On polling day in Nandigram, we showed on India TV, how villagers, both men and women, fearing for their lives, were walking towards the polling booth near their village, with central security forces accompanying them. These men and women named some local Trinamool leaders, who had threatened them not to come out of their homes and vote. This was how a reign of terror had been created in Nandigram, where the Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee is fighting a raging battle to save her political existence.

Till now, we had been only hearing news of Trinamool leaders threatening people not to attend BJP rallies in Bengal, we used to hear how villagers never trusted the local police, but after a long time, people have mustered courage to come out and vote, with central security forces protecting them. Till now, we used to take all accusations made by BJP leaders against TMC about beatings and killings, with a pinch of salt, but after watching the video of poor, innocent villagers narrating how hooligans came to their homes and threatened them not to vote, one has to believe that there indeed is a reign of terror in TMC strongholds.

These villagers told India TV reporter Amit Palit, how TMC leaders came to their homes and threatened them for attending Mithun Chakraborty’s road show. A central security force team went to their village, and brought the villagers to the polling booths so that they could freely cast their votes.

In another visual on Thursday, we showed how a convoy of vehicles led by BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari was stoned in a Muslim-dominated locality. India TV crew vehicle was in the convoy, and it bore the brunt of stoning. The car windshield was smashed, and India TV reporter Pawan Nara was injured. When Suvendu Adhikari came to know about this, he stopped his convoy, came to India TV crew vehicle, and said, “the world must see the jungle raj created by the Begum. There is already a non-bailable warrant pending against local Muslim TMC strongman Sheikh Sufian, they brought outsiders to rig voting at Madrasa booth, there are six phases of poll remaining, and the world should see what is happening here.”

Why was Suvendu Adhikari making allegations against Muslim supporters of TMC in Block-1 of Nandigram? India TV reporter Manish Bhattacharya was present in the area where the stoning took place. Local Muslim TMC supporters told him, on camera,”Suvendu Dada will lose this time, neither Owaisi nor Pirzada will work here, One hundred per cent Muslim votes will go to Didi”.

Mamata Banerjee knows this quite well that Muslim voters in Bengal will support her this time en bloc, because they fear BJP may come to power. She therefore visited Hindu dominated areas of Nandigram, and staged a drama outside a booth, where she sat for more than two hours, rang up the state governor Jagdeep Dhankad, wrote a two-page letter to the EC in her own handwriting, alleging that central security forces were allowing rigging to take place. This was done in full view of national and international media, to garner attention.

Mamata Banerjee says that she had got complaints about Muslim voters not being allowed to vote in Boyal, a Hindu dominated area. India TV reporter Manish Bhattacharya was present, when Mamata reached the booth. Suddenly, a large number of TMC supporters came shouting slogans and started a fracas with BJP workers. There were clashes and fisticuffs, in the presence of Trinamool supremo. Fortunately, a large contingent of central security forces came to the spot and prevented the situation from deteriorating.

It was indeed a dramatic scene when Mamata Banerjee rang up the state governor from a polling booth, complaining against the Election Commission. This was the same governor, whom she had been labelling as ‘BJP agent’ for the last several years.
As news of Mamata waiting outside a booth travelled fast, Election Commission observers reached the scene, and sent this report to the EC control room in Delhi.
This is what the EC reported to the media: “Many sections of media have been covering the incident of alleged gherao of Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal and crowding at Polling Station No. 7 at 210 Nandigram AC today that inter alia resulted in disruption of poll process. General Observer Shri Hemen Das (IAS 2009 batch) and Police Observer Shri Ashutosh Roy (IPS 1994 batch) were asked to go to the spot immediately. The report received from the General Observer at 4.06 pm is as follows: “Good afternoon sir, Polling at PS no 7 ( Boyal Moktab Primary School) is going on smoothly. Hon’ble CM, who is also a contesting candidate, has left the place at about 3.35 pm after staying here for nearly one and half hour.
“It may kindly be noted that polling was not disrupted at any moment. Till now, 702 votes, out of 943, have been polled. It’s 74%. Nearly 3000 people were there when we reached the station. All have left now. Now, me and Police Observer are here besides the authorised police personnel including CAPF. Regards”
“A separate hand written complaint was received from Hon’ble Chief Minister via CEO West Bengal today in the late afternoon. The same has been forwarded to Special General Observer Shri Ajay Nayak and Special Police Observer Shri Vivek Dube under intimation to CEO. They have been asked to send a report by tomorrow 6pm.”
So, much ado about nothing by Mamata. She was creating a drama, even as her party goons were threatening people in villages not to come out and vote.
Mamata’s rival Suvendu Adhikari said, this was clear indication of Mamata losing in Nandigram. He claimed that the majority of voters in Nandigram have voted in his favour. Adhikari questioned how Mamata violated Code of Conduct but sitting outside a polling booth for two hours.
At the same time, in Uluberia and Joynagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing election rallies, said, “the people of Bengal have decided to teach Mamata a lesson this time. He said, nobody can now save Didi from people’s anger. She should read the writing on the wall. Already the indications were there after the first phase of polling. And now, whatever has happened in Nandigram, are indicative that Mamata is losing.”
Modi posed a direct question to Mamata: “Didi, the last phase of nominations still remains. Tell me, are the rumours true that you may file another nomination from a different constituency? You went to Nandigram, the people showed you what they wanted. If you go anywhere else, people are ready (to teach you a lesson).”
Late in the evening, Trinamool Congress spokesman formally denied that the party chief was going to file nomination from another constituency. The spokesman said, “if BJP leaders are so much in love with Bengal, why doesn’t the PM or the Home Minister file a nomination here?” Another Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra tweeted: “Contesting from second seat? Yes, Mr PM. She will, and it will be Varanasi. So go, get your armour on.”
It goes to the credit of India TV reporters, who, on Thursday, showed courage and spoke to villagers who went to booths under central forces’ protection to cast their votes. Our reporters faced stoning from TMC supporters, and one of them was injured. Our third reporter showed how TMC and BJP supporters clashed in the presence of the chief minister.
The Election Commission knew that there would be attempts to capture polling booths, and it, therefore, opted for an eight phase polling and heavy deployment of Central forces. At that time, the first to object to the eight-phase polling was Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Voters speaking on camera clearly described the reign of terror that had been unleashed.
Secondly, all these threats by goons did not work, and the common voters showed courage on the day of polling. This was evident from the glum visage of Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, sitting on her wheel chair outside a polling booth. Never had Mamata appeared so glum. This was not her usual style. She blamed Home Minister Amit Shah and said the central forces acted in a biased manner. She raised doubts about the neutrality of Election Commission.
The question is still open: Will Mamata win or lose in Nandigram?

पश्चिम बंगाल में हिंसा की छिटपुट घटनाओं के बीच विधानसभा चुनाव के दूसरे चरण के लिए मतदान जारी है। इन घटनाओं में बीजेपी और तृणमूल के कई समर्थकों के हताहत होने की खबरें हैं। सबकी निगाहें नंदीग्राम पर टिकी हैं, जहां बड़ी संख्या में लोग वोट देने के लिए मतदान केंद्रों पर कतार में खड़े दिखे। इस सीट पर मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी को कभी उनके वफादार रहे शुभेंदु अधिकारी चुनौती दे रहे हैं।

ममता बनर्जी बुधवार की पूरी रात नंदीग्राम में ही रहीं जहां उन्होंने अपने पार्टी के पोलिंग एजेंट्स के साथ चुनावी तैयारियों का पूरा आकलन किया। उपद्रवी तत्वों को इलाके में दाखिल होने से रोकने के लिए नंदीग्राम की ओर जानेवाली सभी सड़कों को सुरक्षा बलों ने सील कर दिया है। शांतिपूर्ण मतदान सुनिश्चित करने के लिए केंद्रीय सशस्त्र पुलिस बलों की 22 कंपनियों को तैनात किया गया है। कई क्षेत्रों में हिंदू और मुस्लिम मतदाताओं के बीच तनाव भी देखा गया।

यह तनाव इसलिए है वोटिंग से कुछ घंटे पहले नंदीग्राम के वोटर्स को हिन्दू और मुसलमान में बंटा हुआ देखा गया । यहां वोटों का ध्रुवीकरण हो रहा है। बात कितनी बढ़ चुकी है इसका अंदाज आपको इस बात से हो जाएगा कि ममता बनर्जी ने बुधवार को एक सभा में अपना गोत्र बता दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि उनका गोत्र शांडिल्य है जो ब्राह्मणों के शीर्ष 8 गोत्रों में एक है। इससे साफ है कि वह अपना संदेश उन हिंदू मतदाताओं तक पहुंचाना चाहती थीं जिनका झुकाव बीजेपी उम्मीदवार शुभेंदु अधिकारी की ओर है। वहीं, ममता के गोत्र बताने का जवाब में बीजेपी ने जय श्रीराम का नारा लगाया । लगता है प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने ममता की राजनीति का मुहावरा बदल दिया है।

उधर, ममता के गोत्र बताने के बाद AIMIM सुप्रीमो असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने तीखी टिप्पणी की। ओवैसी ने आरोप लगाया कि बंगाल चुनाव में ज्यादातर राजनीतिक दल अब ‘हिंदू कार्ड’ खेल रहे हैं। ओवैसी ने ट्वीट किया, ‘मेरे जैसे लोगों के साथ क्या होना चाहिए जो न शांडिल्य हैं, न जनेऊधारी (राहुल गांधी के लिए) हैं, न किसी भगवान के भक्त हैं, न चालीसा पढ़ते हैं और न कोई पाठ करते हैं? हर पार्टी को लगता है कि उसे जीतने के लिए अपनी हिंदू साख दिखानी होगी। यह अनैतिक, अपमानजनक है और इसके सफल होने की संभावना नहीं है।’

ममता बनर्जी ने अपनी नंदीग्राम रैली में वास्तव में कहा क्या था? उन्होंने कहा था, ‘जब मैं मंदिर गई तो पुजारी ने मेरा गोत्र पूछा। मुझे याद है कि त्रिपुरेश्वरी मंदिर में मैंने कहा था कि मेरा गोत्र ‘मां, माटी और मानुष’ है, लेकिन जब पुजारी ने आज मेरा गोत्र पूछा, तो मैंने कहा, ‘व्यक्तिगत तौर पर मेरा गोत्र शांडिल्य गोत्र है, लेकिन मेरा मानना है कि मेरा गोत्र ‘मां , माटी और मानुष’ है।

ममता के गोत्र बताने पर बीजेपी ने उन पर निशाना साधा। केंद्रीय मंत्री गिरिराज सिंह का गोत्र भी शांडिल्य है। उन्होंने कहा कि ममता उन्हीं की गोत्र की निकलीं लेकिन ममता ने सबसे ज्यादा परेशान अपने ही गोत्र के लोगों को किया। गिरिराज सिंह ने सवाल किया, ‘क्या रोहिंग्या और घुसपैठिये भी शांडिल्य हैं? जिन लोगों ने हिंदुओं का अपमान किया और दुर्गा पूजा जुलूसों पर प्रतिबंध लगाया, वे अब अपने गोत्र का खुलासा कर रहे हैं, क्योंकि उन्हें हार का डर है। शांडिल्य गोत्र राष्ट्र और सनातन धर्म को समर्पित है, वोटों को नहीं।’

ममता बनर्जी ने जब नंदीग्राम में 25 हिंदू मंदिरों का दौरा किया, तो बीजेपी के नेताओं ने आरोप लगाया कि वह एक फर्जी हिंदू हैं, क्योंकि उन्होंने रामनवमी का जुलूस को निकालने की इजाजत नहीं दी थी। ममता ने तब जवाब दिया कि वह एक धर्मपरायण हिंदू हैं और रोजाना चंडी पाठ का जाप किए बिना वह घर से बाहर नहीं निकलतीं।

अब नंदीग्राम के 70 फीसदी हिंदू और 30 फीसदी मुस्लिम मतदाता आज अपना फैसला देने वाले हैं। हालांकि ममता बनर्जी को मुस्लिम वोटों पर पूरा भरोसा है, और कई हिंदू मतदाता भी उनका समर्थन कर सकते हैं, लेकिन ममता उन्हें लेकर निश्चित नहीं हैं। बीजेपी अध्यक्ष जेपी नड्डा ने बुधवार को कहा कि ममता को महसूस हो गया है कि मतगणना के दिन (2 मई को) उनकी हार होने वाली है। उन्होंने कहा, ‘वह जानती हैं कि 2 मई के बाद उनको घर बैठना होगा। यही वजह है कि वह अपना गोत्र बता रही हैं और चंडी पाठ का जाप कर रही हैं। उन्होंने अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से मान लिया है कि बंगाल में भारतीय जनता पार्टी की जीत होगी।’

नड्डा ने कहा, यही वजह है कि ममता ने विपक्ष के अन्य नेताओं को SOS भेजा है। बुधवार को ममता ने सोनिया गांधी, फारूक अब्दुल्ला, नवीन पटनायक, वाईएस जगन मोहन रेड्डी, एमके स्टालिन, अखिलेश यादव, शरद पवार और अरविंद केजरीवाल सहित विपक्ष के 14 बड़े नेताओं को चिट्ठी भेजकर उनसे एकजुट होने की अपील की। अपने पत्र में ममता ने लिखा कि बीजेपी ‘भारत में एक पार्टी का शासन स्थापित करने’ की कोशिश कर रही है, जिसे रोकना ज़रूरी है।

