India registered 1,761 deaths during the past 24 hours due to Covid pandemic as the second wave is taking the form of a tsunami spreading in different states, unabated. The number of active cases have doubled in the last ten days, and has crossed 20 lakhs. Nearly 2.6 lakh new Covid cases were reported on Monday, and the situation is grim across all metros and towns.

The total death since the onset of pandemic has now touched 1,80,530. Till now, 12.7 crore people have been vaccinated across India. On Monday, the Centre announced that all Indians above the age of 18 years will now be eligible to get Covid vaccines from May 1. A week-long complete lockdown has been clamped in the national capital Delhi, which recorded more than 23,700 Covid cases on Monday. 240 Covid patients died in Delhi in the last 24 hours.

With government and private hospitals unable to bear the load of a huge number of Covid patients, the Centre has asked Army and DRDO to open up hospitals to treat Covid patients. DRDO will set up temporary Covid hospitals in Lucknow and Ahmedabad, it has already opened a big Covid hospital in Delhi. Within two hours of opening of the Covid hospital in Delhi, all the 250 beds were filled up. The capacity is now being enhanced to 500.

The Defence Ministry has asked all cantonment board hospitals to admit civil Covid patients. Two more Covid hospitals will be set up in Patna and Nashik by the DRDO.

In a grim repeat of last year, a huge exodus of migrant workers has begun from Delhi after it was announced that a week-long lockdown will be enforced. More than 5,000 migrants rushed to Anand Vihar ISBT to catch buses for their home towns.

There is no reason to panic. According to experts, the main purpose behind lockdown is to break the virus chain that had been spreading for the last two months. Once the virus chain breaks, the Covid curve will definitely fall flat and then decline. This has already happened in Mumbai, as we showed last night in our show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on India TV.

The medical fraternity has welcomed Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to impose weeklong lockdown in the capital. Doctors said, this was necessary to ease the huge load that had been put on the capital’s hospitals, both public and private. Such a drastic step was necessary and the results will be visible soon, they said. The issue is not only of shortage of beds, ventilators and oxygen cylinders, there is sever shortage of healthcare workers, many of whom have been tested positive, and are in self-isolation. Doctors say that those people who have mild Covid systems and have been found positive, can stay at home and take medicines to recover.

The moot point is: vaccination. The more people get vaccine, the lesser load hospitals will have to bear. India has vaccinated a record number of people. It has been our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earnest endeavour, right from the beginning, to ensure that vaccines reach the common people at the earliest. Yet, there are still many who are sceptical about the vaccines. In the first stage, healthcare workers were given first priority for vaccination, but you will be surprised to know that only 37 per cent out of a 3 crore plus health workforce have opted for vaccines. The age limit was lowered to 45 years, and yet many people in the age group of 45-plus did not come forward and take vaccines.

Now that vaccination for all 18-plus Indians have been allowed from May 1, we expect to see a huge rush for vaccines. In the US and UK, a large number of people took vaccines, and today, because of a drop in Covid cases, the markets have now reopened. We should learn from their experience. Our population is nearly 100 crore more compared to that of the US, and it will take a long time to vaccinate all. Remember, vaccination is the only method available to control the pandemic.

The biggest mistake that we did was to presume when the first wave died down, that a second wave will never hit India. By February, most of the huge Covid temporary hospitals that were built last year, were dismantled due to lack of patients. Most of the people took it easy, started moving in crowds, without masks, did not practise hand hygiene, and the results are there for all to see.

We could have used this vital time to increase the number of hospital beds, enhance oxygen supply, ventilators and medicines, but we took a complacent view. Most of use were focused on vaccines – To take, or not to take. By this time, the wedding season began, parties were on in full swing, Kumbh Mela was allowed, political rallies took place, and the pandemic, that was waiting in the wings, struck. The situation has now become chaotic in the last two weeks. Now that curfews and lockdowns have been imposed, I am confident that better results will be visible in the next two to three weeks.

कोरोना वायरस के संक्रमण की रफ्तार थमने का नाम नहीं ले रही है। शुक्रवार को पूरे देश में 2,34,692 नए मामले सामने आने के साथ ही संक्रमण के एक्टिव मामलों की संख्या बढ़कर 16,79,740 हो गई है। शुक्रवार को इस घातक वायरस के संक्रमण ने देशभर में 1,341लोगों की जान ले ली। कोरोना से देशभर में अबतक कुल 1,75,649 लोगों की मौत हो चुकी है।

कोरोना महामारी की दूसरी लहर के फैलने का अंदाजा इस बात से लगाया जा सकता है कि दुनिया भर में कोरोना के जो चार मामले आ रहे हैं उनमें से एक भारत का है। पिछले साल सितंबर में आई कोरोना की पहली लहर के पीक को हम पार चुके हैं।

16 राज्यों की लिस्ट में महाराष्ट्र 63,729 नए मामलों के साथ टॉप पर है, और यहां इस बीमारी ने 398 लोगों की जान ली है। उत्तर प्रदेश में 27,426 नए मामले आए हैं और 103 लोगों की मौत हुई है। दिल्ली में 19,500 से ज्यादा मामले आए और यहां 141 मरीजों की सांसें थम गईं। एक तरफ तो ये आंकड़े डरानेवाले हैं, वहीं दूसरी ओर अस्पतालों और श्माशनों के अंदर और बाहर बेहद खौफनाक मंजर देखने को मिल रहे हैं।

इंडिया टीवी के संवाददाताओं ने दिल्ली, मुंबई और अन्य शहरों के बड़े अस्पतालों का दौरा किया और ये रिपोर्ट भेजी कि कैसे वहां डॉक्टर्स और अन्य स्वास्थ्यकर्मी एक बड़ी चुनौती से संघर्ष कर रहे हैं। इन अस्पतालों में आरटी-पीसीआर टेस्ट के लिए लोगों की लंबी कतारें देखी गईं। अगर किसी की रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आई और अस्पताल में भर्ती कराने की जरूरत है तो बेड्स उपलब्ध नहीं हैं। जरूरी दवाओं, ऑक्सीजन और वेंटिलेटर्स की कमी थी। और अगर किसी ने इस घातक वायरस के संक्रमण से दम तोड़ दिया तो श्मशान के हालात भी भयावह थे। पीपीई किट पहने डॉक्टर और नर्स लोगों की जान बचाने के लिए दिन-रात मेहनत कर रहे हैं। एक वरिष्ठ डॉक्टर ने मुझे बताया कि कुछ महीने पहले वह भी कोरोना पॉजिटिव हो गए थे और तब उन्हें काम से छुट्टी मिली थी, लेकिन अब वह फिर से काम में जुट गए हैं।

ऑक्सीजन और इलाज के इंतजार में अस्पतालों की लॉबी और अस्पतालों के बाहर भी मरीज लेटे हुए थे। घरों में, अस्पतालों में, टीकाकरण केंद्रों और श्मशान में भय का माहौल है। चिता पर दर्जनों शवों के अंतिम संस्कार का दृश्य डर पैदा कर रहा है।

दिल्ली के एलएनजेपी अस्पताल में हर कुछ मिनट पर एम्बुलेंस नए मरीजों को लेकर पहुंच रही है। ऑफिशियल ऐप पर देखेंगे तो पता लगेगा कि LNJP में कुल 1620 बेड हैं इनमें 1500 बेड ऑक्सीजन वाले हैं जबकि ICU में तीन सौ बेड हैं। इस एप के मुताबिक LNJP में 739 बेड खाली हैं। फिर भी इस अस्पताल में एक ही बिस्तर पर दो या तीन मरीज लेटे हुए थे। एलएनजेपी अस्पताल के प्रमुख डॉ. सुरेश कुमार ने बताया कि कई बार अचानक एक साथ कई मरीज आ जाते हैं और सबको ऑक्सीजन की जरूरत होती है। ऐसे में बेड तैयार करने में वक्त लगता है तो इस बीच मरीज को तुरंत किसी बेड पर लिटाकर उसे ऑक्सीजन दिया जाता है ताकि जिंदगी बचाई जा सके। कुछ बेड्स पर दो या तीन मरीज पूरे दिन दिखते हैं ऐसा क्यों? इस सवाल के जवाब में डॉक्टर सुरेश कुमार ने बताया कि चूंकि इस बार कोरोना में पूरे परिवार के परिवार संक्रमित हो रहे हैं और कई बार ऐसा होता है कि एक ही परिवार दो सदस्य अस्पताल पहुंचते हैं तो उन्हें भर्ती कर लिया जाता है। अगर उसी वक्त कोई ऐसा मरीज जिसे बेड की जरूरत होती है तो फिर एक ही परिवार के दो लोगों को एक बेड पर शिफ्ट किया जाता है। जिससे तीसरे व्यक्ति को बेड देकर उसका इलाज शुरू किया जा सके। इन बातों से ऐसा लगता है कि इस अस्पताल को पूरा सिस्टम व्यवहारिक तौर पर धवस्त हो चुका है हालांकि हालात की गंभीरता को लेकर ये अस्पताल प्रमुख के अपने विचार हैं।

उधर मुंबई के अस्पतालों में हालात बदतर हैं। यहां अस्पतालों में भर्ती होने के लिए बड़ी तादाद में मरीज इंतजार कर रहे हैं और न तो उन्हें बेड मिल पा रहा है, न ऑक्सीजन और न ही वेंटिलेटर उपलब्ध है। ज्यादातरअस्पतालों में ऑक्सीजन की भारी कमी है। नागपुर में एक डॉक्टर और एक वार्ड ब्वॉय को रेमडेसिविर दवा की 15 शीशियों के साथ पकड़ा गया। ये लोग इस दवा को 16-16 हजार रुपये में बेचने की कोशिश कर रहे थे। कानपुर में रेमडेसिविर की 250 से ज्यादा डोज साथ तीन लोग पकड़े गए।

भोपाल में एक बार में एक साथ 40 शवों के अंतिम संस्कार का वीडियो सोशल मीडिया पर पहले से ही वायरल है। राज्य सरकार कोरोना से मौतों की सही संख्या को छिपाने की कोशिश कर रही है। 15 अप्रैल को भोपाल में 112 लोगों का अंतिम संस्कार किया गया था, लेकिन राज्य सरकार ने केवल 8 लोगों की मौत की सूचना दी। इसी तरह लखनऊ में रोजाना 100 से 150 शवों का अंतिम संस्कार गुलाला घाट पर किया जाता है, लेकिन सरकारी आंकड़ों में कहा गया है कि 15 अप्रैल को लखनऊ में कोरोना से केवल 26 लोगों की मौत हुई।

सरकारी आंकड़ों और श्मशान में अन्तिम संस्कारों की संख्या में अन्तर की एक वजह ये बताई गई कि जिन लोगों की मौत होती है उनमें से बहुत से ऐसे होते हैं जिनकी कोरोना की टेस्ट रिपोर्ट अंतिम संस्कार के समय उपलब्ध नहीं हो पाती है और उनका अन्तिम संस्कार भी कोरोना प्रोटोकाल के तहत होता है। जगह और समय की कमी के कारण जल्द से जल्द शवों का अंतिम संस्कार करना होता है।ये मौत के आंकड़ों में अंतर की मुख्य वजह है।

