ममता क्यों कह रही हैं कि उनकी पार्टी बंगाल में फिर चुनाव जीतेगी
पश्चिम बंगाल में चुनावी महासंग्राम शुरू हो चुका है। ममता बनर्जी की पार्टी तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने शुक्रवार को उम्मीदवारों की लिस्ट जारी की। विधानसभा की कुल 294 सीटें हैं, इनमें से 291 सीटों के लिए ममता ने उम्मीदवारों के नामों का ऐलान कर दिया है, बाकी दार्जिलिंग की तीन सीटें अपनी नई सहयोगी पार्टी गोरखा जनमुक्ति मोर्चा के दोनों धड़ों के लिए छोड़ी है।
तृणमूल सुप्रीमो ममता बनर्जी ने नंदीग्राम से चुनाव लड़ने की बीजेपी की चुनौती को स्वीकार कर लिया है। इस बार ममता बनर्जी नंदीग्राम से चुनाव लड़ेंगी। नंदीग्राम में ममता और बीजेपी के शुभेंदु अधकारी के बीच एक रोचक मुकाबला हो सकता है। ममता ने अपने गृह क्षेत्र दक्षिण कोलकाता के भवानीपुर से चुनाव नहीं लड़ने का फैसला किया है। ममता ने कहा कि वो अपनी परम्परागत सीट भवानीपुर शोभनदेव चट्टोपाध्याय को दे रही हैं। शोभनदेव ममता के बेहद भरोसेमंद माने जाते हैं।
प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में उम्मीदवारों की लिस्ट जारी करने के बाद ममता ने हुंकार भरी और बीजेपी को चैलेंज किया-उन्होंने कहा- ‘खेला होबे, देखा होबे, जेता होबे (हम खेलेंगे..लड़ेंगे और जीतेंगे)। ममता ने चुनाव आयोग को चुनौती देते हुए कहा कि वह विधानसभा की हर एक सीट के लिए अलग-अलग चरण में (हर सीट के लिए एक चरण) में चुनाव कराए ‘फिर भी हम जीतेंगे।’
भाजपा से मिल रही कड़ी टक्कर के बीच तृणमूल सुप्रीमो ममता ने कहा-‘ देश में जितनी भी फोर्स है, कश्मीर से कन्याकुमारी तक, अमित शाह को बोलो सबको इधर भेज देने को, ये जनता की बात है। जनता पर शक मत करो। जनता के विश्वास को मत छोड़ो। बंगाल की जनता हमें भारी बहुमत से जिताएगी।’ उधर, प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी रविवार को कोलकाता के ब्रिगेड परेड मैदान से चुनाव प्रचार अभियान की शुरुआत करेंगे। इस रैली में अभिनेता मिथुन चक्रवर्ती के बीजेपी में शामिल होने की उम्मीद है।
ममता बनर्जी ने कहा कि बंगाल पर तो बंगाल के लोग ही राज करेंगे। बाहरी लोगों को बंगाल में घुसने भी नहीं देंगे। ममता ने इल्जाम लगाया कि बीजेपी शासित राज्यों के मंत्री और उपमुख्यमंत्री जैसे संवैधानिक पदों पर बैठे लोग बंगाल में आकर ठहरे हैं और लालच देकर लोगों को प्रभावित करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। ममता ने कहा कि वो ऐसे नेताओं से कहेंगी कि ‘जल्द से जल्द बंगाल छोड़ दें क्योंकि इस तरह की गड़बड़ी बर्दाश्त नहीं की जाएगी।’
ममता की लिस्ट में इसबार 50 महिला उम्मीदवार हैं जिनमें से कई नए चेहरे हैं और ज्यादातर टॉलीवुड फिल्म उद्योग से हैं। इनमें सायंतिका बनर्जी, कौशानी मुखर्जी, सायोनी घोष, जून माल्या, कीर्तन गायक अदिति मुंशी, निर्देशक राज चक्रवर्ती, अभिनेता कांचन मुलिक, सोहम चक्रवर्ती, पूर्व क्रिकेटर मनोज तिवारी और पूर्व फुटबॉलर बिदेश बोस शामिल हैं।
ममता बनर्जी ने बंगाल की एक तिहाई सीटें महिलाओं और मुसलमानों को दी हैं। इस बार कुल 42 मुस्लिम उम्मीदवारों को टिकट दिया है जो कि पिछली बार की तुलना में कम है। इस बार ममता बनर्जी ने टिकट बंटवारे में सामाजिक समीकरणों का पूरा ख्याल रखा है। मुस्लिम और महिला उम्मीदवारों के साथ-साथ तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने अनुसूचित जाति (एससी) वर्ग के 79 उम्मीदवारों को टिकट दिया है और 17 टिकट अनुसूचित जनजाति (एसटी) को दिया है। उम्मीदवारों की लिस्ट जारी करते हुए ममता बनर्जी ने दावा किया कि उनकी पार्टी चुनाव में जीत हासिल करेगी और अपनी सत्ता बरकरार रखेगी।
ये सही है कि पश्चिम बंगाल में इस बार ममता बनर्जी को बीजेपी से कड़ी चुनौती मिल रही है। तृणमूल कांग्रेस के बड़े-बड़े नेता, करीब एक दर्जन विधायक और दो मंत्री बीजेपी में शामिल हो गए। इससे तृणमूल कांग्रेस के कार्यकर्ताओं का मनोबल तो गिरा। जब शुभेन्दु अधिकारी, राजीव बनर्जी जैसे नेताओं ने पार्टी छोड़ी तो लगा कि अब ममता की हार निश्चित है। लेकिन जिस दिन शुभेन्दु अधिकारी बीजेपी में शामिल हुए तो ममता ने चौबीस घंटे के भीतर ऐलान कर दिया कि अब वो खुद शुभेंदु के गढ़ नंदीग्राम से चुनाव लड़ेंगी। शुभेन्दु ने भी चैलेन्ज को स्वीकार कर लिया। इसके बाद बीजेपी के प्रदेश अध्यक्ष दिलीप घोष ने कहा कि ममता में हिम्मत है तो सिर्फ नंदीग्राम से लड़कर दिखाएं। उन्हें नंदीग्राम में पचास हजार से ज्यादा वोट से हराएंगे। शुक्रवार को ममता ने दिलीप घोष की चुनौती स्वीकार कर ली है।
इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि तृणमूल कांग्रेस के चुनाव प्रचार का पूरा दारोमदार सिर्फ ममता बनर्जी पर है और वो पूरे फॉर्म में हैं। वे शनिवार को सिलीगुड़ी जाएंगी और रविवार को वहां सिलेंडर रैली करेंगी। ये रैली मंहगाई के सवाल पर है। इसके बाद ममता बनर्जी महिला दिवस पर आयोजित महिला रैली में हिस्सा लेंगी। 10 मार्च को ममता बनर्जी नंदीग्राम विधानसभा से चुनाव लड़ने के लिए हल्दिया में नामांकन दाखिल करेंगी। ममता 11 मार्च को महाशिवरात्रि का उपवास रखेंगी और इसके बाद 13 मार्च से उनका धुआंधार चुनाव प्रचार शुरू होगा। वे 120 से ज्यादा चुनावी सभाओं को संबोधित करेंगी।
इस बार ममता के लिए दोहरी चुनौती है। मुस्लिम वोटों को अपने साथ बनाए रखना है और हिंदू वोटों को बीजेपी के पास जाने से रोकना है। मुश्किल ये है कि लेफ्ट फ्रंट और कांग्रेस का गठबंधन मुस्लिम वोटों में सेंध लगाने की कोशिश कर रहा है। चूंकि बंगाल में लेफ्ट फ्रंट ने इस बार फुरफुरा शरीफ के पीरजादा अब्बास सिद्दीकी से गठबंधन किया है इसलिए ममता के लिए खतरा तो है। इसकी एक झलक शुक्रवार को प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में मिली। जैसे ही एक रिपोर्टर ने पीरजादा अब्बास सिद्दीकी का नाम लिया, तो ममता उखड़ गईं। उन्होंने कहा ऐसे लोगों का नाम मत लो। इसके बाद ममता प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में ये गिनाने लगीं कि उन्होंने बंगाल में मंदिरों के लिए क्या-क्या किया। कोलकाता के कालीघाट मंदिर के पास और बेलूड़ मठ के पास स्काईवे बनवाया। यानी ममता अब मुस्लिम वोटों के साथ-साथ हिन्दू वोटों का भी पूरा-पूरा ध्यान रख रही हैं।
फुरफुरा शरीफ में भी बंगाली मुस्लिम वोटर ममता का समर्थन या विरोध के सवाल पर बंटे हुए हैं। पश्चिम बंगाल में मुस्लिम वोट कितनी बड़ी ताकत है इसका अंदाजा आपको इस बात से लग जाएगा कि 2011 की जनगणना के अनुसार पश्चिम बंगाल में मुस्लिमों की आबादी 2.46 करोड़ है जो अब बढ़कर करीब ढाई करोड़ तक जा सकती है। यानी पूरी आबादी का करीब 27 प्रतिशत। इन्हीं वोटों की वजह से ममता बनर्जी दो बार विधानसभा चुनाव में भारी जीत हासिल कर चुकी हैं। मुस्लिम वोटर्स करीब 100 सीटों पर हार जीत तय करने की स्थिति में होते हैं। और इस बात को ऐसे समझिए कि 2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव में बीजेपी ने 18 सीटों पर जीत हासिल की थी। तृणमूल कांग्रेस को 12 सीटों पर नुकसान हुआ था। इसके बावजूद ..तृणमूल कांग्रेस का वोट शेयर 43 प्रतिशत रहा और सीटों के नुकसान के बावजूद वोट प्रतिशत 2014 के लोकसभा चुनाव से पांच प्रतिशत ज्यादा था। 2016 के विधानसभा चुनाव की बात करें तो आपको यह समीकरण साफ तौर पर समझ आ जाएगा। सोचिए बंगाल में मुस्लिम वोटर्स जिन सीटों पर हार जीत तय करते हैं उनमें से 90 सीटों पर ममता बनर्जी की पार्टी ने जीत हासिल की और इनमें भी ऐसी सीटें जहां मुस्लिम वोटर्स 40 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा हैं, ऐसी 65 में से 60 सीटों पर ममता बनर्जी की टीएमसी ने कब्जा किया।
इससे सप्ष्ट है कि बंगाल में मुसलमानों की पहली पसंद ममता बनर्जी हैं। लेकिन ये सब तब था जब बंगाल में ममता बनर्जी का मुस्लिम वोट अटूट था। मुसलमानों को ममता के अलावा दूसरा कोई और विकल्प नज़र नहीं आता था। अब बंगाल में पीरजादा अब्बास सिद्दीकी के साथ मिलकर लेफ्ट फ्रंट और कांग्रेस ने मुस्लिम वोट को तोड़ने के लिए एक प्रयास किया है, लेकिन अब तक तो ये लगता है कि विधानसभा चुनाव में मुस्लिम वोट उसी को मिलेगा जो जिस सीट पर बीजेपी को हराने की स्थिति में होगा। इस मामले में फिलहाल ममता का पलड़ा भारी है क्योंकि ममता बनर्जी ही बीजेपी को टक्कर दे रही हैं।
Why Mamata is confident of scoring another victory in Bengal
The drumbeats for West Bengal assembly elections have begun with Mamata Banerjee releasing her list of all 291 Trinamool candidates on Friday. She left three seats in Darjeeling region for both the factions of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, her new ally.
