Fake news factory: How Pakistan is misusing YouTube to spread lies about India
Today I want to speak about the fake news factory that is being run by Pakistan. This fake news factory has been churning out fake anti-India stories day and night. There are 20 YouTube channels and two websites that were allegedly being run by a network called Naya Pakistan Group (NPG). It has its own network of 15 YouTube channels and five standalone ones. These channels had a combined subscriber base of over 37 lakhs on the video sharing platform YouTube and their videos were garnering more than 58 crore views. On Tuesday, the Centre blocked all these 20 YouTube channels and two Pakistani websites that were peddling fake and concocted stories against India.
When India’s Information & Broadcasting Ministry started monitoring these channels and websites, it was found that these platforms were being systematically used to spread hate against Indian army, and were targeting Indian Muslims in particular.
Sample some of their fake and concocted news stories: (1) US and Turkey are going to send their armies to Kashmir, after PM Modi refused to restore Article 370, (2) another story speculated that the Indian army chief may be removed because of differences between the government and the army, (3) a third video claimed that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is going to send his army to stall the construction of Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. Many of these concocted stories are laughable and ridiculous, but they were being seriously peddled by the anchors, who claimed to be senior Pakistani journalists.
Some of these YouTube channels were being operated by senior anchors from Pakistani news channels to lend credence to fake stories. The I&B Ministry issued two orders: one, directing YouTube to block 20 such channels, and two, requested Department of Telecom to direct internet service providers to block the two Pakistani websites/portals that are peddling fake news against India. The YouTube channels were being used to disseminate divisive content in a coordinated manner on sensitive issues like Kashmir, Indian army, Indian Muslims and Ayodhya temple.
An official statement said: “The Ministry has acted to secure the information space in India, and utilized emergency powers under Rule 16 of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. The Ministry observed that most of the contents pertain to subjects sensitive from the perspective of national security and are factually incorrect, and are being mainly posted from Pakistan as a coordinated disinformation network.”
The fake news that are being peddled on YouTube were being easily accessed by Indian viewers and readers on smart phones, laptops and tablets. Since Pakistan has failed to make revocation of Article 370 in Kashmir an international issue, and has lost four wars with India in its 74-year-long chequered history, it has now unleashed propaganda war by spreading falsehoods. Pakistan’s gambit of spreading violence in Kashmir by sending infiltrators has failed in the last two years. The Centre therefore decided to block these 20 YouTube channels and two websites, in close coordination with inputs from intelligence agencies.
In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Tuesday night, we mentioned the names of those Pakistanis who are running these YouTube channels. The main person among them is Tayyab Hanif, a Pakistani, who claims to be a “renowned journalist and content writer with more than 7 years of experience in electronic media, YouTuber and social media.” Tayyab Hanif runs the Naya Pakistan Group. He uses a Pakistani lady, Kaneez Fatima, who claims to be “an award winning news anchor, journalist and political analyst with over a decade of experience in journalism and content creation”. Another anchor is Najmul Hassan Bajwa, who claims to be “an investigative journalist, anchor and YouTuber from Lahore”.
There is also a YouTube channel called Fictional 300 Indian Spy which peddles concocted anti-India stories. On September 18, 2021, it headlined, ‘Taliban executes more than 300 Indian spies, a clear message to Modi and Yogi”. This video had more than 2.5 lakh views, and 6,000-plus likes. The aim was to denigrate the Indian PM and the UP CM and harm India’s image. This YouTube channel has more than 3 lakh subscribers. On November 16, 2020, it headlined a story saying “US President Biden and Turkish President Erdogan are going to send armies to Kashmir, after Modi refused to restore Article 370”. It garnered more than 87,000 views and nearly 2,000 likes.
Kashmir and Indian army seem to be the two favourite topics for these fake news peddlers. Another YouTube channel named Historical Facts reported on December 5, 2021 that Turkish President Erdogan has sent 35,000 militants to Kashmir. The Pakistani establishment is trying to post these fake stories in order to boost the sagging morale of its terrorist sympathizers lying low in the Valley. The reason: Kashmiri youths are now refusing to become terrorists and play into the hands of Pakistan.
Sample this ridiculously concocted story from Punjab Viral YouTube channel on November 20, 2021: “Indian jawans recited ‘kalma’ after Kashmiri mujahideen took them into custody”. The next day, another YouTube channel Punchline posted this fake story: “200 Indian army jawans were converted to Islam in Kashmir”. This fake news was again picked up by another YouTube channel The Naked Truth. Another YouTube channel, Junaid Halim Official, posted this fake story about “American hand behind the chopper crash” in which CDS Gen Bipin Rawat was martyred. On December 10, another Pakistani channel named Mohsin Rajput Official posted the fake story about “LTTE downing the Indian army chopper that was carrying Gen. Bipin Rawat”.
There are many YouTube channels in Pakistan, which are not yet blocked. These channels have been peddling fake and concocted anti-India news. Sabir Shakir is a well-known Pakistani TV anchor, journalist and columnist from Lahore, and has worked for ARY news channel. In February this year, when a glacier broke up causing devastation in Uttarakhand, Sabir Shakir claimed that it was not a natural disaster. He had no facts to attribute, but his aim was to denigrate the Indian army by peddling falsehood. There is another Pakistani journalist Faisal Tarar, who posted the fake news on his YouTube channel about Sri Lankan navy attacking India, but the real story was about some dispute relating to Indian fishermen.
The action taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to block 20 Pakistani YouTube channels and two websites is a welcome step. Pakistan’s conspiracy for spreading violence and hatred in India needs to be exposed. There are sections in society, who are gullible. Since they are not knowledgeable, they can start believing falsehoods that are being peddled. This cross-border propaganda war needs to be stopped. There are still many Pakistani channels that are spreading anti-India disinformation, and the ministry must order surveillance of these channels too.
आधार को वोटर आईडी से जोड़ने से फर्ज़ी मतदान खत्म होगा
विपक्षी सदस्यों के भारी विरोध के बीच सोमवार को लोकसभा ने एक प्रमुख चुनाव सुधार विधेयक को पारित कर दिया। इस विधेयक में आधार कार्ड को मतदाता पहचान पत्र से स्वैच्छिक रूप से जोड़ने का प्रावधान है। विपक्षी दलों ने मांग की कि इस विधेयक को विचार के लिए संयुक्त प्रवर समिति के पास भेजा जाए।
कानून मंत्री किरेन रिजिजू ने कहा, यह विधेयक एक महत्वपूर्ण चुनाव सुधार है और संसद की एक स्थायी समिति पहले ही मतदाता पहचान पत्र को आधार से जोड़ने के सुझाव का समर्थन कर चुकी है। उन्होंने कहा, इससे यह सुनिश्चित होगा कि कोई व्यक्ति एक से अधिक चुनाव क्षेत्र में अपने वोट का पंजीकरण न करा सके। रिजिजू ने कहा कि इस विधेयक के ज़रिए चुनाव डेटा को आधार कार्ड से जोड़ने के लिए एक कानूनी ढांचा तैयार किया जाएगा।
विधेयक का विरोध करते हुए कांग्रेस नेता अधीर रंजन चौधरी ने कहा, ‘आप एक प्रमुख विधायी दस्तावेज को ऐसे नहीं थोप सकते जिसमें कई खामियां हैं।’ एक अन्य कांग्रेस नेता मनीष तिवारी ने कहा, आधार अधिनियम ‘बहुत स्पष्ट है। यह सब्सिडी, लाभ, सेवाओं, अनुदान, मजदूरी और अन्य के लक्षित वितरण के उपयोग के लिए अनुमति देता है, जबकि मतदान एक कानूनी अधिकार है।’ AIMIM नेता असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने कहा कि इस कानून का इस्तेमाल ‘मतदाताओं की पहचान और उन्हें मताधिकार से वंचित करने’ के लिए किया जा सकता है। CPI(M) ने कहा, इस नए विधेयक में गुप्त मतदान का सिद्धांत कमज़ोर हो सकता है और वोटर के मत की गोपनीयता के का उल्लंघन हो सकता है, साथ ही नागरिकों की निजता (privacy) के अधिकार के उल्लंघन होने का भी खतरा है।
किरेन रिजिजू ने कहा, इस तरह के जुड़ाव से प्राइवेसी के अधिकार के उल्लंघन को लेकर विपक्ष द्वारा व्यक्त की जा रही आशंकाएं ‘निराधार’ हैं। उन्होंने कहा, आधार को मतदाता पहचान पत्र से जोड़ना स्वैच्छिक है और यह अनिवार्य नहीं है। रिजिजू ने कहा कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट के 26 सितंबर 2018 के फैसले की गलत व्याख्या की जा रही है जिसमें आधार अधिनियम की संवैधानिक वैधता को बरकरार रखते हुए निजता के अधिकार को सुनिश्चित किया गया है। अगस्त 2019 में चुनाव आयोग ने प्रस्ताव दिया था कि सरकार को चुनाव कानूनों में संशोधन करके चुनाव पंजीकरण अधिकारियों को यह शक्ति देनी चाहिए कि वे ‘पहचान स्थापित करने के उद्देश्य से’ मौजूदा एवं नए मतदाताओं का आधार नंबर प्राप्त कर सकें।
रिजिजू ने कहा, विधेयक में पहले से ही एक प्रावधान है जो कहता है कि आधार के अभाव में मतदाता के रूप में नामांकन के लिए कोई भी आवेदन तब तक खारिज नहीं किया जा सकता जब तक मतदाता चुनाव आयोग द्वारा निर्धारित वैकल्पिक दस्तावेज प्रदान करता है। उन्होंने कहा कि आधार को मतदाता पहचान पत्र से जोड़ने के इस कदम से फर्जी मतदान समाप्त हो जाएगा और मतदाता सूची विश्वसनीय हो जाएगी।
यह समझना ज़रूरी है कि इस बिल को जल्दबाजी में नहीं लाया गया है। वोटर आईडी को आधार से जोड़ने का यह मुद्दा लंबे समय से विभिन्न मंचों पर उठता रहा है। विपक्षी दलों, खासकर कांग्रेस ने पूर्व में मतदाता पहचान पत्र को आधार से जोड़ने की मांग की थी। ऐसा लगता है कि अब उनका रुख बदल गया है।
हक़ीक़त तो ये है कि अप्रैल 2018 में मध्य प्रदेश कांग्रेस ने तत्कालीन मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त को पत्र लिखकर विधानसभा चुनाव से पहले फर्जी वोटिंग की जांच के लिए मतदाता सूची को आधार से जोड़ने की मांग की थी। राज्य कांग्रेस ने तब आरोप लगाया था कि लगभग हर निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में 30 से 40 हजार फर्जी मतदाता हैं और पूरे राज्य में तकरीबन 45 लाख ऐसे मतदाताओं के नाम सूची में है जिन्हें सत्यापित करने और जिनकी जांच करने की ज़रूरत है। इसी तरह 2019 में महाराष्ट्र में राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी (NCP) ने फर्जी वोटिंग की जांच के लिए वोटर ID को आधार से जोड़ने का सुझाव दिया था और तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री और बीजेपी नेता देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने उस समय NCP के इस सुझाव से सहमति जताई थी।
हमारे चुनाव डाटा बेस के प्रबंधन में सबसे बड़ी समस्या है, एक ही व्यक्ति द्वारा कई चुनाव क्षेत्रों में वोटर के रूप में अपनी नाम पंजीकृत कराना। इसका एक कारण यह भी हो सकता है कि बहुत से मतदाता बार-बार अपना निवास स्थान बदलते हैं और अपने पिछले पंजीयन को हटाए बिना नई जगह पर अपना नाम पंजीकृत करवा लेते हैं। आधार से लिंक होने से कई जगहों पर एक ही मतदाता के सूची में नाम होने की समस्या को आसानी से हल किया जा सकता है। अगर एक बार वोटर आईडी को आधार से लिंक किया गया, तो जब भी वह कोई नए पंजीकरण के लिए वेदन करेगा तो इलेक्टोरल रोल डेटा सिस्टम मतदाता के पिछले पंजीयन के बारे में मतदाता पंजीकरण अधिकारियों को फौरन सतर्क कर देगा। इससे पूरे मतदाता सूची डेटा बेस को सुधारने में मदद मिलेगी और फर्जी मतदान को हमेशा, हमेशा के लिए खत्म किया जा सकेगा।
विपक्ष द्वारा निजता के अधिकारों के हनन को लेकर जो आशंकाएं जताई जा रही हैं, वे निराधार लगती हैं। मतदान केंद्र के अंदर एक मतदाता द्वारा डाला गया वोट हमेशा गुप्त रहता है। केंद्र और राज्य सरकारें आधार के ज़रिए पहले ही पूरे भारत में लाखों फर्जी राशन कार्डों को रद्द कराने में कामयाब हो चुकी हैं, और विभिन्न मदों में सब्सिडी हासिल करने वाले फर्जी लोगों के नाम हटाने के लिए भी आधार का इस्तेमाल किया गया है। आधार को वोटर आईडी से जोड़ने से किसी की निजता का हनन नहीं होगा। वहीं, दूसरी ओर फर्जी वोटिंग की समस्या पर एक झटके में अंकुश लग जाएगा।
Linking of Aadhar with voter ID will eliminate bogus voting
The Lok Sabha, on Monday, passed, amid strong protests from opposition, a major electoral reforms bill which provides for voluntary linkage of Aadhar card to voter’s identity card. Opposition parties demanded that the bill be referred to the joint select committee for scrutiny.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said, the bill is an important electoral reform and a parliamentary standing committee has already backed the linkage of voter’s I-card with Aadhar. He said, this would curb the menace of multiple enrolment of the same person as voter in different places. The bill seeks to create a legal framework for linking electoral data with Aadhar card, he said.