इस बीच प्रधानमंत्री की अपील के बावजूद हरिद्वार में कुंभ मेला जारी है। प्रधानमंत्री ने संतों से यह विशेष आग्रह किया है कि वे बाकी के ‘स्नान’ को वापस लें और इस बार के कुंभ मेले को प्रतीकात्मक बनाएं।

कुल मिलाकर, कोरोना महामारी की दूसरी लहर ने पूरे देश में जानमाल का भारी नुकसान किया है। यह पिछले महीने तक अकल्पनीय था कि ऐसा कुछ होगा। कोरोना के दिशा-निर्देशों का पालन करने, सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग, मास्क पहनने और भीड़ से दूर रहने की तमाम अपीलों के बावजूद कई लोगों ने इसे नजरअंदाज किया और अब इसका परिणाम हम सबके सामने है। दिल्ली, मुंबई, बैंगलोर, हैदराबाद, लखनऊ, भोपाल जैसे बड़े महानगरों के लोग टेस्ट कराने के लिए भाग रहे हैं, लोग अपने परिवार, रिश्तेदारों को भर्ती कराने के लिए अस्पताल पहुंच रहे हैं। इन हालात से बचा जा सकता था। हमलोगों के पास अभी भी समय है कि हम अपने घरों में रहें और कोरोना वायरस की इस घातक चेन को तोड़ने की कोशिश करें।

The figures are frightening. 2,34,692 fresh Covid cases were registered across India on Friday, taking the total active case load to 16,79,740 cases. With 1,341 deaths recorded on Friday, the total Covid-related death toll has now touched 1,75,649.

The spread of the second wave of Covid pandemic can be gauged from the fact that one out of every four Covid cases detected throughout the world is from India. We have already crossed the peak of the first wave that was there in September last year.

At the top of the tally from 16 states, Maharashtra logged 63,729 new cases and 398 deaths. Uttar Pradesh registered 27,426 fresh cases and 103 deaths. Delhi recorded more than 19.500 cases and 141 deaths.

If the figures are frightening, the visuals inside and outside hospitals, morgues and crematoriums are scary.

India TV reporters on Friday visited many of the top hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai and other cities to get first-hand report on how the doctors and other healthcare workers are struggling against gigantic odds. There were long queues for RT-PCR tests, if anybody was found positive and needed hospitalization, there were simply no beds, there was scarcity of vital medicines, oxygen and ventilators, and if anybody succumbed to the virus, the conditions at the crematoriums were appalling. Doctors and nurses wearing PPE kits are toiling day and night to save the lives of people. A senior doctors told me, he was found positive a few months ago, and had a break from work, but now he is back to work again.

There were patients lying in the lobbies and even outside hospitals, waiting for oxygen and treatment. An atmosphere of fear is pervading, in homes, in hospitals, at vaccination centres, and in crematoriums. Visuals of dozens of bodies being cremated on pyres create a frightening effect.

At Delhi’s LNJP hospital, ambulances arrive after every few minutes bringing in new patients. There were two or three patients lying on a single bed, even though the official app shows the hospital has 739 unoccupied beds. 1500 out of 1620 beds in LNJP hospital have oxygen facility. There are 300 beds in ICU. The LNJP hospital chief Dr Suresh Kumar said, sometimes many patients arrive at a single point of time, it takes time to prepare beds and since all of them needs oxygen, it is a difficult task to allot them beds having this facility. For two or more people occupying a single bed, he said, in some families, more than two members have been found positive and need hospitalization. The system has practically collapsed at this hospital, though the hospital chief has his own views about the critical situation.

The situation in Mumbai hospitals is worse. There are no beds, no oxygen, nor any ventilator to cater to the long queues of patients awaiting admission. There is acute shortage of oxygen in most of the hospitals. In Nagpur, a doctor and a ward boy were caught with 15 Remdesivir vials which they were trying to sell for Rs 16,000 each. Three people were caught in Kanpur with more than 250 Remdesivir vials.

A scary video of 40 bodies being cremated at a time in Bhopal is already viral on social media. The state government is trying to hide the real number of Covid deaths. On April 15, 112 people were cremated in Bhopal, but the state government reported death of only 8 people in Bhopal. Similarly in Lucknow, daily 100 to 150 bodies are being cremated at Gulala Ghat, but the official statistics say only 26 people died of Corona in Lucknow on April 15.

Officials claim that the difference in death figures is mainly because the final Covid reports were not available at the time of cremation, and yet, the bodies have to be cremated soon, due to lack of space and time, as per Covid protocol. However, I do not find any reason, why state government would like to conceal the exact figures of Covid related deaths.

Meanwhile, the Kumbh Mela continues in Haridwar, despite the Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a special plea to the sadhus to call off the remaining ‘snans’ and make the Kumbh Mela symbolic this time.

Overall, the second wave of Covid pandemic has caused huge loss of lives across India. This was unthinkable even till last month. Despite several pleas to practise Covid protocol, by maintaining safe distancing, wearing of masks, and staying away from crowds, many of the people chose to ignore these appeals. The results are there for all of us to see. People living in big metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, are rushing to get themselves tested, and reach the nearest hospitals to admit their near and dear ones. This situation could have been avoided. There is still time for all of us to try to state inside our homes, and try to break this deadly chain of the Coronavirus.

कोरोना की रफ्तार थमने का नाम नहीं ले रही है। गुरुवार को केवल एक दिन में देशभर में 2.16 लाख नए मामले सामने आए जबकि इस घातक वायरस ने 1,184 लोगों की जान ले ली। दिल्ली और उससे सटे उत्तर प्रदेश के इलाकों में इस महामारी के कहर से हालात भयावह हो गए हैं। देश में कोरोना के कुल एक्टिव मामले पहले ही 15 लाख के आंकड़े को पार कर चुके हैं। यह आंकड़ा दो हफ्ते पहले के मुकाबले ढाई गुना ज्यादा है।

गुरुवार को 14 राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में कोरोना के मामलों में सबसे ज्यादा उछाल दर्ज किया गया। इनमें महाराष्ट्र 61,695 मामलों के साथ सबसे ऊपर है। उत्तर प्रदेश में 22,439 मामले, छत्तीसगढ़ में 15,256 मामले, कर्नाटक में 14,738 मामले, मध्य प्रदेश में 10,168 मामले और गुजरात में 8152 मामले दर्ज किए गए। वहीं राजधानी दिल्ली में 16,699 मामले सामने आए हैं।

दिल्ली में शुक्रवार की रात से दो दिनों का वीकेंड कर्फ्यू लगेगा। इस दौरान शराब की दुकानें बंद रहेंगी। वहीं मॉल, बार, रेस्टोरेंट, जिम, स्पा, मनोरंजन पार्क और ऑडिटोरियम 30 अप्रैल तक बंद रहेंगे। रेस्टोरेंट से होम डिलीवरी और टेकअवे की इजाजत होगी, जबकि सिनेमा हॉल को 30 प्रतिशत की क्षमता के साथ सोमवार से शुक्रवार के बीच रात 10 बजे तक संचालन की इजाजत होगी।

पूरे देश की हालत बेहद चिंताजनक है। महाराष्ट्र ने पहले ही 1 मई तक कर्फ्यू लागू कर दिया है जबकि मध्य प्रदेश के शहरों में भी इसी तरह का कर्फ्यू लगाया गया है। सांसों की समस्या और अन्य गंभीर रूप से बीमार लोग लगातार अस्पतालों में पहुंच रहे हैं जिससे अस्पतालों में बेड की कमी हो गई है। ज्यादातर राज्यों में अस्पताल बेड की कमी से जूझ रहे हैं।

उधर, हरिद्वार में निर्वाणी अखाड़े के महामंडलेश्वर कपिल देव दास (65 वर्ष) की कोरोना संक्रमण से मौत के बाद निरंजनी अखाड़े ने कुंभ से हटने का ऐलान कर दिया है। निरंजनी अखाड़ा दूसरा सबसे बड़ा और प्रमुख अखाड़ा है। कुंभ में 68 बड़े साधुओं की कोरोना रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आई है।

कुंभ मेला परिसर 670 हेक्टेयर में फैला है और यहां श्रद्धालुओं के गंगा स्नान के लिए कई घाट बनाए गए हैं। लेकिन परेशानी ये है कि ज्यादातर श्रद्धालु हर की पौड़ी पर ही डुबकी लगाना चाहते हैं और गंगा आरती के दर्शन पर जोर देते हैं। ये स्थानीय प्रशासन के लिए सिरदर्द बन रहा है।

12 अप्रैल को सोमवती अमावस्या और 14 अप्रैल को चैत्र संक्रांति/बैसाखी के अवसर इन दो दिनों में 48 लाख से ज्यादा श्रद्धालुओं ने गंगा में स्नान किया। इस भीड़ की वजह से कोरोना के मामले काफी तेजी से बढ़े। करीब 50 लाख श्रद्धालुओं में से मुश्किल से करीब दो लाख लोगों ने कोरोना का टेस्ट कराया। वहीं उत्तराखंड के मुख्यमंत्री तीरथ सिंह रावत का कहना है कि मां गंगा के आशीर्वाद के कारण श्रद्धालुओं के बीच कोरोना वायरस नहीं फैलेगा।

हरिद्वार कुंभ के दृश्य सभी देख सकते हैं। इस मेले में आने वाले श्रद्धालुओं की जांच के लिए मानक संचालन प्रक्रिया (एसओपी) के पालन की कोशिश नहीं की गई। इस मेले में शामिल होने के लिए सभी को खुला निमंत्रण था। मेले के दौरान साधुओं के ठहरने के लिए विशाल टेंट लगाए गए थे। हालांकि उस वक्त आपत्ति जताई गई थी लेकिन उन आपत्तियों पर ध्यान नहीं दिया गया,उन्हें नजरंदाज किया गया। इन टेंटों में रहनेवालों का आरटी-पीसीआर टेस्ट भी नहीं कराया गया। अब जबकि इतने सारे साधुओं और बड़े संतों की कोरोना रिपोर्ट पॉटिजिव आई है और कुछ ‘शाही स्नान’ बाकी हैं, तब उत्तराखंड शासन जनहित में मेला बंद करने का फैसला क्यों नहीं ले सकता?

