Reports about conversion of Sikh youths to Christianity by missionaries in the border areas of Punjab are disturbing. Most of these conversions have been reported from rural and border areas of Punjab like Batala, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Churian, Dera Baba Nanak, Majitha, Ajnala and Amritsar. The officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh has alleged that Christian missionaries have been carrying out conversions in these belts by luring poor Sikh youths.

In some cases, Sikh youths have been offered money and other allurements like visas for US and Canada. The president of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Bibi Jagir Kaur has launched a counter-drive by sending nearly 150 teams of Sikh preachers, who are trying to convince Sikh youths not to convert to other religions. There are seven preachers in each team and they have been sent to Majha, Malwa and Doaba regions of Punjab. The SGPC drive is named ‘Ghar Ghar Andar Dharamsaal’, which means ‘sacred shrine inside every home’.

Bibi Jagir Kaur has said, “our teams of preachers stay for a week in each village, they invite the Sikh Sangat to recitation of Gurbani, Sikh ‘rehat maryada’ (code of conduct), Sikh history and religious principles. Free religious literature on Sikhism is distributed to people to stop them from converting to other religions.”

Rising rate of conversions to Christianity has justifiably caused alarm among the Sikh clergy and intellectuals. To counter ‘prayer meetings’ by Christian evangelists, Sikh preachers assemble children inside gurudwaras every evening to teach them the correct recitation of Gurbani (religious hymns) and to create awareness about Sikh religion. The campaign concludes with ‘amrit sanchar’ (initiation rites) on the last day.

Christian missionaries are travelling in buses mostly in rural areas of Punjab bordering Pakistan, where they try to spread the gospel. They mostly concentrate on Dalit Mazhabi Sikhs and offer inducements for converting to Christianity. They conduct meetings in villages and induce Dalit Mazhabi Sikh youths to convert and enjoy a good life in developed countries like the US and Canada. Videos are being circulated on social media on how evangelists are trying to convert these Sikh youths, mostly in border areas. This has naturally raised concerns about national security.

In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Wednesday night, we showed a video sent by Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The video showed a village in Ludhiana district, where Sikh elderly persons confronted a team of Christian evangelists and asked them to leave the village. The missionaries were moving from house to house and asking people to convert. The elderly Sikhs in the village told the missionaries that Punjab is the land of the Tenth Badshah, and they need not spread the word of Christianity here.

Our correspondent Punit Parinja met a local Sikh leader Gurmail Singh of Dhanoor village, and asked him about the authenticity of the video. Gurmail Singh said, nearly 10 to 15 days ago, 25 to 30 Christian evangelists came to the village and started distributing pamphlets which stated, ‘Join us, we will take you on the path to God’. Some villagers told our reporter that the missionaries were offering jobs and money for converting to Christianity.

Akali leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa told India TV that missionaries have tried to lure Sikh youths by offering to arrange visas and get them settled in the US or Canada. He alleged that such evangelists are active in several districts of Punjab. The Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh said, “whatever is happening amounts to an attack on Sikh religion. Missionaries of Church are misguiding people and offering inducements. This is a big danger and Sikh samaj should come forward and fight this menace with full might.”

Our reporter showed the video to senior Punjab police officers. One police officer of DSP rank said, till now, they have not received any complaint about forced conversion from anybody, but since the video has surfaced, police would speak to villagers and probe the matter.

SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur told India TV that those who are harbouring illusions about converting Sikhs to their religion, should know that the roots of Sikh religion run very deep. Any amount of inducements will not help in religious conversions, she added.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “we are not in competition with any other religion, nor do we fear anybody. Sikh religion is so strong that no amount of inducements will succeed. We are not afraid of evangelists. We will continue with our own drive for spreading the tenets of Sikh religion among our people. Only people who are mentally weak will agree to convert to another religion. I do not consider those who have converted as true Sikhs. A true Sikh can never be misguided nor can he convert to another religion because of inducements. Sikhs are taught since childhood to offer supreme sacrifice for the sake of religion.”

We sought reaction from Rev. Sunil Solomon from the Church of North India. He said, “our evangelists spread the message of love and Christ’s teachings among the people. We are against forced conversions. It is up to the people to decide which religion they want to choose.”

I was surprised when I read reports about Christian missionaries active in the sensitive border areas of Punjab. They should know that Sikhs are a martial race and they have a long history of offering supreme sacrifice for the sake of defending their religion.

The history of Sikhs is replete with stories of supreme sacrifices and bravery of the Gurus and their disciples. These evangelists must know that it was Guru Teg Bahadur who took up the sword against Mughal rulers to save Kashmiri Pandits from being forcibly converted to Islam. The Guru himself refused to be converted to Islam and offered supreme sacrifice. The brave sons of Guru Govind Singh refused to be converted to Islam, and opted for martyrdom. Had the Christian evangelists read the history of Sikhs, they would not have ventured to convert people in Punjab.

The second point is that, Sikhs have a long history of community service. During calamities, both natural and manmade, Sikhs are the first to come forward to set up community kitchens (langars) to offer food to the needy. The very essence of organizing ‘langar’ in all Sikh gurudwaras is that nobody must sleep on an empty stomach. The gurudwaras offer free medicines, treatment and education to the poor.

It is, however, a fact that there is a craze among Sikh youths to opt for better living and they yearn for visas to go to the US, UK or Canada. By dangling inducements like arranging visas, the evangelists may be luring some of the youths to convert, but the Sikh community has now become alert, after the Jathedar of Akal Takht and the SGPC chief have sounded the alarm. The missionaries will not succeed in their aim. The teachings of Guru Nanak have been guiding the Sikhs for several centuries. The nation remains indebted to the Sikh community, which has given supreme sacrifices for defending India.

कश्मीर से मंगलवार को दो बड़ी खबरें आई। पहली ये कि अफगनिस्तान में तालिबान की सरकार बनवाने के बाद पाकिस्तान का फोकस जम्मू-कश्मीर में दहशतगर्दी तेज करने पर है। इस बात के सबूत मिले हैं कि पाकिस्तान की इंटेलिजेंस एजेंसी ISI अब कश्मीर में आतंक फैलाने के लिए अफगानिस्तान के टेररिस्ट ग्रुप्स की मदद ले रही है। पाकिस्तान से ऑपरेट करने वाले आतंकी संगठन अब ISIS के नाम पर कश्मीर में आतंकी वारदातों को अंजाम दे रहे हैं। पिछले हफ्ते श्रीनगर में रहने वाले बिहार के स्ट्रीट वेंडर वीरेंद्र पासवान की हत्या हुई जिसका वीडियो पाकिस्तान की ISI ने सोशल मीडिया पर अपलोड कराया और ये दिखाने की कोशिश की कि इसके पीछे ISIS का हाथ है। वीरेंद्र पासवान की हत्या उसी दिन की गई जिस दिन आतंकियों ने कश्मीरी पंडित व्यवसायी माखन लाल बिंद्रू की हत्या उनकी दवा दुकान के अंदर कर दी थी।

कश्मीर से दूसरी बड़ी खबर ये है कि हमारी सिक्युरिटी फोर्स ने जबरदस्त एक्शन लिया है। पिछले 30 घंटे में 7 आतंकियों को मार गिराया। इनमें से 2 आतंकी वो हैं जिन्होंने सिविलियंस की हत्या की थी। सिक्योरिटी फोर्सेज ने उन टेररिस्ट्स को भी आइडेंटिफाई कर लिया है जिन्होंने कश्मीरी पंडित माखन लाल बिंद्रू, दीपक चंद और सिख प्रिंसिपल सुपिंदर कौर की हत्या की थी। जिस दिन आतंकियों ने माखन लाल बिंद्रू की हत्या की थी उस दिन जम्मू-कश्मीर के एलजी मनोज सिन्हा ने ‘आज की बात’ में मुझसे बात करते हुए ये भरोसा दिलाया था कि घाटी में माइनॉरिटीज ही हत्या करने वालों का जल्द ही हिसाब कर दिया जाएगा। एक आतंकी को तो उसके किए की सज़ा दी जा चुकी है बाकी टेररिस्ट्स की भी पहचान हो गई है और किसी भी वक्त उन्हें भी ढेर किया जा सकता है।

सिक्योरिटी फोर्सेस ने कश्मीर में हुई टारगेट किलिंग्स को अंजाम देने वाले चेहरों की और उसके मास्टरमाइंड की पहचान कर ली है। पता चला है कि इन सारी हत्याओं के पीछे बासित अहमद डार नाम का आतंकवादी है। बासित साउथ कश्मीर के कुलगाम का रहनेवाला है और ये पिछले साल अप्रैल में अपने घर से गायब हो गया था। फिर वो लश्कर के एक शैडो आउटफिट द रजिस्टेंस फोर्स (TRF) के साथ जुड़ गया। बासित ने सबसे पहले लश्कर के ही अब्बास शेख नाम के टेररिस्ट को फॉलो किया, उसके ऑर्डर पर किलिंग्स करने लगा लेकिन अब्बास शेख की मौत के बाद बासित अहमद डार ने खुद को TRF का चीफ डिक्लेयर कर दिया।

पिछले हफ्ते जिन पांच लोगों की हत्या हुई उसमें बासित और उसके ग्रुप का ही हाथ है। बासित अहमद डार के साथ मेहरान शल्ला और आदिल नाम के आतंकवादी भी मौजूद थे। इनके साथ एक चौथा दहशतगर्द भी शामिल था। इनके अलावा दो और दहशतगर्द जो इन हत्या में शामिल थे उन्हें मार गिराया गया है। मैं आपको याद दिला दूं कि पांच अक्टूबर को श्रीनगर और बांदीपोरा में तीन सिविलियंस की हत्या की गई थी। पहले कश्मीरी पंडित कम्युनिटी के मशहूर केमिस्ट माखन लाल बिंद्रू को टारगेट किया गया था। इसके बाद पानीपुरी बेचने वाले वीरेंद्र पासवान और फिर बांदीपोरा में टैक्सी स्टैंड के अध्यक्ष मोहम्मद शफी लोन को भी गोली मारी गई थी। इसके दो दिन बाद आतंकवादियों ने श्रीनगर में स्कूल की प्रिंसिपल सुपिंदर कौर और एक कश्मीरी पंडित टीचर की भी टारगेट किलिंग की थी।

पिछले 30 घंटे में अनंतनाग और बांदीपोरा में दो आतंकी मारे गए जबकि 5 दहशतगर्द शोपियां में ढेर कर दिए गए। साउथ कश्मीर के शोपियां में दो अलग अलग जगह एनकाउंटर हुए जिनमें पांच आतंकवादी मारे गए। 3 दहशतगर्द शोपियां के तुलरान गांव में छिपे हुए थे। उन्हें सरेंडर का मौका दिया गया लेकिन जब वो नहीं माने, गोलियां चलाई तो रिटैलिएशन में मारे गए। इसी तरह शोपियां के ही फेरिपोरा इलाके में भी दो आतंकवादियों का सफाया हो गया। तीन आतंकियों की पहचान दानिश हुसैन डार, यावर नायकू और मुख्तार अहमद शाह के तौर पर हुई है। इसी तरह फेरीपोरा में उबेद अहमद डार और खुबैब अहमद नाम के टेररिस्ट्स सिक्योरिटी फोर्स की जवाबी कार्रवाई में मारे गए। पुलिस ने इस बात को कनफर्म किया है कि बांदीपोरा में मोहम्मद शफी लोन की हत्या करनेवाले आतंकी इम्तियाज़ डार और वीरेंद्र पासवान को गोली मारने वाले मुख्तार शाह को खत्म कर दिया गया है।

इंटेलिजेंस सोर्स ने इस बात की पुष्टि की है कि पाकिस्तान की इंटेलिजेंस एजेंसी ISI TRF का इस्तेमाल कर आतंकी हत्याओं को अंजाम दे रही है और ISIS की आड़ में सोशल मीडिया पर इनका प्रचार-प्रसार कर रही है। इस बीच, राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी (NIA) ने सिविलियंस की हत्याओं की जांच शुरू कर दी है। इन टारगेट किलिंग्स में मदद करने वाले ओवरग्राउंड वर्कर्स और सिम्पेथाइजर्स के खिलाफ 10 अक्टूबर को एक आपराधिक मामला दर्ज किया गया है। TRF की मदद करने वाले हर ओवरग्राउंड वर्कर का बैकग्राउंड चेक किया जा रहा है। NIA ने आतंकी सिम्पेथाइजर्स के सोलह ठिकानों पर छापेमारी की है। ये ओवरग्राउंड वर्कर लश्कर, जैश-ए-मोहम्मद, अल बद्र, हिजबुल मुजाहिदीन और अन्य आतंकी संगठनों से जुड़े हुए हैं।

