कांग्रेस का संकट : बड़े नेता पार्टी क्यों छोड़ रहे हैं ?
सियासत के मैदान में एक बार फिर राम का नाम आया. प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने कहा कि कांग्रेस नहीं चाहती थी राम मंदिर बने लेकिन मंदिर बनकर तैयार है, लाखों भक्त रोज रामलला के दर्शन कर रहे हैं, अब हालात ये है कि राम के अस्तित्व को नकारने वाले भी राम राम जप रहे हैं लेकिन राहुल गांधी ने राम मंदिर के बारे में बिल्कुल दूसरी तरह की बात की. राहुल ने कहा कि गरीब, दलित, आदिवासी, पिछड़े, हर जगह जय श्रीराम, जय श्रीराम चिल्लाते रहते हैं, क्या नारा लगाने से रोजगार मिलेगा? क्या नारा लगाने से रोटी मिलेगी? राहुल ने कहा कि लोगों ने अयोध्या में प्राण प्रतिष्ठा का समारोह देखा था,वहां बड़े बड़े लोग थे, कोई गरीब नहीं था. मोदी के रामराज में गरीबों के लिए कोई जगह नहीं है. राहुल गांधी के इस बयान को बीजेपी ने बड़ा इश्यू बना दिया क्योंकि राहुल गांधी ने इसी तरह की बात इससे पहले कोरबा में भी कही थी. प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने भी कहा कि कांग्रेस की इतनी दयनीय हालत इससे पहले कभी नहीं थी, अब सहयोगी दलों को तो छोड़िए कांग्रेस के अपने नेता भी पार्टी छोड़ छोड़कर जा रहे हैं. मोदी की इस बात पर कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे ने मुहर लगा दी. खरगे ने महाराष्ट्र में कांग्रेस के कार्यकर्ताओं से कहा कि बड़ी मुसीबत है, क्या कहें, समझ में नहीं आता, पार्टी ने जिनको सबकुछ दिया, वो भी ऐन मौके पर धोखा दे रहे हैं, पार्टी छोड़ रहे हैं. इस पर अशोक चव्हाण ने बता दिया कि उन्होंने कांग्रेस क्यों छोड़ी. अशोक चव्हाण ने कहा कि वो कभी पार्टी की कृपा से राजनीति में आगे नहीं बढ़े, जनता ने उन्हें चुनकर भेजा, चव्हाण ने कहा कि दिक्कत ये है कि कांग्रेस ने जमीन पर काम करने वाले कार्यकर्ता बचे नहीं हैं, जो बचे हैं, उनकी सुनने वाला कोई नहीं हैं, महाराष्ट्र के कई जिलों में कांग्रेस के चुनाव लड़ने वाले नेता नहीं हैं, टिकट मांगने वाला कोई नहीं हैं. उन्होंने पार्टी हाईकमान को ज़मीनी हालत बताई लेकिन उनकी सुनी नहीं गई, इसके बाद वो क्या करते. चव्हाण ने कहा कि अब ज्यादा वक्त नहीं हैं लेकिन फिर भी उनकी आलोचना करने के बजाय कांग्रेस के नेता पार्टी की हालत सुधारने पर फोकस करें, तो उनका भला हो सकता है. दिलचस्प बात ये है कि जो बात अशोक चव्हाण ने मुंबई में कही, वही बात दूसरे शब्दों में रेवाड़ी में प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने भी कही. मोदी ने कहा कि कांग्रेस इस वक्त सबसे बुरे दौर में हैं, कांग्रेस के नेता पार्टी छोड़ रहे हैं, कांग्रेस के साथी दल भी उसे छोडकर भाग रहे , इसकी एक ही वजह है, कांग्रेस एक ही परिवार के चक्र में फंसी है, एक नॉन स्टार्टर के स्टार्टअप को लॉंच में करने में लगी है. ये बात किसी से छुपी नहीं है कि पिछले कुछ वक्त में कांग्रेस के तमाम बड़े बड़े नेता पार्टी छोड़कर चले गए. जब से राहुल गांधी ने कांग्रेस की कमान संभाली तो पुराने जनाधार वाले नेता साइडलाइन हो गए. गुलाम नबी आजाद, कैप्टन अमरिन्दर सिंह, ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया, किरण ऱेड्डी, जितिन प्रसाद, विजय बहुगुणा, अशोक चव्हाण, मिलिंद देवड़ा, राव इन्द्रजीत सिंह, हिमंत विश्व शर्मा, पेमा खांडू……बहुत लंबी लिस्ट है, सब कांग्रेस छोड़ गए. कांग्रेस ने सबको चुका हुआ, धोखेबाज नेता बताया, लेकिन जिसने भी कांग्रेस छोड़ी उनमें से ज्यादातर ने राहुल गांधी की कार्यशैली को नाराजगी की वजह बताया. इसलिए अब कांग्रेस के नेताओं को इस बात पर आत्ममंथन करना चाहिए कि क्या इसके लिए मोदी जिम्मेदार हैं. लेकिन अशोक चव्हाण की ये बात सही है कि कांग्रेस के नेताओं को फिलहाल आत्म मंथन के लिए फुर्सत नहीं हैं क्योंकि उनका फोकस सिर्फ राहुल गांधी की यात्रा पर है भले ही इस यात्रा के चक्कर में सीट शेयरिंग में देर हो जिसके कारण सहयोगी भी कांग्रेस का साथ छोड़ रहे हैं. अब ज्यादातर राज्यों में तो एंटी- मोदी मोर्चा बिखर गया है. अब ले देकर सिर्फ बिहार में RJD ही कांग्रेस के साथ बची है.
CONGRESS CONUNDRUM : WHY ARE SENIOR LEADERS QUITTING?
