महाकुंभ : हालात सामान्य, जागते रहो !
आज सबके मन में एक ही सवाल है. प्रयागराज में अब हालात कैसे हैं? क्या अभी भी संगम में स्नान करने वालों की भारी भीड़ है? क्या श्रद्धालु आराम से स्नान कर पा रहे हैं? क्या अभी भी भारी संख्या में भक्त लगातार प्रयागराज पहुंच रहे हैं? कितने लोगों ने संगम में डुबकी लगाई? ऐसे बहुत से परिवार हैं जिनके लोग प्रयागराज में डुबकी लगा चुके हैं लेकिन अभी लौट नहीं पाए हैं. ऐसे लोगों के लौटने के लिए क्या इंतजाम किए गए हैं? महाकुंभ में पहुंचने वाले लोग निश्चिंत होकर डुबकी लगा सकें, इसके लिए नई पाबंदियां लगाई गईं हैं.
हालांकि अब भीड़ पहले के मुकाबले कम है लेकिन फिर भी लाखों लोग महाकुंभ क्षेत्र में इकट्ठे हो चुके हैं. गुरुवार को दो करोड़ छह लाख से ज्यादा श्रद्धालुओं ने संगम में डुबकी लगाई. गंगा स्नान में लोगों को ज्यादा दिक्कतों का सामना नहीं करना पड़ा. मेला क्षेत्र में सब कुछ सही चला क्योंकि मौनी अमावस्या की घटना से प्रशासन ने सबक लिया है. जो खामियां सामने आई, श्रद्धालुओं से जो फीडबैक मिला और विशेषज्ञों की जो राय मिली, सबके आधार पर प्रशासन ने कदम उठाए. उसका असर महाकुंभ में दिखाई दिया.
मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने अफसरों को निर्देश दिया कि दो बातों का ख्याल रखना है. पहला, जो लोग प्रयागराज में हैं, गंगा स्नान कर चुके हैं, उन्हें सुरक्षित वापस भेजा जाए. दूसरा, जो लोग देश के दूसरे हिस्सों से महाकुंभ में डुबकी लगाने के लिए प्रयागराज आ रहे हैं, रास्तों में फंसे हैं, उन्हें सुरक्षित प्रयागराज लाया जाए. इसे ध्यान में रखते हुए अफसरों ने महाकुंभ की व्यवस्थाओं में सात बड़े बदलाव किए.
सबसे पहले महाकुंभ का पूरा मेला क्षेत्र no-vehicle zone घोषित किया गया. मेले के अंदर सिर्फ ज़रूरी सामानों की सप्लाई वाली गाड़ियों, और आपातकालीन सेवाओं वाली गंड़ियों को छोड़ कर अन्य सभी तरह की गाड़ियों के प्रवेश पर रोक लगा दी गई है. मेले के लिए जो VIP पास जारी किए गए थे, वे सारे पास रद्द कर दिए गए हैं. 5 फरवरी तक नए VIP पास नहीं बनेंगे. इसके साथ-साथ, मेला क्षेत्र के सभी रास्तों को वन-वे कर दिया गया है ताकि किसी भी रास्ते पर श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ आमने-सामने आने की नौबत न बने.
पॉन्टून पुल पर भी गाड़ियों की एंट्री रोक दी गई है. 30 पॉन्टून पुलों में से 29 पुल श्रद्धालुओं के लिए खोल दिए गए हैं. आधे पुलों पर स्नान के लिए संगम जाने वाले श्रद्धालु गुजरेंगे और आधे पुल स्नान करके लौटने वालों के लिए हैं. एक पुल पुलिस और आपातकालीन सेवाओं के लिए खाली रखा गया है. इसके अलावा श्रद्धालुओं से लगातार अपील की जा रही है कि स्नान के बाद घाटों पर न रूकें जिससे भीड़ न हो. वॉलेंटियर्स लोगों से अपील कर रहे हैं कि अगर थक गए हों, तो भी रास्तों पर न बैठे, रास्तों पर न सोएं, वरना हादसा हो सकता है. .स्नान के बाद तुरंत घाट छोड़ दें और अपने कैम्प या घर की तरफ रवाना हो जाएं.
प्रयागराज में श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ कम करने के लिए रेलवे ने ज़बरदस्त काम किया है. रल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव लगातार केंद्रीय कमान रूम में जमे रहे. योगी ने रेल मंत्री से प्रयागराज से भक्तों को निकालने के लिए और ज्यादा ट्रेनें चलाने की अपील की थी. इसका असर ये हुआ कि सिर्फ प्रयागराज से भक्तों को वापस अपने घर भेजने के लिए तीन सौ से ज्यादा ट्रेनें चलाई गई. प्रयागराज के पांच और रेलवे स्टेशनों से कुंभ स्पेशल ट्रेन्स चल रही हैं. हर चार मिनट में किसी न किसी ट्रेन को रवाना किया जा रहा है. प्रयागराज जंक्शन पर श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ बेक़ाबू न हो, इसके लिए जंक्शन के जोनों और अलग-अलग होल्डिंग एरिया बनाए गए हैं. एक तरफ 25 हज़ार श्रद्धालुओं को जंक्शन से पहले रोकने की व्यवस्था है और ख़ुसरो बाग़ में एक लाख पैसेंजर्स को होल्ड करने की व्यवस्था की गई है. यात्रियों को डेस्टिनेशन के हिसाब से ट्रेन आने से ठीक पहले प्लेटफॉर्म की तरफ भेजा जा रहा है. रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने बताया कि कल रेलवे ने प्रयागराज से 364 ट्रेनें चलाईं. 12 लाख लोगों को उनकी मंज़िलों तक पहुंचाया गया.
ये तो सब मानते हैं कि करोड़ों लोगों के लिए संगम में स्नान की व्यवस्था करना दुरूह काम है. ये भी दिखाई दे रहा है कि महाकुंभ में भक्तों की भीड़ अपेक्षा से कहीं अधिक आई है. जब लोग अपने अपने इलाकों में जाकर बताते हैं कि व्यवस्था अच्छी है तो और लोग उत्साहित होकर प्रयागराज की तरफ प्रस्थान करते हैं. एक बड़ी समस्या ये है कि जो लोग महाकुंभ में आ रहे हैं, वे तुरंत लौटना नहीं चाहते. लोग रहने की, खाने की व्यवस्थाओं से संतुष्ट हैं. इसीलिए एक-दो दिन और रुकना चाहते हैं. अब जब लोगों से वापस लौटने की अपील की गई है तो बैकलॉग की वजह से रेलवे स्टेशनों पर, सड़कों पर भारी भीड़ है. ट्रैफिक का आवागमन धीमा हो गया है.
एक और बड़ी समस्या ये है कि जो लोग प्रयागराज से लौट रहे हैंल वे सीधे अपने घर नहीं लौटना चाहते. ज्यादातर लोग दो-चार दिन का प्रोग्राम बनाकर आए हैं. इसीलिए बहुत से लोग काशी विश्वनाथ जाकर महादेव का जलाभिषेक करना चाहते हैं और बड़ी संख्या में लोग राम लला का मंदिर देखना चाहते हैं. इसीलिए अयोध्या में भी लाखों लोगों की भीड़ पहुंच रही है, रामलला के दर्शन कर रही है.
