिश्ती जैसे ‘हिस्ट्री शीटर’ को सिखाने की कोशिश कर रहा था, इस वीडियो को देखकर सभी हैरान हैं। इससे साफ इशारा मिलता है कि कैसे राजस्थान पुलिस के कुछ अफसर अपराधियों के प्रति हमदर्दी दिखा रहे हैं और उस व्यक्ति को बचाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं जिसने नूपुर शर्मा का सिर कलम करने वाले को अपना मकान देने की बात कही है।

जब एक पुलिस अधिकारी ही एक अपराधी को झूठ बोलने के लिए कहेगा तो लोग इंसाफ की उम्मीद कैसे कर सकते हैं? वीडियो में एक और चौंकाने वाली बात यह थी कि सलमान चिश्ती पुलिस अधिकारी से कह रहा था कि वह कभी शराब नहीं पीता।

वीडियो में कुछ इस तरह से बातचीत हो रही है। पुलिस वाला चिश्ती से कहता है: ‘आओ, आओ, नशे में तो नहीं हो? अरे साथ में ही हैं, आ जा। चलो, चलो, आ जाओ, बेफिक्र रहो। इधर आ जाओ।’ पुलिसकर्मी (फिर से): ‘कौन सा नशा कर रखा था वीडियो बनाते टाइम?’ सलमान चिश्ती: ‘मैं नशा नहीं करता।’ पुलिसवाला: ‘बोल नशे में था ताकि बचाव हो जाए।’

यह वीडियो तब बनाया गया था जब पुलिस ने सलमान चिश्ती को खादिम मोहल्ला से रात में उनके घर से गिरफ्तार किया था। वीडियो में सलमान घबराया हुआ था, लेकिन उसके साथ मौजूद पुलिसकर्मी उसके प्रति हमदर्दी दिखा रहे थे। वीडियो में दिख रहा पुलिसकर्मी कोई साधारण कॉन्स्टेबल नहीं है, बल्कि अजमेर दरगाह शरीफ इलाके का सर्किल ऑफिसर है।

बुधवार को जब सलमान चिश्ती का ‘हेट वीडियो’ वायरल हुआ तो अजमेर पुलिस ने दावा किया था कि वह फरार है। सच तो यह है कि वह कहीं नहीं भागा था और अपने घर में ही था। बुधवार की रात पुलिस गई और आराम से उसे पकड़ लाई। जिस बातचीत का जिक्र मैंने ऊपर किया है, वह खादिम और सर्किल ऑफिसर के बीच हुई।

नूपुर शर्मा का सिर कलम करने के लिए इनाम देने का ऐलान करने वाले और दुनिया भर में भारत की बदनामी करवाने वाले शख्स को एक सीनियर पुलिस अफसर झूठ बोलना सिखा रहा था। वह भी तब जबकि आरोपी साफ-साफ कह रहा था कि उसने कभी शराब नहीं पी। इसका मतलब है कि जब उसने नूपुर शर्मा का सिर कलम करने वाले को इनाम देने की बात कहने वाला वीडियो बनाया तब वह होश में था। यह भी साफतौर पर इशारा करता है कि राजस्थान पुलिस यह साबित करने की कोशिश कर रही थी कि सलमान चिश्ती ने नशे की हालत में यह वीडियो बनाया था।

बुधवार को जब अजमेर के एडिश्नल एसपी विकास सांगवान से सलमान चिश्ती के वीडियो पर सवाल पूछे गए तो उन्होंने कहा था कि ऐसा लगता है कि उसने यह वीडियो नशे की हालत में बनाया है। ऐसा लगता है कि पुलिस पहले ही तय कर चुकी थी, इसीलिए CO ने सलमान चिश्ती के कान में बचने का फॉर्मूला बताया।

नशे को लेकर पुलिस की थ्योरी अब अजमेर दरगाह अंजुमन कमेटी के लोगों तक फैल गई है। जो पहले सलमान की वीडियो के कारण डिफेंसिव थे, अब यह कहकर मामले को हर्का कर रहेहैं कि सलमान चिश्ती ने नशे की हालत में ऐसा किया था, वह नशेड़ी है, ड्रग एडिक्ट है।

राजस्थान में बीजेपी ने अब इसे एक सियासी मुद्दा बना दिया है। अलवर से बीजेपी के सांसद महंत बालकनाथ ने आरोप लगाया कि राजस्थान की कांग्रेस सरकार द्वारा अपनाई गई तुष्टिकरण की नीति के कारण माहौल बिगड़ रहा है। महंत बालकनाथ ने आरोप लगाया कि मुख्यमंत्री अशोक गहलोत की सरकार मुस्लिम परस्त हो चुकी है और इससे सांप्रदायिक तनाव पैदा हो रहा है। बीजेपी के राज्यसभा सदस्य किरोड़ी लाल मीणा ने कहा कि एक छोटे स्तर का पुलिस अधिकारी किसी अपराधी को ऐसी सलाह तब तक नहीं दे सकता जब तक कि उसे ऊपर से ऑर्डर न मिला हो। उन्होंने इस वीडियो को राजस्थान सरकार की तुष्टीकरण नीति का सबसे बड़ा सबूत बताया।

बीजेपी के नेताओं की बातों को सियासी हमला कहा जा सकता है, लेकिन पुलिस ने जिस अंदाज में खादिम के बयान की स्क्रिप्ट लिखी, उससे साफ है कि उसे बचाने की कोशिश की जा रही है। यह राज्य सरकार की मुस्लिम तुष्टिकरण की नीति का नतीजा हो सकता है। पुलिस ने वक्त रहते धमकियों का संज्ञान लेकर ऐक्शन नहीं लिया, और वीडियो के वायरल होने तक इंतजार किया। यह उसकी लापरवाही का एक और सबूत है।

सबसे ज्यादा हैरानी की बात यह है कि ख्वाजा मोइनुद्दीन चिश्ती की दरगाह भाईचारे और अमन चैन का प्रतीक थी, लेकिन पिछले एक हफ्ते में यहां से नफरत फैलाने वाली बातें कही गईं। दरगाह के पास एक मीटिंग में हिंदुओं को सबक सिखाने की बात कही गई। यह सब काम आम मुसलमान नहीं कर रहे थे। इस तरह की हरकतें उन कुछ ‘खादिमों’ ने की जो दरगाह को चलाते हैं, उसका मैनेजमेंट देखते हैं।

अजमेर शरीफ की दरगाह में PFI और SDPI जैसे कट्टरपंथी संगठनों की गुप्त बैठकें होती है। अंजुमन कमेटी, जो कि दरगाह का मैनेजमेंट देखती है, के सचिव सरवर चिश्ती ने ऐसी ही एक बैठक बुलाई थी। मेरे पास इनमें से एक मीटिंग का वीडियो है। वीडियो में सरवर चिश्ती बीचों बीच बैठे दिख रहे हैं। उनके अगल बगल PFI के सेक्रेट्री मोहम्मद अनीस और SDPI के नेता मोहम्मद हाशमी दिख रहे हैं। बैठक में PFI और SDPI, दोनों के नेता सरवर चिश्ती की तारीफ करते सुनाई दे रहे हैं।

वीडियो में SDPI के नेता मोहम्मद हाशमी कहते सुनाई दे रहे हैं, ‘इन अमीर नवाजों को इन गरीब नवाजों के आसताने से हम मैसेज दे रहे हैं कि आप लोग अगर जुल्म करेंगे तो उससे पीछे दबने वाले नहीं हैं। जनाब सरवर चिश्ती साहब की आवाज पूरी दुनिया में सुनी जाती है। जुल्म के खिलाफ हमेशा एक अच्छा, सच्चा और एक ईमान वाला मुसलमान खड़ा होगा। वही लोग उनके साथ जाएंगे, जो लोग जुल्म को पसंद करते हैं। वे फासीवाद के दलाल हैं। हम पूरे देश को यह मैसेज देना चाहते हैं कि हम सभी PFI और SDPI के साथ हैं। सरवर चिश्ती समेत सभी धर्मनिरपेक्ष ताकतों की आवाज एक है।’

बुधवार की रात अपने शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने 7 फरवरी 2022 का एक पुराना वीडियो दिखाया, जिसमें सरवर चिश्ती कोटा में PFI के एक ‘यूनिटी मार्च’ रैली में हिस्सा लिया था। वहां उन्होंने एक भड़काऊ तकरीर भी की थी। अपनी तकरीर में सरवर चिश्ती ने कहा था, ‘हम मोदी से डरने वालों में नहीं हैं। हम मोदी से लड़ने वालों में हैं। हम PFI के साथ खड़े हैं।’ उस दौरान कर्नाटक में कुछ छात्राओं द्वारा हिजाब पहनने के मुद्दे को लेकर हंगामा मचा हुआ था। कोटा में इस रैली की इजाजत मुख्यमंत्री अशोक गहलोत की सरकार ने दी थी। बाद में कहा गया कि करौली में रामनवमी के जुलूस के दौरान जो हंगामा हुआ, उसमें कोटा में हुई इस रैली का भी अहम रोल था।