The Trinamool supremo has taken up the BJP’s challenge thrown at her to contest from Nandigram only. A battle royale is going to take place between her and BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari. Mamata has decided not to contest from her home turf, Bhawanipur in South Kolkata, and decided to field her trusted aide Sovandeb Chattopadhyay.
At the press conference, where she released the list, Mamata said, “Khela hobey, dekha hobey, Jeta hobey” (the match is on, we will meet, we will win). She went to the extent of challenging the Election Commission to conduct the assembly polls in 294 phases, one phase for each seat, and said, “yet we will win”.
“Let Amit Shah bring all the forces from Kashmir to Kanyakumari here, the people of Bengal will elect us with a thumping majority”, said the Trinamool supremo, who is facing a tough battle from the BJP juggernaut, with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to launch the poll campaign on Sunday from Kolkata’s Brigade Parade ground. Actor Mithun Chakraborty is expected to join the party at this rally.
Hyping up her “only Bengali’ narrative, Mamata Banerjee said, “only Bengalis will rule the people of Bengal, we will not allow outsiders to rule us”. She alleged that there were several “Constitutional authorities” like ministers and deputy chief ministers, who are bringing in and distributing cash in Bengal. “I warn them to leave or we will take action”, she added.
The list comprises 50 women candidates, many of them new faces and are mostly from Tollywood film industry. They include Sayantika Banerjee, Koushani Mukherjee, Saayoni Ghosh, June Maliah, kirtan singer Aditi Munshi, director Raj Chakraborty, actors Kanchan Mullick and Soham Chakraborty, former cricketer Manoj Tiwary and former footballer Bidesh Bose.
One-third of the candidates are either Muslim or women. Mamata Banerjee has given tickets to 42 Muslim candidates, which is lower compared to last time. 79 SC and 17 ST candidates have been fielded by the party.
While releasing the list, though Mamata Banerjee put up a brave face and claimed that her party would retain power, the fact remains that more than a dozen TMC MLAs, including two ministers, have left her party and have joined the BJP. With trusted loyalists like Suvendu Adhikari and Rajiv Banerjee gone, Trinamool workers are a demoralized lot in these constituencies.
A day after Suvendu Adhikari quit, Mamata announced that she would contest from Suvendu’s borough Nandigram. BJP state chief Dilip Ghosh challenged Mamata to contest only from Nandigram. Ghosh said, Suvendu would defeat Mamata by a margin of 50,000 votes. On Friday, Mamata said, she has fulfilled her promise and has now accepted the challenge.
Already, Mamata has chalked up her schedule. She left for Siliguri on Saturday, where she will lead a ‘cylinder rally’ on Sunday. This will be followed by a women’s rally on Women’s Day, she would return to Kolkata, and would go to Haldia to file her nomination from Nandigram on March 10. After celebrating Mahashivratri the next day, Mamata will launch her statewide campaign from March 13. She will be addressing more than 120 election meetings.
Mamata faces a twin challenge: she has to keep her Muslim vote bank intact and stop Hindu Bengali voters from leaving her fold. The Congress and Left Front are stitching a tie-up with Furfura Sharif’s Peerzada Abbas Siddiqui’s new party to dent Mamata’s Muslim vote bank. On Friday, when a reporter mentioned Abbas Siddiqui’s name, Mamata cut her short and said she doesn’t want to hear his name.
At the press conference, Mamata listed out the developmental work her government had done for Hindu temples, like the skyways built at Kolkata’s Kalighat and Belur Math. Mamata is now taking utmost care of Hindu voters, to counter the hi-decibel BJP campaign of minorities’ appeasement against her.
The Bengali Muslim voters, even in Furfura Sharif, are divided on whether to support or oppose Mamata. According to the 2011 census, Muslims in West Bengal number 2.46 crore, which by now may have increased to two and a half crore. This constitutes more than 27 per cent of the state population. Mamata’s TMC scored two consecutive victories in Bengal with the support of Muslim voters, who have the power to decide the results in as many as 100 constituencies.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 18 LS seats and the TMC had to suffer losses in 12 LS seats, but Mamata’s party secured 43 per cent votes, which was five per cent more compared to the previous 2014 LS elections. In the last 2016 assembly elections, TMC dominated and won in as many as 90 constituencies because of the support of Muslim voters. These included 65 seats where Muslim percentage was more than 40 pc. The TMC won 60 out of these 65 seats.
Clearly, at that time, Mamata was the first choice for most of the Muslim voters. But this was at the time when the Muslim vote bank was intact. The average Muslim voter in Bengal had no other option, but now Peerzada Abbas Siddiqui has joined hands with the Left Front and Congress, and there appears to be a major crack in this vote bank. In next month’s elections, the Muslim voters will prefer to vote for candidates who have the best chance to defeat the BJP. At the moment, Mamata has a strong footing as the battle appears to be heading towards a straight contest between Mamata and the BJP.
दहेज और घरेलू हिंसा के खिलाफ अपनी आवाज उठाएं
इंडिया टीवी पर अपने प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में गुरुवार की रात हमने एक वीडियो क्लिप दिखाया जिसमें एक शादीशुदा मुस्लिम महिला आयशा बानू अपने पिता को अपना ख्याल रखने की बात कहने के कुछ मिनटों बाद अहमदाबाद के साबरमती नदी में कूदकर जान दे देती है। आयशा की खुदकुशी के इस वीडियो से दहेज और घरेलू हिंसा के मुद्दे पर भारतीय मुसलमानों में जबरदस्त गुस्सा है। देश के अधिकांश मस्जिदों में शुक्रवार को जुमे की नमाज के बाद होनेवाली तकरीर में मौलानाओं ने लोगों से दहेज के खिलाफ, बेटियों पर हो रहे जुल्म के खिलाफ अपील की। एआईएमआईएम प्रमुख असदुद्दीन ओवैसी भी इसी तरह की एक तकरीर में शामिल हुए।
सबसे पहले आपको आयशा की खुदकुशी से जुड़े कुछ तथ्यों के बारे में बता दूं। आयशा अहमदाबाद के वातवा स्थितअलमीना पार्क में रहती थी और प्राइवेट सेक्टर के एक बड़े बैंक में काम करती थी। वह एमए इकोनॉमिक्स फाइनल ईयर की स्टूडेंट थी। आयशा ने वर्ष 2018 के जुलाई महीने में माइनिंग सुपवाइजर आरिफ खान से प्रेम विवाह किया था। शादी के कुछ दिनों बाद ही उसके पति और ससुरालवालों ने दहेज की मांग शुरू कर दी और उसे परेशान करना शुरू कर दिया। रोज-रोज की प्रताड़ना से तंग आकर आयशा ने साबरमती नदी में कूदकर अपनी जान दे दी। आयशा के पति आरिफ को गुजरात पुलिस ने राजस्थान के पाली से एक मार्च को पकड़ लिया। आरिफ को खुदकुशी के लिए उकसाने और दहेज उत्पीड़न के आरोप में गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया।
25 फरवरी की दोपहर आयशा ने नदी में कूदने से पहले अपने पति आरिफ से बात की। उस बेदर्द इंसान से आयशा ने कहा कि वो मरने जा रही है। लेकिन आरिफ ने उसे रोका नहीं और उल्टा ये कहा कि अगर तुझे सुसाइड करना है तो कर ले, लेकिन नदी में कूदने से पहले एक वीडियो जरूर बना देना। उस वीडियो में ये कह देना कि तुम अपनी मर्जी से ये कदम उठा रही हो, किसी ने तुम पर खुदकुशी के लिए दबाव नहीं बनाया है। आयशा ने खुदकुशी से पहले दो मिनट का वीडियो बनाया जिसमें उसने अपने पिता लियाकत अली मकरानी से बेहद भावनात्मक अपील की। आयशा ने अपने पिता से कहा कि वे आरिफ के खिलाफ घरेलू हिंसा का केस नहीं करें। नदी में कूदने से पहले वीडियो में उसने कहा कि वह ‘आरिफ को आजाद कर रही है। आयशा ने कहा-‘अगर उसे आजादी चाहिए तो ठीक है वो आजाद रहे।’ जब आयशा का शव बरामद किया गया तो शुरू में पुलिस ने हादसे में मौत की रिपोर्ट दर्ज की लेकिन जब वीडियो वायरल हुआ और सोशल मीडिया पर लोगों का गुस्सा भड़का तो आरिफ खान पर आईपीसी की धारा 306 (आत्महत्या के लिए उकसाने) के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया।
आयशा के पिता ने पुलिस को बताया कि उसके ससुरालवालों ने दहेज के रूप में 5 लाख रुपये की मांग की थी लेकिन वे सिर्फ 1.5 लाख रुपये का इंतजाम कर पाए थे। यह रकम 2019 में आरिफ, उसके माता-पिता और बहनों के खिलाफ घरेलू हिंसा का मामला दर्ज होने के बाद दी गई थी। घरेलू हिंसा के मामले में आयशा ने आरोप लगाया था कि उसे राजस्थान के जालोर में उसके पति के घर पर पीटा गया था।
अहमदाबाद पुलिस को कॉल डिटेल रिकॉर्ड्स (सीडीआर) की कॉपी मिल गई है जिसमें ये खुलासा हुआ है कि 25 फरवरी को आयशा की खुदकुशी से पहले आरिफ और आयशा के बीच 72 मिनट की बातचीत हुई थी। आयशा ने अपने माता-पिता के साथ भी 5 मिनट तक बातचीत की। आयशा के माता-पिता ने उससे ऐसा नहीं करने की गुहार की थी। वहीं उसे पति आरिफ ने तो यहां तक कहा-‘अगर तुझे सुसाइड करना है तो कर ले, लेकिन नदी में कूदने से पहले एक वीडियो जरूर बनाकर मुझे भेज देना।’
आयशा का अंतिम वीडियो ‘आज की बात’ में दिखाया गया। इस वीडियो में आयशा अपने पिता से कह रही है: ‘हैलो, अस्सलाम वालेकुम, मेरा नाम है आयशाआरिफ खान..और मैं जो कुछ भी करने जा रही हूं,अपनी मर्जी से करने जा रही हूं। इसमें किसी का जोर या दबाव नहीं है। अब बस..क्या कहें… ये समझ लीजिए कि खुदा की दी जिंदगी इतनी ही होती है और मुझे इतनी ही जिंदगी बहुत सुकून वाली मिली। और डैड, कब तक लड़ेंगे अपनों से? केस विड्रॉल कर दो। नहीं करना। आयशा लड़ाइयों के लिए नहीं बनी है। और प्यार करते हैं आरिफ से, उसे परेशान थोड़ी न करेंगे। अगर उसे आजादी चाहिए तो ठीक है वो आजाद रहे। चलो अपनी जिंदगी तो यहीं तक है। मैं खुश हूं कि मैं अब अल्लाह से मिलूंगी और उन्हें कहूंगी कि मेरे से गलती कहां रह गई?’
