Renaming 21 Andaman islands: Modi’s quest for removing symbols of slavery
On the occasion of birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, observed as ‘Parakram Diwas’ on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi named 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar after the 21 recipients of Param Vir Chakra, the nation’s highest military honour.
Through video conferencing, the Prime Minister unveiled a model of the national memorial dedicated to Netaji on Ross island, named Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep during Modi’s visit in 2018. On Ross Island, during the Second World War, Netaji, leading the Azad Hind Fouj, had unfurled the national tricolour in 1943. Havelock island and Neil Island were renamed Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep in 2018.
Neil Island was named by British rulers in memory of Brigadier General James Neil, who had played a big role in crushing the 1957 First Indian War of Independence. Havelock Island was named after British General Sir Henry Havelock. It was on December 30, 1943 that Netaji wrested both these islands from the British, and proudly hoisted Indian tricolour flag.
On Monday, the largest unnamed island was named after the first Param Vir Chakra awardee, the second largest unnamed island was named after the second Param Vir Chakra awardee, and so on. This was an everlasting tribute to our national heores, several of whom gave the supreme sacrifice to protect India’s borders.
The 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, in whose name the islands were renamed are: Major Somnath Sharma, Subedar and Hon. Captain (then Lance Naik) Karam Singh, 2nd Lt. Rama Raghoba Rane, Nayak Jadunath Singh, Company Havildar Major Piru Singh, Capt G S Salaria, Lt Col (then Major) Dhan Singh Thapa, Subedar Joginder Singh, Major Shaitan Singh, Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid, Lt Col Ardeshir Tarapore, Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Major Hoshiar Singh, 2nd Lt Arun Khetrapal, Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon, Major Ramaswamy Parameswaran, Naib Subedar Bana Singh, Captain Vikram Batra, Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey, Subedar Major (then Rifleman) Sanjay Kumar and Subedar Major Retd (Hon. Captain) Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav.
In his address, Modi said, “this day will be remembered by future generations as a significant chapter in the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal’…From Bengal to Delhi to Andaman, every party of India salutes and cherishes the legacy of Netaji….When history is being made, future generations not just remember, assess and evaluate it, but they also find constant inspiration from it”
The Prime Minister reminded that the national tricolour was hoisted for the first time in Andaman and Nicobar islands and the first independent government of India was formed by Netaji. He said, ‘Veer Savarkar and many other heroes like him had touched the pinnacle of penance and sacrifice for the nation on this very island. The voices of that unprecedented passion along with immense pain are still heard from the cells of Cellular Jail today….The identity of Andaman was associated with the symbols of slavery instead of the memories of freedom struggle. Even the names of our islands had the imprint of slavery.”
Mentioning the Param Vir Chakra heroes, Modi said, “They sacrificed everything to protect Mother India. These brave jawans and officers of the Indian Army were from different states, spoke different languages and dialects, and lived different lifestyles, but it was the service of Maa Bharati and their unwavering devotion for the motherland, that united them. Like the sea that connects different islands, the feeling of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat’ united every child of Mother India. ..All these Paramveers had only one resolve – Nation First! India First! This resolution has now become immortal forever in the renaming of these islands. A hill in Andaman is also being named after Captain Vikram Batra, the hero of Kargil war.”
Modi said, the renaming of these islands is not only dedicated to the Paramveer Chakra awardees, but also the Indian armed forces. “Our army had to face wars right from the time of independence. They have proved their bravery on all fronts. It is the duty of the country to ensure that the soldiers who dedicated themselves to national defence, should be widely recognized along with the contributions of the army.”
It goes to the credit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he never takes decisions out of impulse or without proper planning. The islands that were renamed on Monday, were a legacy of slavery, and is part of his major plan to remove all vestiges of foreign rule. Last year, Modi had announced five ‘sankalps’ (vows) from the ramparts of Red Fort on Independence Day. One of the vows was to remove all symbols and vestiges of slavery and putting an end to the slavery mindset. As part of this plan, King George V’s statue was replaced with that of Netaji at India Gate. Modi then changed the flag of Indian Navy with a new ensign. The renaming of Andaman islands on Monday is a fitting tribute to the historic legacy of Netaji.
WFI चीफ कामकाज से अलग रहेंगे, पहलवानों को भविष्य में शोषण से बचाना सरकार की जिम्मेदारी
महिला पहलवानों द्वारा लगाए गए यौन उत्पीड़न के आरोपों की जांच के लिए खेल मंत्रालय द्वारा एक निगरानी समिति गठित करने पर सहमत होने के बाद भारत के शीर्ष पहलवानों ने शुक्रवार आधी रात को अपना धरना समाप्त कर दिया।
खेल मंत्री अनुराग ठाकुर ने एक मैराथन बैठक के बाद ऐलान किया कि ‘एक निगरानी समिति बनाने का फैसला किया गया है। समिति 4 हफ्ते के भीतर अपनी जांच पूरी करेगी। यह भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ (WFI) और इसके अध्यक्ष के खिलाफ वित्तीय या यौन उत्पीड़न के सभी आरोपों की गंभीरता से जांच करेगी।’
खेल मंत्रालय द्वारा जारी एक बयान में कहा गया है, ‘समिति प्रमुख खिलाड़ियों द्वारा लगाए गए यौन शोषण, वित्तीय अनियमितताओं और प्रशासनिक चूक के आरोपों की जांच करेगी; WFI के रोजमर्रा के प्रशासन का काम देखेगी, खिलाड़ियों द्वारा उठाए गए मुद्दों पर फिर से विचार करेगी। निगरानी समिति 4 हफ्ते में जांच पूरी करेगी और तब तक WFI अध्यक्ष (बृजभूषण शरण सिंह) रोजमर्रा के कामकाज से अलग रहेंगे और उन्होंने जांच में सहयोग करने का भरोसा दिया है।’
3 दिन से जारी पहलवानों का यह धरना शुक्रवार देर रात सरकार के इस ऐलान के बाद समाप्त हो गया कि WFI चीफ जांच पूरी होने तक 4 हफ्ते के लिए पद से अलग हटने पर सहमत हो गए हैं।