इंडिया टीवी के रिपोर्टर मनीष भट्टाचार्य ने अजमेर दरगाह के दीवान (आध्यात्मिक प्रमुख) सैयद ज़ैनुल आबेदीन से PFI की बैठकों के बारे में पूछा। उन्होंने सरवर चिश्ती का नाम तो नहीं लिया लेकिन इतना जरूर कहा कि PFI के लोग लंबे समय से दरगाह आते रहे हैं और यहां मीटिंग वगैरह करते रहे हैं।

जब दीवान से पूछा गया कि वह PFI के लोगों को दरगाह के अंदर मीटिंग करने से रोकते क्यों नहीं तो उन्होंने जवाब दिया कि उनके पास इस मामले में सीमित अधिकार हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इसे रोकने का काम दरगाह से जुड़े खादिमों के पास है और अंजुमन कमेटी का फैसला अंतिम होता है। दीवान ने कहा, ‘सलमान चिश्ती ने जिस तरह नूपुर शर्मा का गला काटने वाले को इनाम देने का वीडियो बनाया, वह ख्वाजा गरीब नवाज की शिक्षाओं के खिलाफ है। इस्लाम भी हिंसा की इजाजत नहीं देता। सलमान चिश्ती को कड़ी से कड़ी सजा मिलनी चाहिए, लेकिन इस बात की जांच भी होनी चाहिए कि आखिर इन लोगों को हिम्मत कहां से मिल रही है। सिर तन से जुदा करने वाले नारे कौन लोग फैला रहे हैं, कौन लोग ऐसे नारे लगवा रहे हैं?’

सरवर चिश्ती ने 17 जून को अंजुमन कमेटी का सचिव चुने जाने के दिन कहा था कि दरगाह के पास रैली निकालने वाले हिंदुओं से न तो सामान खरीदा जाए और न ही उन्हें सामान बेचा जाए। सरवर चिश्ती शायद इस बात से नाराज थे कि हिंदुओं ने नुपूर शर्मा के समर्थन में अजमेर में मौन जुलूस क्यों निकाला।

सरवर चिश्ती कोई बच्चे नहीं हैं जो इस बात से वाकिफ न हों कि PFI किस किस्म का संगठन है। उन्हें अच्छी तरह मालूम है कि PFI ने मुसलमानों को गुमराह करने का काम किया है, आधा सच बताकर उनकी भावनाओं को भड़काने का काम किया है। PFI से हाथ मिला कर वह अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह की उस महान विरासत को भूल गए जो प्रेम और भाईचारे का संदेश देती है

अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह पर पिछले 800 सालों से हिंदू और मुसलमान दोनों सिर झुकाते हैं। सरवर चिश्ती यह भी भूल गए कि दरगाह शरीफ में बैठकर नफरत की बात करना एक गुनाह है। अच्छी बात यह है कि इस दरगाह के अधिकांश खादिम नफरत में यकीन नहीं रखते हैं। वे PFI और सरवर चिश्ती की जहरीली विचारधारा का विरोध करते हैं।

Rajasthan Police on Thursday removed the Circle Officer, Sandeep Saraswat, who was seen allegedly tutoring a ‘khadim’ of Ajmer Sharif shrine, Salman Chishti, who had given a call to behead Nupur Sharma. An inquiry has been ordered against him and he has been put on APO (awaiting posting order), officiating DGP Umesh Mishra said.

The circle officer of DSP rank, Sandeep Saraswat, is an officer of Rajasthan Police Service, and the inquiry against him will be conducted by the vigilance branch. In our prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on India TV on Wednesday night, we showed how, while being taken to the police station, the circle officer was tutoring Salman Chishti to say, “Bol Dena, Nashe Me Tha” (tell them you were intoxicated). Salman Chishti had offered to gift his house to anyone who beheads Nupur Sharma for her controversial remark against Prophet Mohammad.

A local BJP MLA Vasudev Devnani shared the video clip on Facebook and said “this is the height of appeasement by the Rajasthan government’.

This video, in which a senior Rajasthan police officer is trying to tutor a ‘history sheeter’ like Salman Chishti, has surprised all. It clearly indicates how some officers in the state police are showing sympathy to criminals and are trying to shield the man who has given a call to behead Nupur Sharma.

How can people expect justice when a police officer tells a criminal what lie to tell? Another surprising point in the video was that Salman Chishti was telling the police officer that he never drinks alcohol.

This was how the conversation took place in the video. The policeman telling Chishti: “Come, are you drunk? Don’t worry, we are with you. Come here, Don’t worry, come here.” Policeman (again): “Which alcohol did you take while making the video?” Salman Chishti: “I never drink alcohol.” Policeman: “Tell them, you were drunk, you can save yourself.”

This video was made when police arrested Salman Chishti in Khadim Mohalla at night from his residence. In the video, Salman looked worried, but the policeman accompanying him was showing sympathy to him. The policeman in the video is not an ordinary constable. He is the Circle Officer of Ajmer Dargah Sharif locality.

On Wednesday, when the hate video of Salman Chishti became viral, Ajmer Police had claimed that he was absconding. The fact is, he never absconded, and was in his home. Police nabbed him easily on Wednesday night, and the conversation that I mentioned above, took place between the khadim and the Circle Officer.

The man who openly gave a call to behead Nupur Sharma, and brought infamy to India throughout the world, was being tutored by a senior police officer how to tell a lie. In spite of that, the accused was clearly saying that he never drank alcohol. This means he was in his senses when he made the video in which he gave a call to behead Nupur Sharma. It also clearly indicates that Rajasthan Police was trying to prove that Salman Chishti made this hate video when he was intoxicated.

On Wednesday, when the Additional SP of Ajmer, Vikas Sangwan, was asked about Salman’s hate video, he said, the khadim must have done it in a state of intoxication. It could be that since the police had already taken a line, the CO was whispering in Salman’s ear to tell the court that he was intoxicated.

The police theory about intoxication has now spread to office bearers of Ajmer shrine Anjuman Committee, who have now started saying that Salman Chishti did it in a state of intoxication, since he was an alcoholic and a drug addict.

BJP in Rajasthan has now made it a political issue. Mahant Balaknath, BJP MP from Alwar, alleged that it was because of the policy of appeasement followed by Rajasthan’s Congress government, that the atmosphere is deteriorating. Mahant Balaknath alleged that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s government has become pro-Muslim, and this is causing communal tension. BJP Rajya Sabha member Kirodi Lal Meena said, a lower level police officer can never give such an advice to a criminal, unless he gets orders from above. He described this video as a clear example of Rajasthan government’s appeasement policy.

One can say that the reactions of BJP leaders are political, but the manner in which the state police wrote the script on the ‘khadim’ who gave a call for beheading, makes it amply clear that police was trying to shield him. This could be the outcome of the state government’s Muslim appeasement policy. Another example is that police did not take cognizance of this death threat on time, and waited for the video to go viral. This is sheer negligence.

What is more worrying is that the world famous Ajmer Sharif dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, which was a symbol of communal brotherhood and amity, has been used in the last one week, to spread hatred. At a meeting near the shrine, calls were given to “teach Hindus a lesson”. Such calls were not given by ordinary Muslims. They were given by some of the ‘khadims’ who manage this famous shrine.

Secret meetings of radical Muslim outfits like People’s Front of India (PFI) and its political wing, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), were held inside the shrine. Sarwar Chishti, the secretary of Anjuman Committee, that manages the shrine, had convened one such meeting. There is a video of one of the meetings. The video shows Sarwar Chishti sitting with PFI secretary Mohammed Anees and SDPI leader Mohammed Hashmi. Both the PFI and SDPI leaders were praising Sarwar Chishti in the meeting.

In the video, SDPI leader Mohammed Hashmi is heard saying: “The message that goes out from this shrine of Garib Nawaz is that if you oppress us, we are not going to take it lying down. Janab Sarwar Chishti Sahab’s voice is heard across the world. A good, sincere and honest Mussalman will always stand up against oppression. Only those who prefer oppression will go with the other side. They are ‘dalals’ (brokers) of fascism. Today we want to send this message to the whole country that we are all with the PFI and SDPI. The voices of all secular forces, including that of Sarwar Chishti, are one.”

In my show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Wednesday night, we showed an old video dated February 7, 2022, in which Sarwar Chishti was taking part in a PFI ‘Unity March’ rally in Kota, where he gave an inflammatory speech. In his speech, Sarwar Chishti said, “We are not going to be afraid of Modi. We will fight Modi. We stand with PFI.” Remember, this was the time when there was a big hue and cry in Karnataka over wearing of hijab by girl students. The Kota rally was given permission by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s government. Later, it was found that the Kota rally was followed by violence that took place in Karauli during a Ramnavami procession.

India TV reporter Manish Bhattacharya asked the Dewan (spiritual head) of Ajmer dargah, Syed Zainul Abedin about PFI meetings. He did not name Sarwar Chishti, but admitted that people from PFI used to come to the shrine regularly and hold meetings in the dargah.

Asked why he did not stop such meetings, the Dewan replied, it was not in his powers to do so, and it was up to the ‘khadims’ of dargah and the Anjuman Committee to take the final decision. The Dewan said, “the video in which Salman Chishti called for beheading Nupur Sharma, goes against the core teachings of Khwaja Garib Nawaz. Islam never allows violence and Salman Chishti must get punishment. It should also be probed as to how such people get the courage to give calls for beheading people.”