ज्यादातर अस्पतालों और श्मशानों में हालात भयावह बने हुए हैं। इसके बावजूद ऐसे हजारों लोग हैं जो लापरवाह हैं। राजनीतिक नेताओं ने भी अपना दृष्टिकोण नहीं बदला है जबकि उनपर लोगों को सावधानी बरतने के लिए समझाने की जिम्मेदारी है।

गुरुवार को भी बंगाल विधानसभा चुनाव को लेकर रोड शो जारी रहा और इस दौरान मास्क लगाने और सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग की कोई कोशिश नहीं दिखी। कर्नाटक के बेलगावी उपचुनाव में वोट के लिए नेताओं ने खुलेआम लोगों से हाथ मिलाया और बिना मास्क पहने भीड़ में चले गए। आंध्र प्रदेश के कुरनूल में तेलुगु नववर्ष उगाडी के अवसर पर लोगों का एक भारी जमावड़ा देखने को मिला। इस धार्मिक मेले में हजारों लोगों ने एक-दूसरे पर गोबर फेंका। यहां सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग की जमकर धज्जियां उड़ाई गईं।

बंगाल में कोरोना प्रतिबंधों को धत्ता बताते हुए रैली और रोड शो के आयोजन को लेकर सभी राजनीतिक दल एक-दूसरे को दोषी ठहरा रहे हैं। यहां मतदान के अभी चार दौर बचे हुए हैं और चुनाव प्रचार अपने चरम पर है। मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी कोरोना वायरस फैलाने के लिए ‘बाहरी लोगों’ को दोषी ठहरा रही हैं। उनका कहना है कि ये लोग बीजेपी का प्रचार करने के लिए बाहर से बंगाल आए और यहां कोरोना फैला दिया। वहीं बीजेपी के नेताओं ने ममता सरकार को कुप्रबंधन और दोषपूर्ण योजना के लिए जिम्मेदार ठहराया है।

ममता बनर्जी ने यहां तक सुझाव दिया है कि बाकी के सभी चरण के चुनाव को एक साथ जोड़ कर एक दौर में ही वोटिंग करा ली जाए, लेकिन चुनाव आयोग ने ऐसी किसी भी संभावना से इंकार किया है। वहीं वामदलों ने बड़ी चुनावी रैलियां नहीं करने का फैसला किया है, जबकि बीजेपी ने अपने चुनाव प्रचार को स्थानीय इलाके तक सीमित रखने का फैसला किया है। ममता बनर्जी अपनी रैलियों को बंद करने के लिए तैयार नहीं हैं। उनका दावा है कि बीजेपी और वाम मोर्चे की जनसभाओं में लोग नहीं आ रहे हैं। अप्रैल के अंत तक इस तरह से चुनाव प्रचार का अभियान जारी रहेगा और तबतक काफी नुकसान हो चुका होगा। उस हालत में राज्य में कोरोना महामारी की स्थिति क्या होगी और उससे निपटने की चुनौती कैसी होगी इसका अंदाजा आप सहज लगा सकते हैं।

मैंने कई बड़े डॉक्टरों से बात की। उनका कहना है कि यहां लोगों का मास्क न पहनना इस महामारी के फैलने की एक बड़ी वजह है। जापान जैसे देशों में लोगों के बीच मास्क न पहनना एक बड़ा मुद्दा बन जाता है लेकिन भारत में यह नियम के बजाय एक अपवाद है। जब वैक्सीन बन रही थी तो लोग पूछते थे कि वैक्सीन कब आएगी? जब वैक्सीन आ गई तो देश के ज्यादातर लोग ‘इंतजार करना और देखना’ चाहते थे। वे दूसरों पर वैक्सीन के असर को देखना चाहते थे और फिर फैसला लेना चाहते थे। अब जब महामारी तेज गति से फैल गई है तो वैक्सीनेशन के लिए लोगों की भीड़ लगनी शुरू हो गई। इसका नतीजा ये हुआ कि कुछ राज्यों में वैक्सीन के स्टॉक (माल) की कमी हो गई है।

चूंकि शुरुआत में वैक्सीन की देश के अंदर ज्यादा मांग नहीं थी इसलिए वैक्सीन निर्माताओं ने अपने स्टॉक को दूसरे देशों में निर्यात करने का फैसला किया। अब जब वैक्सीन की मांग बढ़ गई तो टीकाकरण के अभियान को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए सभी राज्यों में स्टॉक भेजे जा रहे हैं।

डॉक्टरों ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि ज्यादातर लोगों को घर के अंदर रहना चाहिए। जबतक कोई बहुत जरूरी काम न हो लोगों को घरों से बाहर नहीं निकलना चाहिए। अगर लोग कम से कम तीन से चार सप्ताह के लिए खुद को घरों तक सीमित रखें तो महामारी के फैलाव को रोका जा सकता है। अब डबल म्यूटेंट वायरस पूरे भारत में फैल चुका है। आरटी-पीसीआर टेस्ट के रिजल्ट भी गलत आ रहे हैं। यह नया डबल म्यूटेंट स्ट्रेन लोगों पर तेजी से हमला करता है और इसके फैलाव को कंट्रोल करना एक मुश्किल काम है। घरों में रहना, मास्क पहनना, सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग और हाथों को धोते रहने से लोग इस संक्रमण से बच सकते हैं।

Daily Covid-19 cases continued to register a quantum jump on Thursday with the single-day spike crossing 2.16 lakhs, and 1,184 deaths reported. The situation has become scary as the pandemic now zeroes in on Delhi and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. Active Covid cases across India have already crossed the 15-lakh mark. This is two and a half times the figure that was two weeks ago.

Fourteen states and union territories recorded their highest ever tally on Thursday, with Maharashtra leading by 61,695 cases, Uttar Pradesh 22,439 cases, Chhattisgarh 15,256 cases, Karnataka 14,738 cases, Madhya Pradesh 10,168 cases and Gujarat 8,152 cases. Delhi recorded 16,699 cases.

A two-day weekend curfew will be clamped in Delhi from Friday night, all liquor stores will remain closed. Malls, bars, restaurants, gyms, spas, entertainment parks and auditoriums will remain closed till April 30. Home deliveries and takeaways from restaurants will be allowed, while cinema halls have been permitted to operate with only 30 per cent capacity on weekdays up to 10 pm.

The overall situation is bleak across India. Maharashtra has already enforced total curfew till May 1, while similar curfews have been imposed in cities of Madhya Pradesh. Hospitals in most of the states are running short of beds with more patients reporting with breathing trouble and other critical illnesses.

The second largest Niranjani akhada exited the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, after the head of Nirwani Akhada Mahamandaleshwar Kapil Dev Das, 65, died of Covid-19 complications. 68 senior sadhus have been tested positive. More than two thousand people have so far been tested positive during the Kumbh Mela.

The mela is spread across 670 hectares and many ghats have been built for devotees to take a holy dip in the Ganga. But most of the devotees are insisting on taking a dip at the Har Ki Paudi ghat and witness the evening Ganga aarti. This is causing headache for the local administration.

More than 48 lakh devotees took a dip on two important days, Somvati Amavasya on April 12 and on Chaitra Sankranti/Baisakhi on April 14. This has caused a huge spike in the number of Covid cases. Hardly two lakh out of these roughly 50 lakh devotees underwent Covid tests. The Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat is on record having said that Coronavirus will not spread among devotees due to the blessings of Mother Ganga.

The visuals are there for all to see. No attempts were made to carry out standard operating procedure to check devotees coming to the Mela. It was an open invitation for all to join the Mela. Huge tents were erected for sadhus to stay during the Mela. At that time, objections were raised but were overruled. No RT-PCR tests were conducted at these tents. With so many sadhus and top saints tested positive, and some of the ‘shahi snans’ remaining, why can’t the Uttarakhand authorities decide to call off the mela, in the interest of all?

The situation remains bleak across most of the hospitals, its scarier in the crematoriums, but there are thousands of people who have simply become negligent. Nor have the political leaders changed their outlook, because on them rests the responsibility of persuading people to be careful.

Road shows continued during the Bengal elections on Thursday and there were no attempts to wear masks and practise social distancing. In Belgavi, Karnataka, leaders canvassing for votes in a byelection openly mixed with people without wearing masks and moved with crowds. In Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, thousands of people took part in a religious fair on the occasion of Telugu New Year Ugadi by throwing cowdung at each other. Social distancing went for a toss.

In Bengal, all the parties are blaming one another for defying Covid restrictions by organizing rallies and road shows. There are four more phases of polling left and campaigning is at its peak. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has blamed the spread of virus due to “outsiders” who have entered to campaign for BJP in Bengal. BJP leaders have blamed Mamata’s government for mismanagement and faulty planning.

Mamata Banerjee has even suggested that all the three phases be clubbed into one phase to complete polling, but the Election Commission has ruled out any such possibility. The Left has decided not to hold big rallies, while the BJP has decided to confine its campaigning to road shows in localities. Mamata Banerjee is unwilling to call off her rallies. She claims that people are not flocking to public meetings organized by Left and BJP. Till the end of April, the campaigning will continue, and by that time, the damage would already have been done. All that would remain is how to tackle the gigantic challenge of Covid pandemic in that state.

I spoke to several top doctors. They said, it has become a norm for common people not to wear masks, because of which the pandemic spread. In countries like Japan, people make it a point to wear masks most of the time, but in India, it is an exception rather than the rule. When the vaccines were being prepared, people asked when the vaccines would arrive. When the vaccines arrived, most people in India wanted to ‘wait and watch’. They wanted to see the effects of vaccine on others and then decide. Now that the pandemic has spread at a fast pace, there is rush for vaccines, resulting in shortage of vaccine stocks in some of the states.

The vaccine manufacturers in India presumed that since there was not much demand in India, they decided to export much of their stocks to other countries. Now that there is a huge demand for vaccines, stocks are being dispatched to all the states to carry on the vaccination drive.

Doctors insist that most of the people must stay indoors, they should not leave their homes unless it is essential. If people confine themselves to their homes for at least three to four weeks, the pandemic surge can be contained. Now that the double mutant virus is active across India, even RT-PCR tests are throwing up incorrect results. This new mutant strain attacks people faster, and it is a difficult task to control the spread of this new mutant virus. Only social distancing, staying at homes, wearing masks and frequent washing of hands can save people from infection.