नड्डा ने कहा कि ममता ने अन्य विपक्षी नेताओं को SOS भेजकर पैनिक बटन दबाया है, क्योंकि उन्हें हार का डर सता रहा है। असल में नंदीग्राम तृणमूल और बीजेपी की लड़ाई के सबसे बड़े केंद्र के रूप में उभरकर सामने आया है। ममता बनर्जी को चुनौती देने वाले शुभेंदु अधिकारी अपनी रैलियों में जय श्री राम का नारा लगा रहे हैं, और ममता को इसके मुकाबले में खुद को अधिकारी से भी बड़ा हिंदू साबित करने के लिए अपना गोत्र बताना पड़ा है।

बीजेपी के नेता इस बात से खुश हैं कि उन्होंने ममता बनर्जी को अपना गोत्र बताने को, अपने आपको धर्मपरायण ब्राह्मण बताने को मजबूर कर दिया। बीजेपी इसे अपनी वैचारिक जीत मानती है। बात कुछ हद तक सही भी है क्योंकि इसके पहले हम हर चुनाव में सुनते थे मुस्लिम कार्ड खेला जा रहा है। नेता इफ्तार पाटियां करते थे, मुसलमान मतदाताओं को अपनी तरफ खींचने की कोशिश करते थे। ऐसा पहली बार हुआ है कि सभी पड़ी पार्टियां खुलेआम हिंदू कार्ड खेलने लगी हैं। बंगाल की राजनीति में यह बहुत बड़ा बदलाव है।

इस बात में तो कोई शक नहीं है कि बीजेपी ने बंगाल में बड़े-बड़े नेताओं की कारपेट बॉम्बिंग करके हवा तो बना दी है। इसका असर ग्राउंड पर दिखता भी है। यह सही है कि बीजेपी के पास प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी, जेपी नड्डा, अमित शाह और योगी आदित्यनाथ जैसे कई बड़े स्टार कैंपेनर हैं, लेकिन पार्टी के सामने सबसे बड़ी चुनौती यह है कि उसके पास केंद्र का एक भी ऐसा बड़ा वक्ता नहीं है जो बंगाली भाषा में अपनी बात रखता हो। ऐसे में ममता बनर्जी और अभिषेक बनर्जी बंगाली भाषा, बंगाल के कल्चर और लोकल प्राइड को बड़ा इश्यू बना रहे हैं। बीजेपी के पास कम से कम इसका जबाव मौजूद नहीं है।

अब बिसात पर गोटियां चल चुकी है। अगर ममता बनर्जी नंदीग्राम का चुनाव जीत जाती हैं तो पश्चिम बंगाल की राजनीति में उनका दबदबा और बढ़ जाएगा। बंगाल का चुनाव जीतने के बाद राष्ट्रीय राजनीति में उनका कद बहुत बड़ा हो जाएगा। वह मोदी को चैंलेज देने वाली एक बड़ी नेता बन जाएंगी। लेकिन अगर ममता नंदीग्राम हार गईं तो समझ लीजिए बंगाल भी हाथ से गया, और अगर बंगाल में बीजेपी की सरकार बनी तो मोदी का वर्चस्व और बढ़ जाएगा। पूरे देश में संदेश जाएगा कि नरेंद्र मोदी ने देश की राजनीति का नक्शा बदल दिया। ऐसे में विपक्ष के लिए मोदी और उनकी पार्टी को हराने की सोचना मुश्किल तो हो जाएगा, नामुमकिन भले ही न हो। हालांकि मैं जानता हूं कि ममता फाइटर हैं और इतनी आसानी से हार मानने वाली नहीं हैं। इसलिए 2 मई तक इंतजार करना ही बेहतर होगा।

With reports coming in of several Trinamool and BJP supporters killed and injured in violence, polling is under way for the second phase of assembly polls in West Bengal. All eyes are on Nandigram, where large number of voters turned out in queues to vote. Nandigram is witnessing a clash of personalities – between chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her ex-loyalist Suvendu Adhikari.

Mamata Banerjee stayed in Nandigram the entire night on Wednesday to oversee her party agents preparing for the polls. All roads leading to Nandigram were sealed by security forces, to stop miscreants from entering the area. Twenty two companies of central armed police forces were posted to ensure peaceful polling in Nandigram. There was tension among Hindu and Muslim voters in several pockets.

It appears as if the votes in Nandigram are being polarized. On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee revealed that she belonged to Shandilya gotra, one of the eight top Brahmin gotras. This was apparently a message she wanted to convey to Hindu voters, who were leaning towards BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari. BJP leaders replied with slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to have changed the paradigm of Mamata’s politics in Bengal.

Soon after Mamata revealed her gotra, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi made caustic remarks. Owaisi alleged, most of the political parties were now playing, what he called, the ‘Hindu card’ in Bengal polls. Owaisi tweeted: “What should happen to people like me who aren’t Shandilya or Janeudhari ? (referring to Rahul Gandhi), are’nt bhakts of any gods, don’t recite Chalisa or any Path? Every party feels that it has to show its Hindu credentials to win. Unprincipled, insulting and unlikely to succeed.”

What had Mamata Banerjee actually said at her Nandigram rally? She said, “When I went to the temple, the priest asked my gotra. I remember, at Tripureshwari temple, I had said, my gotra is ‘Maa, Maati aar Manush’, but when the priest asked my gotra today, I said, personally I belong to Shandilya gotra, but I still believe my gotra is ‘Maa, Maati aar Manush’.

The BJP pounced upon Mamata for revealing her gotra. Union Minister Giriraj Singh (himself a Shandilya) questioned: “Are Rohingyas and infiltrators Shandilya too? Those who insulted Hindus and banned Durga Puja processions are now revealing their gotra, because they fear defeat. Shandilya gotra is dedicated to the nation and Sanatan dharma, not to votes.”

When Mamata visited 25 Hindu temples in Nandigram, BJP leaders alleged, she was a fake Hindu, because she did not allow Ramnavami procession to be taken out. Mamata then replied, she was a devout Hindu and never leave her home daily without reciting Chandi Path.

Now, 70 per cent Hindu and 30 per cent Muslim voters in Nandigram are going to give their verdict today. While Mamata is relying on en bloc Muslim vote, there are Hindu voters who may support her, but Mamata is not certain. On Wednesday, BJP President J P Nadda said, Mamata has realized that she is going to lose when the results will be out on counting day (May 2). “She knows after May 2, she will have to sit at home, that is why she is revealing her gotra and reciting Chandi Path. She is indirectly admitting that BJP will win in Bengal”, he said.

Nadda said, this is why Mamata has sent an SOS to other opposition leaders. On Wednesday, Mamata sent a letter to 14 top opposition leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Farooq Abdullah, Navin Patnaik, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, M K Stalin, Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Arvind Kejriwal and others, appealing to them to unite and join hands to stop, what she called, the BJP from “establishing one-party authoritarian rule in India.”

Nadda says, Mamata has pressed the panic button by sending SOS to other opposition leaders, because she is fearing defeat. As Nandigram emerged as the epicentre of the battle between Trinamool and BJP, Mamata’s rival Suvendu Adhikari started chanting Jai Shri Ram slogans at his meetings, and Mamata had to counter this by revealing her gotra, in order to project herself as a more devout Hindu than Adhikari.

BJP leaders are happy that they have at last forced Mamata to reveal her gotra to show herself up as a devout Brahmin. BJP considers this its ideological victory. Till now, in most of the Bengal elections, we used to hear about parties playing the Muslim card. This is the first time that mainstream parties are openly playing the Hindu card. This has brought about a fundamental change in Bengal politics.

BJP has no doubt managed to create a wave in its favour in Bengal elections, by bringing in its top star campaigners like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, J P Nadda and Yogi Adityanath, but the only drawback seems to be the lack of a Bengali speaking orator from the Centre. Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek are making Bengali language and culture, an issue of pride for all Bengalis. BJP has no effective weapon to counter this linguistic challenge.

The die has been cast. If Mamata manages to win the Bengal elections, her stature in national politics is bound to rise. She will emerge as one of the top opposition leaders to challenge Modi. But if she loses Nandigram, and Bengal, Prime Minister Modi will emerge as a leader who has changed the nation’s political map. To defeat Modi and his party will surely become unthinkable, if not impossible, for the opposition. But I know, Mamata is a fighter, she is not going to accept defeat easily. Let us wait till May 2.

पश्चिम बंगाल विधानसभा चुनाव के दूसरे दौर में 1 अप्रैल को नंदीग्राम में वोटिंग होगी। इसके लिए ममता बनर्जी और भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने अपनी पूरी ताकत झोंक दी है। चुनाव प्रचार के आखिरी दिन ममता बनर्जी ने एक रोड शो किया। उन्होंने व्हील चेयर पर बैठकर पदयात्रा का नेतृत्व किया। ममता ने आरोप लगाया कि बीजेपी चुनाव में केंद्रीय बलों का दुरुपयोग कर रही है और तृणमूल समर्थकों को धमकाया जा रहा है। इस दिलचस्प मुकाबले की तस्वीर तो गुरुवार को साफ होगी जब लोग वोट डालने के लिए पोलिंग बूथ के बाहर जमा होंगे।

ममता बनर्जी की छवि एक तुनकमिजाज और गतिशील राजनेता की है। चुनाव के वक्त वो कभी भी एक जगह पर ज्यादा समय नहीं बितातीं लेकिन पिछले तीन दिनों से ममता नंदीग्राम में घिरी हुई हैं। ममता ने कहा है कि वह वोटिंग वाले दिन खुद नंदीग्राम में मौजूद रहेंगी ताकि देख सकें कि कहीं शुभेंदु अधिकारी उनके सियासी पासे को पलट न दें। शुभेंदु अधिकारी एक समय ममता के बेहद करीबी थे और अब घोर विरोधी हो गए हैं। वे इस चुनाव में नंदीग्राम सीट से ममता बनर्जी के लिए बड़ी चुनौती बने हुए हैं।

गृह मंत्री अमित शाह मंगलवार को बेहद आश्वस्त दिखे। नंदीग्राम में शुभेंदु अधिकारी के साथ रोड शो के बाद अमित शाह ने कहा कि ममता इस बार बड़े अंतर से चुनाव हारेंगी और उनकी हार के साथ ही बंगाल में तृणमूल शासन का पतन निश्चित है। अमित शाह जब नंदीग्राम के हेलीपैड पर पहुंचे तो उन्होंने शुभेंदु अधिकारी को गले लगा लिया और आशीर्वाद दिया।

ममता बनर्जी ने प्रचार के दौरान शुभेंदु अधिकारी को गद्दार कहा। उन्होंने लोगों को बताया कि कैसे उन्होंने शुभेंदु अधिकारी और उनके परिवार पर आंख मूंद कर भरोसा किया, उसे मंत्री बनाया लेकिन वह गद्दार निकला। मंगलवार को नंदीग्राम में मंगलवार को अभिनेता मिथुन चक्रवर्ती ने भी बीजेपी के पक्ष में प्रचार किया। मिथुन चक्रवर्ती पहले ही खुद को ‘कोबरा’ कह चुके हैं। उन्होंने ममता की पार्टी को इस बार हराने का संकल्प लिया है।

नंदीग्राम में मंगलवार को शुभेंदु अधिकारी के समर्थकों ने ममता की कारों के काफिले के सामने ‘जय श्री राम’ के नारे लगाए। इससे ममता चिढ़ गईं और उन्होंने वहां मौजूद मीडिया वालों से कहा- ‘पुलिस कहां है? चुनाव आयोग कहां है? गांववालों को कोई सुरक्षा नहीं मिल रही है और आप देख रहे हो। ये कैसा व्यवहार कर रहे हैं? शाम के 6 बज चुके हैं, चुनाव प्रचार का वक्त खत्म हो चुका है और ये लोग यहां पर राजनीतिक नाटकबाजी कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने इन्हें ये सब करने की इजाजत क्यों दी? जबकि कैंपेन का वक्त खत्म हो चुका है। मैं अपने घर जा रही हूं, क्या मैं अपने घर भी नहीं जा सकती? ये लोग कैसे अपमानित कर रहे हैं, गालीगलौच कर रहे हैं? ये सब बाहर के लोग हैं। ये सब गुंडे हैं, यूपी-बिहार से आए हैं और ये सब बदमाश हैं। वो (बीजेपी वाले) डरे हुए हैं और वो मैच हार चुके हैं। उन्हें अपने कार्यकर्ताओं को कंट्रोल करना चाहिए।’

नंदीग्राम जैसे तृणमूल के गढ़ में ममता बनर्जी के खिलाफ इस तरह का प्रदर्शन कल्पना से परे है। नंदीग्राम वह जगह है जहां से ममता ने 10 साल पहले वामपंथियों के खिलाफ अपने विजय अभियान की शुरुआत की थी।

जाहिर है, पश्चिम बंगाल में हालात बदल रहे हैं। तीन-चार महीने पहले जब ममता बनर्जी का काफिला सड़क से गुजर रहा था तो कुछ लोगों ने ‘जय श्री राम’ का नारा लगा दिया था। उस समय ममता गाड़ियों को रुकवा कर उतरीं और नारे लगाने वालों को जेल भेजने की धमकी दी। बीजेपी ने उसे इतना बड़ा मुद्दा बना दिया कि अब लोग ममता बनर्जी के सामने ‘जय श्री राम’ के नारे खुल कर लगा रहे हैं।