It was Sarwar Chishti, who on June 17, the day he was elected secretary of Anjuman Committee, gave a call to pilgrims not to buy articles outside the shrine from Hindu shopkeepers, nor sell any articles to them. Sarwar Chishti was probably incensed when Hindus in Ajmer brought out a silent procession in support of Nupur Sharma.

Sarwar Chishti knows very well the type of radical outfit PFI is, and how it is misleading Muslims by peddling half-truths. By joining hands with PFI, he has forgotten the illustrious heritage of Ajmer Sharif shrine that had been propagating the message of love and brotherhood.

For last 800 years, both Hindu and Muslim pilgrims had been worshipping at this shrine. Sarwar Chishti forgot that spreading hate by sitting inside this great shrine is nothing but a sin. Most of the ‘khadims’ at this shrine do not believe in hate. They oppose the poisonous ideology of PFI and Sarwar Chishti.

राजस्थान पुलिस ने अजमेर शरीफ की मशहूर दरगाह के खादिम सलमान चिश्ती को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है। सलमान पर आरोप हैं कि उसने पैगंबर साहब के खिलाफ आपत्तिजनक बयान देने के लिए नूपुर शर्मा का सिर कलम करने वाले को इनाम देने का ऐलान किया था। पुलिस ने कहा कि दरगाह थाने में सलमान चिश्ती एक ‘हिस्ट्री-शीटर’ है, और उसके खिलाफ लूट, धमकी, दंगा और हत्या के प्रयास के आरोपों सहित 14 मामले दर्ज हैं। पुलिस एक और खादिम गौहर चिश्ती की भी तलाश कर रही है, जिसने नूपुर शर्मा को इसी तरह की धमकी दी है।

अजमेर के एडिशनल एस.पी. विकास सांगवान ने बताया कि सलमान चिश्ती को मंगलवार रात खादिम मोहल्ला स्थित उनके घर से पकड़ा गया। सांगवान ने कहा, प्रथमदृष्टया आपत्तिजनक वीडियो तब बनाया गया था जब सलमान चिश्ती नशे की हालत में था। उन्होंने कहा कि उससे पूछताछ की जा रही है।

28 जून से पहले शूट किए गए और बाद में लीक हुए वीडियो में सलमान चिश्ती यह कहते हुए नजर आ रहा है, ‘मुझे कसम है मेरे रब की, जिसने पैदा किया उस मां की, मैं उसे सरेआम गोली मार देता। मेरे बच्चों की कसम, मैं गोली मार देता। आज भी सीना ठोक कर कहता हूं, जो नूपुर शर्मा की गर्दन लाएगा, मैं उसे अपना ये घर दे दूंगा। यह वादा करता है सलमान, ख्वाजा का गुलाम। सादात घराने से हूं, अहले बैत घराने से हूं। और मुझे नाज है, फख्र है। जो मेरे रसूल की शान में बोलेंगे, उसे जिंदा रहने का हक नहीं है। यह घर उसके नाम कर दूंगा, इसके अलावा एक जमीन है, वह भी दे दूंगा। सब कुछ कुर्बान मेरे रसूल की शान में। हुजूर ख्वाजा बाबा के दरबार से मैसेज है। जब उनकी इज्जत नहीं रही तो हमारी कहां से इज्जत रह गई? ये लिबास, ये शान, ये शौकत, ये ऐशो अराम किसी काम के नहीं हैं।’

अजमेर शरीफ की मशहूर दरगाह का निर्माण 13वीं शताब्दी में सूफी संत ख्वाजा मोइनुद्दीन चिश्ती की याद में किया गया था। सुल्तान अल्तमश के शासनकाल में ख्वाजा ईरान से भारत आए थे। ख्वाजा का सन् 1236 में निधन हो गया, और तब दरगाह का निर्माण किया गया। मुगल बादशाह अकबर अपने शासनकाल में कम से कम 14 बार इस दरगाह पर ज़ियारत करने गए थे। मुगल बादशाह जहांगीर और शाहजहां ने कई बार दरगाह का पुनर्निर्माण करवाया था। बड़ौदा के महाराजा ने सन् 1800 में मकबरे के ऊपर एक भव्य छतरी का निर्माण कराया थ। दुनियाभर से लाखों मुसलमान ख्वाजा की दरगाह पर आते हैं। ख्वाजा को ‘गरीब नवाज़’ के नाम से जाना जाता है। कई देशों के राष्ट्रपति, प्रधानमंत्री और दुनिया भर से बहुत से नेता इस दरगाह में ‘चादर’ चढ़ाते आए हैं।

अजमेर शरीफ के खादिम चिश्ती खानदान से हैं। अजमेर शरीफ में 175 हुजरे हैं। हुजरे का मतलब ख्वाजा मोइनुद्दीन चिश्ती के वंश की अलग-अलग शाखाएं। हर हुजरे को अंजुमन कमेटी दरगाह में गद्दी नंबर अलॉट करती है। हर हुजरे के खादिम अपनी गद्दी पर बैठते हैं। सलमान चिश्ती की गद्दी का नंबर 119 है। चूंकि खादिम ‘जियारत’ में मदद करते हैं, इसलिए मुस्लिमों में उनकी काफी इज्जत है। उनकी बात को बहुत तवज्जो दी जाती है। इसलिए किसी को एक खादिम से ऐसे अल्फाज की उम्मीद नहीं थी।

सलमान चिश्ती ने अपने घर पर बैठकर वीडियो बनाया और सोशल मीडिया पर अपलोड कर दिया। दरगाह पर इबादत करने वाले लोगों के लिए एक ‘खादिम’ के ये तीखे अल्फाज बेहद चौंकाने वाले थे।

एक दूसरा खादिम गौहर चिश्ती एक आपत्तिजनक वीडियो में कहते हुए नजर आ रहा है, ‘अगर कोई हमारे हुजूर की शान में गुस्ताखी करेगा तो हम इसको बिल्कुल बर्दाश्त नहीं करेंगे। गुस्ताखे रसूल की एक ही सज़ा, सिर तन से जुदा..सिर तन से जुदा। आका की नामूस (इज़्ज़त) के लिए हम सिर भी कटाने को तैयार हैं। उसने हमारी आका की शान में गुस्ताखी की है, इसलिए नूपुर शर्मा को जीने का कोई हक नहीं है। नूपुर शर्मा मुर्दाबाद।’

ये यकीन करना मुश्किल है कि ख्वाजा मोइनुद्दीन चिश्ती दरगाह के दो खादिम एक शख्स के खिलाफ ज़हर उगल रहे हैं और लोगों से उसका सिर कलम करने की अपील कर रहे हैं। ख्वाजा को अमन और भाईचारे के पैग़ाम के लिए जाना जाता है। इस दरगाह का कोई खादिम ऐसी आपत्तिजनक बातें कैसे कह सकता है?

नूपुर शर्मा का गला काटने वाले को अपना घर इनाम में देने का ऐलान करते वक्त सलमान चिश्ती नशे में था या नहीं, इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता। अगर नशे में भी कोई इस तरह की बात कहता है तो उसे पकड़कर जेल में डालना चाहिए। सवाल ये है कि गरीब नवाज़ की दरगाह के खादिम की इतनी हिम्मत कैसे हुई कि वह किसी की गला काटने की बात कैमरे पर कहे और उसका वीडियो सोशल मीडिया पर वायरल कर दे।

अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह के एक और खादिम गौहर चिश्ती ने 17 जून को ही ऐसे एक वीडियो में लोगों से नूपुर शर्मा का सिर काटने की बात कही थी। उसने अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह के निज़ाम गेट के पास भीड़ के सामने तकरीर की थी, और नारे लगवाए थे, ‘गुस्ताखे रसूल की एक सज़ा, सर तन से जुदा, सर तन से जुदा।’

17 जून को गौहर चिश्ती ने ‘सर तन से जुदा’ के नारे लगवाए, और 28 जून को उदयपुर में कन्हैयालाल का गला काट दिया गया। गला काटने वाले मोहम्मद रियाज और गौस मोहम्मद वारदात के बाद अजमेर की तरफ ही जा रहे थे, उन्हें रास्ते में पकड़ा गया।

राजस्थान पुलिस ने गौहर चिश्ती के खिलाफ 25 जून को केस दर्ज किया था, लेकिन उसको आज तक नहीं पकड़ पाई है और वह अभी भी फरार है। ऐसी खबरें हैं कि गौहर चिश्ती के PFI यानी पीपुल्स फ्रंट ऑफ इंडिया के साथ करीबी रिश्ते हैं। रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, वह पाकिस्तान के कट्टरपंथी संगठन दावत-ए-इस्लामी से भी जुड़ा हैं। यहां गौर करने वाली बात ये है कि उदयपुर में कन्हैया का गला काटने वाले मोहम्मद रियाज़ और गौस मोहम्मद भी दावत-ए-इस्लामी से जुड़े थे, और दोनों ने पाकिस्तान में ट्रेनिंग ली थी।