भारत में पिछले 24 घंटों के दौरान कोरोना वायरस से संक्रमण के 2 लाख से ज्यादा (2,00,739) नए मामले सामने आए हैं। यह एक दिन में कोरोना के मामलों में सबसे बड़ी उछाल है। बुधवार को भारत में इस घातक वायरस ने 1038 लोगों की जान ले ली। यह पिछले साल 2 अक्टूबर के बाद देशभर में हुई मौतों की सर्वाधिक संख्या है। हालात अब बेहद चिंताजनक हो चुके हैं।

पिछले 10 दिनों में कोरोना के दैनिक मामले दोगुने हो गए हैं। 4 अप्रैल को यह आंकड़ा एक लाख था और आज यह बढ़कर 2 लाख से ज्यादा हो गया है। अमेरिका की बात करें तो वहां 2 लाख के आंकड़े तक पहुंचने में 21 दिन लग गए थे। भारत में इस वायरस के फैलने की रफ्तार अमेरिका की तुलना में कहीं ज्यादा तेज है। स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय के आंकड़ों के मुताबिक, पूरे देश में कोरोना के 14 लाख 71 हजार 877 ऐक्टिव मामले हैं और इस संक्रमण से मरनेवालों का आंकड़ा बढ़कर 1 लाख 73 हजार 123 तक जा पहुंचा है।

देश में 9 राज्य ऐसे हैं जहां बुधवार को एक दिन में सबसे ज्यादा मामले सामने आए हैं। इन राज्यों में उत्तर प्रदेश (20,510), दिल्ली (17,282), कर्नाटक (11,265), मध्य प्रदेश (9,720), गुजरात (7,410), राजस्थान (6,200), हरियाणा (5,398), पश्चिम बंगाल (5,892) और बिहार (4,786) शामिल हैं। इन सभी राज्यों में पिछले 10 दिनों में कोरोना के मामलों में काफी तेजी देखी जा रही है। सबसे ज्यादा प्रभावित राज्य महाराष्ट्र में बुधवार को कुल 58,952 नए मामले दर्ज हुए और 278 मरीजों की मौत हुई। वहीं, छत्तीसगढ़ में 120 लोगों की जान गई, जबकि दिल्ली में 104 मरीजों की मौत हुई।

यह हम सभी के लिए एक चेतावनी है। अगर हम इसे नहीं समझ पा रहे हैं और नजरअंदाज कर रहें तो समझिए कि हम एक बड़ा जोखिम ले रहे हैं। हमें इस अभूतपूर्व त्रासदी से एकजुट होकर लड़ना होगा। दिल्ली के अस्पतालों में बेड की भारी कमी के चलते कई होटल, मॉल और बैंक्वेट हॉल को कोविड उपचार केंद्रों में बदला जा रहा है। लगभग सभी बड़े सरकारी और प्राइवेट अस्पतालों में एक भी ICU बेड खाली नहीं हैं।

दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल ने शुक्रवार रात 10 बजे से सोमवार सुबह 6 बजे तक वीकेंड कर्फ्यू का ऐलान किया है। दिल्ली सरकार ने 15 होटलों को एक्सटेंडेट कोविड हॉस्पिटल के रूप बदलने का ऐलान किया है। इससे कोरोना मरीजों के लिए करीब 3,000 नए बेड जुड़ जाएंगे। इन बेड्स के लिए कोरोना मरीजों को फाइव स्टार होटल्स में 5 हजार रुपये प्रति बेड, फोर स्टार या थ्री स्टार होटलों में 4,000 रुपये प्रति बेड की दर से भुगतान करना होगा। जिन होटल्स को एक्सटेंडेट कोविड हॉस्पिटल में बदला गया है उनमें होटल क्राउन प्लाजा, आईटीसी वेलकम, रेडिसन ब्लू और सूर्या शामिल हैं। कई बैंक्वेट हॉल, एक स्कूल और यमुना स्पोर्ट्स कॉम्प्लेक्स को अस्थायी तौर पर कोविड हॉस्पिटल में बदला जाएगा। 14 प्राइवेट अस्पतालों को कोरोना मरीजों के लिए करीब 80 प्रतिशत बेड रखने के लिए कहा गया है।

एक ओर महाराष्ट्र में जहां इस महामारी के चलते एक मई तक 16 दिन का कर्फ्यू लागू किया गया है वहीं यूपी की राजधानी लखनऊ में व्यापारियों ने अगले 3 दिनों तक सभी बाजार बंद रखने का फैसला किया है। उधर, सुप्रीम कोर्ट में जस्टिस डीवाई चंद्रचूड़ और उनके पूरे स्टाफ का कोरोना टेस्ट पॉजिटिव आया है। उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने निर्देश दिया है कि यूपी माध्यमिक शिक्षा बोर्ड की परीक्षाएं कोरोना महामारी के मद्देनजर स्थगित कर दी जाएं। केंद्र सरकार ने पहले ही सीबीएसई की 10वीं की परीक्षाओं को रद्द कर दिया है और 12वीं की परीक्षाओं को जून तक स्थगित कर दिया है। अन्य राज्य सरकारें भी कोरोना के बढ़ते मामले को देखते हुए परीक्षाएं रद्द/स्थगित करने का फैसला ले रही हैं।

उधर हरिद्वार में चल रहे कुंभ के दौरान कई अखाड़ों और आश्रमों के साधु-संतों के कोरोना संक्रमित होने के बाद भी लाखों लोगों ने गंगा में स्नान किया।

इन सबके बीच वैक्सीनेशन का राष्ट्रव्यापी अभियान जारी है। बुधवार को करीब 33 लाख लोगों को कोरोना की वैक्सीन दी गई। अबतक 11.44 करोड़ लोगों को वैक्सीन दी जा चुकी है। रेमेडिसविर दवा की खेप गुजरात से एयरलिफ्ट कर मध्य प्रदेश मंगाई गई है और इस दवा को इंदौर, भोपाल, उज्जैन, रीवा, ग्वालियर, सागर और रतलाम में भेजा गया है। यूपी में मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने बुधवार को अपना राजकीय विमान रेमेडिसविर दवा की खेप अहमदाबाद से लखनऊ लाने के लिए दिया। इससे रेमेडिसविर की 20,000 डोज को लाया गया। महामारी प्रभावित राज्यों में ऑक्सीजन की व्यवस्था को सुचारू बनाए रखने और ऑक्सीजन की आपूर्ति बढ़ाने के लिए केंद्र सरकार लगातार नजर बनाए हुए है। केंद्र का एक सशक्त दल कार्ययोजना को अंतिम रूप दे रहा है ताकि अस्पतालों में ऑक्सीजन की कमी न हो।

हजारों प्रवासी मजदूर अपने गृह राज्य लौटने की बेताबी में मुंबई के रेलवे स्टेशनों के बाहर डेरा डाले रहे। 16 दिन का कर्फ्यू लगने से पहले मुंबई में दुकानों और डिपार्टमेंटल स्टोर्स के बाहर हजारों लोग लंबी-लंबी लाइनों में खड़े थे। महाराष्ट्र, मध्य प्रदेश और छत्तीसगढ़ में मुर्दाघर कोविद-19 के मरीजों की लाशों से भरे पड़े हैं क्योंकि दाह संस्कार के लिए इंतजार करना पड़ रहा है। मुंबई, गुजरात और मध्य प्रदेश में श्मशान घाटों पर अंतिम संस्कार के इंतजार में लाशों की लंबी लाइनें लगी हैं।

मैं एक बार फिर से दोहराना चाहूंगा। संयम और आत्मनियंत्रण वक्त का तकाजा है। घबराने की जरूरत नहीं है। अपने घर में रहें और जब तक बेहद जरूरी न हो बाहर न निकलें। हमेशा मास्क पहनें और सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग का पालन करें। आइए, जल्द से जल्द इस वायरस की चेन को तोड़ा जाए और वापस सामान्य स्थिति लाई जाए। हम सभी एक बड़ी चुनौती का सामना कर रहे हैं और हमें मिलकर ये काम करना होगा। घर पर रहें, सुरक्षित रहें।

India reported more than 2 lakhs (2,00,739) new Covid cases during the last 24 hours – the highest single day spike so far. 1.038 deaths were recorded on Wednesday across India. This too, is the highest single day death toll since October 2 last year. The situation has now become alarming.

The daily case count has doubled in the last 10 days, from more than 1 lakh on April 4 to more than 2 lakh today. It took 21 days for the United States to reach the 2-lakh milestone, but the surge in India has been faster. There are 14 lakh 71 thousand 877 active Covid cases across India as of today, and the total death toll has now reached 1 lakh 73 thousand 123, according to Health Ministry figures.

There are nine states which have reported the highest one-day spikes on Wednesday. They include Uttar Pradesh (20,510), Delhi (17,282), Karnataka (11,265), Madhya Pradesh (9,720), Gujarat (7,410), Rajasthan (6,200), Haryana (5,398), West Bengal (5,892) and Bihar (4,786). All these states have been witnessing major spikes in the last ten days. The worst hit state, Maharashtra, logged 58,952 fresh cases and 278 deaths on Wednesday. Chhattisgarh reported 120 deaths, while Delhi reported 104 deaths.

This is a warning signal to all of us which we can ignore only at our own peril. We will have to fight this unprecedented tragedy unitedly. Due to severe shortage of beds in Delhi hospitals, several hotels, malls and banquet halls are being turned into Covid treatment centres. There are no ICU beds left vacant in almost all top government and private hospitals.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced weekend curfew from Friday night 10 pm till 6 am on Monday morning. The Delhi government has announced 15 hotels as ‘extended Covid hospitals’. This will add nearly 3,000 beds for Covid patients, for which they will have to pay Rs 5,000 per bed in 5-star hotels and Rs 4,000 per bed in 4-star or 3-star hotels. These include Hotel Crowne Plaza, ITC Welcome, Radisson Blu and Surya. Several banquet halls, one school and Yamuna Sports Complex will be converted into temporary Covid hospitals. 14 private hospitals have been asked to keep nearly 80 per cent of their beds for Covid patients.

While Maharashtra enforced 16-day-long curfew till May 1 due to the pandemic, traders in the UP capital of Lucknow have decided to keep all markets closed for the next three days. At the Supreme Court, the entire staff of Justice D. Y. Chandrachud have been tested Covid positive. UP chief minister Yogi Adtyanath has directed that the UP Secondary Education Board exams be postponed in view of the pandemic. Already, the Centre has cancelled CBSE Class 10 exams and postponed Class 12 exams till June. Other state governments are also following this trend in view of the surge in pandemic.

In the holy city of Haridwar, lakhs of people continued to take dip in the river Ganga, even as many top sadhus in the ashrams and akharas have been tested positive.

Meanwhile, the nationwide Covid vaccination drive continues. Nearly 33 lakh doses were administered on Wednesday taking the total number to 11.44 crores. Remdesivir vial stocks are being airlifted from Gujarat to Madhya Pradesh, and from there they are being distributed to Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Rewa, Gwalior, Sagar and Ratlam. UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath gave his state plane which transported 20,000 Remdesivir vials from Ahmedabad to Lucknow on Wednesday. To augment distribution of oxygen to pandemic hit states, an empowered group at the Centre is finalizing plans to distribute oxygen on a large scale to states suffering from acute shortage.