श्रद्धालुओं की भारी भीड़ को देखते हुए अयोध्या में 12वीं क्लास तक के स्कूल 5 फ़रवरी तक के लिए बंद कर दिए गए हैं. पूरे अयोध्या शहर में फोर व्हीलर और टू-व्हीलर गाड़ियों की एंट्री बैन कर दी गई है. कई ऐसे लोग हैं जिनकी ट्रेन छूट गई है या जिन्हें ट्रांसपोर्ट नहीं मिल पा रहा. ऐसे लोगों से मेरा निवेदन है कि वे धैर्य रखें, थोड़ा इंतजार करें क्योंकि उन्हें सुरक्षित घर पहुंचाने के लिए हर संभव प्रयास किया जा रहा है.
Maha Kumbh : Situation normal, time to be alert
Today I would like to mention about concerns being expressed by a cross-section of people, who want to know about the ground situation in Maha Kumbh. They want to know whether the place is still overcrowded, whether devotees are being able to take a holy dip in peace, about millions of devotees who are stuck on the national highways leading to Prayagraj. There are hundreds of families who have taken a holy dip, but are waiting to leave the city.
In order to ease the situation, the state administration has declared the entire Maha Kumbh area as a “no-vehicle zone”. All VIP passes have been cancelled. No vehicles, except those belonging to the police and state government and sadhu ‘akhadas’ are being allowed inside Kumbh Nagari. Till Friday, more than two lakh vehicles remained stranded on highways leading to Prayagraj. They will be allowed to go ahead only after the city is cleared of crowds who have overstayed after taking their bath.
On Mauni Amavasya Day (Wednesday), more than 7.6 crore devotees took their bath at the Maha Kumbh after the stampede took place post-midnight.
On Thursday, there was early morning fog at the Maha Kumbh, but there was no sign of the enthusiasm of devotees ebbing away. More than 2.6 crore devotees took their dip in Ganga on Thursday. Everything went smoothly and the situation has normalized within 24 hours due to effective intervention on part of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
Yogi has directed officials to take care of two things:
One, those who have already bathed at Maha Kumbh must return safely,
Two, millions of devotees who have been stranded on highways and other nearby cities, must be allowed to come to Prayagraj in a regulated manner.
Seven major changes were made at the Maha Kumbh. The entire area has been declared a ‘no-vehicle zone’ with exemptions for vehicles bringing essential commodities and all emergency vehicles. All VIP passes have been cancelled till February 5. All roads leading to the Mela area have been converted as “one-way”.
Entry of vehicles towards all pontoon bridges have been stopped. 29 out of 30 pontoon bridges have been opened for devotees. Half of these bridges will be used by devotees for taking their holy dip, and the other half will be used for devotees to return. One pontoon bridge has been kept reserved for police and emergency services.
Authorities are making appeal to all devotees not to overstay at the bathing ghats and return. Volunteers are requesting pilgrims not to sit on the roads to avoid chances of being run over. UP chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and Director General of Police Prashant Kumar were specifically sent by Yogi to Maha Kumbh on Thursday to oversee the arrangements.
Indian Railways, under close supervision of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, ran more than 300 special trains for devotees returning from Prayagraj and four other suburban stations. Every special train is leaving after a gap of four minutes carrying devotees returning from Maha Kumbh.
Holding areas have been created at the Prayagraj Junction for more than 25,000 devotees to avoid overcrowding on the platforms. In Khushrow Bagh, holding area has been created for nearly one lakh devotees. Devotees are being sent to platforms as per their destinations. Ashwini Vaishnaw said, 364 special trains were run on Wednesday from Prayagraj to carry nearly 12 lakh travellers to their destinations.
Making massive arrangements for crores of devotees coming to Sangam and then returning to their destinations is a gargantuan task. The number of devotees who have come to Maha Kumbh has exceeded all expectations. When these devotees return to their cities and villages, they tell people that the arrangements at Maha Kumbh are fine, and then more batches of devotees leave for Prayagraj. This seems to be an unending cycle.
Another problem is about lakhs of devotees who are unwilling to leave Maha Kumbh even after taking a holy dip. They are satisfied with the arrangements made for food and shelter. They want to stay for a day or two more. Authorities have started appealing to these devotees to leave as soon as possible to allow others to come and take their holy dip. Because of the huge backlog of devotees waiting to come to Maha Kumbh, traffic movement on highways has become slower.
Another problem relates to devotees who have added Ayodhya and Kashi to their itineraries, so that then can visit the new Ram Janmabhoomi temple and Kashi Vishwanath shrine after attending Maha Kumbh. Both Ayodhya and Varanasi are facing a huge influx of devotees. In Ayodhya, schools up to Class 12 have been closed till February 5 because of the influx. Entry of four-wheelers and two-wheelers into Ayodhya has been banned. Lakhs of devotees are lining up to pay obeisance to the idol of Ram Lala.
I would, therefore, appeal to all to exercise patience and wait till the situation eases. All arrangements are being made for their holy dip, darshan and safe return to their respective homes.
महाकुंभ : क्या दुखद हादसा VIPs के कारण हुआ?
मौनी अमावस्या के पवित्र मौके पर महाकुंभ में दस करोड़ से ज्यादा श्रद्धालुओं ने संगम में डुबकी लगाई. लेकिन बीती रात संगम नगरी में एक बहुत ही दुखद, दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण हादसा हो गया. संगम के पास सबसे पहले स्नान करने के लिए लोग समय से पहले पहुंच गए. कुछ लोग रास्ते पर लेट गए. कई लोगों को वहां नींद आ गई. पीछे से आने वाले लोगों की संख्या बहुत ज्यादा थी.
रात करीब 1 बजे भीड़ पुलिस बैरिकेड तोड़कर संगम की तरफ दौड़ी. किसी ने वहां लेटे हुए लोगों को नहीं देखा और इस दुखद हादसे में तीस लोगों की मौत हो गई. साठ से ज्यादा लोग घायल हो गए. ये बताते हुए योगी आदित्यनाथ की आंखों में आंसू थे. हालांकि पुलिस और प्रशासन ने तत्काल कार्रवाई की, एंबुलेंस बुलाईं, ग्रीन कॉरिडोर बनाया, लोगों को अस्पताल पहुंचाया लेकिन इस बात का बेहद दुख है कि 30 लोगों को बचाया नहीं जा सका.
योगी आदित्यनाथ आधी रात के बाद से कंट्रोल रूम में थे. पूरी रात अफसरों से पल-पल की जानकारी लेते रहे. प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी भी सूरज निकलने से पहले चार बार योगी से फोन पर हालात पर अपडेट ले चुके थे. गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने भी योगी से बात की. रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने स्नान करने के बाद भक्तों को तुरंत प्रयागराज से वापस भेजने के लिए विशेष रेलगाड़ियों का इंतजाम किया. मेला प्रशासन ने करोड़ों भक्तों की भीड़ को देखते हुए संगम नगरी के सारे रास्ते खोल दिए जिससे एक जगह पर भीड़ न जमा हो.
पहली बार ऐसा हुआ जब मौनी अमावस्या के मौके पर अखाड़ों के धर्माचार्यों और नागा साधुओं से पहले आम लोगों ने संगम में डुबकी लगाई. शंकराचार्यों, आचार्यों और महामंडलेश्वरों ने आखिर में गंगा स्नान किया. प्रयागराज में भीड़ को देखते हुए आसपास के शहरों में श्रद्धालुओं की गाडियों को रोक दिया गया. इसके बाद भी दस करोड़ से ज्यादा श्रद्धालुओं ने डुबकी लगाई. लाखों लोग वाराणसी, जौनपुर, प्रतापगढ़, फतेहपुर जैसे शहरों में फंस गए.
मौनी अमावस्या के शुभ अवसर पर महाकुंभ में दुर्घटना गंभीर है, रुलाने वाली है. सवाल सिर्फ मरने वालों और घायलों की संख्या का नहीं है. अगर एक भक्त की भी जान जानती है, तो ये बड़ी बात है. ये सही है कि अमृत योग में सबसे पहले स्नान करने की ललक के कारण बहुत से श्रद्धालु वहीं लेटे हुए थे. जब भीड़ का रेला आया तो किसी ने नीचे नहीं देखा. लोग कुचले गए.
मैं इसे प्रशासन की चूक मानता हूं क्योंकि इस स्थिति का पहले से अंदाज़ा नहीं लगाया गया. वहां सबकुछ है, सीसीटीवी कैमरे लगे हैं, ड्रोन हैं, पुलिस कर्मी तैनात हैं, STF, NDRF, NSG सब तरह के सरक्षा बल हैं पर इस स्थिति का पूर्वानुमान किसी ने नहीं किया. लेकिन इस कारण ये कह देना कि महाकुंभ में हर जगह बदइंतजामी है, व्यवस्था खराब है, वहां दिन-रात प्रबंध करने वाले पुलिसकर्मियों और कर्मचारियों के प्रति अन्याय होगा क्योंकि वे लोग बहुत परिश्रम कर रहे हैं. बुधवार को 8 करोड़ लोग महाकुंभ में पहुंचे क्योंकि उन्होंने लोगों से सुना था कि इंतजाम अच्छा है, रजाई भी है, सफाई भी है, दवाई भी है, लेकिन अच्छा प्रबंध भी मुसीबत बन सकता है, इसकी किसी ने कल्पना नहीं की.
जो लोग संगम में नहा लिए, डुबकी लगा ली, वे भी वहीं रुक गए थे, जाना नहीं चाहते थे. वो साधु संतों की शोभायात्रा को, नागा साधुओं को देखना चाहते थे. हर किसी के हाथ में मोबाइल है, वो इस दृश्य को अपने कैमरे में रिकॉर्ड करना चाहते थे. इसीलिए भीड़ पर काबू पाना मुश्किल हो गया, बैरिकेड टूट गए और ये हादसा हुआ. मैं इस मामले में कुंभ नगरी में मौजूद साधु संतों की प्रशंसा करूंगा, उन्होंने रात को ही वीडियो जारी कर लोगों से अपील की. लोगों को समझाया कि जो जहां हैं, वहीं स्नान कर लें, पुण्य मिलेगा. दूसरा उन्होंने अपने अमृत स्नान को टाल दिया, पहले लोगों को स्नान करने दिया.
योगी आदित्यनाथ का प्रबंधन, केन्द्र और राज्य सरकार के बीच समन्वय और ज़मीन पर प्रशासन की फुर्ती का असर भी कुछ ही घंटों में दिखने लगा. संगम नगरी की फिज़ा में फिर भक्तों का जोश दिखने लगा. चूंकि अखाड़ों का स्नान टाल दिया गया था, इसलिए लाखों की संख्या में भक्तों ने बिना किसी रोकटोक, बिना किसी डर के डुबकी लगाई. इंडिया टीवी के संवाददाता भक्तों की भीड़ में पूरे भारत के लोगों से मिले, कोई कर्नाटक, कोई केरल, कोई हिमाचल, तो कोई असम से पूरे परिवार के साथ आया था. मकसद था, मौनी अमावस्या पर संगम में डुबकी लगाना था.
साधू संत हमेशा समाज को रास्ता दिखाते हैं. महाकुंभ में परंपरा को तोड़कर आम जनता को पहले अमृत स्नान का मौका देकर संतों ने आदर्श प्रस्तुत किया, इसके लिए आचार्यों, महामंडलेश्वरों, सभी साधू संतों का अभिनंदन होना चाहिए. लेकिन दुख की बात ये है कि राजनीतिक दलों के नेताओं ने इस दुखद हादसे को राजनीति का मुद्दा बनाया. हादसे की ख़बर आते ही समाजवादी पार्टी और कांग्रेस समेत तमाम विपक्षी दलों ने योगी पर हमला बोल दिया. अखिलेश यादव, राहुल गांधी, मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे, प्रियंका गांधी, मायावती, शरद पवार की पार्टी और उद्धव ठाकरे की शिवसेना ने इस हादसे के लिए योगी सरकार को कोसा. अखिलेश यादव ने महाकुंभ का प्रबंध सेना को सौंपने की मांग की. राहुल गांधी ने कहा कि VIP के जाने पर रोक लगे.
ज्यादातर नेताओं का ये कहना है कि ये हादसा इसीलिए हुआ कि सारा प्रशासन VIPs की आवभगत में लगा था. ये कहना आसान है और लोग इसपर आसानी से विश्वास भी कर लेंगे क्योंकि लोगों ने कुंभ नगरी में VVIPs को बड़े आराम से स्नान करते हुए देखा, उनके वीडियो वायरल हुए, लेकिन रात को जो दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण घटना हुई, उसे VIP सिंड्रोम से जोड़ना गलत होगा.
मौनी अमावस्या के स्नान के अवसर पर VIP मूवमेंट पर पूरी तरह प्रतिबंध लगा दिया गया था. अमृत स्नान के अवसर पर सारे VIP पास कैंसिल कर दिए गए थे और ये व्यवस्था, ये परंपरा बहुत पुरानी है.
जानकारों ने बताया कि 1954 में जब पंडित जवाहर लाल नेहरु प्रधानमंत्री थे, वो शाही स्नान के दिन कुंभ में डुबकी लगाने गए थे. उस समय हुई भगदड़ में करीब एक हजार लोग हताहत हुए थे. उसी समय ये नियम बना कि शाही स्नान वाले दिन VIP मूवमेंट पर बैन होगा. लेकिन ये इतिहास, ये स्पष्टीकरण राजनीति के लिए है.
ये बातें उन लोगों के किसी काम के नहीं जिन्होंने इस हादसे में अपनों को खोया है. हम तो ऐसे लोगों के प्रति संवेदना व्यक्त कर सकते हैं. घायल लोगों के जल्दी स्वस्थ होने की कामना कर सकते हैं. सरकार को और अधिक सावधानी से प्रबंध करने की अपील कर सकते हैं. मां गंगा से प्रार्थना कर सकते हैं कि अपने भक्तों को इस दुख को सहन करने की शक्ति प्रदान करें.
Maha Kumbh stampede: Did this happen because of VIP culture?
More than 10 crore devotees took a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh in Sangam, but the joie de vivre was marred by a post-midnight tragedy, when hordes of people trampled on devotees sleeping on the ground after breaking police barricades. Thirty people died and more than 60 people were injured. 36 of those injured are undergoing treatment in hospital.
UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who had been toiling hard for the last several months to make the Maha Kumbh a grand success, appeared before media with his eyes full of tears. Police and health workers acted promptly, called in ambulances and created a green corridor to take those injured to the hospital.
The tragedy is indeed saddening. Yogi was in the control room post-midnight, taking updates as contours of the tragedy unfolded. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Yogi four times over the phone and took updates. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw arranged special trains for ferrying the devotees who had taken a dip in Sangam.