अब इससे भी ज्यादा चौंकाने वाली बात सुनिए। गौहर चिश्ती अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह का कोई मामूली खादिम नहीं है। अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह की अंजुमन कमेटी के सेक्रेट्री सरवर चिश्ती उसके चाचा हैं। अंजुमन कमेटी के सेक्रेट्री का ओहदा एक CEO की तरह हैं, यानी दरगाह कमेटी में सारे अहम फैसले सरवर चिश्ती की रजामंदी से ही होंगे। पिछले ही महीने 14 जून को अंजुमन कमेटी के इलेक्शन हुए, जिसमें 175 हुजरों के खादिमों ने अपने वोट डाले थे। खादिमों के समर्थन से सरवर चिश्ती को जीत मिली। चुनाव जीतने के बाद दरगाह परिसर में ही सरवर चिश्ती ने लोगों से कहा था कि नूपुर शर्मा ने जो कहा उसे किसी भी सूरत में बर्दाश्त नहीं किया जाएगा। उन्होंने कहा, ‘हम पुलिस के पास दो आंखें लेकर जाएंगे, एक आंख मिलाने के लिये, और दूसरी आंख दिखाने के लिए । हम चुप बैठने वाले नहीं है। हम हिंदुस्तान को हिला कर रख देंगे।’

सरवर चिश्ती ने 14 जून को अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह में खड़े होकर कहा था,‘हिंदुस्तान हिला देंगे’, और 28 जून को हिंदुस्तान हिल गया, जब दर्जी कन्हैयालाल का गला काट दिया गया। कातिलों ने हत्या का वीडियो बनाया, फिर हाथ में खून से सना खंजर लेकर वीडियो सोशल मीडिया पर पोस्ट कर दिया।

जब इंडिया टीवी के रिपोर्टर मनीष भट्टाचार्य ने सरवर चिश्ती से बात की, तो उन्होंने तुरंत बात बदल दी। उन्होंने कहा, ‘हिंदुस्तान तो नूपुर शर्मा ने हिला रखा है। रसूल की शान में गुस्ताखी किसी भी सूरत में बर्दाश्त नहीं की जाएगी।’ जब उनसे पूछा गया कि गौहर चिश्ती तो ‘सर तन से जुदा’ के नारे लगवा रहा था, सरवर चिश्ती ने कहा, ‘वो क्या कर रहा था, क्या कह रहा था, इससे मुझे क्या मतलब। कोई अपनी पर्सनल कैपेसिटी में कुछ भी करे, उसके लिए अंजुमन कमेटी थोड़े जिम्मेदार है।’

सरवर चिश्ती मामूली खादिम नहीं हैं, वह खादिमों के नेता हैं, इसलिए नेताओं जैसी बात कर रहे हैं। वह ‘सर तन से जुदा’ जैसे नारों की मुखालफत नहीं कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने अपने भतीजे खादिम गौहर चिश्ती के बयान से किनारा करने की कोशिश की, फिर उसे जस्टिफाई भी करने लगे। लेकिन जब सलमान चिश्ती का वीडियो सामने आ गया तो सरवर चिश्ती सामने आए और कहा, ‘सलमान चिश्ती ने जो कहा उसे दरगाह से जोड़ना ठीक नहीं है। सलमान ने घर में बैठकर बयान दिया है, इससे दरगाह का क्या लेना-देना। सलमान ने जो कहा अंजुमन कमेटी उसकी कड़े शब्दों में निंदा करती है।’ लेकिन इसके बाद सरवर चिश्ती की टोन बदल गई और उन्होंने कहा, ‘जो लोग मुसलमानों के खिलाफ नारे लगाते हैं, इस्लाम के खिलाफ बोलते हैं, उनको क्यों नहीं रोका जाता?’

सरवर चिश्ती के तेवरों से ऐसा कहीं नहीं लग रहा कि उन्हें ‘हिंदुस्तान को हिला देंगे’ वाले अपने बयान पर किसी तरह का अफसोस है। सरवर चिश्ती जिस अजमेर शरीफ की दरगाह को चलाने वाली कमेटी के सरबराह बने हैं, उस दरगाह में मुसलमानों के साथ-साथ बड़ी तादाद में हिंदू भी जाते हैं। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी से लेकर कई बड़े फिल्मी सितारे वहां चादर चढ़ाते हैं। उसी दरगाह का इंतजाम देखने वाली अंजुमन कमेटी को चलाने वाले अगर यह कहें कि वे हिंदुस्तान को हिलाकर रख देंगे, तो ये अफसोसनाक बात है। इससे लोगों में गलत संदेश जाता है।

हालांकि मैं ये भी जोड़ना चाहूंगा कि ख्वाजा मोइनुद्दन चिश्ती की दरगाह के सभी खादिम ऐसे नहीं है। ज्यादातर खादिम इंसानियत, प्रेम, भाईचारे की बात करते हैं। वे हिंसा के लिए उकसाने वालों के खिलाफ ऐक्शन की बात करते हैं। सलमान चिश्ती के वीडियो के चक्कर में अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह के एक दूसरे खादिम के लिए बड़ी दिक्कत खड़ी हो गई। दरअसल इस खादिम का नाम भी सलमान चिश्ती है, और इन्होंने कोई बयान नहीं दिया था।

जब इंडिया टीवी के रिपोर्टर ‘दूसरे’ सलमान चिश्ती से मिले तो उन्होंने कहा कि उन्हें तमाम मैसेज और फोन कॉल्स आ रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि वह मजहबी तकरीरों के लिए अक्सर विदेश भी जाते रहते हैं। दो दिन पहले ही वह पेरिस से लौटे हैं। मुस्लिम जगत में उनके काफी अनुयायी हैं। लेकिन जब ‘पहले वाले’ सलमान चिश्ती का भड़काऊ बयान वायरल हुआ तो कई लोग कन्फ्यूज हो गए और उन्होंने उनसे ही सवाल पूछे शुरू कर दिए। ‘दूसरे’ सलमान चिश्ती ने कहा कि दरगाह भाईचारे का पैगाम देती है। हिंसा की बात करने वाले ख्वाजा के खादिम नहीं हो सकते। उन्होंने कहा, सरकारी एजेंसियों को इस बात का पता लगाना चाहिए कि ‘सर तन से जुदा’ जैसे नारे अचानक वायरल क्यों हो रहे हैं, और इन नारों के लिए कौन भड़का रहा है।

एक सलमान चिश्ती नूपुर शर्मा की गर्दन काटने वाले को घर देने की बात कह रहा है। दूसरे सलमान चिश्ती भाईचारे का पैगाम दे रहे हैं। दोनों का नाम सलमान चिश्ती है, दोनों अजमेर शरीफ दरगाह में खादिम हैं, लेकिन बातों में और विचारों में कितना फर्क है। कुछ लोग हैं जो नफरत फैला रहे हैं, लेकिन सारे मुसलमान ऐसे नहीं हैं। ज्यादातर मुस्लिम भाईचारे से रहना चाहते हैं, लेकिन चिंता की बात यह है कि जब अजमेर शरीफ की अंजुमन कमेटी के सेक्रेट्री ही हिंदुस्तान हिलाने की बात कह रहे हों, और उसे जस्टिफाई करने की कोशिश कर रहे हों, तो फिर क्या कहा जाए।

मंगलवार को अंजुमन कमेटी की तरफ से एक अपील जारी की गई जिसमें कहा गया कि अजमेर शरीफ की दरगाह का इस्तेमाल कोई नफरत फैलाने में न करें। दरगाह परिसर में बैठकर, परिसर के सामने खड़े होकर कोई ऐसी बात न कहे जिससे समाज में दूरियां पैदा हों। अंजुमन कमेटी का यह प्रस्ताव दो साल पुराना है। इसे 8 अगस्त 2020 को पास किया गया था। इस प्रस्ताव में कहा गया है कि दरगाह परिसर का इस्तेमाल देशविरोधी बयानों और बैठकों के लिए न किया जाए। दरगाह शरीफ पाक जगह है और इसका इस्तेमाल मजहबी कामों के लिए ही किया जाए। मुझे लगता है कि इस तरह के रस्मी कदमों से कुछ नहीं होगा। जो लोग भड़काऊ बातें कहते हैं, उनके खिलाफ ऐक्शन हो क्योंकि जब अजमेर शरीफ जैसी पाक जगह से इस तरह के बयान आते हैं तो दूसरे कट्टरपंथी तत्वों की हिम्मत बढ़ती है।

मैं बूंदी (राजस्थान) के एक मौलवी मौलाना मुफ्ती नदीम, जो कि एक YouTube चैनल चलाता है, के एक भड़काऊ भाषण के बारे में बताना चाहता हूं। मौलाना के भड़काऊ भाषण को राजस्थान पुलिस ने उस समय गंभीरता से नहीं लिया, और उसका वीडियो खूब वायरल हुआ। इस वीडियो में मौलाना पैगंबर की शान में गुस्ताखी करने वालों के हाथ काटने, जुबान काटने और आंखें निकाल लेने की बात चिल्ला-चिल्लाकर कह रहा है। उस वक्त राजस्थान पुलिस ने इस मौलाना के खिलाफ कोई ऐक्शन नहीं लिया, और 28 जून को कन्हैयालाल का सिर कलम कर दिया गया।