Thousands of migrant workers continued to wait outside railway stations in Mumbai, desperate to return to their home states. There were long queues of thousands of people outside shops and departmental stores in Mumbai, before the 16-day-long curfew was imposed. Mortuaries in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are packed with bodies of Covid-19 patients, awaiting cremation. There are long queues of bodies awaiting final rites at the crematoriums in Mumbai, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

I will like to repeat here again. Patience and self-regulation is the need of the hour. Let us not panic. Please try to stay inside your homes and do not venture out unless it is essential. Always wear masks and practise social distancing. Let us break this virus chain at the earliest and bring back normalcy. We are all facing a huge challenge and we have to face this unitedly. भारत में मंगलवार को 1,84,372 नए कोविड मामले सामने आए। यह एक दिन में सबसे ज्यादा था। एक दिन में सबसे ज्यादा कोरोना केस के मामले में भारत अमेरिका के बाद अब ब्राज़ील को पीछे छोड़ कर अब दुनिया में दूसरे नंबर पर आ गया है। अमेरिका में इस साल 8 जनवरी को 3.09 लाख मामले सामने आए थे। यह विश्व रिकॉर्ड है।

भारत इस समय कोरोना के कुल केस के मामले में दुनिया में दूसरे स्थान पर हैं और एक्टिव कोविड केस के मामले में तीसरे नंबर पर है। मंगलवार को ही भारत में 1,000 से ज्यादा मरीजों को कोरोना के कारण अपनी जान गंवानी पड़ी। भारत में इससे पहले एक हजार मौतों का आंकड़ा 2 अक्टूबर को सामने आया था जब कोरोना की पहली लहर पूरे उफान पर थी।

देश की राजधानी दिल्ली में मंगलवार को कोरोना के 13,468 मामले सामने आए। भारत के किसी भी शहर में अभी तक एक दिन में इससे ज्यादा मामले नहीं आए हैं। दिल्ली में पॉजिटिविटी रेट भी बढ़कर 13.1 प्रतिशत तक पहुंच गया है और अस्पतालों के बिस्तर कोरोना के मरीजों से भरते चले जा रहे हैं। दिल्ली में वेंटिलेटर वाले कोविड बेड 90 प्रतिशत तक भर चुके हैं जबकि बिना वेंटिलेटर वाले 82 प्रतिशत कोविड बेड पर मरीज लेटे हुए हैं। LNJP, राजीव गांधी, विमहांस, होली फैमिली, मैक्स पटपड़गंज और शालीमार बाग में फिलहाल एक भी कोविड वेंटिलेटर बेड उपलब्ध नहीं है।

महाराष्ट्र में मुख्यमंत्री उद्धव ठाकरे ने बुधवार रात 8 बजे से 1 मई तक राजव्यापी कर्फ्यू लगाने का ऐलान किया है। इस कर्फ्यू से सिर्फ आवश्यक सेवाओं से जुड़े लोगों और छूट वाली कैटिगरी के लोगों को ही सार्वजनिक स्थानों पर आवाजाही की इजाजत दी गई है। आवश्यक वस्तुएं और सेवाएं प्रदान करने वाली दुकानों को भी कर्फ्यू से छूट दी गई है। ठाकरे ने कहा, ‘कोरोना वायरस के खिलाफ युद्ध एक बार फिर शुरू हो गया है, लेकिन इस बार हालात पिछले साल के मुकाबले बदतर हैं। इसलिए हम महाराष्ट्र में लॉकडाउन जैसी पाबंदियां लगा रहे हैं। मैं लोगों से आग्रह करता हूं कि वे इसे जनता कर्फ्यू की तरह मानें और इसका सख्ती से पालन करें।’

यह हकीकत है कि कोई भी पूरा लॉकडाउन नहीं चाहता। इससे कारोबार और अर्थव्यवस्था को भारी नुकसान पहुंचता है, मध्यम और गरीब वर्ग के लोगों को अपनी नौकरी और दिहाड़ी मजदूरी से हाथ धोना पड़ता है। एक ताजा अध्ययन में कहा गया है कि अकेले महाराष्ट्र में अगर पूरा लॉकडाउन लागू हुआ तो इससे 40,000 करोड़ रुपये का नुकसान होगा। कृषि, सर्विस, होटल, टूर एंड ट्रैवल इंडस्ट्री को जबर्दस्त नुकसान पहुंचेगा। मैन्युफैंक्चरिंग और कंस्ट्रक्शन सेक्टर में 11 प्रतिशत से भी ज्यादा की गिरावट आ सकती है। भारत की कुल GDP में महाराष्ट्र की हिस्सेदारी 14 प्रतिशत की है। यदि ये सारे उद्योग बन्द रहे, तो लाखों मजदूरों को अपनी रोज़ी-रोटी से हाथ धोना पड़ सकता है।

लॉकडाउन की आशंका के कारण मुम्बई और गुरुग्राम में हजारों प्रवासी मजदूरों ने अपना साजो-सामान समेट लिया है और वे ट्रेन एवं बसों के जरिए अपने घरों की तरफ निकल पड़े हैं। अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में मंगलवार को हमने दिखाया था कि कैसे हरियाणा के गुरुग्राम के अलावा मुंबई के लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनस और अन्य स्टेशनों पर हजारों प्रवासी डेरा डाले हुए हैं। भारतीय रेलवे ने अस्पतालों में बेड की भारी कमी के चलते महाराष्ट्र सरकार को 22 कोच उपलब्ध कराए हैं जिन्हें कोविड आइसोलेशन सेंटर के रूप में ढाला गया है।

राष्ट्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र की बात करें तो दिल्ली के साथ-साथ पड़ोसी राज्यों हरियाणा और उत्तर प्रदेश में नाइट कर्फ्यू लगाया गया है। इसके चलते प्रवासी मजदूरों के मन में यह आशंका घर कर गई है कि उनके कारखाने बंद हो सकते हैं, जबकि फिलहाल ऐसा कुछ नहीं है। चैत्र नवरात्र के पहले दिन मिर्जापुर (उत्तर प्रदेश) के मां विंध्यवासिनी मंदिर के बाहर, कटरा के पास स्थित माता वैष्णो देवी मंदिर एवं अन्य धार्मिक स्थलों पर भारी भीड़ देखने को मिली। हरिद्वार में चल रहे कुंभ मेले के दौरान हजारों लोगों ने पवित्र स्नान किया। यह बताने की जरूरत नहीं है कि इस तरह के सामूहिक जुटान सिर्फ महामारी को अपने पांव पसारने में मदद करते हैं, जो कि पहले ही काफी तेजी से फैलती जा रही है।

उधर, अस्पतालों और श्मशानों के दृश्य दिल दहला देने वाले हैं। सूरत क्रेमेटोरियम की विशाल लोहे की चिमनियां कोरोना चौबीसों घंटे इस्तेमाल होने के कारण पिघलने लगी हैं। सूरत के कब्रिस्तानों में मृतकों को दफनाने के लिए जेसीबी मशीनों का इस्तेमाल कर खुदाई हो रही है । मुंबई के सायन श्मशान में शवों के अंतिम संस्कार के लिए इंतजार करना पड़ रहा है क्योंकि वहां लगातार दाह संस्कार चल रहा है। रांची के हरमू श्मशान में लकड़ी ढोने वाले 25 ट्रैक्टरों का इंतजाम करना पड़ा क्योंकि बिजली से चलने वाली क्रेमेटिरयम मशीन खराब हो गयी थी। इस श्मशान में पिछले 2 दिनों में 52 शवों का अंतिम संस्कार किया गया । छत्तीसगढ़ की राजधानी रायपुर में बी. आर. आंबेडकर अस्पताल के मुर्दाघर में 40 कोरोना मरीजों के शव खुले में पड़े थे, क्योंकि पूरा मुर्दाघर लाशों से भरा हुआ था।

देश के बाकी राज्यों में भी हालात बद से बदतर होते जा रहे हैं। उत्तर प्रदेश में संक्रमण के नए मामलों की संख्या मंगलवार को 18,021 तक पहुंच गई। मुख्यमंत्री सहित उनके कार्यालय के कई बड़े नौकरशाह कोविड पॉजिटिव पाए गए हैं। महाराष्ट्र में मंगलवार को सबसे ज्यादा 60,212 नए मामले सामने आए।

यहां मैं एक सुझाव देना चाहता हूं। नए मामलों की संख्या में आए उछाल पर ज्यादा चिंता करने की जरूरत नहीं है। यदि हम सभी स्वनियमन का पालन करें, और यह तय कर लें कि कम से कम अगले 2 सप्ताह तक अपने घरों से तब तक बाहर नहीं निकलेंगे जब तक कि यह बहुत जरूरी न हो, तो हम इस महामारी को फैलने से रोक सकते हैं।

याद रखें, अगर हम अपने घरों में बन्द रहें तो हम तेजी से फैलने वाले इस वायरस की चेन को तोड़ सकते हैं। यदि यह चेन अगले 2 या 3 हफ्ते तक टूटी रही तो कोरोना के नए मामलों में कमी आने लगेगी। यदि आपको किसी जरूरी काम के लए घर से बाहर जाना ही पड़े, तो ज़रूर मास्क पहनें। दिल्ली में 3 महीने पहले मुश्किल से 80 से 90 नए मामले सामने आ रहे थे, और अब यह 14,000 के आंकड़े की तरफ बढ़ रहा है। अगर हम सभी आत्म संयम रखें और अपने घरों में रहें, तो नए मामले निश्चित तौर पर घट कर सौ के करीब आ जाएंगे।

यदि हम आत्म संयम बरतने में सफल हुए तो हमें श्मशानों और अस्पतालों में हृदयविदारक दृश्य देखने को नहीं मिलेंगे। लाशों पर केरोसिन छिडक कर उनमें आग लगाये जाने, मुर्दाघरों के बाहर खुले में लाशों के पड़े होने, या अस्पतालों के फर्श पर लेटे, मौत से जूझते मरीजों के खौफनाक मंजर नहीं देखने होंगे। अगर हम अपने घरों में खुद को 2 हफ्तों के लिए बन्द रखें, तो सरकारी और प्राइवेट अस्पतालों पर बोझ नहीं पड़ेगा। वे अपना काम आसानी से कर सकेंगे और मरीजों को मौत से बचा सकेंगे। ICU बेड सिर्फ उन्हीं मरीजों को दिया जाना चाहिए जिन्हें इसकी तत्काल ज़रूरत हो।

यदि आप चाहते हैं कि दिल्ली, उत्तर प्रदेश या गुजरात में लॉकडाउन न लगे, तो आपको आत्म नियंत्रण का पालन करना होगा और अपने घरों के अंदर रहना होगा। ये वक्त का तक़ाज़ा है। इससे हम दूसरों की मदद कर सकेंगे। व्यवसाय एवं उद्योग बंद नहीं होंगे और प्रवासी मजदूरों को शहरों से बाहर नहीं जाना पड़ेगा। यदि हम कोरोना वायरस की चेन को तोड़ने में सफल हो गए, तो हमारे बच्चे एक बार फिर स्कूल जा सकेंगे और इम्तहान दे सकेंगे। हालात के ठीक होते ही हम अपने त्योहारों को पूरे उत्साह के साथ मना सकेंगे।

याद रखें, महामारी उन राष्ट्रों पर असर डालने में नाकाम रही जहां इस तरह के आत्म निय़ंत्रण को सख्ती से लागू किया गया, भीड़ पर पाबंदी लगा दी गई , ज्यादा से ज्यदा लोगों को टीके लगाए गए, और इससे मृत्यु दर में कमी आ गई। हमारा देश विशाल है, और सभी भारतीयों को टीका लगाने में लंबा समय लगेगा। आत्मनियंत्रण वक्त की जरूरत है। यदि हम खुद को और अपने परिवार को बचाना चाहते हैं तो आत्म संयम बरतते हुए अगले कुछ हफ्तों तक घरों के अंदर रहें। इसके जल्द अच्छे नतीजे आएंगे।

With the biggest ever single day spike of 1,84,372 fresh cases, India on Tuesday became the second nation in the world after the USA to have recorded the highest single-day spike. The USA had recorded 3.09 cases on a single day on January 8 this year. India has now become the second worst-hit country in the world in terms of recorded Covid cases and third worst-hit nation in terms of active Covid cases. A total of more than 1,000 Covid-related deaths took place on Tuesday alone across India. The daily casualty figure crossed 1,000 for the first time since October 2 when the first wave was at its peak.