The Ram temple issue figured in the speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday with both leaders taking potshots at each other. In his rally at Rewari, Haryana, Prime Minister Modi said, Congress leaders who used to describe Lord Ram as ‘imaginary’ are now chanting ‘Jai Siya Ram’, while in Chandauli, UP, Rahul Gandhi alleged that only billionaries and celebrities were invited to the Ram Temple consecration event in Ayodhya, and the poor people were kept out. Modi said, Congress is now in such a sorry state that not only alliance partners, but even their own leaders are deserting the party. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, during a video conferencing with Maharashtra party leaders, remarked on Friday that he was wondering why senior leaders whom the party had given so much, are now deserting the party. He was referring to former CM Ashok Chavan, who left Congress, joined BJP and got the ticket for Rajya Sabha. Replying to Kharge, Ashok Chavan said, it was the people who elected him and not the party leadership. Chavan said, most of the grassroot level workers have deserted the Congress, and in several districts of Maharashtra, they are unable to find even ticket seekers for the elections. Chavan claimed that he conveyed this to the Congress leadership but his views were not heard. What Ashok Chavan said is almost similar to what Narendra Modi said in his Rewari rally. Modi said, “Congress is caught in a one-family trap, and is only busy launching its non-starter startup (Rahul Gandhi).” The ground reality is: after Rahul Gandhi took over the reins of the party, old leaders having mass base have left the Congress. These include Ghulam Nabi Azad, Capt Amarinder Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiran Reddy, Jitin Prasada, Vijay Bahuguna, Ashok Chavan, Milind Deora, Rao Inderjit Singh, Rao Birender Singh, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Pema Khandu…the list is too long. The Congress described these leaders as spent cartridges and betrayers. The fact is, most of these leaders have described Rahul Gandhi’s whimsical style of working as the main reason for quitting the party. Congress should introspect whether Modi is responsible for the desertions by senior leaders. Ashok Chavan is right when he says that the party leadership has no time for introspection and it is solely focused on Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. It is because of this Yatra, that the party leadership is delaying seat-sharing talks with other partners, and its own party men are quitting. The anti-Modi front, for all practical purposes, is now over. Only in Bihar, the RJD is with the Congress. On Friday, Tejashwi Yadav joined Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra. RJD supremo Lalu Yadav is ailing. There was a time when thousands of people used to gather in Bihar to watch Lalu speak. Lalu knew how to feel the pulse of the people, but his health is deserting him. Watching Lalu speak in a soft voice makes one said. Lalu is no more active in politics, and this is Tejashwi Yadav’s biggest challenge. Congress may somewhat gain from RJD in Bihar, but there is little chance of the RJD gaining from this alliance.
किसान आंदोलन : क्या इसके पीछे सियासी मक़सद है ?
हरियाणा-पंजाब सीमा पर कई हज़ार किसान तकरीबन एक हज़ार ट्रैक्टर-ट्रॉली लेकर दो दिन से डेरा डाले हुए हैं. वे सभी दिल्ली जाना चाहते हैं. मंगलवार को पुलिस ने उन पर आंसू गैस के गोले छोड़े, रबड़ गोलियां चलाई और पानी की बौछारें डाली. किसानों ने ट्रैक्टर लेकर बैरीकेड तोड़ने की कोशिश की. झड़प में दोनों तरफ से दर्जनों घायल हुए. दिल्ली के चारों बॉर्डर सील हो चुके हैं. पंजाब-हरियाणा के बॉर्डर पर जबरदस्त टेंशन है. शंभू बॉर्डर पर किसानों ने पथराव किया जिसके कारण करीब दो दर्जन लोग घायल हुए. पुलिस की तरफ से भी आंसू गैल के गोले छोड़े गए. शंभू बॉर्डर पर दो हजार से ज्यादा जवान तैनात हैं. पुलिस के साथ साथ पैरामिलिट्री फोर्सेज को भी तैनात किया गया है. हालांकि सरकार ने किसान नेताओं से दो दौर की बात की है लेकिन कोई नतीजा नहीं निकला. किसान संगठन चाहते हैं कि सरकार तुंरत MSP गांरटी कानून लागू करे, किसान मजदूरों को पेंशन दी जाए, किसानों का सारा कर्ज तुंरत माफ किया जाए और सरकार विश्व व्यापार संगठन से बाहर आ जाय, पिछली बार आंदोलन के दौरान जिन किसानों के खिलाफ केस दर्ज हुए वो सब वापस लिए जाएं. इस तरह की करीब बारह मांगे हैं. सरकार ने किसानों की कुछ मांगे मान लीं, बाकी मांगों पर विचार के लिए कुछ वक्त मांगा लेकिन किसान वक्त देने को तैयार नहीं हैं. किसान किसी भी कीमत पर दिल्ली को घेरने पर आमादा हैं लेकिन सरकार ये नहीं होने देना चाहती. बस यही तकरार है. पंजाब हरिय़ाणा हाईकोर्ट ने सरकार से कहा कि किसानों के साथ सख्ती आखिरी विकल्प होना चाहिए और किसानों से कहा कि उन्हें सरकार के साथ बातचीत करके कोई रास्ता निकालना चाहिए. हालांकि किसान कह रहे हैं कि उनका आंदोलन शान्तिपूर्ण है, लेकिन सड़कों पर जो हो रहा है, वो हिंसा है. अब सवाल ये है कि किसानों को कौन भड़का रहा है? क्या किसान आंदोलन के पीछे सियासत है? ये सवाल इसलिए पूछे जा रहे हैं क्योंकि मंगलवार को जैसे ही किसानों ने उग्र रूप दिखाया, उसके तुंरत बाद राहुल गांधी, अखिलेश यादव, भूपेन्द्र हुड्डा, रणदीप सिंह सुरजेवाला, बृंदा करात से लेकर असदुद्दीन ओवैसी तक, सबने किसानों के कंधे पर बंदूक ऱखकर सरकार पर निशाना साधा. हरियाणा के गृह मंत्री अनिल विज ने गुप्तचर विभाग की रिपोर्ट का हवाला देते हुए कहा कि किसानों के पास डेढ़ हजार से ज्यादा ट्रैक्टर हैं जिनमें कम से कम आठ महीनों का राशन पानी हैं, टेंट्स है, रजाई, गद्दे हैं. किसान बात करके, आंदोलन करके, वापस जाने के मूड में नहीं हैं. अगर प्रदर्शनकारी दिल्ली तक पहुंच गए तो फिर वैसे ही महीनों तक जमे रहेंगे जैसे पिछली बार रास्ता बंद करके उन्होंने दिल्ली के बॉर्डर बंद कर दिए थे. इसीलिए सरकार की कोशिश है कि प्रदर्शनकारियों को दिल्ली पहुंचने से रोका जाए. इसीलिए केंद्रीय मंत्री पीयूष गोयल और अर्जुन मुंडा ने चंड़ीगढ़ जाकर किसान नेताओं से बात की. सरकार ने भी तैयारी पूरी की है. अगर किसी तरह किसान हरियाणा से होते हुए दिल्ली के आसपास पहुंच भी गए तो दिल्ली में न घुस पाएं इसके लिए भी इंतजाम किए गए हैं. दिल्ली के टीकरी बॉर्डर, सिंघू बॉर्डर और गाजीपुर बॉर्डर को सील किया गया है. पिछली बार किसान आंदोलन के दौरान भारत किसान यूनियन के राकेश टिकैत ने गाज़ीपुर बॉर्डर पर ही खूंटा गाड़ा था, इसलिए इस पर पुलिस किसी तरह के चांस नहीं लेना चाहती. यूपी के किसान नेता राकेश टिकैत तो थोड़ा संयम दिखा रहे हैं लेकिन उनके बड़े भाई भारतीय किसान यूनियन के अध्यक्ष नरेश टिकैत ने कहा कि सरकार ने अगर किसानों के साथ सख्ती की, तो हालात और ज्यादा बिगड़ेंगे, सरकार को वो वादे पूरे करने ही होंगे जो पिछले आंदोलन के वक्त किए गए थे. राकेश टिकैत तो किसान नेता हैं, इसलिए उनका बोलना बनता है लेकिन अचानक कांग्रेस, समाजवादी पार्टी और लैफ्ट के नेता सक्रिय हुए. कांग्रेस नेता रांहुल गांधी से लेकर भूपेन्द्र हुड्डा, दीपेन्द्र हुड्डा, रणदीप सिंह सुरजेवाला और पवन खेड़ा तक सारे नेता बोलने लगे. राहुल गांधी ने ट्विटर पर लिखा कि किसान भाइयों आज एतिहासिक दिन है, किसान अन्नदाता है, आप दिल्ली आ रहे हो, हम आपके साथ हैं. राहुल गांधी ने लिखा कि कांग्रेस की पहली गारंटी है किसानों को उनका हक देना, कांग्रेस किसानों को MSP की गरांटी देगी, चूंकि राहुल की न्याय यात्रा आजकल छत्तीसगढ़ में है इसलिए अंबिकापुर में राहुल गांधी ने कहा मोदी सरकार किसानों के साथ अन्याय कर रही है, कांग्रेस ही किसानों के साथ न्याय कर सकती है. समाजवादी पार्टी के अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने कहा कि चुनाव जीतने के लिए मोदी ने किसानों से बढ़-चढ़कर वादे किए थे, लेकिन वादे पूरे नहीं हुए तो नतीजा भी मोदी को भुगतना पड़़ेगा. किसानों के आंदोलन से लैफ्ट के नेता भी खुश हैं. सीपीएम नेता बृंदा करात ने कहा कि शंभू बॉर्डर पर जो हुआ वो सिर्फ ट्रेलर था, असली पिक्चर तो 16 फरवरी के बाद दिखेगी. हैदराबाद में बैठे AIMIM अध्यक्ष असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने कहा कि किसान आंदोलन मोदी सरकार की नाकामी का नतीजा है, सरकार किसानों के साथ ऐसा सलूक कर रही है मानों वो किसी दूसरे देश के घुसपैठिए हों. सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री अनुराग ठाकुर ने कहा कि किसान अपनी मांगों में नए-नए मुद्दों जोड़ते जा रहे हैं, फिर भी सरकार सभी मसलों पर बात करने को तैयार है, इसलिए किसानों को भी शांति से काम लेना चाहिए. इस पूरे मामले में एक तीसरा पक्ष भी है जिनकी बात कहीं सुनाई नहीं दे रही. ये पक्ष है, आम लोगों का. किसान आंदोलन की वजह से लाखों लोगों को दिक्कतों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है. पंजाब, हरियाणा और दिल्ली के व्यापारी बहुत परेशान हैं. आंदोलन की वजह से रास्ते बंद हैं, इंटरनेट पर पाबंदी लगी है, कारोबार ठप हो रहा है. किसानों अपनी मांग उठाएं, विरोध करें, इसमें किसी को आपत्ति नहीं होनी चाहिए. लेकिन इसके पीछे मंशा क्या है, ये देखने की जरूरत है. क्या मंशा वाकई में किसानों की भलाई के लिए है? गरीब किसान को फायदा पहुंचाने के लिए है? या इस आंदोलन का मकसद चुनाव से पहले मोदी सरकार को बदनाम करना है? पिछली बार भी किसान नेताओं ने चुनाव से पहले दिल्ली में धरना दिया था, कई महीनों तक माहौल बनाया था, लेकिन उसका जनता के दिलोदिमाग पर कोई असर नहीं हुआ. उनकी अपेक्षाओं के बावजूद मोदी ने चुनाव जीता. इस बार जो लोग आंदोलन की अगुआई कर रहे हैं, उनमें ज्यादातर लोग सियासी मसकद से आए हैं. पिछले दो दिन से सरकार के तीन मंत्री लगातार उनसे बात कर रहे हैं लेकिन किसान नेता रोज नई मांग रख देते हैं और ऐसी मांगें रख रहे हैं जो बातचीत की मेज पर बैठकर तुरंत नहीं मानी जा सकती. किसान कह रहे हैं कि सरकार WTO एग्रीमेंट से बाहर आ जाए. अब क्या इस मांग को चंड़ीगढ़ में बैठे मंत्री पूरा कर सकते हैं? किसान नेता कहते हैं कि पूरे देश के किसानों का कर्ज तुंरत माफ किया जाए. क्या इस मांग को पूरा करने का भरोसा मंत्री तुंरत दे सकते हैं? .इसीलिए ऐसा लग रहा है कि किसान नेता दिल्ली को घेरने का मन बनाकर और तैयारी करके ही निकले हैं और ये आज प्रोटेस्ट के वक्त दिखाई भी दिया. इस बार ज्यादातर किसान नेता पंजाब के हैं और ये सुनने में आया है कि पंजाब में आम आदमी पार्टी की सरकार इनको पूरी तरह हवा दे रही है.
FARMERS’ PROTEST : IS IT POLITICALLY MOTIVATED?
Several thousand farmers from Punjab, with nearly 800 tractor-trolleys are camping near multiple layers of barricades set up by police on the Haryana-Punjab border at Shambhu and Kanauri points since Tuesday. Police fired tear gas shells, rubber bullets and water cannons to disperse farmers trying to break through the barriers. More than 12 farmers and 24 policemen including the DSP of Ambala were injured in the clashes that took place. Internet services have been shut down in 15 districts of Haryana and Rajasthan. Singhu and Tikri points on Delhi-Haryana and Ghazipur on Delhi-UP border have been heavily barricaded. The agitating farmers, who have given a ‘Delhi Chalo’ call, have come fully prepared to engage in a long drawn confrontation with the Centre. The farmer leaders are insisting on the Centre providing legal guarantee for procurement of all crops at minimum support prices. Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are leading this agitation. Two marathon rounds of talks between three ministers from the Centre with the farmer leaders in Chandigarh have failed, though the government has accepted most of their demands. While opposition leaders are busy politicizing the issue, lakhs of traders in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab are facing serious problems because of the roadblocks. Their business has been badly affected due to closure of mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services. Farmers have the right to protest, but one must see the motive behind this agitation. Questions must be asked whether this agitation is really meant for the betterment of farmers, particularly the poor peasants, or whether the main objective is to tarnish the image of Modi government. Several years ago, farmers had staged similar protests on Delhi-Haryana and Delhi-UP border, but it had little impact on the minds of common people. Despite these protests, Modi won elections, and this time too, those leading the agitation have come with political motive. Three ministers from Modi government have been engaged in several rounds of talks with farmer leaders for the last two days, but the farmer leaders are coming out with fresh demands every time. They are placing demands that cannot be accepted on the table. One of the demands is for India to come out of the World Trade Organization and from free trade agreements. How can three central ministers sitting at a table in talks with the farmers accept such a demand? Farmer leaders are demanding complete loan waiver scheme to free all farm households from indebtedness. Can the ministers promise to implement this without taking all stakeholders into confidence? It seems the farmer leaders have come with the sole aim to encircle the national capital borders by staging a sit-in for a longer period. They have come with six months’ ration for staging their sit-in. Most of the leaders are from Punjab, and there are reports that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab is indirectly helping them.