मौलाना मुफ्ती नदीम को 1 जुलाई को गिरफ्तार किया गया, लेकिन केस इतना कमजोर बनाया गया कि उसे अगले ही दिन, यानी कि 2 जुलाई को जमानत भी मिल गई। इतना ही नहीं, मौलाना को रिसीव करने के लिए जेल के बाहर गाड़ियों का काफिला पहुंचा। इसके बाद मस्जिद में मौलाना का जबरदस्त स्वागत हुआ, उसे फूल मालाएं पहनाई गईं।

इसी तरह, अजमेर में इंजीनियरिंग की पढ़ाई कर रहे एक कश्मीरी छात्र वहीद ने कन्हैयालाल के बेरहमी से हुए कत्ल की तस्वीर वॉट्सऐप पर पोस्ट की, जिसमें नीचे कैप्शन दिया था ‘बस 15 मिनट’ और उसके बाद स्माइली वाली इमोजी लगाई थी। यह दिखाता है कि वहीद कन्हैया की हत्या से खुश था। पुलिस ने उसकी लोकेशन जम्मू में ट्रेस कर ली है और अब उसे पकड़ने की कोशिश कर रही है।

राजस्थान में कांग्रेस और बीजेपी के नेता इस मुद्दे को लेकर एक-दूसरे पर जमकर निशाना साध रहे हैं, लेकिन मुझे लगता है कि यह मुद्दा सियासत का नहीं है। राजस्थान की कांग्रेस सरकार के मंत्री प्रताप सिंह खचरियावास की यह बात सही है कि कुछ लोग मुस्लिम समाज में हीरो बनने के लिए इस तरह के वीडियो बना रहे हैं। लेकिन कांग्रेस की सरकार को यह सोचना होगा कि इस तरह की घटनाएं राजस्थान से ही क्यों शुरू हुईं। क्या दहशत का खेल खेलने वालों को यह तो नहीं लगता कि राजस्थान की पुलिस उनके खिलाफ ऐक्शन नहीं लेगी?

दूसरी बात यह कि पाकिस्तान का दावत-ए-इस्लामी हो या हिंदुस्तान का PFI हो, कत्ल करने वाले हों या कातिलों को भड़काने वाले, इन सबके तार एक दूसरे से जुड़े हैं। ये लोग इस्लाम का भी इस्तेमाल करते हैं और अपने मुसलमान होने का भी फायदा उठाते हैं, लेकिन न तो इस्लाम में कत्ल-ओ-गारत की बात कही गई है, और न ही ज्यादतर मुसलमान ऐसी बातों को सपोर्ट करते हैं। लेकिन दिकक्त यह है कि इस्लाम को मानने वाले ऐसे लोगों को अलग करने की कोशिश नहीं करते, ऐसे लोगों को समाज से बाहर करने की कोशिश नहीं करते।

मुस्लिम समाज को यह देखना होगा कि ऐसे लोग ये सोच भी कैसे सकते हैं कि ‘सर तन से जुदा’ करने की बात करके ये मुस्लिम समाज के हीरो बन सकते हैं। इससे खराब बात क्या हो सकती है कि सर तन से जुदा करने वाली बातें अजमेर शरीफ में बैठ कर कही गईं। गरीब नवाज़ की दरगाह का इतिहास 800 साल पुराना है। सूफी संत मोइनुद्दीन चिश्ती सर्वधर्म समभाव के प्रतीक माने जाते हैं। मान्यता है कि हिंदू हो या मुसलमान, गरीब हो या अमीर, राजा हो या रंक, कोई ख्वाजा की चौखट से खाली हाथ नहीं लौटा।

अब अंजुमन कमेटी को आगे आना चाहिए और पूरे मुल्क को एक बार फिर से गरीब नवाज़ का संदेश देना चाहिए। लेकिन इसके लिए जरूरी है कि सबसे पहले वे अपने यहां बैठे ऐसे लोगों को बाहर करें, जो ख्वाजा मोइनुद्दीन चिश्ती की तालीम को, उनके पैग़ाम को मानने से इनकार करते हैं। ये काम पूरे मुस्लिम समाज को करना होगा वरना ऐसी घटनाओं को कोई रोक नहीं पाएगा। उदयपुर में दर्जी का सिर कलम करने की घटना इसका एक बड़ा उदाहरण है, और इसे किसी भी कीमत पर दोहराया नहीं जाना चाहिए।

Rajasthan Police has arrested Salman Chishti, the ‘khadim’ of famous Ajmer Sharif shrine, for publicly offering a reward to the person who beheads Nupur Sharma for her objectionable remark against Prophet Mohammad.

Police said, Salman Chishti is a ‘history-sheeter’ at Dargah police station, and he had 14 criminal cases, including charges of robbery, intimidation, rioting and attempt to murder, against him. Police is also on the lookout for another ‘khadim’ Gauhar Chishti, who has also made similar threats against Nupur Sharma.

Assistant SP of Ajmer, Vikas Sangwan said, Salman Chishti was nabbed on Tuesday night from his residence in Khadim mohalla. Sangwan said, prima facie the objectionable video was made when Salman Chishti was in an inebriated condition. He is being interrogated, he added.

In the video allegedly shot before June 28 and leaked later, Salman Chishti is shown saying: “ I vow in the name of Almighty Allah who made my mother give birth to me, I would have shot her publicly. I vow in the name of my children, I would have shot her. Even today, I openly declare, whosoever brings Nupur Sharma’s head to me, I will gift him my house. This is the promise of Salman, slave of Khwaja. I belong to the clan of Sadaat, Ahle Beit, I am proud of my clan. Whosoever insults our Prophet, must be beheaded, and I will gift my home and my land to that man. I will sacrifice everything I own to protect the veneration of our Prophet. This is the message from Huzur Khwaja Baba ka durbar. If He loses respect, what respect remains for us to lose? All these clothes and wealth are of no use.”

The famous Ajmer Sharif shrine was built in the 13th century in memory of the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, who came from Iran to India during the reign of Sultan Iltutmish. The Khwaja passed away in 1236, and the shrine was built at his tomb. Mughal emperor Akbar visited the shrine no less than 14 times during his reign. The shrine was rebuilt several times by Mughal emperors Jehangir and Shahjehan, and the Maharaja of Baroda built a beautiful covering over the tomb in 1800. Lakhs of Muslims from across the world visit this shrine to pay respects to Khwaja, popularly known as ‘Garib Nawaaz’. Presidents, prime ministers and other world leaders offer ‘chaadar’ at this shrine.

The ’khadims’ (custodians) of the shrine had been keeping the keys of the holy shrine and the ‘toshak khana’ in their custody since centuries. Only ‘khadims’ are entitled to take pilgrims to this shrine for ‘ziyarat’ (pilgrimage) and they have the right to accept all offerings from pilgrims. The ‘khadims’ belong to the Chishti clan. There are 175 branches of Khwaja’s clan in Ajmer Sharif, and every branch (‘hujare’) is allotted a ‘gaddi’(cushioned seat) at the dargah. The ‘khadim’ Salman Chishti and his family sits on ‘gaddi number 119’. Since ‘khadims’ assist pilgrims in ‘ziyarat’, they command respect among lakhs of Muslims. No one ever imagined that a ‘khadim’ would make such objectionable comments.

Reports say, Salman Chishti made the video sitting in his residence, and uploaded it on social media. It was stunning for people, who revere the shrine, hearing objectionable remarks from a ‘khadim’.

There is another objectionable video made by another ‘khadim’ Gauhar Chishti, in which he is shown as saying, “If anybody insults our Prophet, we will never tolerate. The only punishment for insulting our Rasool is ‘sar tan se juda’ (beheading). We are ready to offer our head to protect the veneration of our Lord, and we are ready to behead who insults Him. Nupur Sharma has insulted our Prophet, and she does not deserve to live. Nupur Sharma Murdabad.”

It is difficult to believe, two ‘khadims’ of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti dargah spouting venom against an individual and appealing to people to behead her. Khwaja is known for his message of universal peace and brotherhood. How can a khadim of this shrine make such objectionable remarks?

It does not matter whether Salman Chishti was making this death threat when he was in an inebriated condition. Even if somebody gives a death threat under the influence of alcohol, he should be sent to jail. The question is, how did a ‘khadim’ of Ajmer shrine get the courage to call for beheading a lady, make a video and then uploaded it on social media. There was another ‘khadim’ Gauhar Chishti who made a similar video on June 17 calling people to behead Nupur Sharma. He was addressing a crowd near Nizam Gate of Ajmer Sharif shrine, and prodding people to chant slogans “Gustaak-e-Rasool ki ek sazaa, Sar tan se juda, Sar tan se juda.”

On June 17, Gauhar Chishti chanted this slogan for beheading, and on June 28, tailor Kanhaiyalal was beheaded by two killers in Udaipur, Mohammed Riaz and Ghaus Mohammed. Both the killers were moving towards Ajmer after committing the horrific act, and were arrested on the way.