‘मां-बाप बहुत अच्छे मिले, दोस्त भी बहुत अच्छे मिले। लेकिन कहीं कोई कमी रह गई, मुझमें या शायद तकदीर में। मैं खुश हूं, सुकून से जाना चाहती हूं। अल्लाह से दुआ करती हूं कि अब दोबारा इंसानों की शक्ल न दिखाए। एक चीज जरूर सीख रही हूं कि मोहब्बत करनी है तो दो तरफा करो, क्योंकि एकतरफा में कुछ हासिल नहीं है। चलो कुछ मोहब्बत तो निकाह के बाद भी अधूरी रहती है। ऐ प्यारी सी नदी, प्रे करते हैं कि मुझे अपने में समा ले। और मेरे पीठ पीछे जो भी हो, प्लीज ज्यादा बखेड़ा मत करना। मैं हवाओं की तरह हूं, बस बहना चाहती हूं और बहते रहना चाहती हूं। किसी के लिए नहीं रुकना। मैं खुश हूं आज के दिन… मुझे जो सवाल के जवाब चाहिए थे, वे मिल गए। और मुझको जिसको जो बताना था सच्चाई वो बता चुकी हूं। बस काफी है, थैंक्यू। मुझे दुआओं में याद करना। क्या पता जन्नत मिले या न मिले। चलो अलविदा।’
आयशा के शब्द बेहद भावुक थे। अपने पिता के साथ फोन पर आखिरी बातचीत में भी आयशा इसी तरह की बहुत बातें कहती हैः आयशा के पिता-बेटा कहां पर हो तुम? आयशा-‘रिवरफ्रंट पर हूं… आ रही हूं मैं…’। आयशा के पिता-‘मैं मोंटू को भेजता हूं… हैलो, सोनू…’। आयशा के पिता-‘मेरी बात सुन बेटा…’। आयशा-‘कुछ नहीं सुनना पापा…’। आयशा के पिता-‘देख गलत बात मत कर… लो अम्मी से बात करो…’। आयशा-‘मुझे कुछ नहीं सुनना… मुझे बस पानी में कूदना है…’। आयशा के माता-पिता-‘अरे बेटा… ऐसा काम मत करना…’। आयशा-‘बहुत हो गया अब…’। आयशा के माता-पिता-‘ऐसा काम करोगी तो लोग बोलेंगे कि ये खराब थी…’। आयशा-जिसे जो चाहे बोले…। आयशा के माता-पिता-‘ऐसा काम मत करना…’। आयशा-‘मुझे पानी में कूदना है…मुझे नहीं जीना है अब..थक गई हूं..’। आयशा के पिता-‘कुछ भी नहीं..अल्लाह मालिक है, माफ करेगा..’। आयशा-‘मुझे किसी से बात नहीं करनी… उसको नहीं आना मेरी जिंदगी में…आजादी चाहिए तो मैंने उसे आजादी दे दी है…बोलता है… तुम मरने जा रही है तो वीडियो बनाकर भेज देना… ताकि मुझे पुलिस ना ले जाए….मैंने बोला ठीक है… वीडियो दे दिया उसको ठीक है मैं मरने जा रही हूं… तुम्हारे ऊपर कोई नहीं आएगा…’।आयशा के माता-पिता-‘ऐसा करना भी मत कुछ भी..’।
आयशा मुस्लिम समाज की एक पढ़ी लिखी, प्रगतिशील सोच वाली नए जमाने की लड़की थी। उसने मजहबी तालीम भी ले रखी थी और वो कानून भी जानती थी। उसे ये भी पता था कि उसके ससुराल वाले जो कर रहे हैं, वो जुर्म है और इस जुर्म में उन्हें सख्त सजा हो सकती है, लेकिन इसके बाद भी आयशा हार गई।
बेटी की मौत फूट-फूटकर रोते हुए पिता और उनकी बातों ने दहेज और घरेलू हिंसा के मुद्दे पर देश के मुस्लिम समुदाय को झकझोर कर रख दिया है। उलेमाओं ने मुसलमानों से अपील की है कि न मां-बाप बेटे की शादी में दहेज लेंगे और न लड़की के मां-बाप बेटी की शादी में दहेज देंगे। जो दहेज की मांग करेगा उसका सामाजिक बहिष्कार किया जाएगा।
उधर, एआईएमआईएम के प्रमुख असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने दहेज की मांग करनेवाले और महिलाओं को दहेज के नाम पर परेशान करनेवालों को खूब लताड़ा। उन्होंने अपने भाषण में कहा-‘इस दहेज की लानत को ख़त्म करो। बीवी पर ज़ुल्म करना मर्दानगी नहीं है। बीवी को मारना मर्दानगी नहीं है। बीवी से पैसों की मांग करना मर्दानगी नहीं है। तुम मर्द कहलाने के भी लायक नहीं हो, अगर तुम ऐसी हरकत करोगे। शर्म आनी चाहिए उन घरवालों को जिन्होंने हमारी इस बेटी को मजबूर किया..मैं तो अल्लाह से दुआ करूंगा कि अल्लाह बर्बाद करे तुम लोगों को। कितनी औरतों को तुम मारोगे। कैसे तुम मर्द हो जो बच्चियों को मार रहे हो, उनकी जान ले रहे हो। क्या तुममें इंसानियत मर चुकी है और ऐसे कितने लोग हैं। जो अपनी बीवियों पर ज़ुल्म करते हैं, थप्पड़ मारते हैं। बाहर निकलकर अपने आपको फरिश्ता कहलाते हैं। याद रखो, तुम दुनिया को धोखा दे सकते हो लेकिन अल्लाह को नहीं दे सकते। याद रखो तुम अगर अपनी बीवियों को मारोगे, कल यही मार का हिसाब तुमको हश्र (कयामत के दिन) के मैदान में देना पड़ेगा। तुम कहते हो मैं मोहम्मद सल्ल्लाह-हो-अलह-ए-वसल्लम को मानने वाला हूं । अरे, शर्म से डूब मरो…तुम रसूल अल्लाह को मानने वाले हो और बच्ची को मारते हो। उस बच्ची से दहेज का मांग करते हो। अरे इस्लाम में दहेज की मांग करना हराम है…हराम है..हराम है।
ओवैसी यहीं नहीं रुके। उन्होंने आगे कहा-‘मेरे अजीज दोस्तों और बुजुर्गों इस बुराई का खात्मा हमको करना है।औरतों का साथ देना है। औरतों को कमजोर मत समझो।औरतों का साथ दो, इनको हमें समाज में आगे बढ़ाना है। अगर अल्लाह ने आपको बेटी दी तो उसे बेटे से ज्यादा काबिल बनाओ। बेटे से ज्यादा उसे इल्म दिलाओ। याद रखो, मैं भी साहेब औलाद हूं। मगर जितनी मोहब्बत मैं अपनी बेटियों में देखता हूं..अल्लाह का बहुत बड़ा करम है मुझ पर।
ओवैसी हमेशा तीखा बोलते हैं। कई बार हिंदू-मुसलमान की बात करते हैं। लेकिन ओवैसी ने बेटियों पर जुल्म के खिलाफ जो आवाज उठाई और जो बात कही, वो काबिले तारीफ है। ओवैसी की ये बात सही है कि हमारे समाज में बहू-बेटियों का जीना मुश्किल है, उन पर जुल्म की इंतेहा होती है। सिर्फ दहेज नहीं, घरेलू हिंसा, बलात्कार, गैंगरेप जैसी तमाम बुराइयां हमारे समाज में हैं। हर मिनट में एक महिला मार-पीट का शिकार होती है। देश में हर 16 मिनट में एक महिला बलात्कार का शिकार होती है। हर एक घंटे में एक गैंगरेप होता है। ये तो वो केस हैं .जो रिपोर्ट होते हैं। सोचिए कितने केस होंगे जो पता ही नहीं लगते। जिनकी रिपोर्ट दर्ज नहीं होती और दबा दिए जाते हैं। दहेज और घरेलू हिंसा को खत्म करने के लिए मौलानाओं और इमामों की ये एकजुट पहल सराहनीय है।
मैं मुस्लिम उलेमा और असुदुद्दीन ओवैसी को सलाम करता हूं जिन्होंने बेटियों पर होने वाले जुल्म को दिल से महसूस किया और बड़े साफ-साफ लफ्जों में आवाज उठाई। इसी तरह मौलाना फिरंगी महली का शुक्रिया जिन्होंने जुल्म के खिलाफ आवाज उठाई और दूसरे मौलानाओं को जागरुक किया। मैं नमन करना चाहता हूं स्वामी रामदेव, श्री श्री रविशंकर, स्वामी अवधेशानंद गिरी और महंत परमहंस दास को जिन्होंने इस मुहिम को आगे बढ़ाने में साथ दिया। बेटियों पर जुल्म के खिलाफ, दहेज के खिलाफ कानून तो हैं, लेकिन कानून की सीमाएं हैं, सिस्टम की अपनी खामियां हैं। हम सब जानते हैं इन कानूनों का कितना असर हुआ है। पुलिस अपना काम करती है। कोर्ट अपना काम करते हैं। लेकिन इनकी अपनी सीमाएं हैं।
यह देश बहुत बड़ा है। हमने देखा सब कुछ होने के बावजूद बहू-बेटियों पर अन्याय कम नहीं हुआ है। दहेज का दानव आज भी आग उगलता है और सिर्फ दहेज की बात नहीं है। कितने मर्द अपनी मर्दानगी दिखाने के लिए बीवियों से मारपीट करते हैं और उन्हें घर से निकाल देते हैं। बलात्कार जैसी घटनाएं भी सामने आती हैं। इसलिए मुझे लगता है कि कानून से भी ज्यादा लोगों की आत्मा को जगाने की जरूरत है। मंदिर, मस्जिद, गुरुद्वारा, चर्च से ये आवाज उठाने की जरुरत है। यह काम कोई एक दिन में नहीं होगा। ये नासूर है जो समाज को खा रहा है, समाज को खोखला कर रहा है। किसी भी समाज को जगाने में, जुल्म के खिलाफ आवाज उठाने और लोगों को लड़ने के लिए तैयार करने में वक्त लगता है।
मेरी आप लोगों से हाथ जोड़कर अपील है कि बेटियों को जुल्म और जालिमों से बचाने के लिए इस अभियान में हमारा साथ दें। सबसे ज़रूरी बात है कि हमारे समाज में इस तरह के जालिमों के लिए कोई जगह नहीं होनी चाहिए। जब समाज इस तरह के दानवों का का बहिष्कार करेगा, उनकी पहचान करेगा और अपने से दूर रखेगा तब शायद ऐसे लोगों को अक्ल आएगी। तो आइए हम सब मिलकर इस जुल्म के खिलाफ आवाज उठाएं।
Raise your voice against dowry and domestic violence
On Thursday night, in my primetime show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on India TV, we showed a video clip in which a married Muslim woman Ayesha Banu was telling her father to take care of himself, minutes before she committed suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad. This video has caused tremendous outrage in the Indian Muslim community over dowry and domestic violence issues.