Opposing the bill, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “you cannot bulldoze a major legislative document which has several infirmities”. Another Congress leader Manish Tewari said, the Aadhar Act “is very explicit. It is intended for targeted delivery of financial and other subsidies and benefits, whereas voting is a legal right.” AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said, this law can be used to “profile and disenfranchise voters”. The CPI(M) said, this new bill has the danger of violating both secrecy of the vote by undermining the principle of secret ballot and also violating the fundamental right to privacy of the voters.
Kiren Rijiju said, the apprehensions being voiced by the opposition over infringement of privacy rights by such linkage are “baseless”. He said, the linking of Aadhaar with voter I-card is voluntary and not mandatory. The Supreme Court verdict of September 26, 2018 upholding the constitutional validity of Aadhaar Act, while ensuring privacy rights, is being misinterpreted, he said. In August, 2019, the Election Commission had proposed that the government should amend election laws to empower electoral registration officers to seek Aadhaar numbers of existing and new voters, “for the purpose of establishing identity”.
Rijiju said, the bill already has a provision which says that no application for enrolling as voter may be rejected in the absence of Aadhaar as long as the voter provides alternate documents as may be prescribed by the Election Commission. This move to link Aadhar with voter I-card will end bogus voting and make the electoral rolls credible, he said.
One should realize that this bill has not been brought in a hurry. This issue of linkage has been under discussion at various forums for a long time. The opposition parties, particularly the Congress, had demanded linkage of voter ID with Aadhaar in the past. Now they seem to have reversed their stand.
Let me illustrate one fact. In April,2018, the Madhya Pradesh Congress had written to the then Chief Election Commissioner demanding linkage of electoral rolls with Aadhaar to check fake voting before the assembly polls. The state Congress had then alleged that there were 30-40,000 fake voters in almost every constituency and that the details of nearly 45 lakh voters needed to be verified and probed. Similarly, in 2019, the Maharashtra NCP had suggested linking voter ID with Aadhaar to check bogus voting and the then chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had agreed with the NCP’s suggestion at that time.
Multiple enrolment of the same voter at different places is one of the major problems in electoral data base management. One of the reasons could be that voters frequently change their residences and get enrolled in their new places without getting their previous enrolment deleted. With the linkage to Aadhaar, this problem of multiple enrolment can be solved easily. Once voter ID is linked with Aadhaar, the electoral roll data system will immediately alert the electoral registration authorities about previous enrolment of the voter, whenever one applies for new registration. This will help in cleaning up the entire electoral roll data base and bogus voting can be eliminated, once and for all.
The fears that are being voiced about violation of privacy rights by the opposition seem to be unfounded. A vote cast by an elector inside the polling booth always remains a secret. Already, the Centre and states have used the Aadhaar as the base for eliminating millions of bogus ration cards across India, and names of people who were skimming off subsidies under different heads have been eliminated. Linking of Aadhaar will not violate the privacy of an individual. On the other hand, it will curb the menace of bogus voting in one go.
नारी सम्मान के बारे में नेता अपनी सोच बदलें
आज मैं बड़े दुख और गुस्से के साथ एक ऐसे विधायक के बारे में लिख रहा हूं जिसने विधानसभा में खड़े होकर कहा कि अगर महिलाएं बलात्कार को अवायड नहीं कर सकती तो उसका लुत्फ उठाना चाहिए। यह असंवेदनशील और शर्मनाक टिप्पणी कांग्रेस के विधायक के. आर. रमेश कुमार ने की। के आर रमेश कुमार नए नेता नहीं हैं, वे पहली बार विधायक नहीं बने हैं। वे छठी बार कर्नाटक विधानसभा के सदस्य चुने गए हैं। इससे पहले वे विधानसभा अध्यक्ष और राज्यमंत्री भी रह चुके हैं। रमेश कुमार ने अपना पहला चुनाव 43 साल पहले 1978 में जीता था। वे दो बार विधानसभा के अध्यक्ष चुने गए और बाद में स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण मंत्री भी रह चुके हैं। जरा सोचिए जो शख्स परिवार कल्याण मंत्री रहा हो, दो-दो बार विधानसभा अध्यक्ष रहा हो वो महिलाओं के बारे में ऐसी सोच रखे, यह बेहद शर्मनाक है।
दरअसल, के. आर. रमेश कुमार सदन में विधानसभा अध्यक्ष विश्वेश्वर हेगड़े कागेरी की स्थिति पर अपनी बात रखी थी। सदन में कई सदस्य किसानों के मुद्दों पर बोलने के लिए विधानसभा अध्यक्ष से समय मांग रहे थे और इस सबके बीच अध्यक्ष खुद को असहाय महसूस रह रहे थे। तभी के.आर. रमेश कुमार ने विधानसभा अध्यक्ष की तुलना उस महिला से कर दी जिसे बलात्कार का सामना करना पड़ा हो। के.आर. रमेश कुमार ने कहा-‘एक कहावत है कि जब बलात्कार को रोक नहीं सकते तो प्रतिरोध मत करो, लेट जाओ और इसके मजे लो। ठीक इसी स्थिति में आप हैं।’
हैरानी की बात यह रही कि इस शर्मनाक टिप्पणी पर स्पीकर ठहाके लगाते नजर आए। इसके बाद सदन में मौजूद महिला विधायकों ने विरोध किया और विधायक से अपने बयान वापस लेने की मांग की। रमेश ने बाद में कई ‘किंतु-परंतु’ के साथ माफी मांगी। उन्होंने कहा-‘मेरा इरादा रेप जैसे जघन्य अपराध को मामूली या हल्का बनाना नहीं था, बल्कि यह बिना सोचे समझे, तुरंत में की गई टिप्पणी थी। मैं अब से अपने शब्दों को सावधानी से चुनूंगा।’
रमेश कुमार ने जो कहा वो कोई अबोधिता से भरा हुआ मजाक नहीं था। बलात्कार कोई कोई हंसी-मजाक का विषय नहीं है। इस तरह की टिप्पणी करके भारतीय नारी की गरिमा का अपमान किया गया है। शुक्रवार की रात अपने शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने दिखाया कि कैसे विधायक की इस आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणी पर विधानसभा अध्यक्ष ठहाके लगा रहे थे। यह दर्शाता है कि मौजूदा समय में महिलाओं के बारे में हमारे नेताओं की मानसिकता कैसी है। विधानसभा अध्यक्ष को अगर नारी की गरिमा का ख्याल होता तो ऐसे विधायक को मार्शल बुलाकर धक्के मारकर सदन से बाहर निकाल देना चाहए था। लेकिन इसके बजाय वे भी ठहाके मार कर हंसते रहे। स्पीकर ने विधायक को फटकार तक नहीं लगाई।
जैसे ही विधायक की महिलाओं के प्रति इस टिप्पणी का वीडियो वायरल हुआ, केंद्रीय महिला और बाल-विकास मंत्री स्मृति ईरान ने इस मुद्दे को लोकसभा में उठाया। लेकिन लखीमपुर खीरी मामले को लेकर कांग्रेस और अन्य विरोधी दलों के सांसदों की नारेबाजी के बीच स्मृति ईरानी की बात शोर में दब गई। सदन के बाहर स्मृति ईरानी और समाजवादी पार्टी की सांसद जया बच्चन ने कांग्रेस पार्टी से मांग की कि वह अपने विधायक के खिलाफ एक्शन ले। शिव सेना की सांसद प्रियंका चतुर्वेदी, अपना दल की नेता और केंद्रीय मंत्री अनुप्रिया पटेल ने भी रमेश कुमार के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की मांग की।
पार्टी लाइन से हटकर नेताओं ने विधायक की इस घटिया टिप्पणी की निंदा की और फिर शाम में कांग्रेस की नेता प्रियंका गांधी ने ट्वीट किया- ‘मैं के.आर. रमेश कुमार के बयान की पूरी तरह से निंदा करती हूं। यह समझ से परे है कि कोई कैसे इस तरह के शब्दों का इस्तेमाल कर सकता है। इन बातों का बिल्कुल भी समर्थन नहीं किया जा सकता है। बलात्कार एक जघन्य अपराध है। इससे ज्यादा कुछ कहने की जरुरत नहीं है।’ राज्यसभा में विपक्ष के नेता मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे ने भी रमेश कुमार की टिप्पणी की निंदा की।
हमारे देश में महिलाओं को ‘देवी’ का दर्जा दिया गया है। हम कन्या पूजन करते हैं। हमारे शास्त्रों में कहा गया है ‘यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते… रमन्ते तत्र देवता:’ यानि जहां नारी का सम्मान होता है, देवता वहीं निवास करते हैं। इस देश में अगर कोई नेता बेशर्मी से रेप को एन्जॉय करने की बात कहे तो कैसे सहन किया जा सकता है?