Rajasthan Police had filed a case against Gauhar Chishti on June 25, but he is yet to be apprehended. There are reports that Gauhar Chishti had close contacts with PFI (People’s Front of India), a radical Islamist outfit. There are reports that he had also links with Daawat-e-Islami, a militant Pakistani outfit. Point to note, both Mohammed Riaz and Ghaus Mohammad, killers of Kanhaiyalal had received training from Daawat-e-Islami in Pakistan.

One more surprising point. Gauhar Chishti is not an ordinary ‘khadim’. His uncle, Sarwar Chishti is the secretary of the powerful Anjuman Committee of Ajmer Sharif dargah. The secretary functions as a CEO, who takes vital decisions relating to the shrine. In the election for Anjuman Committee on June 14, ‘khadims’ from 175 branches cast their votes. Sarwar Chishti won the election. At that time, he had told people that the remarks made by Nupur Sharma against the Prophet will never be tolerated. “We will take two eyes to the police, we will stare and we will also dare. We will not sit quiet. We will shake Hindustan”, he said.
Sarwar Chishti made this speech at Ajmer Sharif shrine on June 14, and on June 28, India was shaken, when a tailor Kanhaiyalal was beheaded. The killers made a video of the beheading, and then posted it on social media with their blood-stained hands holding the ‘khanjar’ (big knife).
When India TV reporter Manish Bhattacharya met Sarwar Chishti in Ajmer, he tried to give a spin to his remarks. He said, “it was Nupur Sharma whose remark has shaken Hindustan. We will not tolerate any insult to our Rasool (Prophet).” Asked about his nephew Gauhar Chishti calling for ‘sar tan se juda’ (beheading), Sarwar Chishti replied: “I am not concerned with what he said or what he was doing. Let him do whatever he wants in his personal capacity. Anjuman Committee is not responsible for this.”

These were the remarks of Sarwar Chishti, a leader of ‘khadims’. He was not opposing ‘sar tan se juda’ (beheading) threats. He was indirectly justifying what his nephew had done. When his remarks were aired on television, Sarwar Chishti came again as said, “It is unfair to link what Salman Chishti said with the shrine. Salman made this remark in his home and the shrine has nothing to do with it. Anjuman Committee strongly condemns what Salman said.” He then changed his tone and asked: “When people chant slogans against Muslims and Islam, why are they not prevented?”

Looking at the tone and tenor of his remarks, it does not appear Sarwar Chishti had any regret about “Hindustan ko hila dengey” remark. The shrine where he heads the powerful Anjuman Committee, is revered by Hindus too. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to top film celebrities, all of them offer ‘chaadar’ at the shrine. And if the secretary of the shrine committee makes such a remark, it is highly regrettable. He was sending a wrong message to people.

I would also like to add that not all ‘khadims’ at Ajmer Sharif shrine do not have such radical views. They speak about the message of love, humanity and brotherhood. They speak against those who incite violence. Coincidentally, there is another namesake Salman Chishti, a ‘khadim’ at the shrine. When India TV reporter met the ‘second’ Salman Chishti, he said, he has been getting numerous messages and phone calls. He regularly visits foreign countries to spread the message of brotherhood. He had returned from Paris two days ago. He has a large following among Muslims. But when the ‘first’ Salman Chishti’s objectionable video went viral, many Muslims were confused and started asking him questions. The ‘second’ Salman Chishti said, the famous Ajmer Sharif dargah gives the message of brotherhood and love. Those who speak of violence cannot be true ‘khadims’. He said, government agencies must investigate who is spreading this message of ‘sar tan se juda’ (beheading).

It is really a paradox. Both are khadims and are named Salman Chishti. One calls for beheading, and the other speaks of love and brotherhood. Only a handful of people are spreading hate, and not all Muslims believe in hate. They believe in love and brotherhood. But when the secretary of Anjuman Committee speaks of shaking up Hindustan, and then tries to justify it, nothing can be said further.

On Tuesday, a resolution from Anjuman Committee was circulated appealed to people not to use the shrine to spread hate and refrain from spreading hate while sitting inside the shrine. This resolution is however two years old. It was passed on August 8, 2020. The resolution says, the shrine must not be used for anti-national statements and meetings, since it is a sacred dargah, and it should be used for religious purpose only. I think this is only a routine step. Action must be taken against those who call for beheading and violence. When such objectionable statements emanate from the famous Sufi shrine, other radical elements muster courage.

I would like to point out to a hate speech made by a cleric from Boondi (Rajasthan), Maulana Mufti Nadeem, who runs a YouTube channel. His hate speech was not taken seriously by Rajasthan police, and the hate video got viral. In this video, the Maulana is asking people to cut off the hands and tongue, and gouge out the eyes of those who insult the Prophet. Rajasthan Police failed to take any step against this cleric, and on June 28, Kanhaiyalal was beheaded. Maulana Mufti Nadeem was arrested on July 1, but the case prepared by police was so weak, that he came out on bail the next day. The maulana was received a big cavalcade of cars outside the jail. The maulana was garlanded and given a hero’s welcome.

Similarly, a Kashmiri student, Waheed, studying engineering in Ajmer, posted on WhatsApp the picture of Kanhaiyalal’s murder with a caption “Bas 15 minute” alongwith a smiley emoji. It indicate he was happy with the beheading. Police traced his location in Jammu and is now trying to nab him.

Already Congress and BJP leaders in Rajasthan are taking pot shots at one another over this issue, but I feel, this is not a political issue. The statement of Rajasthan’s Congress minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas is correct that some people are posting hate videos in order to project themselves as heroes among Muslims. But the Congress government must ponder why such incidents are originating from Rajasthan. Are those spreading terror and hate feeling that no action would be taken against them by Rajasthan police?

Secondly, whether it is PFI in India or Dawat-e-Islami in Pakistan, they seem to have links with the killers or those inciting violence. These outfits are using the name of Islam, but Islam, as I know it, does not encourage violence. Majority of Muslims do not support beheading or violence. But the problem is that, there seems to be no effort in the community to isolate such radical elements, nor are such elements boycotted by the community.

Muslim community must introspect how these elements can even think that they can become heroes if they speak about beheading others. It is really very said that the calls for beheading came from one of the most venerated Muslim shrines in Ajmer Sharif. This shrine has a 800-year-old illustrious history. The dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is considered the symbol of ‘sarva-dharma-sambhav’. There are legends of how kings and commoners, Hindus and Muslims went to this shrine seeking blessings and never returned empty-handed.
The Anjuman Committee must come forward and give the message of love and brotherhood of Garib Nawaz to the entire country. But first, the committee must expel those who, by giving calls for beheading, are negating the very message of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The entire Muslim community must collectively do this work, otherwise it will be difficult to stop this dangerous trend. The beheading that took place in Udaipur is an example, that must never be repeated.

राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी (NIA) इस वक्त महाराष्ट्र के अमरावती में केमिस्ट उमेश कोल्हे की 21 जून को हुई बर्बर हत्या में गिरफ्तार सभी सात आरोपियों से पूछताछ कर रही है। इस बीच सोशल मीडिया पर ऐसी ऑडियो रिकॉर्डिंग्स सामने आई हैं, जिनसे पता चलता है कि नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने वाले दर्जनों लोगों को जान से मारने की धमकी दी गई थी ।

सोमवार को अमरावती की एक अदालत ने सभी सात आरोपियों को NIA की हिरासत में भेज दिया, जबकि अमरावती पुलिस ने उनके खिलाफ गैरकानूनी गतिविधि (रोकथाम) अधिनियम (UAPA) के तहत धार्मिक भावनाओं को आहत करने और वैमनस्य पैदा करने के नये आरोप जोड़ दिए। NIA ने सभी आरोपियों को ट्रांजिट रिमांड पर ले लिया है और उन्हें 8 जुलाई से पहले मुंबई की एक अदालत में पेश करेगी।

अब तक मिले सबूत साफ तौर यह संकेत देते हैं कि उमेश कोल्हे की हत्या कट्टरपंथी मुसलमानों ने बीजेपी की पूर्व प्रवक्ता नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने के लिए की थी। नूपुर शर्मा ने पैगंबर मुहम्मद के बारे में विवादित बयान दिया था। कोल्हे ने नूपुर के एक समर्थक के मैसेज को वॉट्सऐप ग्रुप पर फॉरवर्ड किया था। नूपुर शर्मा के समर्थन में मैसेज पोस्ट करने वाले सभी लोगों को धमकी भरे फोन किए गए थे।

चौंकाने वाली बात यह है कि अमरावती पुलिस ने इन सारी धमकियों को हल्के में लिया, और धमकी देने वाले इस्लामिक कट्टरपंथियों पर कार्रवाई नहीं की। अब जो खुलासे हो रहे हैं वे चौंकाने वाले हैं, परेशान करने वाले हैं। ये खुलासे अमरावती पुलिस की भूमिका पर सवाल उठाते हैं। अमरावती पुलिस ने उमेश कोल्हे के कातिलों को पकड़ लिया था, लेकिन उसने इस बात को दबाए रखा कि उनकी हत्या नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने के कारण की गई। पुलिस ने इसे हत्या का एक रूटीन केस बताया था।