हमारे डिफेंस एडिटर मनीष प्रसाद को दिए एक्सक्लूसिव इंटरव्यू में राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी (NIA) के प्रमुख कुलदीप सिंह ने कहा कि कश्मीर घाटी में आतंकी समूह अब हताश हो चुके हैं और अब वे बौखलाहट में अस्थिरता पैदा करने के लिए अल्पसंख्यकों को निशाना बनाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं, लेकिन वे अपने मंसूबों में कामयाब नहीं होनेवाले हैं।

NIA चीफ ने कहा, “5 अगस्त 2019 को धारा 370 हटने के बाद से जम्मू-कश्मीर में फिर से शांति बहाल हुई और हालात सामान्य हुए लेकिन अब आतंकियों ने भी अलग-अलग तरह की रणनीति बनाई है। इसमें से बहुत सारी चीजों से हम पहले ही निपट चुके हैं, लेकिन पिछले कुछ समय से अल्पसंख्यकों को टारगेट करके टारगेट किलिंग की कवायद शुरू की गई। इनका मकसद लोगों के अंदर डर, दहशत और घाटी में अशांति पैदा करना है, वे इस तरह से घाटी के माहौल को खऱाब करना चाहते हैं ताकि विघटनकारी शक्तियों का प्रादुर्भाव हो। लेकिन अब हालात पूरी तरह बदल चुके है। अब 5 अगस्त 2019 से पहले वाली स्थिति वापस नहीं आ सकती, चाहे वे कुछ भी कर लें। ये उनकी बौखलाहट है। उन्हें कोई और रास्ता नहीं मिल रहा तो निर्दोष लोगों को मार रहे हैं।“

कुलदीप सिंह ने कहा, “अब इसमें कौन सी बहादुरी का काम है, ये तो कायरता है। लड़ना है तो सुरक्षा बलों से लड़ो। ये क्या बात हुई कि कोई गांव या शहर में पैदल जा रहा है, कोई कहीं जा रहा है और आपने उसको पकड़कर मार दिया। ये तो कायरता का काम है। कायरता के कामों को करके वे समाज में एक विघटनकारी परिस्थिति तैयार करना चाहते हैं लेकिन वे इसमें सफल नहीं हुए क्योंकि पब्लिक भी इन चीजों को समझती है।“

NIA डायरेक्टर ने कहा, “माइनॉरिटीज की टारगेट किलिंग तभी हो सकती है जब इनको कोई पनाह दे, कोई ओवरग्राउंड वर्कर हो या फिर कोई इनका सिम्पेथाइजर हो। अब तक जैश-ए-मोहम्मद, लश्कर-ए-तैयबा, हिजबुल मुजाहिदीन, द रेसिस्टेंस फ्रंट, अल बदर जैसे आतंकी समूह से मिलेजुले लोग जब कोई आतंकी गतिविधि करते हैं तो उसपर जम्मू कश्मीर पुलिस तो केस करती ही हैं, और जिसमें ऐसा लगता है कि कोई गैरकानूनी गतिविधि रोकथाम अधिनियम (UAPA) का मामला है तो उसकी जांच के लिए वो भारत सरकार को लिखते हैं और NIA उसकी जांच करती है। लेकिन जो लोग आतंकी संगठन की गतिविधियों में लिप्त रहते हैं, प्लानिंग करते हैं, अबतक उनपर कोई मामला नहीं था। जब सिक्युरिटी फोर्स और इंटेलिजेंस एजेंसी ने सूचना शेयर की तो उसी के आधार पर भारत सरकार ने हमें ऐसे लोगों के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज करने का आदेश दिया। इसी आदेश के तहत हमलोगों ने ऐसे लोगों के खिलाफ 10 अक्टूबर को आपराधिक मामला दर्ज किया है।“

इस्लामिक स्टेट के माध्यम से श्रीनगर में बिहार के स्ट्रीट वेंडर की हत्या का वीडियो पोस्ट करने वाले ISI के निहितार्थों को समझना होगा। पाकिस्तान जम्मू-कश्मीर में सांप्रदायिक तनाव पैदा करना चाहता है। इसकी इंटेलिजेंस एजेंसी आतंकी संगठनों के गिरते मनोबल को बढ़ाने की पूरी कोशिश कर रही है।

अफगानिस्तान में तालिबान का कब्जा होने के बाद कश्मीर में दहशतगर्दी बढ़ेगी इसकी आशंका तो पहले से थी। हमारी सिक्योरिटी फोर्सेज अलर्ट पर थी इसीलिए इस बार आतंकवादियों ने सॉफ्ट टारगेट चुने। दुकान में दवा बेचने वाले, स्कूल में पढ़ाने वाले, सड़क पर पानीपूरी बेचने वाले लोगों को निशाना बनाया। अब जम्मू-कश्मीर पुलिस और फौज ने मिलकर एक बड़ा ऑपरेशन शुरु किया है। इस हमले में शामिल लोगों की पहचान कर ली है। बड़ी संख्या में लोगों को डिटेन किया है लेकिन जब जब सिक्योरिटी फोर्सेज एक्शन लेती हैं तो कुछ लोग ह्यूमन राइट्स का झंडा उठा लेते हैं। महबूबा मुफ्ती ने कहा कि पुलिस एक्शन से कुछ नहीं होगा। आतंकवादियों को मारने और पक़डने से कुछ नहीं होगा। वो तो चाहती है कि हमला करने वालों से, उनके आकाओं से बात करनी चाहिए। मंगलवार को प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने ह्यूमन राइट्स को लेकर इसी तरह की सेलेक्टिव अप्रोच को आड़े हाथों लिया।

Two major developments took place in Kashmir on Tuesday. One, security forces have got evidence of Pakistan focusing on fomenting violence in Jammu and Kashmir after Taliban formed its government in Afghanistan. There is also evidence of Pakistan’s spy agency ISI taking help from terror outfits based in Afghanistan. Terror groups working in the Valley are working under the banner of Islamic State. On Tuesday, Islamic State posted a video on social media claiming responsibility for killing a ‘chaat’ seller Virendra Paswan from Bihar in Srinagar. This killing took place on the day Kashmiri Pandit businessman Makhan Lal Bindroo was shot inside his medicine shop. The video of Islamic State was uploaded on social media by front groups working for Pakistan agency ISI.

The second big news is that our security forces have started taking all-out action against terror groups and their sympathizers. Seven terrorists have been gunned down in the last 30 hours in Kashmir. Out of them, two terrorists were those who had killed innocent civilians.

Security forces have also identified terrorists who were working in a group and had killed businessman Makhan Lal Bindroo, school teacher Deepak Chand and Sikh principal Supinder Kaur. Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, in my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ had promised that those killing minorities will be accounted for, very soon. He seems to have kept his promise. One of them has been gunned down, while the others have been identified and security forces are trying to nab them.

The mastermind behind the killings of minorities seems to be Basit Ahmed Dar of Kulgam, who had been missing from his home since April last year. He joined The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organisation of Lashkar-e-Toiba. Basit Ahmed Dar started his killing spree while taking orders from Abbas Sheikh. After the latter was gunned down by security forces, Bashir Ahmed Dar declared himself the chief of TRF.

Basit, along with Mehran Shallah, Adil and a fourth terrorist, started killing civilians. Two more terrorists, who were part of this group, have been gunned down. This group had carried out target killings of five civilians till now. These include businessman M L Bindroo, ‘chaat’ seller Virendra Paswan, Bandipora taxi stand president Mohammed Shafi Lone, Principal Supinder Kaur and school teacher Deepak Chand.

During the last 30 hours, two terrorists were gunned down in Anantnag and Bandipora, while five others were killed in Shopian in two separate encounters. Three slain terrorists have been identified as Danish Hussain Dar, Yawar Naikoo and Mukhtar Ahmed Shah. They were affiliated to TRF. In Ferrypora, two terrorists Obaid Ahmed Dar and Khubaib Ahmed were gunned down. Kashmir police has confirmed that terrorist Imtiaz Dar, who had killed taxi stand chief Mohd Shafi Lone, and another terrorist Mukhtar Shah who killed the ‘chaat’ seller Virendra Paswan, have been killed.

Intelligence sources have confirmed that Pakistan’s spy agency ISI is carrying out terrorist killings by using TRF, and is propagating them on social media by taking cover of ISIS. Meanwhile, National Investigation Agency (NIA) has already started its investigation into the killings of civilians. A criminal case has been filed on October 10 against overground workers and sympathizers who facilitated these targeted killings. The background of every overground worker helping TRF is being checked. Sixteen locations of terror sympathizers have been raided by NIA. These overground workers are connected with Lashkar, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Al Badr, Hizbul Mujahideen and other terror outfits.

In an exclusive interview to our Defence Correspondent Manish Prasad, NIA director general Kuldiep Singh on Tuesday said, “terror groups in the Valley have now become desperate and are trying to target minorities in order to destabilize the situation, but this is not going to succeed”.

The NIA chief said, “After August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated, peace and normalcy had returned to the Valley. Terrorist activity against security forces continues, but now they have started targeting minorities recently with an aim to strike fear among people and create disturbance, but the ground situation has completely changed. The situation cannot return to pre-2019 level, howsoever they may try, but it indicates their desperation, and finding no other way, the terrorists are targeting innocents.”

Kuldiep Singh said, “Targeting innocent people is not a matter of bravery, it is outright cowardice. If they are brave, let them target security forces, but to kill people walking in cities or villages is not bravery. By carrying out cowardly acts, these elements are trying to create disturbance, but they will not succeed, because the public at large understands their motives.”

The NIA director general said, “Targeting of minorities happens only when terrorists get shelter from some people, from overground workers or sympathizers. Till now, Jammu and Kashmir police had been filing cases against people working for terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Toiba, Hizbul Mujahideen, The Resistance Front, and referring some of the cases to the Centre for booking them under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, and then we (NIA) investigate. Those who were involved in planning terror activity had no cases filed against them. Government of India has directed us to file cases against such people too, and on October 10, we filed a criminal case against such people.”

One should realize the implications of ISI posting video of killing of a vendor from Bihar in Srinagar through the Islamic State. Pakistan wants to create communal strife in Jammu and Kashmir. Its spy agency is desperately trying to boost the sagging morale of terror outfits.

When Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, the writing was clear on the wall. Pakistan has now decided to focus on creating turmoil in the Valley by taking help of jihadi groups from Afghanistan. Since our security forces were on high alert, terrorists took on soft targets like civilians, mostly from minority communities. Security forces have launched all-out operation against terrorists, and a large number of overground workers and sympathizers are being detained.

Groups having soft corners towards terrorists are bound to raise issue of human rights, but it is now known to all that they are being selective. Such groups never raise the cause of Kashmiri Pandits and the killings of civilians. This selective approach by some people was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself at the NHRC Foundation Day function on Tuesday.

पुंछ जिले की सुरनकोट तहसील के ग्राम चमरेर में छिपे आतंकवादियों के साथ मुठभेड़ में सोमवार को एक जूनियर कमिशन्ड अफसर सहित सेना के 5 जवान शहीद हो गए। पिछले कुछ सालों में ऐसा पहली बार हुआ है जब किसी मुठभेड़ में इतनी बड़ी संख्या में सैनिक शहीद हुए हों। पुंछ-राजौरी बॉर्डर पर स्थित डेरा की गली जंगल में 3 से 4 आतंकियों को पकड़ने के लिए व्यापक तलाशी अभियान जारी है।

यह पता नहीं चल पाया है कि इन आतंकियों ने हाल ही में सीमा पार से घुसपैठ की थी या कुछ वक्त पहले से ही अपने ठिकानों में छिपे हुए थे। सेना को चमरेर गांव में छिपे आतंकियों की मौजूदगी के बारे में गुप्त सूचना मिली थी। जब आतंकियों ने घात लगाकर हमला किया उस समय जवान घेराबंदी और तलाशी अभियान में जुटे हुए थे। शहीद हुए सभी पांचों सैनिक गश्ती दल का नेतृत्व कर रहे थे, तभी आतंकियों ने उन पर गोलियों की बौछार कर दी। आतंकियों को फरार होने से रोकने के लिए सुरक्षाबलों ने पूरे जंगल की घेराबंदी कर दी है, हालांकि उनके पीर पंजाल रेंज से होते हुए शोपियां निकल जाने की आशंका जताई जा रही है।

मुठभेड़ में पंजाब के कपूरथला जिले के नायब सूबेदार (JCO) जसविंदर सिंह, गुरदासपुर जिले के नायक मनदीप सिंह, रोपड़ जिले के सिपाही गज्जन सिंह, उत्तर प्रदेश के शाहजहांपुर जिले के सिपाही सराज सिंह और केरल के कोल्लम जिले के सिपाही वैशाख एच. शहीद हो गए। शहीदों का पूरे सैनिक सम्मान के साथ अंतिम संस्कार किया जाएगा।