पिछले विधानसभा चुनावों में नंदीग्राम में हार-जीत का फासला काफी बड़ा रहा है। 2011 में यहां जीत-हार का अंतर 26 प्रतिशत था। 2016 के विधानसभा चुनाव में शुभेंदु अधिकारी ने इस सीट पर CPI के अब्दुल कबीर शेख को 81 हजार से ज्यादा वोटों से मात दी थी। उस समय शुभेंदु अधिकारी को यहां 1 लाख 34 हजार 623 वोट मिले थे। लेकिन इस बार हालात बिल्कुल अलग हैं। शुभेंदु अधिकारी टीएमसी छोड़कर बीजेपी से चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं और उनका मुकाबला टीएमसी की सर्वेसर्वा ममता बनर्जी से है। ममता बनर्जी अपनी सभाओं में लोगों से बार-बार कह रही हैं कि वे बीजेपी को हराएं। मंगलवार को ममता बनर्जी ने अपनी एक रैली में लोगों से कहा कि एक अप्रैल को बीजेपी को अप्रैल फूल बना दो। उन्होंने कहा, ‘1 अप्रैल को हम वैसे भी अप्रैल फूल, बेवकूफ बनाते हैं। सब वोट तृणमूल को देकर बीजेपी को अच्छे से बेवकूफ बनाइए। ईवीएम में हमारा चिन्ह दूसरे नंबर पर होगा। आने वाले दिनों में नंदीग्राम से ही बंगाल की सरकार बनेगी।’

नंदीग्राम में बीजेपी के नेता और कार्यकर्ता जिस तरह से मेहनत कर रहे हैं, उससे माहौल तो बदला है। नंदीग्राम सीट का इंचार्ज केंद्रीय मंत्री धर्मेन्द्र प्रधान को बनाया गया है। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी नंदीग्राम में 2 रैलियां कर चुके हैं। बीजेपी अध्यक्ष जेपी नड्डा, योगी आदित्यनाथ की चुनाव सभाएं हो चुकी है। गृह मंत्री अमित शाह के दो दौरे हो चुके हैं। अमित शाह ने यहां 3 रोड शो किए और एक जनसभा को संबोधित भी किया। रोड शो में शामिल भीड़ से उत्साहित अमित शाह ने दावा किया कि ‘2 मई, दीदी गई।’ गृह मंत्री ने नंदीग्राम में सोमवार को हुए गैंगरेप की घटना का जिक्र किया, जिसमें 4 लोगों ने एक बीजेपी समर्थक की पत्नी के साथ दुष्कर्म के बाद उसे तालाब में फेंक दिया था।

ममता बनर्जी ने अपने प्रतिद्वंदी शुभेंदु पर चुनाव आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन का आरोप लगाया। ममता ने कहा कि शुभेंदु चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान 30 से 40 वाहनों के साथ घूम रहे थे जबकि चुनाव आयोग की आचार संहिता में साफ कहा गया है कि कोई भी उम्मीदवार 5 गाड़ियों से ज्यादा के काफिले में प्रचार नहीं कर सकता। ममता ने चुनाव आयोग से सवाल किया कि वह बिहार और यूपी के गुंडों को नंदीग्राम में क्यों आने दे रहा है? ममता ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि गृह मंत्री अमित शाह के काफिले में करीब 100 गाड़ियां थीं। ममता ने कहा, ‘हालात ये हैं कि आम लोगों के आने-जाने पर रोकटोक है, लेकिन बीजेपी के नेता गाड़ियों में घूम रहे हैं। मैं लोगों से अपील करती हूं कि 1 अप्रैल को वोट देकर बीजेपी को सबक सिखाएं। बीजेपी को नंदीग्राम से, बंगाल से, बोल्ड आउट कर दीजिए, ग्राउंड से एकदम बाहर कर दीजिए।’

उधर, अमित शाह ने ममता बनर्जी की इस टिप्पणी को बंगाल में ‘आशोल पोरिबोर्तन’ (असली परिवर्तन) की हवा बताया। उन्होंने मीडिया से कहा कि जिस तरह से लोगों का समर्थन मिल रहा है उसके बाद उन्हें पूरा यकीन है कि बंगाल में बदलाव होने जा रहा है। अमित शाह ने कहा-‘ पूरे बंगाल में परिवर्तन करने का सबसे सरल रास्ता है कि नंदीग्राम से ममता को हराया जाए।’

ममता अनुभवी नेता हैं। वह जानती है कि बंगाल में सिर्फ अपील से काम नहीं चलता, इसलिए वह अपने कार्यकर्ताओं में जोश भर रही हैं। बीजेपी और शुभेंदु के समर्थकों से बिल्कुल ना डरने की बात कह रही हैं और अगले ही वाक्य में विरोधियों को डराने की बात भी कह रही हैं। ममता ने अपने समर्थकों से कहा, ‘ये बीजेपी के लोग बाहरी हैं और चुनाव के बाद चले जाएंगे। सेंट्रल फोर्सेज भी चली जाएंगी। बंगाल में तो हम ही रहेंगे। बंगाल की पुलिस ही रहेगी। इसलिए चिंता मत करो।’

ममता के इस कथन का मतलब क्या है इसे नंदीग्राम के लोग खूब समझ रहे हैं। इसके बाद ममता कहती हैं कि अभी तो चुनाव हैं इसलिए ‘दिमाग को रखना है ठंडा-ठंडा कूल-कूल, लेकिन चुनाव के बाद पंडा (छोटे नेताओं) का क्या करना है, ये बंगाल को पता है।’

यहां ‘पंडा’ का मतलब है शुभेंदु अधिकारी और उनका परिवार। ममता कह रही हैं कि चुनाव के बाद अधिकारी का क्या करना है ये बंगाल को पता है। नंदीग्राम में मतदाताओं की संख्या करीब 2 लाख 20 हजार है। इनमें से करीब 62 हजार मतदाता मुस्लिम हैं। ममता बनर्जी को लगता है कि मुस्लिम मतदाता एकमुश्त उनके पाले में आएंगे लेकिन जीत के लिए हिंदुओं के वोट भी चाहिए। यही वजह है कि ममता अब हर सभा में मंत्रों का पाठ भी करती हैं और कलमा भी सुनाती हैं।

अब आप सोच रहे होगे कि बीजेपी पश्चिम बंगाल में इतनी ताकत क्यों लगा रही है? इसका जबाव साफ है, इस बार बंगाल में बीजेपी को एक सुनहरा अवसर दिखाई दे रहा है। यह ऐसा राज्य है जहां आजादी के बाद शायद ही कभी जनसंघ या बीजेपी का जनाधार रहा। करीब तीन-चार साल पहले बीजेपी को लगा कि बंगाल की जनता तोलाबाजी और कटमनी से परेशान है। जनता तृणमूल कांग्रेस के लोकल नेताओं से नाराज है। उनकी बड़ी गाड़ियां और बड़े मकान देखकर हैरान है। बंगाल की जनता ऐसे नेताओं से पीछा छुड़ाना चाहती है और उन्हें सबक सिखाने के लिए विकल्प ढूंढ़ रही है। जब बीजेपी को लगा कि विकल्प न सीपीएम हो सकती है न कांग्रेस, ऐसे में बीजेपी का चांस है। इसके बाद जिस विधानसभा चुनाव में बीजेपी पिछली बार 3 सीटें जीती थीं, उस पूरे चुनाव को जीतने की तैयारी शुरू हो गई। हालांकि बीजेपी के कई कार्यकर्ताओं और समर्थकों को सत्तारूढ़ दल की तरफ से धमकियों और हमलों का सामना करना पड़ा। पंचायत चुनावों के दौरान बीजेपी के कई उम्मीदवारों को पड़ोसी राज्य झारखंड में शरण लेनी पड़ी।

पिछले लोकसभा चुनाव में जब बीजेपी को 18 सीटें मिलीं तो हौसला और बढ़ गया। पिछले 10 साल से ममता एक बात को लेकर हमेशा आश्वस्त थी कि बंगाल के 30 प्रतिशत मुसलमान वोटर पूरी तरह उनके साथ है। लेकिन यहां ममता ने पहली बार तब गलती की जब ‘जय श्रीराम’ के नारे लगे तो अपनी नाराजगी दिखाई। बीजेपी ने ममता बनर्जी को मुस्लिम तुष्टीकरण के नाम पर किनारे कर दिया लेकिन ममता बनर्जी ने इसको ‘चंडी पाठ’ और ‘जय सिया राम’ से काउंटर भी किया। ममता अपनी सभाओं में चंडीपाठ के साथ साथ कलमा भी पढ़ रही है।

इस समय सबसे बड़ा सवाल ये है कि क्या अमित शाह और उनकी टीम बंगाल के मतदाताओं को इस बात के लिए आश्वस्त कर पाएगी कि वो निडर होकर वोट दें? इसीलिए अमित शाह बार-बार कह रहे हैं कि ममता बनर्जी बुरी तरह हारेंगी और बीजेपी 200 से ज्यादा सीटेंगी जीतेगी। ये अमित शाह का दावा है। ममता बनर्जी भी लोगों को ये कहकर डरा रही हैं कि वही वापस आएंगी और ‘गद्दारों’ को सबक सिखाएंगी।

कुल मिलाकर पश्चिम बंगाल का चुनाव अब इस पर आकर अटक गया है कि कौन किसको कितना डरा सकता है और कौन किससे कितना डरता है?

As Mamata Banerjee and BJP prepare for a high-octane battle royale in Nandigram on Thursday (April 1), the lines are clearly drawn. On Tuesday, the last day of campaigning in Nandigram, the embattled chief minister of West Bengal led a road show, sitting on a wheel chair, seeking support of voters, and at the same time, alleged that central forces are being misused by the BJP to intimidate her party supporters. The ultimate test will be seen when voters will line up outside the polling booths on Thursday.

Mamata Banerjee, a hard-nosed, peripatetic politician, who normally never spends much time in one place while in the thick of electioneering, has been cornered in Nandigram for the last three days. She has decided to stay till the end of polling in her new constituency, to ensure that her former disciple-turned-bitter rival Suvendu Adhikari does not turn the tables on her.

Home Minister Amit Shah was at his confident best on Tuesday. After leading a roadshow in Nandigram with Suvendu Adhikari, he predicted that Mamata was surely going to lose by a big margin and this would mark the end of her 10-year-rule in Bengal. When Shah reached the helipad in Nandigram, he hugged and blessed Suvendu Adhikari, who has managed to break the Trinamool citadel in this region.

On her part, Mamata told the people of Nandigram, how she blindly trusted Suvendu Adhikari and his family, made him a minister, and he later turned out to be a traitor. In this melee, entered Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty, who led a roadshow in Nandigram to canvass votes for the BJP. Mithun has already designated himself as a ‘Cobra’ and has vowed to defeat Mamata’s party at the hustings.

On Tuesday, supporters of Suvendu Adhikari chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans in front of the convoy of Mamata’s cars. The irritated TMC supremo told media: “Where is police? Where is the Election Commission? There is no security for villagers. It is already past 6 pm, the electioneering deadline is over, and yet these people are doing political drama. Who allowed these people to do all this here? ..I am returning to my home. Won’t I be allowed to even return to my home? How are they insulting me, abusing me? They are all outsiders, hooligans brought from UP and Bihar. They (BJP) have lost the match, they should control their workers.”

Such scenes of protests against Mamata Banerjee are unimaginable, and that too, in a Trinamool fortress like Nandigram. The place, from where Mamata launched her victorious campaign against the Left, ten years ago.

These are clear straws in the wind. Nearly four months ago, some people had shouted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan in front of the chief minister. A furious CM had stopped her car, she had come out and threatened to send those protesters to jail. BJP made this a major election issue, and its workers never lose any opportunity of shouting this slogan in her presence.

The margins of victory in Nandigram, through the years, have always been big. In the 2011 assembly election, the winning margin was 26 per cent. Five years later, in 2016, the then TMC candidate Suvendu Adhikari defeated his Left rival Abdul Kabir Sheikh by more than 81,000 votes. Suvendu got 1,34,623 votes. This time the situation has completely changed.

Suvendu is contesting on a BJP ticket against his former leader Mamata Banerjee. At her rally on Tuesday, Mamata again asked voters to fool the BJP on April Fools’ Day. “Our symbol is at No. 2 on the EVM, do not forget to press the button. Make them look fools. The next government in Bengal will be formed from Nandigram”, said the chief minister.

BJP has attached the maximum importance to the Nandigram battle this time. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been made in-charge of the campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed two rallies, BJP chief J. P. Nadda and Yogi Adityanath also addressed rallies, Home Minister Amit Shah made two visits to Nandigram, he led three road shows and addressed a rally. After watching the crowds surge at his road show, Shah predicted that Mamata was sure to lose on May 2. The Home Minister referred to a gang rape incident in Nandigram that took place on Monday, in which the wife of a BJP supporter, was raped by four persons and then dumped in a pond.

On her part, Mamata Banerjee alleged that her rival Suvendu was moving around with 30 to 40 vehicles, violating the Code of Conduct limit of 5 vehicles, set by the Election Commission. She questioned how the EC has allowed entry of ‘hooligans’ from states like Bihar and UP to Nandigram. She also alleged that there were nearly 100 vehicles accompanying Home Minister Amit Shah. “The common man is not being allowed to move freely. I have asked people to teach BJP a lesson on April 1. Bowl out BJP from Bengal”, the chief minister said.

Amit Shah interpreted Mamata’s remarks as indicative of the winds of “Asol Poriborton” (real change) flowing in Bengal this time. “The people’s mood is for a change and the easiest way is to defeat Mamata in Nandigrahm”, he told the media.

An experienced campaigner like Mamata Banerjee knows, mere appeals do not work. She is, therefore, trying to boost the morale of her party workers and asking them not to be afraid of Suvendu’s supporters. Time and again, Mamata is telling her supporters that these “outsiders” will leave Bengal after the polls, the central forces will also leave, it is the Bengal police which will remain here, and there is nothing to fear.

The meaning of these remarks is being thoroughly understood by the locals of Nandigram. They know, Mamata is promising them that she and her party will gain an upper hand if it wins the elections. For added measure, Mamata told them: “Thanda, Thanda, cool, cool, Be cool, after the elections, people of Bengal know how to deal with these ‘pandas’(small time leaders)”.