For the first time, the major ‘akhadas’ of sadhus decided to allow commoners to take a dip first and then took their holy dip called ‘Amrit Snan’. Lakhs of devotees were meanwhile stranded in Varanasi, Jaunpur, Pratpgarh, Fatehpur and other towns of UP, since entry of vehicles into Prayagraj was prohibited in view of the huge influx.
A three-member judicial inquiry commission has been set up to probe the circumstances leading to the stampede. It will be headed by Justice Harsh Kumar, former Director General of Police V K Gupta and retired IAS officer DK Singh.
This tragedy that took place on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya is really heart wrenching. The issue is not the number of people who died or were injured in the crush. A single devotee losing his life is saddening.
It is a fact that a large number of devotees had reached the Sangam before the auspicious time, in order to be the first to take the holy dip. Most of them were sleeping on the ground near Sangam when the stampede took place. Those who broke the police barriers and ran towards the Sangam, did not bother that they were trampling on other pilgrims who were sleeping.
I consider this a serious lapse on part of the administration. It failed to anticipate such a situation. CCTV cameras were working, drones were available, thousands of policemen had been deployed, Special Task Force, National Disaster Response Force, National Security Guards were available, but nobody anticipated such a situation. But to say that the stampede took place because of mismanagement will be doing an injustice to the thousands of policemen and personnel who worked day and night at the Maha Kumbh.
Crores of pilgrims from all over the country descended for Maha Kumbh after watching media reports about massive preparations made for providing sleeping areas, clean toilets, medicines and hospitals. Nobody imagined that good arrangements could create a different type of problem.
Those who took a holy dip at Sangam, stayed put in the Maha Kumbh area, unwilling to leave immediately. They wanted to watch the famous processions of Sadhus, Shankaracharyas, particularly Naga ascetics, going for their bath at the Sangam. They had smart phones with them, ready to record the visuals of sadhus taking their bath.
It was only then that the authorities realized that controlling the pilgrims could become difficult. Barricades were broken and the crowds trampled upon sleeping devotees.
I would like to praise the shankaracharyas and mahamandaleshwars present at Maha Kumbh, who issued videos at night, appealing to people to take their holy dip at any bathing ghat of river Ganga, and refrain from congregating at the Sangam. Secondly, the shankaracharyas decided to delay their bathing procession due to the midnight stampede and allowed common people to take their dip first.
The quick arrangements made by Yogi Adityanath, coupled with close coordination between the Centre and state authorities, showed results on the ground immediately. The enthusiasm and fervour among the lakhs of devotees returned. Since the ‘akhadas’ of sadhus had delayed their bathing procession, lakhs of people went up to the Sangam and took their holy dip, without any fear.
India TV reporters met people from as far away as Karnataka, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Assam, who had come with their families for the holy dip on Mauni Amavasya.
It was a beautiful sight with shankaracharyas, acharyas, maha mandaleshwars and other sadhus performing their “Amrit Snan” after the crowd of devotees had left. All of us should congratulate them for displaying sagacity in handling the situation.
On the other hand, leaders from the opposition, as is their wont, tried to make the stampede a political issue. Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mayawati and leaders from Sharad Pawar’s NCP and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena criticized Yogi government for the tragedy.
Most of the political leaders alleged that the tragedy could have been avoided, if local authorities were not preoccupied because of what they called, “VIP culture”. Naturally, people who saw VVIPs taking their bath at Sangam with ease, will believe this. But, to link the midnight tragedy with the VIP syndrome will not be correct.
There was a complete ban on VIP movement during Mauni Amavasya and all VIP passes for Mauni Amavasya had been cancelled. This is an old protocol.
Experts recalled when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was Prime Minister in 1954, nearly 1,000 people lost their lives in a big stampede on the day of “Shahi Snan”. Soon after that tragedy 71 years ago, a protocol was enforced according to which no VIP movement would be allowed on “Shahi Snan” day at the Kumbh Mela. Anyway, such a historical background and explanation can now be termed as political. It has nothing to do with those families who have lost their near and dear ones.
We can only hope that the injured devotees recover soon. We can only appeal to the government to be more careful while making arrangements. We can pray to Maa Ganga to give strength to the devotees for bearing their loss.
Maha Kumbh stampede : Need for greater caution, care and restraint
The stampede that took place at Maha Kumbh past midnight in Prayagraj is really saddening and unfortunate. My deepest condolences to the families of those who died and my prayers for early recovery of those who were injured. I expect the local administration to be more careful considering the huge influx of pilgrims. I also appeal to the devotees to practise constraint while going to take the holy dip.
Sadhus of different ‘akhadas’ who were waiting for the holy dip on Wednesday morning because of the stampede, have started their ‘Amrit Snan’ by noon. The situation is now normal and under control. Rapid Action Force has been deployed to beef up security.
Last night, I had mentioned in my primetime show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ that the arrangements at the Kumbh Mela area was under stress because of influx of more than 5 crore pilgrims. The number of pilgrims who came to Maha Kumbh crossed 18 crores in the last 16 days. Imagine the population right now in Prayagraj, compared to the populations of some of the most populated cities of the world like Tokyo, Delhi and Shanghai.
Since, it was Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday, pilgrims started marching towards the Sangam point in large numbers after midnight and the barriers broke down. The crowd became unmanageable. The overworked police force was finding it difficult to control the crowds breaking through the barriers.
Devotees had come from the North, South, East and Western parts of India, from places like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bengal, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Imagine the stress that the organizers were going through because of this influx.
The enthusiasm among the devotees was electrifying on Tuesday. Entire families consisting of four generations had come to Prayagraj to take the holy dip. From some states, people from an entire village or a locality had come. The authorities had put signages in every sector, each pillar was numbered, and announcements were being made for those who were lost. Volunteers were deployed at a distance of 100 metres throughout the Mela area. Lost and found centres were working in 10 sectors so that those who lost their way could reunite with their families.
There are three main reasons behind this huge influx. One, the level of devotion and enthusiasm among the pilgrims; Two, videos and images on TV and social media, of people coming to Maha Kumbh for the last two weeks, acted as a big influencing factor; and Three, since the Maha Kumbh was taking place after a gap of 144 years, most of the devotees felt that they might not get another chance in their lifetime to take part in the biggest religious congregation of the century.
Normally, it is presumed that the younger generation does not have much interest in religion, but the videos and images of Maha Kumbh belie this theory. There is a craze among youths for taking part in Maha Kumbh. College girls in small groups, youths with backpacks studying IT, engineering, medical and management course have reached Prayagraj for the holy dip. Most of the youths are carrying smartphones and posting their videos on social media.
It is true that the administration had no inkling about the huge influx that was going to take place on the eve of Mauni Amavasya. Several buses, trains and vehicles had to be stopped away from Prayagraj town. Lakhs of people had to walk several kilometres to reach the bathing ghats.
In the middle of this huge influx, devotees walking for several kilometres due to barriers, get irritated when they see VIP vehicles with police escorts, with hooters blaring, making their way through the crowds. Such a reaction comes naturally. My suggestion is: authorities should curb the number of VIP vehicles entering the Kumbh Mela area for a few days so that the crowds melt away after some days.
महाकुंभ में भगदड़ : अधिक सतर्कता, सावधानी, संयम की ज़रूरत
महाकुंभ में कल रात जो हादसा हुआ, वह दुखद है. कई लोगों की जानें गई, उनके परिजनों के प्रति मेरी गहरी संवेदना है. काफी लोग घायल हुए, उनके जल्द स्वस्थ होने की कामना करता हूं. मेरी अपेक्षा है कि प्रशासन और अधिक सर्तकता और सावधानी बरतें. मेरा भक्तों से निवेदन है कि वे सभी संयम बरतें. माँ गंगा सबकी रक्षा करें, यही मेरी प्रार्थना है.