जम्मू डिविजन में इस साल जनवरी से अब तक आतंकियों के साथ मुठभेड़ में सेना के 8 जवान शहीद हो चुके हैं। इस दौरान नियंत्रण रेखा के पास पाकिस्तानी सेना द्वारा किए गए सीजफायर उल्लंघन में 3 अन्य सैनिक शहीद हुए हैं। घाटी में आतंकवादियों द्वारा हिंदू और सिख नागरिकों की हत्या के मद्देनजर सोमवार का सैन्य अभियान सुरक्षाबलों के ‘ऑपरेशन ऑल आउट’ कार्रवाई का हिस्सा था। पिछले साल 3 मई को हंदवाड़ा में आतंकियों को उनके ठिकाने से खदेड़ने के दौरान कर्नल और मेजर रैंक के सेना के 2 अफसर, एक पुलिस सब-इंस्पेक्टर और 2 अन्य जवान शहीद हो गए थे।

पिछले 9 महीनों के दौरान पुंछ और राजौरी जिलों में आतंकियों के साथ मुठभेड़ों की संख्या में वृद्धि हुई है। 6 अगस्त को राजौरी जिले में लश्कर-ए-तैयबा के 2 आतंकी मारे गए थे, जबकि 8 जुलाई को राजौरी के सुंदरबनी सेक्टर में घुसपैठ की कोशिश के दौरान कई हथियारों से लैस 2 पाकिस्तानी आतंकियों को मार गिराया गया था। इस साल अगस्त में राजौरी जिले में मुठभेड़ के दौरान सेना के एक जेसीओ शहीद हो गए थे और एक आतंकवादी मारा गया था।

एक ओर जहां कांग्रेस और अन्य विपक्षी नेता केंद्र की कश्मीर नीति को लेकर सवाल उठा रहे हैं, वहीं पंजाब के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री कैप्टन अमरिंदर सिंह ने, जो कि खुद साठ के दशक में सेना में रह चुके हैं, ट्वीट करते हुए एक बड़ी बात कही: ‘हमारी सबसे गम्भीर आशंका सच साबित हो रही है। पाकिस्तान समर्थित तालिबान के अफगानिस्तान पर कब्जा करने के बाद, कश्मीर में आतंकवाद बढ़ रहा है। अल्पसंख्यकों को चुन-चुन कर निशाना बनाया जा रहा है और अब सुरनकोट सेक्टर के एनकाउंटर में 5 जवान शहीद हो गए हैं। हमें इससे निर्णायक तौर पर और सख्ती से निपटने की जरूरत है।’

इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि हमारी सेना इन हत्यारों को खोजने और उनका सफाया करने में पूरी तरह सक्षम है। अनंतनाग और बांदीपोरा में सोमवार को 2 आतंकियों को ढेर कर दिया गया। भारतीय जनता पार्टी की जम्मू-कश्मीर इकाई के प्रमुख रविंदर रैना ने कहा, सशस्त्र बलों ने घाटी में आतंकी संगठनों की कमर तोड़कर रख दी है और यही वजह है कि आतंकवादी अब चुन-चुन कर आम नागरिकों को निशाना बना रहे हैं और सेना के जवानों पर घात लगाकर हमला कर रहे हैं। सिर्फ इसी साल हमारे सशस्त्र बलों ने अब तक 119 आतंकवादियों को मार गिराया है। इनमें से सबसे ज्यादा 30 आतंकी इस साल मई के महीने में ढेर किए गए, जबकि जुलाई में 20 आतंकी मारे गए।

घाटी में कुछ ऐसे नेता भी हैं जो आतंकी हमलों में आई तेजी को राजनीतिक रंग देने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। पीडीपी अध्यक्ष महबूबा मुफ्ती ने ट्वीट किया है, ‘कश्मीर में बिगड़ते हालात को देखकर परेशान हूं, जहां एक छोटा अल्पसंख्यक समुदाय नया निशाना बन गया है। नया कश्मीर बनाने के भारत सरकार के दावों ने हकीकत में इसे जहन्नुम में तब्दील कर दिया है। इसकी एकमात्र दिलचस्पी कश्मीर को अपने चुनावी हितों के लिए दुधारू गाय के रूप में इस्तेमाल करने में है।’ महबूबा एक बार फिर कश्मीर मुद्दे को सुलझाने के लिए पाकिस्तान और अलगाववादियों से बातचीत शुरू करने के अपने पुराने राग को अलाप रही हैं।

यह कोई नई बात नहीं है। जब-जब कश्मीर में आतंकी गतिविधियों में तेजी आएगी, महबूबा मुफ्ती को यह कहने का मौका मिलेगा कि उन्होंने तो अनुच्छेद 370 को निरस्त करने को लेकर आगाह किया था। महबूबा ने तो 2 साल पहले यह भी कहा था कि यदि अनुच्छेद 370 को हटा दिया गया तो कश्मीर में तिरंगा थामने के लिए एक भी भारतीय नहीं होगा। पिछले 2 सालों में कश्मीर में तिरंगा थामने वाले भारतीय हाथ भी बढ़े और तिरंगे के लिए अपनी कुर्बानी देने को तैयार लोगों की तादाद भी बढ़ी है। महबूबा की अपनी सियासी मजबूरियां हो सकती हैं, लेकिन देर-सबेर उनकी बात गलत साबित होगी। घाटी में आग लगाने के अपने मकसद में पाकिस्तान जरूर नाकाम होगा।

Five army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, were martyred on Monday during a gunfight with terrorists hiding in village Chamrer under Surankote tehsil of Poonch district. This was the first time in last several years when army has suffered highest number of casualties during a single encounter. A massive search operation is on to nab the three to four terrorists in the Dera Ki Gali forest on Poonch-Rajouri border.

It was not clear whether this terrorist group had infiltrated across the border recently or was already holed up inside its hideout for some time. Army had specific inputs about terrorists hiding in Chamrer village and was carrying out a cordon and search operation, when the terrorists ambushed the jawans. All the five army personnel killed were leading the patrol and had to face the barrage of bullets from terrorists. Security forces have thrown a cordon around the entire forest to prevent the terrorists from escaping, though there is a possibility of them moving to Shopian through the Pir Panjal range.

JCO Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh of Punjab’s Kapurthala district, Naik Mandeep Singh of Gurdaspur district, Sepoy Gajjan Singh of Ropar district, Sepoy Saraj Singh of Shahjahanpur district, UP, and Sepoy Vaisakh H. of Kollam district, Kerala were martyred in the encounter. They will be cremated with full military honours.

Since January this year, eight army personnel have been martyred so far while fighting terrorists in Jammu division. Three others were killed during ceasefire violations by Pakistan army near Line of Control. Monday’s army operation was part of Operation All Out crackdown by security forces in the wake of killing of Hindu and Sikh civilians in the Valley by terrorists. Last year, on May 3 in Handwara, two army officers of the rank of Colonel and Major, along with a police sub-inspector and two other jawans were martyred while flushing out terrorists from their hideout.

Poonch and Rajouri districts have been witnessing rise in number of encounters with terrorists during the last nine months. On August 6, two Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists were killed in Rajouri district, while on July 8, two heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists were gunned down while trying to infiltrate in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri. In August this year, an army JCO and a terrorist were killed during an encounter in Rajouri district.

While Congress and other opposition leaders questioned the Centre about its Kashmir policy, former Punjab chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, an ex-army man, hit the nail on the head when he tweeted: “Our worst fears are coming true. With Pakistan backed Taliban taking over Afghanistan, terrorism is increasing in Kashmir. Minorities are being selectively targeted and now five soldiers have been killed in action in Surankote sector. We need to deal with it decisively and firmly.”

There is no doubt that our armed forces are capable of hunting and eliminating these killers. On Monday, two terrorists were gunned down in Anantnag and Bandipora. Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit chief Ravinder Raina said, armed forces have broken the back of terrorist groups in the Valley, and this was the reason why terrorists are now selectively targeting civilians and ambushing army jawans. Our armed forces have gunned down 119 terrorists in this year alone, till now. Out of them, the largest number of 30 terrorists were killed during May this year, while in July, 20 terrorists were gunned down.

There are politicians in the Valley who are trying to give a political angle to the spurt in terror attacks. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has tweeted, “Disturbing to see the deteriorating situation in Kashmir where a minuscule minority is the latest target. GOI’s claims of building a Naya Kashmir has actually turned it into a hellhole. Its sole interest is to use Kashmir as a milch cow for its electoral interests.” Mehbooba is harping on her old tune for starting negotiations with Pakistan and separatists on resolving Kashmir issue.

This is nothing new. Whenever there will be a spurt in terror activity, Mehbooba Mufti will say that she had forewarned about abrogation of Article 370. To put it on record, Mehbooba had said two years ago that if Article 370 was removed, there will not be a single Indian to raise the tricolour in the Valley. In the last two years, the number of Indians hoisting the tricolour in the valley has increased, and the number of Indians offering to sacrifice their lives for sake of tricolour has also increased. Mehbooba may be having her own political compulsions, but her premonitions are bound to be proved wrong in the long run. Pakistan’s desperate gambit in trying to stoke fire in the Valley will fail.

आखिरकार 68 साल के बाद एयर इंडिया की घर वापसी हो गई है। 18 हजार करोड़ की बोली लगाकर टाट संस ने एयर इंडिया को खरीद लिया और इस तरह एक बार फिर इस पर टाटा की मुहर लग गई। सरकार ने एयर इंडिया की बिडिंग में 12 हज़ार 906 करोड़ रूपए का आरक्षित मूल्य रखा था लेकिन इससे करीब 5 हजार करोड़ रुपये से ज्यादा की बोली लगाकर इसे 18 हजार करोड़ में अपने नाम कर लिया। टाटा की यह बोली स्पाइस जेट की तुलना में 19 प्रतिशत ज्यादा थी।

इस डील की घोषणा के बाद, टाटा संस के मानद चेयरमैन रतन टाटा ने एक भावुक करनेवाला ट्वीट किया। इस ट्वीट में उन्होंने एयर इंडिया के केबिन क्रू के साथ जेआरडी टाटा की 1971 की तस्वीर पोस्ट की और लिखा, ‘एयर इंडिया के लिए यह बोली जीतना टाटा ग्रुप के लिए अच्छी खबर है। हालांकि मैं मानता हूं कि कर्ज में डूबी एयर इंडिया को पटरी पर लाने के लिए काफी प्रयास की जरूरत होगी। उम्मीद है कि यह एविएशन इंडस्ट्री में टाटा समूह को मजबूत बाजार का अवसर उपलब्ध कराएगी। एक समय जेआरडी टाटा के नेतृत्व में एयर इंडिया ने दुनिया की सबसे प्रतिष्ठित एयरलाइंस में से एक होने का गौरव प्राप्त किया था। टाटा को अपनी पुरानी छवि और गौरव को फिर से हासिल करने का अवसर मिलेगा जो उसने पहले हासिल की थी। जेआरडी टाटा अगर आज हमारे बीच होते तो वे बहुत खुश होते। चुनिंदा उद्योगों को निजी क्षेत्र के लिए खोलने की हाल की नीति के लिए हमें सरकार को धन्यवाद देने की जरूरत है। वेलकम बैक, एयर इंडिया!’