Here, ‘panda’ means Suvendu Adhikari and his family, and Mamata is indirectly telling people how to deal with them after the elections. Out of 2.20 lakh voters in Nandigram, nearly 62,000 are Muslims. Mamata is banking on this vote bank en bloc, but for a win, she needs Hindu votes. That is why, at her rallies, she chanted shlokas and mantras, for Hindus, and also, the ‘kalma’ for Muslims.

The common question that I hear from people is: why is the BJP investing so much energy on Bengal elections? The answer is clear: BJP has sniffed a golden opportunity this time, in a state, where it hardly had a mass base since independence.

Nearly four year ago, the party strategists zeroed in on rampant ‘tolabaazi’ (extortion) and ‘cut money’ (extortion of commissions) by local TMC leaders. The people of Bengal are unhappy when they see local TMC leaders moving around in flashy cars and building swanky homes. There is an undercurrent feeling that the people want these TMC leaders to be taught a lesson.

For teaching them a lesson, the people needed a viable alternative. When the BJP found that the Congress-Left alliance in the last assembly polls was a non-starter, it projected itself as the people’s saviour. Many of its workers and supporters faced threats, intimidations and attacks from the ruling party. During the panchayat polls, many BJP candidates had to take shelter in the neighbouring state of Jharkhand.

It is because of this that the BJP central leadership has sniffed a golden opportunity and has zeroed in on ‘conquering’ Bengal. In the 2019 elections, BJP won 18 Lok Sabha seats, defeating TMC stalwarts.

For the last 10 years, Mamata had been relying on the support that she got from nearly 30 per cent Muslim voters in Bengal. But, she committed a mistake. By objecting to ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan, she gave BJP a handle to corner her on the charge of Muslim appeasement. A shrewd Mamata then countered this by reciting ‘Chandi Path’ (verses in praise of Goddess Durga) at her meetings.

Will Amit Shah and his party be able to convince the voters of Bengal to vote fearlessly this time? Shah is repeatedly telling voters that BJP would win 200 seats this time, so that people can come out and vote without fearing reprisals from TMC workers. Mamata is also telling people that her party will retain power again this time and she would teach a lesson to ‘traitors’.

The battle for Bengal has now come down to this point: which party is capable of intimidating the other, and which party is going to fear the other?

एक तरफ जहां भारत के अधिकांश लोगों ने सोमवार को भीड़भाड़ से बचते हुए अपने परिजनों संग होली मनाई, वहीं उत्तर प्रदेश के मथुरा, वृंदावन, प्रयागराज, शाहजहांपुर में, मध्य प्रदेश के उज्जैन में और महाराष्ट्र के नांदेड़ में हजारों लोगों की भीड़ ने कोविड की परवाह किये बगैर होली का त्योहार मनाया।

सोमवार की रात अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने दिखाया कि कैसे मथुरा, वृंदावन, उज्जैन और प्रयागराज में हजारों भक्तों ने मास्क और सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग के बगैर होली मनाई। ये दृश्य रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाले थे । मैं नहीं कह सकता कि इनमें से कितने भक्त होली खेलने के बाद वायरस को अपने घर ले गए होंगे।

भारत में कोरोना के रोजाना आने वाले मामले 70 हजार के आंकड़े को छूने जा रहे हैं। दिल्ली में बीते 24 घंटों में कोरोना के लगभग 2,000 नए केस आए हैं। कई प्राइवेट अस्पतालों में ICU बेड्स और वेंटिलेटर्स की कमी हो गई है। महाराष्ट्र, मध्य प्रदेश, केरल, पंजाब और उत्तराखंड जैसे राज्य पूरी कड़ाई के साथ महामारी की दूसरी लहर का मुकाबला कर रहे हैं। महाराष्ट्र से सोमवार को 31,643 नए मामले सामने आए, जबकि मध्य प्रदेश में 2,323 नए संक्रमित मिले। पंजाब में भीड़भाड़ को लेकर तमाम सख्ती बरते जाने के बावजूद बीते 24 घंटों में 2,914 नए मामले सामने आए ।

इन आंकड़ों का हवाला मैं इसलिए दे रहा हूं ताकि पाठकों को कोरोना से उपजे गंभीर हालात के बारे में पता चले। यह महामारी यकीनन अभी और फैलने जा रही है क्योंकि सोमवार को कई शहरों में हजारों की भीड़ ने होली का त्योहार मनाया। मुझे दुख है कि बहुत से लोग अभी भी इस महामारी की गंभीरता को मानने के लिए नहीं हैं। मैं पिछले कई हफ्तों से बार-बार कह रहा हूं: कोरोना वायरस खुद आपके घर नहीं आता, आप ही इसे ले कर घर आते हैं, यह आपकी लापरवाही के कारण आपके घर में आता है।

हजारों लोग नाचते, गाते और चिल्लाते हुए होली मनाएं, एक दूसरे पर रंग और पानी फेंकें, तो ऐसे में हमें कोरोना के मामलों में बढ़ोत्तरी देखने के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए। उत्तर प्रदेश में हालात फिलहाल नियंत्रण में हैं। दो सप्ताह पहले तक यहां रोजाना 200 से 300 नए मामले सामने आ रहे थे, लेकिन अब नए मामलों की संख्या 1400 के आंकड़े को भी पार कर चुकी है। 22 करोड़ की आबादी वाले राज्य के लिए ये आंकड़े भले ही चिंताजनक न हों, लेकिन योगी आदित्यनाथ ने पहले ही लोगों को सतर्क कर दिया है। सोमवार को मची होली की धूमधाम को देखकर लगता है कि उनकी अपील का लोगों पर कोई खास असर नहीं हुआ।

सोमवार सुबह से ही मथुरा के बांके बिहारी मंदिर में होली मनाने के लिए हजारों लोगो की भीड़ इकट्ठा हो गई। कुछ ऐसा ही नजारा द्वारकाधीश मंदिर में भी देखने को मिला। यहां सिर्फ स्थानीय लोग ही नहीं, बल्कि देश के दूसरे हिस्सों से भी हजारों भक्त होली मनाने के लिए इकट्ठा हुए थे। हर वीकेंड को दिल्ली एनसीआर, हरियाणा और राजस्थान से लोग बड़ी संख्या में मथुरा और वृंदावन पहुंचते हैं। वहां खुशियां थीं, उल्लास था, लेकिन जो एक बात नहीं थी, वो थी – कोरोना के दिशानिर्देशों के पालन की चिंता ।

प्रयागराज के पुराना चौक में इस बार भी भीड़ लगी, हजारों लोग इकट्ठा हुए, डीजे बजा, डांस हुआ और कपड़ा फाड़ होली खेली गई। वहां न तो किसी ने मास्क पहना था और न ही किसी ने सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग की परवाह की। किसी को यह डर नहीं था कि उन्हें कोरोना अपनी चपेट में ले सकता है। लोग होली की हुड़दंग में डूबे रहे। इस शहर में बीते कुछ हफ्तों में रोजाना 70 से 80 नए मामले सामने आ रहे हैं।

शाहजहांपुर में भी हजारों लोगों ने होली के जुलूस में शामिल होकर एक दूसरे पर रंगों और पानी की बारिश की। जुलूस के साथ-साथ पुलिस और पीएसी के जवान भी लगे हुए थे। यह ‘जूता मार’ होली थी, जिसमें अंग्रेज वायसराय (लाट साहब) के रूप में एक व्यक्ति को भैंसा गाड़ी पर बिठाते हैं और उसे जूते और झाड़ू से पीटते हुए पूरे शहर में घुमाते है। इसके अलावा लोग अंग्रेज शासकों के प्रति आक्रोश को दिखाने के लिए लाट साहब को जूते से मारते है। इसमें खास बात यह होती है कि लाट साहब के बदन पर एक भी कपड़ा नहीं होता है। यह जुलूस स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन के समय से हर साल होली के दौरान निकाला जाता है।

महाराष्ट्र के नांदेड़ स्थित प्रसिद्ध तख्त सचखंड श्री हजूर साहिब में हजारों अनुयायियों ने पुलिस द्वारा बंद किए गए गेट को खोल दिया, और होली और होला मोहल्ला मनाने के लिए गुरुद्वारे के अंदर घुस गए। लाठियां और तलवारें भांज रहे श्रद्धालुओं के हमले में कई गाड़ियों को नुकसान पहुंचा और लगभग 10 पुलिसकर्मी घायल हो गए। श्रद्धालु इस बात से नाराज थे कि उन्हें प्रशासन ने गुरुद्वारे में होला मोहल्ला मनाने से रोक दिया था।

मैं हैरान रह जाता हूं जब लोग पूछते हैं कि महामारी के खात्मे के लिए हमें कब तक इंतजार करना होगा? सिर्फ त्योहार मनाने से महामारी कैसे फैल सकती है जबकि बंगाल, असम, तमिलनाडु और केरल में होने वाली जनसभाओं में लोगों की भीड़ इकट्ठा होने पर कोई पाबंदी नहीं है? क्या हम मंदिर जाना और लोगों से मिलना छोड़ दें? क्या हम कोरोना के चलते जीना छोड़ दें?

मेरा कहना है कि आप सब कुछ कीजिए, लेकिन सावधानी के साथ। हर वक्त इस बात को ध्यान में रखिए कि कोरोना का वायरस आसपास ही कहीं हो सकता है। पहले से ही म्यूटेंट वायरस के अलग-अलग स्ट्रेन तेजी से फैल रहे हैं, और भगवान न करे, इनका अगला निशाना आप हों। होली तो हर साल आएगी और अगर कुछ दिन एहतियात बरत ली, कोरोना की दूसरी लहर से बचे रहे तो अगले साल धूमधाम से सब मिलकर होली मनाएंगे।

मैं आपको बता दूं कि पिछले साल 29 मार्च को देशभर में कोरोना के मरीजों की संख्या 979 थी। उस वक्त पूरे देश में लॉकडाउन लगा हुआ था। पूरे देश में तब तक सिर्फ 25 लोगों की मौत हुई थी। 28 मार्च से लेकर 29 मार्च तक, यानी कि 24 घंटे में कोरोना के कुल 106 नए मामले सामने आए थे।

आज की स्थिति यह है कि देशभर में कोरोना के 5 लाख से ज्यादा ऐक्टिव केसेज हैं। पिछले चौबीस घंटों में करीब 70 हजार नए केस सामने आए हैं। कोरोना से पूरे देश में 1,61,000 से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत हो चुकी है। यदि इसके बाद भी लोग सवाल करने पर उल्टा पूछने लगें कि कहां है कोरोना, तो समझ लीजिए कि महामारी पूरी तेजी से फैलेगी और हालात हाथ से निकलने में वक्त नहीं लगेगा।

यदि लोग धर्म और आस्था के नाम पर कोविड नियमों की धज्जियां उड़ाएंगे, पुलिस पर हमला करेंगे, तो फिर कोई भी प्रशासन क्या कर सकता है? पुलिस क्या कर सकती है? ऐसे लोगों को कोरोना से कैसे बचाया जा सकता है? ये ऐसे सवाल हैं जो हर समझदार भारतीय को परेशान करते हैं।

कोरोना को काबू करने के लिए जिस तरह भारत में काम हुआ, उसकी पूरी दुनिया में तारीफ हुई। भारत को एक आदर्श मिसाल के तौर पर देखा गया। कैसे दुनिया की दूसरी सबसे बड़ी आबादी वाले देश ने बड़े पैमाने पर कोरोना महामारी से निपटने के लिए मैनेजमेंट किया, लाखों लोगों का इलाज कराया और जरूरतमंदों के लिए PPE किट, वेंटिलेटर्स और ऑक्सिजन की कमी नहीं होने दी।

पूरी दुनिया ने देखा कैसे देशव्य़ापी लॉकडाउन लगाकर भारत ने उस कीमती समय का इस्तेमाल महामारी से निपटने के लिए उपकरण बनाने में किया और वायरस के प्रसार को थाम लिया। उसी दौरान अमेरिका, इंग्लैंड, फ्रांस, जर्मनी और इटली जैसे देश महामारी के भयंकर प्रकोप से जूझ रहे थे । जब मामलों की संख्या में कमी आने लगी तो अमेरिकियों ने कोविड प्रोटोकॉल को मानना बंद कर दिया, क्लबों और रेस्तराओं में भीड़ जुटने लगी, क्रिसमस की छुट्टियां मनाने समुद्र तटों पर गए और इसके बाद पूरे देश को महामारी की दूसरी लहर का प्रकोप झेलना पड़ा। महामारी से प्रभावित देशों की लिस्ट में अमेरिका पहले नंबर पर है।

अब हम भी वही गलती कर रहे हैं जो अमेरिकियों ने की। कोविड प्रोटोकॉल की धज्जियां उड़ाकर हम खतरे को खुलेआम दावत दे रहे हैं। हमें पता होना चाहिए कि कोविड वैक्सीन से हमें सुरक्षा तो मिलती है, लेकिन इस बात की कोई गारंटी नहीं है कि आपको संक्रमण नहीं होगा। वैक्सीन सिर्फ आपके शरीर में एंटिबॉडी बना देगी ताकि वायरस आपके ऊपर बहुत ज्यादा असर न डाल सके। वैक्सीन लेने के बाद आपको इलाज के लिए अस्पताल नहीं जाना पड़ेगा और आप घर पर ही ठीक हो सकते हैं।

इसीलिए सबसे बार-बार कहा जा रहा है कि कोरोन से बचने के लिए इन जरूरी नियमों का पालन करें: (1) मास्क लगाइए (2) सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग का पालन कीजिए (3) भीड़ में मत जाइए (4) अपने हाथ साबुन से नियमित अंतराल पर धोएं। खुद को सुरक्षित रखने का यही एकमात्र उपाय है।

कोरोना वायरस गरीब और अमीर, पढ़े-लिखे और अनपढ़ में फर्क नहीं करता। IIM के छात्र मैनेजमेंट में माहिर माने जाते हैं, लेकिन लापरवाही हुई तो वे भी कोरोना की चपेट में आ गए। चेन्नई के फाइव स्टार होटल में 70 से ज्यादा लोग कोरोना पॉजिटिव निकले, और ऋषिकेश के होटल ताज में कोरोना ने कुल 78 लोगों को अपनी चपेट में ले लिया।

हमेशा सावधान रहिए और कोविड नियमों का पालन कीजिए। लॉकडाउन कोई नहीं चाहता, न लोग और न ही सरकार। लॉकडाउन से लोगों की रोजी-रोटी पर असर पड़ता है, देश की अर्थव्यवस्था चरमरा जाती है । पिछले पूरे साल हम सभी को आर्थिक चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ा । लॉकडाउन नहीं लगना चाहिए और मुझे उम्मीद है कि नहीं लगेगा, लेकिन आम लोगों की भी ये जिम्मेदारी है कि ऐसे हालात ही न पैदा करें जिससे लॉकडाउन एक मजबूरी बन जाए।

Even as most of the people in India celebrated Holi with their families and avoided gatherings on Monday, there were thousands who joined huge crowds to celebrate the festival in Mathura, Vrindavan, Prayagraj, Shahjahanpur in UP, Ujjain in MP and Nanded in Maharashtra.