कल रात मैने अपने शो ‘आज की बात’ में बताया था कि कैसे श्रद्धालुओं की आस्था के सामने दुनिया की हर बाधा नाकाम हो गई. मौनी अमावस्या से एक दिन पहले पांच करोड़ से ज्यादा लोग प्रयागराज पहुंच गए. मंगलवार को शाम तक साढ़े चार करोड़ से ज्यादा लोगों ने संगम में डुबकी लगाई. सोलह दिन में अट्ठारह करोड़ से ज्यादा लोग महाकुंभ में पहुंच चुके हैं. मौनी अमावस्या के दिन सारे रिकॉर्ड टूटने की उम्मीद है.
महाकुंभनगर में चार करोड़ 64 लाख से ज्यादा श्रद्धालु मंगलवार तक पहुंच चुके थे. साढ़े चार करोड़ से ज्यादा भक्तों ने मंगलवार को संगम में स्नान किया. महाकुंभनगर की आबादी इस समय दुनिया के सबसे ज्यादा आबादी वाले शहर टोक्यो, दिल्ली और शंघाई से भी ज्यादा है. अगर प्रयागराज की करीब 70 लाख की आबादी को इसमें जोड़ दिया जाए तो इस वक्त प्रयागराज में छह करोड़ से ज्यादा लोग हैं और अगले 24 घंटे में ये संख्या 8 से 10 करोड़ तक पहुंचने की उम्मीद है.
सरकार ने तैयारियां तो इसी हिसाब से की हैं, लेकिन भक्तों के जोश के सामने सारी तैयारियां कम लग रही हैं. सबसे बड़ी दिक्कत ये है कि गाड़ियों को शहर के बाहर रोका गया है, इसलिए लोगों को काफी पैदल चलना पड़ रहा है. फिर भी किसी के चेहरे पर न शिकन है, न थकान है. महाकुंभ में बच्चे-बुजुर्ग, नौजवान, पुरूष, महिलाएं, गरीब, अमीर, शहर के और गांव के, हर उम्र के, हर वर्ग के लोग पहुंचे हैं.
देश का कोई कोना ऐसा नहीं है, जहां के लोग महाकुंभ में न पहुंचे हों. उत्तर से लेकर दक्षिण, पूर्व से लेकर पश्चिम तक, यूपी, मध्य प्रदेश और बिहार तो छोड़िए, महाराष्ट्र, गुजरात, बंगाल, उत्तराखंड, हिमाचल प्रदेश, जम्मू-कश्मीर, तमिलनाडु, आन्ध्र प्रदेश और केरल तक के लोग महाकुंभ में आस्था की डुबकी लगाने पहुंचे हैं. कोई पहली बार आया है, कोई दूसरी बार, लेकिन सब ये कह रहे हैं कि ये महाकुंभ तो पहली बार आया है और अब 144 साल बाद ही आएगा. इसलिए वे त्रिवेणी में डुबकी लगाने का ये मौका छोड़ना नहीं चाहते.
महाकुंभ में जो भीड़ उमड़ रही है, उसके पीछे कई वजहें हैं. लेकिन तीन सबसे बड़ी वजहें हैं. पहली वजह, इस महापर्व को लेकर लोगों की आस्था है जो अटूट है. दूसरी वजह ये है कि पिछले 15 दिनों में लोगों ने महाकुंभ की जो तस्वीरें देखीं, जो इंतजामात देखे, टीवी पर जो तस्वीरें देखी हैं, उसके बाद लोगों का भरोसा मजबूत हो गया कि भले ही थोड़ा पैदल चलना पड़े लेकिन संगम स्नान में उन्हें कोई परेशानी नहीं होगी. तीसरी और सबसे बड़ी वजह है, तमाम लोगों को लगता है कि 144 साल बाद महाकुंभ का जो अमृत संयोग बना है, उसमें शामिल होने का मौका उन्हें अपनी ज़िंदगी में फिर नहीं मिलेगा. इसलिए लोग संगम में डुबकी लगाने के लिए खिंचे चले आ रहे हैं.
आमतौर पर माना जाता है कि नई पीढ़ी धर्म करम में ज्यादा दिलचस्पी नहीं लेती लेकिन महाकुंभ की तस्वीरों ने इस धारणा को भी गलत साबित कर दिया. नौजवानों के बीच महाकुंभ को लेकर अलग किस्म का उतावलापन है. पहली बार महाकुंभ में युवाओं की इतनी बड़ी संख्या नज़र आ रही है, जिसकी कोई कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकता. कॉलेज की छात्राएं छोटे छोटे ग्रुप्स में महाकुंभ में पहुंची हैं. IT, इंजीनियरिंग, मेडिकल और मैनेजमेंट की पढ़ाई करने वाले नौजवान बैकपैक लटकाकर कुंभ में डुबकी लगाने पहुंचे हैं. ज्यादातर नौजवानों के हाथ में कैमरा फोन है. हर कोई अपने वीडियो बनाकर सोशल मीडिया पर पोस्ट कर रहा है. मेट्रो शहरों में नौकरी करने वाले युवा भी आस्था की ऐसी आभा देखकर हैरान हैं.
ये सही है कि प्रशासन को अंदाजा नहीं था कि मौनी अमावस्या से पहले ही इतनी बड़ी संख्या में लोग कुंभ नगरी पहुंच जाएंगे. इतनी भीड़ के कारण यात्रियों की गाड़ियों को दूर ही रोकना पड़ा. इसीलिए लोगों को घाट तक पहुंचने के लिए काफी दूर पैदल चलना पड़ रहा है. चलते-चलते लोग जब कभी गाड़ियों के किसी काफिले को देखते हैं तो उन्हें बुरा लगता है, नाराज होते हैं. यह स्वाभाविक है. मेरा सुझाव है कि आने वाले कुछ दिनों के लिए वीआईपी गाड़ियों को बहुत कम, बहुत सीमित कर देना चाहिए.
महाकुंभ का फायदा: खरगे जाएं, डुबकी लगाएं
प्रयागराज के महाकुंभ में पहुंचने वाले श्रद्धालुओं की संख्या साढ़े तेरह करोड़ से ज्यादा हो गई है. दो दिन बाद मौनी अमावस्या है. 29 जनवरी को महाकुंभ में नौ करोड़ से ज्यादा श्रद्धालुओं के पहुंचने की संभावना है. सरकार ने 12 करोड़ श्रद्धालुओं के हिसाब से इंतजाम किए हैं.
उधर, कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे ने सबकी आस्था और श्रद्धा पर सवाल उठा दिया. खर्गे ने पूछा कि महाकुंभ में डुबकी लगाने से क्या गरीबी दूर हो जाएगी? उन्होने आरोप लगाया कि धर्म के नाम पर गरीबों को लूटा जा रहा है. खरगे ने कहा कि अमित शाह कितनी भी डुबकी लगा लें,इनका भला नहीं होने वाला.
खरगे मध्य प्रदेश में डॉ. बी.आर.आम्बेडकर के जन्मस्थान महू में एक रैली को संबोधित कर रहे थे. उस समय मंच पर राहुल गांधी बैठे थे. खरगे ने कहा कि आजकल बीजेपी के नेताओं में संगम में डुबकी लगाने की प्रतियोगिता चल रही है. फोटो खिंचाने के लिए बीजेपी के नेता प्रयागराज की तरफ भाग रहे हैं.
मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे ने पूछा है कि क्या कुंभ में स्नान करने से गरीबी दूर होगी? इसका जवाब जानने के लिए उन्हें एक बार महा कुंभ जाना चाहिए. इसका जवाब उनको वो चाय वाला देगा, जो महाकुंभ में हर रोज 20 से 22 हजार रुपये कमा रहा है. इसका जवाब महाकुंभ में ठेले, खोमचे वाले, दुकानें लगाने वाले, रहने खाने का इंतजाम करने वाले देंगे.
जहां तक दूरगामी सोच का सवाल है, मैंने ये सवाल योगी आदित्यनाथ से पूछा था कि महाकुंभ पर करोड़ों रुपये खर्च करने का क्या फायदा होगा? योगी ने बताया था कि महाकुंभ के कारण उत्तर प्रदेश को दो लाख करोड़ रुपये का अतिरिक्त बिजनेस मिलेगा.
तीसरी बात ये कि खरगे ने संगम के स्नान पर सवाल उठाकर हिंदू समाज की भावनाओं पर चोट पहुंचाई है. मैंने महाकुंभ में आस्था का सैलाब देखा है. वहां अमीर गरीब में कोई फर्क नहीं है. वहां न किसी की जाति पूछी जाती है, न धर्म. संगम में डुबकी लगाकर पुण्य कमाने वाले ज्यादातर लोग साधारण परिवारों से आते हैं. उनमें गरीब भी हैं, मजदूर भी हैं, डॉक्टर भी हैं, इंजीनियर भी हैं.
चौथी बात ये कि खरगे ने सनातन पर सवाल उठाकर बीजेपी के नेताओं को ये पूछने का मौका दे दिया कि क्या वह कभी मुसलमानों से भी इसी तरह का सवाल पूछेंगे कि क्या हज की यात्रा करने से गरीबी दूर होती है.
खरगे सीनियर नेता हैं. उन्हें संगम में डुबकी लगाने वालों की आस्था और श्रद्धा पर सवाल उठाने की बजाय खुद एक बार महाकुंभ में जाकर देखना चाहिए कि हर रोज लाखों लोगों के लिए आने जाने का, रहने खाने का, साफ सफाई का, स्नान-ध्यान का प्रबंध कितनी कुशलता से किया गया है.
जिस महाकुंभ के आयोजन की पूरी दुनिया में प्रशंसा हो रही है, उस पर सवाल उठाने से पहले एक बार वहां उमड़ते उत्साह और उमंग को देखना चाहिए. संगम के स्नान पर सवाल उठाने की बजाय खरगे जी को भी संगम में जाकर डुबकी लगाना चाहिए. इस के लिए मौनी अमावस्या का अच्छा दिन रहेगा.
Benefits of Maha Kumbh : Kharge should go and take a dip
At a time when millions of devouts are taking a holy dip at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and invisible Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj on the auspicious occasion of Maha Kumbh, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stirred a hornets’ nest by telling a rally at Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s birthplace in Mhow, MP, that ” a dip in Ganga won’t end poverty”.
With Rahul Gandhi sitting on the dais and listening, Kharge said: “Will a holy dip in Ma Ganga remove poverty? Will a dip in Ganga make people happy and improve governance in our country? I do not understand why these people compete among themselves in spending money and taking a dip in the Ganga.”
Kharge said, “I do not intend to hurt the sentiments of people, but I would like to apologize if anyone’s feelings are hurt. But tell me, what good is it going to do? When children are starving, unable to attend schools, people to are competing with one another to take dip in the Ganga, and they won’t stop unless they get good visuals on television. These people are no good for the country. People are free to profess their faith in God. We don’t have a problem if people perform puja in their homes. But we have an issue when religion is used to exploit the poor. Let us oppose this.”
BJP was quick to react. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra described it as an insult to Sanatan Dharma and Mother Ganga. Patra asked, “Can Rahul, Sonia Gandhi and Kharge say the same thing about any other religion? Can they claim that by attending ‘iftaar’ parties, poverty will be removed and people will get jobs? Not only Kharge, but Rahul and Sonia Gandhi must apologize to the people for hurting their sentiments.”
I think, since Kharge has linked the issue of poverty with Kumbh Snan, it would be better if he visits the Kumbh once. He will get his reply from the ‘chaiwallah’ (tea seller) who is earning Rs 20-22 thousand daily at the Mela. He should ask the thousands of hawkers, shopkeepers and tent arrangers about their daily earnings.
As far as the long-term vision is concerned, I had asked UP CM Yogi Adityanath in my show the reason behind the splurge of more than Rs 7500 crores for the Maha Kumbh. Yogi replied that the Maha Kumbh Mela would generate Rs 2 lakh crore worth business for the people of Uttar Pradesh.
Thirdly, Kharge has hurt the feelings of Hindus by questioning the necessity of taking a holy dip at the Kumbh. I have seen with my own eyes the surge of lakhs of devotees marching towards the Sangam and the other bathing ghats. There was no difference between the affluent and the poor among the streams of believers. Nobody is asking anybody his caste or religion. Most of the people who come to Sangam for a holy dip hail from ordinary families. They range from the farmers and labourers to well-read people like doctors and engineers.
Fourthly, Kharge, by raising this issue, has given a handle to BJP leaders to raise similar questions. BJP leaders are asking, whether Kharge has the courage to ask the same questions of Muslims. Whether poverty will be removed by performing Haj pilgrimage or arranging iftaar?
Kharge is a senior and experienced political leader. Instead of raising questions about the faith and devotion of Maha Kumbh devotees, he should himself visit Prayagraj and see with his own eyes the massive arrangements made for prayers, meditation, accomodation, food and transport for lakhs of devotees who go there daily. This has earned accolades from across the globe.
Instead of questioning the Maha Kumbh Snan, Kharge should try to get the feel of enthusiasm among the devotees. I think, it would be better, if Kharge visits Maha Kumbh and take a holy dip at Sangam on Mauni Amavasya (January 29), an auspicious day.
Beggary : Law is no solution, give skill training to beggars
In an interesting piece of news, Madhya Pradesh Police has filed two FIRs, one against a female beggar and another against an unidentified person for giving alms to the beggar in the city of Indore.
The case was registered under Section 223 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which provides for punishment upto one year in jail and/or fine upto Rs 5,000 against persons disobeying the order issued by a public servant.
The district collector had issued orders to file criminal cases against those involved in begging and also against those giving alms to beggars. The FIRs were filed on the basis of a complaint filed by Indore’s Beggary Eradication Team.
This follows a pilot project of Union Social Justice Ministry being implemented to make 10 cities of India, including Indore, “beggar-free”. Indore has earned laurels as India’s cleanest city in surveys conducted during the last several years.
Authorities in Indore had conducted awareness campaign asking beggars not to beg in public, and advising people not to give alms to beggars. The city authorities have even offered to give Rs 1,000 reward to anyone giving tip-off about beggars taking alms in the city.
It is a fact that nobody likes to watch beggars begging in public, but over the decades, beggary has become a profession. In some cities, some big gangs employ beggars to beg for alms at main traffic intersections and other popular hangouts.
The government’s aim is to eliminate such nefarious gangs, but one must remember: It is easier to make laws but difficult to enforce them. Identifying beggars, and collecting evidences of beggars is a tough task for police. Moreover, it is difficult to prepare a case against persons on charge of begging.