गतिरोध भले ही खत्म हो गया है लेकिन पहलवानों की आशंकाओं पर गौर करने की जरूरत है क्योंकि WFI प्रमुख बृजभूषण शरण सिंह खेलों की दुनिया के ताकतवर व्यक्ति हैं और उनका काफी दबदबा है। उन्होंने समाज के सभी वर्गों के जबरदस्त दबाव के बावजूद इस्तीफा देने से इनकार कर दिया।
सूत्रों का कहना है कि निगरानी समिति में पहलवान योगेश्वर दत्त की मौजूदगी WFI चीफ पर गंभीर आरोप लगाने वाले पहलवानों के लिए मुश्किल पैदा कर सकती है। क्योंकि योगेश्वर दत्त को बृजभूषण शरण सिंह के खेमे का बताया जा रहा है।
विरोध करने वाले पहलवानों को डर है कि WFI के शीर्ष नेतृत्व में गड़बड़ी का पर्दाफाश करने में उनके रोल के लिए भविष्य में उन्हें परेशान किया जा सकता है। इसकी वजह यह है कि विरोध करने वाले पहलवानों ने न केवल सिंह के इस्तीफे की मांग की थी, बल्कि WFI की पूरी गवर्निंग काउंसिल को भंग करने की भी मांग की थी।
समय की मांग है कि विश्व प्रतियोगिताओं में देश का नाम रोशन करने वाले भारत के इन पहलवानों को सभी वर्गों से सम्मान मिलता रहे और उन्हें भविष्य में ताकतवर लोगों के द्वारा किसी भी प्रकार की ज्यादती से बचाया जाए।
यौन उत्पीड़न के आरोप ऐसे हैं, जिनकी विस्तृत और निष्पक्ष जांच के बाद IPC के तहत कड़ी कार्रवाई करने के लिए मामला पुलिस को सौंप दिया जाना चाहिए।
पुरुष हों या महिला, पहलवानों की सभी आशंकाओं को दूर किया जाना चाहिए ताकि भारतीय कुश्ती की दुनिया में एक पेशेवर माहौल लौटे और वे देश के लिए और ज्यादा मेडल जीत सकें।
बृजभूषण शरण सिंह एक बेहद ताकतवर और दबंग शख्सियत हैं। उन्होंने कह दिया है कि वह किसी की दया से महासंघ के अध्यक्ष नहीं बने हैं और अगर उन्होंने जुबान खोली तो ‘सुनामी’ आ जाएगी।
बृजभूषण शरण सिंह ने लोकसभा का पहला चुनाव 1991 में बीजेपी के टिकट पर गोंडा से जीता था। 1996 में जब वह जेल में थे तो उनकी पत्नी ने चुनाव लड़ा और जीता। 1999 में बृजभूषण ने गोंडा से दोबारा चुनाव जीता। 2004 में बीजेपी ने उन्हें बलरामपुर से टिकट दिया था, और वह वहां से भी जीत गए। 2009 में बृजभूषण शरण सिंह समाजवादी पार्टी में शामिल हो गए और कैसरगंज सीट से सांसद बने। 2014 और 2019 में वह बीजेपी के टिकट पर फिर चुनाव जीत गए। बृजभूषण के बेटे प्रतीक भूषण भी गोंडा की सीट से बीजेपी से विधायक हैं। उन्होंने दूसरी बार चुनाव जीता है।
बाप-बेटे पूरे इलाके में काफी ज्यादा असर रखते हैं, और WFI पर उनकी काफी पकड़ है। बृजभूषण शरण सिंह का नारा है, ‘पहलवान हूं, इसीलिए डॉन हूं।’ उनके खिलाफ पिछले 35 सालों में दर्जनों मुकदमे दर्ज हुए। मोटरसाइकिल चोरी और अवैध शराब की तस्करी से शुरू होकर हत्या, हत्या की कोशिश, किडनैपिंग और टाडा तक तमाम केस दर्ज हुए।
उनका खौफ इतना है कि न सबूत मिलते हैं, न गवाह और वह अदालत से बरी हो जाते हैं। बृजभूषण शरण सिंह को 1990 के दशक में दाऊद इब्राहिम की गैंग के अपराधियों की मदद करने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया था।
वह टाडा (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Prevention Act) के तहत लंबे वक्त तक जेल में रहे। उसके बाद बृजभूषण शरण सिंह के खिलाफ मुकदमे दर्ज होते रहे और वह बरी होते रहे। अब उनके खिलाफ सिर्फ 4 मुकदमे रह गए हैं। बृजभूषण शरण सिंह किस तरह के दबंग हैं इसका अंदाजा आप इस बात से लगा लीजिए कि एक इंटरव्यू में उन्होंने कैमरे के सामने सीना ठोंक कर कहा था कि उन्होंने एक शख्स की पीठ पर बंदूक रखकर गोली चला दी थी, और वह वहीं मर गया। यानी हत्या की बात कैमरे पर कबूल करने वाले वह अकेले इंसान होंगे।
बृजभूषण शरण सिंह को लगता है कि बहराइच, गोंडा, बलरामपुर, अयोध्या और श्रावस्ती जैसे जिलों में वह पार्टी और सरकार से ऊपर हैं। वह पिछले 11 साल से भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष हैं।
यही वजह है कि सिंह सीना ठोंक कर कहते हैं, ‘मैं इस्तीफा क्यों दूं? मैं यहां किसी की कृपा से नहीं हूं।’ बृजभूषण शरण सिंह भले ही पहलवान हों, लेकिन उन्हें हेलिकॉप्टर में उड़ना, घोड़ों की सवारी करना और बंदूकधारियों की फौज के साथ घूमना भी पसंद है।
सिंह और उनकी पत्नी के नाम पर 5 हथियारों के लाइसेंस हैं। उनके पास एक पिस्टल, एक राइफल और एक रिपीटर राइफल है, जबकि उनकी पत्नी के पास एक लाइसेंसी राइफल और एक रिपीटर राइफल है। उनका परिवार यूपी में 56 शिक्षण संस्थानों का मालिक है। इनमें कई तकनीकी शिक्षण संस्थानों के अलावा इंटरमीडिएट और डिग्री कॉलेज भी शामिल हैं।
सिंह का कहना है कि महज आरोपों के आधार पर वह इस्तीफा नहीं देंगे। वह सबूत मांग रहे हैं और कह रहे हैं कि पहलवानों को सबूतों के साथ पुलिस के पास जाकर FIR दर्ज करवानी चाहिए।
इसमें तो कोई दो राय नहीं कि पहलवानों और फेडरेशन के अध्यक्ष के बीच जो जंग चल रही है, उसका नुकसान कुश्ती को ही होगा। तकनीकी तौर पर देखें तो कहा जा सकता है कि रेसलिंग फेडरेशन एक स्वतंत्र संस्था है और उसमें सरकार का दखल नहीं है। इसलिए सरकार अध्यक्ष पद से इस्तीफे का आदेश नहीं दे सकती। बृजभूषण शरण सिंह इसी बात का फायदा उठा रहे हैं।
दूसरी बात वह ये जानते हैं कि यौन शोषण का इल्जाम लगाने वाली लड़कियां खुलकर मैदान में आने से बचेंगी, इसलिए आरोपों का अदालत में साबित होना मुश्किल है। सिंह यह भी जानते हैं कि इस मामले को हरियाणा बनाम अन्य राज्य का रंग देकर, इसे सियासी मुद्दा बनाकर हल्का किया जा सकता है।
बृजभूषण शरण सिंह को यह भी पता है कि जो खिलाड़ी धरने पर बैठे हैं, वे सीनियर खिलाड़ी हैं। उनका करियर अपनी ऊंचाई पर है और इसलिए वे बोल रहे हैं, लेकिन जो जूनियर खिलाड़ी हैं उनका पूरा करियर अभी बाकी है। वे करियर ख़त्म होने के डर से सीनियर्स को सपोर्ट नहीं करेंगे।
इसीलिए बृजभूषण सिंह कुश्ती महसंघ की जनरल बॉडी की मीटिंग बुलाकर उसमें सारे मुद्दों पर विचार करने की बात कहकर मामले को लटका रहे हैं।
सियासी तौर पर देखें तो कम से कम 5 संसदीय सीटों पर बृजभूषण शरण सिंह का दबदबा है। ऐसे में लोकसभा चुनाव से एक साल पहले कोई भी पार्टी उनसे टकराव क्यों मोल लेगी। यही वजह है कि बीजेपी के नेता चाहते हैं कि ‘सांप भी मर जाए, और लाठी भी न टूटे।’ लेकिन बृजभूषण शरण सिंह ने घाट-घाट का पानी पिया है और उन्हें साधना इतना आसान नहीं होगा। अब वक्त ही बताएगा कि आगे इस मामले में क्या होता है।
WFI chief to step aside, Centre must ensure wrestlers must not be harassed in future
India’s top wrestlers called off their protest post Friday midnight, after the Sports Ministry agreed to set up an Oversight Committee to look into allegations of sexual harassment levelled by female wrestlers.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur announced after a marathon meeting that “it has been decided that an oversight committee will be formed. The committee will complete its investigation within four weeks. It will thoroughly probe all the allegations, be it financial or sexual harassment, that have been levelled against WFI and its chief.”
A statement issued by the Sports Ministry said, “the committee will enquire into allegations made by prominent sportspersons of sexual misconduct, financial irregularities and administrative lapses; undertake day-to-day administration of the WFI, revisit the issues raised by players. The Oversight Committee will complete the enquiry in four weeks and till them, WFI President (Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh) will step aside from the day-to-day functioning and he has assured to cooperate in the investigation.”
The dramatic three-day-long dharna by wrestlers were called off late on Friday night after the government announced that the controversial WFI chief has agreed to step aside for four weeks for the investigation to be completed.