The national capital Delhi recorded nearly 13,500 (13,468) Covid cases on Tuesday, the worst ever for any city in India. The positivity rate in Delhi has jumped to 13.1 per cent, and beds are running out in hospitals. Ninety per cent of Covid beds with ventilators in Delhi are occupied and 82 per cent of Covid beds without ventilators are now occupied. LNJP, Rajiv Gandhi, Vimhans, Holy Family, Max, Patparganj and Shalimar Bagh have no Covid ventilator beds now available.

In Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced virtual curfew across the state from Wednesday 8 pm till May 1. Except those involved in essential services and those categories exempted, will be allowed to move in public places. Only shops providing essential services will remain open. “The war on Covid-19 has begun, but this time the situation is worse than last year. And so we are imposing lockdown-like restrictions in Maharashtra. I urged the people to treat it like a Janata Curfew and follow it strictly”, Thackeray said.

It’s true nobody wants a complete lockdown to be enforced, it hits business and economy hard, while middle class and poorer sections of people lose their jobs and daily wages. One latest study has said that if a complete lockdown is enforced in Maharashtra alone, it will cause losses to the tune of Rs 40,000 crore. Agriculture, service, hotel, tour and travel industry will take a hard hit. Manufacturing and construction sectors may record a decline by more than 11 per cent. Maharashtra accounts for 14 per cent of India’s GDP. Lakhs of workers may lose their jobs if these industries come to a grinding halt.

Already, thousands of migrant workers, fearing a complete lockdown, have packed up their bags and are moving towards their home states by trains and buses. In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Tuesday evening, we showed how thousands of migrants congregated near Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and other stations in Mumbai, apart from stations in Gurugram, Haryana. The Indian Railways have provided 22 coaches refurbished as Covid isolation centres to the Maharashtra government, as there is acute shortage of beds in hospitals.

In the National Capital Region, night curfew has been imposed in Delhi and neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. This has led to fear among migrant workers, who feel that their factories may be shut down, though this is not the case presently. On Day One of Chaitra Navratra, there were huge crowds outside the famous Vindhyavasini temple in Mirzapur (UP), at the famous Vaishno Devi temple near Katra, and other religious shrines. Thousands took a holy dip during the ongoing Kumbh Mela at Haridwar. There is no gainsaying the fact that such mass congregations can only act as force multiplier for the pandemic virus, that is spreading fast.

The scenes in hospitals and crematoriums are heart rending. Huge chimneys at the Surat electric crematorium have started melting due to round-the-clock use for cremating Covid-19 victims. JCB machines are being used to bury the dead in the cemeteries of Surat. At the Sion crematorium in Mumbai, bodies are being kept waiting for cremation, as non-stop funeral rites are in progress. At the Harmu crematorium in Ranchi, 25 tractors carrying wood had to be brought as the electric crematorium went out of order. 52 bodies were cremated during the last two days at this crematorium. At the B R Ambedkar hospital mortuary in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, 40 bodies of Covid victims were lying in the open, as the mortuary was packed with dead bodies.

The situation is becoming scarier in other states too. The number of fresh Covid cases in Uttar Pradesh jumped to 18,021, with several top bureaucrats in the Chief Minister’s Office being tested positive. Maharashtra, at the top of the tally, recorded 60,212 fresh Covid cases on Tuesday.

Here I want to give one suggestion. There is no need to worry much over the spike in fresh cases. If all of us decide to impose self-regulation on ourselves, and if we decide that we shall not move outside our homes for at least two weeks, unless it is very essential, we can manage to control the spread of this pandemic.

Remember, by staying inside our homes, we can break the chain of this fast spreading virus. If this chain is broken for at least two to three weeks, the number of fresh Covid cases will start declining. If at all you have to move outside for some essential work, do wear a mask. Three months ago, there were hardly 80 to 90 fresh Covid cases daily in Delhi, and now it is inching towards the 14,000 mark. If all of us decide to impose self-regulation and stay in our homes, the number of cases will surely drop to 100.

If we confine ourselves to our homes, we shall not see these scary visuals of bodies being cremated by pouring fuel, or of bodies lying in the open outside mortuaries, or of patients struggling to breathe, but lying on the floor of hospitals. If we isolate ourselves dedicatedly in our homes for at least two weeks, there will be no big load on government or private hospitals. They can do their work with ease, and help patients to recover. ICU beds must be given to only those patients, who require them urgently.

If you want to avoid lockdowns in Delhi, UP or Gujarat, you must self-regulate yourselves and stay inside your homes. This disciplined self-regulation will help others too. Businesses and industry will not close and migrant labourers will not have to move out of cities. If we succeed in breaking the chain of Coronavirus, our children may then be able to return to schools and give examinations. If the situation eases, we can celebrate our festivals with vigour.

Remember, the pandemic failed to impact those nations, while strictly enforced this type of self-regulation, avoided mass gatherings, vaccinated most of their people and the death toll dipped. Ours is a vast nation, and it will take a long time to vaccinate all Indians. Self-control is the need of the hour. If we want to save ourselves and our family, self-regulation by staying inside our homes for the next few weeks is bound to give positive results soon.

सोमवार को देशभर में कोरोना वायरस से संक्रमण के 1,61,736 नए मामले सामने आए, जबकि 879 लोगों की मौत हुई। भारत में इस बीमारी के चलते अपनी जान गंवाने वाले मरीजों की कुल संख्या अब 1,71,058 हो गई है, और पिछले 2 महीनों में इसमें तेज बढ़ोत्तरी देखने को मिली है।

सोमवार को महाराष्ट्र में एक बार फिर सबसे ज्यादा 51,751 नए मामले सामने आए और 258 मरीजों की मौत हो गई। उत्तर प्रदेश, बिहार, मध्य प्रदेश, छत्तीसगढ़, राजस्थान और हरियाणा जैसे हिंदी भाषी राज्यों में महामारी अब तेजी से फैल रही है। बिहार में संक्रमण के नए मामलों की संख्या में 4 गुना उछाल आया है।

नए मामलों की संख्या में गिरावट का कोई संकेत नहीं है। सोमवार को कर्नाटक में 9,579 नए मामले सामने आए जिनमें अकेले बेंगलुरु से 6,387 संक्रमित मिले। राष्ट्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली में भी महामारी बढ़ती जा रही है। यहां सोमवार को 11,491 नए संक्रमित मिले और 72 मरीजों की जान गई। उत्तर प्रदेश में कुल 13,685 नए मामले सामने आए। सूबे की राजधानी लखनऊ में 3,892 और प्रयागराज में 1,295 लोग वायरस से संक्रमित पाए गए।

गुजरात में संक्रमण के 6,021 नए मामले सामने आए और 55 लोगों की मौत हुई, बंगाल में 4,511 नए संक्रमित मिले, जबकि मध्य प्रदेश में 6,489, तमिलनाडु में 6,711, राजस्थान में 5,771 और आंध्र प्रदेश में 3,263 नए लोगों में वायरस का संक्रमण पाया गया। शहरों की बात करें तो मुंबई में सोमवार को 6,905 नए मामले सामने आए और 43 लोगों की मौत हुई जबकि नागपुर में 5,661 नए संक्रमित मिले और 69 मरीजों की जान चली गई। कुल मिलाकर कहा जा सकता है कि पूरे देश में हालात चिंताजनक हैं।

महामारी से प्रभावित राज्यों के अधिकांश अस्पताल कोविड-19 के मरीजों से लगभग भर गए हैं और वहां नए मरीजों के लिए मुश्किल से जगह बची है। देश के विभिन्न राज्यों से मुर्दाघरों और श्मशानों में लाशों के ढेर लगने की खबरें सामने आ रही हैं। सोमवार की रात अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने एक खबर दिखाई थी कि कैसे झारखंड के गोड्डा जिले में एक गांव के सारे लोगों ने कोविड के संक्रमण के डर से एक बुजुर्ग की लाश को कंधा देने से इनकार कर दिया था। बुजुर्ग करीलाल महतो की मौत अपने घर में हार्ट अटैक से हुई थी। उनका बेटा, जो कि कोरोना का मरीज है, अस्पताल में भर्ती है। इस बारे में खबर होने पर प्रशासन ने एक ऐम्बुलेंस भेजी और PPE किट पहने हुए सरकारी कर्मचारी शव को दाह संस्कार के लिए ले गए।

गुजरात के सूरत में परिम शाह नाम का एक युवक अपनी मां भद्रा शाह को सांस लेने में दिक्कत की शिकायत के बाद कई अस्पतालों में लेकर गया। इलाज के अभाव में बेटे की आंखों के सामने मां ने दम तोड़ दिया। इससे भी ज्यादा दिल दुखाने वाली बात ये है कि मां के शव को श्मशान तक ले जाने के लिए परिम शाह को ऐंबुलेंस तक नहीं मिली। परिम शाह को अपनी मां के शव को ठेले पर रखकर श्मशान ले जाना पड़ा। उन्होंने कहा कि उन्हें किसी भी अस्पताल में ऐम्बुलेंस नहीं मिल पाई।

महाराष्ट्र के धुले जिले में कोरोना के मरीज विष्णु ठाकुर की लाश को ऐम्बुलेंस उपलब्ध न होने के चलते कूड़ा ढोने वाली गाड़ी में डाल कर श्मशान ले जाना पड़ा। यह कड़वी हकीकत है कि कोरोना के डर ने सिर्फ इंसानों को नहीं मारा है, उस इंसानियत को भी मार दिया है जो हमारे देश के लोगों में सदियों से जिंदा रही है।

भोपाल, लखनऊ, नागपुर और रायपुर के श्मशानों में लाशों के ढेर लगने लगे हैं, और अपने प्रियजनों के दाह संस्कार के लिए परिजनों को घंटों इंतजार करना पड़ रहा है। सूरत का एक पुराना श्मशान, जिसे 30 साल पहले बंद कर दिया गया था, शवों की बड़ी संख्या को देखते हुए अब फिर से तैयार किया जा रहा है। भोपाल में एक श्मशान घाट पर रोजाना औसतन 40 से ज्यादा शवों का दाह संस्कार हो रहा है।