In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Monday night, we showed how thousands of devotees celebrated Holi without masks and social distancing in Mathura, Vrindabad, Ujjain and Prayagraj. These visuals were worrying and I do not know how many of these devotees would have taken the virus to their homes after the celebrations.

The surge in the daily number of new Covid cases is soon going to touch 70,000 in India. There were nearly 2,000 new cases in Delhi during the last 24 hours, with many private hospitals running short of ICU beds with ventilators. States like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab and Uttarakhand are grimly tackling the second wave of the pandemic. 31,643 fresh Covid cases were reported from Maharashtra, while 2,323 new cases were reported from neighbouring MP. Punjab reported 2,914 new cases during the last 24 hours, despite strict enforcement of ban on gatherings.

I am citing these statistics in order to tell readers about the grim scenario that is unfolding as the spike continues unabated. The pandemic is surely going to spread, as many cities witnessed huge crowds of Holi revellers on Monday. I am sad that many people are still unwilling to accept the enormity of this pandemic. I have been repeatedly saying for the last several weeks: Corona virus does not enter your homes invited, it is you who carry the virus to your homes because of sheer negligence.

If thousands of revellers sing, shout and dance while celebrating Holi, throwing colours and water at one another, one should be ready to watch a spike in Covid numbers. As of now, Covid is under control in Uttar Pradesh. Two weeks ago, the daily number of cases was between 200 to 300, but now, the number of fresh cases is in the range of more than 1,400. For a state with 22 crore population, this number may not be worrying, but chief minister Yogi Adityanath has already cautioned people to be on their guard. His appeal fell on deaf ears, if one goes by the revelry on Monday.

Thousands of devotees assembled at the Banke Bihari temple in Mathura on Monday to celebrate Holi. The same was the scene at Dwarkadheesh temple. Not only local residents, but devotees from across the country had come to celebrate the festival. Thousands of people go to Mathura, Vrindavan on weekends from Delhi NCR, Haryana and Rajasthan. There was joy and fervour, but the only thing that was missing was: Covid appropriate behaviour.

At the Purana Chowk in Prayagraj, thousands assembled to celebrate Holi, with DJ music playing at full volume, people dancing amidst a riot of colours and the traditional tearing of clothes took place. No masks, no distancing, no fear of Covid. The revellers let go of themselves in merriment. This city has registered an average daily spike of 70 to 80 cases in recent weeks.

In Shahjahanpur, thousands of people joined a customary Holi procession, throwing colours, water at one another. Police and PAC jawans accompanied the procession. This was ‘joota-maar’ Holi, in which a man without clothes, poses as an English Viceroy (Laat Saheb) sitting on a bullock cart, and he is beaten with shoes by the crowd, to express anger against British rule. This procession is taken out every year during Holi since the days of freedom movement.

In Nanded, Maharashtra, at the famous Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, thousands of devotees broke open the gates locked by police, and barged into the shrine, to play Holi and Hola Mohalla, the traditional Sikh festivals. Several vehicles were damaged, and nearly 10 policemen were injured in the attack by sword and stick wielding devotees. The devotees were angry because they had been stopped by authorities from celebrating Hola Mohalla at the gurdwara.

I am amazed when people ask, how long should we wait for the pandemic to end? How can the pandemic spread by celebrating festivals, if crowds can be allowed at public meetings in Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala? What’s wrong in celebrating the festival with friends? Should we stop going to temples and meeting people? Should we stop living because of Corona?

My answer is: Do whatever you wish, but be very, very cautious. Already different strains of mutant virus are spreading fast, and God forbid, you could be the next target. You can celebrate Holi with gay abandon next year, but you have only one life to live.

Let me tell you: on March 29 last year, the total number of Covid patients in India was 979. At that time, the nation was under complete lockdown. Only 25 people had died on this date last year. There were only 106 fresh cases last year on a single day.

Today, we have more than five lakh active Covid cases. There were nearly 70,000 fresh Covid cases during the last 24 hours. More than 1,61,000 Indians have died of Corona till now. In spite of these terrifying numbers, if people question, where is Corona, I can only say, we are very soon going to watch the pandemic going out of control.

In the name of religion and faith, if people defy Covid regulations and attack police, what can a government do? What can police do? These are questions that make every sane Indian worry.

The world has praised India for tackling the pandemic on an unprecedented scale. India was shown as a shining example, how the second most populous country of the world carried out Covid management on a gigantic scale, providing treatment, PPEs, ventilators and oxygen for the needy.

The world watched how by enforcing a nationwide lockdown, India gained crucial time to manufacture equipment to tackle the pandemic, and arrested the spread of the virus. During those times, countries like the USA, England, France, Germany and Italy were facing the onslaught of the pandemic. When the graph came down, Americans defied Covid protocols, went merrymaking in clubs and restaurants, went to sea beaches during Christmas holidays, and had to face the second wave of the pandemic. The USA continues to be No. 1 in the list of pandemic-hit countries.

We, in India, are treading that dangerous path. By defying standard Covid protocols, we are throwing caution to the winds. We must know that Covid vaccines provides us with protection, but there is no guarantee that you may not be infected. All that the vaccine may do is to create antibodies so that you cannot be struck fatally by the virus. You may not have to go to the hospital for treatment. You can recover at home.

That is way, everybody is being asked to follow these key steps: (1) wear masks in public places (2) keep social distancing and (3) avoid crowded places and (4) wash your hands with soap frequently. This is the only way to keep yourself protected.

Coronavirus does not differentiate between the rich and the poor, between the literate and the illiterate. IIM students are supposed to be super-skilled in management, but even they fall prey to the virus due to negligence. More than 70 people in a 5-star hotel in Chennai, and 78 people in the Taj hotel in Rishikesh fell prey to the virus.

Always be on alert, and follow the Covid protocol. Nobody wants a complete lockdown. It affects jobs, it breaks the back of our economy. All of us had to face financial challenges throughout last year. I still hope a situation will not arise, where lockdown is necessary. But why should we create such a situation where lockdown becomes a fait accompli?

घोर लापरवाही के एक मामले में गुरुवार की आधी रात मुंबई के भांडुप में स्थित 4 मंजिला ड्रीम्स मॉल के टॉप फ्लोर पर चल रहे एक अस्पताल में भीषण आग लग गई। दुर्घटनास्थल से 11 शव बरामद हुए। नगर निगम द्वारा दी गई जानकारी के मुताबिक, इनमें से 2 कोरोना के मरीज थे और उनकी मौत अस्पताल में पहले ही हो गई थी, जबकि बाकी के 9 लोगों की मौत दम घुटने से हुई। महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री उद्धव ठाकरे ने बताया कि इनमें से 7 लोग वेंटिलेटर पर थे, और उनके साथ-साथ 2 और मरीजों को बचाया नहीं जा सका।

यह अस्पताल सरकारी लापरवाही, बेईमानी और बदइंतजामी की बेमिसाल नजीर है। आप जानकर हैरान हो जाएंगे कि 107 बेड का यह अस्पताल एक ऐसे मॉल के टॉप प्लोर पर चल रहा था जिसमें मल्टीप्लेक्स, शॉप्स, खाने-पीने की दुकानें, बैंक्वेट हॉल, रेस्तरां और बार हैं। यह प्रशासनिक अक्षमता का एक जीता-जागता उदाहरण है। सनराइज हॉस्पिटल, जिसे एक कोविड अस्पताल घोषित किया था, उसमें OPD भी थी, ICU भी था और CCU भी था। मॉल में बने इस हॉस्पिटल में मरीजों के लिए वेंटिलेटर और ऑक्सिजन का भी इंतजाम था, लेकिन बस एक चीज नहीं थी। यहां फायर सेफ्टी के इंतजाम नहीं किए गए थे। मुंबई फायर सर्विसेज ने इस मॉल के फर्स्ट और सेकंड फ्लोर के लिए नो ऑब्जेक्शन सर्टिफिकेट नहीं दिया था, लेकिन इसके टॉप फ्लोर पर अस्पताल चलाने की इजाजत दे दी थी।

आग मॉल के फर्स्ट फ्लोर पर स्थित एक दुकान से शुरू हुई और जल्दी ही टॉप फ्लोर तक पहुंच गई। अस्पातल में अग्निशामक यंत्र तो थे, लेकिन आग से उठ रहे धुएं पर काबू पाने के लिए कोई इंतजाम नहीं था। मरीजों के बच निकलने के लिए वहां कोई सुरक्षित रास्ता भी नहीं था।

हैरानी की बात तो ये है कि मॉल के तीसरे फ्लोर पर एक कोविड अस्पताल चल रहा था, और इसके सेकंड फ्लोर पर बने वैंक्वेट हाल में पार्टियां हो रही थी। इस मॉल की पहली मंजिल पर दुकानें गुलजार थीं, जहां रोज सैकड़ों लोग आते थे। कुल मिलाकर कहा जाए तो एक ही छत के नीचे कोरोना के मरीज भी थे, पार्टियां भी होती थीं और लोग शॉपिंग भी करते थे। इतना सब हो रहा था और कोई देखने वाला नहीं था।

जिस वक्त मॉल में आग लगी, उस समय अस्पताल में 78 मरीज भर्ती थे। आग लगने की खबर मिलते ही फायर ब्रिगेड की 22 गाड़ियां मौके पर पहुंचीं। रात भर फायर ब्रिगेड के लोग आग बुझाने के लिए मशक्कत करते रहे। लेकिन आग इतनी जबरदस्त थी कि सुबह तक उसपर काबू पाने का काम चल रहा था। हालांकि फायर ब्रिगेड ने अस्पताल में भर्ती 67 मरीजों को क्रेन की मदद से बाहर निकाला और उन्हें दूसरे अस्पतालों में भेज दिया गया।

मुंबई की मेयर किशोरी पेडनेकर पहले तो यह जानकर हैरान रह गई थीं कि एक मॉल के टॉप फ्लोर पर अस्पताल कैसे चल रहा था। लेकिन जब मुख्यमंत्री उद्धव ठाकरे ने कहा कि मुंबई में कोरोना के मरीजों के लिए बेड और वेंटिलेटर की कमी होने के चलते राज्य सरकार ने मॉल में अस्पताल चलाने की इजाजत दी थी, तब पेडनेकर ने अपने सुर बदल लिए।

ठाकरे ने कहा, ‘कोरोना के मरीजों के इलाज के लिए इस अस्पताल को अस्थाई रूप से इजाजत दी गई थी। हॉस्पिटल का परमिट 31 मार्च को खत्म होने वाला था, लेकिन दुर्भाग्य से इसके पहले ही आग लग गई।’ जहां तक बीएमसी का सवाल है, तो उसने पिछले साल नवंबर में इस मॉल को नियमों के उल्लंघन के लिए नोटिस जारी किया था।

फिलहाल मुंबई पुलिस ने इस मामले में अस्पताल प्रशासन पर लापरवाही बरतने के आरोप में FIR दर्ज कर ली है। मुंबई पुलिस के कमिश्नर ने कहा है कि जो लोग भी दोषी पाए जाएंगे, उनके खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की जाएगी।

ड्रीम्स मॉल 2009 में बना था। इस मॉल में करीब एक हजार दुकानें, 2 बैंक्वेट हॉल और एक अस्पताल हैं। कोरोना अस्पताल शुरू करने के लिए इसे पिछले साल कंडीशनल ऑक्यूपेंसी सर्टिफिकेट दिया गया था। बीजेपी नेता देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने आरोप लगाया है कि मॉल में हॉस्पिटल चलाने की परमिशन करप्शन ने दी। उन्होंने कहा कि BMC का यही सच है, पैसा दो और कोई भी परमिशन ले लो।

फडणवीस ने सरकार को याद दिलाया कि उसने भंडारा जिले के एक अस्पताल में आग लगने के चलते 10 बच्चों की मौत के बाद सभी अस्पतालों के फायर सेफ्टी ऑडिट के आदेश दिए थे। उद्धव ठाकरे ने जवाब दिया कि अस्पताल का तो फायर सेफ्टी ऑडिट था, लेकिन आग फर्स्ट फ्लोर की एक दुकान से शुरू हुई थी।