Though the standoff is over, apprehensions of both male and female wrestlers need to be looked into, because the WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is a powerful person in sports, who wields a lot of clout. He had refused to resign despite tremendous pressures from all sections of society.
Sources say, the presence of wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, said to be from Singh’s camp, in the Oversight Committee could queer the pitch for the protesting wrestlers, who have levelled serious allegations against the WFI chief.
The protesting wrestlers fear that they may be harassed in future for their role in exposing the shenanigans in the WFI top leadership. It was because of this that the protesting wrestlers had demanded not only Singh’s resignation, but all the dissolution of the entire governing council of the WFI.
The need of the hour is to ensure that India’s top wrestlers, who brought fame to the country in world competitions, must continue to get respect from all sections and they must be protected from undue harassment from bigwigs in future.
The sexual harassment allegations are such, which after thorough and impartial investigation, must be handed over to the police for taking stringent action under Indian Penal Code.
All apprehensions of the wrestlers, both male and female, must be allayed, so that a professional atmosphere returns to the world of Indian wrestling, and the wrestlers can win more laurels for the country.
One must understand the powerful clout of the WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He has been saying that he has not become president of the federation because of anybody’s mercy, and if he starts exposing others, it could cause a ‘tsunami’.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh first won his Lok Sabha election in 1991 on BJP ticket. In 1996, when he was in jail, his wife won the election. He was again elected from Gonda in 199. He won from Balrampur on BJP ticket in 2004. In 2009, he joined Samajwadi Party and became MP from Kaiserganj. He was again elected on BJP ticket in 2014 and 2019. His son Prateek Bhushan is a BJP MLA from Gonda, and has won election twice.
The father-son duo wield tremendous clout in their area, and he has vice-like grip on the Wrestling Federation of India. Brij Bhushan publicly says, ‘I am a wrestler, that’s why I am the don’. Dozens of cases were filed against him during the last 35 years. The charges ranged from motorbike theft to illicit liquor smuggling, murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, and charges under TADA.
His terror is such that in most of the cases there are neither any witnesses nor any concrete evidence, and he gets himself easily acquitted from courts. He was arrested during the Nineties for helping criminals belonging to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s gang.
He stayed in jail for a long time under TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Prevention Act). At present, only four cases are pending against him. His image of a ‘bahubali’ (gangster) is such that he once said in an interview on camera how he put his gun to the shoulder of a person, and shot him dead. He literally admitted on camera that he killed somebody.
In districts like Bahraich, Gonda, Balrampur, Ayodhya and Shravasti, his word is law. Locals tremble in fear after hearing his name. Singh has been the president of Wrestling Federation of India since the last eleven years.
This is the reason why Singh consistenly says, ‘Why should I resign? I am not here at anybody’s mercy.” Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh may be a wrestler, but he also loves flying in choppers, riding horses, and moving around with a group of armed people.
Singh holds five arms licence in his and his wife’s name. He owns a pistol, a rifle and a repeater rifle, while his wife owns a licensed rifle and a repeater rifle. His family owns 56 educational institutes in UP. These include an intermediate and a degree college, apart from several technical education institutes.
Singh says, mere allegations cannot be the basis for his resignation. He needs evidences and claims that the wrestlers could have gone to police and file FIRs by producing evidences.
There can be no doubt that the fight between wrestlers and the Federation chief can cause harm to Indian wrestling in the coming years. Technically, Wrestling Federation of India is an independent sports body and the government cannot interfere in its functions. Singh is taking advantage by using this proviso as his weapon.
Singh knows that female wrestlers will fear to come forward with evidences about sexual harassment allegations, and it would be difficult for them to prove their charges in court. Singh also knows that he can win the game by making it a Haryana versus the rest issue. Most of the protesting wrestlers are from Haryana.
Singh also knows that most of the wrestlers who were sitting on dharna were now senior players, and their careers are at their peak. He is therefore banking on the support of junior wrestlers, who will not dare to challenge him by supporting their seniors.
Singh is now biding his time, so that after the Oversight Committee’s work is over, he can call a general body meeting of the WFI and put the entire matter in limbo.
Politically, Singh wields clout in at least five parliamentary constituencies of UP, and no political party would like to confront him with LS elections a year away. In Hindi, there is this proverb “Saanp bhi mar jaaye, lathi bhi na tootey” (literally meaning, the snake must die, but the stick must not break, figuratively meaning, Get your way out without causing any harm) .The BJP leadership seems to be following this line, but Singh is a tough nut to crack. Time will tell.
पहलवान धरना : सरकार कुश्ती महासंघ अध्यक्ष के खिलाफ बिना वक्त गंवाए कार्रवाई करे
दिल्ली के जंतर-मंतर पर पहलवानों के धरना-प्रदर्शन का आज तीसरा दिन था । उधर, भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष बृजभूषण शरण सिंह पर इस्तीफा देने का दबाव बढ़ गया है। लेकिन बृजभूषण सिंह अभी-भी अपनी बात पर अड़े हुए हैं। उन्होंने पत्रकारों से कहा, ‘अगर मैं मुंह खोलूंगा तो सुनामी आ जाएगी। मैं किसी की दया के कारण यहां नहीं हूं। मुझे लोगों द्वारा चुना गया है। ‘
खेल मंत्रालय के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों का कहना है कि खेलों की एक चुनी हुई संस्था के अध्यक्ष को हटाना केंद्र के लिए मुश्किल है। इससे पहले कल देर रात पहलवानों और खेल मंत्री की चार घंटे तक मीटिंग हुई। यह मीटिंग खेल मंत्री के सरकारी आवास पर रात दो बजे तक चली। वहीं शुक्रवार दोपहर भी खेल मंत्रालय में एक दौर की बातचीत हुई।
पहलवानों ने भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ की अध्यक्ष पी.टी. उषा को एक चिट्ठी भेजकर बृजभूषण शरण सिंह के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करने का अनुरोध किया है। इस चिट्ठी में पहलवानों ने लिखा, ‘टोक्यो ओलंपिक में मेडल जीतने में असफल रहने के बाद कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष द्वारा विनेश फोगाट को मानसिक रूप से प्रताड़ित किया गया था।’ पहलवानों ने लिखा कि अगर बृजभूषण सिंह भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष बने रहे तो उन्हें अपनी जान का खतरा है।
विनेश फोगाट भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ की कमिटी के सामने पीड़ितों की पहचान उजागर करने पर सहमत हो गई हैं। विनेश ने कहा, ‘हमारे पास 5 से 6 महिला पहलवान हैं जिनका यौन शोषण हुआ है। हम उनके नामों का खुलासा अभी नहीं कर सकते।’
पिछले तीन दिनों से धरना-प्रदर्शन कर रहे पहलवान बृजभूषण सिंह के इस्तीफे और भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ के पूरे मैनेजमेंट को भंग करने की मांग कर रहे हैं। विनेश फोगाट, बजरंग पूनिया, साक्षी मलिक जैसे जाने-माने पहलवान कुश्ती महासंघ अध्यक्ष के खिलाफ फाइनल मुकाबले के मूड में हैं। इन पहलवानों को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और उनकी सरकार की तरफ से न्याय मिलने की काफी उम्मीदें हैं।
बृजभूषण शरण सिंह यूपी के रहनेवाले हैं जबकि उनके विरोध में मोर्चा संभाले ज्यादातर पहलवान हरियाणा के हैं। बृजभूषण शरण चाहते हैं कि पहलवानों का कोचिंग कैंप लखनऊ में लगे लेकिन यौन शोषण और हमलों के डर से पहलवान वहां जाने को तैयार नहीं हैं।
देश को मेडल दिलाने वाले खिलाड़ियों से अनुराग ठाकुर अगर एक दिन पहले ही बात कर लेते तो शायद बात इतनी नहीं बढ़ती। लेकिन मंत्रालय ने खिलाड़ियों को कमजोर समझा और पहलवानों ने दिखा दिया कि उनके इरादे कितने मजबूत हैं।
ये शर्म की बात है कि ओलंपिक समेत अंतरराष्ट्रीय टूर्नामेंटों में मेडल जीतकर देश की शान बढ़ाने वाले जाने-माने पहलवानों को यौन शोषण के विरोध में धरने पर बैठना पड़ा। मैं उन महिला पहलवानों की हिम्मत की दाद देना चाहूंगा जिन्होंने कुश्ती महासंघ में हो रहे गलत कामों का पर्दाफाश करने के लिए यह साहसी कदम उठाया।
पहलवानों ने किसी राजनीतिक दल को कुश्ती महासंघ के इस झगड़े का फायदा नहीं उठाने दिया। कांग्रेस को वहां आने से रोका औऱ सीपीएम की बृंदा करात को तो वापस भेज दिया। इससे ये साफ है कि इन पहलवानों का इरादा सरकार को एंबैरेस करने का नहीं है, उनकी मंशा पॉलिटिकल नहीं है। खिलाड़ी जो मांग कर रहे हैं वो मांगें भी गलत नहीं हैं। बजरंग पूनिया हो या विनेश फोगाट, वे यही कह रहे हैं कि लड़कियों का शोषण करने वालों को सजा दी जाए। कुश्ती महासंघ से ऐसे लोगों को बाहर किया जाए। ये कोई गलत मांग नहीं हैं। मुझे लगता है कि यह मांग जायज है।
इन खिलाड़ियों की दूसरी मांग ये है कि कुश्ती महासंघ में उन्हीं लोगों को रखा जाए जिन्हें कुश्ती का अनुभव है। मुझे तो हैरानी इस बात पर है कि दो दिन तक खेल मंत्रालय किस बात पर विचार कर रहा है? पहले ही बहुत देर हो चुकी है। अब बिना समय गंवाए खिलाड़ियों की मांग पर एक्शन लेने की जरूरत है।
The sooner, the better: Centre must take action against Wresting Federation chief
As the sit-in by female wrestlers entered the third day, pressure mounted on Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to resign, but the latter stood his ground, telling reporters, “if I speak, there will be a tsunami. I am not here because of someone’s charity. I have been elected by the people. ”
Senior officials in Sports Ministry pointed out that it could be difficult for the Centre to remove the president of an elected sports body. After a four-hour-long meeting with wrestlers at his official residence that stretched till 2 am last night, there was another round of talks at the Sports Ministry on Friday afternoon.