यह सिर्फ महिलाओं का नहीं बल्कि पूरे देश, संस्कृति, परंपराओं और हमारे आदर्शों का अपमान है। यह हर उस बेटे का अपमान है जो अपनी मां को देवी मानता है। यह हर भाई का अपमान है जो अपनी बहन को रक्षा का वचन देता है। यह हर उस पिता का अपमान है जो अपनी बेटी को हमेशा खुशहाल देखना चाहता है।
इस तरह के घटिया और शर्मनाक बयान देने वालों को कतई माफ नहीं किया जा सकता। जिस तरह से प्रियंका गांधी महिलाओं के अधिकारों की बात कर रही हैं उससे मुझे लगा था कि शायद रमेश कुमार को उनकी गलती की सजा मिलेगी और कांग्रेस उनके खिलाफ एक्शन लेगी, लेकिन ऐसा नहीं हुआ। मुझे उम्मीद थी कि रमेश कुमार के बयान पर ठहाका लगाने वाले विधानसभा अध्यक्ष विश्वेश्वर हेगड़े के खिलाफ भी बीजेपी कदम उठाएगी, लेकिन ये भी नहीं हुआ।
असल में इस तरह के नेताओं की हिम्मत इसीलिए बढ़ती है क्योंकि उन्हें गलती की सजा नहीं मिलती। दूसरों की तरफ उंगली उठाकर अपनी गलती छुपाने की कोशिश होती है। जब कांग्रेस वालों से एक्शन की बात पूछी जाएगी तो वे उन्नाव रेप केस और अलीगढ़ केस की याद दिलाएंगे, हाथरस की बात करेंगे। जब बीजेपी वालों से पूछा जाएगा तो वो तंदूर कांड की याद दिला देंगे और कुछ पुरानी सीडीज की बात करेंगे। जब समाजवादी पार्टी के नेता कांग्रेस से विधायक पर एक्शन की मांग करेंगे तब वो रेप के केस में जेल में बंद गायत्री प्रजापति की याद दिलाएंगे, गेस्टहाउस कांड की याद दिलाएंगे। जब इससे भी बात नहीं बनेगी तो मुलायम सिंह के बयान को दोहरा देंगे कि ‘लड़कों से गलती हो जाती है।’
असल में ये गंदगी इसलिए साफ नहीं होती क्योंकि हम अपना दामन साफ करने के बजाय दूसरे के दामन के दाग दिखाने लगते हैं। और जब तक ये होता रहेगा तब तक इस तरह की गंदी मानसिकता के लोग घिनौनी बातें कहते रहेंगे। असल में सवाल मानसिकता का है। महिलाओं के बारे में मानसिकता कैसी है इसका एक और उदाहरण मिला। समाजवादी पार्टी के वरिष्ठ सासंद शफीकुर्रहमान बर्क ने कहा कि शादी की उम्र बढ़ाने से लड़कियां बिगड़ जाएंगी, आवारा हो जाएंगी।
उन्होंने यह टिप्पणी इसलिए की क्योंकि मोदी सरकार लड़कियों की शादी की उम्र 18 साल से बढ़ाकर 21 साल करने जा रही है। बाल विवाह निषेध संशोधन विधेयक संसद में लाया जा रहा है। कैबिनेट ने पहले ही ड्राफ्ट बिल को मंजूरी दे दी है। कई विपक्षी दलों ने इसका विरोध करना शुरू कर दिया है। खासतौर से समाजवादी पार्टी के मुस्लिम नेता इस बिल के खिलाफ हैं। इस बिल के जरिए हिंदुओं, मुसलमानों, ईसाइयों और पारसियों से जुड़े विवाह कानूनों के समान प्रावधानों में संशोधन किया जाएगा।
शफीकुर्रहमान बर्क 91 साल के हैं। वे 1974 में पहली बार विधायक चुने गए थे। तब से लगातार चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं और मौजूदा समय में लोकसभा के सदस्य हैं। बर्क ये मांग करते रहे हैं कि मुसलमानों पर कम बच्चे पैदा करने की पाबंदी नहीं होनी चाहिए। अब कह रहे हैं कि लड़कियों की शादी की उम्र 18 साल से 21 साल करने पर लड़कियां आवारा हो जाएंगी। समाजवादी पार्टी के एक और सांसद एस.टी हसन का कहना है कि लड़कियों की शादी की उम्र बढ़ाई गई तो बेगैरती और बेहयाई बढ़ेगी। महाराष्ट्र में समाजवादी पार्टी के अध्यक्ष अबु आजमी तो एस. टी. हसन से भी दो क़दम आगे ही निकल गए। उन्होंने कहा-‘जैसे किसी की मौत के बाद लाश ज्यादा वक्त तक घर में नहीं रखी जाती उसी तरह जवान होने के बाद लड़की को ज्यादा दिन तक घर में नहीं रखना चाहिए।’ अबु आज़मी का कहना है कि अगर लड़कियों की शादी की क़ानूनी उम्र बढ़ाई गई तो तमाम तरह की मुश्किलें आएंगी, मुक़दमों की बाढ़ आ जाएगी।
किस तरह के लोग हैं और कैसी सोच रखते हैं, इनकी मानसिकता समझ में नहीं आती। ऐसे लोगों की बातें सुनकर यकीन ही नहीं होता कि इस तरह की सोच रखने वाले भी समाज का हिस्सा हैं। समाज के नेता हैं। मैं तो कहता हूं -धिक्कार है उस विधायक पर जिसने कहा कि अगर रेप अवॉयड नहीं हो सकता तो इन्जॉय करो। धिक्कार है उस स्पीकर पर जो ऐसे विधायक को धक्के मार कर बाहर निकालने के बजाए ठहाके मार कर हंसते रहे। धिक्कार है उन सांसदों पर जिन्होंने कहा कि लड़कियों की शादी की उम्र सीमा बढ़ा दी गई तो वो आवारा हो जाएंगी। ये सारी बातें गिरी हुई सोच का नतीजा हैं। यह ऐसी मानसिकता को दर्शाती हैं जिस पर करारा प्रहार होना चाहिए।
ऐसी बातों की सिर्फ निंदा करना काफ़ी नहीं है। ये नेता माफ़ी भी मांग लें तो काफी नहीं है। कांग्रेस पार्टी विधायक रमेश कुमार के खिलाफ एक्शन ले। बीजेपी विधानसभा अध्यक्ष के खिलाफ एक्शन ले और समाजवादी अपने सांसद शफीकुर्रहमान और एस.टी. हसन के खिलाफ एक्शन ले। आज इस बात पर जाने की जरूरत नहीं है कि पहले किस पार्टी के नेताओं ने महिलाओं का कैसे अपमान किया था। किसने कब घटिया भाषा का इस्तेमाल किया था। पुरानी बातों को छोड़ आज जो हुआ उस पर कार्रवाई होनी चाहिए। अगर आज यह शुरुआत हुई तो ऐसी बदजुबानी करने वालों पर लगाम लगाने की शुरुआत होगी। हालांकि मैं यह नहीं कह रहा कि सरकार जो फैसला करे, उसका विरोध न हो, उस पर चर्चा न हो। लोकतन्त्र में विरोधी भी होना चाहिए, बहस भी होनी चाहिए। चर्चा तो लड़कियों की शादी की उम्र बढ़ाने के फैसले की भी होनी चाहिए, लेकिन तर्कों के साथ होनी चाहिए।
Why politicians must change their mindset about women
Today I write with both sadness and anger about a senior Karnataka MLA who made an insensitive and shameful remark about women in the assembly. The Congress MLA in question, K. R. Ramesh Kumar, is a former assembly speaker and state minister and has been elected from his constituency six times. He won his first assembly election 43 years ago in 1978. He was elected speaker of assembly twice and later became the state health and family welfare minister. It was shocking to see an experienced legislator making a callous, misogynistic remark.
He was actually emphathizing with the Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri over his plight because many members were seeking time to speak on farmers’ issues and the Speaker found himself helpless. The MLA compared the Speaker’s position with that of a woman who faced rape, and said, ‘there is a saying that when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. That is exactly the position you are in’.
To the surprise of all, the Speaker guffawed over this misogynistic remark. Women MLAs sitting inside the House rose in protest and demanded that the MLA should withdraw his remark. Ramesh Kumar later tendered his apology with several ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’. He said, ‘my intention was not to trivialize or make light of a heinous crime like rape, but this was an off-the-cuff remark. I will choose my words carefully from now on.’
What Ramesh Kumar said was not an innocent joke. Rape is not a matter of laughter or for making jokes. By making this remark, he insulted the dignity of Indian womanhood. In my show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Friday night, we showed how the MLA made this obnoxious remark and the Speaker was laughing over it. It depicts the mindset of many of our present day politicians. The Speaker, if he had a modicum of respect from womanhood, should have removed the MLA from the House by calling in the marshals. The Speaker did not speak a single word to reprimand the legislator.
As the video of the MLA’s remark became viral, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani raised the matter in Lok Sabha, but her words were drowned in the protest by Opposition members over the Lakhimpur Kheri issue. Outside, Smriti Irani and Samajwadi Party member Jaya Bachchan demanded that Congress party should take action against its MLA. Shiv Sena member Priyanka Chaturvedi, Apna Dal leader and Union Minister Anupriya Patel demanded action against Ramesh Kumar.
Leaders, cutting across party lines, denounced the MLA’s misogynistic remark, and in the evening, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi tweeted: “I wholeheartedly condemn the statement made by Sri K. R. Ramesh Kumar. It is inexplicable how anyone can ever utter such words, they are indefensible. Rape is a heinous crime. Full stop.” Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge also condemned Ramesh Kumar’s remark.
Women, in India’s Hindu religious ethos, are worshipped as ‘devi’. Devotees perform ‘kanya poojan’ (worshipping girls) at the end of Navratri. Hindu religious scriptures mention, ‘gods reside in places where women are worshipped’.(Yatra Naaryastu Pujyante, Tatra Ramante Devatah). How can people of India tolerate a man who asks women to lie down and enjoy, when facing a rapist?
It is not only an insult of women, but also an insult of our ancient culture, its hoary traditions and lofty ideals. It is an insult to every son who worships his mother, an insult to every brother who promises to protect his sister by getting a ‘raakhi’ tied on his wrist, an insult to every father who wants his daughter to prosper in life.