नौसेना के पूर्व अफसरों की रिहाई : मोदी को बधाई
सोमवार को एक अच्छी खबर आई. क़तर में जासूसी के आरोप में उम्र कैद की सज़ा काट रहे भारतीय नौसेना के 8 पूर्व अधिकारी अपने वतन लौट आए. इनमें से सात लोग सोमवार सुबह भारत लौटे, जबकि कमांडर पूर्णेंदु तिवारी, जो कि रिहा हो चुके हैं, अबी कुछ कानून ओपचारिकताएं पूरी करने के लिए क़तर में रुके हुए हैं. दिल्ली में एयरपोर्ट से बाहर निकलने के बाद नौसेना के इन पूर्व अफसरों ने ‘भारत माता की जय’ के नारे लगाए. दरअसल इन लोगों को यकीन ही नहीं था कि वो कभी अपने घर वापस लौट पाएंगे. ये सभी पूर्व कतर की नौसेना को ट्रेनिंग देने वाली एक प्राइवेट कंपनी में काम करते थे लेकिन जासूसी के इल्जाम में इन्हें गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया था और मौत की सज़ा सुना दी गई थी. हालांकि भारत सरकार के दखल के बाद उनकी सज़ा को उम्र कैद में तब्दील कर दी गई थी लेकिन इसके बाद भी सरकार ने इनकी रिहाई के लिए कोशिशें जारी रखीं. प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने खुद कतर के अमीर से बात की. इसके बाद क़तर सरकार सात भारतीयों को वापस भेजने पर तैयार हो गई. सोमवार को जब ये लोग दिल्ली एयरपोर्ट से बाहर आए तो उन्होंने सबसे पहले प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी का शुक्रिया अदा किया. सबने एक ही बात कही कि अगर प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने इस मामले में हस्तक्षेप न किया होता, व्यक्तिगत दिलचस्पी न ली होती, तो उनकी रिहाई संभव नहीं थी. नौसेना के पूर्व अधिकारियों पर जिस तरह के आरोप थे, जिस तरह के सबूतों के आधार उन्हें सज़ा-ए-मौत दी गई थी, उसे देखते हुए उनकी सज़ा माफ करवाना, उन्हें रिहा करवाकर भारत वापस लाना बहुत बड़ी बात है. ये काम नरेंद्र मोदी के अलावा कोई नहीं कर सकता था. मोदी के क़तर के अमीर से बनाए गए निजी संबंध काम आए. पिछले कुछ सालों में दुनिया में भारत की जो साख बढ़ी है उसका असर भी इस फैसले पर दिखाई दिया. अब मोदी इस दोस्ताना कदम के लिए शुक्रिया अदा करने खुद क़तर जाएंगे. मोदी 14 फरवरी को अबु धाबी में बने BAPS मंदिर का उद्घाटन करेंगे. इसके बाद अगले दिन कतर का दौरा करेंगे और क़तर के अमीर से मिलेंगे. ये उन लोगों के मुंह पर तमाचा है जो पिछले कई दिन से इस मसले पर नरेंद्र मोदी को चुनौती दे रहे थे और इस सवाल पर जनता की भावनाओं को भड़काने की कोशिश कर रहे थे.

On early Monday morning, seven out of the eight ex-Navy men arrived in India, while Commander Purnendu Tiwari is still in Qatar after release. His return was delayed because of some legal formalities which are to be completed. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra thanked the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. Kwatra said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally supervised the developments in this case and he undertook initiative in securing the release of the veterans. The seven ex-Navy men who returned are Captains Navtej Gill and Saurabh Vashisht, Amit Nagpal, S K Gupta, V K Verma and Sugunakara Pakala and ex-sailor Ragesh. All of them were working for a now-defunct Qatar company Al Dahra Global and were facing espionage charges. They were arrested in August, 2022 and spent 18 months in jail. A court in Qatar handed them death sentence in October last year, while a higher court, two months later, upheld the conviction but reduced the death sentence to imprisonment. On their return to India, all the former Navy men said, their release would not have been possible without the personal intervention of Prime Minister Modi. Looking at the espionage charges against our former Navy men and the capital punishment given to them based on facts and evidence, it was a great success for India in ensuring that all of them returned safely. None else except Narendra Modi could have achieved this impossible objective. Modi’s personal relationship with the Emir of Qatar came in handy. India’s image across the world has risen several notches higher in the last several years. It is reflected in the release of our ex-Navy men. Modi will be visiting Qatar on Wednesday to thank the Emir for this humanitarian act. It is also a slap in the face of those who were challenging Modi’s standing in the Middle East after the Qatar court gave the death sentence. These naysayers were trying to incite the feelings of the people, but now they have been effectively silenced.