सबसे ज्यादा परेशान करने वाली बात यह है कि उमेश कोल्हे की हत्या से 2 हफ्ते पहले अमरावती में कई ऐसे लोगों को धमकी भरे फोन आने शुरू हो गए थे, जो सोशल मीडिया पर नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन कर रहे थे। इन लोगों को धमका कर उनसे माफी के वीडियो बनवाए जा रहे थे। ये वीडियो वायरल किए जा रहे थे, लेकिन अमरावती पुलिस ने इसकी गंभीरता को नहीं समझा।

सोमवार की रात अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में, हमने एक इस्लामिक कट्टरपंथी और एक अन्य शख्स के बीच हुई बातचीत की ऑडियो सुनाई। इस ऑडियो में एक व्यक्ति को नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने पर धमकी दी जा रही थी। एक और परेशान करने वाली बात यह है कि उदयपुर में सिर कलम करने और अमरावती हत्याकांड, दोनों मामलों में हत्या की साजिश रचने वाले मृतकों के करीबी दोस्त थे।

अमरावती में गिरफ्तार सात लोगों में से दो को हत्या के 48 घंटे के भीतर गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया था, लेकिन पुलिस पिछले 10 दिनों से हत्या के मकसद का पता लगा रही थी। कोल्हे की हत्या से 10 दिन पहले कई अन्य लोगों को भी फोन पर गला काटने की धमकी दी गई थी। ये सारे सबूत अब पब्लिक डोमेन में हैं, फिर ऐसा कैसे हो सकता है कि अमरावती पुलिस यह नहीं समझ पाई कि उमेश कोल्हे की हत्या का नूपुर शर्मा कनेक्शन है। अब जब NIA ने केस को अपने हाथ में लिया, तब जाकर अमरावती पुलिस हरकत में आई और अब नए सबूत सामने आ रहे हैं।

जो सबूत मुझे मिले हैं, उनसे यह साफ हो जाता है कि अमरावती में कई वॉट्सऐप ग्रुप सक्रिय थे। एक ग्रुप का नाम ‘ब्लैक फ्रीडम’ है, और दूसरे ग्रुप का नाम रहबर है। ऐसे दर्जनों ग्रुप हैं जिन्होंने नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने वालों के वॉट्सऐप स्टैटस और पोस्ट के स्क्रीनशॉट पोस्ट किए थे। इसके तुरंत बाद इन लोगों के पास धमकी भरे फोन आने लगे। ये सिलसिला कई दिनों तक चला, लेकिन स्थानीय पुलिस को इस तरह की गतिविधि के बारे में कोई खबर नहीं हुई।

हैरानी की बात यह है कि जिन लोगों को धमकी दी जा रही थी, उन्हें धमकाने वाले ज्यादातर जान-पहचान वाले थे। रहबर नाम का NGO चलाने वाला इरफान शेख अपने लोगों के जरिए नूपुर का समर्थन करने वालों को धमका रहा था। रहबर NGO के ऑफिस से फोन करके नूपुर का समर्थन करने वालों से कहा जा रहा था कि मुसलमान, नबी की शान में गुस्ताखी करने वालों की गर्दन काट देते हैं, इसलिए अगर उन्होंने माफी नहीं मांगी तो इसके गंभीर नतीजे भुगतने होंगे।

अमरावती के एक शख्स ने 10 जून को नूपुर शर्मा के समर्थन में एक वॉट्सऐप स्टेटस डाला और कुछ ही घंटों में उसे धमकी भरे कॉल आने लगे। उसे अपनी ‘गलती’ के लिए माफी मांगते हुए वीडियो पोस्ट करने के लिए या अंजाम भुगतने के लिए तैयार रहने को कहा गया। सोमवार की रात ‘आज की बात’ में हमने दोनों के बीच हुई बातचीत का ऑडियो चलाया था, जिसमें एक कट्टरपंथी मुसलमान उसकी दुकान पर जाकर ‘देख लेने’ की धमकी दे रहा था, और दूसरा शख्स परेशना होकर कह रहा था कि वह जल्द ही ‘माफी’ की एक वीडियो बनाकर भेज देगा। इसके तुरंत बाद उसने उस नंबर पर हाथ जोड़कर ‘माफी’ मांगने का वीडियो भेजा।

यह सब एक सोची-समझी रणनीति का हिस्सा लगता है, ऐसा अचानक नहीं हुआ होगा। इसी तरह की दूसरी घटना में अमरावती के एक जाने-माने डॉक्टर को रहबर NGO ग्रुप के किसी शख्स की तरफ से धमकी दी जा रही थी। धमकी देने वाला शख्स डॉक्टर को जानता था, लेकिन साथ ही यह भी कहता है कि इस्लाम के खिलाफ बोलने वाले को सपोर्ट करेंगे तो डॉक्टर साहब को दिक्कत होगी, अंजाम भुगतना होगा।

डॉक्टर फोन पर गिड़गिड़ाते हुए कहते हैं कि नूपुर शर्मा के समर्थन में स्टैटस डालने के पीछे कोई गलत इरादा नहीं था। उन्होंने कहा कि अगर स्टैटस खराब लगा तो हटा देता हूं, लेकिन धमकी देने वाला कह रहा है कि यह स्टैटस उसे अच्छा नहीं लगा और अगर डॉक्टर साहब आगे भी ऐसा करेंगे तो फिर पूरा शहर उनके खिलाफ हो जाएगा। इसके बाद डॉक्टर पूछते हैं तो फिर क्या करें, जिसका जबाव मिलता है माफी का एक वीडियो बनाकर मुझे भेजो।

डॉक्टर ने फौरन माफी का वीडियो बनाकर फोन करने वाले को भेज दिया। वीडियो में डॉक्टर कहत हुए दिख रहे हैं: ‘कल मैंने ‘आई सपोर्ट नूपुर शर्मा’ का स्टैटस लगाया था। इसके पीछे किसी धर्म का, या किसी जाति का, या किसी इंसान का दिल दुखाने का कोई मकसद नहीं था। फिर भी अगर किसी का दिल दुखा होगा तो मैं अपने दिल से उन सबसे माफी मांगता हूं, और आंइदा ऐसी गलती नहीं होगी, इसकी गवाही देता हूं।’

रहबर NGO से लोगों को धमकी देने का काम इस संस्था का उपाध्यक्ष राजिक मिर्जा कर रहा था। इंडिया टीवी के संवाददाता राजेश कुमार ने राजिक मिर्जा से मुलाकात की। मिर्जा ने माना कि उसने डॉक्टर को फोन किया था, लेकिन वह धमकी नहीं दे रहे थे। उसने दावा किया कि वह सिर्फ ‘रिक्वेस्ट’ कर रहा था कि अगर उन्होंने माफी नहीं मांगी तो पूरा शहर उनके खिलाफ हो जाएगा। राजिक मिर्जा ने कहा कि वह डॉक्टर को जानता है, उनके पास मरीज भेजता है। उसने कहा कि उसका मतलब यह था कि अगर डॉक्टर माफी नहीं मांगते हैं, तो वह उनके पास मरीज भेजना बंद कर देगा।

मिर्जा जिस शख्स को धमकी दे रहा था, वह एक डॉक्टर था । जब इंडिया टीवी के संवाददाता ने राजिक मिर्जा से कहा कि रहबर वॉट्सऐप ग्रुप में उमेश कोल्हे के स्टैटस का स्क्रीनशॉट पोस्ट किया गया था, उसके बाद ही उनकी हत्या हुई, तो उसने इस बात से इनकार कर दिया। लेकिन वह झूठ बोल रहा था। सच यही है कि उमेश कोल्हे के 16 साल पुराने दोस्त डॉक्टर युसूफ खान ने उमेश कोल्हे के वॉट्सऐप स्टैटस को इस रहबर ग्रुप में शेयर किया था। उमेश कोल्हे की एक मेडिकल शॉप थी, और डॉक्टर युसूफ एक पशु चिकित्सक था। उमेश कोल्हे डॉक्टर युसूफ की मदद किया करते थे।

उमेश कोल्हे ने नूपुर शर्मा के समर्थन में वॉट्ऐसप स्टैटस लगाया था, और धमकी मिलने के बाद उसे डिलीट कर दिया। लेकिन इस दौरान उनके दोस्त डॉक्टर युसूफ ने उसका स्क्रीनशॉट लेकर उसे रहबर वॉट्सऐप ग्रुप में पोस्ट कर दिया। इसके बाद रहबर NGO का उपाध्यक्ष शेख इरफान ऐक्टिव हो या और पुलिस के मुताबिक उसी ने उमेश कोल्हे की हत्या की साजिश रची। उमेश कोल्हे की हत्या के बाद से इस ग्रुप में कोई ऐक्टिविटी नहीं हो रही है, हालांकि ग्रुप को डिलीट नहीं किया गया है।

सभी 7 आरोपी अब NIA की हिरासत में हैं, और उनके नाम हैं: यूसुफ खान (32), अब्दुल तौफीक (24), मुदस्सर अहमद (22), शाहरुख पठान (25), शोएब खान (22), आतिब राशिद (22) , और कथित मास्टरमाइंड शेख इरफान शेख रहीम।