On Friday, imams at most of the mosques appealed to people to shun dowry and stop harassing their wives and daughters-in-law. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also joined in issuing a similar appeal.
First let me narrate some facts relating to Ayesha Banu’s suicide. A resident of Almina Park in Vatva, Ahmedabad, Ayesha was a final year MA Economics student and was employed in a top private sector bank. She married Aarif Khan, a mining supervisor, after a love affair in 2018. Soon afterwards her husband and in-laws began harassing her for dowry and Ayesha was ultimately forced to take the extreme step. Aarif Khan was nabbed by Gujarat Police from Pali, Rajasthan on March 1 and is presently in custody on charges of abetment to suicide and dowry harassment.
On February 25 afternoon, her husband challenged her to commit suicide after making a video so as “to absolve him of any charges”. The girl, made a two-minute video in which she made an emotional appeal to her father Liaquat Ali Makrani requesting her not to pursue a case of domestic violence against her husband. In the video, she said she “was granting freedom to Aarif”, before jumping into the river. When her body was recovered, police initially filed an accidental death report, but when the video became viral and there was widespread outrage in the social media, Aarif Khan was booked under Sec 306 IPC (abetment to suicide).
Ayesha’s father told police that the in-laws had demanded Rs 5 lakh as dowry, but he could manage to give Rs 1.5 lakh to Aarif’s family on January 26 last year. This money was paid after a case of domestic violence was lodged against Aarif, his parents and sisters in 2019, in which Ayesha alleged that she was beaten up at her husband’s residence in Jalore, Rajasthan.
Ahmedabad Police have obtained call detail records (CDR) which show that Aarif had a 72-minute conversation with Ayesha on February 25, the day of suicide. Ayesha also had a 5-minute conversation with her parents, who pleaded her not to take the extreme step. Aarif even went to the extent of telling his wife “shoot a video message for me and then kill yourself”.
In her last video shown in ‘Aaj Ki Baat’, the girl Ayesha is telling her father: “Hello, Assalamvaleikum, My name is Ayesha. Whatever I and Aarif Khan are going to do, we are doing out of our own will. There is no force or pressure from anybody. What can I say now? The life given to me by Khuda is this much only. This was a life of peace for me. And Dad, till how long will you fight your own people? Withdraw the case. Ayesha is not meant for fighting. You love Aarif, will you now fight him? If he wants azadi (freedom), then let him be azaad (free). My life will now end. I am happy, I will meet Allah and then ask him, where was my mistake?
“I got loving parents, and friends too. But there was something missing, either in me or in my fate. I an happy, I want to leave in peace. I pray to Allah never to show me the faces of human beings. One lesson I have learnt in life: if you love somebody, it must be both-sided, not one-sided. Chalo, some love is left incomplete even after marriage. Oh river, I pray to thee, take me in your arms. Whatever happens after me, please do not create disturbance. I am like the wind, I want to move, on and on. Never stop for anybody. Today I am happy, I have all the replies to my questions. And whatever I had to tell, I have said this truthfully. That’s it. Remember me in your prayers. I don’t know, whether Heaven is there for me or not. Alvida (Farewell).”
Emotional words, these.
In the last phone conversation recorded with her father, much of the talk flows like these: “Beta where are you?… Aa rahi hoon main.(I am coming)…Where are you now?….At the riverfront, aa rahi hoon main……I am sending Montu, wait Sonu,..listen to me, Beta. …Kuch nahin sunna, Papa (I don’t want to listen)…Look, don’t do something wrong, speak to your Mom..I don’t want to listen, I want to jump into the river…Beta, don’t do this…Bahut ho gaya ab..If you do such a thing, people will say, you have not done the right thing….Let people speak whatever they like….Don’t do this…I have to jump into the water. I don’t want to live. I am tired….Don’t do this, Allah is great, He will forgive….I don’t want to listen, I don’t want him (Aarif) any more in my life. He wanted azaadi, I gave him azaadi. He said, if you are going to die, make a video of it, so that police doesn’t nab me. I said, theek hai. Made the video and gave it to him. ..”
Ayesha was a well-educated girl, a girl from Muslim community, she had a progressive outlook. She knew the Islamic teachings and also the intricacies of modern law. She knew, her in-laws were committing a crime by torturing her. But, in the end, she lost the battle.
The tearful remarks of Ayesha’s father have rocked the Indian Muslim community over the dowry and domestic violence issues. The ulema have appealed to all Muslims neither to give, nor take dowry or resort to physically and mentally torturing married girls, and warned, if they defied, they would face a social boycott.
In his powerful speech, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi chastised all Muslims who demanded dowry and harassed women. He said, “to demand dowry from your wife, to beat and torture your wife is not manhood. I appeal to all Muslims to shun the social evil of dowry. If you still demand dowry and harass women, you will lose your right to be called a Muslim man. Let Allah destroy the families who demand dowry and torture their daughters-in-law. Humanity is dead in the souls of such people. You slap, kick and beat your wives and then come out and pose as angels. Remember, you can fool society, but you cannot fool the great Allah. You claim to be followers of the great Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and yet you demand dowry from girls? You should drown in shame. Know, it is ‘haraam’ to demand dowry in Islam.”
Owaisi went on: “My dear friends and elders, we have to eradicate this evil (dowry). Do not consider women as weak. Help women. We have to take women with us in moving our society towards progress. If the great Allah has given you a daughter, give her education and make her more capable than your son. Look, I was also born as a son to my parents, but I shower my love to my daughters.”
I salute Owaisi for his forceful speech. Normally, all of us have the impression that whenever Owaisi speaks, it is mostly on Hindu-Muslim issues, but this time he was speaking on eradicating a social evil that has bedevilled our society since ages. Every minute a woman in India is beaten up due to domestic violence, every 16 minute a woman is raped in India, every hour there is one gangrape in our country. These are those cases that are reported to police. There are innumerable number of cases that are never reported and brushed under the carpet. It is nice to find all maulanas and imams rising unitedly to appeal to their brethren to shun dowry and domestic violence.
I salute Muslim ulema and Owaisi who have taken up this social cause. I also salute yog guru Swami Ramdev, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and other Hindu saints like Swami Avadheshanand Giri and Mahant Paramhans Das, who spoke against dowry in my show. There are stringent laws against dowry and domestic violence in Indian statute books, but these laws have certain limits. India is a vast country. In spite of enacting tough legislations, the evils of dowry and domestic violence continue in the lives of married girls. Rapes and gangrapes continue despite stringent laws.
I believe, apart from strict legislations, spreading of social awareness is the need of the hour. Voices against dowry and domestic violence must rise from temples, mosques, gurdwaras and churches. This cannot be achieved in a day or two. It is a long, uphill struggle. Preparing a society for the betterment of women by spreading awareness will take a long, long time.
With folded hands, I appeal to all of you, to raise your voices for eradicating the social evils of dowry and domestic violence. These twin evils are eating into our society, like cancer. Until and unless, our society boycotts those devils who torture girls in the name of dowry, the battle can never be won. Such devils must have no place in our society.
We, as conscious citizens, must identify and boycott such devils, so that they can realize their follies. Let us all unitedly raise our voice against social evils like dowry and domestic violence.