पाकिस्तान की जनता ने इस बार कमाल की हिम्मत दिखाई. सब जानते थे कि इस बार फौज, नवाज़ शरीफ़ को जिताना चाहती है. इमरान ख़ान को जेल में डाल दिया, उनकी पार्टी को चुनाव लड़ने से रोक दिया, इमरान की पार्टी के चुनाव निशान को फ्रीज कर दिया. इमरान की तहरीक-ए-इंसाफ पार्टी को समर्थन करने वालों को डराया गया. इतना सब होने के बावजूद वहां की जनता ने बड़ी संख्या में ऐसे उम्मीदवारों को जिताया, जो इमरान खान के समर्थक हैं, पर पार्टी और चुनाव निशान न होने की वजह से ये निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार के तौर पर लड़़े. इन उम्मीदवारों की जीत बताती है कि अगर इमरान खान आज़ाद होते, उनकी पार्टी को खुलकर चुनाव लड़ने दिया गया होता, तो इस बार इमरान की PTI को दो-तिहाई बहुमत मिलता. लोगों ने इतनी पाबंदियों के बावजूद, इतने जुल्म के बावजूद इमरान ख़ान के उम्मीदवारों को वोट डाला. ये वहां की जनता का मूड बताता है और ये मूड वहां की फौज के खिलाफ है. ये चुनाव इमरान का समर्थन करने वाली जनता और इमरान का विरोध करने वाली फौज के बीच हुआ और जनता ने खुलकर अपनी ताकत का इज़हार किया. ये सब चुपचाप हुआ. इतनी खामोशी से हुआ कि एस्टैबलिशमेंट (व्यवस्था) को, फौज को, इसकी कानों-कान खबर भी नहीं लगी. इसके बाद एक और कोशिश हुई, काउंटिग के दौरान आधी रात के बाद चुनाव नतीजे के एलान पर रोक लगा दी गई. काउंटिंग में बड़े पैमाने पर हेराफेरी हुई. तो भी निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार इतनी बड़ी तादाद में जीत कर आए. इस वक्त पाकिस्तान में पुलिस और फौज की सबसे बड़ी परेशानी है, लोगों के हाथों में कैमरे. लोग काउंटिंग में होने वाली हर गड़बड़ी का वीडियो बना रहे हैं और सोशल मीडिया पर पूरे सिस्टम को नंगा कर रहे हैं. पूरे पाकिस्तान में जनता में ज़बरदस्त नाराज़गी है, लेकिन इतिहास गवाह है कि पाकिस्तान में जनता क्या चाहती है, इसकी पाकिस्तान में न कभी किसी सरकार ने परवाह की, न फौज ने. इस बार भी फैसला फौज के हाथ में हैं. फौज तय करेगी कि वज़ीर-ए-आज़म कौन बनेगा और फौज किसके ज़रिए पाकिस्तान को चलाएगी.
DID ARMY STEAL THE MANDATE FOR IMRAN?
The voters of Pakistan have shown tremendous tenacity and courage this time. Almost everyone had assumed that the Army was trying to prop up Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister after Imran Khan was thrown behind bars and he was disqualified from contesting elections. Imran’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s symbol ‘bat’ was frozen, those supporting PTI and its leaders were intimidated, and yet, in the face of Himalayan obstacles, voters turned up in large numbers to make Imran’s candidates victorious. All these candidates, due to lack of recognized party symbol, had to contest as ‘independents’. The victory of these ‘independent’ candidates proves one thing: Had Imran Khan been allowed to come out of jail and campaign for his party, his party PTI could have scored a landslide victory in the elections. The very fact that the common people in Pakistan, despite stringent restrictions and atrocities, came out in large numbers and voted for Imran’s candidates, reflects the mood of the nation. The mood of the Pakistani people is against the Army. This election was a direct fight between the people, who were pro-Imran and the Army, which was anti-Imran. The people displayed their might with the ballots at the polling booths. Everything happened silently. It went so smoothly that the ‘Establishment’ and the army could not gauge what was happening on the ground. Soon after early trends started trickling in and showed ‘independent’ candidates as leading in most of the constituencies, did the ‘Establishment’ sit up and take notice. The Election Commission stopped announcing the results after midnight, even though counting was over in most of the constituencies. There was massive manipulation and rigging during the counting process. And yet, ‘independent’ candidates (read Imran supporters) won in large numbers. The army and the police in Pakistan were facing a big problem: Common people were using their smart phones to record videos of rigging that was going on inside the election booths. They were not only recording, but also uploading video clips on social media. The common man has exposed the entire electoral system. There is now widespread anger among the people across Pakistan, but past history tells us how the Establishment and Army never bothered about what the people really desired. This time, too, the Army is the arbiter. The Army will decide who will become the Prime Minister, through whom it will run the country. A sad state, indeed.
पाकिस्तान में नतीजों को लेकर सस्पेंस : आखिरी फैसला फौज का
पाकिस्तान में इस वक्त सस्पेंस का दौर है. इमरान खान और नवाज शरीफ की पार्टियां अपनी-अपनी जीत के दावे कर रही हैं. अभी इसी बात को लेकर सस्पेंस है कि कौन सी पार्टी संसद में सबसे बड़ी पार्टी के तौर पर उभरेगी. इमरान की पार्टी तहरीक-ए-इंसाफ के नेताओं का इल्ज़ाम है कि नतीजों के ऐलान में जानबूझ कर देरी की जा रही है ताकि इमरान का विरोध करने वाले उम्मीदवारों को जीता हुआ घोषित कर सकें. दूसरी तरफ नवाज़ शरीफ की बेटी मरियम ने कहा कि बहुत जल्द उनके पिता जीत का ऐलान करेंगे. मरियम का दावा है कि उनकी पार्टी संसद और पंजाब असेम्बली में सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बनने जा रही है. सोशल मीडिया पर मरियम नवाज़ ने आरोप लगाया कि मीडिया पर कल रात से गलत धारणा फैलाई जा रही थी (कि इमरान की पार्टी जीत रही है), अलहमदुलिल्लाह (अल्लाह के शुक्र से) केन्द्र और पंजाब, दोनों जगह हमारी पार्टी सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बनने जा रही है. दूसरी तरफ इमरान की पार्टी के नेता लतीफ खोसा ने दावा किया कि उनकी पार्टी बिना किसी से हाथ मिलाये सरकार बनाएगी और नवाज़ शरीफ को वापस (लंदन) जाना पड़ेगा. इसी पार्टी के एक दूसरे नेता बैरिस्टर गौहर अली खान ने दावा किया कि उनकी पार्टी के उम्मीदवार डेढ सौ सीटों पर आगे चल रहे हैं और सरकार बनाने लायक आंकड़ा मिल जाएगा. 336 सीटों वाली संसद में बहुमत के लिए 169 सीटों की जरूरत होगी. पाकिस्तान इलेक्शन कमिशन के आंकड़ों के मुताबिक, इस वक्त इमरान समर्थित उम्मीदवार सबसे आगे हैं, और नवाज शरीफ की पार्टी और बिलावल भुट्टो की पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी दूसरे और तीसरे स्थान पर चल रही हैं. सिंध असेम्बली में बिलावल की पार्टी आगे है, जबकि पंजाब असेम्बली में इमरान और नवाज़ की पार्टियों के बीच कांटे का मुकाबला चल रहा है. इमरान की पार्टी के नेताओं का आरोह है कि जिन चुनाव क्षेत्रों में उनके उम्मीदवार आगे चल रहे थे, वहां वे अब पिछड़ते हुए दिखाए जा रहे हैं. इमरान की पार्टी ने सोशल मीडिया पर जारी बयान में कहा कि रात के अंधेरे में नतीज़ों में बड़े पैमाने पर हेराफेरी हुई, जो कि शर्मनाक है और ये सरकार जनादेश की चोरी है. पार्टी ने कहा कि नतीज़ों को उलटाने के लिए रिटर्निंग अफसरों का इस्तेमाल हो रहा है. पाकिस्तान में सबको मालूम है कि नतीजा क्या आएगा. पाकिस्तान में सब ये मानकर बैठे हैं कि इस बार नवाज़ शरीफ की पार्टी PML-N फौज की फेवरेट है, उसी को जिताया जाएगा. मियां साहब की पार्टी का फौज से अलायंस, इलेक्शन का एलान होने से पहले ही हो गया था. अगर नेशनल असेंबली में PML-N को पूरा बहुमत मिला तो नवाज़ शरीफ वज़ीर-ए-आज़म बनेंगे. अगर सरकार बनाने के लिए भुट्टो से अलायंस करने की जरूरत पड़ी तो शहबाज़ शरीफ एक बार फिर पीएम बन जाएंगे. लेकिन पाकिस्तान में लोग एक और बात कह रहे हैं. वजीर-ए-आज़म कोई भी बने, हुकूमत फौज ही चलाएगी. नवाज़ शरीफ को पहले भी फौज ने बनाया था और फौज ने ही उन्हें हटाया था. उन्हें 12 साल तक मुल्क से बाहर रहना पड़ा. फिर फौज से दोस्ती हो गई तो केस भी वापस हो गए, पाकिस्तान लौट भी आए और चुनाव भी लड़ पाए. इमरान खान को भी फौज ने बनाया था लेकिन उन्होंने दो बड़ी गलतियां की. एक, वह फौज से टकरा गए. दूसरा, अमेरिका के बारे में बेसिरपैर की बयानबाजी की. नतीजा ये हुआ कि फौज ने उन्हें जेल में डलवा दिया और अब उनके बाहर निकलने की संभावना कम हैं. इमरान ने नवाज़ शरीफ को जेल में डाला था और अगर नवाज़ एक बार फिर पीएम बने तो वो इस बात का पक्का इंतज़ाम करेंगे कि इमरान खान बाक़ी ज़िंदगी जेल में काटें.