The wrestlers have sent a letter to P. T. Usha, chief of Indian Olympic Association requesting her to take action against Singh. In the letter, the wrestlers wrote, “Vinesh Phogat was mentally harassed and tortured by the WFI chief after she failed to win a medal in Tokyo Olympics”. The wrestlers wrote that they feared for their lives, if Singh continues as WFI chief.
Vinesh Phogat has agreed to reveal the identity of victims before the IOA committee. Vinesh said, “we now have 5 to 6 female wrestlers who have been sexually harassed. We can’t reveal their names now.”
Since the last three days, the protesting wrestlers have been demanding Singh’s resignation and the dissolution of the entire management in WFI. Top wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik are in a mood for a final bout with the WFI chief. The wrestlers have high hopes about getting justice from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh hails from UP, while most of the protesting wrestlers are from Haryana. Singh wants the wrestlers’ coaching camp to be held in his native place Lucknow, but the wrestlers are unwilling to go there, fearing sexual harassment and attacks.
The situation could not have gone out of hand had the Sports Minister Anurag Thakur spoken to the wrestlers a day earlier. The ministry, probably, thought the players were on a weak wicket, but the wrestlers have shown their strong determination.
It is a matter of shame that our top wrestlers who have brought fame to India in international tournaments, including Olympics, had to sit on dharna protesting sexual harassment. I would like to praise the courage shown by woman wrestlers who came out to expose the wrongdoings in the Federation.
The wrestlers did not allow outsider politicians to take undue benefit from their dharna, and politely told them to go away. The demands raised by wrestlers are justified. Wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have demanded that criminal action must be taken against those who indulged in sexual harassment of the players, and such persons should be thrown out of the Federation. I think this demand is also justified.
The wrestlers, sitting on dharna, want that the working conditions in the Federation must improve. I am surprised why their demands have not been accepted till now by the Sports Ministry, which has been discussing these issues for the last two days. Already, much time has been lost, and action must be taken without losing any more time.
शर्मनाक : कुश्ती महासंघ अध्यक्ष पर महिला पहलवानों ने लगाए यौन शोषण के आरोप
खेल मंत्रालय ने कुछ महिला पहलवानों द्वारा भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ (WFI) के अध्यक्ष और कुछ कोचों पर लगाए गए यौन शोषण के आरोपों को गंभीरता से लिया है। खेल मंत्रालय ने अगले 72 घंटे में इस मामले पर कुश्ती महासंघ से जवाब मांगा है। इसके बाद दिल्ली में जंतर-मंतर पर प्रदर्शन कर रहे पहलवानों और खेल मंत्रालय के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के बीच मीटिंग हुई। हालांकि, पहलवानों ने कहा कि जंतर-मंतर पर उनका धरना शुक्रवार को भी जारी रहेगा क्योंकि उन्हें जो आश्वासन मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों की तरफ से दिया जा रहा है उससे वे संतुष्ट नहीं हैं।
टोक्यो ओलंपिक्स में ब्रॉन्ड मेडल जीतनेवाले पहलवान बजरंग पुनिया ने कहा, ‘ अभी तक कोई ठोस कदम नहीं उठाया गया है, हमें केवल आश्वासन दिया गया है। 5 से 6 महिला पहलवानों के पास यौन उत्पीड़न के सबूत हैं। पुनिया ने कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष बृजभूषण शरण सिंह के इस्तीफे और उनकी गिरफ्तारी की मांग की।
देश की जानी-मानी पहलवान विनेश फोगाट और साक्षी मलिक पहले ही बीजेपी सांसद और भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष बृजभूषण शरण सिंह पर महिला पहलवानों के यौन शोषण का आरोप लगा चुकी हैं। इनका आरोप है कि पिछले कई वर्षों से नेशनल कैम्प के दौरान कई महिला पहलवानों का यौन शोषण किया गया।
इन आरोपों ने पूरे भारतीय खेल जगत को झकझोर कर रख दिया है। खेल स्पर्धाओं के प्रशासकों की बदनामी हुई है। विनेश फोगाट ने दो बार वर्ल्ड चैम्पियनशिप का खिताब जीता है और तीन बार राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में गोल्ड मेडल जीता है। विनेश ने आरोप लगाया कि बृजभूषण शरण सिंह ने कुश्ती महासंघ के कुछ प्रभावशाली पदाधिकारियों के माध्यम से उसे जान से मारने की धमकी दी। पहलवानों का यह विरोध प्रदर्शन बुधवार को उस वक्त से शुरू हुआ जब विनेश फोगाट, ओलंपिक ब्रॉन्ज मेडल विजेता साक्षी मलिक और टोक्यो ओलंपिक में मेडल जीतने वाले बजरंग पुनिया के साथ जंतर-मंतर पर धरने पर बैठ गईं। इन पहलवानों ने गुरुवार को भी अपना धरना जारी रखा।
जरा सोचिए कि इस कड़कड़ाती ठंड में देश के जाने-माने पहलवानों को महिला पहलवानों के यौन शोषण के विरोध में खुले आसमान के नीचे बैठना पड़ा है। पहलवानों के आरोप वाकई हैरान करनेवाले हैं। यह देश के सभी खेल प्रेमियों के लिए गंभीर चिंता का विषय है।
बजरंग पुनिया ने कहा कि कुश्ती महासंघ में तानाशाही चल रही है, सिलेक्शन के लिए मनमाने नियम बनाए जा रहे हैं, जो खिलाड़ी देश को मेडल दिलाते हैं उन्हें कोच तक नहीं दिए जा रहे हैं। साक्षी मलिक ने कहा कि जानबूझ कर बार-बार लखनऊ में कोचिंग कैंप आयोजित किए जाते हैं क्योंकि कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष बृजभूषण शरण सिंह लखनऊ में रहते हैं। वे लखनऊ के पास कैसरगंज लोकसभा सीट से सांसद हैं। लड़कियों को उनके पास जाने के लिए मजबूर किया जाता है। जो इसका विरोध करता है उसे अंजाम भुगतने के लिए तैयार रहने को कहा जाता है।
आमतौर पर खिलाड़ी न सियासत में पड़ते हैं, न धरने पर बैठते हैं, न तो नारेबाजी करते हैं और न ही बयानबाजी करते हैं। लेकिन देश को गोल्ड और ब्रॉन्ज मेडल दिलानेवाले पहलवान धरने पर बैठें, यह बेहद अफसोसजनक और हैरान करनेवाला है।