मैं एक बात साफ कर दूं कि नूपुर शर्मा ने जो कहा, उसका समर्थन कोई नहीं कर सकता और करना भी नहीं चाहिए, लेकिन अगर किसी ने इसका सपोर्ट कर भी दिया तो उसे धमकी दी जाए, जान से मारने की बात कही जाए, इसे भी ठीक नहीं कहा जा सकता। इसमें कोई शक नहीं है अमरावती में नूपुर शर्मा को सपोर्ट करने वालों को जान से मारने की धमकी दी गई।

अब सवाल यह है कि जब नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने पर लोगों को 10 जून से ही धमकियां मिल रही थीं तो फिर पुलिस ने इसे गंभीरता से क्यों नहीं लिया? अगर पुलिस जांच करती, धमकी देने वाले रहबर NGO के वाइस-चीफ के खिलाफ 10 जून के बाद ऐक्शन ले लेती तो हो सकता है कि 21 जून को केमिस्ट उमेश कोल्हे की हत्या न होती।

जब इंडिया टीवी के संवाददाता राजेश कुमार ने अमरावती की पुलिस कमिश्नर आरती सिंह से यही सवाल पूछा तो उन्होंने यह तो माना कि इस तरह के तीन मामले उनके सामने आए थे, लेकिन यह भी कहा कि 2 मामलों में शिकायत करने से इनकार कर दिया गया था। उन्होंने कहा कि तीसरे केस में शिकायत की गई थी। पुलिस कमिश्नर ने कहा कि उमेश कोल्हे की हत्या और इन धमकियों के मामले में कोई परस्पर संबंध नहीं दिख रहा है।

हैरानी की बात यह है कि पुलिस कमिश्नर के लेवल का एक IPS अफसर यह कह रहा है कि कोई लिखित शिकायत नहीं मिली थी, इसलिए पुलिस ने जांच नहीं की।

मेरा सवाल है कि क्या सांप्रदायिक दंगा कराने की साजिश की कोई शिकायत करता है? क्या आतंकवादी गतिविधियों को बढ़ावा देने की साजिश की कोई शिकायत करता है? इस तरह के मामलों पर नजर रखना और वक्त रहते ऐक्शन लेना, यह तो पुलिस का काम है। लेकिन अमरावती की पुलिस लिखित शिकायत का इंतजार करती रही।

जिन लोगों ने 10 जून को नूपुर शर्मा के समर्थन में पोस्ट लिखी थी, उन्होंने माफी का वीडियो बनाकर धमकी देने वालों को भेज दिया। इसके बाद उमेश कोल्हे ने 14 जून को नूपुर के सपोर्ट में वॉट्सऐप स्टेटस लगाया, और 7 दिन बाद 21 जून को उमेश की बेरहमी से हत्या कर दी गई।

उमेश की जो पोस्टमॉर्टम रिपोर्ट आई है, उसका ब्यौरा सुनेंगे तो रोंगटे खड़े हो जाएंगे। उमेश के गले पर 5 इंच चौड़ा, 7 इंच लंबा और 5 इंच गहरा घाव है। हत्यारे उमेश का सिर काटना चाहते थे लेकिन उनकी पत्नी और बेटे के चिल्लाने के कारण भीड़ इकट्ठी हो गई और वे डरकर भाग गए।

ऐसी भी रिपोर्ट्स हैं कि कातिलों ने इससे पहले 19 और 20 जून को भी उमेश को मारने की कोशिश की थी, लेकिन वे कामयाब नहीं हो पाए क्योंकि उमेश जल्दी दुकान बंद करके घर चले गए थे। उमेश की हत्या के बाद भी पुलिस ने 12 दिन तक यह बात दबाए रखी कि उनकी हत्या नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने के कारण हुई है।

अमरावती की सांसद नवनीत राणा और उनके पति रवि राणा ने घोर लापरवाही के लिए पुलिस अफसरों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की मांग की है। रवि राणा का कहना है कि जब यह हत्या हुई तब उद्धव ठाकरे के नेतृत्व वाली महाविकास आघाड़ी की सरकार थी। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि कांग्रेस की नेता यशोमति ठाकुर, जो कि अमरावती की गार्जियन मिनिस्टर थीं, के कहने पर ही पुलिस ने उमेश की बर्बर हत्या को लूट के लिए किए गए मर्डर का केस बनाने की कोशिश की।

इंडिया टीवी के संवाददाता ने इस बारे में अमरावती की पुलिस कमिश्नर से बात की। उन्होंने कहा, ‘यह एक ब्लाइंड, सेंसिटिव केस था। ऐसे मामलों में बिना ठोस सबूत के कुछ कहना ठीक नहीं होता। FIR में कहीं भी चोरी और लूट की धाराएं नहीं लिखी गई हैं।’ कांग्रेस की पूर्व मंत्री यशोमति ठाकुर का कहना है कि नवनीत राणा और उनके पति रवि राणा बेबुनियाद आरोप लगा रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा, ‘उमेश कोल्हे के साथ जो हुआ वह दुखद है और हत्यारों को कड़ी सजा मिलनी चाहिए।’

इस बीच सोमवार को अमरावती में उमेश कोल्हे के लिए श्रद्धांजलि सभा का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें हजारों लोग आए। किसी तरह की गड़बड़ी रोकने के लिए पुलिस का तगड़ा बंदोबस्त था। श्रद्धांजलि सभा में किसी तरह का हंगामा नहीं हुआ, कोई नारेबाजी नहीं हुई, लेकिन इसमें आए लोगों ने कहा कि इस तरह हत्या करना तालिबानी मानसिकता है। कुछ लिखने या बोलने पर लोगों की हत्या कर दी जाए, लोगों का गला काट दिया जाए, ये सभ्य समाज कैसे सहन करेगा।

यह बात सही है कि जब तक ऐसे लोगों के खिलाफ सख्त कानूनी कार्रवाई नहीं होगी, जब तक समाज ऐसे लोगों का बहिष्कार नहीं करेगा, तब तक इस तरह के मामले नहीं रुकेंगे। अमरावती के बाद सोमवार को नागपुर से भी ऐसी ही खबर आई है। नागपुर में भी 22 साल के एक युवक और उसके परिवार को नूपुर शर्मा का समर्थन करने के कारण धमकियां दी जा रही हैं। युवक ने नूपुर शर्मा के समर्थन वाली एक पोस्ट को फॉरवर्ड कर दिया था, जिसके बाद उसे जान से मारने की धमकी दी गई। लड़के ने इस पोस्ट को तुरंत डिलीट कर दिया था। इसके बाद परिवार की ओर से भी कई बार माफी मांगी गई, लेकिन मुस्लिम समुदाय के कुछ लोगों ने उनके बेटे की तस्वीर को रेड कलर के क्रॉस के साथ कुछ वॉट्सऐप ग्रुप में शेयर किया, जिसका मतलब था कि यह लड़का हमारे निशाने पर है।

इससे डरकर लड़के के परिवार वाले कुछ दिन के लिए नागपुर छोड़कर चले गए। हालांकि अब परिवार तो वापस आ गया है लेकिन पोस्ट फॉरवर्ड करने वाले लड़के को अभी भी अज्ञात स्थान पर रखा गया है। अब नागपुर पुलिस ने इस परिवार को सुरक्षा दिलवाई है, और सीनियर पुलिस अफसरों ने परिवार के लोगों को अपने नंबर भी दिए हैं जिससे कि इमरजेंसी की हालत में वे उन्हें कॉल कर सकें।

एक बात तो साफ है कि अगर अमरावती पुलिस ने लोगों को मिली धमकियों को गंभीरता से लिया होता, तो हो सकता है कि उमेश कोल्हे की जान बच जाती। अगर अमरावती पुलिस ने हत्यारों से पूछताछ में यह पता लगा लिया होता कि उन्होंने सोशल मीडिया पर नूपुर शर्मा को सपोर्ट करने के लिए गला काटा, और इस केस को दबाने की कोशिश न की होती तो शायद उदयपुर में कन्हैयालाल की जान बच जाती, क्योंकि पूरे देश की पुलिस अलर्ट हो जाती।

इन घटनाओं का सीक्वेंस देखने और समझने की जरूरत है। दोनों जगह ‘सिर तन से जुदा’ करने का नारा देने वालों का ग्रुप ऐक्टिव था। पहले अमरावती में लोगों को धमकियां मिलीं, फिर उमेश का गला काट दिया गया। उसके एक हफ्ते बाद उदयपुर में कन्हैयालाल का गला काटने की घटना हुई।

कन्हैयालाल ने पुलिस से शिकायत की थी, जान पर खतरे की आशंका जताई थी, लेकिन पुलिस ने कोई कदम नहीं उठाया । अब जबकि NIA ने दोनों मामलों को अपने हाथ में लेकर जांच शुरू की है तो एक-एक करके सारे सबूत सामने आने लगे हैं। अफसोस की बात यह है कि दो ऐसे बेकसूर लोगों की जानें गई, जिन्हें बचाया जा सकता था।

एक और बात यह सामने आई कि अमरावती में उमेश की हत्या करने वाले उनके अपने जान-पहचान के लोग थे। उदयपुर में भी कन्हैयालाल का गला काटने वालों में उनकी पहचान के लोगों का हाथ था। दोनों जगह दो इंसानों के साथ-साथ दोस्ती का और इंसानियत का कत्ल हुआ।