SUSPENSE IN PAKISTAN, BUT ARMY WILL BE THE ULTIMATE ARBITER
Pakistan is facing a tense situation with conflicting claims being made by Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif camps. The suspense is still on over which party will finally emerge as the single largest in the National Assembly elections. There were allegations by PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) leaders that the counting is being deliberately slowed down to facilitate rigging in order to declare anti-Imran candidates as winners. On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz, chief organiser of the party, claimed that her father would deliver a “victory speech”. She claimed that PML-N is emerging as the single largest party both in the National Assembly and in Punjab provincial assembly. On social media X, Maryam wrote: ‘As opposed to the false perception deliberately being built by a section of media last night, PML-N, Alhamdulillah (By the Grace of Allah), is emerging as the single largest party in the Centre and Punjab”. PTI leader Lateef Khosa claimed that his party would form the government without entering into any coalition, and “Nawaz Sharif will have to go back (to London).” Another senior PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan claimed that his party was leading on 150 seats and would definitely get the required number of seats to form a government. There are dozens of parties in the fray, but the three main contenders are Imran Khan’s PTI (whose candidates are running as independents), Nawaz Sharif’s PML(N) and Bilawal Zardari Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party. 169 seats are required to reach the magic mark in a House of 336, which include reserved seats for women and minorities. Counting began on Thursday evening at a snail’s pace after polling was over at 5 pm. Pakistan Election Commission data show Independents backed by PTI as leading, with PML-N and PPP following closely. Nawaz Sharif won by a big margin. He got 1,71,024 votes against PTI-backed independent Dr Yasmin Rashid who got 1,15,043 votes. All four Sharif family members, including Nawaz’s brother Shehbaz Sharif, Shehbaz’s son Hamza Shehbaz and Nawaz’s daughter Maryam, scored victories. In provincial assemblies, ECP data showed PPP leading in Sindh Assembly, while PML-N and Imran-backed independents were in a neck-and-neck contest in Punjab. PTI leaders alleged that the results are being deliberately delayed to rig the outcome. It said, “…manipulation of results in the late hours of night is an utter disgrace and a brazen theft of nation’s mandate. The people of Pakistan vehemently reject the rigged results. The world is watching….Let the world know that the clear and overwhelming mandate of the people of Pakistan is being stolen….Returning Officers are now manipulating the results..” PTI leaders alleged that their candidates are “losing suddenly in various constituencies, after they had already won by a clear majority”. On Thursday, when the polling was on, people inside and outside Pakistan knew what the outcome would be. Nawaz Sharif’s party was the favourite, as it was being backed by the Army. If PML-N gets full majority in the National Assembly, Nawaz Sharif will become the Prime Minister, and if his party requires support from Bhutto, then Shehbaz Sharif will again become the PM. People on the streets of Pakistan say, that whosoever might become the PM, the fact is: the country and government will continued to be run by the Army. It was the Army which had first backed Nawaz Sharif, then removed him and he had to spend the last 12 years outside his country. Later he built bridges with the Army, his cases were withdrawn, he returned to Pakistan and contested elections. Similarly, it was the Army which earlier backed Imran Khan, but he made two big mistakes – he locked horns with the Army, and he openly started opposing the US. The result was: he was thrown into Adiala jail, after he lost power. There are lesser chances of Imran Khan coming out of prison. It was Imran Khan, who had thrown Nawaz Sharif in jail, and if Nawaz becomes the Prime Minister again, he will ensure that Imran spends the rest of his life in jail.