मामला बढ़ने पर भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष बृजभूषण शरण सिंह बाराबंकी से दिल्ली पहुंचे। उन्होंने कहा कि वे निर्दोष हैं और अगर यौन शोषण के आरोप साबित होते हैं तो वे फांसी पर लटकने के लिए तैयार हैं। उन्होंने कुश्ती महासंघ के सचिव विनोद तोमर को पहलवानों से बात करने के लिए भेजा लेकिन पहलवानों ने उनसे बात करने से इनकार कर दिया।
बृजभूषण शरण सिंह ने आरोप लगाया कि दिल्ली में चल रहे पहलवानों के इस विरोध-प्रदर्शन के पीछे एक बड़े उद्योगपति का हाथ है। उन्होंने कहा, पहलवान अपने आरोपों को साबित करने के लिए अभी तक कोई ठोस सबूत लेकर सामने नहीं आए हैं। बृजभूषण शरण सिंह ने इस्तीफा देने से साफ इंकार कर दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि वे जांच से नहीं डरते हैं। वे इन आरोपों की सीबीआई जांच का भी सामना करने के लिए तैयार हैं।
यह शर्म की बात है कि एक महासंघ के अध्यक्ष को अपने खिलाडिय़ों के यौन शोषण के आरोपों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है, और आरोप भी खासतौर पर उन खिलाड़ियों ने लगाया जिन्होंने कुश्ती के अखाड़े से देश का गौरव बढ़ाया है।
मैं आपको बता दूं कि इन्हीं पहलवानों की वजह से 2022 के कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स में भारत को कुश्ती में 12 मेडल मिले। इन्हीं पहलवानों की वजह से 2020 के टोक्यो ओलंपिक में कुश्ती में देश को दो मेडल मिले, इनमें से एक मेडल बजरंग पूनिया ने जीता था। इन पहलवानों की वजह से भारत ने अब तक ओलंपिक इतिहास में सात मेडल जीते हैं। अगर इन पहलवानों को धरने पर बैठना पड़े तो इससे ज्यादा शर्म की बात कोई नहीं हो सकती।
A crying shame: Sexual harassment charges by medal winning wrestlers
The Sports Ministry on Thursday sought a response from Wrestling Federation of India within the next 72 hours on ‘sexual harassment’ allegations levelled by female wrestlers against the Wrestling Federation of India president and some coaches.
This followed a meeting between the protesting wrestlers and senior ministry officials. However, the wrestlers said they would continue with their sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, on Friday since they are not satisfied with assurances.
Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Bajrang Punia said, “there has been no concrete action so far, we have only got assurances. There are five to six female athletes who have proof about sexual harassment”. Punia demanded the resignation and arrest of WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
India’s leading women wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have already levelled allegations about BJP MP and WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh “sexually exploiting” several women grapplers at national camps for years.
These allegations have rocked Indian sports and have brought a bad name for sports administrators. Vinesh Phogat has won the World Championship title twice and has won gold at Commonwealth Games thrice. She alleged that Singh gave her death threats through some influential WFI office-bearers. The protest began on Wednesday when Vinesh Phogat along with Olympics bronze medal winner Sakshi Malik and Tokyo Olympics medalist Bajrang Punia sat on dharna at Jantar Mantar, and continued their sit-in on Thursday.
Think about the biting cold weather in which our famous wrestlers had to sit under open sky to protest against sexual harassment of women grapplers. The allegations are indeed astounding. It is a matter of serious concern for all sports lovers in India.
Bajrang Punia has alleged that an atmosphere of dictatorship is going on inside WFI, selection rules are being framed arbitrarily, and wrestlers who have won medals for India are not being given coaches. Sakshi Malik alleged that WFI coaching camps are deliberately held in Lucknow because the WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is the Lok Sabha MP from Kaiserganj near Lucknow. She alleged that female wrestlers were forced to meet Singh, and those who opposed were given death threats.
Normally players do not get themselves involved in politics, nor do they sit on dharna, but the sight of gold and bronze medal winning wrestlers sitting in protest was a sorry spectacle.
WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who rushed from Barabanki to Delhi on Wednesday, said that he was innocent and he was ready to face death punishment if the sexual exploitation charges are proved. He sent WFI secretary Vinod Tomar to speak to the wrestlers, but the latter refused to talk to him.
Singh alleged that a top industrialist was behind this protest by wrestlers in Delhi. He said, the wrestlers have not yet come forward with any concrete proof to substantiate their allegations. Singh refused to resign and said he was ready to face a CBI probe into all allegations.
It is a shame that the president of a federation has to face sexual exploitation allegations from his players, particularly from those who brought glory to India from the wrestling ring.
Remember, it was because of these wrestlers that India won 12 medals in wrestling at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It was because of these wrestlers that India won two medals at 2020 Tokyo Olympics. One of these medals was won by Bajrang Punia. Because of these players, India has won seven medals in Olympic history till now. If such renowned wrestlers have to sit on dharna, there can be nothing more shameful.