पीएम मोदी और उनकी मां के प्रति अपशब्द, किसान नेताओं को निंदा करनी चाहिए
आज मैं आपसे एक ऐसे विषय के बारे में बात करना चाहता हूं जिसे लेकर मेरे मन में बेहद नाराजगी, दुख और तकलीफ है। बीबीसी साउंड्स के रेडियो शो में देश के प्रधानमंत्री और उनकी मां के बारे में अपमानजनक बातें कही गईं, अपशब्दों का इस्तेमाल किया गया। यह बात ऐसी है जिसे सुनने के बाद किसी का भी खून खौल उठेगा। दरअसल, बीबीसी एशियन नेटवर्क पर एक मार्च को ‘बिग डिबेट’ कार्यक्रम के पॉडकास्ट के दौरान एक टेलीफोन कॉलर ने पीएम मोदी और उनकी 99 वर्ष की मां हीराबेन के लिए अपशब्दों का प्रयोग किया। इससे न केवल इस शो की होस्ट (मेजबान) प्रिया राय भौंचक रह गईं बल्कि इसे सुन रहे हजारों श्रोता भी सकते में आ गए। उन्हें भी बहुत बुरा लगा।
ब्रिटेन में सिखों और भारतीयों के साथ होनेवाले नस्लीय भेदभाव के मुद्दों पर केंद्रीत तीन घंटे लंबे धारावाहिक ‘ईस्टएंडर्स’ के दौरान सिखों की पगड़ी को ‘ताज’ कहा गया। यह शो जैसे-जैसे आगे बढ़ा एक टेलीफोन कॉलर भी इसमें शामिल हो गया। इस कॉलर का नाम साइमन था और उसने हमारे प्रधानमंत्री और उनकी मां के लिए अपशब्दों का प्रयोग किया। इस शो की होस्ट ने जबतक उसे रोकना चाहा तबतक वह अपना काम कर चुका था। ब्रिटिश इंडियंस वॉयस नाम के एक ग्रुप ने ट्विटर पर पोस्ट किया कि ‘यह एक सामान्य पंजाबी आक्रामक और अपमानजनक टिप्पणी है। इसका उपयोग महिलाओं को अपमानित करने और उन्हें नीचा दिखाने के उद्देश्य से किया जाता है।’
भारत और विदेशों में सोशल मीडिया पर भारी नाराजगी के बाद तीन घंटे के पॉडकास्ट के रिकॉर्ड वर्जन को एडिट (संपादित) कर आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणी को हटा दिया गया। अब जो वर्जन उपलब्ध है उसमें होस्ट के तरफ से माफी मांगी गई है। इसमें कहा गया है, ‘इससे पहले कि आगे बढ़ें, हम कुछ अभद्र भाषा के लिए फिर से माफी मांगते हैं जो इससे पहले के शो में मेहमानों द्वारा कहा गया। यह एक लाइव शो है और हम अक्सर विवादास्पद मुद्दों पर चर्चा करते हैं। कहीं से उस तरह की भाषा के प्रयोग की कोई वजह नहीं थी जिसका यहां इस्तेमाल किया गया। अगर इससे किसी का अपमान हुआ है तो मैं एकबार फिर खेद जताना चाहती हूं।’
बीबीसी दक्षिण एशिया के ब्यूरो चीफ निकोला केरीम ने ट्विटर पर कहा, ‘किसी भी लाइव प्रसारण के समय हम इस बात का बहुत ध्यान रखते हैं कि सभी कॉलर्स को एयर करने से पहले उन्हें उनकी भाषा के बारे में जानकारी दी जाए। इस बार हमने किसी अपराध के कारण श्रोताओं से दो बार माफी मांगी। कार्यक्रम को बीबीसी के संपादकीय गाइडलाइंस (दिशानिर्देशों) के अनुरूप रखते हुए आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणियों को एडिट कर हटा दिया गया है। इसमें हिस्सा लेनेवाले शख्स को कार्यक्रम से पहले दिखाया गया और वह लाइव शो के दौरान भाषा के उपयोग को लेकर बीबीसी की सख्त गाइडलाइंस से अच्छी तरह वाकिफ था।’
हालांकि ब्रिटिश इंडियंस वॉइस ने मांग की कि मीडिया रेग्यूलेटर ऑफकॉम (ऑफिस ऑफ कम्यूनिकेशन) को बीबीसी एशियन नेटवर्क के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करनी चाहिए। लोग इस घटना काफी नाराज थे और थोड़ी देर में ही ट्विटर पर बॉयकाट बीबीसी (#BoycottBBC) और बैनबीबीसी (#BanBBC) जैसे हैशटैग तेजी से ट्रेंड करने लगा।
मैं इस घटना से काफी हैरान और दुखी हूं।बात ऐसी है जो ना किसी को सुननी चाहिए, ना किसी को कहनी चाहिए। आप भी सुनेंगे तो आपको भी गुस्सा आएगा, तकलीफ होगी और खून खौल उठेगा। बुधवार की रात अपने प्राइमटाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने इसपर पूरी रिपोर्ट दिखाई। ये बात बताना जरूरी इसलिए है ताकि सबको पता चले कि नरेन्द्र मोदी का विरोध करने वाले कितने घटिया स्तर पर उतर आए हैं। और इस बार बात सिर्फ नरेन्द्र मोदी तक ही सीमित नहीं रही, सारी मर्यादाएं उस वक्त पार हो गईं जब नरेन्द्र मोदी की बूढ़ी मां के लिए भी अपशब्द कहे गए।
यह एक बीमार मानसिकता की गंभीर अभिव्यक्ति है। भारत में यह कानूनी प्रावधानों के अंतर्गत गंभीर अपराध की श्रेणी में आता है। हमारी संस्कृति में मां को भगवान का दर्जा दिया गया है। अधिकांश भारतीय घरों में एक मां को देवी के रूप में पूजा जाता है। दुनिया के हर धर्म में मां का आदर करना सिखाया गया है। मां के लिए अपशब्दों का इस्तेमाल करने वाला इंसान तो नहीं हो सकता।
सबसे चौंकाने वाली बात तो ये है कि यह अपशब्द ऐसे शख्स के द्वारा कहा गया जो देश में धऱने पर बैठे किसानों का समर्थन कर रहा था। लेकिन इस हैवान का न तो किसानों से कुछ लेना-देना है और न हमारे देश से।
आज मैं यह पूछना चाहता हूं: कहां है वो किसान नेता जिन्हें उन्हीं के कुछ समर्थकों ने खालिस्तानी कह दिया था तो वो गुस्सा हो गए थे? आज जब उनके नाम पर एक गिरे हुए व्यक्ति ने प्रधानमंत्री की मां के लिए अपशब्द कहा तो ये लोग खामोश क्यों हैं? विरोध के नाम पर इस तरह की घटिया हरकत को किसी कीमत पर बर्दाश्त नहीं किया जा सकता। देश के प्रधानमंत्री के खिलाफ अपशब्द कहना हर हिन्दुस्तानी का अपमान है। देश का प्रधानमंत्री कोई व्यक्ति नहीं होता। वह देश के एक सौ तीस करोड़ लोगों का नुमाइंदा है। दुनिया के सबसे बड़े लोकतन्त्र का सबसे बड़ा नेता, सिर्फ एक व्यक्ति नहीं बल्कि खुद संस्था होता है। उसके खिलाफ इस तरह के अपमानजनक शब्दों के इस्तेमाल को कैसे स्वीकार किया जा सकता है।
बीबीसी सबसे पुराना मीडिया संस्थान है। दुनिया में बीबीसी का सम्मान है, लोग इज्जत से देखते हैं और भरोसा करते हैं। लेकिन अगर इस तरह के लोग बीबीसी का इस्तेमाल करते हैं तो बीबीसी को बिना शर्त माफी मांगनी चाहिए। ये शर्मनाक हरकत ‘बीबीसी एशियन नेटवर्क’ के एक लाइव डिबेट शो में हुई। प्रोग्राम की होस्ट किसी साइमन से बात कर रही थी और इसी दौरान साइमन ने पंजाबी में पीएम मोदी की मां के बारे में अपशब्द कहा। उसने खुद को इस तरह से पेश किया जैसे वो सिख हो। उसने पंजाबी में ही अपशब्द कहे, लेकिन जो बात उसने कही उससे सबका सिर शर्म से झुक गया। दिल्ली सिख गुरुद्वारा प्रबंधक कमेटी के अध्यक्ष मनजिंदर सिंह सिरसा ने हमारे शो में कहा कि जिसने ये हरकत की है वो कुछ भी हो, लेकिन सिख नहीं हो सकता। क्योंकि सच्चा सिख मां-बहन का अपमान कर ही नहीं सकता।
अकाल तख्त के कार्यवाहक जत्थेदार ज्ञानी हरप्रीत सिंह ने कहा: ‘किसान आंदोलन को लेकर लोगों में गुस्सा है लेकिन गुस्से को व्यक्त करने के लिए प्रधानमंत्री के खिलाफ अभद्र भाषा का कभी समर्थन नहीं किया जा सकता। एक सच्चा सिख कभी-भी मां-बहन के प्रति अपशब्द नहीं कहेगा। प्रधानमंत्री या किसी सिख को भी अपमानित करना एक असभ्य समाज का संकेत है। मैं सभी सिख भाइयों और बहनों से अपील करना चाहूंगा कि वे अपनी भाषा पर नियंत्रण रखें और प्रधानमंत्री या किसी भी व्यक्ति के प्रति अपशब्दों के प्रयोग से बचें। किसी दुश्मन के प्रति भी अपशब्दों का प्रयोग नहीं करना चाहिए और हर किसी को ऐसी बातों से बचना चाहिए।’
जत्थेदार हरप्रीत सिंह की बात सही है। सिख धर्म में मां का सम्मान सबसे ऊपर है और एक सिख कभी किसी मां के प्रति ऐसे अपशब्द नहीं कहेगा। ये सब सिखों को बदनाम करने की साजिश का हिस्सा हो सकता है। ये नफरत फैलाने की कोशिश और लोगों को आपस में लड़वाने की हरकत है। ये सब एक डिजाइन के तहत हो रहा है। भारत की छवि को खराब करने की एक नीयत से किया जा रहा है। नरेन्द्र मोदी को बदनाम करने की मुहिम के तहत हो रहा है। मोदी विरोध की ये मुहिम विदेशों से चल रही है।हम सबको सावधान रहने की जरूरत है। ऐसी बातों पर अपने ज्जबात को काबू में रखने की जरूरत है। ऐसा करनेवालों की घोर निंदा करने की जरूरत है। लेकिन चिंता तब होती है जब इस तरह की मुहिम का हमारे देश में ही बैठे कुछ लोग समर्थन करते हैं। जब हमारे देश में अपने ही लोग नफरत की आग को हवा देने की कोशिश करते हैं तो और दुख होता है। कुछ राजनीतिक दल नेता यह झूठ फैलाने में लगे हैं कि भारत में अघोषित आपातकाल लगाया गया है। आप खुद अंदाजा लगा सकते हैं कि ये नेता कौन हैं।
Farmer leaders must condemn abuses hurled at Modi and his mother
Today I write with a tinge of sadness about a BBC Sounds radio show. The expletives that were hurled at our Prime Minister and his mother will make any Indian’s blood boil in rage. During the March 1 episode of the ‘Big Debate’ podcast by BBC Asian Network, a telephone caller hurled expletives at Modi and his 99-year-old venerable mother Hiraben, leaving the lady show host Priya Rai aghast and shocking thousands of listeners.
During the three-hour-long podcast soap opera ‘Eastenders’, that focuses mainly on issues of racial discrimination faced by Sikhs and Indians in the UK, the Sikh turban was referred to as a ‘crown’. As the show proceeded, a telephone caller by the name of Simon joined the programme and abused our Prime Minister and his mother. The host was taken aback. She asked the caller to wait, but by then, the damage had been done. A group called British Indians Voice posted the remark on Twitter saying ‘this is a common Punjabi offensive slur that is used to degrade women with the sole purpose to offend’.
Following massive outrage over social media, both in India and abroad, the recorded version of the three-hour podcast was later edited and the offensive remark was removed. The version now available online carries an apology from the host which said “Before we carry on though, we just like to apologize again for some of the offensive language that was used by guests on the show earlier. It’s a live show and we discuss controversial issues often….There was no reason for the type of language that was used and I would like to say sorry again for any offence that was caused.”
BBC South Asia Bureau Chief Nicola Careem said on Twitter: “As with any live broadcast, we take great care to ensure all callers are briefed about their language before going on air. On this occasion we apologised to listeners twice afterwards for any offence caused. The programme has been edited on BBC Sounds to remove the offensive comments, keeping in line with the BBC’s editorial guidelines. The contributor has been featured on the programme before and was well aware of the BBC’s strict guidelines for language during live shows.”
The group British Indians Voice, however, demanded that the media regulator Ofcom (Office Of Communications) must take action against BBC Asian Network. On Twitter, there was huge outrage with trending hashtags #BoycottBBC #BanBBC .