टाटा संस की सहायक कंपनी टैलेस प्राइवेट लिमिटेड एयर इंडिया और एयर इंडिया एक्सप्रेस में 100 फीसदी हिस्सेदारी और ग्राउंड हैंडलिंग ज्वाइंट वेंचर एयर इंडिया SATS में 50 फीसदी हिस्सेदारी का अधिग्रहण करेगी। यह याद रखना चाहिए कि टाटा के स्वामित्व वाली एयर इंडिया का 1953 में जवाहरलाल नेहरू के शासन के दौरान राष्ट्रीयकरण किया गया था। इसके बाद से जेआरडी टाटा एयर इंडिया के अध्यक्ष के बने रहे, लेकिन 1978 में उन्हें मोरारजी देसाई सरकार द्वारा पद से हटा दिया गया था। वर्ष 2001 में अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी सरकार ने घाटे में चल रही एयर इंडिया को बेचने की योजना बनाई, जो अब 20 साल के अंतराल के बाद अमल में आई है।

एयर इंडिया का अधिग्रहण करने के साथ ही टाटा को 141 विमान मिलेंगे। इन विमानों के परिचालन के साथ ही 55 अंतरराष्ट्रीय रूट 173 शहरों के नेटवर्क तक टाटा की पहुंच होगी। टाटा समूह के पास एयर इंडिया, इंडियन एयरलाइंस और महाराजा के प्रतिष्ठित ब्रांड नेम भी होंगे। बिक्री की शर्तों की बात करें तो केंद्र सरकार को टाटा ग्रुप से 2,700 करोड़ रुपये नकद मिलेंगे जबकि शेष 15,300 करोड़ रुपये से सरकार अपने कर्ज की भरपाई की कोशिश करेगी। एयर इंडिया पर कुल कर्ज करीब 61,562 करोड़ रुपए है। मौजूदा समय में एयर इंडिया को रोजना 20 करोड़ का नुकसान हो रहा है। कुल संचित घाटा लगभग 84,000 करोड़ रुपये है।

सरकार ने साफ किया कि इस सौदे में 14,718 करोड़ रुपये मूल्य की नॉन-कोर एसेट( संपत्ति) जैसे जमीन, बिल्डिंग आदि शामिल नहीं हैं। समझौते की शर्तों में साफ तौर पर यह कहा गया है कि अधिग्रहण के पहले वर्ष के दौरान एयर इंडिया के कर्मचारियों की कोई छंटनी नहीं होगी, लेकिन दूसरे साल से एयर इंडिया और एयर इंडिया एक्सप्रेस के 13,500 कर्मचारियों में से 8,000 को वीआरएस की पेशकश की जा सकती है। इस सौदे में यह साफ है कि टाटा 5 साल के बाद 49 फीसदी हिस्सेदारी बेच सकता है और एयर इंडिया ब्रांड का नाम केवल भारतीय कंपनी को ही ट्रांसफर किया जा सकता है।

एयर इंडिया और एयर इंडिया एक्सप्रेस की अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार में हिस्सेदारी 18.3 प्रतिशत है। इसका अधिग्रहण करके टाटा समूह अब एविएशन क्षेत्र में भारत का सबसे बड़ा अंतरराष्ट्रीय खिलाड़ी बन जाएगा जबकि डोमेस्टिक एविएशन में इसका नंबर दूसरा होगा। टाटा ग्रुप के बड़े अधिकारी पहले से ही वर्तमान प्रबंधन के पुनर्गठन, पुरानी पीढ़ी के विमानों को नवीनीकृत करने, वेंडर्स के साथ ऊंची कीमतों वाले अनुबंधों पर दोबारा बातचीत करने और भारी कर्ज को रिफाइनेंस करने की योजना पर काम कर रहे हैं। एयर इंडिया के आईटी और डिजिटल ऑपरेशन को टाटा की प्रमुख सॉफ्टवेयर कंपनी TCS द्वारा अधिग्रहित किया जाएगा। इससे कार्यक्षमता में सुधार होगा और ऑपरेशन के साथ-साथ मेंटेनेंस की लागत कम होगी। TCS पहले ही भारत को छोड़तर कई अन्य देशों की नेशनल एयरलाइंस के आईटी सिस्टम्स और ऐप्लिकेशंस का काम देखती है।

भारत में नागरिक उड्डयन के इतिहास पर एक सरसरी नजर डाल लेते हैं। जेआरडी टाटा जब 15 साल के थे तब उन्होंने पहली बार फ्रांस में एक प्लेन में सफर किया। इसके बाद उन्होंने पायलट बनने और एविएशन सेक्टर में ही करियर बनाने का फैसला किया। जेआरडी टाटा ने प्लेन उड़ाना सीखा और 1929 में 24 साल की उम्र में उन्हें भारत का पहला पायलट लाइसेंस मिला। उन्होंने 1932 में टाटा एयरलाइंस की स्थापना की। 15 अक्टूबर 1932 को ‘टाटा एविएशन सर्विसेज’ की पहली कमर्शियल फ्लाइट ने कराची से बंबई के बीच उड़ान भरी, और उस फ्लाइट के पायलट खुद जेआरडी टाटा थे।

बाद में इसका नाम टाटा एयरलाइंस हो गया और 1938 में इसके मस्कॉट महाराजा को डिजाइन किया गया, जो कि आज तक बना हुआ है। 1946 में टाटा एयरलाइंस प्राइवेट से पब्लिक लिमिटेड कंपनी बनी और इसका नाम एयर इंडिया कर दिया गया। 1953 में एयर इंडिया का राष्ट्रीयकरण कर दिया गया, लेकिन जेआरडी टाटा इसके चेयरमैन बने रहे। उस समय जेआरडी टाटा इसके खिलाफ थे और उनका मानना था कि सरकार एयरलाइंस नहीं चला पाएगी। सरकार ने उनकी नहीं सुनी और इसके बाद वही हुआ जिसका डर जेआरडी टाटा को था। एयर इंडिया भयंकर घाटे में चली गई।

1995 में जब निजी एयरलाइंस ने भारतीय एविएशन में कदम रखा, टाटा ने एक जॉइंट वेंचर शुरू करने के लिए सिंगापुर एयरलाइंस के साथ समझौता किया, लेकिन तत्कालीन सरकार ने विदेशी कंपनियों को भारतीय एयर कैरियर में हिस्सेदारी की इजाजत नहीं दी थी। 2001 में, टाटा ने सिंगापुर एयरलाइंस के साथ एयर इंडिया के अधिग्रहण के लिए बोली लगाई, लेकिन योजना को ठंडे बस्ते में डाल दिया गया। 2003 में टाटा ने मलेशिया की AirAsia के साथ गठबंधन किया और एक बजट एयरलाइन, एयरएशिया इंडिया शुरू की। 2013 में, टाटा ने SIA के सहयोग से एक फुल सर्विस एयरलाइन Vistara लॉन्च की। 2019 में, केंद्र ने एयर इंडिया की 100 फीसदी हिस्सेदारी बेचने का फैसला किया और बोली लगाने का आह्वान किया। शुक्रवार, 8 अक्टूबर को केंद्र ने टाटा की अमानत उसको वापस करने का फैसला किया।

नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया ने एयर इंडिया को टाटा संस को बेचने के फैसले का स्वागत किया। सिंधिया ने कहा, ‘यह भारत के 130 करोड़ लोगों के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण दिन है। यह एयरलाइन पिछले कुछ सालों से रोजाना 20 करोड़ और और सालाना 7,500 करोड़ रुपये का घाटा उठा रही थी। यह विनिवेश प्रक्रिया अत्यंत गहन, अत्यंत कठोर रही है और इसके परिणामस्वरूप प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी, वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण, DIPAM और नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय के नेतृत्व में एक ऐतिहासिक परिणाम प्राप्त हुआ है।’

सरकार पिछले दो दशकों से एयर इंडिया को बेचने की कोशिश कर रही थी लेकिन घाटा इतना ज्यादा था कि कोई उसे खरीदने को तैयार नहीं था। यह सरकार के लिए सफेद हाथी बन गया था। एयर इंडिया को रोजाना 20 करोड़ रुपये का जो घाटा हो रहा था, उसकी भरपाई हमारी आपकी जेब से हो रही थी।

2009 से अब तक केंद्र सरकार एयर इंडिया को 1,11,000 करोड़ रुपये की मदद दे चुकी है। इसमें से 54,000 करोड़ रुपये सरकार की ओर से कैश में दिए गए, फिर भी एयर इंडिया की वित्तीय स्थिति में सुधार नहीं हुआ। 31 अगस्त तक एयर इंडिया का कुल घाटा 62,000 करोड़ रुपये था, और इस समय इसकी नेट वर्थ -33,000 करोड़ रुपये है।

इसीलिए सरकार जल्दी से जल्दी महाराज की विदाई चाहती थी। टाटा का इसके साथ एक भावनात्मक रिश्ता है, इसलिए उसने एयर इंडिया को खरीदने का फैसला किया। मुझे लगता है कि अब एक बार फिर एयर इंडिया का पुराना वैभव लौटेगा।

In a historic acquisition, the Tata group, after a gap of 68 years, was set to regain control of India’s national carrier Air India, after its bid of Rs 18,000 crore was accepted by the Centre. This was nearly Rs 5,000 crore more than the reserve price of Rs 12,906 crore set by the government. The bid was 19 per cent more than the next rival bidder SpiceJet.

After the deal was announced, Tata Sons chairman emeritus Ratan Tata in an emotional tweet, posted a 1971 photograph of JRD Tata posing with Air India cabin crew and wrote: “The Tata group winning the bid for Air India is great news! While admittedly it will take considerable effort to rebuild Air India, it will hopefully provide a very strong market opportunity to the Tata group’s presence in the aviation industry. On an emotional note, Air India under the leadership of JRD Tata had, at one time, gained the reputation of being one of the most prestigious airlines in the world. Tatas will have the opportunity of regaining the image and reputation it enjoyed in earlier years. JRD Tata would have been overjoyed if he was in our midst today. We also need to recognize and thank the government for its recent policy of opening select industries to the private sector. Welcome back, Air India!”.

Tata Sons subsidiary Talace Pvt Ltd will acquire 100 per cent stake in Air India and Air India Express, and 50 per cent stake in ground handling joint venture Air India SATS.

It may be recalled that Tata-owned Air India was nationalized by the government during Jawaharlal Nehru’s regime in 1953. The pioneer of Indian aviation, J R D Tata continued to stay as chairman of Air India, but in 1978 he was removed from the post by Morarji Desai government. In 2001, Atal Bihari Vajpayee government mooted a plan to sell the loss-making Air India, which has now materialized after a gap of 20 years.

By taking over Air India, Tatas will acquire 141 aircraft and will have access to a network of 173 cities, including 55 international destinations. Tata group will also own the iconic brand names of Air India, Indian Airlines and Maharajah. According to the terms of sale, the Centre will get Rs 2,700 crore in cash from Tata group, while the balance Rs 15,300 crore will go towards taking over nearly 25 per cent of the government’s total Air India debt of Rs 61,562 crore. Air India is presently incurring a daily loss of Rs 20 crore. The total accumulated loss is nearly Rs 84,000 crore.

The government made it clear that the deal does not include non-core assets like land, buildings, etc. valued at Rs 14,718 crore. The terms of agreement clearly state that there shall be no retrenchment of Air India staff during the first year of takeover, but from second year onwards, 8,000 out of 13,500-odd AI and AI Express staff can be offered VRS. The deal clearly stipulates that Tatas can sell 49 per cent stake after the first year, and they can transfer the brand only after five years. The brand name Air India can only be transferred to an Indian company.

By acquiring Air India and AI Express, which have an international market share of 18.3 per cent presently, the Tata group will now become the largest international player from India, and the second largest in domestic aviation. Already, top honchos of Tata group are working on plans to restructure the present management, refurbish older generation aircraft, renegotiate high-cost contracts with vendors and refinance the mountain of debt. Air India’s IT and digital operations will be taken over by TCS, Tata’s flagship software company. This will improve efficiency and reduce operational and maintenance costs. TCS already runs IT systems and applications of many national carriers of other countries, except India.

A brief look at the history of Indian civil aviation. JRD Tata, its pioneer, learnt flying at the age of 15. He got India’s first pilot licence at the age of 24 in 1929. JRD flew Tata Aviation Services’ first airmail flight in 1932 from Karachi to Mumbai. Later it became Tata Airlines and in 1938, the Maharajah mascot was designed, which continues till this day. In 1946, it was rechristened as Air India. In 1953, the government nationalized Air India, but JRD Tata continued to remain as chairman. At that time, JRD Tata strongly protested saying that an airline run by government would one day become unviable. His warning was prophetic and Air India, over the years under government control, continued to bleed.

In 1995, when private airlines took to Indian skies, Tata tied up with Singapore Airlines to launch a joint venture, but the then regime forbade foreign companies from holding stake in Indian air carriers. In 2001, Tata along with Singapore Airlines bid for acquiring Air India, but the plan was shelved. In 2003, Tata formed alliance with Malaysia’s AirAsia and started a budget airline, AirAsia India. In 2013, Tatas launched a full service airline Vistara in collaboration with SIA. In 2019, Centre decided to sell 100 per cent stake in Air India and called for bids. On Friday, October 8, the Centre decided to hand over the family silver back to Tatas.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia welcomed the decision to sell Air India to Tata Sons. “It’s a momentous day for India’s 130 crore people. An airline that has been bleeding Rs 20 crore a day and Rs 7,500 crore a year over the last few years. This disinvestment process has been extremely thorough, extremely rigorous and has resulted in a landmark outcome under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, DIPAM and the Ministry of Civil Aviation”, Scindia said.

The government had been trying to sell Air India for the last two decades but no buyers came forward because of mounting losses. It had become a white elephant for the government. The daily Rs 20 crore loss that was being incurred by Air India, was being paid for, from our pockets.

From 2009 till now, the Centre has given Rs 1,11,000 crore assistance to Air India. Out of this, Rs 54,000 crore has been given in cash by the government and yet, the financial condition of Air India did not improve. Till August 31, Air India’s accumulated loss stood at Rs 62,000 crore, and, at this moment, the net worth of the airline is minus Rs 33,000 crore.

The government was in a hurry to bid goodbye to the Maharajah. Tatas have an emotional attachment to the Maharajah and they, therefore, decided to buy back the airline. I have a gut feeling that Air India will soon regain its lost glory.