इस मॉल को 2009 में राकेश वाधवान की कंपनी HDIL ने बनाया था। लेकिन चूंकि मॉल से कोई फायदा नहीं हुआ, इसलिए बिल्डर BMC और दूसरी सिविक बॉडीज का पैसा नहीं चुका पाया। इसके चलते मॉल का बिजली पानी काट दिया गया। इस मॉल में जिनकी दुकानें थीं वे नेशनल कंपनी लॉ ट्रिब्यूनल चले गए। 2016 में NCLT ने मॉल में एक ऐडमिनिस्ट्रेटर नियुक्त कर दिया, लेकिन हालत नहीं सुधरी। इसी बीच बिल्डर ने मॉल में हॉस्पिटल बना दिया, लेकिन शुरुआत में इसे परमिशन नहीं मिली। लेकिन जब महामारी शुरू हुई, तो BMC ने मई 2020 से 31 मार्च 2021 तक मॉल में हॉस्पिटल चलाने की इजाजत दे दी।

NCLT द्वारा नियुक्त किए गए मॉल के ऐडमिनिस्ट्रेटर राहुल सहस्रबुद्धे ने खुलासा किया कि वह फायर सेफ्टी से जुड़ी कमियों की ओर इशारा करते हुए BMC और फायर डिपार्टमेंट को चिट्ठियां लिख-लिखकर थक गए थे। उन्होंने कहा कि यदि उनकी चिट्ठियों पर ऐक्शन हुआ होता तो आज यह दिन न देखना पड़ता।

BMC की इजाजत से मॉल में हॉस्पिटल खुल जाए, और इसमें न फायर सेप्टी का इंतजाम हो, न पावर बैकअप की सही व्यवस्था हो, न इमरजेंसी एक्जिट के रास्ते हों तो ऐसे में लोग किसे दोष देंगे? मुख्यमंत्री ने तो कह दिया कि कोरोना की महामारी के चलते मॉल में हॉस्पिटल की चलाने की इजाजत दे दी गई, लेकिन जिन लोगों की दुकानें जल गई, जिनके परिवार वाले मौत का शिकार हो गए, उन्हें कौन जवाब देगा? HDIL के मालिक का कनेक्शन PMC बैंक घोटाले से रहा है, और महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने कोरोना महामारी के दौरान भी उनके परिवार के लोगों को घूमने के लिए महाबलेश्वर जाने की इजाजत दी थी।

यही वजह है कि इस मामले पर अभी जमकर सियासत होगी, और जब इल्जाम लगेंगे तो मुख्यमंत्री उद्धव ठाकरे को सफाई देना मुश्किल हो जाएगा।

In a case of gross negligence, a devastating fire swept through a hospital located on the top floor of a four-storey Dreams Mall in Bhandup, Mumbai on Thursday midnight. Eleven bodies were recovered, and according to the municipal corporation, two of them were Covid patients who had already died in hospital, while the remaining nine died of asphyxiation. Seven of them were on ventilators and along with the other two patients, they could not be saved, said Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

This is a clear case of neglect, maladministration and bungling. The very fact that a 107-bed hospital was running on the top floor of a mall that housed a multiplex, shops, eateries, banquet halls, restaurants and bars, speaks for itself. It is a shining example of administrative incompetence. The Sunrise hospital, declared a Covid hospital, had an OPD, ICU and an CCU. There were ventilators and oxygen for patients inside the hospital, except for one thing. There were no fire safety precautions. Mumbai Fire Services had not given No Objection Certificate for the first and second floors, but had given permission to run a hospital on the top floor.

The fire started from a shop on the first floor and the blaze soon spread to the top floor. There were fire extinguishers in the hospital, but there were no equipment to tackle smoke coming out from the blaze. There was no safe passage for patients to escape.

It is astonishing that a Covid hospital was running on the top floor, and parties were going on inside banquet halls on the second floor. Hundreds of people used to visit the banquet halls, shops and eateries daily. In a nutshell, under one roof there were Corona patients, partygoers and shoppers. This is the height of negligence.

At the time of blaze, there were 78 patients inside the hospital. Twenty two fire engines rushed to the spot to battle the blaze. Even 36 hours after the blaze, on Saturday morning, cooling operations were still on. 67 patients have been shifted to other hospitals.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, who earlier said that she was surprised to find how a hospital was functioning on the top floor of a mall, changed her view, when Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray revealed that the state government had given permission for the Covid hospital because there was shortage of beds and ventilators for Covid patients in Mumbai.

“The hospital was temporarily allowed to treat Covid patients. The hospital’s permit would have expired on March 31, but the blaze occurred before that”, Thackeray said. The BMC, on its part, had issued a notice to the mall for flouting norms in November last year.

As of now, Mumbai Police has filed an FIR against the hospital for causing deaths due to negligence, and the city police chief has promised to take action against the guilty.

Dreams Mall was built in 2009. It has nearly 1,000 shops, two banquet halls and a hospital. The hospital was given conditional occupancy certificate last year due to Covid pandemic. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis has alleged that the mall was allowed to house a hospital because of corrupt underhand dealings in the BMC.

Fadnavis reminded the government that it had ordered a fire safety audit of all hospitals after 10 children due to a hospital blaze in Bhandara district. Uddhav Thackeray replied that there was indeed a fire safety audit of the hospital, but the blaze had started from a shop on the first floor.

The mall was built by Rakesh Wadhawan’s HDIL in 2009. But since the mall did not make profit, the builder failed to pay charges to BMC. Water and electricity supply to the mall was disconnected. The shop owners approached the National Company Law Tribunal. In 2016, the NCLT appointed an administrator for the mall. By this time, the builder had built a hospital on the top floor of the mall. Initially, the hospital did not get permission, but when the pandemic started, the authorities granted conditional permission from May last year till March 31 this year.

The NCLT-appointed administrator of the mall, Rahul Sahasrabuddhe revealed that he had wrote several letters to BMC and Fire Services pointing out to fire safety deficiencies. The blaze could have been avoided, he said.

Whom will people blame, if a hospital is opened inside a mall, without any fire safety or fire emergency exit? The chief minister may say that the permission was given because of the Covid pandemic, but who will reply to the families of those who died in the blaze, and to the shop owners who lost their properties? The HDIL owner was involved in the PMC bank scam, and its family members were specifically allowed by authorities during Covid pandemic last year, to visit Mahabaleshwar.

So, it is a ripe case for political parties to start blaming one another and CM Uddhav Thackeray will have a tough time in giving logical answers.

देशभर में गुरुवार को कोरोना के 59,117 ताजा मामले दर्ज किए गए जो पिछले 159 दिनों में सबसे ज्यादा है। अकेले महाराष्ट्र से एक दिन में कोरोना के 35,952 नए मामले सामने आए। देशभर में गुरुवार को कोरोना से संक्रमित 255 मरीजों की मौत हो गई जबकि पिछले दो दिनों में एक्टिव मामलों की संख्या 52 हजार से ज्यादा बढ़ गई है।

पिछले पांच दिनों में एक्टिव मामलों की संख्या में एक लाख की बढ़ोतरी के साथ ही कोरोना के कुल एक्टिव मामलों की संख्या अब 4 लाख का आंकड़ा पार कर चुकी हैं। ऐसी खबरें हैं कि कोरोना महामारी की यह दूसरी लहर अप्रैल के अंत तक अपने पीक पर आ सकती है और मई महीने तक इसका प्रकोप जारी रह सकता है। महाराष्ट्र, गुजरात (जहां गुरुवार को 1,961 नए मामले दर्ज किए हैं), पंजाब, कर्नाटक और छत्तीसगढ़ में महामारी तेजी से फैल रही है। हम एक बार फिर पिछले साल वाली स्थिति में पहुंच गए हैं।

इंडिया टीवी के रिपोर्टर्स ने अहमदाबाद, सूरत, भोपाल, चंडीगढ़ और अन्य शहरों में इस महामारी के फैलने के पीछे की वजहों का पता लगाने की कोशिश की। आखिर हुआ क्या कि इतनी बड़ी संख्या में लोग कोरोना पॉजिटिव हो गए? रिपोर्टर्स ने जो बातें बताई, वो वाकई में हैरान करने वाली हैं।

सबसे ज्यादा चौंकाने वाली खबर देश के सबसे मशहूर मैनेजमैंट संस्थान, इंडियन इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ मैनेजमेंट (IIM) अहमदाबाद से आई। अपने मैनेजमेंट स्किल्स के कारण दुनिया में जिन लोगों का लोहा माना जाता है, वही संस्थान कोरोना मैनेजमेंट में फेल हो गया।

हमारे रिपोर्टर निर्णय कपूर ने बताया कि आईआईएम के पांच छात्रों के कारण ही पूरा इंस्टीट्यूट कोरोना का हॉटस्पॉट बन गया। असल में इन पांचों छात्रों को 16 मार्च को ही पता लग गया था कि वे कोरोना पॉजिटिव हैं। चूंकि उस वक्त इन छात्रों की परीक्षाएं चल रही थीं और इन्हें लगा कि अगर उन्होंने कोरोना पॉजिटिव होने की बात बताई तो परीक्षाएं स्थगित हो सकती हैं। इसलिए इन छात्रों ने किसी को कोरोना संक्रमण की जानकारी नहीं दी।

ये पांचों छात्र पूरे कैंपस मे घूमते रहे, लोगों से मिलते रहे और वायरस को फैलाते रहे। जब दूसरे छात्रों में भी कोरोना के लक्षण दिखने लगे तो मास टेस्टिंग हुई। इस टेस्ट में 22 छात्र और एक फैकल्टी मेंबर की रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आ गई। इसके बाद आईआईएम अहमदाबाद को कोरोना का हॉटस्पॉट घोषित कर दिया गया। लेकिन सवाल ये था कि जब पांच छात्रों की रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आई तो फिर प्रशासन को इसकी जानकारी क्यों नहीं मिली? प्रशासन ने इन छात्रों को आइसोलेट क्यों नहीं किया? दरअसल, जिन पांच छात्रों की रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आई थी उन छात्रों ने अपनी जांच प्राइवेट लैब में कराई थी। इन छात्रों ने अपना पता आईआईएम अहमदाबाद लिखाने के बजाय होम स्टेट का पता लिखवाया था। इसलिए नगर निगम के अधिकारी इन छात्रों को आईआईएम में ट्रेस नहीं कर पाए।

अहमदाबाद नगर निगम के डिप्टी हेल्थ ऑफिसर (उप स्वास्थ्य अधिकारी) डॉ. मेहुल आचार्य ने बताया कि जिन पांच छात्रों को 16 मार्च को कोरोना पॉजिटिव होने का पता चला था वे सभी छात्र 12 मार्च को नरेंद्र मोदी स्टेडियम में इंडिया और इंग्लैंड का टी-20 मैच देखने गए थे। चूंकि बड़ी संख्या में लोग मैच देखने गए थे इसलिए नगर निगम अधिकारियों के लिए यह पता लगा पाना व्यवहारिक तौर पर असंभव था कि कौन लोग कोरोना से संक्रमित हो सकते हैं।

गुजरात के एक और जिले साबरकांठा के एक आवासीय स्कूल में दो वॉर्डन की वजह से 39 बच्चे कोरोना के शिकार हो गए। साबरकांठा के राजेंद्रनगर में सहयोग नाम की संस्था की तरफ से यहां गरीब बच्चों को पढ़ाया जाता है। यहां दो वॉर्डन की कोरोना रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आने के बाद सभी 292 बच्चों का कोरोना टेस्ट करवाया गया। जब इनकी रिपोर्ट आई तो 39 बच्चे कोरोना पॉजिटिव निकले। अब इसमें किसे दोषी ठहराया जाए? वॉर्डन भी हॉस्टल में रहते हैं और बच्चे भी। कोई बाहर नहीं जाता तो फिर हॉस्टल में कोरोना लेकर कौन आया? संस्था के लोगों का कहना है कि सब्जी, राशन, दूध जैसी चीजों की सप्लाई करने वाले आते-जाते हैं। कोरोना उन्हीं के जरिए वॉर्डन तक और फिर बच्चों तक पहुंचा होगा। अब ट्रेसिंग हो रही है लेकिन कोरोना की कड़ियां मिलेंगी, ये कहना मुश्किल है।

उधर, सूरत में एक साथ 34 ऑटो ड्राइवर कोरोना पॉजिटिव निकले । इतने सारे ऑटो ड्राइवर्स के एक साथ कोरोना पॉजिटिव निकलने की वजह के बारे में जो जबाव मिला वो परेशान करने वाला है।असल में नगर निगम ने कोरोना को फैलने से रोकने के लिए शहर में लोकल बसों पर रोक लगा दी। बसें तो बंद हो गईं लेकिन सड़कों पर भीड़ कम नहीं हुई। बसों से सफर करनेवाले लोग ऑटो की सवारी करने लगे। ऑटो वालों की चांदी हो गई। जिस ऑटो में पहले 2 सवारियां बैठती थी अब उसमें पांच-छह सवारियां एक साथ जाने लगी और फिर तेजी से कोरोना फैला। यात्रियों से ये वायरस ऑटो ड्राइवर्स तक पहुंचा। और फिर ऑटो ड्राइवर्स कोरोना के कैरियर बन गए। सूरत में 741 बसें चलती थीं जिनमें करीब ढाई लाख से ज्यादा लोग रोजाना यात्रा करते थे। बस सेवा बंद होने की वजह से ऑटो में यात्रियों की संख्या बढ़ने लगी और इस वजह से कोरोना भी फैलने लगा।