मोदी, योगी ने कैसे विपक्ष पर निशाना साधा
संसद में प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने और उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा में मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने विपक्ष के खिलाफ जोरदार बैटिंग की, जमकर चौके-छक्के लगाए. मोदी ने कांग्रेस को विचारों से कंगाल, थकी-हारी, खत्म होने के कगार पर पहुंची पार्टी बताया. मोदी ने कहा कि कांग्रेस अगले चुनाव में चालीस सीटें बचा ले, उसके लिए यही बड़ी कामयाबी होगी. धन्यवाद प्रस्ताव पर राज्यसभा में बहस का जवाब देते हुए मोदी के निशाने पर खासतौर पर कांग्रेस रही. मोदी ने इल्जाम लगाया कि कांग्रेस दलित-पिछड़ों और आदिवासियों की जन्मजात विरोधी है, कांग्रेस झूठे नैरेटिव गढ़ती है, देश को तोड़ने वाली बातें करती हैं, कांग्रेस इक्कीसवीं सदी में बीसवीं सदी की मानसिकता से राजनीति करती है. मोदी ने कांग्रेस की दस साल की सरकार के वक्त हुए कामों को बताया, फिर अपनी सरकार के दस साल के कामकाज से उसकी तुलना की. इसके बाद कहा कि उनके तीसरे टर्म में भी विकास की सिलसिला रुकेगा नहीं. प्रधानमंत्री ने इस बात पर दुख जताया कि कांग्रेस और दूसरे विपक्षी दल उनकी सरकार पर राज्यों का हक मारने की आरोप लगा रहे हैं. मोदी ने कहा कि ये देश को तोड़ने का नया नैरेटिव सेट करने की कोशिश हो रही है, ये खेल घातक होगा. मोदी ने कहा कि कांग्रेस अंग्रेजों वाली मानसिकता से मुक्त नहीं हो पाई है, अभी भी उसी दौर में फंसी है, विचारशून्य हो गई है, जिस पार्टी का एक ज़माने में पूरे देश पर राज था, आज उसके सहयोगी उसे चालीस सीटें जीतने की चुनौती दो रहे हैं. मोदी ने कहा कि पहले कांग्रेस ने देश को जाति धर्म और भाषा के आधार पर तोड़ा अब कांग्रेस के नेता देश को उत्तर और दक्षिण में बांटने के बयान दे रही है. मोदी ने कहा कि ऐसी कांग्रेस अगले चुनाव में 40 सीट भी बचा ले तो बहुत होगा. असल में ममता बनर्जी ने बंगाल में अपनी रैली में कहा था कि वो कांग्रेस को बंगाल में दो सीटें दे रही है, लेकिन कांग्रेस तो बंगाल की सभी 42 सीटों पर लड़ना चाहती है, अगर कांग्रेस को जीत का इतना ही भरोसा है तो यूपी में ज्यादा सीटें लड़े, प्रयागराज में जीत कर दिखाए, बनारस में मोदी को हराए, पिछले चुनाव में कांग्रेस चालीस सीटें जीती थी, इस बार उतनी ही जीत कर दिखाए. मोदी ने इसी बात को पकड़ा और उसी पर कमेंट किया. मोदी के भाषण का पूरा फोकस कांग्रेस पर था. इसका एक मतलब तो साफ है. अब तक बीजेपी को लग रहा था कि अगर सारे विरोधी दल मिलकर लड़ते हैं, मोदी को हराने के लिए एक साथ आते हैं, तो कुछ राज्यों में चुनौती पेश कर सकते हैं. लेकिन अब नीतीश बीजेपी के साथ आ गए, ममता बनर्जी अलायन्स से अलग हो गई, अखिलेश यादव कांग्रेस को टहला रहे हैं और जयन्त चौधरी अब अखिलेश को गच्चा देने की तैयारी में है, इसलिए एलायन्स तो लगभग खत्म हो गया. लेकिन राजस्थान, मध्य प्रदेश, हरियाणा, हिमाचल, उत्तराखंड, असम, गुजरात, कर्नाटक और तेलंगाना जैसे राज्य़ों में मुकाबला कांग्रेस से होगा, इसलिए अब बीजेपी के नेता कांग्रेस का सामना करेंगे. देश भर में करीब 300 सीटें ऐसी हैं जहां कांग्रेस बीजेपी की मुख्य प्रतिद्वन्द्वी है. मोदी ने इसी बात की तरफ इशारा किया है. अब इसका असर देश भर में दिखने लगेगा. बीजेपी को सबसे ज्यादा उम्मीद उत्तर प्रदेश से है. जहां अयोध्या में राम मंदिर बना है, काशी से नरेंद्र मोदी चुनाव लड़ते हैं और प्रदेश में योगी आदित्यनाथ की सरकार है. बुधवार को योगी आदित्यनाथ ने एक बार फिर अपनी वाकपटुता का परिचय दिया. ऐसे मुद्दे उठाए, जो सीधे जनता के दिल से जुड़े हैं. संसद में मोदी ने अयोध्या की बात नहीं की, रामलला की प्राण प्रतिष्ठा का जिक्र नहीं किया, मज़हब से जुड़ी कोई बात नहीं की, लेकिन ये कमी योगी आदित्यनाथ ने पूरी कर दी. योगी ने विधानसभा में कहा कि अयोध्या में श्रीराम आ गए हैं, काशी में विराजे नंदी ने रात के अंधेरे में तहखाने में बंद भोले बाबा के चारों तरफ लगे बैरीकेड्स तोड़ डाले, तो अब कन्हैया कहां रूकने वाले हैं? योगी ने कहा कि पांडवों ने पांच गांव मांगे थे, कौरवों ने नहीं दिए तो महाभारत हुआ, हिन्दू तो सिर्फ तीन, अयोध्या, मथुरा और काशी मांग रहे हैं. योगी ने भाषण की शुरूआत अयोध्या से की. योगी ने कहा कि उन्हें तो इस बात का संतोष है, कि जो कहा वो करके दिखाया, जहां कहा, वहीं मंदिर बनाया. योगी ने इशारों में ये भी बता दिया कि अब काशी और मथुरा की बारी है. कहा कि अयोध्या को अभिशप्त बना दिया गया था, एक जमीन के टुकड़े को लेकर विवाद था लेकिन पूरी अयोध्या को विकास से वंचित कर दिया गया, वोट बैंक के चक्कर में दूसरी पार्टियों के नेता अयोध्या जाने से बचते थे, कुर्सी चली जाती इस डर से नोएडा और बिजनौर नहीं जाते थे. योगी ने कहा कि उनकी आस्था थी, विकास की प्रतिबद्धता थी, इसलिए अयोध्या भी गए और कुर्सी जाने का कोई डर नहीं था, इसलिए नोएडा और बिजनौर भी गए. योगी ने कहा कि जब मनुष्य शाश्वत नहीं है, तो कुर्सी कहां शाश्वत रहेगी, इसलिए जिन लोगों ने वोट के चक्कर में अयोध्या के साथ अन्याय किया, उन्हें प्रभु राम ने किनारे लगा दिया. योगी ने कहा कि जब रामलला मंदिर में विराजमान हो गए तो काशी में बैठे नंदी महाराज ने भी रात में बैरिकेड्स तोड़ डाले, अब कन्हैया भी कहां मानने वाले हैं? योगी ने महाभारत की याद दिलाई. कहा कि पांडवों ने पांच गांव मांगे थे, कृष्ण ने कौरवों को बहुत समझाया था लेकिन जब कौरवों ने कह दिया कि बिना युद्ध के सुई की नोंक के बराबर भी जमीन नहीं देंगे तो फिर महाभारत हुआ और पूरा कुरु वंश नष्ट हो गया. योगी ने कहा कि हिन्दू सिर्फ तीन पवित्र स्थल मांग रहे हैं, इसमें गलत क्या है? जिन आततायियों ने हमारे आराधना स्थलों को तोड़ा, आजकल वोट के चक्कर में उनका गुणगान किया जा रहा है, ये बर्दाश्त नहीं किया जाएगा. एक बात तो पक्की है कि यूपी में कानून और व्यवस्था के मसले पर योगी को कोई चैलेंज नहीं कर सकता. ये वो बदलाव है जो यूपी की जनता हर रोज अपने आसपास महसूस करती है. यूपी में लोग चैन की नींद सोते हैं और गुंडागर्दी करने वालों की नींद उड़ी हुई है. दूसरी बात, अयोध्या में बने राम मंदिर ने योगी आदित्यनाथ को नई ऊर्जा दी है, अयोध्या न सिर्फ राम की नगरी है, न सिर्फ अध्यात्म का शहर है बल्कि अयोध्या को योगी ने वर्ल्ड टूरिज्म का एक बड़ा सेंटर बना दिया है. इसका असर पूरे उत्तर प्रदेश में दिखाई दे रहा है. जहां तक सियासत की बात है, यूपी में योगी ने कांग्रेस को लगभग साफ कर दिया है. पिछले चार चुनाव में समाजवादी पार्टी को भी मात दी है, चाहे समाजवादी पार्टी ने कांग्रेस से हाथ मिलाया हो या बीएसपी से, इसका कोई असर नहीं दिखा. इस बार यूपी में इंडी अलायंस बनाने की जो कोशिश थी, उसको भी आघात लगा है. इस बात की चर्चा है कि जयंत चौधरी अखिलेश यादव का साथ छोड़ने वाले हैं. उन्होंने हवा का रुख पहचान लिया है. जहां तक चुनाव से पहले दलों के गठबंधन की बात है, थोड़े दिन पहले तो सारे मोदी विरोधी एक साथ इकट्ठे हो रहे थे लेकिन अब उल्टी गंगा बहने लगी है. नीतीश कुमार इंडी अलायंस का साथ छोड़कर बीजेपी के साथ आ चुके हैं और चंद्रबाबू नायडू के भी इसी तरफ आने का आसार हैं. ये मोदी विरोधी मोर्चे के लिए बड़ा झटका है.