कश्मीर घाटी में गुरुवार को जो कुछ भी हुआ, वैसा पहले कभी नहीं हुआ था। दहशतगर्दों ने स्कूल में घुसकर वहां मौजूद स्टाफ के आई कार्ड चेक किए, फिर मुसलमानों को हिंदुओं और सिखों से अलग किया। आतंकियों ने मुसलमानों से कहा कि नमाज का वक्त हो गया है, आप लोग घर चले जाइए। इसके बाद 3 दहशतगर्दों ने महिला प्रिंसिपल, जो कि एक सिख थीं, और एक हिंदू टीचर को रोका और उनकी गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी।

यह खूनी वारदात सरकार द्वारा संचालित संगम ईदगाह बॉयज हायर सेकेंडरी स्कूल में सुबह 10.30 बजे हुई। उस वक्त सभी टीचर परीक्षा का शेड्यूल तैयार करने में व्यस्त थे। दहशदगर्दों ने 44 वर्षीय महिला प्रिंसिपल सुपिंदर कौर और उनके सहयोगी दीपक चंद, जो कि जम्मू के रहने वाले एक हिंदू थे, को स्कूल की बिल्डिंग से बाहर आने को कहा और फिर उनपर गोलियों की बौछार कर दी। खून-खराबे के बाद आतंकी आराम से कैंपस से बाहर निकल गए।

इन अलगाववादी दरिंदों ने इस तरह एक बार फिर इंसानियत का कत्ल कर दिया। इन राक्षसों ने एक बार फिर मुसलमानों, हिंदुओं और सिखों के बीच घाटी में पनप रही कश्मीरियत का खून करने की कोशिश की। इन हैवानों ने कश्मीर को एक बार फिर जन्नत से जहन्नुम बनाने की कोशिश की है।

गुरुवार की रात अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में पहले तो हम मारे गए लोगों के परिजनों का रोना-बिलखना दिखाने से हिचक रहे थे, लेकिन फिर इन्हें दिखाने का फैसला किया ताकि दुनिया इन वीभत्स हत्याओं के बारे में जान सके। सॉफ्ट टारगेट पर हमला करने के पीछे का आतंकियों का मंसूबा साफ है। वे चाहते हैं कि घाटी में धार्मिक आधार पर विभाजन पैदा किया जाए। ये तस्वीरें दिखाती हैं कि पिछले 2 सालों से शांति और सौहार्द से रह रही घाटी में अशांति पैदा करने के लिए वे कितने बेताब हैं।

पिछले 5 दिनों में आतंकवादियों ने 7 निर्दोष नागरिकों की जान ली है, जिनमें से 4 गैर-मुस्लिम थे। आतंकियों ने जिन लोगों को मौत के घाट उतारा उनमें से 2 कश्मीरी पंडित भी थे। इन लोगों को केवल इसलिए मारा गया क्योंकि वे गैर-मुस्लिम थे। चुन-चुनकर की गई इन हत्याओं के पीछे का मकसद बिल्कुल साफ है।

अपने शो में मैंने जम्मू-कश्मीर के उपराज्यपाल मनोज सिन्हा से बात की, जिन्होंने संकल्प लिया कि इन जघन्य अपराधों के दोषियों को सज़ा मिलकर रहेगी।

मनोज सिन्हा ने इन हत्याओं को ‘कायराना हरकत’ करार दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि पहली बार आतंकियों ने किसी महिला की इस तरह हत्या की है। उन्होंने कहा, ‘वह महिला प्रिंसिपल यतीम बच्चों की सेवा करती थीं, उनकी तालीम के लिए काम करती थीं। मृतकों के परिजनों की आंखों के आंसुओं की एक-एक बूंद का इन आतंकियों से सूद सहित और कायदे से हिसाब किया जाएगा। इन टारगेटेड किलिंग्स के पीछे के इरादे साफ हैं। आतंकवाद फैलाने की जो कोशिश कुछ यहां के लोग और कुछ कहीं और बैठे उनके आका कर रहे हैं, उनसे निपटने के लिए मैंने सुरक्षाबलों को पूरी आजादी दी है। इस तरह विशेष समुदायों से जुड़े लोगों को गोलियों से भून देने के पीछे एक साफ पैटर्न नजर आता है। ये लोग संदेश देना चाहते हैं कि इन्हें घाटी में शांति, सद्भाव और विकास नहीं चाहिए।’

लेफ्टिनेंट गवर्नर ने कहा, ‘पिछले 2 सालों से घाटी में शांति थी। अकेले इसी साल जुलाई में कश्मीर में 10.5 लाख लोग घूमने के लिए आए थे। अगस्त में यहां 11.28 लाख पर्यटक आए और सितंबर में पर्यटकों की संख्या 12.25 लाख के आंकड़े को पार कर गई थी। आतंकवादी आम लोगों की जिंदगी तबाह करना चाहते हैं। वे कश्मीर में विभिन्न समुदायों के बीच भाईचारे को खत्म करना चाहते हैं। लेकिन यदि ये हत्यारे पाताल में भी जाकर छिपे होंगे तो उन्हें खोजकर सजा देने का काम प्रशासन करेगा।’

सिन्हा ने कहा, ‘मैं जम्मू-कश्मीर के सामान्य नागरिकों से अपील करना चाहता हूं कि ऐसे तत्वों से सावधान रहने की जरूरत है। यहां की परंपरा और संस्कृति को कायम रखने की आवश्यकता है। मैं घाटी के सभी बुद्धिजीवियों और युवाओं से आग्रह करना चाहता हूं कि आतंकवादियों को सांप्रदायिक कलह के बीच न बोने दें और भाईचारे को किसी भी हाल में न बिगड़ने दें। हमें आतंकवादियों के बीच एक नया ट्रेंड देखने को मिला है और मैं वादा करता हूं कि शुक्रवार और शनिवार तक सबकुछ जनता के सामने होगा। हमने बुधवार को सुरक्षाबलों के कमांडरों के साथ शीर्ष स्तरीय बैठक की थी और नई रणनीति तैयार की गई है। जल्द ही हालात पर काबू पा लिया जाएगा। हम घाटी में सिखों, हिंदुओं और कश्मीरी पंडितों की सुरक्षा का पूरा मुकम्मल इंतजाम करेंगे।’ मुझे लगता है कि लेफ्टिनेंट गवर्नर के पास कुछ ऐसी खुफिया जानकारी थी, जिसे वह शेयर नहीं करना चाहते थे। ऐसा लगता है कि पुलिस ने हत्यारों की पहचान कर ली है और उन्हें पकड़ने की कोशिश कर रही है।

इन हत्याओं के बाद श्रीनगर के मेयर जुनैद मट्टू ने जो कहा, वह हर भारतीय और हर कश्मीरी को सुनना चाहिए। मट्टू ने कहा, ‘जो लोग आतंकवादियों को मिलिटैंट कहते हैं वे आम कश्मीरियों के दर्द को कभी नहीं समझ पाएंगे। बेगुनाहों और महिलाओं का खून बहाने वालों को किसी भी सूरत में मिलिटैंट्स नहीं कहा जा सकता। वे हैवान हैं। वे इस्लाम और इंसानियत के दुश्मन हैं। पूरे कश्मीर को साथ आकर इन्हें जवाब देना चाहिए।’

हमारे श्रीनगर के रिपोर्टर मंजूर मीर ने बताया कि स्कूल की तरफ जाने वाला रास्ता घने जंगल से होकर जाता है, और आतंकवादियों ने अपनी कायराना हरकत को अंजाम देने के लिए इसी बात का फायदा उठाया। परीक्षा की तैयारी में व्यस्त होने के कारण स्कूल में कोई छात्र नहीं था। शिक्षक स्कूल में सुबह की चाय पी रहे थे कि तभी तीनों युवक पिस्टल लेकर अंदर घुस गए। उन्होंने एक लाइन से सारे टीचर्स और महिला प्रिंसिपल को खड़ा किया और फिर लोगों का मजहब पता करने के लिए सबके पहचान पत्रों, यहां तक कि वोटर आई-कार्ड और आधार कार्ड की जांच की।

प्रिंसिपल सुपिंदर कौर अपने पीछे 2 बच्चे छोड़ गई हैं। उनकी बेटी आठवीं कक्षा में पढ़ती है और बेटा तीसरी कक्षा में पढ़ रहा है। उनके पति बैंक में नौकरी करते हैं। टीचर्स परीक्षा करवाने के लिए ड्यूटी चार्ट तैयार करने स्कूल आए थे। किसी ने सपने में भी नहीं सोचा था कि स्कूल में आतंकवादी घुस आएंगे, उनका धर्म पूछेंगे और फिर उनमें से 2 को गोली मार देंगे। हत्यारों के जाने के बाद सभी टीचर्स शॉक्ड रह गए और उनमें से ज्यादातर जहां थे, वे वहीं बैठकर रो रहे थे।

आतंकियों द्वारा कत्ल किए गए हिंदू टीचर दीपक चंद जम्मू के रहने वाले थे। उन्होंने 3 साल पहले ही नौकरी जॉइन की थी। वह अपनी पत्नी और 3 साल की बच्ची के साथ श्रीनगर में ही किराए के मकान में रहते थे और इस स्कूल में पढ़ाया करते थे। दीपक 5 दिन पहले पिता की बरसी मनाकर जम्मू से लौटे थे, लेकिन गुरुवार को जब स्कूल पहुंचे तो घर वापस लौटकर नहीं आए। दीपक की पत्नी कुछ कहने-सुनने की हालत में नहीं हैं। दीपक के चचेरे भाई ने इंडिया टीवी के रिपोर्टर को बताया कि उन्होंने उनसे फोन पर कहा था कि वह श्रीनगर में व्यापारी मक्खन लाल बिंद्रू की हत्या से घबराए हुए हैं, लेकिन यह भी कहा था कि चूंकि श्रीनगर के लोग अच्छे और मददगार हैं, इसलिए चिंता की कोई बात नहीं है।

सरकार उन लोगों के जख्मों पर मरहम लगाने की कोशिश करेगी जिनके परिवार पर आतंकवादियों ने कायराना हमला किया और उनके अपनों की जान ली। पुलिस उन आंतकवादियों को पकड़ेगी या मौत के घाट उतार देगी, जिन्होंने बेगुनाहों का खून बहाया। लेकिन क्या इससे आतंकवादियों की साजिश नाकाम होगी? क्या इससे कश्मीरियत बच जाएगी?

बिल्कुल नहीं। कश्मीरियत सिर्फ तभी बचेगी जब लोग आतंकवादियों और उनके आकाओं के असली मकसद को समझेंगे और उसके हिसाब से करारा जबाव देंगे। इसलिए मैं आपको बताता हूं कि असली मकसद क्या है।

असल में पिछले 2 सालों में आतंकवादियों ने सुरक्षाबलों पर हमले करके देख लिए। वे नाकाम रहे और मारे गए। इसके बाद कश्मीर पुलिस पर हमले किए, लेकिन कोई असर नहीं हुआ। फिर उन्होंने आम कश्मीरियों का खून बहाया, कश्मीरी मुसलमानों की जान ली, नमाज पढ़ते वक्त कश्मीरियों को पीठ पर गोली मारी लेकिन लोग नहीं डरे। कश्मीरी मुसलमानों ने आतंकवादियों को अपने घरों में पनाह देना बंद कर दिया। उल्टे लोग आतंकवादियों के बारे में सुरक्षाबलों को आतंकियों के बारे में खुफिया जानकारी देने लगे।

अब जब घाटी में शांति लौट आई है, व्यापार एवं सामान्य जीवन फिर से शुरू हो गया है, तो 4500 से ज्यादा कश्मीरी पंडित कश्मीर लौट आए हैं। नब्बे के दशक में चले गए 44,000 कश्मीरी पंडितों में से कइयों के वापस लौटने के संकेत मिलने लगे थे। इन कश्मीरी पंडितों को घाटी के लोगों ने फिर से गले लगाना शुरू कर दिया था। लौटने की इच्छा रखने वाले कश्मीरी पंडित परिवारों ने राज्य सरकार को ऐप्लिकेशन देकर फिर से कश्मीर में बसने की इच्छा जताई।

यही बात पाकिस्तान में बैठे आतंकियों को आकाओं को अखर गई। इसलिए अब पाकिस्तान की तरफ से आतंकवादियों को कश्मीरियत का कत्ल करने का हुक्म दिया गया है, जिससे एक बार फिर सिख और कश्मीरी पंडित, कश्मीरी मुसलमानों पर शक करें। वे चाहते हैं कि हिंदुओं और मुसलमानों के बीच नफरत पैदा हो। लेकिन मुझे पूरा यकीन है कि कश्मीर के हिंदू, सिख और मुसलमान पाकिस्तान की इस साजिश को समझेंगे और सब मिलकर उसे नाकाम करेंगे।

What happened in the Valley on Thursday was unprecedented. Terrorists segregated Kashmiri Muslims from Sikhs and Hindus, asked Muslim teachers to leave the school and then killed the lady principal, a Sikh, and a Hindu male teacher. Before segregating, the three terrorists asked the teachers to show their IDs, checked each one of them, and then told Muslim teachers that it was time for their Namaaz and they should leave.