भोपाल के विश्राम घाट श्मशान में रविवार को 49 शवों का अंतिम संस्कार किया गया। इसके बावजूद कई शव श्मशान के बाहर ऐंबुलेंसों में पड़े हुए थे। श्मशान घाट के केयरटेकर को बाद में मजबूर होकर 2 सरकारी अस्पतालों से अपील करनी पड़ी कि वे अब कोई और शव न भेजें। सूरत के श्मशानों में 24 घंटे शव जलाने के बाद जगह नहीं हो रही है और अंतिम संस्कार के लिए 10 से 15 घंटे इंतजार करना पड़ रहा है।

अस्पतालों में अराजक स्थिति है। बेड उपलब्ध नहीं होने की वजह से कोरोना के मरीज कहीं फर्श पर, कहीं स्ट्रेचर पर तो कहीं कुर्सियों पर बैठे मिल रहे हैं। मुंबई के मशहूर लीलावती अस्पताल की 8वीं मंजिल पर स्थित कोविड वॉर्ड का ICU अब बढ़ते मरीजों की तादाद को संभालने में असमर्थ है। कोविड वॉर्ड मरीजों से भर चुका है और बेड खाली नहीं हैं। जगह की कमी के चलते कुछ बेड्स को लाकर अस्पताल की लॉबी में लगाना पड़ा।

अहमदनगर जिला अस्पताल में कोरोना के 2 मरीजों की जान इसलिए चली गई क्योंकि 15 मिनट तक ऑक्सीजन की सप्लाई बंद हो गई थी। महाराष्ट्र के चंद्रपुर में कोरोना के मरीज 40 डिग्री की गर्मी में सरकारी अस्पताल के सामने फुटपाथ पर लेटे हुए थे। जब फुटपाथ पर लेटे हुए बुजुर्ग मरीज का वीडियो वायरल हुआ, तब जाकर अस्पताल प्रशासन ने जल्दबाजी दिखाते हुए बुजुर्ग को भर्ती तो कर लिया, लेकिन वेंटिलेटर बेड की कमी की वजह से उनकी हालत गंभीर बनी हुई है।

गरीब और मध्यम वर्ग के लोग सबसे ज्यादा मुश्किलों का सामना कर रहे हैं। जब उनका टेस्ट पॉजिटिव आता है तो उनके लिए अस्पताल में बेड मिलने में मुश्किलें पेश आती हैं। अगर सभी मरीजों को अस्पतालों में बेड मिल भी जाए तो ऑक्सीजन या वेंटिलेटर मिलना मुश्किल होता है। अगर कोई महामारी के चलते दम तोड़ दे, तो लाश को मुर्दाघर से श्मशान तक ले जाने के लिए गाड़ी खोज पाना एक और मुश्किल काम है।

श्मशानों में सम्मानजनक अंतिम संस्कार की व्यवस्था करना एक और कठिन काम है। वायरस के डर के चलते इस समय कम ही लोग हैं जो जरूरतमंदों की मदद के लिए तैयार हो रहे हैं। शहरों में रहने वाले गरीब और प्रवासी मजदूर लॉकडाउन के डर के साए में जी रहे हैं, क्योंकि वे जानते हैं कि यदि ऐसा हुआ तो उनकी नौकरी और कमाई का जरिया चला जाएगा। उनके लिए अपने गृहनगर या गांवों को लौटना एक और मुश्किल काम है।

जिन सीनियर डॉक्टरों से मैंने बात की है उन्होंने मुझसे कहा कि यदि लोग कोविड प्रोटोकॉल्स का सख्ती से पालन करें, मास्क पहनें, सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग बनाकर रखें और नियमित अंतराल पर अपने हाथ धोएं तो इस महामारी को 4 से 5 हफ्तों में काबू में किया जा सकता है। वायरस की चेन को तोड़ना ही होगा। जहां तक कोविड वैक्सीन का सवाल है, तो यह कहना आसान है कि सभी वयस्कों को वैक्सीन लगाई जानी चाहिए। यदि 18 से ऊपर की उम्र के सभी वयस्कों को वैक्सीन लगाई जानी हो, तो हमें लगभग 100 करोड़ भारतीयों के वैक्सीनेशन के लिए 200 करोड़ डोज की जरूरत पड़ेगी।

ऐसे में यदि भारत दुनियाभर में बनने वाली सारी वैक्सीन भी खरीद ले, तो भी कमी बनी रहेगी। अच्ती खबर यह है कि रूस की स्पुतनिक-वी वैक्सीन को भारत में आपातकालीन इस्तेमाल के लिए मंजूरी दे दी गई है, और इसे जल्द ही भारतीय फार्मा कंपनी द्वारा निर्मित और वितरित किया जाएगा। उम्मीद करते हैं कि आगे सब अच्छा होगा।

The number of daily fresh cases in India on Monday stood at 1,61,736, while 879 deaths were reported from across the country. The death toll in India has now reached 1,71,058, with incremental jumps in the last two months.

Maharashtra continues to lead the tally with 51,751 new cases and 258 deaths reported on Monday. The pandemic is now spreading fast in the Hindi speaking hinterland states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Haryana. There has been a four times jump in the number of fresh cases reported from Bihar.

There is no sign of decline in the number of fresh cases. On Monday, Karnataka reported 9,579 cases out of which Bengaluru accounted for 6,387. The pandemic is surging in the national capital Delhi which reported 11,491 cases and 72 deaths on Monday. Uttar Pradesh reported 13,685 new cases, with Lucknow (3892) and Prayagraj (1295) leading.

Gujarat reported 6,021 new cases and 55 deaths, West Bengal 4,511 new cases, Madhya Pradesh 6,489, Tamil Nadu 6,711, Rajasthan 5,771, and Andhra Pradesh 3,263. Among the cities, Mumbai reported 6,905 new cases and 43 deaths on Monday, while Nagpur reported 5,661 new cases and 69 deaths. All in all, a gloomy scenario across India.

With most of the hospitals in pandemic-hit states almost full with Covid-19 patients, reports are pouring in from different states of bodies piling up in morgues and crematoriums. In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Monday night, we showed a report of how an entire village in Jharkhand’s Godda district, refused to carry out cremation of an old man fearing Covid infection. The old man Karilal Mahto had died of heart attack in his home. His son, a Covid patient, was in hospital. When news reached the local administration, an ambulance was sent, and frontline workers wearing PPE kits, took the body for cremation.

In Surat, Gujarat, a young man, Parim Shah, took his mother, Bhadra Shah, to different hospitals after she complained of breathing. The woman died, there was no ambulance, and Parim Shah had to take her body in a hand cart to a crematorium. Parim said, he failed to find a single ambulance from any hospital.

In Dhule district of Maharashtra, the body of a Covid patient, Vishnu Thakur, was taken to a crematorium in a garbage truck due to non-availability of ambulance. The Corona epidemic has not only taken a heavy toll of human lives, but has also corroded the innate sense of humanity that has been existing among our countrymen for centuries.

In the crematoriums in Bhopal, Lucknow, Nagpur and Raipur, bodies have started to pile up, and relatives are waiting for hours to cremate their loved ones. An old crematorium that was shut down in Surat 30 years ago, is now being refurbished to handle the large number of bodies. A single crematorium in Bhopal is handling more than 40 bodies on average daily.

At the Vishram Ghat crematorium in Bhopal, 49 bodies were cremated on Sunday, with more waiting outside in ambulances. The caretaker of the crematorium had to request two government hospitals not to send any more bodies. Bodies are being cremated round-the-clock in Surat crematoriums, with more in waiting.

The situation in hospitals is chaotic. Covid patients are lying on the floor, some on stretchers, others sitting on chairs, as beds are simply not available. The Covid dedicated ICU on the 8th floor of Mumbai’s famous Lilavati Hospital, is simply unable to handle more patients. The Covid ward is packed with patients, and beds are not available. Some beds had to be shifted to the hospital lobby due to lack of space.

In Ahmednagar district hospital, two Covid patients died because oxygen supply was suspended for nearly 15 minutes. In Chandrapur, Maharashtra, Covid patients were lying on footpath outside the government hospital in 40 degree heat. When video of the patient lying on footpath became viral, the hospital administration hurriedly admitted the old patient, but he is still suffering due to lack of ventilator.

People belonging to the poor and middle classes are the hardest hit. Once they are tested positive, it is an uphill task for them to get a bed in a hospital. If at all they get a bed, it becomes difficult to get oxygen or a ventilator. If one succumbs to the pandemic, getting a vehicle to transport the body from the morgue to the crematorium is another tough task.

At the crematorium, it is another uphill task to arrange for a decent funeral. Because of the fear of the virus, there are few people who are ready to help the needy. The poor and migrant workers living in the cities, live in dread of lockdown, because they know that they will lose their jobs and earnings. It is another uphill task for them to again return to their hometowns or villages.

Senior doctors and experts I spoke to, told me that if people observe Covid protocols strictly – wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and frequently washing their hands – the pandemic can be controlled in four to five weeks. The virus chains have to be broken. As far as Covid vaccines are concerned, it is easy to say that all adults must be vaccinated. If all adults above the age of 18 years have to be vaccinated, we need at least 200 crore doses to administer to nearly 100 crore Indians.

Even if India procures all the vaccines that are being manufactured across the world, it will be insufficient. The good news is that the Russian Sputnik V vaccine has been approved for emergency use in India, and it will soon be manufactured and distributed by an Indian pharma company. Let us keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय ने शनिवार को बताया कि शुक्रवार को भारत में कोरोना वायरस से संक्रमण के रिकॉर्ड 1,45,384 नए मामले सामने आए हैं। यह एक दिन में कोविड-19 के नए मामलों में आया अब तक का सबसे बड़ा उछाल है। शुक्रवार को कोरोना वायरस के कारण 794 और लोगों की मौत हो गई, जिससे इस बीमारी के चलते अपनी जान गंवाने वाले मरीजों की कुल संख्या बढ़कर 1,68,436 हो गई है। कोरोना वायरस के ऐक्टिव मामलों की संख्या ने 6 महीने के गैप के बाद एक बार फिर 10 लाख के आंकड़े को पार कर लिया है।

भारत की वित्तीय राजधानी मुंबई शुक्रवार की शाम वीरान नजर आई, और इसने मार्च 2020 की यादें ताजा कर दीं जब पूरे देश में लॉकडाउन लगाया गया था। महाराष्ट्र में कोरोना वायरस का कहर जारी है, और यहां शुक्रवार को 58,993 नए संक्रमित मिले हैं। मुंबई के धारावी, दादर और माहिम जैसे इलाकों में बीते कुछ हफ्तों में कोरोना के लगभग 20,000 मामले सामने आए हैं।