Secondly, there is an emotional aspect involved. Normally, citizens have sympathy for those seeking alms, and offering Rs 1,000 reward for giving tip-off about beggars is nothing but a mockery. None will complain if police takes action against gangs involved in beggary and throwing them into prison, but people at large will not be happy if poor and helpless old people begging for alms are thrown into prison.
The solution is not in making law or throwing people into jail. Social organizations should be brought in to provide training in small trade skills to beggars so that they can at least earn their livelihood. That would be a better option.
भिक्षा उन्मूलन : सिर्फ कानून से काम नहीं चलेगा, भिखारियों को काम सिखाना होगा
मध्य प्रदेश के इंदौर में भीख मंगवाने के जुर्म में एक भिखारी के खिलाफ FIR दर्ज की गई और भीख देने के जुर्म में एक शख्स के खिलाफ केस दर्ज किया गया.
दरअसल केन्द्र सरकार के सामाजिक न्याय मंत्रालय ने देश के दस शहरों को भिखारियों से मुक्त करने का पायलट प्रोजेक्ट शुरू किया है. इंदौर भी इसमें शामिल है. इंदौर प्रशासन अब शहर को भिखारियों से मुक्त करने की मुहिम में लगा है. भिखारियों को पकड़कर उन्हें समझाया जा रहा है, चौराहों पर लोगों से भीख न देने की घोषणा की जा रही है. लोगों को बताया जा रहा है कि भीख मांगना और भीख देना दोनों जुर्म है.
इस अपराध के लिए एक साल तक जेल और पांच हजार रूपए तक का जुर्माना हो सकता है. चूंकि पुलिस की अपील का ज्यादा असर नहीं दिख रहा था, इसलिए पुलिस ने कार्रवाई शुरु की.
इंदौर के भंवर कुआं थाने में एक युवा के खिलाफ भीख देने का केस दर्ज किया है. इंदौर ज़िला प्रशासन ने भीख मांगने या भीख देने वालों की जानकारी देने पर लोगों को एक हज़ार रुपए इनाम देने का भी एलान किया है.
ये बात सही है कि न तो किसी को भिखारियों को देखना अच्छा लगता है और न किसी को भीख मांगना अच्छा लगता है, लेकिन अब भीख मांगना पेशा हो गया है. इसके पीछे बड़े बड़े गिरोह काम करते हैं. इसलिए सरकार का मकसद तो इन गिरोहों को खत्म करना है, लेकिन इस तरह के कानून बनाना जितना आसान होता है, उन्हें ज़मीनी स्तर पर लागू करना उतना ही मुश्किल.
भिखारियों की पहचान करना, उनके खिलाफ भीख मांगने के सबूत इकट्ठे करना कठिन काम है. भीख देने वालों को पकड़ना, उनके खिलाफ केस बनाना तो और भी मुश्किल है.
दूसरी तरफ इसका एक भावनात्मक पहलू भी है. आम तौर पर लोगों की हमदर्दी भीख मांगने वालों के साथ होती है. इसीलिए ये उम्मीद करना कि भीख मांगने वालों की जानकारी देने के लिए लोगों को एक हजार रुपये का इनाम देने से काम हो जाएगा, मजाक लगता है.
अपराधियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई हो, उन्हें जेल में डाला जाए तो किसी को कोई शिकायत नहीं होगी, पर किसी गरीब को, किसी बेबस को जेल में डाला जाए, इससे लोग खुश नहीं होंगे.
इस समस्या का समाधान कानून से या जेल से नहीं हो सकता. इसके लिए सामाजिक संगठनों को इस अभियान में शामिल करके भीख मांगने वालों को किसी काम में लगाएं तो बेहतर होगा. भीख मांगने वालों को ऐसे काम करने के लिए प्रशिक्षण देना होगा, जिससे उन्हें जीवन यापन के लिए कमाने का अवसर मिले और उन्हें भीख न मांगनी पड़े.
महाकुंभ : अद्भुत, अविश्वसनीय, अकल्पनीय
बुधवार को मुझे महाकुंभ में जाने का अवसर मिला. मैंने योगी आदित्यनाथ के साथ गंगा किनारे एक बड़ा शो रिकॉर्ड किया. महाकुंभ से जुड़े जितने भी विवाद हैं, जिज्ञासाएं हैं, उन सब पर सवाल पूछे. क्या संगम का जल नहाने लायक है? क्या वाकई एक हफ्ते में 9 करोड़ से ज्यादा लोग वहां पहुंचे? लोगों की गिनती कैसे हुई? इतने सारे लोगों के लिए भोजन का क्या इंतजाम है? मेला क्षेत्र में साफ-सफाई का कैसे ध्यान रखा जा रहा है? क्या महाकुंभ पर इस बार साढ़े 7 हजार करोड़ रुपये का खर्चा होगा? इतना खर्चा करके उत्तर प्रदेश को क्या हासिल होगा?
कुछ सवाल राजनीतिक भी थे. जैसे महाकुंभ में कैबिनेट की बैठक करने की क्या आवश्यकता थी? क्या महाकुंभ में मुसलमानों के प्रवेश पर पाबंदी है? क्या यहां भी ‘बंटोगे तो कटोगे’ का नारा सुनाई देता है? योगी आदित्यनाथ ने किसी सवाल को नहीं टाला. हर सवाल का खुलकर जवाब दिया. सामने हजारों की तादाद में जनता थी और लोग योगी को देखकर बहुत जोश में थे. लेकिन बहुत दूर खड़े थे. पुलिस ने बैरिकेड लगा दिए थे.
जब मैंने स्टेज से देखा कि लोग दूर से नारे लगा रहे हैं, हाथ हिला रहे हैं, तो मैंने योगी जी से अनुरोध किया कि वह पुलिस से कहें कि इन लोगों को करीब आने दें. योगी ने तुरंत कहा, सब को आने दो, और फिर हजारों लोग दौड़ते हुए जब इस शो में पहुंचे तो वो नज़ारा देखने लायक था. चारों तरफ ‘जय श्री राम’ के नारे गूंजने लगे. ‘हर-हर महादेव’ की हुंकार सुनाई दी.
ये पूरा शो शनिवार को इंडिया टीवी पर प्रसारित किया जाएगा. इसका एक सवाल और एक जवाब आपको मैंने उदाहरण के तौर पर गुरुवार रात ‘आज की बात’ शो में दिखाया. इससे आपको अंदाजा होगा कि ये कितना बड़ा शो है जनता इससे किस कदर जुड़ी थी और कैसे योगी आदित्यनाथ ने करारे जवाब दिए.
मैं कुंभ नगरी में कुछ ही घंटे रुक पाया लेकिन इस दौरान जो देखा, वो अद्भुत था. पूरे रास्ते में चारों तरफ पॉन्टूंन पुलों पर हजारों लोग चलते जा रहे थे, चलते जा रहे थे. यहां बहुत सीमति वाहनों को प्रवेश की अनुमति थी. इसीलिए लोगों को घाट तक पहुंचने के लिए पैदल चलना पड़ता है. कोई बैकपैक्स लेकर, तो कोई सामान सिर पर उठा कर चल रहा था. पर कोई परेशान नहीं दिखा. लोग खुश थे. जगह-जगह भंडारे लगे थे. लोग रुककर खाना खा रहे थे. और फिर भजन गाते हुए चल पड़ते थे.