The bloodbath took place at the government-run Sangam Eidgah Boys’ Higher Secondary School at around 10.30 am. The teachers were then busy preparing the exam schedules for the students. The killers asked the 44-year old lady principal, Supinder Kaur, and her colleague Deepak Chand, a Hindu resident from Jammu, to come out of the school building, and they were shot multiple times. The terrorists coolly walked out of the campus.

In the process, the separatists have murdered humanity in cold blood. They have tried to kill the soul of Kashmiriyat that thrives in the Valley among Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs. They sought to convert the Kashmir paradise into a purgatory hell.

In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Thursday night, we were initially reluctant to show the screams and wails of the kin of those killed, but then decided to show these so that the world can realize the gruesome nature of the killings. The motive of terror groups behind taking out soft targets, with a clear intent to create communal division in the Valley, is apparent. These images show how desperate they are to create disturbance in a Valley that was living in peace and amity for the last two years.

In the last five days, terrorists have gunned down seven innocent civilians, out of whom four were non-Muslims. There were two Kashmiri Pandits among them. The civilians were killed only because they were non-Muslims. The aim behind these selective, targeted killings is clear.

In my show, I spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, who vowed that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes will not go unpunished.

Manoj Sinha described the killings as “an act of cowardice”. He said, for the first time, a woman has been killed by terrorists. “The lady principal used to work for the upliftment and education of orphan children. ..Every drop of tear from the eyes of the kin of those killed will be accounted for, and the killers will have to pay for this act, with interest. These are targeted killings with clear motives on part of their handlers sitting elsewhere. I have given full powers to the forces to act fast and eliminate such elements. I find a clear pattern behind the killings of civilians belong to particular communities. They want to convey the message that they do not want peace and prosperity in the Valley.”

The Lt. Governor said, “For the last two years, there was peace in the Valley. In July this year alone, 10.5 lakh tourists visited Kashmir. In August 11.28 lakh tourists came here, and in September, the number of tourists crossed 12.25 lakhs. Terrorists want to destroy the lives of common people. They want to end communal brotherhood in Kashmir, but our government will try to catch the killers, even if they hide in ‘paataal’ (hell).”

Sinha said: “I appeal to the people of Kashmir to maintain communal harmony by upholding the great traditions and culture of this region. I appeal to all intellectuals and youths in the Valley not to allow terrorists to sow seeds of communal discord. We find a new trend among the terrorists, and I promise that by Friday and Saturday, we will be able to place new disclosures before the public. We had a top level meeting on Wednesday with force commanders and a new strategy has been prepared. The situation will be brought under control very soon. We will make full arrangements for the safety and security of Sikhs, Hindus and Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley.” I think the Lt. Governor has more secret information with him, which he was unwilling to share. It seems that police have identified the killers, and are trying to nab them.

Every Indian and every Kashmiri should hear what the Mayor of Srinagar Junaid Mattoo said after the killings. Mattoo said, “Those who describe terrorists as militants will never understand the pains of common Kashmiris. Those who kill innocents and women, can, by no stretch of imagination, be called militants. They are savages. They are enemies of Islam and Insaniyat (humanity). The entire Valley should rise and rebuff these elements.”

Our Srinagar reporter Manzoor Mir said, the road leading to the school goes through thick forest, and terrorists used this as a cover to carry out their cowardly act. There were no students in the school as they were busy preparing for their exams. Teachers were having morning tea in school, when the three youths walked in, carrying pistols. They checked identity cards, Aadhar and even voter I-Cards to check the religion of each of the teachers, who were asked to stand in a line, along with the lady principal.

Principal Supinder Kaur has left behind a daughter studying in Class 8 and a son studying in Class 3. Her husband works in a bank. The teachers had come to the school to prepare duty charts for conduct of examinations. No one had ever dreamed that terrorists would walk in, ask their religion and then shoot two of them dead. After the killers left, the teachers sat in a group, sad and shocked. Most of them were weeping.

The slain Hindu teacher Deepak Chand hailed from Jammu. He had joined service three years ago, had come to Srinagar with his wife and three-year-old daughter, stayed in a rented house, and had been teaching in this school. Deepak had returned from Jammu five days ago after carrying out rites for his father’s death anniversary, but Thursday was his last day. Deepak’s wife continues to be in a state of shock. His cousin told India TV reporter that Deepak had told him over phone that he was shocked over the killing of businessman Makhan Lal Bindroo in Srinagar, but had also said that since the people of Srinagar are nice and helpful, he had nothing to fear.

The government will help the families of those killed by terrorists, police and security forces will nab or shoot the killers, but the moot point remains: Will the conspiracies of terrorists come to an end? Can Kashmiriyat be saved?

Not at all. Kashmiriyat can be saved only when people realize the true motives of terrorists and their handlers, and rebuff them by giving a strong reply. Let me tell you what are the main motives.

For the last two years, terrorists made all out efforts to attack security forces, they were eliminated. They attacked Kashmir policemen, but failed to achieve their objective. They started killing civilians, including Kashmiri Muslims, shot people in the back when they were offering Namaaz prayers, but the common man remained unafraid. People in the Valley stopped giving shelter to terrorists. On the contrary, people started giving secret info about terrorists to the police.

The result: More than 550 terrorists were killed in the Valley during the last two years. Now that peace returned to the Valley and business and normal life resumed, more than 4,500 Kashmiri Pandits have returned to Kashmir. There were indications about the return of many out of the 44,000 Kashmiri Pandits who had left during the Nineties. Kashmiri Pandits who returned were welcomed with affection by the people of the Valley. Kashmiri Pandit families, who wished to return, started applying to the state government offering to return.

Handlers of terrorists sitting in Pakistan were offended by these developments. Terrorists were asked by Pakistani handlers to specifically select people from minorities and kill them, so that Hindus and Sikhs in Kashmir start suspecting their Muslim brethren. They want to create an abyss of hatred between communities. I am fully confident that Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims living in Kashmir, will understand this devious Pakistani plot and foil it.

आज मैं एक बहादुर कश्मीरी पंडित लड़की की कहानी लिखने जा रहा हूं, जिसने ‘द रेसिस्टेंस फोर्स’ से जुड़े आतंकवादियों को खुलेआम चुनौती दी है। इस नए आतंकी संगठन में लश्कर-ए-तैयबा और हिज्बुल मुजाहिद्दीन के हत्यारे शामिल हैं। इस बहादुर बेटी ने अपने पिता के हत्यारों को चुनौती दी कि वे उसकी आंखों में आंखें डालकर बताएं कि उन्होंने उसके 68 वर्षीय फार्मासिस्ट पिता मक्खन लाल बिंद्रू पर गोलियां क्यों बरसाईं। बिंद्रू की मंगलवार शाम को मौके पर ही मौत हो गई। उन्हें 4 गोलियां मारी गई थीं।

बिंद्रू एक जाने-माने कश्मीरी पंडित व्यवसायी थे, जो नब्बे के दशक के दौरान उग्रवाद की शुरुआत के दौरान भी घाटी छोड़कर नहीं गए थे। उस समय लाखों कश्मीरी पंडितों ने आतंकवादियों की धमकी के बाद कश्मीर से पलायन किया था। बिंद्रू श्रीनगर में ही रहे और कट्टरपंथियों की धमकियों को धता बताते हुए अपनी दवा की दुकान चलाते रहे। उन्होंने और उनकी पत्नी ने दुकान का काम संभाला और यह कई सालों से गुणवत्तापूर्ण दवाओं के लिए एक भरोसेमंद नाम बनी हुई थी। बिंद्रू हिंदू हो या मुसलमान, सभी कश्मीरियों की मदद करते थे और यहां तक कि गरीबों को इलाज के लिए पैसे भी देते थे। बुधवार को घाटी के सैकड़ों हिंदू और मुसलमान भाईचारे का अभूतपूर्व प्रदर्शन करते हुए बिंद्रू के अंतिम संस्कार में शामिल हुए। संक्षेप में कहें तो यही वो कश्मीरियत है जो सदियों से घाटी में फल-फूल रही है।

बिंद्रू के अंतिम संस्कार के दौरान उनकी बेटी डॉ श्रद्धा, जो PGI चंडीगढ़ में मेडिसिन की एसोसिएट प्रोफेसर हैं, ने आतंकियों को खुली चुनौती देते हुए उन्हें कायर कहा। उनका यह वीडियो जल्द ही सोशल मीडिया पर वायरल हो गया। बुधवार की रात अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने श्रद्धा का हत्यारों को लताड़ते हुए वीडियो दिखाया। डॉ श्रद्धा ने कहा, ‘मेरे पिता एक कश्मीरी पंडित थे। वह कभी नहीं मरेंगे। आतंकवादी केवल उनके शरीर को मार सकते हैं, लेकिन मेरे पिता की आत्मा और उनका जज्बा हमेशा जीवित रहेंगे। मेरे पिता एक योद्धा थे, वह एक योद्धा की तरह शहीद हुए। वह हमेशा कहते थे, ‘मैं खिदमत करते ही रुखसत हो जाऊंगा।’ आप एक व्यक्ति को मार सकते हैं, लेकिन आप मक्खन लाल की आत्मा को नहीं मार सकते। जिसने भी मेरे पिता को गोली मारी है, मेरे सामने आओ। मेरे पिता ने मुझे पढ़ाया-लिखाया है, लेकिन नेताओं ने तुम्हें बंदूकें और पत्थर पकड़ा दिए। तुम बंदूकों और पत्थरों से लड़ना चाहते हो? यह कायरता है। ये सभी नेता तुम्हारा इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं।’

श्रद्धा जब बोल रही थीं तो उनकी आंखों में आंसू की एक बूंद तक नहीं थी। उन्होंने कहा, ‘जिसने भी अपना काम कर रहे मेरे पिता की जान ली, अगर तुममें ताकत है तो सामने आओ और मेरे साथ बहस करो। तुम एक लफ्ज नहीं बोल पाओगे। तुम केवल इतना जानते हो कि कैसे पथराव किया जाता है और कैसे पीठ पीछे लोगों को गोलियां मारी जाती हैं।’

बहादुर डॉक्टर ने कहा, ‘मैं एक एसोसिएट प्रोफेसर हूं। मैंने शून्य से शुरुआत की थी। मेरे पिता ने अपना व्यवसाय साइकिल से शुरू किया था। मेरा भाई एक मशहूर डॉक्टर है। मेरी मां एक महिला होकर फार्मेसी की दुकान पर बैठती हैं। यह सब हमारे पिता मक्खन लाल बिंद्रू की वजह से है। वह एक कश्मीरी पंडित थे, वह कभी नहीं मर सकते। एक हिंदू होने के बावजूद मैंने कुरान पढ़ी है। कुरान कहती है कि शरीर का चोला तो बदल जाएगा लेकिन इंसान का जज्बा कहीं नहीं जाएगा। मेरे पिता की आत्मा हमेशा जीवित रहेगी। वह एक बहुत अच्छे इंसान थे जिन्होंने कश्मीर और कश्मीरियत की खिदमत की। पथराव करने और गोलियां चलाने से आप कभी भी कश्मीर या कश्मीरियत को नहीं जीत सकते।’

डॉ श्रद्धा ने आगे कहा: ‘मैंने कश्मीर में पढ़ाई की। मैं अपने स्कूल में पढ़ने वाली अकेली हिंदू लड़की थी। मैंने ऑक्सफोर्ड में पढ़ाई नहीं की है। मेरे पिता ने हमें शिक्षा दी। सभी कश्मीरी पंडित अपने बच्चों को शिक्षा देते हैं, जो बाद में अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन और दुनिया के अन्य हिस्सों में जाकर काम करते हैं। मुझे आपकी हमदर्दी की जरूरत नहीं है। मेरे पिता ने मुझे शिक्षा और अपने जज्बे से काफी मजबूत बनाया है।’