जाहिर है कि लोगों की लापरवाही के कारण महामारी फैल रही है। कोरोना को रोकने के लिए सरकारें बसें बंद करेगी तो लोग ऑटो से चलेंगे। अगर सरकार पार्क बंद करेगी तो लोग सड़कों पर घूमेंगे। अगर सरकार मास्क नहीं लगाने पर जुर्माना लगएगी तो लोग मास्क को मुंह पर ऐसे रखकर चलेंगे जिससे सिर्फ चालान से बच जाएं। अगर यही रवैया रहेगा तो फिर कोरोना से बचना मुश्किल है। कोरोना के लक्षण लगातार बदल रहे हैं। कोरोना के मरीज को जुकाम, बुखार या फिर खांसी हो, ये जरूरी नहीं है। हो सकता है कि कोरोना के मरीज में कोई लक्षण न हो। जिसे आप बिल्कुल स्वस्थ समझ रहे हैं, हो सकता है वही आपको कोरोना का गिफ्ट दे जाए। ऐसा मैं इसलिए कह रहा हूं क्योंकि भोपाल और नागपुर जैसे शहरों में यही हो रहा है। यहां कोरोना के 80 प्रतिशत मरीज ऐसे हैं जिनमें कोरोना का कोई लक्षण नहीं है।

भोपाल में गुरुवार को कोरोना के करीब 400 मरीजों का पता चला लेकिन चौंकानेवाली बात ये है कि इनमें से 50 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा मरीज बिना किसी लक्षण (एसिम्पटोमैटिक) के हैं। ये दूसरे लोगों के लिए बड़ा खतरा बन रहे हैं।चूंकि वो खुद नहीं जानते कि उन्हें कोरोना है इसलिए जब दूसरे लोगों से मिलते हैं तो उन्हें भी वायरस से संक्रमित कर रहे हैं। उधर, नागपुर में भी कोरोना तेजी से फैल रहा है। गुरुवार को यहां साढ़े तीन से हज़ार से ज्यादा मामले सामने आए। आपको जानकर हैरानी होगी कि अकेले नागपुर में 2800 कोरोना मरीज़ ऐसे मिले जिनमें कोई लक्षण नहीं था। मुंबई में भी हालात खराब हैं। यहां रोजाना 5,500 से ज्यादा नए मामले सामने आ रहे हैं। मुंबई की मेयर किशोरी पेडणेकर ने बताया कि अगर किसी बिल्डिंग में कोरोना के मरीज निकलते हैं तो बिल्डिंग को सील किया जाता है। इससे बचने के लिए लोग कोरोना के लक्षण होने के बाद भी टेस्ट नहीं कराते और अपनी बीमारी को छुपाते हैं। इसके कारण कोरोना फैल रहा है।

बैंगलुरू में भी कमोबेश मुंबई जैसे ही हालात हैं। कोरोना के कुल 2300 मरीजों में से 1400 मरीज तो अकेले बेंगलुरु अर्बन में मिले हैं। इंडिया टीवी रिपोर्टर टी राघवन ने एक्सपर्ट्स, डॉक्टर्स और फिर नगर निगम के अधिकारियों से बात की। ज्यादातर लोगों ने एक ही कारण बताया और कहा कि बैंगलुरु कोरोना वायरस महाराष्ट्र और केरल से पहुंचा है। इन राज्यों से आनेवाले कई लोगों में कोरोना के लक्षण नहीं थे और इन्होंने अपने घरों में पार्टी की और..सोशल गैदरिंग का हिस्सा बने, इससे पूरे शहर में वायरस फैलता चला गया। बैंगलुरु में कोरोना के 70 प्रतिशत मामले अपार्टमेंट में रहने वाले लोगों में पाए गए हैं।

दिल्ली में भी यह वायरस तेजी से पांव पसार रहा है। एक हफ्ते पहले यहां प्रतिदिन कोरोना के मामले मुश्किल से 300 के करीब आ रहे थे लेकिन गुरुवार को 1500 से ज्यादा मामले सामने आए। ज्यादातर मामले ऐसे हैं जिनमें मरीजों में कोई लक्षण नहीं है। लेकिन समस्या ये है कि पहले कोरोना के मरीजों को सांस लेने में तकलीफ, गले में दर्द, जुकाम, बुखार जैसे लक्षण होते थे लेकिन अब पेट दर्द, उल्टी, डायरिया जैसे लक्षणों वाले मरीज भी कोरोना पॉजिटिव निकल रहे हैं।

राजीव गांधी सुपरस्पेशयलिटी अस्पताल के निदेशक डॉ. बी एल शेरवाल का कहना है कि देश में कोरोना के नए स्‍ट्रेन के मरीज तेजी से बढ़ने लगे हैं। कोरोना के नए मामले सामने आने के साथ ही कोरोना संक्रमित मरीजों की संख्‍या एक बार फिर तेजी से बढ़ने लगी है। कोरोना का नया संक्रमण सीधे गले, फेफड़े और दिमाग पर असर कर रहा है, जिसके कारण मरीज में उल्‍टी, बेचैनी और पेट दर्द और डायरिया जैसी शिकायत देखने को मिल रही है।

कोरोना के तेजी से फैलने का सबसे बड़ा कारण लापरवाही है। इसकी वजह ये है कि लोगों में कोरोना का डर खत्म हो गया है। इंडिया टीवी रिपोर्टर पुनीत परिंजा ने गुरुवार को पंजाब के आनंदपुर साहिब में होला मोहल्ला के लिए आए श्रद्धालुओं से बात की। यहां बड़ी संख्या में लोग आ रहे हैं लेकिन न तो किसी चेहरे पर मास्क है और न कोई सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग का पालन कर रहा था। सवाल पूछने पर अधिकांश लोगों का जबाव था कि कोरोना सिर्फ अफवाह है, हकीकत में कोरोना कुछ नहीं है। इनमें से कई लोगों ने यह सवाल किया कि नेताओं की रैलियों में हजारों लोग हिस्सा लेते हैं, किसी को कोरोना हुआ क्या? इनमें से एक ने कहा- ‘कोरोना सरकारी ड्रामा है।’

अब बताइए, इस बात का कोई क्या जवाब दे कि कोरोना है ही नहीं? कोई कह रहा है कि ये पॉलिटिकल चाल है। इस तरह की बातें खतरे को और बढ़ाती हैं। ये सही है कि बंगाल और असम में रैलियां हो रही हैं और कोरोना के मामले बढ़ने की खबरें वहां से नहीं आईं। लेकिन ये भी सही है कि केरल में जब रैलियां हुई तो कोरोना के तेजी से बढ़ने की खबरें आईं। कुछ लोग कह सकते हैं कि जिन लोगों को कोई दिक्कत नहीं है उनसे दूरी बनाने की क्या जरूरत? कोई ये कह सकता है कि जब वैक्सीन आ गई है तो कोरोना से डरने की क्या जरूरत है?

मैं आपसे यही कहूंगा कि कोरोना का खतरा नया और बड़ा है। इस नए खतरे के बारे में अभी ज्यादा जानकारी नहीं है। ये नया म्यूटेशन है, दूसरी लहर है, इसलिए सावधानी बरतने की और ज्यादा जरूरत है। हमारे रिपोर्टर्स ने अपनी जान पर खेलकर इतने सारे शहरों से, हॉटस्पॉट से ये रिपोर्ट्स भेजी है ताकि लापरवाही करने वालों की आंखें खोली जा सके। आपने देखा है कि हर जगह का किस्सा अलग है। हर जगह कोरोना फैलने की वजह अलग है। लेकिन एक बात कॉमन है और वो है लापरवाही। जहां-जहां लोगों ने कोरोना वायरस को गंभीरता से नहीं लिया वहां यह तेज ऱफ्तार से फैला है। जहां लोग डर गए वहां लोग जी गए।

पूरी दुनिया मान रही है कि जब तक वैक्सीनेशन नहीं हो जाता तब तक बहुत सावधानी रखने की जरूरत है। मास्क लगाना जरूरी है। दो गज की दूरी जरुरी है। वरना, आप अपने साथ-साथ दूसरों की जिंदगी को भी खतरे में डालेंगे।

India on Thursday recorded the highest single-day count of fresh Covid cases (59,117) in the last 159 days, with Maharashtra leading with 35,952 new cases on a single day. On Thursday, 255 Covid patients died in India, while active cases have increased by over 52,000 in the last two days. The total number of active Covid cases has now crossed 4 lakhs, the fastest ever rise by one lakh in the last five days.

There are reports that the second wave of Covid pandemic may peak towards the end of April, and it may last till May. The pandemic is spreading fast in Maharashtra, Gujarat (which registered 1,961 new cases on Thursday), Punjab, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh. So, we are back to square one, where we were last year.

India TV reporters in Ahmedabad, Surat, Bhopal, Chandigarh and other cities tried to find out the reasons behind the spread of the pandemic. The most shocking report came from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. This institute, reputed for its management skills across the world, failed in Covid management. Our reporter Nirnay Kapoor reported that the IIM became a Covid hotspot because of five of its students. By March 16, all the five students knew they had been infected with Coronavirus, but they concealed this information because they did not want exams to be postponed.

These five students freely mixed with others, became super spreaders, and, by the time, more students were found Covid positive, mass testing was ordered. Twenty two students and a faculty member were found Covid positive. The question then arose why the top management failed to know that five of the students were Covid positive. It so happened that these five students got themselves tested from private labs, and instead of giving their IIM hostel address, they gave addresses of their home states. Because of this, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation failed to trace the students in IIM.

Dr Mehul Acharya, Deputy Health Officer of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, said, the five IIM students had gone to Narendra Modi stadium on March 12 to watch the India versus England cricket match. Four days later, they were found Covid positive. Since a large crowd went to watch the match, it is now practically impossible for municipal authorities to trace those who could have been infected.

In Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district, two wardens at a residential school for poor children run by Sahyog in Rajendra Nagar were infected with Covid virus. When mass testing of all the 292 school children was carried out, it was found that 39 of them were Covid positive. The question arose, how the two warden got infected, as they were staying in the residential school. It could be because of milk, vegetable and other essentials that were brought it. Tracing the vendors is now a tough task.

There was another instance of 34 auto drivers in Surat found Covid positive. On checking, it was found that since the municipal corporation had banned plying of buses inside the city, people were using autos for travel, and this led to spreading of the virus. In order to rake in money, the auto drivers, instead of taking two passengers, were taking more than five at a time, and the virus was spreading fast. Nearly 2.5 lakh people used to travel in 741 buses in Surat, but after the bus service was banned, the autos became the carriers of the virus.

Clearly, the pandemic is spreading because of negligence on part of the people. If the government stops plying of buses, people pile into autos for travel, if authorities close down parks, people travel on roads, if people are fined for not wearing masks, they carry masks but do not cover their faces. Now that different strains of Coronavirus have mutated, most of the people infected do not show any sign of cough or fever. Nearly 80 per cent people found positive in Nagpur and Bhopal were asymptomatic.

In Bhopal, nearly 400 people were found positive on Thursday, out of them more than half were asymptomatic. Asymptomatic Covid patients are a riskier lot. They can unknowingly spread the virus. In Nagpur, more than 206 Covid patients were found carrying the mutant strains of the virus. Out of 3,500 people found Covid positive in Nagpur on Thursday, nearly 2,800 people had no symptoms. The same is the case in Mumbai, where more than 5,500 new cases are being reported daily. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar says, people are unwilling to go in for Covid tests, because they fear that if they are found Covid positive, their apartments could be sealed.

The situation is also alarming in Bengaluru. Out of the 2,300-odd people found positive, more than 1,400 were from Bengaluru Urban. India TV reporter T. Raghavan spoke to experts, doctors and municipal officers. Most of them blamed people arriving from Maharashtra and Kerala for bringing the virus. They took part in social gatherings and parties, and spread the virus. Nearly 70 per cent cases have been found among people living in apartments. Most of these people took parts in weddings and social gatherings.

In Delhi, too, the virus is spreading fast. A week ago, the daily spike was hardly 300 cases, but on Thursday, it topped 1,500. Most of the cases are symptomatic, but the problem is: instead of having earlier symptoms like cough and cold, the new symptoms are nausea, stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Dr B. L. Sherwal, director of Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital said, the number of Covid patients having new strains of the virus is increasing fast. The new variant is affecting lungs, neck and brain, and because of this, patients are complaining of stomach ache, diarrhoea and vomiting.

The biggest culprit behind the spread of pandemic is: negligence. India TV reporter Puneet Parinja spoke to devotees who had assembled for Hola Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib on Thursday. Most of them were moving in crowds, and were not wearing masks. Speaking on camera, most of the devotees said, the spread of the pandemic is a rumour, there was nothing like a Covid disease. Many of them questioned how thousands of people attend rallies addressed by leaders, and are yet free from the virus. “Corona is a sarkari drama”, one of them said.

How can one respond to such a ludicrous remark? If people start saying, Corona is a political “stunt” and “drama”, the dangers are obvious. It is true that huge election rallies are being held in Bengal and Assam, from where spike in Covid cases has not come. But it is also a fact that the pandemic is viral in Kerala, where election rallies are being held. Some people may say, where is the need to fear Corona, now that people are taking vaccines? My reply to them is: The virus is fast mutating into different strains, which are more lethal. We must be on our guard or ignore the warnings at our own peril.

This is the second wave of Covid pandemic, and could be more dangerous. We do not even know the details about the new variants of mutations that are taking place. Our reporters risked their lives to report from these Covid hotspots, so that we can open the eyes of those who are adopting a cavalier and negligent attitude. Now that your have seen their reports, one thing is clear: Negligence is the main cause behind the spread of the virus. In places, where people did not take the warnings seriously, the pandemic spread very fast. People across the world agree that vaccination is a must to protect yourself from the virus, wearing of masks and social distancing are a must, otherwise you will be putting your life and the lives of your near and dear ones at stake.