मुसलमानों तक मोदी की पहुंच 2024 में गेमचेंजर साबित होगी
अगले साल होने वाले लोकसभा चुनावों में जीत की हैट्रिक के अपने लक्ष्य को हासिल करने के लिए प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने मंगलवार को अपनी पार्टी के कार्यकर्ताओं को मुसलमानों, ईसाइयों और अन्य अल्पसंख्यकों से संवाद करने और यह सुनिश्चित करने का आह्वान किया कि कल्याणकारी योजनाओं का लाभ हाशिये पर पड़े समुदायों के हर घर तक पहुंचे।
बीजेपी की राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारिणी को संबोधित करते हुए मोदी ने पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं से कहा कि वे आत्मसंतुष्टि और अतिआत्मविश्वास से बचें। उन्होंने कार्यकर्ताओं को बताया कि कैसे वे पूरे देश में अल्पसंख्यकों, और खासतौर से मुसलमानों के साथ संवाद शुरू करें।
मोदी ने कहा, ‘हमें रविवार को सामूहिक सभाओं के दौरान चर्च जाकर संवाद करना चाहिए। इसी तरह हमें सिख समुदाय तक पहुंचना चाहिए। अयोध्या में राम मंदिर बनाने का हमारा उद्देश्य पूरा हो गया है, लेकिन हमें यह भी आत्मनिरीक्षण करने की आवश्यकता है कि क्या हम संत रविदास और महर्षि वाल्मीकि के मंदिरों में गए हैं? हमें रविदास जयंती और वाल्मीकि जयंती मनानी चाहिए और हाशिये पर खड़े समुदायों और दलितों के साथ मजबूत रिश्ता बनाना चाहिए। हमें पसमांदा मुसलमानों (दलित और पिछड़े मुसलमानों), बोहरा समुदाय, मुस्लिम प्रोफेशनल्स और पढ़े-लिखे मुसलमानों से मिलना चाहिए और उन्हें हमारे कल्याणकारी कामों के बारे में बताना चाहिए।’
मोदी ने मुसलमानों के साथ ‘भरोसे का रिश्ता’ बनाने पर भी बात की। उन्होंने कहा, बीजेपी के कार्यकर्ताओं को उन मुसलमानों को लेकर परेशान नहीं होना चाहिए जो आम तौर पर पार्टी को नहीं देते और उन्होंने कई राज्यों में पसमांदा मुसलमानों तक पार्टी की पहुंच की मिसाल दी। प्रधानमंत्री ने अपनी पार्टी के लोगों को मुस्लिम समुदाय के बारे में ऐसी गैरजरूरी बयानबाजी से बचने की सलाह दी, जिससे समाज में दूरियां बढ़ती हों।
जैसा कि माना जा रहा था, राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारिणी ने वर्तमान पार्टी अध्यक्ष जे. पी. नड्डा का कार्यकाल जून 2024 तक बढ़ा दिया। गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने कहा, ‘प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व और जे. पी. नड्डा के संगठनात्मक नेतृत्व में, बीजेपी 2024 से भी बड़ी जीत हासिल करेगी और मोदी जी एक बार फिर प्रधानमंत्री होंगे।’
यह पहली बार नहीं है जब मोदी ने मुसलामनों के पास जाने और बेवजह विवादित बयानों से बचने का निर्देश दिया है। मोदी यह बात 2014 से कहते आ रहे हैं। ‘आप की अदालत’ में उन्होंने कहा था कि वह चाहते हैं कि मुसलमानों के एक हाथ में अगर कुरान है तो दूसरे हाथ में कंप्यूटर हो। मोदी ‘एक भारत, श्रेष्ठ भारत’ और ‘सबका साथ, सबका विकास, सबका विश्वास’ की बात हमेशा कहते रहे हैं। उन्होंने गोहत्या के खिलाफ लिंचिंग करने वालों को भी अपराधी बताया था। तीन तलाक और हलाला जैसी परंपराओं के खिलाफ उठाए गए कदमों से मोदी को मुस्लिम महिलाओं का समर्थन मिला है।
मोदी ने जिस तरह से अपनी पार्टी के कार्यकर्ताओं को मुसलमानों के मन में बीजेपी के प्रति बैठाए गए शक को दूर करने की बात की है, उससे यह साफ है कि प्रधानमंत्री अब मुसलमानों को भरोसा दिलाना चाहते हैं कि बीजेपी उनके खिलाफ नहीं है। यह काम आसान नहीं है लेकिन अगर बीजेपी इसमें थोड़ी बहुत भी कामयाब हो पाई तो यह अगले लोकसभा चुनावों में गेंमचेंजर साबित होगा।
विपक्ष, और खास तौर पर राहुल गांधी लगातार कहते रहे हैं कि जनता में बीजेपी के खिलाफ नाराजगी है, और उसे इसका नुकसान होगा। कांग्रेस के नेता कह रहे हैं कि बीजेपी को भी जनता की नाराजगी का एहसास है, इसलिए अब मोदी मुसलमानों के दिल जीतने की बात कह रहे हैं।
वहीं, बीजेपी को मोदी की योजनाओं पर यकीन है। बीजेपी का कहना है कि मोदी ने सबको घर दिए, हर घर में नल का कनेक्शन दिया, हर गांव में इंटरनेट पहुंचाया, हर गांव तक सड़क पहुंचाई, 81 करोड़ लोगों को मुफ्त राशन दिया, 22 लाख करोड़ रुपये डायरेक्ट बेनिफिट ट्रांसफर के जरिए लोगों के अकाउंट्स में पहुंचाए, कोरोना महामारी के दौरान वैक्सीन की 223 करोड़ डोज देश भर में लोगों को लगाई गई, और यह सब काम बगैर जाति-धर्म को देखे किया गया। इन सब कामों में हिंदुओं और मुसलमानों में कोई भेद नहीं किया गया और योजनाओं का फायदा सबको मिला।
बीजेपी के नेताओं और कार्यकर्ताओं को पूरा यकीन है कि मोदी को सभी धर्मों और जातियों के लाभार्थियों से प्यार और स्नेह मिला है, और यह सकारात्मक दृष्टिकोण पार्टी को अगले लोकसभा चुनावों में भरपूर फायदा दिलाने में मदद कर सकता है।
2024 gamechanger: Modi’s outreach towards Muslims
In his aim to achieve a hat-trick in Lok Sabha elections, due next year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave a clarion call to his party men to reach out to Muslims, Christians and other minorities and ensure that the benefits of welfare reach every household among the marginalized communities.
Addressing the BJP national executive, Modi cautioned party workers about any sense of complacency or overconfidence, and then spoke about how to begin a nationwide outreach towards minorities, particularly Muslims.
Modi said, “We should be in front of a church on Sunday when mass gatherings take place. Similarly, we should reach out to the Sikh community. Our objective to build the Ram temple in Ayodhya has been achieved, but we also need to introspect whether we have been to the temples built for Sant Ravidas and Mahrashi Valmiki? We should celebrate Ravidas Jayanti and Valmiki Jayantiand developed strong bonding with the marginalised and downtrodden communities. We should meet Pasmanda Muslims (Dalit and Backward Muslims), Bohra community, Muslim professionals and educated Muslims and tell them about the welfare work that we have done.”
Modi spoke about ‘Bharose Ka Rishta’ (a relationship of trust) with the Muslims. He said, BJP workers should not be worried about those Muslims who are normally unwilling to vote for the party and gave the example of the party’s outreach towards Pasmanda Muslims in several states. The Prime Minister advised his party men to avoid making unnecessary remarks about Muslim community that could result in a communal divide.
The national executive, as expected, extended the tenure of the present party president J P Nadda till June, 2024, with Home Minister Amit Shah saying, “under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and organizational leadership of J P Nadda, BJP will win with a bigger margin in 2024 and Modi Ji will be the Prime Minister once again.”
This is not the first time that Modi has spoken about an outreach towards minorities and the need to refrain from making unnecessary remarks about Muslims. During 2014 Lok Sabha elections, I remember Modi saying in ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, that I want to see the day when Muslim youths will be holding the holy Quran in one hand, and a computer in another. Modi had been speaking about ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat’ and ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Vikas’. He had described those engaged in mob lynching as criminals. He brought laws to end ‘triple talaq’ and ‘halala’ traditions, which were welcomed by Muslim women in particular.
The manner in which Prime Minister Modi spoke about removing misgivings from the minds of Muslims about BJP clearly indicates that this is achievable, though it may not be an easy work. If the party gets even partial success in this endeavor, it could prove to be a gamechanger in the next Lok Sabha elections.
The opposition, in particular Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, had been saying ad nauseum that there is ‘anger’ among the people towards BJP, and that Modi’s call for an outreach towards Muslims could be a deceptive move.
The fact is that Modi and his party has given houses to the poor, provided taps for drinking water, connected every village with roads and internet, distributed free foodgrains to nearly 81 crore people, transferred Rs 22 lakh crore through direct benefit transfer, ensured that 223 Covid vaccination doses were given during the pandemic: all irrespective of religion and caste. No differentiation was made between Hindus and Muslims while providing these public welfare benefits.
BJP leaders and workers are confident about the love and affection that Modi has received from beneficiaries from all religions and castes, and this positive outlook can help the party in reaping rich dividends in the next Lok Sabha elections.