MODI, YOGI : TWIN-BARRELLED ATTACKS ON OPPOSITION
Strong oratory was on display both inside Parliament and in the UP assembly on Wednesday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath hit out at the opposition. Modi singled out the Congress in Rajya Sabha, calling it a party that has run out of ‘warranty’ and its leader Rahul Gandhi as “a startup” who has proved to be “a non-starter”. In a jibe, without naming TMC chief Mamata Banerjee who had challenged the Congress to win 40 LS seats, Modi said, “I am praying that the Congress should at least protect its 40 seats”. Modi alleged that the Congress was always against SC, ST reservations. He read out Jawaharlal Nehru’s letters to assert that India’s first PM had opposed reservations in jobs for scheduled castes and tribes on the grounds that this would promote inefficiency and lower standards of governance. He lashed out at the Karnataka Congress government for coining the slogan “Hamara tax, Hamara money”, saying nothing can be worse. His remarks came on a day the Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah along with his ministers and party leaders staged a dharna in Delhi to highlight alleged injustice by the Centre in transferring tax revenue to his state. Modi said, “We must look at India as one. What will happen if states from the east refuse to send coal to other states? Or Himalayan states start claiming rights over river water share? What would have happened if eastern states had stopped supply of medical oxygen to all the states during Covid pandemic?” Modi alleged that Congress is peddling a dangerous narrative to create North-South divide. Modi alleged that Congress is still stuck in the 20th century mindset and its thought process has become outdated. “There was a time when the Congress ruled India and today its own allies are challenging the party to win 40 seats”, he said. Oozing confidence, Modi said, people have already started saying Modi 3.0 after the elections. He said he would ensure that India would become the third largest economy in the world. Modi did not refer to Ram temple or any matter relating to religion, but 530 km away from Delhi, in Lucknow, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath made his point on Ayodhya temple issue, while speaking in the state assembly. Yogi clearly indicated that Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi and Eidgah-Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura are now on the agenda. Yogi publicly endorsed the demand for handing over these Muslim shrines to the Hindus. He drew examples from Mahabharata and said, Lord Krishna, as envoy for Pandavas, had asked for only five villages, but Duryodhana rejected the demand saying not a needle size of land will be given. This led to the Mahabharata war in which the entire Kaurava dynasty was killed. Yogi said, “similarly Hindus had asked for only three shrines in Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura, but they were made the butt of jokes. Injustice was done to all these three religious places… Here, too, they became adamant, and when this adamant attitude was laced with politics and efforts were made to turn these issues into vote-bank politics, disputes became complicated.” Yogi hit out at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA (Picchda, Dalit, Alpasankhyak) plank and described this acronym as ‘Parivar Development Authority’. Yogi said, Akhilesh Yadav can never think beyond his family, and “the problem is that he even discriminates against his own family members, particularly his uncle (reference to Shivpal Yadav)”. Analyzing both the speeches of Modi and Yogi, one can say, Modi wants to focus on Congress as its main rival in the Lok Sabha elections. BJP leadership may face challenges in some states if all opposition parties join hands, but now that Nitish Kumar and his JD-U are back in NDA, Mamata Banerjee has practically walked out of the alliance, and Jayant Chaudhary of Rashtriya Lok Dal is about to ditch the combine, the INDI alliance, for all practical purposes, is now a divided house. Only in states like Rajasthan, MP, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Gujarat, Karnataka and Telangana, the Congress will give a fight to BJP. There are nearly 300 Lok Sabha seats which will witness a straight fight between BJP and Congress. This is the reason why Modi is focusing his attacks on Congress. BJP has high hopes from Uttar Pradesh, which has the largest number of 80 LS seats. Ram temple has been built in Ayodhya, Modi’s constituency is Varanasi and Yogi Adityanath is ruling the state. The main challenger is Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party. One thing is certain. Nobody can challenge Yogi Adityanath as far as restoring law and order in UP is concerned. This is a sea change which the average citizen in UP feels in daily life. People sleep peacefully, unlike the days when gangsters made people sleepless. Secondly, the inauguration of Ram temple in Ayodhya has infused fresh energy in Yogi Adityanath. Ayodhya is not only Lord Ram’s birthplace and a spiritual place, it has now become a big centre on world tourism map. The effect is being felt across Uttar Pradesh. As far as politics is concerned, Yogi has almost decimated the Congress in UP, and in the last four elections, BJP has defeated Samajwadi Party, even when it was in alliance with BSP or Congress. This time, efforts to forge INDI alliance in UP have faced critical problems. Already RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary wants to quit the alliance, and Telugu Desam Party Chandrababu Naidu is also in the queue to join NDA. These are big setbacks for the anti-Modi front.