रास्ते में कहीं नट का खेल दिखाई दिया, रस्सी पर चलती लड़की दिखाई दी. कहीं प्रवचन देते बाबा दिखाई दिए. रेहड़ी, ठेले और खोमचे वालों की खूब कमाई हो रही थी. किसी ने मुझे बताया कि एक चायवाला दिन में 20 से 22 हजार रुपये कमा लेता है. ठहरने के लिए 100 रुपये का बिस्तर भी मिल जाता है और एक लाख रुपये का लग्जरी टेंट भी है, पर हर चीज़ का इंतजाम perfect था.
सबसे ज्यादा आश्चर्य मुझे यूपी पुलिस के बारे में सुनकर हुआ. लोगों ने बताया, पुलिस दोस्त बन कर मदद कर रही है. अगर कहीं रोकती है तो अनुरोध करती है. पुलिस को इतने प्यार से बात करते देखकर लोग भी हैरान थे. जो लोग ट्रेन से प्रयागराज पहुंच रहे थे, उन लोगों ने मुझे बताया कि भारी तादाद में लोग रेलवे से यात्रा कर रहे हैं लेकिन रेलवे स्टेशन बिल्कुल साफ सुथरा है. रेलवे स्टेशनों पर पुलिस वाले तैनात हैं . जिनके मोबाइल में एप है, उस एप के ज़रिए वो यात्रियों को बताते हैं कि उनकी ट्रेन कितने बजे आएगी कौन से प्लेटफॉर्म पर आएगी. रेलवे स्टेशन पर पुलिस के लोग खासतौर से बूढ़े लोगों को धक्का-मुक्की से बचाते हुए दिखाई दिए.
पुलिस का ये रूप बहुत कम देखने को मिलता है. यूपी पुलिस के DGP ने मुझे बताया कि लोगों से प्यार से बर्ताव करने के लिए पुलिस वालों को 6 महीने की ट्रेनिंग दी गई. मेरे show में योगी ने भी पुलिस की प्रशंसा की.
मुझे लगता है कि कुंभ में जाए बिना इस बात का एहसास नहीं हो सकता कि काम कितना बड़ा है और इसे कितनी कुशलता के साथ किया जा रहा है. सबसे ज्यादा उत्साह महाकुंभ में आने वाले साधु संतों मे नज़र आया. टीवी पर उनके प्रवचन से लेकर अलग-अलग रूप दिखाए जा रहे हैं. कोई हाथ उठाए हुए, कोई धूनी रमाये हुए, किसी किसी ने तो चिमटा भी चला दिया. सबसे ज्यादा क्रेज़ नागा साधुओं को लेकर है. एक संत ने मुझसे कहा कि आप जैसे मीडिया के लोगों ने कुंभ की महिमा को घर-घर पहुंचा दिया. महाकुंभ को ग्लैमराइज कर दिया. इसीलिए इतनी बड़ी संख्या में लोग आ रहे हैं.
महाकुंभ के आयोजन के लिए योगी हर दूसरे दिन वहां पहुंच जाते हैं. बुधवार को तो उनकी पूरी कैबिनेट उनके साथ थी. कैबिनेट बैठक के बाद ही वो मेरे शो के लिए संगम घाट पर आए थे.
Maha Kumbh : Yogi’s wonderful planning and management
I had the opportunity to visit the Maha Kumbh Mela at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, where I recorded a special TV show with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. I asked questions relating to all issues that have been raised about Maha Kumbh.
The questions ranged from whether the water at Sangam was fit for bathing and drinking, the mode of measurement of the crowds that led to the claim that more than 9 crore pilgrims visited Maha Kumbh in the first week, the arrangements that were made for their food, hygiene and cleanliness.
There was also a question on how much UP would gain from religious tourism by spending Rs 7,500 crore on Maha Kumbh. There were some political questions too, like what was the need to convene a full-fledged Cabinet meeting at Maha Kumbh, whether entry of Muslims to the Kumbh Mela area has been banned, whether his ‘Bantogey Toh Katogey’ slogan was raised at the Mela?
Yogi Adityanath did not evade any question. He replied to each question, clearly and succinctly. There were several thousand people watching him speak. The audience was highly enthusiastic. Earlier, police had set up barricades to stop people from approaching the TV stage. When I saw from the stage, people shouting slogans and waving hands from a distance, I requested Yogi to ask police to allow people to come nearer. Yogi immediately responded and asked police to allow people to come nearer.
The response was electrifying. Several thousand people began running towards the TV discussion area, shouting slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Har Har Mahadev’. The entire show with Yogi Adityanath will be telecast on India TV on Republic Day eve, Saturday (January 25) at 10 pm.
In my ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ show on Thursday night, I showed a question-answer sample. By watching it, you can have a fair glimpse of how the common public was involved in the TV discussion. Yogi Adityanath’s replies were emphatic. Due to time constraints, I could stay at the Kumbh township only for a few hours, but the zeal and energy level of pilgrims was astonishing and unique.
From all directions, thousands of people were walking long distances to reach the pontoon bridges to take a dip at the Sangam, considered the holiest place on Earth during Maha Kumbh Mela. Only a limited number of vehicles were allowed to enter and most of the people were walking continuously in the direction of the bathing ghats. Some carrying backpacks, some carrying loads on their heads, but most of them were nonchalant. Most of the pilgrims looked happy.
At several places, ‘bhandara’ (free kitchens) were arranged for providing food to the pilgrims. The rest were singings bhajans as they marched towards the ghats.
At some places, those from the ‘nat’ (traditional acrobats) community were holding their shows, with a girl walking on a tight rope. At some places, babas with hairlocks on their heads were giving ‘pravachan’ (sermons) to the devouts listening attentively. Shopkeepers selling goods on ‘rehdi, thela, khomcha’ (handcarts) were doing good business. Somebody told me ‘chaiwallahs’ were earning as much as Rs 20-22 thousand a day at the Mela, while beds were available for Rs 100 for a single night. Those who could afford were staying in luxury tents paying up to Rs one lakh.
Overall, the arrangements were foolproof. From common people, I was surprised to hear praises for UP police. Most of them were saying that the police were helping them as friends. Lakhs of people were visiting Prayagraj in trains. The station was kept clean and policemen were deployed to keep a close watch. Those having apps on their mobile phones were told when their trains would leave, and when a train would arrive at the platform. Policemen were seen helping the aged from being pushed around in the melee. The director general of UP Police told me that police personnel were given training for six months on how to deal with the crowds patiently and in a friendly manner. In my TV show, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth praised his police.
You can gauge the vast magnitude of work that was put in efficiently, only when you visit the Maha Kumbh. The most happy ones were the sadhus and other ascetics. Their sermons were being shown on TV and other platforms. Some holding their arms high, some sitting cross-legged in front of a fire, some using ‘chimtas’ (iron tongs) to ward off pesky people. The crowd was crazy to see Naga sadhus, who do not wear even a loincloth and perform their penance under hard conditions.
A sadhu told me that it was the media which was taken the electrifying spirituality of the Maha Kumbh to each and every home in India, by adding a touch of glamour. This was the reason why people, in millions, are visiting Maha Kumbh daily.
Yogi Adityanath himself is doing a hands-on job. He has been visiting the Kumbh almost every other day. On Wednesday, he was there with his contingent of 54 cabinet ministers, and all of them took a holy dip at the Sangam. It was only after Yogi and his ministers took their holy dip, that the chief minister came to join my TV show.