2024 के लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले देश के दो प्रमुख सियासी दल बीजेपी और कांग्रेस ने अपनी-अपनी ताकत दिखानी शुरू कर दी है। कभी रोड शो तो कभी रणनीतिक बैठकों के आयोजन का सिलसिला शुरू हो चुका है। सोमवार को दिल्ली में बीजेपी की राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारिणी की बैठक शुरू हुई साथ ही पीएम मोदी ने छोटा सा रोड शो भी किया। उधर, पंजाब में राहुल गांधी की ‘भारत जोड़ो यात्रा’ जारी है। बीजेपी राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारिणी की बैठक में पार्टी अध्यक्ष जेपी नड्डा ने अगले डेढ़ साल में होने वाले सभी चुनावों को जीतने का लक्ष्य सामने रखा। उन्होंने कहा कि 2023 पार्टी के लिए अहम वर्ष है क्योंकि 9 राज्यों में चुनाव होनेवाले हैं। राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारिणी में करीब साढ़े तीन सौ सदस्य होते हैं। इनमें 50 स्थायी आमंत्रित सदस्य और 179 विशेष आमंत्रित सदस्य होते हैं। विशेष आमंत्रित सदस्यों में 35 केन्द्रीय मंत्री, 12 मुख्यमंत्री, विभिन्न राज्यों में पार्टी के विपक्ष के नेता, प्रदेश अध्यक्ष और तमाम पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री शामिल हैं।
बीजेपी की रणनीति साफ है। उसके पास मजबूत नेता के रूप में नरेंद्र मोदी हैं और पार्टी मोदी के नाम पर वोट मांगेगी। चुनाव चाहे विधानसभा का हो या लोकसभा का, फोटो नरेंद्र मोदी की ही चलेगी। मोदी की साफ-सुथरी छवि और लोगों तक डायरेक्ट बेनिफिट पहुंचाने की क्षमता पर बीजेपी का फोकस होगा। मोदी की रणनीति साफ है कि जनता के पास जाना है। जनता से फीडबैक लेनी है और जनता जो कमियां बताती हैं उन्हें दुरूस्त करना है।
वहीं, कांग्रेस की रणनीति बीजेपी के विपरीत है। कांग्रेस की रणनीति है नरेन्द्र मोदी की छवि पर हमला करना। राहुल गांधी की ‘भारत जोड़ो यात्रा’ के केंद्र में भी यही रणनीति रही है। कांग्रेस का दावा है कि राहुल की ‘भारत जोड़ो यात्रा’ से बीजेपी डर गई है। इस यात्रा में लोगों की संख्या बढ़ने से बीजेपी नेतृत्व चिंतित है। कांग्रेस वरिष्ठ नेता और राहुल गांधी के रणनीतिकार जयराम रमेश ने कहा कि मोदी का रोड शो एक इवेन्ट मैनेजमेंट है वहीं राहुल की भारत जोड़ो यात्रा एक आंदोलन है।
राहुल की यात्रा को करीब चार महीने होने वाले हैं और वे कन्याकुमारी से पंजाब तक करीब 3200 किलोमीटर तक पैदल चल चुके हैं। लेकिन न उनका भाषण बदला, न स्टाइल बदला, न डायलॉग बदले। कई बार उनका पूरा भाषण सुनने के बाद पता ही नहीं लगता कि इसमें नई बात क्या है ? और सिर्फ राहुल गांधी का यह हाल नहीं है, कांग्रेस पार्टी का ही ये हाल है। कांग्रेस का अगला अधिवेशन 24 से 26 फरवरी तक छत्तीसगढ़ के रायपुर में होगा।
कांग्रेस अभी भी पुराने परंपरगत तरीकों से चुनाव लड़ना चाहती है और जीतना चाहती है। कर्नाटक में अप्रैल में चुनाव होने हैं। सोमवार को प्रियंका गांधी बेंगलुरु पहुंचीं जहां उन्होंने महिलाओं की एक रैली को संबोधित किया। इस रैली का नाम कन्नड़ में रखा गया ‘ना नायिकी’, जिसका अर्थ है मैं एक महिला नेता हूं। इस रैली में प्रियंका गांधी ने ऐलान किया कि अगर कर्नाटक में कांग्रेस की सरकार बनी तो परिवार चलाने वाली हर महिला को हर महीने दो हज़ार रुपए दिए जाएंगे। कांग्रेस ने इस स्कीम को गृह लक्ष्मी योजना का नाम दिया है। इससे पहले कांग्रेस ने सरकार बनने पर हर घर को 200 यूनिट बिजली फ्री देने का वादा किया था। प्रियंका ने कर्नाटक की बीजेपी सरकार पर भ्रष्टाचार का आरोप लगाया और कहा कि बीजेपी सरकार के मंत्री सरकारी परियोजनाओं 40-40 प्रतिशत कमीशन ले रहे हैं।
पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव में कांग्रेस थोड़े से अंतर से चुनाव जीती थी लेकिन बाद में कांग्रेस टूट गई और अब कर्नाटक में बीजेपी की सरकार है। 224 सीटों वाली विधानसभा में कांग्रेस के सदस्यों की संख्या 224 से घटकर 80 हो गई है। दल-बदल के कारण कांग्रेस-जद (एस) गठबंधन सरकार गिर गई और सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बीजेपी अब सत्ता में है। गुजरात, राजस्थान और मध्य प्रदेश के बाद कर्नाटक ही एक ऐसा बड़ा राज्य है जहां कांग्रेस, बीजेपी के साथ सीधे मुकाबले में हैं। कर्नाटक में कांग्रेस के पास नेता भी हैं और कार्यकर्ता भी लेकिन पार्टी की अंदरुनी गुटबाजी कांग्रेस का खेल खराब देती है। सिद्धारमैया और डी. के. शिवकुमार की आपसी खींचतान जगजाहिर है।
कांग्रेस हाईकमान फिलहाल इन दोनों नेताओं के बीच सुलह कराने पर ताकत लगा रहा है। कर्नाटक जैसा ही झगड़ा राजस्थान में अशोक गहलोत और सचिन पायलट के बीच है। वहां भी पार्टी सुलह की कोशिशों में जुटी है। केंद्र में एक मजबूत लीडरशिप के अभाव में कांग्रेस के अंदर इस तरह की गुटबाजी एक अभिशाप की तरह है। वहीं बीजेपी का नेतृत्व ठीक इसके विपरीत है, जिसे हम सब देख रहे हैं।
Congress and BJP: A striking contrast in leadership
In the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the two major political parties, BJP and Congress have already begun to flex their muscles by carrying out road shows and strategy meetings. On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a small road show at the beginning of BJP national executive meet, while the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ of Rajul Gandhi continues in Punjab. The BJP president J P Nadda told the national executive that “2023 is a crucial year for the party as it will have to contest elections in 9 states”. The meeting was attended by 350 members, 50 permanent invitees, 179 special invitees, which included 35 central ministers, 12 chief ministers, and leaders of opposition and state party chiefs.
BJP’s strategy is clear. It has Narendra Modi as the strong leader, and the party will be seeking votes in the name of Modi, whether in assembly or parliamentary polls. Modi’s clean image and his capability of providing direct benefit to poor people will be focused. The party will try to reach out of people, get feedback and iron out weaknesses.
On the contrary, the Congress’ strategy is to attack Modi’s image. This has been the central point of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Congress leaders claim that the BJP leadership is worried about the turnout of people in the Yatra. Rahul Gandhi’s strategist Jairam Ramesh said on Monday that while Modi’s road show was an event management, Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra is a movement.
Rahul’s Yatra is going to complete four months and he has already traversed 3,200 kilometres from Kanyakumari up to Punjab. There has been no change in his style of speech, his dialogues, and several times it appears as if his speech, the style of presentation are the same. This is not only Rahul’s problem, but a common refrain with Congress leaders. Congress will be holding its next session in Raipur, Chhattisgarh from February 24 to 26.
The Grand Old Party wants to contest and win elections in the same traditional manner. Elections are due in April this year in Karnataka. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached Bengaluru on Monday and addressed a women’s rally. It was named Na Nayaki, which means, I am a woman leader. She promised her party would give Rs 2,000 monthly sop for every woman head of households in Karnataka. Earlier, the party had announced 200 units free electricity to every household. Priyanka Gandhi alleged that ministers in Karnataka were taking commissions up to 40 per cent in government projects.
In the last assembly elections in Karnataka, Congress was seeking re-election after ruling for five years, but its tally fell from 122 to 80 in a house of 224. The Congress-JD(S) coalition government fell due to defections, and BJP, which was the single largest party, is now in power. Karnataka is the only state after Gujarat, Rajasthan and MP, where Congress is in direct fight with BJP. Congress has leaders and workers in Karnataka, but the party is facing groupism. The rivalry between Siddaramaiah and D. K. Shivakumar is well-known.