I am shocked and pained over this incident. Such an offensive remark cannot and should not be heard by any self-respecting listener. If you, dear reader, listen to these expletives, your blood too, will boil in rage. I mentioned this in my primetime show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Wednesday night, because I wanted the world to know the extent to which Modi’s critics can go for spewing venom not only against him, but against his old mother.
This is a crudest manifestation of a sick mindset. In India, it comes within the legal provision that amounts to committing a gruesome crime. Our Indian culture and ethos accord the highest respect for mothers. A mother is worshipped as a goddess in most of the Indian homes. Almost all the major religions of the world preach how to accord respect to mothers. A man who can hurl abuses at a mother does not deserve to be called a human being.
The most shocking aspect was that this shameful hurling of abuse was made by a man who professed to support the ongoing farmers’ agitation in India. The fact is, this abuser had nothing to do with farmers or with India.
Today I want to ask: Where are those farmer leaders who used to bristle with rage when people used the word ‘Khalistani’ for some of their supporters? Why are they silent when a man, in the guise of supporting their cause, hurled abuses at our Prime Minister’s mother? Such a crass act in the name of dissent can never be tolerated. To abuse the Prime Minister of a nation amounts to abusing every Indian. A Prime Minister is not an individual. He or she is the face of the nation, the abuse was against the august office of Prime Minister.
BBC is one of the oldest media houses in the world and it commands respect in the minds of viewers and listeners across the globe. But if such abusers misuse its platform, it devolves on the BBC to tender an unconditional apology. Since the listener used the name ‘Simon’ on the show and abused in Punjabi, the common impression that was created was that he could be a Sikh. But this may not be true. A Sikh worth his salt can never hurl such vile abuses against a mother. This is what Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on our show. “A true Sikh will never abuse sisters and mothers”, he said.
The acting Jathedar of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, Giani Harpreet Singh said: “There is anger among people over the farmers’ agitation but use of foul language against the Prime Minister to express anger cannot be supported. A true Sikh will never hurl abuses against sisters and mothers. Abusing the Prime Minister or even a Sikh, is a sign of an uncivilized society. I would like to appeal to all Sikh brothers and sisters to keep control over their language and refrain from abusing the Prime Minister or any individual. Even abusing an enemy is not acceptable. Everybody should refrain from such acts.”
The Jathedar is right. A Sikh will never use crude expletives to abuse an old woman. It is a conspiracy to defame the Sikhs. This could be part of a campaign to spread hate and drive a wedge between communities in India. It could be part of a grand design to defame India’s image. The enemies of India are sitting abroad and they are trying to defame Narendra Modi. One feels sad when some of our own political leaders provide grist to the mills by spreading the false narrative that an undeclared Emergency has been imposed in India. No prize for guessing who these leaders are.
कोविड पर विजय: मोदी के आलोचकों को अब अपनी सोच बदलने की ज़रूरत है
भारत की जनता ने लाखों की तादाद में कोविड वैक्सीन लेकर इन टीकों के बारे में तमाम बेबुनियाद अटकलों और अफवाहों पर विराम लगा दिया है। जिस वैक्सीन को लेकर लोगों को डराया गया उसी कोरोना वैक्सीन को लगवाने के लिए हजारों की संख्या में लोग सरकारी और निजी अस्पतालों में पहुंचे। देशव्यापी टीकाकरण अभियान का आगाज़ शानदार तरीके से हुआ है। मंगलवार की शाम तक 60 साल से अधिक आयु वर्ग में 4 लाख से अधिक बुजुर्गों और 45 से 60 आयु वर्ग के 60 हजार से अधिक लोगों को वैक्सीन की पहली डोज लगाई गई । पिछले 36 घंटों में पचास लाख से ज्यादा लोगों ने वैक्सीनेशन के लिए खुद को CoWin पोर्टल पर रजिस्टर करवाया है।
ये इस बात का सबूत है कि स्वदेशी वैक्सीन को लेकर जो अफवाहें फैलाई गईं थीं, जिस तरह से लोगों को डराया गया था, देश के लोगों ने उस अफवाह तंत्र को बुरी तरह हरा दिया। ये इस बात का भी सबूत है कि अगर देश का नेतृत्व मजबूत हो तो बड़ी से बड़ी जंग को जीता जा सकता है।
दुनिया के तमाम बड़े-बड़े लोग भारत में वैक्सीनेशन ड्राइव को लेकर आशंका जता रहे थे। ये दावा किया जा रहा था कि पहले तो भारत में 135 करोड़ लोगों तक वैक्सीन पहुंचाना और सभी को वैक्सीन लगाना संभव नहीं है लेकिन सोमवार को जब सबसे पहले प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने खुद वैक्सीन लगवाई तो देश भर में माहौल बदल गया। मोदी के इस कदम से लोगों का भरोसा मजबूत हो गया और लोग घरों से निकले, और खुद-ब-खुद वैक्सीनेशन सेंटर तक पहुंचे।
मंगलवार रात मेरे प्राइम टाइम शो ‘आज की बात’ में हमने दिखाया कि कैसे मुंबई, नागपुर, पुणे, पटना, कोलकाता, गुरूग्राम, बैंगलौर, भोपाल और जयपुर जैसे तमाम शहरों में बुजुर्ग बिना किसी डर के, बिना किसी शक के कोरोना वैक्सीन लगवाने के लिए हॉस्पिटल्स पहुंच गए। नागपुर में जबरदस्त गर्मी शुरू हो गई है। टेंपरेचर 39 डिग्री तक पहुंच गया है लेकिन इतनी गर्मी के बावजूद अस्पताल के बाहर कई लोग अपनी बारी का इंतजार करते रहे। मुंबई के नेस्को ग्राउंड के वैक्सीनेश सेंटर में पर भी हजारों की संख्या में लोग इक्ट्ठा हुए। यहां बीएमसी ने कोरोना वैक्सीनेशन सेंटर बनाया, लोगों के रजिस्ट्रेशन से लेकर उनके वैक्सीनेशन तक सारा प्रोसेस यहीं हो रहा है लेकिन शुरुआती टैकनिकल ग्लिच के बाद, कन्फ्यूजन के बाद, सिस्टम ने सामान्य रूप से काम करना शुरू किया और लोगों को टीका लगा।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने जब खुद टीका लगाया तो उससे दूसरों को यह संदेश गया कि वैक्सीन सुरक्षित है, इसलिए भी कई लोग अचानक वैक्सीनेशन सेंटर्स पहुंचने लगे। लोग ये जानते हैं कि भीड़ बढ़ने से कोरोना का खतरा है। लोग ये भी जानते हैं कि बुजुर्ग लोगों को खतरा सबसे ज्यादा है, इसके बाद भी लोग बिना रजिस्ट्रेशन के वैक्सीन लगवाने के लिए हॉस्पिटल पहुंच गए। ये चिंता की बात है। हालांकि इस की वजह सिस्टम में कमियां है। असल में सरकार ने लोगों को पूरी जानकारी नहीं दी। सिस्टम को पूरी तरह से चैक नहीं किया, रजिस्ट्रेशन के प्रोसेस आसान नहीं बनाया, इसलिए ज्यादातर लोग सीधे हॉस्पिटल पहुंच गए लेकिन ऐसा भी नहीं था कि हर जगह इसी तरह की भीड़ हुई।
मुंबई में 44 जगहों पर वैक्सीनेशन हो रहा है। ये अच्छी बात है कि वैक्सीनेशन के प्रति लोगों में उत्साह है लेकिन ये भी सही है कि कोरोना के नये मामलों में महाराष्ट्र में इस वक्त नंबर वन है। आज महाराष्ट्र में कोरोना के 7,863 नए केस आए हैं इनमें से सिर्फ मुबंई में 849 नए मरीज थे, इसलिए मुंबई के लोगों को थोड़े दिन सब्र से काम लेना चाहिए। वैक्सीन के लिए सीधे हॉस्पिटल पहुंचने के बजाए अपनी बारी का इंतजार करना चाहिए। जो हाल मुंबई का है वही हाल नागपुर का है। नागपुर में पिछले छह दिन में छह हजार से ज्यादा केस सामने आए हैं। एक हफ्ते से लगातार रोज एक हजार से ज्यादा केस सामने आ रहे हैं। पिछले चौबीस घंटे में नागपुर में कोरोना के 877 नए मामले सामने आए हैं।
बता दूं कि इस वक्त हमारे देश में जो वैक्सीनेशन ड्राइव चल रही है, उतनी बड़ी टीकाकरण मुहिम दुनिया में कभी नहीं हुई। दूसरे फेज में करीब चालीस करोड़ लोगों को वैक्सीनेट किया जाएगा। ये संख्या अमेरिका की कुल आबादी के सवा गुना है। आज देश के लाखों बुजुर्ग जिस उत्साह के साथ वैक्सीन लगवाने निकले, उसे देख कर एक नई उम्मीद बंधी वरना तो हम एक ऐसी मानसिकता में जीने के आदी हो चुके हैं कि लगता है हमारे देश में कुछ भी ठीक से नहीं हो सकता।
जब कोरोना महामारी का प्रकोप शुरू हुआ तो बहुत से लोगों ने कहा कि हमारे यहां लोग हजारों की तादाद में कीड़े मकोड़ों की तरह मरेंगे। हमारे यहां न डॉक्टर् हैं न हॉस्पिटल न दवा, कोई बचा नहीं सकता। ऐसी महामारी से लड़ने के लिए हमारी स्वास्थ्य सेवा तैयार नहीं है, पीपीई किट, वैंटीलेटर मास्क, सैनेटाइजर नहीं है लेकिन पिछले एक साल में जो हुआ वो हम सबने देखा। कोरोना से बीमार हुए लोगों को वैटीलेटर भी मिले, हॉस्पिटल भी मिले और आइसोलेशन वार्ड भी। डॉक्टर्स को पीपीई किट मिले, जनता को मास्क मिले, सेनेटाइजर मिले।
जब लॉकडाउन का ऐलान हुआ तो कहा गया कि कोई सुनेगा नहीं, कोई घर में बैठेगा नहीं। हमारे देश में लॉकडाउन हो ही नहीं सकता। आप देख लेना ये फेल हो जाएगा लेकिन लॉकडाउन भी सफल रहा। देश भर मे महामारी फैलने से रुकी।
इसके बाद जब वैक्सीन की बात आई तो पहले कहा गया कि हम तो कोई वैक्सीन बना ही नहीं सकते। जब बना ली तो कहा ये किसी काम की नहीं है, इसका तो ट्रायल ठीक से नहीं हुआ, दुनिया में इसे कोई मानेगा नहीं। जब दुनिया ने मान्यता दी, WHO ने माना तो निराशावादी कहने लगे कि इतने बड़े देश में वैक्सीन पहुंच ही नहीं सकती लेकिन ये धारणा भी गलत साबित हुई। आज हर जगह कोवैक्सीन उपलब्ध है। वैक्सीन विज्ञानसम्मत है, सुरक्षित है। अब जो लोग भारत की क्षमता को लेकर विलाप करते थे उन्हें एक बार सोचना चाहिए। दुनिया के दूसरे विकसित देशों के मुकाबले हमने कोरोना पर बेहतर तरीके से काबू पाया। वैक्सीन बनाई, अपने लोगों तक पहुंचाई और दुनिया के कई मुल्कों को इसकी सप्लाई की।
आज हम गर्व के साथ कह सकते हैं कि भारत ने विकसित देशों की तुलना में कोविड महामारी की चुनौती का बेहतर तरीके से सामना किया। मंगलवार को केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय ने दावा किया कि अब भारत में महामारी कमोबेश नियंत्रण में है। भारत में सक्रिय कोविड मामले अब 2 प्रतिशत से कम हैं। मृत्यु दर में भी बड़ी गिरावट आई है। ठीक हुए मरीजों का अनुपात नए मामलों की तुलना में अधिक है। केवल दो राज्यों, महाराष्ट्र और केरल में पिछले दो हफ्तों में नए मामलों में वृद्धि हुई। भारत में इस वक्त 1.68 लाख सक्रिय कोविड मामलों में से, दो राज्यों, महाराष्ट्र और केरल में 1.26 लाख मामले हैं।
कोविड महामारी को नियंत्रित करने में भारत की सफलता ने कई लोगों को एक नई उम्मीद दी है। आज देश के बुजुर्ग जिस उत्साह के साथ, हिम्मत के साथ वैक्सीन लगवाने निकले, वह इस बात की पुष्टि करता है। उनके चेहरों पर आत्मविश्वास साफ झलक रहा था। वे जानते हैं कि भारत ने इस कोविड महामारी से यह जंग लगभग जीत ली है।
लाखों लोग अब वैक्सीन लगवा रहे हैं, ये अपने आप में बहुत बड़ी उपलब्धि है। अब जो लोग भारत की क्षमता को लेकर विलाप करते थे, जिन्हें न जनता पर विश्वास था, न प्रधानमंत्री पर, उन्हें एक बार सोचना चाहिए। दुनिया के दूसरे देशों के मुकाबले हमने कोरोना पर बेहतर तरीके से काबू पाया। जो बात पूरी दुनिया मान रही है, उसे सिर्फ इसलिए न माने कि क्रेडिट मोदी को चला जाएगा ? इस सोच को बदलने की जरूरत है। जनता की मानसिकता बदल रही है, नेताओं की सोच बदलने की जरूरत है।
Covid: Critics may not accept Modi’s success, but they now need to change their mindset
The people of India have nixed all baseless speculations and rumours about Covid vaccines by lining up in thousands at government and private hospitals to get vaccines. The nationwide vaccination drive is off to a roaring start with over 4 lakh elderly people in the 60-plus age group and more than 60 thousand in 45-60 age group with co-morbidities taking vaccines as of Tuesday evening. More than 50 lakh Indians have so far registered on CoWin portal to get the vaccine.