Those who make such misogynistic remark must not be forgiven. Judging by Priyanka Gandhi’s reaction, I had expected the Congress party to take action against the MLA, but the party chose not to. I had expected the BJP to take action against its leader Vishweshwar Hegde, the Speaker, who laughed over this misogynistic remark, but the party chose not to.
Actually these leaders get courage and repeat their actions, when they are not punished for their acts. Parties try to point fingers at others and try to hide their own mistakes. If you ask the Congress, their leaders will point at what happened in Unnao and Hathras, if you ask the BJP, they will remind you of the infamous Tandoor case and dig out old CDs, if Samajwadi party leaders ask the Congress, the latter would mention the guesthouse incident and Gayatri Prajapati case, and also recall Mulayam Singh’s insensitive remark about rape saying ‘boys do commit mistakes’.
The moot point is, such dirty mindsets continue to remain because people try to hide their own stains and point out at others’ stains. The latest example that came forth on Friday was when a senior Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq remarked that minimum age limit of marriage for girls should not be raised from 18 years to 21, because ‘girls would go astray’.
He made this comment because Modi government plans to raise the minimum age limit of marriage for girls from 18 years to 21 years and Prohibition of Child Marriage amendment bill is being brought in Parliament. The cabinet has already approved the draft bill, which provides for making the minimum age limit of marriage for both boys and girls at 21 years, instead of the present provision of 21 for boys and 18 years for girls respectively. Several opposition parties have already started opposing it. Muslim leaders, mainly from Samajwadi Party, are against this bill. The bill seeks to amend similar provisions in marriage laws relating to Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Parsis.
Shafiqur Rehman Barq is 91 years old. He first became an MLA in 1974. Barq has been demanding that Muslims should not be subjected to family planning. Another Samajwadi Party MP S. T. Hassan has said, if the minimum age limit of marriage for girls is raised, it will encourage “shamelessness” among girls. The chief of Samajwadi Party in Maharashtra, Abu Azmi has demanded this limit should remain at 18 years for girls. He had a curious logic. He said, ‘if anybody dies in your house, you must not keep the body for long, similarly, if a girl attains puberty, she should not be kept in her parents’ home for long’. Azmi says the number of court cases would rise if the minimum age limit for girls is raised.
I simply fail to understand the mindset of such politicians. They are supposed to be leaders in our society. In anger, I can only say: Shame on the legislator who said, women should lie down and enjoy if raped. Shame on the Speaker who laughed when the legislator made this insensitive remark. Shame on those MPs who say that girls would go astray if their minimum age limit for marriage is raised. These remarks are reflections of a diseased mindset. All those who believe in progress must unitedly strike at these mindsets.
Mere condemnation is not enough. Only apologies are not enough. Let Congress take action against Ramesh Kumar, let the BJP take action against the Speaker, and let the Samajwadi Party take action against MPs like Barq and S. T. Hassan. Today, there is no need to go into the past about who did what and who said what. If strong action is taken by these parties, it will be the harbinger of a new trend of reining in such misogynistic mindsets. I am not against the right to oppose a bill brought by the government. There must be scope for dissent in democracy. Let there be debates, based on logic. I would rather want debates on why minimum age limit of marriage for girls should not be raised beyond 21 years.
भगवान के लिए सेना को सियासत से दूर रखें
16 दिसंबर हमारे बहादुर और जांबाज शहीदों के शौर्य को याद करने का दिन है। इसे विजय दिवस के रूप मनाया जाता है। 50 साल पहले इसी दिन पाकिस्तान के दो टुकड़े कर दिए गए थे। भारतीय सेना और मुक्ति वाहिनी के प्रयासों से बांग्लादेश बना था। पाकिस्तान के 93 हजार सैनिकों ने हिन्दुस्तानी फौज के सामने घुटने टेक दिए थे। वो गजब का पल था और मैं उन तस्वीरों का गवाह हूं। सेना के पराक्रम की वो तस्वीर 50 साल बाद भी मेरी आंखों में ताजा है। लेकिन दुख की बात यह है कि विजय दिवस के दिन भी सेना को सियासत का हिस्सा बना दिया गया। वोट के लिए शहीदों को मोहरा बना दिया गया।
दरअसल, कांग्रेस ने देहरादून में विजय सम्मान दिवस रैली का आयोजन किया। सोच समझ कर विजय दिवस के दिन देहरादून में राहुल गांधी की रैली रखी गई क्योंकि उत्तराखंड में अगले साल विधानसभा के चुनाव होनेवाले हैं। इस राज्य में हर तीसरे परिवार का कोई न कोई सदस्य फौज में है इसलिए विजय दिवस के दिन ही कांग्रेस ने उत्तराखंड में अपने चुनावी कैंपेन को लॉन्च कर दिया। इस मौके पर सीडीएस जनरल बिपिन रावत की शहादत को भुनाने की कोशिश की गई। देहरादून के पूरे परेड ग्राउंड में जनरल बिपिन रावत के विशालकाय कटआउट लगाए गए थे। एक तरफ राहुल गांधी, दूसरी तरफ इंदिरा गांधी और बीच में शहीद सीडीएस जनरल बिपिन रावत के कटआउट थे। जनरल रावत उत्तराखंड के ही मूल निवासी थे और हाल में तमिलनाडु के कुन्नूर के पास हेलिकॉप्टर हादसे में अन्य अफसरों और सैनिकों के साथ देश सेवा के दौरान शहीद हो गए। पूरा देश उनके निधन पर अभी-भी शोक में डूबा हुआ है।
स्पष्ट तौर पर कांग्रेस पार्टी अपनी राजनीतिक बिसात पर सेना को मेहरे की तरह इस्तेमाल करने की कोशिश कर रही थी। राहुल गांधी ने सेना को लेकर ऐसी बचकानी बातें की जिसे सुनकर दुख और हैरानी हुई। राहुल ने कहा-‘देश राफेल आने से मजबूत नहीं होता, फाइटर जेट, सबमरीन, एयरक्राफ्ट कैरियर, आधुनिक तोपें और बंदूकें मिलने से देश मजबूत नहीं होता।’
एक सीनियर नेता की ऐसी बातें सुनकर फौज के अधिकारी भी अचरज में हैं कि इस बात का क्या मतलब। लेकिन राहुल गांधी ने पूरे आत्मविश्वास के साथ ये बातें कहीं। इससे भी ज्यादा हैरानी यह सुनकर हुई जब राहुल गांधी ने अपने परिवार के लोगों के निधन को ‘शहादत’ औऱ सैनिकों की शहादत को ‘मृत्यु’ बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि जनरल बिपिन रावत की मौत हुई और अपने परिवार का जिक्र करते हुए कहा कि उनके पिता राजीव गांधी और उनकी दादी इंदिरा गांधी शहीद हुए थे। राहुल ने अपने भाषण में कहा- ‘देश के सम्मान के लिए लड़ते हुए उत्तराखंड के हजारों परिवारों ने अपने परिजनों को खो दिया, मेरे परिवार ने भी बलिदान दिया है। यही उत्तराखंड के साथ मेरा रिश्ता है।’
राहुल की इन बातों पर बीजेपी ने आपत्ति जताई। केंद्रीय संसदीय कार्य मंत्री प्रल्हाद जोशी ने कहा कि कांग्रेस की अगुवाई वाली यूपीए सरकार के दौरान जनरल बिपिन रावत को आर्मी चीफ बनने से रोकने की तमाम कोशिशें हुई। उन्होंने कहा ‘राहुल एक अपरिपक्व और पार्ट टाइम राजनीतिज्ञ हैं, कब क्या कहते हैं उन्हें खुद मालूम नहीं होता। देश इसके लिए उन्हें कभी माफ नहीं करेगा’।
बीजेपी नेताओं ने यह भी बताया कि कांग्रेस के पूर्व सांसद संदीप दीक्षित ने जनरल बिपिन रावत की तुलना गली के गुंडे से की थी। कन्हैया कुमार ने इल्जाम लगाया था कि सेना के जवान कश्मीर में महिलाओं से रेप करते हैं। इन बयानों से तो कांग्रेस भी इंकार नहीं कर सकती। इसलिए जिस समय राहुल गांधी जनरल बिपिन रावत के पोस्टर और कटआउट लगाकर रैली कर रहे थे उस समय बीजेपी ने पूरे देहरादून में कांग्रेस के नेताओं के आर्मी और जनरल रावत के बारे में दिए गए बयानों के पोस्टर लगा दिए।
उत्तराखंड के मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी ने भी कहा कि जिन लोगों ने सेना को फाइटर जेट के लिए, हथियारों के लिए, रिटायर्ड सैनिकों को पेंशन के लिए तरसाया वो लोग अब चुनाव के वक्त सेना को सैल्यूट कर रहे हैं, उत्तराखंड के लोग बहुत समझदार हैं, सबकी हकीकत जानते हैं।
बीजेपी भी उत्तराखंड में पूर्व सैनिकों, सैन्य अधिकारियों और जवानों के परिवारों का वोट पाने के लिए उन्हें रिझाने में पीछे नहीं है, लेकिन तरीका अलग है। राज्य की बीजेपी सरकार शहीदों के सम्मान में सैनिक धाम बनाएगी। इस स्मारक में उत्तराखंड के रहने वाले उन सभी सैनिकों का नाम होगा जो देश की खातिर शहीद हो गए। इस सैनिक धाम का शिलान्यास रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने किया है। उन्होंने ऐलान किया कि सैनिक धाम के प्रवेश द्वार का नाम जनरल बिपिन रावत के नाम पर रखा जाएगा। हालांकि पुष्कर धामी का कहना है कि यह वोट की सियासत नहीं है बल्कि शहीदों का सम्मान है।
सैनिक किसी पार्टी का नहीं होता। सैनिक पूरे देश का होता है। उसकी शहादत को सियासत का मोहरा बनाना ठीक नहीं है। जनरल रावत की शहादत को अभी सिर्फ आठ दिन हुए हैं। अभी तेरहवीं भी नहीं हुई लेकिन उससे पहले ही राजनीतिक रैली में उनके कटआउट और पोस्टर लगाकर वोट मांगना…इसे कैसे जस्टीफाई किया जा सकता है। राहुल गांधी तो यह भी नहीं मानते कि जनरल बिपिन रावत शहीद हुए हैं। हजारों लोगों के सामने, शहीद सैनिकों के परिवारों की मौजूदगी में शहादत को सामान्य मौत बताना हिम्मत का काम है।
राहुल की टोन देखकर दूसरे कांग्रेसी भी उत्साहित हो जाते हैं। राहुल ने जनरल बिपिन रावत की शहादत को मौत बताया तो राजस्थान के एक कांग्रेसी विधायक ने इससे दो कदम आगे की बात कह दी। राजस्थान के दांता रामगढ़ से विधायक वीरेंद्र सिंह ने हेलिकॉप्टर हादसे को ‘चुनावी साजिश’ बताया। वीरेंद्र सिंह ने कहा, ‘हमारा फौजी राजनीतिक साजिश के फायदे के लिए शहीद होता है तो मन में टीस होती है’। कांग्रेस विधायक ने पुलवामा अटैक को 2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव से जोड़ा। गलवान घाटी में 20 जवानों की शहादत को बिहार विधानसभा के चुनाव से जोड़ा और फिर सीडीएस जनरल बिपिन रावत की शहादत को उत्तराखंड चुनाव से जोड़ने की कोशिश की।
पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री और बीजेपी एमपी राज्यवर्धन राठौर ने कहा कि उन्हें इस बयान से हैरानी नहीं हुई क्योंकि कांग्रेस के अलावा किसी दूसरी पार्टी के नेता से आप इस तरह के बयान की उम्मीद कर ही नहीं सकते। राज्यवर्धन राठौर सेना में अधिकारी रह चुके हैं।
हालांकि, राजस्थान के दो कांग्रेस मंत्रियों राजेंद्र गुढ़ा और पीएल मीणा ने साफ-साफ कहा कि इस तरह की बात नहीं बोलनी चाहिए। लेकिन पार्टी के नेताओं का भी वीरेन्द्र सिंह पर कोई असर नहीं हुआ। वे अपनी बात पर कायम हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि अभी तो वो अपनी पूरी बात नहीं कह पाए हैं। आगे जब भी मौका मिलेगा तब वे इसके बारे में विस्तार से बात करेंगे। वीरेन्द्र सिंह ने कहा कि आखिर इस तरह के हादसों का संयोग हर बार चुनाव से पहले ही क्यों बनता है?