बुधवार को भारत में कोरोना वायरस से संक्रमण के 53,364 मामले सामने आए जो कि पिछले 5 महीनों में एक दिन में आए मामलों की सर्वाधिक संख्या है। इसी के साथ देश के 18 राज्यों में मिले 771 वैरिएंट्स में ‘डबल म्यूटेंट’ का पता लगने की खबरें भी सामने आई हैं। नेशनल सेंटर फॉर डिजीज कंट्रोल के डायरेक्टर ने इस बारे में जानकारी देते हुए कहा कि जिन राज्यों में नए मामलों में उछाल देखने को मिला है वहां एक ऐसा म्यूटेशन प्रोफाइल पाया गया है जो पिछले 6 से 8 महीनों में पाए गए मूल म्यूटेंट से अलग है।

इसकी सबसे ज्यादा डराने वाली बात यह है कि कोरोना वायरस के ये डबल म्यूटेंट हमारे इम्यून सिस्टम को बाईपास कर सकते हैं, यानि हमारी प्रतिरोधक क्षमता को चकमा दे सकते हैं। ये म्यूटेंट ज्यादा संक्रामक हैं और इन्हें 15 से 20 पर्सेंट सैंपल्स में पाया गया है। हैरानी की बात यह है कि अभी तक वायरस के जितने भी जीनोम सीक्वेंस डिकोड किए गए हैं, ये उनमें से किसी से भी मैच नहीं करते।

NCDC के डायरेक्टर ने बताया कि कोरोना वायरस का यह डबल म्यूटेंट महाराष्ट्र के 206 और दिल्ली के 9 सैंपल्स में मिला है। नागपुर में लगभग 20 प्रतिशत सैंपल्स में डबल म्यूटेंट पाया गया है। राज्यों और केद्र शासित प्रदेशों द्वारा साझा किए गए कुल 10,787 पॉजिटिव सैंपल्स में 771 वेरिएंट्स का पता चला है। ये डबल म्यूटेंट्स यूके, दक्षिण अफ्रीकी या ब्राजील के म्यूटेंट्स से अलग बताए जा रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि म्यूटेंट्स का पता लगाने के लिए अब ज्यादा जीनोम सीक्वेंसिंग की जा रही है।

आसान शब्दों में कहें तो जो लोग ये समझते थे कि उनकी इम्युनिटी काफी अच्छी है, वे भी इस ‘डबल म्यूटेंट’ के हमले से सुरक्षित नहीं हैं। नया म्यूटेंट इसलिए खतरनाक है क्योंकि यह शरीर की प्रतिरोधक क्षमता को भी छका सकता है, उसे चकमा दे सकता है। महाराष्ट्र के 10 में से 9 जिले इस ‘डबल म्यूटेंट’ वायरस से प्रभावित हुए हैं।

कोरोना वायरस की दूसरी लहर के साथ ही मामलों में तेजी से बढ़ोत्तरी होती जा रही है। रोजाना होने वाली मौतों का आंकड़ा भी बढ़ता जा रहा है। बुधवार को कोरोना वायरस के संक्रमण के चलते पूरे भारत में 248 मरीजों की जान गई है। स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय के मुताबिक, कोविड-19 से होने वाली कुल मौतों में से 88 फीसदी मौतें 45 साल से अधिक के आयु वर्ग में हुई हैं। महाराष्ट्र से बुधवार को 31,855 नए मामले सामने आए हैं। पिछले साल महामारी की शुरुआत के बाद यह एक दिन में मिलने वाले मरीजों की सबसे बड़ी संख्या है। मुंबई में एक दिन में सर्वाधिक 5190 नए मामले सामने आए, जबकि मंगलवार को 3,514 नए मरीज मिले थे। गुजरात में बुधवार को एक दिन में सबसे ज्यादा 1,790 नए मामले सामने आए। दिल्ली में कोरोना के 1,254 नए मामले सामने आए और यह 18 दिसंबर के बाद से सबसे ज्यादा है।

होली, नवरात्र, शब-ए-बारात और रमजान जैसे त्योहार पास आते जा रहे हैं और इसके साथ ही इन राज्यों में सरकारों की टेंशन भी बढ़ती जा रही है। कुछ राज्य सरकारों ने होली, नवरात्र और शब-ए-बारात के मौके पर भीड़ इकट्ठा होने पर रोक लगा दी है। हालात को देखते हुए महाराष्ट्र के बीड में 26 मार्च से 4 अप्रैल तक लॉकडाउन का ऐलान हो गया है। इसी तरह नांदेड़ जिले में भी नाइट कर्फ्यू लगा दिया गया है।

हालांकि कोरोना के बढ़ते मामलों से ‘डबल म्यूटेंट’ को जोड़ना अभी जल्दबाजी होगी, लेकिन जो संकेत मिल रहे हैं वे ठीक नहीं हैं। लोगों के बीच आधारहीन अफवाहें भी फैल रही हैं और कहा जा रहा है कि कोविशील्ड हो या कोवैक्सीन, कोरोना के बदले हुए रूप पर इन दोनों टीकों का असर नहीं होगा।

मैं पूछना चाहता हूं: वायरस के जिस ‘डबल म्यूटेंट’ वैरिएंट का पता अभी चला है, जिसके व्यवहार के बारे में वैज्ञानिकों के पास भी जानकारी नहीं है, उसके बारे में कोई ये कैसे कह सकता है कि वैक्सीन उस पर असर करेगी या नहीं?

अफवाहों पर यकीन न करें। केंद्र सरकार की तरफ से कहा गया कि फिलहाल कोरोना के खिलाफ जंग जीतने के 3 ही मंत्र हैं, पहला टेस्टिंग, दूसरा मास्क और तीसरा वैक्सीनेशन। टेस्टिंग जितनी ज्यादा बढ़ाई जाएगी, कोरोना को रोकना सरकार के लिए उतना ही आसान होगा। लोग मास्क लगाएंगे, सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग का पालन करेंगे, तो कोरोना से बचे रहेंगे। और जहां तक वैक्सीनेशन का सवाल है सरकार ने ये ऐलान तो कर ही दिया है कि अब 1 अप्रैल से 45 साल से ज्यादा उम्र के सभी लोगों को वैक्सीन दी जाएगी। बुधवार को सरकार ने ये भी क्लीयर कर दिया कि कोरोना का पुराना वैरिएंट हो या फिर नया, वैक्सीन सभी वैरिएंट्स पर असर करेगी।

नीति आयोग के सदस्य (स्वास्थ्य) डॉक्टर वीके पॉल के मुताबिक, वायरस में म्यूटेशन नैचुरल है। उन्होंने कहा कि वायरस अपना रूप बदलता है और यह कोई नई बात नहीं है। डॉ. पॉल ने बताया कि जब तक वायरस म्यूटेट नहीं करेगा, तब तक इसके असर का पता नहीं चलेगा और यह जानकारी नहीं मिल पाएगी कि इसका कौन-सा वैरिएंट, कौन-सा स्ट्रेन इंसान के लिए ज्यादा घातक साबित होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि लेकिन सबसे अच्छा तो यह है कि वायरस को अपने पास ही न आने दिया जाए, इसे पहले ही दबा दिया जाए।

इस वक्त जरूरी है कि हम सभी कोविड से जुड़े दिशानिर्देशों का पालन करें, घर से बाहर निकलते समय मास्क जरूर पहनें, भीड़-भाड़ वाली जगहों से दूर रहें, सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग बनाए रखें और अपना नंबर आने पर वैक्सीन जरूर लगवाएं। वायरस से खुद को बचाने के सिर्फ यही तरीके हैं। इस महामारी से खुद को बचाने के लिए हम सभी को हाथ से हाथ मिलाकर चलना होगा।

त्योहार हम बाद में भी मना सकते हैं, लेकिन सबसे बड़ी प्राथमिकता भीड़भाड़ इकट्ठा न होने देने और महामारी से लड़ने की है। होली और ईद तो हम अगले साल भी मना सकते हैं, बशर्ते इस वायरस से खुद को बचाए रखें। यदि सरकार होली पर पाबंदी लगाती है, तो इसे हिंदू विरोधी बताया जाता है, और अगर यह शब-ए-बारात पर पाबंदी लगाती है, तो सरकार को मुस्लिम विरोधी बताया जाता है। एक दूसरे के खिलाफ धार्मिक आधार पर इस तरह के आरोप लगाने से हमें बचना होगा। समाज और धर्म के ऐसे नेताओं से दूर रहें जो आपकी भावनाओं को भड़काने की कोशिश कर सकते हैं।

दूसरी बात ये कि चूंकि 45 वर्ष से अधिक आयु के लोगों को ‘सुपर स्प्रेडर्स’ माना जाता है, इसलिए उन्हें एक अप्रैल के बाद वैक्सन जरूर लगवा लेनी चाहिए। यदि आपकी उम्र 60 साल से ज्यादा है तो आप तुरंत टीका लगवाएं। केवल वैक्सीन ही कोरोना के खिलाफ आपके लिए एक ढाल का काम करेगी।

यह सच है कि महामारी को आए हुए एक साल से ज्यादा का समय बीत चुका है, लेकिन आज भी पूरी दुनिया में इस वायरस को लेकर सबसे बड़ी प्रॉब्लम है ये है कि इसको लेकर कोई क्लैरिटी नहीं है। यह कहां से आया? कैसे फैलता है? इससे बचने का फूलप्रूफ तरीका क्या है? क्या वैक्सीनेशन कोरोना को रोक सकता है? कितने दिन तक रोक सकता है? इन सारे सवालों का आज तक कोई साफ जवाब नहीं मिल पया है। एक साल से भी ज्यादा समय बीत चुका है लेकिन आज भी बड़े-बड़े एक्सपर्ट कोरोना वायरस को लेकर सवालों के जवाब नहीं दे पाते।

आज भी कोई शख्स कोरोना वायरस से संक्रमित होता है तो हम ढूंढते रहते हैं कि इन्फेक्शन आया कहां से। मैं ऐसे कितने लोगों को जानता हूं जो साल भर घर से नहीं निकले, किसी से नहीं मिले, भीड़ में नहीं गए, पार्टी में नहीं गए लेकिन कोरोना वायरस के शिकार हो गए। और मैंने ऐसे लोग भी देखे हैं जो लापरवाह हैं, बाजार में भी जाते हैं, पार्टियों में भी जाते हैं लेकिन कोरोना से बचे हुए हैं।

अब अगर कोरोना वायरस का संक्रमण भीड़ से फैलता है, तो हम हर रोज बंगाल, असम और दक्षिण भारतीय राज्यों में चुनाव की रैलियां देखते हैं, लेकिन इनमें से किसी भी राज्य में कोरोना के मामलों में खास बढ़ोत्तरी नहीं हुई है। पिछले 4 महीनों से किसान दिल्ली के बॉर्डर पर हजारों की संख्या में बैठे हैं, लेकिन कोरोना वहां भी नहीं फैला। और कई जगह शादी में 100 लोग इकट्ठा हुए और उनमें से अधिकांश संक्रमित हो गए।

लक्षणों की बात करें, तो इसे लेकर भी कुछ साफ नहीं है। कई ऐसे लोग जिनमें खांसी और बुखार जैसे कोरोना के लक्षण दिखाई दिए, जांच होने के बाद उनकी रिपोर्ट नेगेटिव आई। वहीं, कई ऐसे लोग भी हैं जिनमें कोविड का कोई लक्षण नहीं था, लेकिन पॉजिटिव पाए गए। मैं ऐसे कितने लोगों को जानता हूं जिन्हें इंफेक्शन हुआ, और वे ठीक हो गए, लेकिन 14 दिन बाद रिपोर्ट आई तो पॉजिटिव दिखाया। डॉक्टर कहते हैं कि यह डेड वायरस है, टेस्ट में रिफ्लेक्ट करेगा लेकिन खतरे की कोई बात नहीं होती।

यही बात वैक्सीनेशन पर भी लागू होती है। कोई पूरे यकीन के साथ नहीं बता पा रहा है कि वैक्सीनेशन के बाद भी कोरोना हो सकता है या नहीं। कुछ लोग कहते थे कि चीनी टीका सबसे ज्यादा असरदार है क्योंकि वायरस चीन से आया था। लेकिन चीन में बनी वैक्सीन की पहली डोज लेने के बाद इमरान खान को वायरस ने पकड़ लिया। बुधवार को बॉलीवुड स्टार आमिर खान के भी कोरोना संक्रमित होने की खबर मिली। महाराष्ट्र के मंत्री धनंजय मुंडे तो दोबारा कोविड पॉजिटिव पाए गए हैं।

अब सबसे बड़ा सवाल यह है कि क्या कोई इस बात को पूरे यकीन से कह सकता है कि वैक्सीन की दोनों डोज लेने के बाद उसे कोरोना वायरस का संक्रमण नहीं होगा? विशेषज्ञों का कहना है कि इसकी गारंटी कोई नहीं दे सकता। इस बारे में सिर्फ इतना कहा जा सकता है कि वैक्सीनेशन के बाद वायरस के संक्रमण का खतरा कम हो जाता है।

एक ऐसा वायरस जो इतना चालाक है, इतने रूप बदलता है, उससे लड़ाई लड़ना बेहद ही चुनौतीपूर्ण काम है। इसीलिए सबसे जरूरी चीज है वायरस से खुद की सुरक्षा। मास्क लगाएं, हाथों को नियमित अंतराल पर धोएं, भीड़भाड़ वाली जगहों से दूरी बनाए रखें, और अपना नंबर आने पर वैक्सीन जरूर लगवाएं। यही आपके और आपके परिवार के बचाव का एकलौता तरीका है।