The writing on the wall is now clear: all dire warnings about the indigenously developed Covaxin have now been proved baseless, judging by the huge turnout of people. This stupendous success has been possible because of a strong national leadership that has the political will to think big and achieve its goals.
Many experts had raised suspicions about whether the government would be able to vaccinate the entire 135 crore population spread over this vast country. On Monday, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi led from the front by taking the Covaxin jab, millions of Indians decided to come out and get their first vaccine dose.
In my primetime show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Tuesday night, we showed visuals of people in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Gurugram, Patna, Bhopal and Pune, lining up at hospitals to take the jab. Old and infirm people mustered courage and confidence to take their first dose. Braving 39 degree Celsius heat in Nagpur, people were seen standing in queues waiting for their turn to get vaccinated. Thousands turned up at the Nesco ground in Mumbai, where the BMC had set up a Covid vaccination centre for old people to get their names registered, take appointment and get their jabs. Despite early glitches, the system worked fine as hundreds of people got themselves vaccinated.
There were some shortcomings though. The government and local authorities could have advised people how to get their names registered and take appointments instead of crowding at hospitals. People in Mumbai were getting vaccinated at 44 spots. This, in a state like Maharashtra, which noticed a spike of 7,863 new Covid cases on Tuesday, out of which Mumbai accounted for 849 and Nagpur 877. More than six thousand new Covid cases were recorded in Nagpur in the last six days alone.
The nationwide vaccination drive is no mean task. More than 40 crore Indians in the age group 45 and above will get vaccinated in the current Phase 2. This is more than double the population of USA. One feels gratified seeing visuals of hundreds of old and infirm people waiting in hospitals to get their Covid jab. This, in a country, where the normal till now was: Nothing works in India.
When the Covid pandemic broke, there were dire predictions that lakhs of Indians will die like cats and dogs due to lack of treatment because of lack of doctors, PPE, masks, oxygen, ventilators and hospitals. This was proved wrong. Doctors and healthcare workers in hospitals got masks, PPEs, sanitizers and ventilators to treat the Covid patients.
When the nationwide lockdown was announced, many people predicted that Indians will not accept confinement inside their homes and will defy lockdown. This premonition was proved wrong.
When scientists in UK, USA, Russia and China started work on Covid vaccines, there were people who said we cannot manufacture vaccines in India and we will be at the mercy of other countries. This, too, was also proved wrong. Today, India can say with pride that it is the largest manufacturer of Covid vaccines and is supplying vaccines to small countries that are in dire need. The World Health Organization has praised India’s work in the field of Covid vaccination. Pessimists in India were proved wrong.
Today India can say with pride that it has tackled Covid pandemic better compared to even developed countries. On Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry claimed that the pandemic is now, more or less, under control in India. Active Covid cases in India is now less than 2 per cent. There has been a big decline in the death rate too. The proportion of patients who recovered is higher compared to new Covid cases. Except two states, Maharashtra and Kerala, which have noted a spike in new Covid cases in the last two weeks. Out of 1.68 lakh active cases in India, there are 1.26 lakh cases in the two states of Maharashtra and Kerala.
India’s success in controlling Covid pandemic has brought a new energy among the multitudes. This is evident from the large number of old people who are going to hospitals to get themselves vaccinated. Their faces exude confidence and energy. They know that the war is almost won.
Such visuals of thousands of old people waiting to get vaccinated have forced critics to shut their mouths. Even as the world praises India and its government, those in the opposition may feel hesitant in praising and giving due credit to Narendra Modi. Credit or no credit, the message that has gone out is clear: the war against Covid is almost won. The naysayers need to change their world view. The common people in India have changed their mindset, it is time our ‘netas’ too must also change their line of thinking.
कोरोना का टीका लगवाकर मोदी ने यूं किया प्रेरित
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने सोमवार को 60 साल से ज्यादा उम्र के सभी भारतीयों को कोरोना वैक्सीन लगाने के बड़े अभियान की शुरुआत को फ्रंट से लीड किया। वह बगैर किसी शोर-शराबे के चुपचाप अपने सरकारी आवास 7, लोक कल्याण मार्ग से सुबह 6 बजे निकल गए। वह बगैर किसी खास सुरक्षा प्रोटोकॉल के गाड़ियों के एक छोटे काफिले में एम्स पहुंचे। वहां दक्षिण भारत की 2 नर्सों ने उन्हें कौवैक्सीन का टीका लगाया। आधे घंटे तक ऑब्जर्वेशन में रहने के बाद मोदी अपने आवास पर लौट आए, और दुनिया को इस बात की खबर देने के लिए सोशल मीडिया पर तस्वीरें पोस्ट कर दीं। ऐसा कर उन्होंने देश में ही विकसित कोरोना वायरस की वैक्सीन (Covaxin) के प्रति बगैर कुछ कहे ही अपना भरोसा दिखा दिया जिसपर कुछ विशेषज्ञों ने हाल ही में इसके असर के बारे में पर्याप्त डेटा की कमी को लेकर सवाल उठाए थे।
मोदी ने ट्वीट किया, ‘मैं उन सभी लोगों से कोरोना वायरस का टीका लगवाने की अपील करता हूं, जो इसके पात्र हैं। आइए, हम सब मिलकर भारत को कोविड-19 से मुक्त बनाएं।’ उपराष्ट्रपति एम. वेंकैया नायडू और गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने भी सोमवार को टीका लगवाया। 2 मुख्यमंत्रियों, बिहार के नीतीश कुमार और ओडिशा के नवीन पटनायक, ने भी वैक्सीन की पहली डोज ली।
विपक्ष के कुछ नेताओं ने, जिनमें से ज्यादातर कांग्रेस से थे, मोदी द्वारा वैक्सीन लेने के तरीके पर सवाल उठाए। प्रधानमंत्री के कंधे पर एक असमिया गमोशा (गमछा) था, और जिन 2 नर्सों ने उन्हें वैक्सीन लगाई वे केरल और पुदुचेरी से थीं। विपक्षी नेताओं ने इस चीज को इन राज्यों के आगामी विधानसभा चुनावों से जोड़ दिया। लोकसभा में कांग्रेस संसदीय दल के नेता अधीर रंजन चौधरी ने कहा, ‘तस्वीर में मोदी ने असम का गमछा ले रखा था, केरल और पुदुचेरी की नर्स थीं। इन राज्यों में चुनाव होने वाले हैं। यदि प्रधानमंत्री ने महर्षि अरविंदो की फोटो और रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर की गीतांजलि भी अपने हाथ में ले ली होती तो तस्वीर पूरी हो जाती।’
अधीर रंजन चौधरी के बयान पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य मंत्री डॉक्टर हर्षवर्धन ने कहा कि इतने बड़े मिशन में इतनी छोटी बात ठीक नहीं हैं, कम से कम यह लड़ाई सब मिलकर लड़ें। उन्होंने कहा, ‘इस मुद्दे पर राजनीति न हो तो बेहतर है।’ लेकिन राजनीति किसी के रोकने से थोड़े रूकती है। राज्यसभा में विपक्ष के नेता मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे ने एक नया शिगूफा छोड़ दिया। उन्होंने कहा, ‘बेहतर होता कि बुजुर्गों से पहले नौजवानों को वैक्सीन दी जाती, क्योंकि बुजुर्ग तो अपनी जिंदगी जी चुके हैं जबकि नौजवानों के सामने पूरी जिंदगी पड़ी है।’ खड़गे को भी डॉक्टर हर्षवर्धन ने ही जबाव दिया। उन्होंने कहा, दुनिया जानती है कि बुजुर्गों को कोरोना से ज्यादा खतरा है, और उन्हें दूसरों पर वरीयता दी जानी चाहिए। डॉक्टर हर्षवर्धन ने कहा, ‘मैं तो चाहूंगा कि खड़गे जी जल्द ही वैक्सीन की डोज ले लें, और युवाओं को अपनी बारी का इंतजार करने दें।’
AIMIM सुप्रीमो असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने कहानी में एक नया ट्विस्ट जोड़ते हुए कहा कि जर्मनी की सरकार कहती है कि सीरम इंस्टीट्यूट में बनी कोविशील्ड सिर्फ 18 से 64 साल के लोगों पर असरदार है, इससे ऊपर की उम्र वालों पर इसका कोई खास असर नहीं होता है। ओवैसी ने प्रधानमंत्री से स्पष्टीकरण मांगा कि कोविशील्ड 64 साल से ज्यादा उम्र के लोगों के लिए प्रभावी है या नहीं। ओवैसी के इन सवालों का जवाब कानून मंत्री रविशंकर प्रसाद ने दिया। प्रसाद ने कहा, ऐसे समय में जब दुनिया कोविड वैक्सीनेशन में भारत की बड़ी भूमिका को स्वीकार कर रही है, तमाम देश हिंदुस्तान का लोहा मान रहे हैं, विरोधी दलों को भी अपना रवैया बदलना चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि आगे भी सियासत के तमाम मौके आएंगे, लेकिन इस मुद्दे पर राजनीति बंद होनी चाहिए।
दोनों केंद्रीय मंत्रियों की बातें सही हैं। कोविड के मुद्दे पर सियासत नहीं होनी चाहिए, लेकिन इसके बाद भी सियासत होगी और खूब होगी। इस मुद्दे पर राजनीति तबसे हो रही है जबसे कोरोना के खिलाफ जंग शुरू हुई। मोदी ने लोगों में जोश भऱने के लिए, डर खत्म करने के लिए 5 मिनट के लिए कोरोना के खिलाफ शंखनाद करने की अपील की तो उसका मजाक बनाया गया। फिर जब कोरोना वॉरियर्स को सपोर्ट देने के लिए उनके सम्मान में कैंडल लाइट जलाने की अपील की तो पूरे देश ने सपोर्ट किया, लेकिन विरोधी दलों के नेताओं ने हंसी उड़ाई। इसके बाद जब वैक्सीन तैयार हुई, वैक्सीनेशन की शुरूआत हुई, तो कहा गया कि मोदी खुद पहले वैक्सीन क्यों नहीं लगवाते। राहुल गांधी के ट्वीट से ये मुहिम शुरू हुई, इसके बाद मनीष तिवारी, रणदीप सिंह सुरजेवाला, दिग्विजय सिंह समेत कांग्रेस के तमाम नेताओं ने मोदी से वैक्सीन लगवाने की मांग की। इसके बाद एनसीपी के नबाव मलिक और अखिलेश यादव ने अपने बयानों से ये जताने की कोशिश की जैसे मोदी खुद वैक्सीन लगवाने से डरते हैं।