हत्यारों ने इकबाल चौक में मक्खन लाल बिंद्रू को गोली मारने के बाद लाल बाजार इलाके में सड़क पर भेलपुरी बेचने वाले को गोली मार दी। इसके बाद उन्होंने एक और शख्स का कत्ल किया और भाग गए। घाटी हाल ही में आतंकियों द्वारा निहत्थे नागरिकों की हत्या करने की कई कायरना हरकतों की गवाह रही है। बिंद्रू के बेटे डॉक्टर सिद्धार्थ बिंद्रू, जो कि एक डायबेटोलॉजिस्ट हैं, ने इंडिया टीवी के रिपोर्टर मंजूर मीर से बातचीत में बताया कि कैसे उनके पिता उस वक्त भी बीमारों की सेवा में अपना सब कुछ न्योछावर कर देते थे, जब कश्मीर में दवाओं की शॉर्टेज थी। उनके बेटे ने कहा कि जो दवाएं कश्मीर में नहीं मिलती थीं, उन दवाओं को लेने के लिए उनके पिता दिल्ली जाते थे, और अपना पैसा खर्च कर फ्लाइट से आना-जाना करते थे, ताकि घाटी के लोगों को जल्द से जल्द दवाएं मिल सकें। उन्होंने कहा, ‘मेरे पिता की हत्या नहीं हुई है, वह शहीद हुए हैं। वह कश्मीर के लिए ताउम्र जिए, और कश्मीरियत के वास्ते ही दुनिया से रुखसत हो गए।’

नेशनल कांफ्रेंस के संरक्षक और पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री डॉक्टर फारूक अब्दुल्ला ने बिंद्रू के परिजनों से मुलाकात कर उन्हें सांत्वना दी। अब्दुल्ला ने हत्यारों को ‘शैतान’ और ‘दरिंदा’ करार दिया। उन्होंने बिंद्रू के परिवार के सदस्यों से अपनी की कि वे उनकी मौत के बाद घाटी छोड़कर न जाएं। डॉ अब्दुल्ला ने डॉ सिद्धार्थ बिंद्रू को कश्मीर में रहने और अपने पिता की समृद्ध विरासत को आगे बढ़ाने की सलाह दी। उन्होंने कहा, ‘यदि आप घाटी छोड़कर चले जाएंगे तो आतंकवादी कश्मीरियत को तबाह करने के अपने मकसद में कामयाब हो जाएंगे।’

बिंद्रू की पत्नी बेहद गमगीन थीं। उनके परिजनों ने अभी तय नहीं किया है कि वे अब घाटी में रहेंगे या नहीं। बेटी श्रद्धा ने इंडिया टीवी को बताया: ‘मेरे पिता ने अपना पूरा जीवन कश्मीरियों की मदद के लिए समर्पित कर दिया, और फिर भी उनकी निर्मम हत्या कर दी गई। हमारा भरोसा टूट गया है। हमारे भरोसे का खून हुआ है। हम वादों पर कैसे यकीन कर सकते हैं? हम कश्मीर, कश्मीरियत और यहां की खूबसूरत फिजा से प्यार करते हैं। हम तो उन आतंकवादियों से भी नफरत नहीं करते जिन्होंने मेरे पिता की हत्या की।’

डॉ श्रद्धा ने कहा, ‘मैं सिर्फ कश्मीर के नौजवानों से इतना कहना चाहती हूं कि अगर जीतना है तो लोगों का दिल जीतो। जीवन में आगे बढ़ना है तो पहले तालीम लो। अगर कश्मीर चाहिए तो पहले कश्मीरियों की खिदमत करो। खून बहाने से खुद बर्बाद हो जाओगे। न कश्मीर मिलेगा, और न खुद बचोगे।’

अपनी भावनाओं पर काबू पाते हुए उन्होंने कहा: ‘मैं एक कश्मीरी हूं। मैं कश्मीरियों की समस्याओं को जानती हूं। कई कश्मीरियों के साथ गलत हुआ है। लेकिन एक ऐसे शख्स को गोली मारना जो कश्मीरियों की मदद कर रहा था? आप आने वाली पीढ़ियों को क्या संदेश दे रहे हैं? आप नफरत का मुकाबला नफरत से नहीं कर सकते। कश्मीरियों के लिए काम करने वाले शख्स को पीछे से गोली मारना कायरता है। मेरे पिता ने मुझे शेरों की तरह बहादुर बनना सिखाया। उन्होंने हमें मानसिक रूप से बहुत मजबूत बनाया। मैं घाटी में मुस्लिम लड़कों के बीच पढ़ने वाली अकेली हिंदू लड़की थी। मेरे सभी साथियों ने मेरे साथ अच्छा व्यवहार किया। इतने मुसलमान हमारे घर खाना खाने आते थे।’

यह पूछे जाने पर कि क्या उनका परिवार घाटी में रहेगा, श्रद्धा ने कहा: ‘हम डरते नहीं हैं, लेकिन हमारा भरोसा टूट गया है। यहां रहने का मन ही नहीं करेगा। ऐसे लोगों के साथ रहने का क्या मतलब है जो आपका भरोसा तोड़ते हैं?’

बुधवार को श्रीनगर के मेयर ने ऐलान किया कि जिस सड़क पर मक्खन लाल बिंद्रू की दवा की दुकान थी, वह अब उनके नाम से जानी जाएगी। हफ्त चिनार चौक से जहांगीर चौक तक सड़क का नाम बदलकर एमएल बिंद्रू रोड किया जाएगा।

मैं मक्खन लाल बिंद्रू और उनकी बेटी श्रद्धा को उनके साहस और दृढ़ इच्छाशक्ति के लिए सलाम करता हूं। एक बहादुर बेटी ही अपने पिता के हत्यारों को हिंसा का रास्ता छोड़कर तालीम हासिल करने की सलाह दे सकती है। लेकिन दहशतगर्दों के पास न तो दिल होता है और न ही दिमाग। उनका धर्म या इंसानियत में यकीन नहीं होता। वे न तो कश्मीर को जानते हैं और न ही कश्मीरियत को। वे केवल खून बहाना और गोलियां चलाना जानते हैं। वे सिर्फ बंदूक की भाषा समझते हैं, और उनका वही इलाज है। जिन आतंकियों ने मक्खन लाल बिंद्रू की हत्या की है, उनकी एक ही सजा है- मौत। क्योंकि वे कश्मीर के दुश्मन हैं और कश्मीरियत के हत्यारे हैं।

मुझे याद है कि कश्मीरी पंडितों पर जुल्म का सिलसिला 1990 में शुरू हुआ था। इसी तरह की हत्याओं ने, इसी तरह की दहशतगर्दी ने करीब 45,000 कश्मीरी पंडितों के परिवारों को घर-बार छोडकर भागने के लिए मजबूर कर दिया था। करीब 1.5 लाख कश्मीरी पंडित अपने देश में आज भी बेघरों की तरह रह रहे हैं। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की सरकार ने कश्मीरी पंडितों की वापसी और उनके पुनर्वास का काम शुरू किया और उसका असर भी हुआ। कश्मीरी पंडितों में भरोसा जगा, और इसी वजह से करीब 4,000 कश्मीरी पंडित घाटी में वापस लौटे। घर वापसी का यह सिलसिला जारी है और धीरे-धीरे रफ्तार पकड़ रहा है। और यही बात कश्मीर के दुश्मनों, सरहद पार बैठे आतंकी सरगनाओं को पसंद नहीं आई। आतंक के आकाओं ने तब लोगों के दिलों में दहशत पैदा करने के लिए उस शख्स को निशाना बनाने का फैसला किया, जो घाटी में कश्मीरी पंडितों का सबसे चर्चित चेहरा था।

मुझे यकीन है कि कश्मीरी पंडितों को डराने की, उन्हें कश्मीर से दूर रखने की पाकिस्तान की साजिश कभी कामयाब नहीं होगी। उन्होंने एक मक्खनलाल बिंद्रू को मार डाला, लेकिन हजारों मक्खनलाल बिंद्रू सामने आएंगे और कश्मीरियत को जिंदा रखेंगे।

Today I will write about the story of a brave Kashmiri Pandit girl who openly challenged terrorists belonging to The Resistance Force. This new terror outfit comprises of Lashkar and Hizbul killers. The daughter challenged the killers to come and debate with her on why they shot her 68-year-old pharmacist father Makhan Lal Bindroo, from point blank range, killing him on the spot on Tuesday evening. His body was riddled with four bullets.

Bindroo was a well-known Kashmiri Pandit businessman who did not migrate from the Valley during the onset of militancy, during the Nineties, when lakhs of Kashmiri Pandits fled after threats from terror groups. He continued to stay in Srinagar, and ran his medicine shop, defying threats from radicals. He and his wife ran the shop, which, over the years, became a trusted name for quality medicines. Bindroo used to help Kashmiris, both Hindus and Muslims, and even went to the extent of giving money to poor people for treatment. On Wednesday, hundreds of Hindus and Muslims in the Valley joined Bindroo’s funeral in a rare show of brotherhood. This, in essence, is Kashmiriyat that has thrived in the Valley for centuries.

It was during this funeral, that Bindroo’s daughter Dr Shraddha, an associate professor of medicine at PGI Chandigarh, openly challenged the terrorists and called them cowards. Her video soon went viral over social media. In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Wednesday night, we showed the video of Shraddha heaping scorn at the killers. Dr Shraddha said, “My father was a Kashmiri Pandit. He will never die. Terrorists can only kill his body, but my father will always remain alive in spirit. My father was always a fighter, he always said, ‘I will die with my shoes on’. You can kill one person, but you cannot kill the spirit of Makhan Lal. Whoever shot dead my father, come in front of me. My father gave me education, but politicians gave you guns and stones. You want to fight with guns and stones? This is cowardice. All these politicians are misusing you as tools.”

Without a drop of tear in her eyes, Dr Shraddha said: “Let the man who shot my father while he was working, if you have the guts and courage, come and have a face-to-face debate with me. You won’t be able to utter a word. All you can do is throw stones and shoot people from behind.”

The brave doctor said: “I am an associate professor. I started from zero. My father started his business from a bicycle. My brother is a famous diabetologist. My mother sits in the shop. This is what Makhan Lal Bindroo made us. He was a Kashmiri Pandit, he will never die. I am a Hindu and I have read the Holy Quran. The Holy Quran says, you may kill the body, but the spirit lives on. My father’s spirit will always remain alive….He was an awesome person who served Kashmir and Kashmiriyat. By throwing stones and firing bullets, you can never win Kashmir or Kahmiriyat.”

Dr Shraddha went on: “I studied in Kashmir. I was the only Hindu girl studying in school. I did not study in Oxford. My father gave us education. All Kashmiri Pandits give education to their children, who later go to the US, UK and work in other parts of the world. ..I do not need your sympathy. My father has made me strong by imparting education and will power.”

The killers after shooting M L Bindroo in Iqbal Chowk, went on a killing spree, and murdered two other civilians, including a vendor selling bhelpuri. The valley has, of late, witnessed terrorists carrying out acts of cowardice by targeting soft targets like unarmed civilians. Bindroo’s son, Dr Siddharth Bindroo, a diabetologist, spoke to India TV reporter Manzoor Mir, and spoke about how his father used all his resources to procure medicines whenever they were in short supply. He even flew to Delhi to procure medicines to help Kashmiris leaving in the Valley, his son said. “My father was not murdered, he became a martyr. As long as he was alive, he devoted his life to Kashmir and promotion of Kashmiriyat.”

National Conference patron and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah met Bindroo’s family members and consoled them. Dr Abdullah described the killers as ‘shaitaans’, ‘darinda’ (savages). He appealed to Bindroo’s family members not to migrate from the Valley after his death. Dr Abdullah advised Dr Siddharth Bindroo to stay in Kashmir and carry forward the rich legacy of his father. “If you leave the valley, the terrorists will achieve their aim of demolishing Kashmiriyat”, he said.

Bindroo’s widow was inconsolable. The family members are yet to decide whether to stay on in the Valley or not. Daughter Shraddha told India TV: “My father devoted his entire life for helping Kashmiris, and yet he was murdered in cold blood. Our trust has been broken. Our trust has been murdered. How can we trust promises that are being made? We love Kashmir, Kashmiriyat, and the beautiful ambience here. We do not hate the terrorists who killed my father.”

“ I only want to tell the Kashmiri youths. If you want to win the battle, win the hearts of people. If you want to move forward in life, get education first. If you want to win Kashmir, serve Kashmiris first. If you continue to kill, you will destroy yourselves. Neither will you get Kashmir nor will you remain alive”, Dr Shraddha said.

Controlling her emotions, she said: ”I am a Kashmiri. I know the problems that Kashmiris have faced. Many Kashmiris have suffered. But to shoot a man who was helping Kashmiris? What message are you conveying to future generations? You cannot counter hate with hate. To shoot a man who was working for Kashmiris, from behind, is cowardice. My father taught me how to be brave as lions. He made us mentally very strong. I was the only Hindu girl studying among Muslim students in the valley. All my colleagues behaved well with me. Muslims came to our home for dinner.”

On asking whether her family would continue to stay in the valley, Shraddha said: “We are not afraid, but our trust has been broken. There is no incentive left to stay here. What is the point in staying with people who break your trust?”

On Wednesday, the Mayor of Srinagar announced that the road on which Bindroo’s medicine shop was located, from Haft Chinar Chowk to Jehangir Chowk, will be renamed M L Bindroo Road.