भारत की सेना का पूरी दुनिया में सम्मान होता है क्योंकि हमारी बहादुर फौज प्रोफेशनल है और इसका राजनीति से कोई संबंध नहीं है। सेना का पराक्रम, उसकी रणनीति और बहादुर सैनिकों के बलिदान ने हमारी सैन्य शक्ति को अजेय बनाया है। लेकिन यह बात सेना के अधिकारी भी मानते हैं कि एक मजबूत फौज के लिए सरकार की इच्छाशक्ति भी महत्वपूर्ण होती है।
देश के प्रधानमंत्री की हिम्मत औऱ निर्णय लेने की क्षमता फौज की सफलता के लिए जरूरी होती है। 1971 में इंदिरा गांधी ने और 2019 में नरेन्द्र मोदी ने इसी इच्छाशक्ति और हिम्मत का परिचय दिया।
फौज के अफसर और रक्षा मामलों के जानकार मानते हैं कि नरेन्द्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में सेना का आधुनिकीकरण हुआ है। प्रधानमंत्री के तौर पर मोदी के प्रयास से देश की सेना को आधुनिक हथियार, नयी पीढ़ी के फाइटर जेट्स, पनडुब्बियों, टैंकों और उच्च तकनीक वाले उपकरणों से लैस किया जा रहा है। इससे सेना की क्षमता में कई गुना वृद्धि हुई है। इसलिए राहुल गांधी का यह कहना कि राफेल जैसे फाइटर जेट्स, टैंकों, पनडुब्बियों और अत्याधुनिक हथियारों से कुछ नहीं होता, बचकानी बात है। दुनिया में हर फौज को ताकतवर बनने और दुश्मन का मुकाबला करने के लिए बहादुरी के साथ-साथ बेहतर हथियारों की जरूरत होती है। यह बात तो इंदिरा गांधी भी कहती थीं और मानती थीं।
1962 में चीन के साथ युद्ध में हमारी फौज का हौसला बहुत मज़बूत था। उनमें हिम्मत की कोई कमी नहीं थी। लेकिन तब चीन के आधुनिक बंदूकों के मुकाबले हमारे सैनिकों के पास काफी पुरानी बंदूकें और हथियार थे। हमारी सेना बर्फीली सीमाओं पर लड़ने के लिए जरूरी बुनियादी सैन्य साजो-सामान नहीं थे। इस युद्ध के बाद सेना के तीनों अंगों को आधुनिक बनाने का काम शुरू हुआ। इसके लिए दुनिया भर से सैन्य साजो-सामान, फाइटर जेट्स, पनडुब्बी, टैंक खरीदने का काम शुरू हुआ। 1965 और 1971 में ऐसे ही हथियारों की मदद से हमारी सेना ने जीत हासिल की।
नोट करने की बात यह भी है पिछले 7 साल में इस दिशा में तेजी से काम हुआ है। नए फाइटर जेट्स, पनडुब्बी, असॉल्ट राइफल, टैंक समेत अन्य उच्च तकनीक वाले वाले सैन्य साजो-सामान खरीदने के लिए अरबों डॉलर खर्च किए गए हैं। देश की सैन्य शक्ति को और सक्षम बनाने के लिए नरेन्द्र मोदी ने सेना को आत्मनिर्भर बनाने की जो नीति बनाई है उसे भी फौज के अफसर एक बड़ा और पॉजिटिव कदम मानते हैं, हमारी सेना आज किसी भी मोर्चे पर दुश्मन का मुकाबला करने के लिए तैयार है। समय आ गया है कि हमारे राजनेता इस बात को समझें और सेना को राजनीति से दूर रखें।
For God’s sake, keep army away from politics
On Vijay Diwas, December 16, when the entire nation was celebrating 50 years of Indian army’s historic victory over Pakistan, the people of Uttarakhand were witness to a blatant case of misuse of army for politics. Congress party organized a Vijay Samman Diwas rally in Dehradun, which was addressed by Rahul Gandhi. The timing was significant because Uttarakhand will be going to assembly polls early next year.
On a day when millions of Indians were celebrating the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to the Indian army and were remembering their war martyrs, people in Uttarakhand were watching leaders trying to lure voters by using pictures of war heroes.
The holding of this rally was not surprising, except for the fact that the rally ground was adorned with huge cut outs of the late Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Bipin Rawat, who hailed from Uttarakhand. These cut outs of Gen Rawat stood along with cut outs of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It may be recalled, Gen Rawat along with other officers and jawans was martyred recently in a helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu and the entire nation is still mourning his passing away.
Clearly the Congress party was trying to use the army as a pawn on its political chessboard. It was sad to hear Rahul Gandhi making ridiculous comments about army preparedness. At one point during his speech, he remarked, “tanks, submarines and Rafale jet fighters alone do not make a country strong”.
Senior army officials were shocked to hear a senior leader making such a remark. Moreover, in his speech, while Rahul Gandhi described Indira Gandhi’s and Rahul Gandhi’s assassinations as ‘sacrifice’ (balidan) and martyrdom, he refrained from using the word ‘martyrdom’ for the death of Gen Rawat and other officers in the chopper crash. Look at the sentences that he used in his speech: “The way thousands of families in Uttarakhand lose their kin battling for the country’s honour, my family too has made sacrifices. This is my relationship with Uttarakhand.”
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi pointed out that it was during Congress-led UPA rule that all efforts were made to prevent Gen. Bipin Rawat from being the army chief. “Rahul is an immature, part time politician, he does not know what to say. The nation will never forgive this”, Joshi said.
BJP leaders also pointed out that it was Sandeep Dikshit, Congress leader and son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, who had once compared Gen Rawat to a roadside hooligan (gali ka goonda). They also pointed out how Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar had once alleged that army jawans had raped women in Kashmir. The Congress cannot deny these facts. At a time when Rahul Gandhi was honouring 1971 war heroes of Uttarakhand with shawl and mementos on stage, BJP workers went about town putting up posters of remarks made by Sandeep Dikshit and Kanhaiya Kumar.
Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami pointed out that it was the Congress-led UPA government which starved the defence forces by not providing jet fighters, tanks, rifles and other equipment and did not accept One Rank, One Pension demand of ex-servicemen. “Now that the elections are due, they are honouring these ex-servicemen”, he added.
BJP too is not far behind in trying to woo the votes of ex-servicemen and families of army officers and jawans in Uttarakhand. The state BJP government has decided to set up a Sainik Dham, a memorial for all war heroes hailing from the state. The foundation stone for Sainik Dham was laid by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who announced the main gate of Sainik Dham will be named after Gen. Bipin Rawat. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took care to point out that this memorial is being set up not in quest of votes but for honouring the martyrs who died in wars.
A soldier does not belong to a political party. A soldier belongs to the nation. To make war martyrs a pawn on the political chessboard is unacceptable. Gen Rawat’s martyrdom took place only eight days ago. Even the terahveen (13th day of death) ceremony has not taken place, but political parties have started using his name for seeking votes. Is this justified? Rahul Gandhi even does not consider Gen Rawat’s death as martyrdom. It is indeed courageous on his part to describe Gen Rawat’s martyrdom as death in the presence of thousands of families, who have sent their sons to fight wars.
A Congress MLA from Rajasthan Virendra Singh from Danta Ramgarh, has gone even a step further. He alleged that Gen Rawat was killed because of what he called “an election conspiracy”. Virendra Singh is on record of having said, “I feel sadness in my heart when a fauji (army man) becomes a martyr because of political conspiracy”. The Congress MLA even linked the Pulwama terror killings to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He even linked the martyrdom of 20 army jawans in the Galwan Valley battle with Chinese soldiers to the Bihar assembly elections. And then he tried to link Gen. Rawat’s martyrdom to the forthcoming Uttarakhand elections.
Former Union Minister and BJP MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, himself an ex-army officer, reacted to this by saying, “I am not surprised over such remarks from a Congress leader. You cannot expect such a remark from any other party leader except the Congress”, Rathore said.
Two Congress ministers from Rajasthan, Rajendra Gudha and P L Meena, however, said, making such remarks amounts to insulting our martyrs. Such a remark should not have been made, they said. But the Congress MLA, Virendra Singh was unrepentant. He said, “I have not disclosed the full facts. I will disclose the details when the opportunity comes. After all, why such coincidences occur only before elections?”
The Indian armed forces command respect throughout the world for its professionalism, valour and courage. Our army is a professional fighting force and apolitical. It stays aloof from the rough and tumble of politics. Their valour and strategic acumen have made the army invincible. Yet, even our senior army officers agree that a strong political will is required for the defence forces to succeed in its endeavours.
The strong will and leadership provided by the Prime Minister is essential for the success of our armed forces. Indira Gandhi in 1971 and Narendra Modi in 2019 displayed this strong will and leadership.
Defence experts and army officers agree that the armed forces have been modernized to a great extent during Modi’s rule. It was due to Prime Minister Modi’s drive that our armed forces today are being equipped with latest generation of jet fighters, submarines, tanks, rifles, and hi-tech equipment to counter the adversaries. This drive has brought about a manifold increase in the capability of our armed forces. So, when a leader like Rahul Gandhi says that ‘Rafale jet fighters, tanks and submarines alone does not make a country strong’, the remark seems to be childish. Armies the world over yearn for the latest equipment and weapons to fight battles. Even Indira Gandhi used to say this.