अब जबकि मोदी ने वैक्सीन लगवा ली है, तो कुछ नेता सवाल कर रहे हैं कि उन्होंने कोवैक्सीन की डोज क्यों ली। कुछ लोग यह भी कह सकते हैं उन्होंने सीरम की कोविशील्ड इसलिए नहीं लगवाई क्योंकि वो महाराष्ट्र में बनी है, और मोदी महाराष्ट्र के खिलाफ हैं। कुछ लोगों ने कहा कि मोदी ने असमिया ‘गमोशा’ पहनकर राजनीतिक स्टंट किया है और दक्षिण भारतीय राज्यों के मतदाताओं को प्रभावित करने के लिए इन राज्यों की नर्सों से खुद को टीका लगवा रहे हैं।
मैं उन लोगों को याद दिलाना चाहूंगा कि अमेरिका के प्रेजिडेंट जो बाइडेन हों या फिर रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन, सबने अपने घर पर डॉक्टरों की टीम बुलाकर वैक्सीन लगवाई। इन दोनों में से किसी भी मुल्क में कोई बयानबाजी नहीं हुई। और यहां भारत में, प्रधानमंत्री सुबह-सुबह एम्स जाकर टीका लगवाते हैं ताकि अस्पताल में आने वाले दूसरे मरीजों को दिक्कत न हो, फिर भी उनके ऊपर ‘राजनीतिक स्टंट’ करने के लिए निशाना साधा जा रहा है।
बेहतर होता कि सभी धड़ों के नेताओं ने हाथ मिलाकर लोगों से अपील की होती कि वे अपनी बारी आने पर वैक्सीन जरूर लगवाएं। हालांकि इस मामले में अपवाद भी हैं। एनसीपी सुप्रीमो शरद पवार ने मुंबई के जेजे अस्पताल में कोविशील्ड की वैक्सीन लगवाई, कोई भी सियासी बयान देने से परहेज किया और लोगों से टीकाकरण अभियान में शामिल होने की अपील की। जनता दल (यूनाइटेड) के सुप्रीमो और बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार ने पटना में अपने जन्मदिन पर कोविशील्ड का टीका लगवाया, और घोषणा की कि बिहार के प्रत्येक निवासी को कोरोना का टीका मुफ्त में लगाया जाएगा।
कभी-कभी तो मुझे लगता है कि भारत जैसे महान देश के प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में काम करते हुए हर किसी को खुश करना नरेंद्र मोदी जैसे शख्स के लिए बहुत मुश्किल है। जब मोदी ने वैक्सीन नहीं लगवाई थी तो कहते थे वह वैक्सीन क्यों नहीं लगवाते, अब लगवा ली तो कह रहे हैं कि क्यों लगवाई। जब मोदी ने कैमरों के सामने टीका लगवाया, तो इसे एक पब्लिसिटी स्टंट कहा गया। अगर मोदी कैमरों के सामने टीका नहीं लगवाते, तो विपक्ष के नेता उनसे वैक्सीन लगवाने का सबूत मांगते। एक पुरानी कहावत है: आप हर किसी को खुश नहीं कर सकते।
Covid vaccination: How Modi inspired
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led from the front on Monday to launch the Covid vaccination program for all Indians above the age of 60 years. He quietly left his official residence 7, Lok Kalyan Marg at 6 am and went to AIIMS in a small convoy of security vehicles, without any big security protocol, and got himself Covaxin dose from two South Indian nurses. After the mandatory half an hour observation, Modi quietly returned home, and posted pictures on social media to break the news to the world. This was a quiet statement of confidence from the PM in the indigenously developed Covid vaccine (Covaxin) about which some experts had raised lack of adequate efficacy data in recent months.
Modi tweeted: “I appeal to all those eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India Covid-19 free”. Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Home Minister Amit Shah also took the vaccine on Monday. Two chief ministers, Nitish Kumar of Bihar, Naveen Patnaik of Odisha also took the first dose.
Some of the opposition leaders, mostly from Congress, raised questions over the manner in which Modi took the vaccine. The Prime Minister had put an Asomiya ‘gamocha’ on his body, and the two nurses who gave him the jab, were from Puducherry and Kerala. The opposition leaders quickly linked this to the forthcoming assembly polls in these states. The leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Choudhury commented: “In the picture, there was gamcha from Assam, and nurses from Kerala and Puducherry. These states are going for elections. If PM had carried Maharshi Aurobindo’s photo and Rabindranath Tagore’s Geetanjali, the picture would have been complete.”
Reacting to this, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said, at least on such a national issue, the opposition should not have raised objections. “Let us keep politics out of this”, he added. Strangely, another senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Khadge, who is the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, said, it would have been better if the young were given preference in vaccination. “Old people have already lived their life, and the youth have a full life to live”, he said. It was Dr Harsh Vardhan again, who replied. He said, the world knows that older people are in the vulnerable category, and they must get precedence over others. “I would like Khadje Ji to take the vaccine dose soon, and let the youths wait for their turn”, he added.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi added a new twist to the story by pointing out that the German government has stated that Covishield vaccine is efficacious only for people in the age group from 18 to 64 years, and it will have no effect on people older than this category. Owaisi wanted a clarification from the PM whether Covishield is effective for people above 64 years of age or not. It was Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad who replied to Owaisi’s comments. Prasad said, at a time when the world is accepting India’s major role in carrying out Covid vaccination, the opposition must change its tune and stop politicizing this issue of national importance.
Both the Union Ministers are right. There should be no politization on the issue of Covid, but if one carefully goes through how the opposition behaved during the last one year, it will be crystal clear that they had been politicizing right from Day One. Modi tried to remove fear from the minds of people by asking them to come out on their balconies, beat utensils and blow conch shells. Millions of Indians heeded to this call, but the opposition leaders made fun of this. Modi wanted to thank the Corona warriors who were out in the open, tending to Covid patients, by lighting diyas and candles. The Opposition again made fun of his appeal. When the vaccines began to be prepared, the opposition raised furore, demanding that Modi should be the first to take the vaccine. From Rahul Gandhi to Manish Tewary, Randeep Surjewala to Digvijaya Singh, most of the Congress leaders raised a chorus demanding Modi must get himself vaccinated first. NCP leader Nawab Malik and SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav gave statements to project that Modi feared being vaccinated.
Now that Modi had taken the vaccine, some of the leaders are questioning why he took Covaxin. Some may argue why he ignored Maharashtra, where the Covishield vaccine was manufactured. Some of them said, Modi is up to his political stunts by wearing Assamese ‘gamocha’ and getting himself vaccinated from South Indian nurses to influence voters in these states.
I want to remind them, both the US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin got themselves vaccinated by calling team of doctors to their residences. There was not even a whimper of protest in these two countries. And here, in India, the Prime Minister goes to AIIMS early in the morning, without wanting to trouble other patients in the hospital, gets himself vaccinated, and yet he is being pilloried for making a “political stunt”.
It would have been better if politicians of all hues had joined hands and appealed to the people to come and get themselves vaccinated. There are however exceptions. NCP supremo Sharad Pawar got Covishield vaccine at J J Hospital in Mumbai, avoided making any political statement, and appealed to people to join the vaccination drive. Janata Dal (United) supremo and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar took Covishield vaccine in Patna on his birthday, and announced that every resident of Bihar would get Covid vaccine free of cost.
Sometimes I feel, it is very difficult for an individual, like Narendra Modi, to please everybody while working as the Prime Minister of a great country like India. If the PM fails to take the vaccine, he faces criticisms, and if the PM takes the vaccine, the opposition tried to find political loopholes to criticize him. When Modi took the vaccine in front of cameras, it was called a publicity stunt. Had he avoided the cameras and taken his vaccine, the opposition would have demanded proof whether he really took the jab. There is an old saying: you can’t please everybody.