I salute Makhan Lal Bindroo and his daughter Shraddha for displaying courage and strong will. Only a brave daughter can give advice to the killers of her father to abjure violence and follow the path of education. But terrorists neither have a heart nor brains, they do not believe in religion or humanity, they neither know the true Kashmir nor Kashmiriyat. They only know how to spill blood and fire bullets. They understand the language of gun. They need a matching treatment. Those who killed M L Bindroo deserve death. Because they are enemies of Kashmir and killers of Kashmiriyat.

I remember, in 1990, more than 45,000 Kashmiri Pandit families were forced to migrate from the Valley when terrorist outfits went on a killing spree. Nearly 1.5 lakh Kashmiri Pandits are still living as homeless in their own country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government started the process of rehabilitating Kashmiris and the efforts have shown results. Till date, more than 4,000 Kashmiri Pandits have returned to the Valley. The return of KPs is gradually gaining pace. And the handlers of terror outfits sitting across the border are feeling uneasy. The perpetrators of terror then decided to target the most known face of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, in order to strike terror in the hearts of people.

I am confident that Pakistan’s conspiracy to strike fear in the hearts of Kashmiri Pandits who want to return to the Valley will be foiled in the long run. They killed one Makhan Lal Bindroo, but thousands of Makhan Lals will surely come forward to keep the flame of Kashmiriyat alive.

लखीमपुर खीरी का घटना को लेकर सियासी घमासान जारी है और नेताओं के बीच घटनास्थल पर पहुंचने की होड़ लगी है। बुधवार को उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने राहुल गांधी, प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा और 3 अन्य नेताओं को लखीमपुर खीरी जाने की इजाजत दे दी है। राहुल गांधी अपने 2 मुख्यमंत्रियों भूपेश बघेल और चरनजीत सिंह चन्नी के साथ लखीमपुर खीरी जाने के लिए लखनऊ पहुंचे हुए थे।

इस बीच राजनीतिक और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं को लखीमपुर खीरी में दाखिल होने से रोकने के लिए ईस्टर्न पेरीफेरल हाईवे पर बागपत के पास ट्रैफिक बंद कर दिया गया था। बहराइच में एक किसान के अंतिम संस्कार के दौरान कुछ घंटों के लिए इंटरनेट बंद रहा।

झड़प में मारे गए एक किसान के शव का अंतिम संस्कार करने से परिवार के लोगों ने मंगलवार को मना कर दिया था। उन्होंने इस बात पर आपत्ति जताई थी कि पोस्टमॉर्टम रिपोर्ट में गोली लगने का जिक्र नहीं है। किसान नेता राकेश टिकैत के दखल के बाद तीनों शवों का अंतिम संस्कार कर दिया गया जबकि चौथे शव का फिर से पोस्टमॉर्टम किया जाएगा। राज्य सरकार ने इस घटना की जांच के लिए एडिशनल एसपी अरुण कुमार की अध्यक्षता में 6 सदस्यीय विशेष जांच दल (SIT) का गठन कर दिया है।

लखीमपुर खीरी पुलिस की ओर से जो FIR दर्ज की गई है उसमें साफ तौर पर केंद्रीय मंत्री के बेटे आशीष मिश्रा का नाम मुख्य आरोपी के रूप में दर्ज है। उस पर किसानों की भीड़ को गाड़ी से कुचलने और पिस्टल से फायरिंग करने का आरोप है। आशीष के खिलाफ आईपीसी की धारा 302 के तहत हत्या के आरोप दर्ज किए गए हैं। FIR में साफ तौर पर कहा गया है कि आशीष मिश्रा मौके पर मौजूद थे। वह थार जीप पर सवार था और उसके साथ अन्य गाड़ियों में 15 से 20 हथियारबंद लोग थे। FIR में कहा गया है कि आशीष मिश्रा थार जीप में ड्राइवर के पास बाईं तरफ वाली सीट पर बैठा था और उसे भीड़ पर फायरिंग करते हुए देखा गया। FIR में ‘दरिंदगी’ शब्द का इस्तेमाल किया गया है।

FIR में कहा गया है कि आशीष मिश्रा जीप पलटने के बाद उससे कूदकर बाहर निकला और पास के गन्ने के खेत में छिपने के लिए भागा। FIR में यह भी जिक्र है कि यह सब पूरी तरह पहले से प्लान करने के बाद किया गया। FIR में इस्तेमाल किए गए ज्यादातर शब्द किसानों द्वारा जिले के अधिकारियों को दिए गए आवेदन में लिखे गए शब्दों से मेल खाते हैं।

इससे पहले मंगलवार को केंद्रीय राज्यमंत्री अजय मिश्रा टेनी की जीप से किसानों को कुचलने का दर्दनाक वीडियो सामने आने के बाद राजनीतिक दलों ने केंद्रीय राज्यमंत्री को तत्काल पद से हटाने और उनके बेटे को गिरफ्तार करने की मांग की। घटनास्थल का 29 सेकेंड का दिल दहलाने वाला वीडियो किसानों द्वारा शेयर किया गया है। इस वीडियो में नजर आ रहा है कि एक खेत के पास सड़क के दोनों ओर काले झंडे और बैनर के साथ किसान जा रहे थे, लेकिन उनमें से कोई भी पीछे की तरफ नहीं देख रहा था। तभी अचानक पीछे से एक गाड़ी तेजी से आती है। इस वीडियो में ड्राइवर दोनों हाथों से स्टीयरिंग व्हील को थामे नजर आ रहा है। आगे खड़े किसान को जरा भी अंदाजा नहीं था कि गाड़ी उसे कुचलने जा रही है। गाड़ी उसे कुचलते हुए आगे बढ़ जाती है।

ये जानबूझकर की गई हत्या के हृदय विदारक दृश्य हैं। जब गाड़ी आगे चली गई तो पीछे कई लोग जमीन पर पड़े हुए थे। इनमें से कई लोग चीख रहे थे, उनकी सांसें तेज चल रही थी। कोई बेसुध था तो किसी की सांसें टूट रही थी। लेकिन हैरानी की बात ये है कि इस जीप के पीछे आ रही ब्लैक कलर की SUV ने भी रोड पर मौजूद शख्स को रौंद दिया। ये सब कुछ इतनी जल्दबाजी में हुआ कि वहां मौजूद लोगों को कुछ समझ ही नहीं आया। उन्हें जरा भी आभास नहीं था कि पीछे से कोई कार उनके चीथड़े उड़ाने के लिए आगे बढ़ रही थी। कुछ प्रदर्शनकारी तो छलांग लगाकर रास्ते से हट गए लेकिन कुछ लोग गाड़ी से कुचल दिए गए।

एक अन्य वीडियो में आसमानी रंग का कुर्ता पहने हुए एक शख्स थार जीप से उतरकर तेजी से भागता हुआ हुआ दिखाई दिया। उस शख्स का कई लोग पीछा करते हैं और वह खेतों की ओर भागता है। किसानों ने एक और वीडियो शेयर किया जिसमें एक शख्स अपनी पिस्टल लहराते हुए दौड़ रहा है और कुछ लोग उसे घेरे हुए हैं। किसानों का कहना है कि वह शख्स मंत्री का बेटा आशीष मिश्रा था। इस वीडियो को सोशल मीडिया पर बीजेपी सांसद वरुण गांधी और कांग्रेस नेता प्रियंका वाड्रा ने शेयर किया था। वरुण गांधी ने ट्वीट किया, लखीमपुर खीरी के खिसानों को जानबूझकर कुचले जाने का यह वीडियो किसी को भी अंदर से हिला देने वाला है। पुलिस को इसका संज्ञान लेना चाहिए और कार में जो लोग भी दिख रहे हैं उन्हें और उनसे जुड़े लोगों को गिरफ्तार करना चाहिए।

केंद्रीय गृह राज्य मंत्री अजय मिश्रा टेनी और उनके बेटे आशीष मिश्रा ने इंडिया टीवी के रिपोर्टर पवन नारा को दिए एक एक्सक्लूसिव इंटरव्यू में दावा किया कि वे निर्दोष हैं। मंत्री ने कहा, ‘मेरा बेटा थार जीप में नहीं था। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने जब जीप पर हमला बोला तो उसमें ड्राइवर घायल हो गया, जिससे गाड़ी ने बैलेंस खो दिया और यह प्रदर्शनकारियों को कुचलती हुए आगे बढ़ गई।’ मंत्री के बेटे ने दावा किया कि वह घटनास्थल से कई किलोमीटर दूर दंगल के कार्यक्रम में मौजूद थे।

अजय मिश्रा टेनी ने स्वीकार किया कि वीडियो में दिख रही गाड़ी उनके नाम पर रजिस्टर्ड है और इसे उनका ड्राइवर हरिओम मिश्रा चला रहा था, जिसे प्रदर्शनकारियों ने पीट-पीट कर मार डाला। यह पूछे जाने पर कि कुर्ता पहने हुए गाड़ी से भागता हुआ शख्स कौन था, अजय मिश्रा ने उसे पहचानते हुए कहा कि वह पार्टी कार्यकर्ता सुमित जायसवाल था।

अजय मिश्रा ने बार-बार यही कहा कि वीडियो में जो गाड़ियां दिख रही हैं, उनमें उनका बेटा आशीष नहीं था। उन्होंने कहा, उन्हें नहीं पता कि किन परिस्थितियों में गाड़ियां भीड़ पर चढ़ गईं। उन्होंने कहा कि हो सकता है लोग जान बचाकर भाग रहे हों। उन्होंने कहा कि हो सकता है कि ड्राइवर ने गाड़ी पर से अपना कंट्रोल खो दिया हो जिससे वह बाद में पलट गई। सुमित जायसवाल ने हमारे रिपोर्टर पवन नारा से बात करते हुए माना कि गाड़ी से उतरकर भागते हुए वही दिखाई दे रहे हैं।

विपक्ष के नेता आशीष मिश्रा की तत्काल गिरफ्तारी की मांग कर रहे हैं। राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी के सुप्रीमो शरद पवार ने लखीमपुर खीरी घटना की तुलना ब्रिटिश शासन के दौरान हुए जलियांवाला बाग कांड से कर दी। पवार ने कहा, यह साफ तौर पर ‘शक्ति का दुरुपयोग’ था और सुप्रीम कोर्ट के एक मौजूदा न्यायाधीश को इस घटना की जांच करनी चाहिए। शिरोमणि अकाली दल के सुप्रीमो प्रकाश सिंह बादल ने कहा कि वह किसानों की मौत के लिए जिम्मेदार लोगों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई को लेकर सरकार की असंवेदनशीलता और निष्क्रियता को लेकर स्तब्ध हैं। सीनियर बादल ने कहा, ‘दोषी चाहे भी हों, उन्हें सख्त से सख्त सजा मिलनी चाहिए।’

इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि लखीमपुर खीरी में जो कुछ भी हुआ वह दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण था और किसानों की दर्दनाक तरीके से गाड़ियों से कुचलकर मौत हो गई। योगी आदित्यनाथ की सरकार ने कार्रवाई करने में अपनी तरफ से कोई कसर नहीं छोड़ी है। सरकार ने मामले की जांच के लिए SIT का गठन किया है, हाई कोर्ट के एक रिटायर्ड जज द्वारा न्यायिक जांच की घोषणा की है और मारे गए लोगों के परिजनों के लिए 45 लाख रुपये की मदद की घोषणा की है। मंत्री के बेटे के खिलाफ FIR दर्ज कर ली गई है और सब कुछ पारदर्शी तरीके से किया जा रहा है। इन सबके बावजूद विपक्षी दल इसे मुद्दा बनाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। इससे भी किसी को शिकायत नहीं होनी चाहिए। सियासी दलों को अपनी आवाज उठाने का अधिकार है, लेकिन ऐसा करते हुए उन्हें राष्ट्र हित का ध्यान रखना चाहिए।

मुझे यह देखकर आश्चर्य हुआ कि शरद पवार जैसे सीनियर नेता ने इस घटना की तुलना जलियांवाला बाग से कर दी। कुछ नेताओं ने कहा कि ऐसा अत्याचार अंग्रेजों के जमाने में भी नहीं हुआ था, जबकि कुछ अन्य नेताओं ने उत्तर प्रदेश में राष्ट्रपति शासन लगाने की मांग कर दी। मुझे लगता है ये कुछ ज्यादा हो गया।

सबकी कोशिश यह होनी चाहिए कि इस मामले की निष्पक्ष जांच हो, दोषियों को सजा मिले और आगे ऐसी घटना न हो। चुनाव आएंगे और जाएंगे, सरकारें बनेंगी और गिरेंगी लेकिन लोग अगर कानून अपने हाथ में लेने लगे, बदला लेने के लिए एक दूसरे की जान लेने लगेंगे तो प्रदेश कैसे बचेगा, देश कैसे चलेगा।