During the 1962 India-China war, the morale of our jawans and officers was high and they showed exemplary courage. But our jawans lacked modern weapons and even battle gear. They had outdated rifles and lacked even the basic equipment needed to fight battle on cold frontiers. Learning lessons from our 1962 debacle, our nation went on to modernize our army, air force and navy, and the results were evident during the 1965 and 1971 wars. We won both these wars.
During the last seven years of Prime Minister Modi’s rule, billions of dollars have been spent on acquiring latest jet fighters, submarines, assault rifles, tanks and other hi-tech equipment. The Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) policy in defence sector, followed by Modi government has earned the admiration and respect from senior army officers. Our armed forces are today ready to face any challenge on any terrain under whatsoever circumstances. It is time that our politicians realize this and keep politics away from the armed forces.
टेनी को इस्तीफा क्यों देना चाहिए?
लखीमपुर खीरी में बुधवार को एक शर्मनाक घटना हुई जब केंद्रीय गृह राज्य मंत्री अजय मिश्रा टेनी ने एक पत्रकार के साथ बदसलूकी की, अपशब्दों का इस्तेमाल किया, उसका कॉलर पकड़ लिया और फोन छीन लिया। पत्रकार ने टेनी से बेटे के केस को लेकर सवाल पूछा था। यह पूरी घटना कैमरे के सामने हुई और देखते ही देखते यह वीडियो वायरल हो गया। इसके बाद लोगों के कड़े रिएक्शन सामने आने लगे।
लखीमपुर खीरी से बीजेपी सांसद टेनी तीन अक्टूबर को उस वक्त सुर्खियों में आए जब उनके बेटे आशीष मिश्रा ऊर्फ मोनू ने कथित तौर पर प्रदर्शन कर रहे किसानों की भीड़ पर गाड़ी चढ़ा दी थी। इस घटना और उसके बाद हुई हिंसा में चार किसानों समेत आठ लोगों की मौत हो गई थी। यूपी पुलिस की एसआईटी ने अपनी रिपोर्ट में कहा है कि यह घटना सोची-समझी साजिश का नतीजा है। इसमें किसी तरह की लापरवाही वाली कोई बात नहीं है। एसआईटी ने आरोपियों के खिलाफ दर्ज मामले को हत्या की कोशिश के आरोपों में बदलने के लिए कोर्ट से इजाजत मांगी है। इस केस में मंत्री के बेटे समेत कुल 13 आरोपी फिलहाल सलाखों के पीछे हैं।
इस वीडियो में पत्रकार ने मंत्री से एसआईटी रिपोर्ट के बारे में सवाल किया और पूछा कि क्या वे इस्तीफा देंगे। इस पर मंत्री अपना आपा खो बैठे और मीडियाकर्मियों को ‘चोर’ कहा। टेनी को लगा कि उनके इलाके में, जनता के बीच उनसे इस तरह का सवाल पूछने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई। बस इसी बात पर टेनी ने आपा खो दिया। मंत्री ने कहा- ‘बेवकूफों की तरह सवाल मत पूछो, तुम्हारा दिमाग खराब हो गया है क्या? मैं तुम्हें यहीं पीटूंगा। तुम जानना क्या चाहते हो? तुमने एक निर्दोष आदमी को फंसा दिया है। तुम्हे शर्म नहीं आती?’
जाहिर है, टेनी उन सवालों से नाराज हो गए जिनका जवाब देना उनके लिए सहज नहीं था। गुस्से में टेनी यह भी भूल गए कि वे केंद्रीय गृह राज्य मंत्री हैं। सवाल का जबाव देने के बजाय अजय मिश्रा टेनी ने गालियां दी और बदसलूकी करने लगे। टेनी तीन अक्टूबर से ही यह दावा कर रहे थे कि अगर उनके बेटे को दोषी पाया गया तो वह इस्तीफा दे देंगे। अब सुप्रीम कोर्ट की निगरानी में काम कर रही एसआईटी ने भी कह दिया कि लखीमपुर खीरी में जो हुआ वो ‘पूर्व नियोजित साजिश’ थी और जानबूझकर किसानों को गाड़ी से कुचला गया। इसके बाद टेनी खुद को चौतरफा घिरा हुआ महसूस कर रहे हैं। उन्हें यह कहते हुए भी सुना गया – चार्जशीट पेश हुई क्या? कोर्ट ने दोषी ठहराया क्या?
मैं बता देता हूं कि चार्जशीट जल्द दाखिल की जाएगी। कानून के मुताबिक गिरफ्तारी के बाद 90 दिन के भीतर चार्जशीट दाखिल करनी होती है और यह समय-सीमा 2 जनवरी को पूरी हो रही है। मेरी जानकारी यह है कि पुलिस अगले हफ्ते तक चार्जशीट फाइल कर देगी। तब अजय मिश्रा टेनी जबाव देने लायक रहेंगे या नहीं, यह कहना मुश्किल है। इस बीच बीजेपी नेतृत्व ने मामले को गंभीरता से लिया है और टेनी को पार्टी अध्यक्ष से मिलने के लिए तलब किया है।
टेनी को लेकर विरोधी दलों का हमलावर होना स्वाभाविक है। विपक्ष ने मंत्री को बर्खास्त करने की मांग को लेकर संसद में हंगामा किया। विपक्षी दल के नेताओं राहुल गांधी, अखिलेश यादव और असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने टेनी को बर्खास्त करने की मांग की। केंद्रीय मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने कहा-चूंकि मामला विचाराधीन है और सुप्रीम कोर्ट जांच की निगरानी कर रहा है इसलिए इस मामले पर संसद में चर्चा नहीं की जा सकती।
ऐसा लगता है कि टेनी को इस बात की आदत पड़ गई है कि वो गलती खुद करते हैं और सजा दूसरों को देते हैं। बेटे से जुड़े सवाल पूछने पर अपशब्द कहना, धमकी देना, कैमरा बंद करा देना, दादागिरी नहीं तो और क्या है? जिस दिन लखीमपुर खीरी में किसानों के जुलूस पर गाड़ी चढ़ाई गई थी तब टेनी ने अपने बेटे का वीडियो दिखा कर कहा था कि वह तो दंगल करवा रहा था। वह मौका-ए-वारदात पर था ही नहीं। अब एसआईटी जिसमें यूपी सरकार के पुलिस के अफसर हैं, यह कहती है कि बेटा भी वहां था, गाड़ी भी मंत्री महोदय की थी तो फिर सवाल उठना तो लाजिमी है। अजय मिश्रा टेनी को नैतिकता के आधार पर इस्तीफा दे देना चाहिए। वे केन्द्र सरकार में मंत्री हैं। एक जिम्मेदार पद पर हैं। कम से कम उन्हें अपनी सरकार और पार्टी के लिए शर्मींदगी और मुसीबत की वजह नहीं बनना चाहिए।
Why Teni must go?
A shameful incident took place in Lakhimpur Kheri of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, when Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni abused a journalist, used cuss words, grabbed him by his collar and snatched his phone, when he asked about his son’s case. All this happened in front of cameras, and the video soon went viral evoking strong reactions.
Teni, the BJP MP from Lakhimpur Kheri, came to limelight on October 3, when his son Ashish Mishra alias Monu allegedly ran his vehicle into a crowd of protesters, killing eight people including four farmers. The Special Investigation Team of UP Police in its report has said, the incident was well-planned and a deliberate act, and not of negligence or callousness. The SIT has sought the court’s permission to include attempt to murder charges against the accused. Thirteen accused persons, including the minister’s son, are presently in jail.
In the video, the minister was asked by a journalist about the SIT report and whether he would now resign. The minister lost his cool and called mediapersons ‘thieves’. Teni was enraged more so because this question was being put to him in front of his followers in his own constituency. The minister said: “Do not ask questions like a fool. Have you lost your mental balance? I will beat you up here. What do you want to know? You turned an innocent person into an accused. Aren’t you ashamed?”
Clearly, Teni was angry because of questions that he thought were uncomfortable. In anger, he forgot that he was the Union Minister of State for Home. His loutish manner came to the fore, as he lunged at the reporter shouting abuses. It was Teni, who had been claiming since October 3 that he would resign if his son was found guilty. Now that the SIT probe under supervision of the Supreme Court has found the incident to be a “pre-planned conspiracy”, the minister finds himself cornered. He is heard saying nonchalantly whether any chargesheet has been filed, or whether the court has found him guilty.
The chargesheet is going to come soon, latest by January 2, when the 90 days’ window for filing chargesheet ends. My information is that police is going to file chargesheet anytime next week. It is difficult to predict what Teni will say at that time. Meanwhile, the BJP leadership has taken this matter seriously and Teni has been summoned to meet the party president.
The opposition took the cue and raised a ruckus in Parliament, demanding dismissal of the minister. Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Asaduddin Owaisi demanded his dismissal. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, since the matter was sub judice, and the probe is being monitored by Supreme Court, the matter cannot be discussed in Parliament.
It seems Teni has this habit of committing mistakes, and punishing others for his acts. To shut down cameras, to abuse mediapersons when asked about his son’s case, is nothing but sheer thuggery. The day his son’s car ran his vehicle into the crowd of protesting farmers, the minister claimed that his son was busy at a ‘dangal’(wrestling bout). Now that the SIT report filed by a senior UP police officer has come, which nails his lie, questions are bound to be raised. Teni should have resigned from his office on moral grounds. He is a minister in the Union Council of Ministers, and should not become an embarrassment for the party and government.