The party high command is trying hard for a patchup, similar on the lines of Rajasthan where Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot are at loggerheads. Groupism in the party due to lack of a strong leadership at the Centre seems to be the bane of Congress politics. BJP’s leadership is in striking contrast, for all to see.
बिहार, यूपी, बंगाल, असम के लिए वरदान साबित हो सकता है गंगा क्रूज
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने शुक्रवार को दुनिया के सबसे लंबे (3,200 किलोमीटर लंबे) रिवर क्रूज को हरी झंडी दिखाई। एम.वी. गंगा विलास क्रूज अपनी पहली यात्रा में जर्मन और स्विस पर्यटकों को लेकर वाराणसी से रवाना हुआ और 51 दिनों के बाद बांग्लादेश होते हुए असम के डिब्रूगढ़ पहुंचेगा। मोदी ने उम्मीद जताई की कि क्रूज पर्यटन का यह नया युग नौकरी के नए मौके और स्वरोजगार पैदा करेगा। उन्होंने कहा, क्रूज पर्यटन को बढ़ावा देने के लिए और अधिक अंतर्देशीय जलमार्ग विकसित किए जा रहे हैं।
मोदी ने कहा कि भारत बुनियादी ढांचे का ऐसा स्तर देख रहा है जिसकी कुछ साल पहले कल्पना भी नहीं की जा सकती थी। उन्होंने यूपी, बिहार, पश्चिम बंगाल और असम के लिए जलमार्ग विकास की 1,000 करोड़ रुपये की परियोजनाओं और वाराणसी में एक टेंट सिटी परियोजना का भी उद्घाटन किया।
गंगा विलास यात्रा क्रूज की लागत प्रति व्यक्ति न्यूनतम 20 लाख रुपये है, जो 51 दिनों की यात्रा के लिए प्रति यात्री 50 लाख रुपये तक जा सकती है। यात्रा के दौरान केवल शाकाहारी भोजन परोसा जाएगा और शराब पीने की इजाजत नहीं होगी। क्रूज पर स्पा, सैलून, जिम और अन्य सुविधाएं उपलब्ध हैं।
यह क्रूज वर्ल्ड हेरिटेज साइट्स, नदी के घाटों, नेशनल पार्क और पटना, ढाका, कोलकाता एवं गुवाहाटी जैसे शहरों सहित लगभग 50 पर्यटन स्थलों को कवर करेगा। पीएम द्वारा क्रूज को हरी झंडी दिखाने के बाद कई विपक्षी दलों ने यह कहते हुए इसका विरोध किया कि इससे गंगा नदी में मछली पकड़ने वाले मछुआरों और नाव चलाने वाले नाविकों का रोजगार खतरे में पड़ जाएगा।
समाजवादी पार्टी के मुखिया अखिलेश यादव ने पूछा कि गंगा में अगर क्रूज चलेगा तो मल्लाह क्या करेंगे, उनकी नाव में कौन बैठेगा। कांग्रेस ने कहा कि क्रूज बेकार की चीज है, जबकि जेडीयू के नेता ललन सिंह ने कहा कि बिहार में उनकी सरकार गंगा में माल की ढुलाई नहीं होने देगी। उन्होंने कहा कि क्रूज पैसे की बर्बादी है।
मोदी ने अपने भाषण में गंगा नदी को ‘मां’ और भारत की जीवन रेखा कहा। उन्होंने रोजगार के मौकों की कमी के कारण गंगा के आसपास बसे शहरों से मजदूरों के पलायन की ओर इशारा किया। मोदी ने कहा, क्रूज और वाराणसी की नयी टेंट सिटी पर्यटन और रोजगार के अवसरों को बढ़ावा देगी।
समाजवादी पार्टी सुप्रीमो अखिलेश यादव ने दावा किया कि बीजेपी पुराने माल को रंग रोगन करके बेच रही है। अखिलेश ने कहा कि उन्होंने अपनी सरकार के वक्त जो नावें खरीदी थी, अब बीजेपी की सरकार उन्हीं नावों को अपना बता रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि मोदी ने गंगा की सफाई का वादा किया था, लेकिन वह वादा पूरा नहीं हुआ। कांग्रेस नेता जयराम रमेश ने कहा कि मोदी सरकार पहले ये बताए कि नमामि गंगे योजना का क्या हुआ और गंगा की गंदगी क्यों खत्म नहीं हुई? उन्होंने कहा, ‘वे कभी क्रूज तो कभी टेंट सिटी जैसे ड्रामे कर रहे हैं।’
उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने कहा कि उनकी सरकार ने गंगा के प्रदूषण को रोकने के लिए डीजल से चलने वाली नावों की जगह नाविकों को CNG नावें उपलब्ध कराई हैं। उन्होंने कहा, यूपी लैंडलॉक्ड राज्य है, और चूंकि आसपास कोई समंदर नहीं है, इसलिए राज्य के छोटे-छोटे शहरों में बनने वाले प्रोडक्ट इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर की कमी के चलते दुनिया की नजरों में नहीं आ पाते। उन्होंने कहा कि गंगा रिवर क्रूज से छोटे कारीगरों को फायदा होगा और उनके प्रोडक्ट सीधे अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजारों में पहुंच सकेंगे।
इसमें तो कोई शक नहीं कि अब तक रिवर क्रूज के बारे में न कांग्रेस ने सोचा, न समाजवादी पार्टी ने सोचा। पहली बार यह आइडिया मोदी ने दिया और इसे लागू करके दिखा दिया। यह भी सही है कि क्रूज चलने से कोई बहुत बड़ा चमत्कार नहीं होगा, लेकिन इससे नदियों से शहरों को जोड़ने की जो बात पिछले 30 साल से चल रही है, वह साकार होगी।
अगर पर्यटकों की संख्या बढ़ती है तो इससे पूरे शहर का फायदा होता है, लेकिन चूंकि यह काम मोदी ने किया है, इसलिए विरोधी दल विरोध कर रहे हैं। गंगा के किनारे के इलाकों में मल्लाहों की संख्या काफी ज्यादा है, उनका बड़ा वोट बैंक है। इसलिए अखिलेश ने क्रूज को मल्लाहों का रोजगार खाने वाला बताया, और योगी ने इसे गंगापुत्रों के लिए वरदान बता दिया।
अखिलेश यादव को पता होना चाहिए कि क्रूज में एक बार में कुल 36 मुसाफिर सफर कर सकते हैं, साल में सिर्फ 6 टूर होंगे। यानी कुल 216 यात्री साल भर में क्रूज में सफर कर सकेंगे। काशी में हर साल लाखों पर्यटक पहुंचते हैं। ऐसे में क्रूज से मल्लाहों को नुकसान कैसे हो सकता है?
अखिलेश को बिहार के उपमुख्यमंत्री तेजस्वी यादव से सीखना चाहिए, जिन्होंने क्रूज का स्वागत किया और इसे लोगों को लिए वरदान बताया। तेजस्वी ने कहा कि इससे रोजगार भी बढ़ेगा और गंगा के आसपास बसे शहरों की अर्थव्यवस्था भी सुधरेगी। इस क्रूज के जरिए विदेशी सैलानी बिहार के गौरवशाली इतिहास को जान सकेंगे, और राज्य की ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों को देख सकेंगे।
तेजस्वी क्रूज के उद्घाटन के मौके पर उपमुख्यमंत्री के तौर पर बोले, इसलिए उन्होंने पद की गरिमा के हिसाब से बात की। लेकिन ललन सिंह जेडीयू अध्यक्ष के तौर पर बोल रहे हैं, इसलिए क्रूज की आलोचना कर रहे हैं।
ललन सिंह नीतीश कुमार को प्रधानमंत्री पद का दावेदार बनाने के लिए मेहनत कर रहे हैं, तो जाहिर सी बात है कि वह मोदी की किसी योजना का सपोर्ट कैसे कर सकते हैं। मुझे लगता है कि जब विकास की बात हो तो सियासत से ऊपर उठकर सोचना चाहिए।