देश की राजधानी दिल्ली में भी कोरोना के नए मामलों में उछाल जारी है और यहां 8,521 नए केस मिले हैं जबकि 39 मरीजों की मौत हो गई। बाकी के राज्यों की बात करें तो शुक्रवार को केरल में 5,063, कर्नाटक में 7,955, राजस्थान में3,970, तमिलनाडु में 5,441, गुजरात में 4,541, बिहार में 2,174, पंजाब में 3,459, हरियाणा में 2,994, और मध्य प्रदेश में 4,882 नए मामले सामने आए हैं।

राजस्थान की सरकार ने सूबे के 9 शहरों, अजमेर, अलवर, भीलवाड़ा, चित्तौड़गढ़, डूंगरपुर, जयपुर, जोधपुर, कोटा और अबु रोड में 30 अप्रैत तक रात के 8 बजे से सुबह 6 बजे तक नाइट कर्फ्यू लगा दिया है। लखनऊ में 2 पब्लिक स्कूलों को कोविड-19 प्रोटोकॉल का उल्लंघन करने के आरोप में सील कर दिया गया है। भोपाल के एम्स अस्पताल में 53 स्वास्थ्यकर्मी कोरोना संक्रमित मिले हैं जिनमें 2 डॉक्टर, 38 मेडिकल स्टूडेंट्स और 13 हेल्थकेयर वर्कर्स शामिल हैं।

कुल मिलाकर तस्वीर डराने वाली है। दिल्ली के एम्स, सर गंगाराम हॉस्पिटल और केजीएमयू हॉस्पिटल जैसे बड़े-बड़े अस्पतालों के 100 से ज्यादा डॉक्टर्स पॉजिटिव पाए गए हैं। मुंबई और नागपुर जैसे बड़े शहरों में हॉस्पिटल भरने लगे हैं, ICU बेड कम पड़ रहे हैं, मरीजों को वेंटिलेटर नहीं मिल रहे हैं और ऑक्सीजन की शॉर्टेज हैं। मध्य प्रदेश में मरीजों के परिवार वाले डॉक्टर का प्रिस्क्रिप्शन लेकर एक मेडिकल शॉप से दूसरी शॉप पर घूम रहे हैं लेकिन रेमडेसिवीर इंजेक्शन नहीं मिल रहा है। इस इंजेक्शन का इस्तेमाल कोरोना के मरीजों में फेफड़ों के इंफेक्शन को कंट्रोल करने में होता है, लेकिन केमिस्ट की दुकानों से यह दवाई गायब है।

AIIMS में 26 स्वास्थ्यकर्मी कोरोना वायरस से संक्रमित हो गए जिनमें 20 डॉक्टर और 2 फैकल्टी मेंबर शामिल हैं जबकि बाकी रेजिडेंट डॉक्टर्स हैं। इसी तरह वाराणसी के BHU अस्पताल के 17 डॉक्टरों को कोरोना का इंफेक्शन हो गया और फिलहाल ये सभी आइसोलेशन में हैं। लखनऊ के KGMU हॉस्पिटल में 40 कोरोना की चपेट में आ गए। इसी तरह दिल्ली के सर गंगाराम अस्पताल में एक मार्च से लेकर अब तक, यानी पिछले 9 दिनों में 37 डॉक्टरों को इस वायरस ने अपनी चपेट में लिया।

इतने सारे डॉक्टरों और स्वास्थ्यकर्मियों के बीमार पड़ने की वजह से हेल्थ केयर सिस्टम की हालत खराब होनी तय है। राहत की बात सिर्फ इतनी सी है कि बीमार हुए ज्यादातर डॉक्टरों को हल्के लक्षण हैं, वे आइसोलेशन में हैं और इलाज चल रहा है। कोरोना की वैक्सीन लेने की वजह से वे सुरक्षित हैं।

नागपुर के अस्पतालों में अब बिस्तर खाली नहीं हैं और कोरोना से संक्रमित मरीज इलाज के लिए अमरावती जा रहे हैं। नागपुर से अमरावती ले जाने के लिए ऐम्बुलेंस के ड्राइवर मरीजों से मनमानी कीमत वसूल रहे हैं और प्रति ट्रिप 10 से 12 हजार रुपये तक चार्ज कर रहे हैं। पुणे, मुंबई और नासिक अस्पतालों में लगभग सभी बेड भरे हुए हैं। कुछ अस्पतालों में तो कोरोना के मरीज फर्श पर लेटे हुए हैं। अस्पतालों में ऑक्सीजन और वेंटिलेटर की भारी कमी है।

अकेले मुंबई में कोविड के 90 हजार से ज्यादा ऐक्टिव केस हैं, और 8-10 हजार नए मरीज रोज सामने आ रहे हैं। ऐसी रिपोर्ट्स आई हैं कि अस्पतालों में कई ऐसे कोरोना मरीज इलाज करा रहे हैं, जो एसिम्टोमैटिक हैं। ऐसे मरीजों को अस्पताल में भर्ती होने की जरूरत ही नहीं है। ये मरीज घर पर रहकर और फोन पर डॉक्टरों की सलाह से इलाज के द्वारा 2 हफ्ते में ठीक हो सकते हैं। इसके चलते गंभीर रूप से बीमार उन मरीजों की मदद हो जाएगी जिन्हें आईसीयू बेड की सख्त जरूरत है।

हमने अपने प्राइम टाइम प्रोग्राम ‘आज की बात’ में दिखाया था कि पड़ोस के गुजरात में कोरोना के मरीजों को लेकर आईं 42 ऐम्बुलेंस उनको ऐडमिट कराने के लिए राजकोट के अस्पताल के बाहर लाइन लगाकर खड़ी थीं। उत्तर प्रदेश में मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ व्यक्तिगत तौर पर प्रयागराज, वाराणसी और लखनऊ में बनाए गए कोविड सेंटर्स के हालात का जायजा ले रहे हैं।

मुनाफाखोरों द्वारा रेमडेसिवीर इंजेक्शन की जमाखोरी की जा रही है और वे लोगों को इसे मनमानी कीमत पर बेच रहे हैं। आमतौर पर 5 हजार रुपये में मिलने वाली इसकी एक शीशी के 1.5 लाख रुपये तक वसूले जा रहे हैं। भोपाल में 28 हजार से ज्यादा ऐक्टिव केस हैं, और वहां मरीजों के परिजन रेमडेसिवीर इंजेक्शन खरीदने के लिए एक जगह से दूसरी जगह दौड़भाग कर रहे हैं। कुछ ऐसे ही हालात इंदौर में भी हैं। मुंबई पुलिस ने शुक्रवार को कालाबाजारी करने वाले 2 लोगों को जोगेश्वरी इलाके से गिरफ्तार किया। इनके पास से रेमडेसिवीर इंजेक्शन की 284 शीशियां मिलीं, जिनकी कीमत 14 लाख रुपये होगी।

महाराष्ट्र के अहमदनगर और औरंगाबाद में कोरोना के चलते अपनी जान गंवाने वाले लोगों के दाह संस्कार में श्मशानों को पसीने छूट रहे हैं। कब्रिस्तानों में जगह की भारी कमी है। महाराष्ट्र के बीड में एक श्मशान में एक चिता पर 8 शवों का अंतिम संस्कार किया गया।

महाराष्ट्र में कोरोना वायरस की वैक्सीन की कमी के कारण संकट बढ़ गया है। मुंबई के सबसे बड़े वैक्सीनेशन सेंटर BKC में वैक्सीन की डोज़ लेने आए लोगों को वापस जाना पड़ रहा है। यही नहीं नानावती, लीलावती, ब्रीच कैंडी समेत कई प्राइवेट अस्पतालों ने भी वैक्सीन देनी बंद कर दी है। नागपुर में सबसे बड़े वैक्सीनेशन सेंटर GMC हॉस्पिटल में वैक्सीन की कमी के चलते टीकाकरण को रोकना पड़ा है।

यह बात सही है कि कुछ जिलों में कोविड वैक्सीन की कमी है और इसे लगवाने आए लोगों को खाली हाथ वापस जाना पड़ रहा है। लेकिन देश में वैक्सीन की कमी नहीं है और सभी राज्यों को जरूरत के मुताबिक ये मिल रही है। कुछ मामलों में ऐसा हो सकता है कि वैक्सीन का स्टॉक समय पर टीकाकरण केंद्रों पर नहीं पहुंचा होगा जिससे वहां कमी हुई होगी। यह एक ऐसा मुद्दा है जो लोगों के जिंदगी और मौत से जुड़ा है, इसलिए इसे लेकर सियासत नहीं होनी चाहिए। वैक्सीन का स्टॉक बांटते हुए किसी भी राज्य के साथ कोई ‘सौतेला व्यवहार’ नहीं किया गया है।

महाराष्ट्र के स्वास्थ्य मंत्री ने शिकायत की कि उनके राज्य को गुजरात के बराबर वैक्सीन मिली, जबकि उनके राज्य की आबादी गुजरात से बहुत ज्यादा है। लेकिन उत्तर प्रदेश को भी इतनी ही वैक्सीन की सप्लाई हुई, जबकि वह देश में सबसे ज्यादा जनसंख्या वाला राज्य है और उसकी आबादी महाराष्ट्र से डबल है। राहुल गांधी अब वैक्सीन की ज्यादा सप्लाई की डिमांड कर रहे हैं। मुझे याद है कि जब टीकाकरण अभियान शुरू हुआ था तब कांग्रेस के बड़े-बड़े नेताओं ने इसी वैक्सीन की एफिकेसी पर सवाल उठाए थे। उन्होंने कहा था कि अगर वैक्सीन इतनी ही इफेक्टिव है तो सबसे पहले प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ही क्यों नहीं लगवा लेते। कांग्रेस शासित प्रदेशों के दो मुख्यमंत्रियों ने तो वैक्सीन लेने से ही मना कर दिया था।

मैं कहना चाहता हूं कि जो हुआ, सो हुआ, उसे भूल जाइए। अब कोरोना वैक्सीन पर सियासत नहीं होनी चाहिए, कोरोना पर सियासत नहीं होनी चाहिए। अगर महाराष्ट्र में कोरोना का कहर ज्यादा है, मरीज ज्यादा हैं, मुश्किलें बढ़ी हैं तो इसके लिए वहां की सरकार को दोष देना ठीक नहीं है। ऐसे ही अगर कहीं वैक्सीन की सप्लाई थोड़ी कम रह गई तो इसके लिए केंद्र सरकार को कठघरे में खड़ा करने की जरूरत नहीं है।

इस समय तो जरूरत है लोगों की परेशानियों को समझने की, सब तरह के लोगों को मिलकर कोरोना के खिलाफ लड़ने की, टेस्टिंग बढ़ाने की, ट्रेसिंग पर ध्यान देने की और लोगों को ये समझाने की कि बारी आने पर वैक्सीन लगावाना कितना जरूरी है। और हां, मास्क पहनने, सोशल डिस्टैंसिंग बनाए रखने और हाथों को नियमित अंतराल पर धोने जैसे कोविड प्रोटोकॉल्स का पालन जरूर करें।