मोदी ने कैसे किया काशी का अद्भुत कायाकल्प
मुझे कई बार बनारस जाने का मौका मिला है। बनारस की गलियां भी देखी है और काशी-विश्वनाथ मंदिर में पूजा-अर्चना भी की है। लेकिन सच बताऊं तो देश के इस पवित्र मंदिर के चारों ओर गलियों की हालत देखकर दुख होता था। मंदिर जाने के लिए बनारस की संकरी गलियों से होकर दुकानों के बीच पानी और कीचड़ के रास्ते से गुजरना पड़ता था। गटर में गंदगी और कचरा भरा होता था। गलियों में सिर के ऊपर बिजली के तारों का जंजाल पसरा रहता था।
वाराणसी में रहने वाले लोग जिनमें ज्यादतर बाबा विश्वनाथ के भक्त हैं, गलियों की इस हालत को अपनी नियति मान चुके थे। वो कहते थे कि चारों तरफ दुकानें हैं और सैकड़ों लोगों के घर हैं। इन घरों में से भी ज्यादातर घर पुजारियों और पंडों के हैं। उनसे मकान खाली करना असंभव है। वहां के लोग कहते थे कि पुजारियों और पंडों से कौन टकराएगा। किसी भी राजनेता में यह साहस नहीं हुआ कि वह इन गलियों की हालत सुधारने के लिए इन पुजारियों और पंडों से पंगा मोल ले। लगता है जैसे सारा काम प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी पर छोड़ दिया गया था जिन्होंने यहां की दशा में एक चमत्कारिक परिवर्तन लाने का काम किया है।
नरेन्द्र मोदी ने इस तरह से यह काम किया कि किसी को शिकायत नहीं हुई। मंदिर के आस-पास तोड़-फोड़ का काम सुचारू रूप से चलता रहा। एक भी मामला अदालत में लंबित नहीं रहा। जो दुकानें और मकान टूटे उनके मालिकों की संतुष्टि का पूरा ध्यान रखते हुए पूरे मामले को सुलझाया गया और काशी विश्वनाथ को एक भव्य औऱ दिव्य स्वरूप दे दिया गया। हिंदू धर्म के सबसे पवित्र शहर काशी ने अपना खोया हुआ गौरव वापस पा लिया है। अध्यात्म, परोपकार और भक्ति में डूबे रहनेवाले वाराणसी के लोग यह मानते थे काशी की गलियों की हालत कभी नहीं सुधरेगी। उन्होंने संकरी गलियों, भीड़ और बारहों महीने ट्रैफिक जाम को अपने भाग्य का हिस्सा मान लिया था। यहां के लोग चतुराई इसमें मानते थे कि घर से किस वक्त निकलें और किस गली से रास्ता निकालें कि समय पर गंतव्य तक पहुंच जाएं। यहां के लोग दशकों से इसी फॉर्मूले पर चल रहे थे।
जब-जब मैं काशी गया तो वहां के प्रबुद्ध लोग, डॉक्टर्स, शिक्षक, वकीलों से मिला और लगभग सभी लोगों में काशी के प्रति अपार प्रेम को देखा। लेकिन उनमें एक निराशा का भाव भी था कि उनकी काशी कैसी है, यह सूरत कब बदलेगी। लेकिन बतौर सांसद नरेन्द्र मोदी ने उनकी निराशा को आशा में बदल दिया। हताशा को उत्साह में बदल दिया। उन्होंने काशी का कायाकल्प कर दिया।
अब काशी के वही लोग, वही दोस्त मुझसे कहते हैं कि आप एक बार काशी आकर देखिए। बगैर देखे आप कभी समझ नहीं पाएंगे कि कैसा चमत्कार हुआ है। मैंने बनारस के कई लोगों से बात की, उनके सुर बदले हुए थे। अब उन्हें अपनी काशी पर गर्व है। वो कहते हैं कि यह काम आसान नहीं था और इस चमत्कार को नरेंद्र मोदी के अलावा और कोई कर भी नहीं सकता था।
स्वाभाविक रूप से अब काशी के लोगों की अपेक्षाएं और भी बढ़ गई हैं और पिछले दो दिन में नरेन्द्र मोदी ने उन्हें आश्वस्त किया है कि वह काशीवालों की हर अपेक्षा को पूरी करेंगे। काशी के लोग अब संतुष्ट और खुश हैं।
यह पूरा बदलाव रिकॉर्ड समय में किया गया। काशी विश्वनाथ कॉरिडोर परियोजना को निर्बाध रूप से काफी तेज गति से पूरा किया गया है। यहां गलियों और सड़कों को चौड़ा किया गया, अंडरग्राउंड केबल नेटवर्क बनाकर सिर के ऊपर लटकने वाले तारों के जंजाल को हटा दिया गया। गंगा नदी के घाट अब साफ हो गए हैं, गंगा के पानी की गुणवत्ता में सुधार हुआ है और यह पीने योग्य है। एक और महत्वपूर्ण काम यह हुआ है कि अब बाबा के घर का कायाकल्प हो गया है। भोलेनाथ और भक्तों के बीच की दूरी कम हो गई है। अब तीर्थयात्री गंगा में स्नान के बाद जल चढ़ाने के लिए सीधे काशी विश्वनाथ मंदिर जा सकते हैं। काशी के लोग वही हैं लेकिन अब उनका अंदाज नया है। उनके अंदर आत्म-सम्मान का नया भाव है।
काशी कितनी बदल गई है, इसे समझने या फिर इसे देखने के लिए आपको बहुत ज्यादा मेहनत करने की जरूरत नहीं है। बनारस स्टेशन (पुराना नाम-मंडुआडीह। जैसे दिल्ली में निजामुद्दीन रेलवे स्टेशन है, उसी तरह काशी का एक स्टेशन था-मंडुआडीह। इसी साल इसका नाम बदल कर बनारस किया गया है) पर उतरते ही वहीं से आपको बदलाव दिख जाएगा। पहले यहां रेलवे स्टेशन की बिल्डिंग अंग्रेजों के जमाने की थी, पुराने दफ्तर थे लेकिन अब वहां कुछ भी पुराना नहीं है। स्टेशन की बिल्डिंग, प्लेटफॉर्म, दफ्तर से लेकर सबकुछ नया है। एस्केलेटर, ओवरब्रिज, रेस्ट रूम सब नया और हाईटेक सुविधाओं से लैस है। आधी रात को पीएम मोदी मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ के साथ इस रेलवे स्टेशन पर गए और इस नवनिर्मित स्टेशन का खुद निरीक्षण किया। पहले मंडुआडीह स्टेशन पर तीन प्लेटफॉर्म थे लेकिन अब यहां आठ प्लेटफॉर्म हैं। प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर आठ पर एक बड़ा सा यात्री लाउंज है जहां एक बार में 168 यात्री बैठ सकते हैं। रेलवे ने अकेले यात्री सुविधाओं पर 100 करोड़ रुपये खर्च किए।
प्रधानमंत्री मोदी कभी-भी अपने अधिकारियों की भेजी गई एक्शन रिपोर्ट पर आंख मूंदकर भरोसा नहीं करते। आधी रात को वे वाराणसी के मशहूर गोदौलिया चौक पहुंचे। पीएम मोदी सीएम योगी के साथ मुख्य सड़क पर पैदल चले, वहां घूमे और स्थानीय लोगों से बात की और उनका फीडबैक लिया। काशी-विश्वनाथ कॉरिडोर प्रोजेक्ट के तहत ही गोदौलिया चौक का भी रि-डेवेलपमेंट किया गया है। इस इलाके की सड़कों को चौड़ा किया गया है। मल्टी लेवल पार्किंग बनाई गई है। पूरे इलाके में LED लाइट्स लगाई गई हैं। पहले इस इलाके में हर वक्त जाम लगा रहता था, गाड़ियां तो छोड़िए, पैदल चलने वालों को भी दिक्कत होती थी। लेकिन अब हालात बदल गए हैं। स्थानीय लोगों ने नए बदलाव के बारे में पीएम मोदी से बात की।
इंडिया टीवी के संवाददाताओं ने काशी-विश्वनाथ मंदिर के बाहर निवनिर्मित कॉरिडोर में लाइन में लगे तीर्थयात्रियों से बात की। इन लोगों ने इस पूरे बदलाव की तारीफ की।
20 हजार वर्ग फीट के मंदिर परिसर को अब बढ़ाकर 5 लाख वर्ग फीट कर दिया गया है। नए कॉरिडोर में 23 नए भवन बने हैं और 27 मंदिरों का नवीनीकरण हुआ है। कॉरिडोर को तीन भागों में बांटा गया है जिसमें चार बड़े द्वार हैं। कॉरिडोर को 22 विशाल मार्बल प्लेटों से सजाया गया है जो काशी के इतिहास को दर्शाती हैं। मंदिर चौक, मुमुक्षु भवन, 3 यात्री सुविधा केंद्र, 4 शॉपिंग कॉम्प्लेक्स, सिटी म्यूजियम, वाराणसी गैलरी और एक बहुउद्देश्यीय हॉल इस काशी-विश्वनाथ कॉरिडोर प्रोजेक्ट का हिस्सा हैं। पहले हजारों की तादाद में श्रद्धालुओं को इस मंदिर में दाखिल होने के लिए काफी धक्का-मुक्की का सामना करना पड़ता था। अब हालात बदले हैं। मंगलवार को सभी श्रद्धालु दर्शन के लिए कतारों में खड़े नजर आए।
वाराणसी के सभी घाट अब साफ-सुथरे और गंदगी से मुक्त नजर आते हैं। यहां से अतिक्रमण को हटा दिया गया है। गंगा नदी के तटों को साफ रखने के लिए एफ्लुएंट ट्रीटमेंट प्लांट काम कर रहे हैं।
काशी में इस तरह का बदलाव लाने की योजना पर 4500 करोड़ रुपये खर्च हुए हैं। 4500 करोड़ में से 900 करोड़ रुपये सिर्फ काशी-विश्वनाथ कॉरिडोर पर खर्च किए गए। 450 करोड़ रुपये अंडरग्राउंड केबलिंग पर, 100 करोड़ रुपये गंगा घाटों पर और बाकी राशि सड़कों के चौड़ीकरण, मल्टीलेवल पार्किंग, 1.25 लाख एलईडी लाइट्स और गोदौलिया चौक के सौदर्यीकरण पर खर्च की गई।
इस तीर्थ नगरी को स्वच्छ बनाने के बाद अब मोदी को उम्मीद है कि यहां पर्यटन और होटल सेक्टर को ज़बरदस्त फायदा पहुंचेगा । उन्होंने वाराणसी में मेडिकल हब बनाने की योजना भी बनाई है। पहले ही वाराणसी के पास आधुनिक एयरपोर्ट और शहर को जोड़ने के लिए अच्छे हाइवे और अच्छी सड़कें मौजूद हैं।
कहा जाता है – जहां चाह, वहां राह । मोदी ने वही किया जो अब तक असंभव माना जाता था। यह तो कहा जा सकता है कि काशी का यह कायाकल्प किसी जादू से कम नहीं है।
How Modi transformed Varanasi
I had the opportunity to travel to Varanasi several times in the past. I offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath shrine. I have seen the filth on the roads and lanes leading to the temple. On each of my visits, I used to feel sad looking at the squalor all around the holiest shrine of India. To perform prayers in the temple, one had to walk through dingy lanes crowded with shops on both sides, with gutters choked with filth and garbage and electric cables hanging overhead in a jumble.
The residents of Varanasi, most of them ardent followers of Lord Shiva, had taken these bleak scenes as part of their fate, for several centuries. They used to say that most of these small shops and homes belonged to the families of priests, and it was next to impossible to demolish all of them. None of the politicians dared to take on the temple priests on the issue of clearing up the roads. It was left to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who brought about this miraculous transformation.
The work of demolition went on smoothly, with not a single civil case pending in courts and the entire matter was resolved to the satisfaction of the shop and house owners. The holiest city of Hinduism, Kashi, has regained its lost glory. Those living in Varanasi, steeped in spiritualism, philanthropy and devotion, had taken the narrow lanes, crowds and perennial traffic jams as part of their fate. They had learnt, over the decades, the exact timings about when to step out of their houses and go to their destinations, without facing crowds and traffic jams.
Over the years, I had met several intellectuals, lawyers, professors, doctors and teachers living in Benares, and almost all of them who loved Kashi, were resigned to their fate. It was Modi, as their MP, who transformed their disappointment into hope. He changed the face of Kashi.
The same friends, who spoke about the filth and squalor of Kashi, now invited me to come and see how their beloved city has changed. They told me, unless you come and see with your own eyes, you will never believe the transformation that has taken place. All of them were unanimous in saying that it was only Modi who could have brought about this miracle.
The task was not easy. The eyes of these friends are now lit with joy and a sense of pride about their city has now crept in their conversations. Naturally, the expectations of the people of Kashi have now risen, and during his two-day sojourn, Modi assured them that he would strike to fulfil them too. The people of Kashi are now happy, satisfied.
The transformation was done in record time. The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor project was executed at breakneck speed. Roads were widened, all electric cables hanging overhead were removed by setting up underground cable network, the Ganga river bank ‘ghats’ are now clean, the quality of Ganga water have improved and is drinkable, last, but not the least, every pilgrim, after taking bath in Ganga, can go straight to the Kashi Vishwanath shrine to offer water on the holy ‘lingam’, unimpeded. The distance between Baba Bholenath and his millions of pilgrims is now short. The people of Kashi have regained their self-confidence.
To know how Kashi has changed, you only need to step out of the train at Benares station (renamed: the earlier name was Manduadih). The old station, built during the British rule, with decrepit offices, now looks new, equipped with latest hi-tech facilities, with clean platforms, escalators, overbridges and rest rooms. At midnight, Modi went to this railway station with UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, and himself inspected the new station that has been built. Previously, the Manduadih station had only three platforms. There are now eight platforms. At Platform 8 is a big passengers’ lounge, where 168 travellers can sit at a time. Rs 100 crore was spent by Railways on passenger amenities alone.
Modi never blindly trusts the action taken reports sent by his officers. At midnight, he also visited Godowlia Chowk in Varanasi, the city’s nerve centre. He walked the main road along with Yogi Adityanath, and got feedback from local residents about the changes that have taken place. This Godowlia Chowk was redeveloped as part of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor project. Roads have been widened, LED lights installed and multi-level parking has been built. Previously, the roads used to be congested, with traffic jams and no space left for pedestrians on the sidewalk. The residents of this area told the PM the changes that have now taken place.
India TV reporters spoke to pilgrims who had lined up outside Kashi Vishwanath temple at the newly built corridor on Tuesday. They were effusive in their praises.
The 20,000 sq. ft temple premises have now been enlarged to 5 lakh sq. feet. In the new corridor, 23 new buildings have come up and 27 temples have been refurbished. The corridor has been divided into three parts, with four large gates, and the corridor has been adorned with 22 huge marble plates, depicting the history of Kashi. Mandir Chowk, Mumukshu Bhawan, 3 passenger facilitation centres, 4 shopping complexes, city museum, Varanasi gallery and a multi-purpose hall are part of this project. Earlier, devotees in thousands used to jostle to enter the shrine. On Tuesday, the devotees stood in queues in a regulated manner.
All the ghats of Varanasi now look clean, free of filth, with all encroachments removed. Effluent treatment plants are working to ensure that the Ganga river at the banks remains clean.
Out of Rs 4,500 crore spent on transforming Kashi, Rs 900 crore was spent on the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, Rs 450 crore was spent on underground electric cabling, Rs 100 crore on refurbishing the Ganga ghats, and remaining money on widening of roads, multi-level parking, 1.25 lakh LED lights, and beautification of Godowlia Chowk.
After making the holiest city clean, Modi expects a huge increase in tourism and hospitality sector in Varanasi. He has also plans to create a medical hub in this city. Already, the modernized Varanasi airport and the highways and roads connected to the city are in place.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Modi has done what was till now considered impossible. The transformation of Kashi has been magical, to say the least.
देश ने नम आंखों से दी जनरल बिपिन रावत को अंतिम विदाई
देश ने शुक्रवार को अपने पहले चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ जनरल बिपिन रावत, उनकी पत्नी मधुलिका और अन्य सैन्यकर्मियों को नम आंखों से श्रद्धांजलि दी। कई शहरों में लोगों ने मोमबत्तियां जलाकर उन्हें नमन किया। जब जनरल का पार्थिव शरीर अंतिम संस्कार के लिए गन कैरिज पर दिल्ली कैंट से बरार स्क्वॉयर ले जाया जा रहा था, उस वक्त दिल्ली की सड़कों पर बड़ी तादाद में लोग उनकी अंतिम यात्रा देखने उमड़ पड़े और उनके पार्थिव अवशेष पर फूल बरसाए।
हाथों में तिरंगा लिए बड़ी संख्या में युवक ‘भारत माता की जय’ और ‘वंदे मातरम’ के नारों के साथ दौड़ पड़े। रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह, तीन सेनाओं के चीफ और ब्रिटेन, रूस, फ्रांस, नेपाल, श्रीलंका, बांग्लादेश और भूटान के गणमान्य लोगों की मौजूदगी में जनरल रावत को 17 तोपों की सलामी दी गई।
जब लोगों ने जनरल रावत की दोनों बेटियों कृत्तिका और तारिणी को अपने माता-पिता को मुखाग्नि देते देखा तो दिल भर आया। यह बेहद भावुक दृश्य था और कई लोगों की आंखों में आंसू छलक आए। सीडीएस के रक्षा सलाहकार ब्रिगेडियर लखविंदर सिंह लिड्डर का अंतिम संस्कार भी शुक्रवार को दिन में किया गया। जनरल रावत का अंतिम संस्कार पूरे सैन्य सम्मान के साथ हुआ। तीनों सेनाओं के बिगुलरों ने ‘द लास्ट पोस्ट’ की धुन बजाई। हमारे जवानों की बहादुरी और जांबाजी तो पूरी दुनिया ने देखी है लेकिन शुक्रवार को दुनिया ने इन बेटियों की हिम्मत और उनका हौसला देखा। इन वीर जवानों की बहादुर बेटियों ने अपने गम को सीने में छुपा कर पिता को आखिरी विदाई दी।
ब्रिगेडियर लिड्डर की 17 साल की बेटी आशना ने कहा, ‘मेरे पिता मेरे सबसे अच्छे दोस्त थे, वो मेरे मेंटर थे। मैं पापा की लाडली हूं। वो मेरी आंखों में कभी आंसू नहीं देख सकते थे, इसीलिए पापा को रोकर विदा नहीं करूंगी।’
सैनिक होना सम्मान की बात है लेकिन एक सैनिक का बेटा, बेटी या परिजन होना आसान नहीं है। अंतिम संस्कार को देखते हुए मुझे जनरल बिपिन रावत की कही बात याद आई, ‘फौज में भर्ती होना सिर्फ नौकरी नहीं है.. सैनिक नौकरी नहीं करता… वो फौज में कुछ पाने नहीं आता है….वो तो देश की खातिर सब कुछ न्योछावर करने को तैयार रहता है।’ जनरल बिपिन रावत, ब्रिगेडियर लिड्डर और 11 दूसरे जवान यही कर गए। देश की सेवा करते करते आखिरी सांस तक अपना फर्ज निभाया और प्राणों की आहुति दे दी।
जनरल रावत और ब्रिगेडियर लिड्डर की बेटियों ने पूरे धैर्य, संयम और गरिमा के साथ अंतिम संस्कार की प्रक्रिया पूरी की। जब लोगों ने जनरल रावत की बेटियों कृतिका और तारिणी को चिता के चारों ओर परिक्रमा करते और माता-पिता को मुखाग्नि देते देखा तो वहां कोई आंख ऐसी नहीं थी जो नम न हो। ‘जनरल रावत अमर रहें’ और ‘भारत माता की जय’ के नारे गूंज रहे थे। जनरल रावत को 17 तोपों की सलामी दी गई। तस्वीरें देखकर लगा कि वाकई जनरल रावत जनता के जनरल थे। उन्होंने सिर्फ दुश्मनों पर जीत हासिल नहीं की बल्कि जनता के दिलों को भी जीता है।
आखिर जनरल रावत लोगों के बीच इतने लोकप्रिय कैसे हो गए? इसकी वजह समझने की जरूरत है। जनरल रावत लोगों की भावनाओं को समझते थे और हमेशा दुश्मनों को अपने काम और शब्द, दोनों से मुंहतोड़ जवाब देते थे। जब उन्होंने कहा, ‘आतंकवादी पाकिस्तान से आते रहेंगे और हमारी सेना उन्हें ढाई फीट गड्ढे में दफन करती रहेगी’, उनके ये शब्द लोगों के दिलो-दिमाग पर छा गए। जब उन्होंने कहा, ‘हमारा सबसे बड़ा दुश्मन चीन है और उससे निपटने की क्षमता हम रखते हैं’ तो उनकी इस बात ने हर देशवासी के मन को साहस से भर दिया।
जनरल रावत का रवैया अपने जूनियरों के प्रति बेहद नरम रहता था लेकिन देश के दुश्मनों के खिलाफ वे उतने ही कठोर थे। लोग जनरल रावत को सुनना पसंद करते थे। वे कभी राजनीति पर बात नहीं करते थे। वह केवल रक्षा, रणनीति, सेना और वीरता पर अपने विचार रखते थे। वह हमेशा दुश्मन को मुंहतोड़ जवाब देने की बात करते थे। उनकी साफ और स्पष्ट सोच के चलते लोग उन्हें प्यार करते थे।
जनरल रावत सेना का थिएटर कमांड स्थापित करने के मिशन में लगे थे। तीनों सेनाओं के बीच समन्वय स्थापित करने के लिए थिएटर कमांड का गठन बेहद अहम था। अमेरिका और चीन इस तरह का काम पहले कर चुके हैं। अब जनरल रावत के असामयिक निधन से यह काम अधूरा रह गया है। जनरल रावत नए और आधुनिक हथियारों के साथ तीनों सेनाओं को नयी तकनीक से लैस करने की आधुनिकीकरण की प्रक्रिया में जुटे थे। जनरल रावत के निधन पर उमड़ी शोक की लहर, अंतिम यात्रा में उमड़े जनसैलाब और सड़क पर फूल और तिरंगा लेकर खड़ी भीड़ से यह साफ है कि देश के लोगों को उनपर भरोसा था। देश के इतिहास में पहली बार किसी सेवारत रक्षा प्रमुख को उनकी अंतिम यात्रा के दौरान लोगों ने इस तरह से श्रद्धांजलि दी।
जनरल बिपिन रावत अमर रहेंगे। लोगों के दिलों में उनकी जगह हमेशा बनी रहेगी। अपने साहस और पराक्रम की वजह से उन्हें हमेशा याद किया जाएगा। उनके शौर्य और वीरता की कहानियां देश के घर-घर में आनेवाली पीढ़ियों को सुनाई जाएंगी।
